Ahh the Forums where everything is QQing or tears. Kids have some growing up to do if they interpret everything that way. But I guess those are the same folks who have fun 2v1ing and ganging up on an outnumbered opponent due to their lack of skill and silly video game server hate.
Its clear that fun and gameplay are no longer important to these people, its all about farming for that 7th legendary and buying/manipulating servers for the rewards of a long kitten WvW season.
It used to be a fun pvp playground, where I could roam and battle other roamers, team up with other roamers, Run organized with my guild, compete against other players there for the same fun.
NOW its just a bunch of Hate fueled by the evil taunting name of Blackgate, where it used to be JQ and BG trying to balance out their coverage to compete with one another, while the 3rd place server would always show up and put up a good fight, there for the fun. …
But thats no more, TC has been tainted by the Hate fueled SoR ship jumpers, who have only strengthened their HATE driven relationship with JQ to take down the Hardcore guilds of BG.
I for one have no idea how its fun to play the game the way JQ and SOuRTC have been the last couple months. Holding hands with your enemy to manipulate the matchups and fighting consistently outnumbered foes? .. not my kinda game anymore.
NEVER should have added rewards to WvW anyway. Thats where the players looking for fun pvp went, pve was for the rewards. Now entire servers like TC have been bought by JQ.
Dont even bother with warriors 1v1. You can win if they suck and are using a bad build. But on even ground the ele class is not designed to win a 1v1.
Now look again at what happens if you blurred frenzied or even pressed f4, when he lightning flashed.
mesmer: 1 skill goes on cd
ele: all earth and air damage skills and all utilities go on cdyep, the elementalist is perfectly viable
Funny how you can defend that this type of damage is balanced. It isnt always possible to evade an attack.
Its not that much damage compared to what a zerk thief, mez, or warrior can pull off. Its also pretty much ALL the Ele’s offensive skills going on CD as opposed to one (kill shot) or a couple clicks on other classes.
Also be glad you could SEE the Ele, not like a stealth class that can just blow you up out of no where.
Full zerker yolo ele is possible but its more difficult to pull off the combos and get out alive compared to other classes.
YES! REWORK or NERF Retaliation. Its an OP mechanic currently that is the direct counter (and an abundant easy passive ability) for the playstyle of the 3 weakest classes in the game; Ranger, Ele and Engi. AoE or weak frequent attacks.
Maybe tweak it so it can only do something like 25% of a players HP over 5 seconds.
It stacks in intensity up to 3 or 4 then stacks in duration.
It scales off of condition damage not power.
Can try taking the 25% burn increase trait
40% condi duration food
10% Toxic oil/stone/crystal
Add in the 30% increase from having 30 in fire and that is + 105% burn duration.
May or may not be best freeing up that utility slot for a change in food and a trait, but its an option.
Would have liked this skill to be the ranged AOE and keep Arcane Wave as the PBAOE, seems to make more sense for the Ele. Will have to wait and see how it works out though.
lol any chance those punks insulting were playing Warrior or Thief? Those are the real easy cheese damage classes in GW2, and Ele is the nerfed/kitten ambitious one. With zerker gear your build is one of the top dps builds Ele has, but there are some others to eek out a bit more damage and do situational pve stuff with a conjured weapon.
Getting through a dungeon with little deaths as a gc Ele is good play. Your damage and survivability is flat out less than other classes. They may have been loling at the difference in numbers or your “noobness” in not wanting to speed run your way through a game :p

They need to replace Zephyr’s Speed (Air 5) with Vigor and then give us a new trait in Arcana. That would solve two problems.
Yes, this! That will free up room to move one of the Arcana Grandmaster traits down and put a good new trait in there.
Evasive Arcana is pretty much the only reason and thats just for the heal and blast. The cd reduction was nice on dd but I hung that up back when the over nerf hit.
Ele- Fire needs more damage, maybe another 5% damage bonus in there.
Arcane- not Arcaney enough. I don’t think the 2 Grandmasters should cancel each other out, move one.

