Are people seriously that noobish to want to keep these traits? Anyone who needs these traits obviously doesn’t do WvW enough to know where to jump and where not to jump.
The responses make me laugh! Man I would love to smack some of these Carebears…. too bad they’re in the lower tiers.
I am sorry I use falling traits all the time in WvWvW, can I ask what server your part of. Cause I know that blackgate is in the top 3
Tier 1 on JQ, guess that’s why we’re ahead of you.
LOL Really you realize that BlackGate is Tier one and last week you won by a margin with Blackgate right on your heals. This week again we are 19 points behind you, I wouldn’t be using anything in comparison of our two servers as your more leet than someone else. Especially to try and support how leet you are, when it is your server not you.
I am glad you feel that it is carebear to use falling damage traits, my suggestion is say that don’t hide behind your server that you could possibly be cared the whole way through and never be anything special to the reason why JQ is currently #1 server in NA, although if we keep what we are doing that will change to BG.
In short you should probably check your facts before talking Kitten unless you are so far a head of them they have no chance of catching you, that is not 19 points.
In closing, I have added you to friends, so when you log in lets hope you are on JQ server. or your going to get a bunch of laughs.
…..EMP is leading in GvG too? Forget that part?
Tbh I think the auto-attack should be a toggle for on/off. What really bugs me is the skills overall. I would really like to see #2 stack bleeds in intensity, not duration. Yes having a 19 second bleed is ok, but it will certainly get removed by then. I’d rather see 5 stacks of bleeds for 3 seconds. This would allow the grenade kit to be applied to other builds much more easily.
Tbh the highest total condition damage build is bugged ATM and if ANET would get around to fixing condition duration on Givers weapons we could see even more builds.
That’s the problem, all they do is play sPvP and not WvW or PvE. They need to see things from a PvE>WvW—>sPvP approach. Right now its sPvP———→PvE>WvW.
I would really like this as well. :-)
Great idea and this is one of many posts that majority of all players agree with. ANET would make a lot more money offering these “kits” through the gem store vs. people buying their items for their new toons with karma jugs or people just using slightly less optimal gear because its in their bank.
Lets face it, almost no one cares about sPVP.
GW2 needs that competitiveness that will keep those competitive players interested because the winner of WvW is not detemined by skill.
The name of the game is GUILD WARS, why isn’t there cross server GvG Arenas?
I think ranking/leaderboard system that shows the skill of your guild would be appealing to many players.
What do you think?
Obviously you don’t play anywhere in Tier 1 or the tiers right below because it does take a lot of skill. Yes we need GvG, but take that sPvP crap elsewhere.
Cool idea but this is what would happen:
(1) ANET implements this and everyone is happy and swimming in badges
(2) ANET sees that people have to many badges so they just nerf badge drop rates
(3) Now the WvW community is forced to buy these boosters just to earn the same amount of badges before they nerfed the badge drop rate.
(4) WvW players /gamequit.

Any updates on why this is not working?
I’m doing this for a potential wvw roaming. I’m about to make my exotic shield and pistol so I’m trying to work out the best build. I run a condition primary with prec/tough/vitality/power sub. I find that the pistol’s rate of fire keeps the stacks from vuln and bleed when using a sigil of frailty and I paired that with a sigil of strength for might stacks. Since you crit fast, I can build 4 stacks of might. I just am not seeing anything great from the rifle AT ALL. I’m also not seeing too much from burn, I get a 733 tick of kitten seems.
EDIT: Sigils of fire and air run fairly expensive on TP.
No condition built engineer should be running without P/P, the #4 is your hardest hitting condition.
Hmmm I run pure condition damage with a similar build, (an extra 10 points in explosives) wich are Toughness, precision, cond armor and power, vit, Cond jewels. Do bombs work better with power or condition damage?
The answer is power. The #1 skill from bombs do the most direct damage out of all weapons/kits in the game. If you’re just using the kit for #2-5 then condition build would benefit if you stack duration.
I would say if your running PVT you need to be using direct damage, not condition damage. Tbh the Engineer really does suffer as a frontliner because your hard hitting attacks are delayed. The Flamethrower does alright as well, but if you run into a zerg with great condi-mesmers your going to kill yourself. Tbh the Engineer is the most effective ikittenerg with Grenades. Bomb kit is nice, but just not compared to the other classes. Engineer is most effective 1vs1 or 1vs2 (or if your mask 2vs.kitten load).
