I think I managed to make my human pretty “unique”, but I could feel character creation fighting me the entire time.

the one on the left looks great but i’d lose the helmet. or just switch helmets around. you can always have both armorsets anyway for different stats or same stats and use either look depending on your mood.

I use S/D in PVE for two reasons:

#1: Boon stealing. The ability to remove boons being spammable is pretty helpful in a number of situations.

#2: The evade on flanking strike. While D/D has higher single target damage, Death Blossom has an evasion window of 1/4th of a second. Flanking strike is double that, which gives me a much larger margin for error.

I only use S/D against bosses. Everywhere else I just uses S/P.

As for the vigor traits… I am always in conflict on what build to go with: 25/30/0/0/15, or 25/25/0/0/20, just to get bountiful theft. The AoE boon steal and AoE vigor are really helpful, but with how much it is nerfed I’m not sure if I should lose executioner for it.

25/30/0/15/0 and take vigorous recovery. withdraw is nice with that too. evade, heal, and vigor available every 15 seconds. then just go back to your target with infiltrator’s strike.

it’s also more fun. to me anyway. i’m constantly mobile and find myself killing more mobs faster than before. coupled with my traits and utility skills, i don’t go down easy. oh and i’m not a big fan of stealthing and cowering away so i barely use any stealth other than dagger offhand 5.

i’ve always gone with 15 acrobatics instead of trickey. if you already have high crit%, there’s no need for more fury from stealing. also, i’d drop the shadow arts XI. it’s not worth it. ;p

man, don’t listen to people saying this is weak and this is not. just pick something you enjoy playing and stick with it. i myself have tried every weapon set for a while since launch (main thief) and now i can say my fave is S/D. i switch to D/D if i feel like it for single targets (bosses mainly).

depends. i’m enjoying my ele and war a lot lately but if i feel like playing thief, i’d log and stay on for a while.

no. nothing is fun in gw2 now.

well you can go for a supportive build with some damage and use lightning hammer.

ahh, so the flickering wasn’t just me. it’s weird though because i just got this imac and i’ve been playing gw2 on my early 2011 macbook pro (1080p monitor) and i never came across that bug. but yea, those settings should run smooth on your mac. i’ve tried them on it before and there was no lag at all…. at claw of jormag. on desolation. ;p

i was in the same boat as you but upgraded recently anyway. definately was favorable for GW2 but sometimes i wish i just didn’t upgrade. i knew i had to put up with apps not working and need updates but i’m sick of several bugs here and there in the OS. kitten sleep issues on imac too, ugh.

my settings are attached. game runs perfectly smooth with the exception of loading into crowded areas like LA. fps drops a bit but not really a big deal. used to run with more high options but doesn’t really make a difference. i used to crash with those settings at tequatl constantly until i started to just choose the best performance preset for that event only. never crashed with that except once when i only had character model limit to low instead of lowest.

i upgraded to mavericks recently and i’m not 100% sure but i think the game is running smoother now. definately got rid of this issue i had with flickering UI but i can’t be certain it’s because of mavericks or because i reset my home folder permissions and all that.

i logged yesterday and got the green quaggan backpack skin in mail.

yea i’ve tried taking screenshots through the game on macs and they always appear discolored. best bet is to take it through os x; CMD+SHIFT+3

that’s weird. i do get over 60fps with high settings almost everywhere with the same imac.

GW2 uses a lot of resources and don’t forget it’s not a native app.

look at all classes, read about them and check out the playstyles. don’t listen to what others tell you (omg rangers suck, elementalists are weak, etc etc). pick what you like and go with it. my ele is my fourth char and i’ve been enjoying him massively.

yea i’ve been doin this since mac version was released and i wanna skype. basically hook the headphones and set the output options (system prefs) to the default mac speakers which would be headphones now.. then run the game. sucks you have to restart the game every time you wish to use them but yea that’s what you gotta do. ;/

well they were med to low on my mbp before. with a more powerful machine they’re all med to high now coz… there’s no way i’m gonna go back to kittenty graphics. but i still find myself having to choose “best performance” and lower everything down in crowded events to not crash.

however.. i did crash with all low settings the last time at tequatl, with the same lockedRect error message. but i noticed at that time i did have the character limit to low i think, instead of lowest.

edit; like i said.. i’m not gonna lower my gfx settings on this brand new powerful machine. ;p my settings are posted and i think i only crash in teq like events before i started lowering everything down.

yep, got my brand new imac recently and been crashing nonstop. mainly in high populated events. what you wanna do is lower every graphic setting down (select best performance) at those events and hope you don’t crash. it still happened to me the other day at tequatl.

reinstalling, repairing permissions, deleting local files and all that is all bullkitten. nothing works.

