I think you can turn off or limit effects in your settings easily.
No you can’t. That setting doesn’t work.
Just keep on zerging. There’s no need to see anything in front of you.
Organized open world content is a contradiction in itself.
It is expected. Blame the developers not the players.
“You know, your failure is only funny if you try.”
Not a bug. It’s there for the only reason to prevent you from selling different items at a faster rate.
Just another annoying restriction. It’s been there since release.Nope, a dev recently confirmed it is a bug and that they are fixing it “soonish.” I’ll edit with source in a minute.
Edit: Here you go.

Unfortunately, “soonish” could mean anything from next week to next year. The devs are infamous for delaying and forgetting about these things.
You have to be really naive to believe this is a bug which has been in the game for almost two years. Especially in one of the most fine tuned aspects. The TP.
They gain nothing from fixing this one. Actually it is detrimental to them since it will allow the players to manipulate all their goods faster. Some people can’t be bothered to put less expensive stuff in the TP due to that “bug”. And they gold sink it by selling to a vendor.
Just because a dev said it’s a bug doesn’t make it true. It’s a really convenient restriction hid behind the illusion of a bug,
Not a bug. It’s there for the only reason to prevent you from selling different items at a faster rate.

If you read the Dev Tracker, you can see where they have posted about banning thousands of Gold-selling accounts. Thus, they do do something aside from keeping exploits and other breaches of the ToS off the forums.
Block and report is the best policy. You can always set your whispers to a different chat channel, and report the unwarranted messages at your leisure.
And have you seen any improvement in-game? Less spamming? Just because they said they’ve been banning and stuff?
Set my whispers to a different chat channel? That’s your solution?
What if I get a real whisper from a friend or a stranger asking me something?
Do I have to sweep through the clutter so I don’t miss on the real whispers?
Funny, I just block them as they whisper me.
Seems to work for me as well, report them, block them, play through.
That’s great and all, except for every one you report, three more start whispering.
It seems like there’s a never ending supply of hacked accounts or accounts made with the sole purpose of spamming kitten.
If your game sessions consists in playing the block and report game, I’m glad it works well for you guys.
But it’s obvious that something needs to be done. And I mean more than deleting forum threads. Because that’s the only thing Anet seems to be doing.