Tbh I think the only time devs play the engineer is in sPvP and not WvW or PvE. Seems to be shaping up their behavior towards this profession.
If this thread same person who starte the “Class ain’t bad, you’re just lazy?”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Class-ain-t-bad-you-re-just-lazy/Are you bi-polar or something? In that thread you claim Eng is best class out there and in this one saying we are most broken. I am so confused.
Ha I thought the same thing! However he does have some good points even though his last post left me a bit confused.
Games will always have bugs, but ANET does have serious development issues. They want people to buy their gems for items, yet the TP is a cluster-kitten to navigate. We should be able to sort by stats and armor type by now. Also actually having items people want on the trading post would be nice. For example having an item that can unsoulbind an item to make it account bound would put more money in ANETs pockets than people going out and spending that built up karma on weapons or farming for hours to get new ones.
ANET needs to get some Supply-Side Economists on the team because they don’t have a clue post-release.
Can’t remember, but does Elixir S stop condition damage as well?
I think I can answer you just fine, I’ve been duoing with a guardian buddy almost all the time last few weeks and it goes amazingly great. Just this morning, for example, we were attacking two different groups of 20+ opponents kiting and going back, killing a few at a time, sometimes one of us would die but we were never both downed at the same time.. we did this for 3h without wiping, got about 80 badges. We were pulling such insane fights that soon we started getting whispers about the other server’s map chat being filled with WTF, HOW COME THEY DON’T DIE WITH 20 HITTING THEM and similar.
Here’s how we run: I use my trusty p/p elixir+toolkit build, he uses shouts and cleric gear, perma vigor and heals on dodge. When stuff goes wrong and we need to run, we both have swiftness up pretty much constantly, I drop the 2 snare puddles (glue shot and box of nails), gear shield and elixir s if needed too. People tend to focus him more than me, partly because he is a huge norn and seems more menacing (thank you evolution) and partly because I’m tough to catch (cloaking device and toss S are good for this) most players giving up and focusing the slow moving monster.
here’s my latest video, check after 6:40 for duo fights with my guardian buddy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCjlwKWKVhs&feature=player_detailpage#t=401sbare in mind those are average fights for us, the best of the best I -sadly- cannot record with this pc but usually involve us humiliating large groups.
Dear lord, that’s fantastic.
I would suggest looking at a P/P condition damage/duration build that stacks might. Grenades are nice, but tbh grenades work best ikittenerg. I would look for some of Masks builds, they’re pretty good.
I personally run with 100% condition duration P/P (can’t really stack HGH atm), but as of last patch with condition duration runes are broken so that build is broken. Once Giver’s weapons are fixed it will be possible to go 20/20/00/30/00 for the ultimate 100% condition duration/HGH build.
Are people seriously that noobish to want to keep these traits? Anyone who needs these traits obviously doesn’t do WvW enough to know where to jump and where not to jump.
The responses make me laugh! Man I would love to smack some of these Carebears…. too bad they’re in the lower tiers.
Ya I’ve been running the 100% condition duration on the Engineer (my main) and have found a lot of success with that until the Runes got bugged with the last patch.
Am I the only one actually playing with a P/P build that doesn’t include HGH? And scrapping the HGH*409 pigeonhole for let’s say.. a pair of Slick Shoes or a Flamethrower? Eventually a Med Kit too, out of reliability? I’ve never had to complain about the damage of a full Carrion/Rabid P/P build that didn’t use Might stacking.
Currently I’m not running HGH on my P/P 100% condition duration build, but that’s because Giver’s Weapons are not yet fixed. I basically can out “total” damage any HGH builds atm through the extra duration and without having to play the piano.
However, once they fix Giver’s weapons the new Meta will probably be 20/20/00/30/00 for 100% condition duration + HGH for P/P.
