Orenwolf…players like you are the unsung heroes of wvw. I love roaming. Too bad you can’t use TS though, it makes it much easier to report info. And it’s easier to be “properly” descriptive. But, hey, not everyone plays under the perfect settings. TS just makes it feel more like a community. And you always have a better idea of what’s going on all over. I’m not busting balls though, contribute they way you can, at least you’re contributing, a VERY underrated contribution at that.

My suggestion to you(mostly what XTD mentioned above) would be to run a world boss train here and there, or find a good gold making method to supplement your wvw-ing. It’s pretty much what I do. My gold making trick isn’t as profitable as it was, but I can make an easy 30g an hr. under the right circumstances. YT gold making vids, you’ll find something. Sorry, I won’t tell my method to non-guildies. GL HF!

I disagree. There is no way the new map can work at this point. Anything short of outright removing it and reinstating Alpine would have little to no effect on bringing back players they lost over it.

I doubt those who left will be coming back – but that aside:
You get the Alpine Borderlands back. WPs not working. Ok. Walls at 0% health after an upgrade. Ok. You step outside are hit by a spaceship zerg and rev hammer 2, dragon banners. Ok. You try to roam and are killed by elite specs – and anyway no one is solo roaming anymore anyway as the overall damage is too high. You try to build an AC to defend a tower, but you’re alone and need to run 3 times to get that thing up while the enemies just use their aoe spells to destroy it before you have a chance to get it up.

And yes, by the looks of it wvw is pretty much dead – doesn’t matter what they do, except giving control back to the players = getting all the OP kitten that’s favouring blobs, though was meant to beat them, out and let us play our game. But I don’t think a reroll to the Alpine Borderlands would solve anything. Not saying I’m opposing it, but people think that it’s the new maps that killed wvw and that’s not true.

ETA (on general topic) : We’ve had guild groups of ~20 on our BL before HoT – it worked pretty well. But they had to combine forces from time to time against the enemy blob.
The new maps are designed to break blobs but at the same time: Enemies have only one spawn, so 3 groups of 20 come from the same direction. The map is that complicated that they basically jam and become a blob – and that can’t be solved that easily.

I agree with pretty much most if not all of what you say here. Alpine won’t save WvW, though it might help a tiny bit. Bronze NA was practically dead before HoT. And now the majority points that are scored are by so called “off hours” PVD against NPCs with little to zero. It’s pretty bad when at reset there’s no more than 30 players on a server across all maps, and within 2 hrs. of reset it’s down to maybe a party sized group or 2 at most.

I honestly think we (as WvWers) have lost so MANY experienced people or people in general that I don’t think it can be saved. I doubt Anet is really going to do some meaningful changes that we want. It would take a Festivus miracle to save it IMO. Yeah T1 is doing “ok”, but EB is the only place people fight. Yeah, there’s one server that likes to PVD in the empty BLs like PPT means anything, but that can’t be fun and I’m sure they’ll get sick of it soon and probably leave also. Things in regular WvW have gotten so bad that EOTM is more fun and there’s more fights. Now that’s just sad.

I tell you, if I was one of the Devs of WvW or a project manager, I’d feel sick and want to go in on off hours to fix it. But I’m the type of person who takes my job seriously and I would constantly work on it till it was perfect or tell the MASSIVE complaints stopped pouring in. I’d also be on here interacting with my customers constantly getting the feel of what I could do to make it better. I know you can’t make everyone happy, but you can tell by the population and the hourly threads online that people are beyond fed up. It’s not like there’s a new MMO out that is amazing where people are leaving to, it’s this game driving people away sadly. That would just bug me so much as a dev or manager. I don’t understand the almost total lack of communication and interaction from Anet for over a year, if not longer. I used to have PvP to fall back on, but that’s a mess also, though not as bad imo.

I’ve been hearing from more than a few friends on different NA and EU servers the last couple months about wvw hackers taking whole maps in under and hour. And it’s ALWAYS a mez and thief. Or just a single thief dropping from the sky and can backstab without the stealth debuff, and if you kill them, they can drop right back out of the sky in seconds. I’m lucky enough to only come across what I know for sure was hacking probably 5 times.

I hope your hacker gets caught, I empathize with you guys. It’s one thing to see a person hack here or there, but to have whole maps taken from a couple cheaters and it keep going on after making kitten ing videos of them….ugh demoralizing would be an understatement. Why is it not easy for them to get banned? Are people spending cash on gems to transfer away from this? Let it keep on going for a couple months…Could this be some crazy conspiracy theory we’ll end up seeing on Fox News? Maybe Alex Jones can dig into this for us?