Basically, I believe the truth to be thus:
You don’t have to make a good MMO, or a fun MMO, to make tons of money off of people who forget what fun really is, and want to buy or grind their way to some collection of digital pixels that they don’t even actually own.
All you have to do is offer said pixels for money – and put a pretty face on it.
It’s sad, but I think that this is what most MMO’s have become. It’s no longer about the game – it’s about how much money you can make for the least amount of effort.
Which is why I find myself playing less and less…of all MMO’s…but especially this one
Preach on, brother. More and more – I just have this feeling that MMOs as a totality, the entire genre, is bunk. I don’t see any other game genre – single or multiplayer – using such persistently manipulative, cheesily anti-player tactics, and thriving for very long.
I agree. This is why I would prefer a sub. Paying those 15 bucks a month and being sure that the devs are working to make the game better and fun, instead of creating the next bunny ears in the cash shop. If the game is poor, I simply stop paying.
There used to be some great MMO’s with subs. Not one of those games was working against you. Because that’s how I feel about GW2. I’m playing against the game and not the content.
Dueling in PvE….thats just a matter of time before a hack surfices where any player can get killed by another in PvE. A certain South Park episode comes to mind.
So nty, play WvW and PvP.
That’s precisely the type of absurd answers you’re gonna get from the forum boyz here OP.
So you’re asking in the wrong place.
Anyway, about the duel question. NO, there isn’t. They have a custom arena feature available with gems which will become pointless if they implement dueling in open world.
You know, had this been the reward since start you would’ve complained about the crappy loot.
But now you went from no loot to crappy loot and suddenly Anet is awesome.
Those cheap mind tricks.
You sound like you’re about ready to quit. Can I please have all your gold?
What gold dude? Everyone is dirt poor unless they open their wallet.
Have you even read what the OP is talking about?
Now let’s wait for that white knight posting that we shouldn’t play for reward.
One should always play for some kind of reward. Just maybe that reward doesn’t always need to be $$$. Mmkay?
Absolutely agree with you.
But for this particular encounter, which is it?
Is it an engrossing story?
Is it amazing combat?
Besides “insert AP checklist here”, what reward this encounter does provide?
The Queen’s Pavilion will be great once all the people who came to zerg up, mash 1, and collect tons of loot leave.
I haven’t done the Queen’s Pavilion yet. Everyone says the loot is very meager. After people have gotten the Living Story achieves what will keep them coming back and playing there? What will keep it full so that the late comers to this can also get their achieves? Are the boss fights so fun and rewarding that people are going to keep returning for that? What will be so great about it after so many have left?
Absolutely nothing.
Now let’s wait for that white knight posting that we shouldn’t play for reward.
This :
More like this :P
You just need a better PC.
Can you run them? There always seems to be a few people who are like “I’m getting like 60 fps on ultra.” And everyone else are lagging their kitten off.
Of course he can’t run them. It’s just a failed troll attempt. No PC can handle 100+ players spamming kitten with this game engine .
Just a bad idea with a bad engine.
Indeed, english IS not my first language.
I dont think LS was all that bad. It was inconsistent and felt stitched together, but was OK.
In other words, it was really bad.
There is no arguing with the white knights is it?
They’ve been running around in circles for months doing champ trains all this time screaming " NO Grind! Just optional"
From all that dizziness I guess they started believing it too.
Kudos to Anet though. The cosmetic illusion is a brilliant one. Fooling so many people into believing that no power gain means no grind.
Yet most of the players do tedious stuff every day for gold, while Anet is nerfing, time locking and deleting every source of income. Cuz gems, right.
This isn’t even amusing anymore, it’s tragic.
It’s just another gold sink so you buy the trait instead. Another inconvenience.
White knights can twist it as much as they want but it is that simple.
This thread….
Time and time and again you get the same answer..
GW2 is not a grind because the grindy things are OPTIONAL.
Ok, let’s see. So what do you do, as a casual, if you don’t want to get involved in those OPTIONAL stuff.
What else is here besides those?
What are those great activities here that don’t involve a grind ?
Someone make me a list.
Is it Jumping Puzzles? They’re awesome. You can finish them in 2 days.
Is it WvW? A whack-a-mole activity without any real rewards.
SPvP? An unbalanced mess with no map variation laughed at by any esport competitive gaming.
Map completion? 300 renown hearts filled with lifeless NPC’s. Hell, like 30 of those involve putting out fire with buckets. It gets boring real fast. No thanks.
World bosses? A 6 fps particle spam zergfests. Or is it running around enjoying DE? Yeah, good luck on that with the new megaserver.
Dungeons? Please!! Don’t make me laugh. Fractals? RNG masochism.
SO. What else is there besides hunting for rare skins and grindy stuff like legendaries and ascended gear?
This so called " No grind cuz is optional" doesn’t click for me.
Or maybe is it " In that asian mmo you gotta grind 1 million things to get another thing, therefore GW2 is not grindy compared to that."
Those are not answers.
To answer the original question.
GW2 is in an odd place on the game grind scale.
To put it simple.
If, as a player you have a goal ( ex: I want that expensive skin, or full ascended or a legendary or even more legendaries ) then the game becomes one of the most grindy games on the western market.
If you don’t have a goal, then it becomes one of the most shallow games you ever played. Because there is nothing else. Especially for a level 80.
+1 for the subtle attempt of trolling.
Stealth nerf since patch. Put 4×80 and you might get a lower lvl one. Like the bad RNG wasn’t enough. Had to make it worse somehow.
They can’t change the reward system. The interdependence between gold and gems won’t allow it. It will destabilize their economy and they’ll lose revenue.
I played for a year and never got a good skin drop. Best thing was a 6g exotic amulet from a world boss chest a while ago. That’s in ONE YEAR of playing.
So yeah, I’m one who doesn’t enjoy this crappy loot system but it’s here to stay because the game is designed this way. RNG and sucky rewards all around.
Don’t forget to buy gems after the loot nerfs guys. It’s good for the economy.
How do you not know where “unknown” damage comes from?
GW2 and combat log at its best.
They will never implement dueling, even tho by all accounts it will improve the game quality, because they loose potential revenue from custom arena sales.
Why is there a 10 pages thread about this?
People like this business model. Enjoy your half game and pay for the other.
You don’t pay enough taxes to the empire to have it rebuilt in a single month, it takes years to rebuild a city. I’m saddened by the idea that players can’t handle change, but that change was that they couldn’t stand in a little tiny area of a big city and do nothing all day long… Perhaps this is the wrong MMO for those people, perhaps something a little more static would be their speed.
After thinking for like 15 seconds, I thought to myself “why does a game need a central hub at all?” and the conclusion was that all cities in the real world have them, they’re called Malls and it’s a gathering place for teenagers and it’s why I don’t go to them anymore.
But what if the real world was a little more like GW2 where there were cities but only one of them was the central hub? It would be like Los Angeles being the central hub for the U.S. and people just loitered near random Starbucks all day — oh wait… that totally happens… nvm.
MMO’s don’t need central hubs, you just insist they do. My hub is a little place in Wayfarer’s with crafting stations. I rarely ever need to use any other services that only exist in one place like the Mystic Forge – what if Zommoros wasn’t the only Djinn? cause he isn’t. I remember killing many of them in GW1, Zommoros isn’t special, he’s just the only one that got captured alive is all – or whatever his lore says.
Every racial city should have a mystic forge, it doesn’t make sense that he is the only one that can do RNG crafting magic.
And how many friends of yours are hanging out in your little hub in Wayfarer’s? Or strangers who can give advices, or take advices from you. Or check that cool skin that guy has and ask him where he got it from. I could give you so many examples why an MMO needs a central hub. That’s why they call them you know, MMOs.
This isn’t Skyrim. Comes Alduin and wrecks a city, great stuff. Adds to the beauty of it.
But to destroy the heart of an MMO is just wrong. And to be blunt, in my opinion they did it to rack up on gems sales.