*Damage factkittenhey do not share the owner’s power
- No critical hits
- No critical damage multiplier
- Special skills have to wait on a queue
- Damage is pretty much the same as described on the tool tip
Testing on the light armor target golem at the mist ( for highest possible damage )
Turret – Damage – Fire Rate —-—DPS
Rifle —-—-> 377 —--> 2 seconds =188
Thumper> 452 —--> 3 seconds =150
Flame —--> 127 —--> 3 seconds =42 + burning
Rocket —-> 943 —--> 4 seconds =235 + burning
_________________________________________
Total DPS 615+ burningOther facts
- Low survival
- High on the priority list by mobs
- Susceptible to AoE
- Long Cool downs
- 1 Turret = 1 utility slot
- 5 utility turrets total
so knowing this, an option to balance them, instead of drastically modifying them, and going through many nerf & fail faces, why not turn them into a kit ?
Turret kit
- Rifle turret 10s cool down
- Flame 15s cool down
- thumper 20s cooldown
- Net 30s cooldown
- Rocket 40s cooldown
- toolbelt: Detonate all turrets( naturally remove blast finisher )
Having turrets being 1 utility slot, would make players want to use them, specially since as engineers we all dreamed at some point of using turrets, considering their low survival and combined total DPS being 615+ burning ( much less on actual mobs / players ), this would not be considered OP while allowing to open a whole lot of versatility to the game play
Facts:
- This would feel like what playing an Engineer should be like!!!
- Would give us a much needed class identity! ( turrets, he must be an engi)
- You could still trait into turrets and use the other 2 utility lots to protect/heal them!!! Welcome turret engineers!!!!!!
- New build to our class to replace 100nades
- Would be viable but not overpower on WvW, sPvP, PvE & Dungeons
- Doesn’t require additional coding or a lot of work!
Cons:
- Would take away some utility skills, BUT… Anet, as a company should understand that us ( at least most of us ) would rather have quality over quantity! 1 working skill over 5 currently under-powered, and we would rather not go through Test & Nerf Every month until you get it right. THIS is the simple fix that would make everyone happy! Allow for diversity and a new type of play style!
Also, take in consideration that 1 utility slot for engineer has a much bigger impant in our play style than any other class! so having a few less would not be such a big deal
Please, if a developer happens to read this, please take note, take it to the next balance meeting and bring it up!!! on the next update Engineers are gonna take a HUGE hit! and kit refinement update will be like playing Russian roulette! it could go really well or terrible bad! Give us this one!! let us have a stronger class identity and a new type of play style! this is what engineers need!
Made a similar post, but yes we need them as a kit!
So guys I’m fairly new to the Mesmer and I’ve been running with the GS-Sceptor/Focus for WvW in Berserker gear and doing just fine, but I was wondering how much better the Staff – Sceptor/Torch Glamour build is.
Just looking at some of the talents and such it is possible to throw up 3 blinds which then turn into confusion which is pretty cool. Here’s the build I was thinking about.
Staff – Sceptor/Torch (with Sigils of Endurance & maybe sigil of corruption/sigil of endurance)
Utilities: Feedback, Nullfield, Arcane Thievery (Veil if in a grp), Timewarp
Talents:
Domination: 20pts: III & VIII
Dueling: 20pts: II & X
Illusions: 30pts: VI, VIII, IX
As far armor goes I was thinking Rabid, but not sure. Runes I was thinking undead? Need some help in this department.
Like I said I’m fairly new to this so all the help would be appreciated.
Tbh the best way to increase survivability on the engineer is through traits and skills. If your having trouble dying gear shield is great. Also try the shield out, its really nice because you can activate and then swap to a kit.
Engi should be able to repair siege weapons. Nothing op on this imo.
This!!!
Also unless you have speedy kits as an Engineer your mobility is not as great as a Guardian rolling GS/Staff. Also an Aegis Guardian when seeing his party member getting face rolled can spam Aegis twice to mitigate a lot of damage before he dies.
So really what you’re saying here is that Guardian is more mobile than an Engineer is
Watch a Staff Guardian and an Engineer race each other in WvW. The Guardian has to fill up their utility bar with skills like Retreat and Save Yourselves to keep pace—an Engineer just has to swap in and out of their Med Kit.