I’d say go full bunker dd, you wont kill anything but wont die as fast either and can contribute more to group play. Or try and get the hang of a s/x burst build and keep the damage gear, lol but then you will prob miss your thief once you compare the damage, survivability, mobility and playstyle.
Not in the slightest. I’m in full celestial armor and my offhand dagger is celestial and I’m running cavaliers, zerk/valk, pvt trinkets and my toughness is between 1750-2400.vthats also with 16.5k hp.
You just need to used the proper build and spend your traits accordingly to achieve the best results. I’m using a s/d burst/sustained dmg build.
I don’t know man, I don’t quite agree. I have a few armor sets for my Ele, 3 variants(including celestial) for a s/x build, have run a s/f burst/dps build with success (as much as an ele can get) for the past few months, that last stealth nerf to arcane skills hurt but whatever,thats Anet. IMO the slight gain in survivability from celestial doesn’t make up for the loss in power.Its still not enough damage output or sustain compared to other classes, especially a thief.

To be honest, everyone here isn’t giving T2 enough credit when it comes to real fights. Regardless of PPT, some of the best fights I can think of recently were against the likes of TC and MagSwag. After the snoozefest this week (AC vs AC – missed the memo), I’m looking forward to getting back into the open field and fighting! Let’s get ready to rumble, T2!
I’m looking forward to matches with T2, I’ve had fun fighting TC when paired together. I hope the ppt coverage gap doesn’t dissuade too many players. Show up and bring your A game, especially during your prime time and it should be fun.
Different play styles and roamers will be a nice change.
So you WILL be very “weak” in comparison. Elementalists are slow, squishy and lack damage. What they bring is utility and group support type stuff. You can spec to do almost anything, just whatever it is will always be weaker than another class. Its adaptable but does not excel at anything.
Group play with staff is its niche if anything, dropping cc, water fields and fire aoe spells/combo fields.

If you have tried the build in pvp and are happy with it then go for it. But you will be very glassy, even with rabid and points in earth you will be 1-2 shotted by thieves making roaming not so fun, and in zerg fights your conditions that are weaker than other classes will be overwritten and less effective (like Elden wrote). Plus all the Warriors out there who can passively out regen your conditions. GG Anet.
Still no red post about this. It makes me sad that the developers have absolutely no clue about their wvwvw community and its showing clearly now more then ever. Anyone who has bothered to play a BG/JQ/SOR match up knows that BG and JQ loves to double team, since all they care about is a shinny metal next to their name in standing at the end of it all.
Hell they have been doing it since last night, even sitting on voice coms and talking to one another (how do I know? because I just moved from Black gate since what your doing makes me sick), making sure to attack anything SoR may hold when an opposite servers holding is being pressured. Yet refusing to attack each other even when t1. Ironic that JQ has magically popped to the top of the PPT over the past 24 hours despite not being able to hold their own all week. Its saddens me that after JQ paying so many guilds to come over, an honest matchup between these three servers will never happen and Blackgate is allowing it, and now any decent wvwer on either one of these servers will have their name tarnished because of pathetic tactics like these.
Sor is the only decent t1 server left, they have yet to come crawling to BG asking for help, and I would know if they did, so don’t point fingers because they can stand on their own two feet and fight. Its a shame I didn’t move earlier to help them.