As a former player who’s tried to return to the game several times lately, the “ruined” version of Lion’s Arch makes the game unappealing and not worth playing.
If the only reason you played the game was to stand in Lion’s Arch, then I don’t think MMOs are for you.
Perhaps Skyrim is a better fit for your personality.
If you think a game like this shouldn’t have a central hub for players to gather, then I don’t think MMOs are for you.
Perhaps Skyrim is a better fit for your personality.
I don’t know if they will rebuild it. After all, the gem sales are up now since you have to pay for a pass to access the all in one place features you had for granted in old LA.
Never have I heard of an MMO destroying their social hub tho. Must be a new strategy to keep players entertained.
Which site do you think has the ebst gw2 forums? as in positive and ppl that aren’t kittens all the time.
Do you know how easy is to get infracted and deleted on the forum here by posting criticism? As if this game doesn’t have any issues.
So that doesn’t make for a nice community but for a censored forum where everything is swept under the rug.
Even my post here won’t be staying up for long.
Yeah, and theres been exciting news coming with every patch since release. Look how that turned out.
I find it amusing that this PR bullkitten still manages to grab people’s attention after almost 2 years of so called exciting news.
So back to my original question. At the current conversion rate, how long would it take to grind enough gold for 800 gems? If I have the choice between working a fraction of an hour, x, in order to earn enough money to buy 800 gems and grinding in game for x+1 hours for the necessary gold, why would I do the latter?
I would chose neither of those. I would pay 15 bucks a month and have access to a full game and play for the fun of it. Some people prefer the existent system sure. I have no problem with that. It’s their time and money.
But here is my opinion.
This game is so unrewarding in every aspects which is the main reason I don’t play it anymore. I have been playing for more than 1 year and I never been satisfied with this system.
To get a legendary, which is one of the ultimate goals in this game, you either grind till your eyes bleed or pay. Either way, no sense of accomplishment there.
Many people in so many topics come to the defense of this system by stating that the grindy things are optional. This translates into “You can play half a game and be fine”. Sure, I guess.
The interdependence between gold and gems makes this impossible to be fixed. The whole thing is wrong. There is no way out of this. So get you zerg trains running or pull out your credit cards for sparkling quaggans and such and enjoy whatever rocks your boat in this game. I know I won’t.
The game is exactly like this OP. Dungeons are a fiasco. Lacking rewards, devoid of fun.
Players running full dmg. All they do is stack, glitch, exploit and abuse broken mechanics. Skipping 90% of the mobs.
Don’t try and convince them a game shouldn’t be played like this though.
They always come with the same excuse. Apparently it is permitted by Anet. Devs can’t fix their pve environment, they don’t even have a dungeon developing team, so they allowed this type of gameplay.
If you’re looking for good instanced content, this game is not it. I left out the dungeon owner system, party kicking or lfg merging. I hope you don’t have to experience one of those.