Obviously you don’t play in Tier 1 because Retreat, Save Yourselves, and Stand Your Ground are a staple for the Guardian Frontliner build. What would I know, after all JQ is the #1 server and EMP is undefeated in Guild vs. Guild events. Personally flipping to a kit to get swiftness is nice, but again your forced into that skill tree just for the speed. If your condition build that +10 in Gadgets hurts you.
(edited by Goloith.6349)
Too be honest when it comes to open field WvW the Engineer is pretty lackluster. The only thing they are good for in open field zerg vs. zerg is for boon spiking for blast finishers for the group. Many of the Gvs.G Engineers, Necros, and Thieves don’t even make the cut.
So basically if you want to run the Engineer solo or small group taking over camps are it’s strength.
We are actually getting hit pretty hard with this since we spam #1 on the Grenade kit quite a bit and that means that we need to invest in a pain relief brand.
Many of our skills are AoE, but like one of the posters said, everybody will be hit with this. That will mean that Glass Cannon builds like Berserker’s/Rampagers are going to get a significant buff.
That’s my thoughts.
If you’re running an Aegis/Shout Guardian you’re going to be tanking more than the Engineer. Also unless you have speedy kits as an Engineer your mobility is not as great as a Guardian rolling GS/Staff. Also an Aegis Guardian when seeing his party member getting face rolled can spam Aegis twice to mitigate a lot of damage before he dies.
On a damage side of things:
In my opinion the Engineer really needs to have a rush/charge/shadow step in the bomb kit that lays down a line of bombs along the way. That would really give that kit a needed boost.
Personally BOON HATE is a terrible idea. Not only is it going to basically get rid of competitive play in WvW (where boon spiking happens all the time), but destroy the Guardian. I really enjoy the Guardian compared to the Engineer. Now both those professions are going to be ruined. About 70% of all Engineers run a HGH build which is stacking might……….guess they are going to go extinct if they implement that.
Boon hate is a great idea and is needed. Boon meta is out of control and needs something to keep it in check. Ever see the healway build on this board? Almost every boon for 20 sec on 28 sec effective CD, and it kills people through perma retaliation. Not to mention all the condi->boons you get from PoV. Guardian is a boon kitten right now.
Null field is arguably the most powerful boon hate skill in the game, and no one is complaining about how it’s ruining competitive WvW. Well of corruption is essentially the same thing. Again, no complaints.
Boon hate already exists with the mesmer and necro and the guardian is still functioning fine as a top tier profession. And no, 2 professions are not enough to keep boons in-line. Granted, these new skills need to be balanced, but Anet has shown that it is possible (look at necro focus 5 for a good boon hate skill).
Stop being so melodramatic.
For one Null field does not actually damage the player, that’s why it isn’t full-fledge boon hate. Also Well of corruption is the only true boon hate in the game and that’s alright because it’s the Necro.
I think that this would be very helpful.

I agree with this. This is stupid that everything in this game is soulbound.
Not all Engi builds have kits, ie turrets.
I don’t understand you OP. If you want to swap weapons (and hate kits) so much why use engineer? Why not use a warrior or thief? Engineers dont suit your playstyle, fine, but you can’t force us to follow your playstyle.
Because the OP is basically trying to suggest fixes for Eng. Your whole premise is bass ackwards in logic. By your telling him weapon sawp is icky and should not be added limits his play style. His suggestion to add weapon swaps would in no way effect your play style because you could opt out of using it. Options expands a class and allows people to have different play styles, The exact opposite of your not wanting options to but you can’t force us to follow your playstyle.
How does adding wep swap fix engineer? What is broken? Based on your “logic” elementalist are broken as well and needs to be fixed. Each class has its own unique play style, and engineers playstyle doesn’t include a secondary weapon and signets for balance issues. Its not my playstyle btw, its Anet’s and they made the game and decide the rules.
either your willfully ignorant, or you did not read where i prove where the problem is. Scroll back up to my last post and see why kits CANNOT be the reason why we dont have weapon swap, and why elementalists reason they cannot use weapon swaps is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. I"m not gonna repeat myself, you can scroll up and read.
It fixes that class because like it or not Engineer is not only about kits. Many builds such as HGH (most used) do not used kits, but in order to make up for the damage tax we really should run at least one kit – wrenchkit or grenades to make up for it. That’s why weapon swapping would be very nice.