You haven’t been in T1 or on BG long have you? Besides your first sentence nothing you wrote is near the truth. For months and month Sor and Jq have 2v1’d BG far far far more often than BG taking part in a 2v1.
SOR and BG have a rivalry from like last year, way before many of the players they fight against even came to the servers. I was blown away at how strong the hate SOR has towards BG was when I first xfered. All this time I have been involved in maybe a handful of favorable 2v1 situations, where Its been near constant 2v1 against BG.
Former Guild mates from SoR now have leadership roles on jq and sor guilds, and they coordinate 2v1 kitten often as well. So ya…
WARNING: If you want to relax and have fun do NOT play an Ele !
Play a Warrior or Guardian for that. The mechanics of an ele are very fast paced compared to other classes, you will need to time everything just right and be spec’ed and geared perfectly to stand a chance, even then you are at a disadvantage.
You will have the worst HP pool and lowest armor, many game mechanics straight counter an Ele, while none really benefit you. Classes with similar traits, skills are optimized while an ele gets the half kitten of everything. … Edit: except water fields, you can drop water fields if you use a staff.
OP: That is weird. I actually thought they may have stealth nerfed Meteor Shower like they did with Arcane skills last patch. Mine seem to hit from 2k-4k where a couple months ago there were more of the occasional 5k, 6k hits.
I was thinking it could just be how many Warriors and heavies are out there these days, but not sure, hope it wasn’t a nerf .
With JQ’s schedule, all their new transfers and the purchasing of MERC, its gonna be smoooooth sailing, pvd fun all the way to #1.
Cool trait, could be longer. Cant complain about a new trait taking the place of a crappy one.
Already too many good air traits, Fire could have used the help more, call it… Hot feets.

My Arcane Blast shows a couple hundred less than it usually does, it also hits less to(but cant be sure from just a night of new builds out in wvw) Is it a tool tip “fix”, a stealth nerf or what?
Anet why not a heads up in the PATCH NOTES? Arcane skills are key parts of some great builds.

Good =stat change
Bad= less stomp points.
Now there really wont be any way to catch up to those servers with night cappers who have coverage while you sleep. There is less of a reason to take more than one Borderlands’s ruins, unless its a really close match and you want to deny your enemy stomp points.
Focus fire seems to need more of “you come near me you will get hurt” type thing, maybe Fire shield explodes, or just a rework of both spells.
Combine comet and freezing gust to add … a water field or an ice wall?
Earth is fine as is.
Air is ok, would like a cd reduction on gale and a blinding field at the center of swirling winds.
Ya the OP is pretty much right, especially if the most significant buffs next patch will be whats already been released. It will further put emphasis on making ele healer via waterfields with crap damage. Your cc is basically useless with all the stability around in zergs, or you can try more of a damage aoe build and be tore up by the broken mechanics of Retaliation or anyone who gets near you.
I have lvl 80 ele, guard, warrior and recently a thief. On the heavies I can out heal, survive and aoe better and with less threat from retaliation than on the ele via staff or dd.
Instead of a nerf to the heavies I would rather see a decent portion of the ele nerfs reverted. With those and the non bugged Signet of Restoration, a dd bunker build would fit in there well with the other classes and their new buffs.
JQ is currently stacked so much and with their dedicated WvWers, they will get #1, they recently bought a HUGE BG guild. BG’s ppt can no longer hold up to SoR or JQ and are vastly outmaned during most timezones.
With their numbers JQ and SOR will have winning though boring weeks while the other servers in the league may be a bit more even.I still hope for good fights here and there though, even if its just showing up during your primetime and give it all you got and have fun.
Devon, do you think bringing retaliation in line may help this problem? It may be its purpose to punish aoe users but in its current state it completely destroys any non bunker aoe user.
No, almost anything besides stat boosts would be good. The map changes sure look fun though.
Ya don’t bother with a straight 1v1, maybe the bunker ele from last year could hold its own against it , but not now. The war build is pretty tough for elementalists, I have a war and an ele and its just too easy and does to much for an ele to keep up with.
Retaliation should NOT tick more than ONCE per second. Don’t give me this crap about not running zerker builds or not aoe spamming. Retal is far to easy and mindless in its current state, just op and encourages blobbing.
I DON’T like the increase it gives to stats, should be more reward oriented, like a bonus to magic find, karma and world xp. The stats just serve to make the “stronger” server stronger. The magic find would also help pull PvE players into WvW and to hopefully enjoy and get good at it.
For the GvG stuff, just make Obsidian Sanctum or whatever the EB JP map is called, make thakittens OWN map that the Bloodlust Buffs do not affect.