Where do you people live? I have a bridge to sell to you.
It is well known that the statistic written there is the number of player accounts who own a character on said realm and not the concurrent players. There you go.
Which however doesn’t explain how the population can shift between different levels during a day.
Or are you suggesting that people are constantly transferring back and forth between servers?
That’s not what’s discussed here. I was just stating that even if there’s only 2 people playing on the whole server at a given time, that server would still be counted as “very high” on the list. Because that’s not what that number is. Is the number of accounts made since game release who own a character on said server. Even players who stopped playing a year ago are still counted.
So by that number there, you can’t say that the game has continued to get more players.
(edited by Ionut.2307)
I can see this feature being implemented in the future having to pay a fee in gems for every duel. It wouldn’t surprise me at this point.
So you get that assumption because it’s written on the servers list window?
It must be true then.Better than the OP’s anecdotal evidence.

I haven’t seen the NA servers go below “very high” on population in a long time. If anything, the game has continued to get MORE players since I started playing, not less.
So you get that assumption because it’s written on the servers list window?
It must be true then.
This topic right here, the definition of gaming fun.
Anet doesn’t have the resources nor do they care to fix bugs and glitches which are in the game since release. So yeah, to answer your question, they don’t listen.
Simple as that.
For everyone reading this topic and having map completion, try and remember a few renown heart NPC names.
A few out of 300. Surely there are some memorable ones. They can’t all be insipid.
If you can, then congrats, your exploring experience was great.
I for one felt like it was a chore doing the map completion. Severe lack of personality from every zone map dwellers was a major disappointment. Lifeless.
Does it beat the kill 10 rats hubs? Sure it does. The whole concept is great. The final result however, just meh.Renown hearts is not instead of Quests. Dynamic Event’s are! And I can remeber alot of Event stories I realy like. Posting them would not prove anything since I could mind aswell just /wiki them so you will just have to take my word for it.
But read the bold text again, that’s whats most important.
You missed my point. The whole dynamic events awesomeness you experienced is a miss if you can’t emotionally connect to the NPCs your are doing the events for.
But is your opinion and I respect that.

Wildstar will probably be my last attempt at the mmo genre. The cash shops plagues in the last few years have killed it for me.
Look at this one, absolutely zero sense of satisfaction in every aspect of the game.
This game man, best AI ever hands down.
Congrats to those who killed the worm.
I do have a few questions tho. You guys have been struggling for days trying to organize an overflow with 150 people and so on. Now that you beat it and seen the rewards, would you go back and do it again? Does it worth it? Is the fight a reward in itself having so many people trying to work together?
Teq and the Wurm ARE instanced, they exist in the instances of Sparkfly Fen and Bloodtide coast. These are instances for large groups to exist within. The whole modular map design makes each area a huge instance. The fights would be the same no matter where they put them, why waste time and resources building yet another instance, when there are so many that already exist?
I do like the idea of say 20 man dungeons though, like some of the old Guild Wars 1 stuff.
It amuses me though, that folks are now becoming suprised at the addition of multiplayer content, in a massive multiplayer online game.
That’s not what the previous posters are talking about. In a proper instance environment you have full control on player participation and you can organize.
No zerglings, no randoms, no trolls. That’s a proper instance for you.
Remember the achievement with First Mate Horrik aoe? Or maybe the Foreman Spur in Aetherpath?
And now this.
I mean, how friggin hard it is to write a proper requirement in the tooltip?
This is sad and sloppy.
I declare this topic the most legit complaint of the day.