We have no weapon swapping because:
Zero cooldown on kits
We can go for close(Tool Kit/Bomb Kit), mid(FL/Elixir), and long range(Grenade) in the same build
We only have two options for main weapons, direct damage or condition damageHowever, a few things need to happen to truly make this a good deal on no weapon swapping.
Pistol:
1-Upped to 6 second bleed with explosion causing 4 second bleed to surrounding enemies
2-Needs to Shoot in a straight line
3-Upped to 4 stacks of confusion per shot, Daze added optional
4-None
5-3 second immob on landing, with a 2 second cripple per pulseRifle:
Increased damage by 10-20%, possibly through traitsShield:
Cooldowns lowered by 10 seconds per skill. This would allow non-kit users a more even playing field with those who use kits. Our main weapons should be able to stand on their own if we don’t have a weapon swapping option. This would allow Engineers to truly pay a fair “versatility tax” on our kits by giving up a Utility Skill in exchange for a higher set of skills. By giving up potential buffs, stun breakers, and the such, it would be fair.
Personally I think #2 should be a fan attack, but if your at point blank (0-200) the target gets hit with all stacks and all damage . As far as Rifle, that weapon really just needs longer range or they just need to allow for two sigil slots on two-handers.
Everything else looks great.
There is a lot more to the game than just one class.
If you are getting upset with this class level another character. I would say if you leveled an Engineer first do a Guardian second. Chances are you wanted to be helpful in a group with your Engineer. The Guardian class is the best for feeling like you really helped out.I caught myself getting really frustrated by the Engineer class a few months ago. It was the first class I leveled to 80 with 100% world completion. When I got there I found grenades were the only really viable thing to build around at the time. I would try as hard as possible to help every group but still would get the cold shoulder from most people once they saw I was an Engineer. I would read every patch note and cringe every time I saw anything about Engineers. It started to become not fun…
I’ll be honest. The Engineer feels like the weakest class of all and the hardest to play. It is like easy mode leveling up a Guardian after the work put into leveling an Engineer. Even my glass cannon Warrior feels tougher than my Engineer.
I wrote this because when I only had 1 level 80 character (the engineer) I would wonder what it would be like to level another class to 80. Two more level 80s (Guardian and Warrior) and a couple of 40s (Thief and Mesmer) later and I can say it was fun. If you are not having fun with the Engineer level another class and you will be glad you did.
tl&dr: I got frustrated by the Engineer class. Found fun in leveling other classes. If you are not having fun with the Engineer level another class. It is fun having multiple level 80s.
This is pretty much how I felt. If I had started my Guardian or Mesmer first I probably would be 6 sets of exotics and 1 set of ascended items richer. However that being said the Engineer in my opinion is really fun to play solo or boon spike built for parties. However if you are doing anything other than solo or boon spike engineer you are really missing out on how much better the other professions are for group play.
Personally I think the Engineer profession is not bad, just unfinished. Turrets could really be great for groups some day in WvW and PvE, but that day has not come. A person could also say that Condition Damage/Duration needs an overhaul and that is why the Engineer feels a little lackluster atm.
+1 for this. This should have been implemented ages ago.
@ Mask,
You said warriors don’t have any gap closers. Most warriors run GS and that has “whirlwind attack” and “rush” that with speed is incredible fast. If the warrior is going Axe Axe he then can leap at you for a devestating hit. If he’s sword Axe he can do a 4 second immobilize on you. If you have the trait that cloaks you he will use #5 on Axe for whirlwind attack and you’ll be down or mini-me (elixir s).
Tbh the more I think about it Tier 1 WvW is different than the lower Tiers so probably why I have some bias. The Engineers biggest role in large organized play is pretty much just the Boon Spiking Engineer – which is an off shoot of your boon duration build.
I also know people love grenades for sieging, but its unneeded if you have an organized group of Mesmers pulling everyone off
I’m kinda like that parent that really loves their kid, but constantly picking on them to be better.
(edited by Goloith.6349)
There is no doubt Mask is a skilled player, but understand that anyone who posts videos of dominating other players is parcing together the good times to show when the build is working, not when it failed.