^ I remember an old state of the game from last Nov or so. The Devs talking about nerfing the bunker ele but mostly bringing up other classes to a similar level. Well now that they have brought up other classes, its about time to buff or revert some of the nerfs to ele that gutted the class to the weak pot of doo it is today.
I’d like to see how that build would do today against some of the other classes “op” builds out there now. Even if they reverted all those nerfs the bunker ele will prob not come out on top and will be a predictable boring play.

No, DO make more maps. More maps and lower the map cap.
So there is a good NA guild who gvg’s and runs open field with about 80% guardians. Its already the tankiest class with great sustain and aoe heals, throw retaliation into the mix and it gives that tanky class over the top offense. These guys are had to take down as a tank should be, but to die so easily just for attacking them… …cmon now … cmon. :P
It would be like running a group of the nerf magnet d/d ele’s, with constant fire auras up, but the burn would tick multiple times per second like retaliation and not all lame like the real fire aura. The burst heals of guards may not be as much as an ele but they do still heal really well plus the heavy armor, readily available stability, aegis, and boons they apply mitigate damage that an ele cannot.
The offense of retaliation is just broken and over the top for the best tank class.

S/F knights, zerker. 10,30,10,20,0. Lighting flash, fire signet, earth signet. Burn and burst down the pillagers, use your cc options, use focus skills to stay safe.

So I can position myself right, get a good aoe off on a stacking/regrouping enemy zerg, get hit by NONE of them and die. The spell(s) CONFUSION and RETALIATION that allow that to happen are whats mindless.
There will always be some retaliation sharing in groups, its easy and pugs commonly do it. Its still too op of a mechanic in its current state. Yes, please stack more and more people to mindlessly follow around a commander without fear of being hurt by an aoe spell while killing any who attack with a big aoe.

LOCK a MAP if you leave it, you cannot hop back for atleast 2-3 hrs. If a zerg wants to run as a zerg, let them do it on one map and one map alone. Not to map hop at the last moment to save a keep and negate the hard work of the few who put the effort into the siege.

I think it’s a deliberate choice by Anet to make Eles the most teeth-grindingly annoying class to kill.
Right behind the thief , bunker guardians, mesmers, and mobility lemongrass warriors of course Ele’s are easy pickins, squishy squishy.
I have a S/F setup for WvW, one of my favorites. Full glass cannon can be fun but not very viable unless you just want to thief hunt or try to wipe stacks on enemies before you die.

Fire shield -applies 5 seconds retaliation
Flamewall- Remove fire field and make it a smoke field. Something like burning embers and it still applies burning to foes who cross it, or make the fire or smoke field be a 50/50 chance.
Water skills- add an aoe effect around the target or have them apply 5 stacks of vulnerability. – or some reworked spells with healing involved.
Gale-reduce cd or increase knockdown, apply vulnerability.
Only a noob would say a thief has nothing to bring to a zerg fight. lol so yes they are sill op at almost everything but high lvl dungeon farming, and lol if thats your prefered play style choice then why choose a thief to farm lol
Eles already have Cleansing Water, Cleansing Wave, Evasive Arcana Water Dodge, and the move Cleansing Wave on Offhand Dagger. Adding more will only add to the utter disparity that exists between Eles and other classes when it comes to condition removal.
The problem is that condition application has become far too rampant. Eles don’t need condi removal as much as the ability of other classes to apply so many conditions needs to be dialed back.
Problem is those are ALL apart of the 1 real viable survival build, 30 water and 30 arcana. I doubt more ways to remove condi’s will make that build op, thats already its main focus. Unless more changes similar to the op’s idea are addressed, the competetive ele build diversity is crap, more of the same nerfed d/d.

Lol then why not give warriors a trait " gain 9 more bleed damage when wearing ALL toughness gear" ? It just soo bad kitten , Anet can’t leave the ele’s to get all the good traits lol
No DO blame Anet. Its their stupid ranking system. It has allowed for screwy matchups, blowouts and such LONG standing matches that spies and 2v1 alliances have gotten worse then ever. 1 up 1 down, make it simple, 1 up 1 down, make it fresh every week, 1 up 1 down, give players something solid to fight for in wvw. 1 up 1 down.