that “screen freeze” is probably your client crashing due to heavy content like an event or lots of people loading on your screen. you don’t have to force shut down the mac for it though. just alt tab out and force quit the application. if you can’t get to the force quit window through the menu bar, try holding command+option+esc.

this is common with the mac client. if that happens, try keeping the BLTC window open and changing the language settings in game to French and see if it loads. you can switch it back to english and hope it still loads too. if not.. just restart the client.

yea this is probably coz of how cider is limiting the client with only 4gb ram. i’m getting these crashes everyday in crowded events when my settings are high. actually happened to me once the last time when i set everything to low too. ;/

honestly.. i didn’t see any problems with the mac client when i was on my macbook pro. i used to run it fine and didn’t mind lowering my graphic settings even more to get more fps. on my brand new imac though.. with high settings…. it keeps crashing. more than once a day, and mostly in events like tequatl. reason being is that it’s only 32bit and is only reading 4gb of my 16gb ram. this is the only issue i’ve had with the mac client since they released it and i’m starting to wish, now more than ever, that they had made a native client instead.

i’m not big on bootcamp either. tried it before just for Gw2 before the mac client was released and it’s kind of a hassle, having to switch back and forth OS’s just for a game.

i don’t care what others say. i’m enjoying my ele a lot and i’m almost always logged on him. he’s my 4th character.

haha i hear you. i feel like i’m pushing my hands to the limit when i’m playing on my ele. you actually need to focus a lot. not just to switch attunements and do stuff but to actually also keep yourself alive since you’re soo squishy.

shouldn’t have updated to mavericks if you’re so into GW2 until you hear an official statement from anet that it’s supported now.

I’m not bothered by the trait movement so much, but what really irritates me is the Arcane wave change, that was totally unwanted, uncalled for and it pretty much destroyed quite a lot of combos/playstyles. And I don’t even play D/D at the moment, but still can imagine the pain inflicted on those who have D/D as their favorite weapon set….

i agree. even though i stopped using it a while ago, i’m still bothered by what they did too. they ruined the whole meaning of the skill. it even looks wrong when you use it now.

I took Vital Striking pre-patch out of choice. Now it seems Vital Striking is the best option out of necessity. I feel for pure support ele. This patch must be a bitter pill to swallow.

I’ve been running 0/30/0/20/20 with Vital Striking, Piercing Shards and scholar runes in pve since fresh air patch. I’m able to pull off 15k-19k fire grabs, pretty fun to play

Almost full zerk. It’s all about crit dmg so you can use valk or cavalier as well. I have mixed trinkets for extra hp and armor, though I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Less precision is less dps, but on the other hand dead=0 dps.

i’ve been really comfortable with my soldier gear. i just got full zerk recently but i’m not enjoying it that much. i honestly got tired of full zerk ages ago. i only use it now rarely on my main (thief) if i’m not using valk.

I see that you haven’t yet dove into wvw/spvp so you may not understand some of our frustrations. The moving of traits did not hit pve as hard as it hit wvw and spvp. We CANT simply make a new build and continue you playing. It would be great if we could, but that is not possible in this current iteration of the game.

I’ve been playing the Ele since beta. I came to the game wanting to play a close-combat mage. From the previews, I thought mesmer would be closer to that, but I soon found that the execution didn’t match my preferred playstyle. D/D Ele was perfect for me (in the beginning), as I don’t like the archetype mage style of sitting back where it is safe (staff). I also do not like any of the skills on scepter.

And after a year of commitment to the Ele (being my only level 80 since I don’t enjoy the other professions), I’m stuck in a failing relationship. I’m not sure I even enjoy this game anymore.

sorry to hear that. and i’m sorry i was talking from a pve point of view. but i’m sure people can manage with a different wvw build, no?

The inability to purchase gems started on Tuesday and has continued through multiple log ins and my computer is shut down each night and restarted each morning. So this is something that Anet needs to fix along with the further issues that have started since last night.

yea i know about the gems issue. i was talking about the BL as a whole not loading. it’s always been like that for mac users. sometimes it just doesn’t wanna load anything.

to you maybe. i’m fine with it. i used to use power of inertia but i figured since i’m already dishing out major damage.. extra dodging would be better.

new build just released apparently fixed this issue. haven’t checked yet.

i just tried to buy 800 gems and i can confirm that it’s working for me again.

why do i play ele? well one day i was bored and decided to lvl an ele as my fourth character. i had to much fun lvling him, and when i got to lvl 80 he was already decked out in exos and ascended trinks. it’s really fun playing an ele. the play style is amazing and it’s a versatile class. i don’t know yet if i’m comfortable playing an ele in wvw but i’m really enjoying him in pve.