I know the Engineer is better suited for small groups or solo, but until you try other professions that are finished your missing out. Also this idea of the Engineer being limitless is the exact opposite. If you play a Guardian, Warrior, Mesmer with the same proficiency you’d see the difference. People that role an Engineer knew they were getting into an unfinished profession so I think people of advanced skill lvl are attracted to it so they don’t see its flaws as bad. Right now Mask runs a HGH build and variants. With the introduction of boon hate HGH might be a curse.
(edited by Goloith.6349)
The sad part is that ANET fails over and over to understand why less and less people are playing the Engineer. They are just plain lack luster. I love my engineer, but after 5 sets of gear trying to make this profession work its a bit disheartening to see other classes with more finish.
Tbh I really wish it did an AoE bleed as well. Would make the pistol a much better weapon.
I disagree. Check Mask forum, his build is great, you single target down fast any other profession, have a lot of survability, and have a good fast AoE.
Build https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Mask-s-new-WvW-build-preview/first
Engi is a lot of fun, fast responses, versatile. Obviously there’s people that don’t how to to play and engi, but don’t blame the class for it, it’s a learn 2 play issue.
Tbh that is probably the worst argument ever made and it is obvious you have never played other professions at the same level. Warrior, Guardians, and Mesmers are considered “finished”, Engineer, Ranger, and Necro are yet to be finished.
I love my Engineer and its great at stuff, but for the same amount of skill and keystrokes the other classes do more.
Guys I’m not sure if many of you saw this, but take a look:
ANET needs to hurry up and really start finishing the Engineer profession because the “gate” is going to close for many of us that love the Engineer, but have moved on to more finished profession. It is very important if we wish to grow as an Engineer community that they make WvW account bound, not character bound. I know many Engineers are just a one character person, but guys this is about stemming the bleeding of Engineers and any hope of resurrecting (growing) the profession.
I think this will be a true test to whether Anet listen to the community or not.
This patch will absolutely make or break my decision to stick with this game long term.
Pretty much.
When did players get so lazy that they expect everything to be account wide, or retroactive.
Lazy huh? I’m sorry most of us that want account bound have real lives outside of the game and have a job, relationships, kids, or etc. So yes lazy indeed. It’s lazy people like you that can’t post a concrete argument for character bound.
Everything should be account bound it is just plain stupid that this is character bound. By leaving this character bound they have basically ruined WvW. How so? WvW is a place where Guilds can utilize tactics/groups/professions and versatility is so important for taking over the maps. If the Guild needs Mesmers, Frontliners (Guard/Warr) or Elementalists for swirls they can ask their guildies to swap to the professions they need. People should not be punished for be versatile in a setting where versatility is the most important. Let PvP be character, bound, but in WvW is a completely different beast. The funny part is you can spot the people that don’t run in a guild or who are not team players because if they were team players they too would be asking for account bound. WvW is the ultimate team play, if you don’t like team play gtfo. Even a pug can be team oriented so I’m talking about non-team minded people.
To add insult to injury are we supposed to abandon any profession that isn’t “finished” just so we don’t fall behind. Say goodbye to the Engineer & Ranger. Their populations are nearly going extinct and this would be the end of them.
Either make it account bound or don’t implement it at all.
(edited by Goloith.6349)
So I’ve heard that ANET is thinking of having character bound rank, titles, +stats. My question why the hell are they doing that instead of account bound?
Referring from here:
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/7169/Guild-Wars-2-What-Marchs-WvW-Patch-Will-Bring.html
So basically all that time, money and effort that one spends to WvW on different characters will all now be a waste. You want to incentivize people to purchase extra character slots, to buy your gems (convert to gold) so they can gear their alts because they don’t want to grind for their alts and now you are going to punish them for playing those characters.
On top of that, add in profession balancing and if ANET nerfs or breaks your profession what are we supposed to do then? Guess we put all that effort in for nothing.
Maybe I am overreacting, but if anyone has more info that would be great.
(edited by Goloith.6349)
Here’s how some of the gameplay would turn out like:
1st Scenario: Big zerg on zerg fight
So what do you do?