More dumbing down of WvW… Like stated above, why not just use Karma or Badges for upgrade currency. This change just gives a huge advantage to the server with a better night crew and scouts. Even if you took away white swords it’s a big advantage.

With the expense of upgrades before, added with dummies forgetting to start or keep upgrades moving, sometimes not all the stuff taken in the night will be fully upgraded. Now it probably almost always will be. And the fact it took away your ability to choose a certain upgrade depending on situation, ugh, just bad all around.

To find roamers, watch the map, look for camps being flipped by enemies. Usually you can guess by seeing if the camps are being taken in a clockwise/counter clockwise fashion. Wait at the next camp. Also, some ppl hang out on the Borderlands Bloodlust ruins. Watch for them being camped. They will have the color of an opposing server if someone is/just was on the capture point. Or hang around the camps close to the spawn areas of opposing servers. Also, have you tried Obsidian Sanctum arena? Especially Thursday/Friday before reset, you can sometimes find plenty of players to duel with if that’s what you want. Another thing you can try is to ask in chat if anyone is havoking and join a small party. Make some friends.

Before leaving FC, is there a TS or Forum for the server you can ask other servermates? If there’s no one on during your time zone ever, I’d think about a transfer also. Keep in mind, long queue times in the top tiers are real. I hope it works out on FC for you though. GL HF

OP claims DH is overpowered, but doesn’t know names of their skills. ie. Calling Deflecting Shot “big bubble” and then “I don’t know, it needs a nerf”. Like come on, before you claim something to be OP(that’s been around since HoT came out fyi), at least learn about the profession, how to counter it, what the skills are, learn their animations and common combos of the meta builds. It’s what almost all good players do. Most people have to put time in to be good. And yeah, I agree traps are mindless boring utilities, but they are so laughably easy to counter that I hope a DH wastes all his Util slots on them. There are tons of skills and weapon attacks in this game that are just as bad, but on lower CDs in many cases. It’s just best to take the time you spent making this thread and posting in practicing fighting Dragonhunters. When I first started PvPing/WvW roaming on Condi Engi about 2 yrs ago, Necro was my hard counter. Eventually I rolled a Necro to learn to beat them, spent some time on it and I never again felt I was at a major disadvantage again when I saw a Necro coming. Just put the time in and spread the word to others to stop these stupid “nerf that, I can’t kill them!” threads. It’s embarrassing.

I’ve been really enjoying EOTM lately with all the fights happening, not running around keeping away from each other’s zergs as much, karma training like before. It seems an influx of regular WvWers have made their way into EOTM right after HoT released. I find it a double edged sword though, because a lot of these players are in there because they really dislike or the ppl they play with dislike the new BL, and EB is queued or there’s nobody around to fight or to fight with in their WvW matchup so they make their way to EOTM to find WvW like battles.

I understand that some ppl are surprised that’s the zergs actually engage with each other now, but that just makes for a more fruitful Karma Train. It’s actually engaging and fun now. Not ‘put NetFlix on and ktrain mindlessly’ like before. For the people upset about there being fighting, just pay attention and stick to the commander and not be part of a big fat tail to get ganked or split in half by the enemy and wiped, and you’ll have a better time in the long run. The more ppl that do that the better.

Well, you can’t blame them. Hard to be a pro team when you can’t compete for money on the regular. Anet has been a huge disappointment. What a waste of a potentially great game. The combat is there, but the game mode is super stale and nothing on the horizon to change that. GL to Denial in the future.

People who detach from the main force to provide intel / scout / defend, keep upgrades rolling, and speed up yaks when needed are the ones who can make a 1 min cap turn to a 5 min cap. Giving time for the force to come defend. Big props to those who do the dirty work. It’s not glorious but it definitely makes a noticeable difference.

Yeah, it’s a thankless job for the most part. One good thing personally is that you can get some great fights out there hopping around upgrading, checking on swords ect. away from the zerg. We just lost 3-4 of our best scouts/defensive minded players. I missed them the first day they left. I’m sure all the “vets” have also. Zerglings don’t really notice much but what’s going on around the pin… +1 to this thread!

Not really. Conditions can potentially do more damage if not cleared, but the upfront damage of many power bursts is far higher. I whacked a Warrior with a 15K shatter this week. I killed an Ele with a single Vault doing 12K damage.