Find a great choke point/high ground and start dropping turrets like a mad man. Then you switch out for your rifle for more control/damage or your Pistol/Shield to tank that pesky enemy that is trying to hurt you. You could also switch to wrench kit for a block and repair turrets.
2nd Scenario: 1 vs. 1
Alright so you see that enemy running right at you so what do you do? Well most people would instinctively say start dropping all your turrets. No, you are going to start kiting in a circle and then start dropping turrets. You’re than going to fight the enemy in the middle of all those turrets. Before he figures out that you drop turrets all around him and the turrets are hitting him supply drop him. If he thinks he’s getting away after all that, it’s time for Magnet from the Wrench kit to pull him back into the circle of death.
So people don’t think that this is overly OP. This play style would require a lot of work with keeping the player around your turrets and as many people know, once turrets are viable the enemy player will be very careful to stay or kite the Engineer out of his defensive. So if you’re facing this type of engineer you need to pull them out of range of their turrets as well. Mesmers have their Focus pull, Thieves and Necro’s also have a pull. If you do this you are going to still fair pretty well against the Engineer that is traited heavy into Inventions and not elsewhere. I think that would create a great dynamic.
3rd Scenario: Taking or defending a supply camp
If you’re defending I would suggest starting dropping turrets just inside (basically right on the line) of the capping circle. This would really make Engineers shine in point defense. Yes PvPer’s will already say that this might be a bit OP, but like all things with PvP, things can be disabled/reduced.
If you’re taking a supply camp again you’re going to want to pick the high-ground to have your turret’s rain down hell on the people in the circle. If the Engineer has great turret placement they can go running into the circle because they either have shield or Gear Shield from Wrench Kit and can start Prybaring some faces.
4th Scenario: Defending or Attacking a Tower/Keep
If you’re defending you will be able to drop your turrets on the edge of the wall and with the new mechanic that reduces AoE damage to turret’s this will actually allow turrets to survive if they are constantly healed.
If you’re attacking the tower/keep you can place your turrets where they won’t get totally nuked and when you switch to your Wrench Kit to Magnet somebody off, your turrets since you’re now attacking that target will focus fire and if you have net turret down will immobilize the enemy so they can’t get back to the portal.
I know people think these are radical changes, but many of these requests such as #2, 3, and 5 should already be in the game at this point. Changes #1, 4, and 6, especially #1 would make the Engineer so much fun.
Anyways that’s my vision. Please comment and I’m sure some people will think this would be OP, but at the current bleeding of Engineers in game developers have to do something reasonable.

As many people know turrets are not even close to on par with that of other utilities and the biggest reason people do not run them is because of “regret”.
Regret?
-The feeling you are having when you have 3-5 conditions on you because you went turrets
-That feeling you have when the zerg destroys your turrets in a split second
-That feeling you have when you drop your turrets only for the enemy to move way out of range
-That feeling you have when the tool belt skills have such a long cd (except rifle)
-That feeling you have when your turrets attack a random target or invincible target.
-That feeling you have when you see a Mesmer’s illusions doing what you wish you had.
These are all some of the “regrets” that Engineers have with turrets. Sure turrets in PvP are more effective than in PvE and WvW or the Boon Spiking Engineer that detonates 3 turrets/big ol bomb and thumper tool belt, but ask why? Because “regret” is not as high. PvP turrets aren’t going to be insta-killed or kited around. The Boon Spiking Engineer also has a lot lower regret because he has absolutely no intent on using turrets other than for a blast finisher.
So here are my solutions:
Yes the path to making turrets viable is really that simple and if we address “regret” or which economists call “opportunity cost” we can really see some interesting gameplay.

Fingers crossed for Givers & runes condition duration to be fixed. If that was the only thing they fixed.
The do this I’m playing my Engineer again.
We need a turret kit.
Guardian: Don’t get me wrong this is a profession that an Engineer can take on in a 1vs1 and win because he can kite them in WvW
And this in the end is a serious issue i have with the game, it is very much built around “kite to win”…
Tbh that’s one of the problem’s I’ve noticed while running in WvW with my Guardian. I’ve seen too many of them make the same mistake by not swapping to Sceptor-Shield/Focus while they run solo to catch up with the friendly zerg. Just having Staff and GS/Hammer is not good enough lol. OP in zergfests.