Watch out for condition Chronos. Otherwise, most things can’t stack conditions fast enough to be as much of a threat as a power build. Bring cleanses or don’t blame other people for something that you could have prevented. Can’t tell you how tired I am of the “I don’t want to bring cleanses but condition builds are OP” attitude.

I’m with you. Some would definitely say I go overboard on condi clears, but you do much more damage when you’re not running from spawn. I play all classes, and can’t think of any I run that I feel I’m at a huge disadvantage when fighting full condi. When I die to condi players, it’s MY FAULT.

After a couple days of not hearing anything, I’d spam their Twitter asking about your bug report etc. With a new xpac coming in about a week and the publicity I think they’d not ignore a person for everyone to see. It’s gotten downright disgusting the lack of community with the devs in this game. Not even a mod response in a month. Like a “hey, I made a inquiry since I saw you haven’t gotten a response in a freaking month”.

I always loved the wombo combos you could pull off with rifle, BoB, magnet ect. I’d actually like to try your combo with Blast gyro inserted in for the CC and Stab. I might actually give it a go tonight.

Maybe it’s because your prob happened over the weekend? Just a guess. If it was during the week and 4 days without a response on the official Account Support forums, I’d be a bit annoyed. I honestly don’t mean to seem heartless or that in any way you deserve to be called names, but it’s the internet for you. You’ll get used to that stuff when you’re used to being online. It happens in all games and social platforms. It’s something that will never change. Just block them. They’re the ones who are salty, block and let it go. It’s the best advice.

To add to the HoT/Core argument some people are actually still having after all this time(gw3 will prob be out soon jeez): When many games have an expansion, you’re forced to buy it to even play it at all, especially MP/pvp games. To be fair, Anet has been pretty cool to let people after all this time not upgrading to play all the pvp/wvw content, and nerfing most HoT elite specs to the ground. I’m sure there are kids/children who can’t spend 20ish dollars for an old expansion or elderly people on a Social Security budget, but after all this time HoT is out and you enjoy the game still, skip going out to lunch or dinner for a day and buy it. Or if there are say geographical issues or something I can understand. It’s like an hr or maybe two’s worth of work for many hrs of added enjoyment. Just leveling all the elite specs was worth the kitten I paid 1.5 yrs ago when it came out. Though I’m ready for a new pvp/rvr mmorpg myself, but I’m glad I bought HoT way back when.

And For Honor isn’t very good IMO. It’s ok, but not really good by any means. Played the beta for 8-10 hrs. Got pretty bored of the pvp VERY quick. And it also isn’t very good looking graphically(though that usually has no sway on my game choices if the Pvp is good, look at CS with their 20yr old graphics). To each their own though. I’m sure many will love it…

Without WvW I would have left this game in the dust a long time ago. Like many of you, I only really leave WvW to pay for my WvW needs or to be social with my guild. It’s not exactly excruciating to PVE in this game, I have great guildies to join with, but I’m definitely wishing I was in WvW after 15 minutes of it. I’d say I’m a 95% WvWer. I’d probably play a lot more sPvP if I wasn’t sitting in the lobby waiting in a queue longer than the match. But that’s another story.

For #3 post SS/vid of your combat log with you being crit while in SH and Earth. Then if you haven’t already, make a bug report with SS or video. Video is always the best “proof” to show the devs. Though if you ever want your threads seen and taken seriously from Anet, post on Reddit not here. Or both would be optimal.

You should always have recording software rdy to go. For catching bugs and cheaters. Not just for YouTube vanity reasons. If not in HD recording, there’s plenty of freeware recording software that doesn’t use much of your processor/memory if you use a potato for gaming.

It’s the commander’s squad he started. That should be end of story. Make your own pick squad or something. Do you want to be included but despised for it? I wouldn’t.

Have a bunch of weak links/professions, you get 1 pushed. There are some amazing Druids and Teefs out there, and a few know how to round out a party with a proper non-selfish build, but then again you’re leaving out a proper zerg prof either way. And if you’re not multiclassing as a wvw/pvp player, you’re at a disadvantage to start. Because sometimes your only chosen prof will be trash for a few months prob. Maybe longer. Have a proper prof ready for what’s needed to round out your group. I don’t love playing healbot, but I put the time in leaning it so I can use it when my group needs one. Man, this “I want my participation trophy or riot!” type mentality I’ve seen here is saddening. That doesn’t work in gaming. Maybe in Lib arts college or in highschools out west. Not really in pvp style gaming. Incoming ban for truth incoming….

Huh, I guess I’m lucky then. In over 10k games across 3 accounts I’ve not had a lot of games when the enemy team is being overly toxic beyond normal competitive yapping. You really do need to have thick skin to play multi-player/pvp online. Or just being online. I’m not a big fan on censorship myself. Especially when a person has the ability to stop from seeing the toxic behavior in the first place. Most MP games have an “all” chat though. At least the ones I play(mostly FPS). If running your mouth to the other team is putting them off their game, that’s on them tbh. Like someone mentioned before, you can turn off /map and whispers during the game, or just block people you find toxic. I use /map in games to find new queue partners all the time. I’d miss not having it.

Also, someone mentioned you can’t find the enemy’s name in WvW. Actually you can pretty easily. At least their acct name to whisper. Quite useful in a number of ways.

I have been playing the game for a few months now. So far i like the game even tho i dont like the combat style.

Been doing pvp every day since its rewarding, not gear depended and its what im looking for in a mmorpg mostly.

But there is one thing i dont understand here, i have seen many ppl doing 5 to 10k dmg regularly, even with condition dmg i can see ppl doing 5k per tick. I have tried builds from metabattle and tried out my own but i dont see this being possible with any build.

I have checked forums and everything, ppl say they do like 500-1k dmg with auto attack and about 2-3k with other attacks. thats about the same as mine with all toons and builds.

How comes ppl hit 5-10k+ in PVP if its not gear depended?

PvP may not be gear dependant, but the Amulet,sigils,runes and synergy of you and your team’s traits and your experience with that build will get you the damage you’re seeing. And I think you still need chest, boots and pants though to get armor stat(unless that’s changed?)

If you’re running support or bruiser build, you’re probably not going to see the damage you’re seeing DPS players get. It’s not ppl cheating if that’s what you’re insinuating by this thread. Well, probably not. Watch some vids and/or streams of top players to get an idea how it’s done. There are certain modifiers that will get you big crits. You just need to learn and get some more experience under your belt. Something doesn’t seem right though if you’re playing a power dps meta build and only getting 500-1k AA’s. If you’re Condi, yea. Maybe you always have weakness and getting those weak attacks? Condition dps is about stacking that condi with as much cover condies so the big damage ones like Burn don’t get cleared so you can keep stacking them. Maybe try recording yourself and watching or having one of your experienced friends take a look. You might be overlooking something simple. Practice is your friend. Mess around in a Guild Hall if you don’t already. Or 1v1 servers or something.

I feel a 1v1 matchup every week would be incredibly boring. It would take away what suspense and strategy still remain in WvW. All you’d have to do is build a larger blob and run over the opposing blob knowing that there is no third blob that can run amok elsewhere. There would still be an imbalance. One server will have more players and more coverage and that server would still crush the lesser server.

^Pretty much hit the nail on the head there on that idea. Unless there was a total rework on the whole mode. Which would be crazy amounts of work for Anet.
There are a lot of great ideas in a great many threads in all gw2 WvW sub-forums on ways to help all the major problems with WvW. Some wouldn’t take a lot of work. Most ideas are just frustrated players on a server with mostly pve & pvp players and kind of want a “free” equalizer without trying to put work in on their end like recruiting in various ways or there’s Others who “buy” whole WvW guilds(which doesn’t help this whole unbalanced issue OP is concerned about). Maybe HoT has some surprises to shake things up a bit I keed I keed.

Henge of Denravi(HoD) server does a Theme Night every Thursday in WvW. We have done Mesmer, Necro MM, Guardian/Warrior(Heavy Hitter Night), Ranger, as well as other themes like Naked Zerg, Asura Night, and Arrows of Death(Bows all around including Ele Bows). Always fun, and the more people the more fun it is…lots of madness…win some/lose some…but the thing is…its fun. That’s what its all about…having fun.

This Thursday is Minute Man Night…all Firearms of any kind…:) We always welcome everyone to join in even if they don’t have a way to play the Theme.

That sounds like a blast! I’d think about throwing an alt account on HOD just for Thursdays. Nice how you don’t mind others joining. I bet it’s fun just to run around following you guys, seeing the results. And I imagine it makes it hilarious and fun for the opposing servers also. I’d be curious to see how each profession zerg did against other zergs in similar size ect. Though the variables, terrain, player skill on that class ect. make in beyond hard to determine, but I’m still curious. Have fun on your Minute Man night! I think that’s so awesome.
