Two useful tidbits about metabattle.com if you choose to reference it.

1) metabattle have some good builds in the wvw build section, titled “GvG”, but it is far from comprehensive. The build diversity in all varieties of wvw is much greater than pvp and yet it may appear the opposite way round when comparing the GvG and conquest lists.

2) I tend to find that metabattle builds are too glassy for me when I try out a new build. I make plenty of use of soldiers and/or dire gear when trying something new and gradually slot in glassy pieces of gear one at a time until I find the sweet spot between damage and surviving. It saves a lot of running back from spawn and makes for much running to a safe tower when I’m learning how a build or profession functions.

Reward tracks work in EOTM

For what it’s worth EoTM gives +414 to reward track every 15 minutes at max participation, WvW gives +550.

If this is true then it should be left alone; the incentive is there to play WvW for better rewards regarding the participation score you report. People should have options. Be mindful if all borderlands are indeed full and EOTM serves as an overflow “while you wait” as indicated on the wiki page, then I would think those players still want to be entitled to any rewards they rack up in EOTM whilst waiting for their queue to pop…

It is true. I got both WvW and EoTM up to full participation myself last night after the patch hit.

I also agree that it shouldn’t be changed. The numbers feel just about perfect as they are.

it seems it might be enough to rename the gw2.tmp file in your gw2 folder to gw2.exe and launch that instead (first rename the original gw2.exe to backupgw2.exe or something)

while I currently am reinstalling and can not 100% confirm yet, I now am able to do that.

Hey guys,

I place on an 11" laptop screen (casual?!) – I know this might seem a bit mad to some but I swear I won’t be the only person.

The small interface size is superb allowing me to fit everything onto such a small screen. The boon/condition icons are too small to read however. I can barely make out what condition it is and there is absolutely no chance of reading how many stacks of this or that I have.

My suggestion is 2 options to alter. Interface Size and Icon Size.

Or maybe I’m wrong and I’m the only person who has this problem?

I’m in a similar situation as I haven’t played engi since before the July 23rd patch.

With regards to gear I’m working towards the following – trailblazers armor, givers weapons, rabid trinkets.

Lots of Condi duration, Condi damage, toughness and some precision for popping traits and some vitality for survival.

I haven’t got it all yet but I think it’ll work well.

Fair warning: inexperienced engineer post.

I’ve a few questions from playing around with this build yesterday. I’m struggling to work out exactly what the approach should be when using it.

1) is this build meant to pump out a load of condis? Is the condition damage more of a supplement to direct damage?

2) what are the really good reasons for taking elixir gun and what role should it take?

3) is the build a teamfighting bunker essentially?

Absolutely not – I’ve profited from the changing economy mained Revenant since release and just started looking forward to unlocking the next elite spec.

I love it for Elite Specs and the Revenant – everything else is the icing on the cake.

Cheap and cheerful option for the Revenant = Runes of Rage. I think it’s +5% damage when under the effect of Fury.

It’s not as good as Hoelbrak, Strength or Scholar runes but it’s a fantastic alternative and waaay cheaper last time I checked. You should be able to get 6 runes for under 6-7g.

I enjoy the secondary activations on the Glint 7 8 9 skills. Remove stealth, apply conditions (including burning) and apply huge vulnerability stacks.

I’m of the opinion that it isn’t really viable for PvP right now. Mallyx utilities seem to benefit power users more than condition builds. The mace is the only real condition damage weapon we have.

Conditions seem lack luster when compared to the damage that can be output by power builds.

Glints heal will only be effected in a very small way by the healing power boost, although it’s regen and the other heals will see a bigger improvement.

I don’t know honestly, I don’t think so right now.

Also a basic DPS rotation with Mallyx would be – use mallyx elite skill and sword auto attack until out of energy – switch to shiro for energy refresh – use shiro quickness skill and sword auto attack.

Rinse and repeat- start in whichever legend you like.

Take Mallyx over Jalis for maximum mobility. It’s ground targeted skill is a repeatable leap. Shiro’s 8 skill is a teleport if you have an NPC targeted. It works even if the NPC is out of range.

I’ve theory crafted a lot and tested in WvW and PvP and I’ve found the condition revenant to feel a little lackluster. That’s what’s stopping me from running celestial right now. Good on you for trying to find an alternative to the apparent meta. I hope you let us know if you manage to settle on something that works!

I haven’t tested this fully but I was looking into a Glint/Ventari on point bunker, probably soldiers amulet, probably invocation/retribution/herald specialisations and probably. Staff/hammer as weapons.

The idea was to use the many projectile reflects/destructors (hammer 4, ventari 7 and staff which is a standard block) to stop ranged attacks from hitting whilst using the hammer to hit back. Once the enemy was on point I could use the small radius of the tablet heals and condi cleanses to my advantage.

But I made an error, projectile does not mean ranged!

Mesmer greatsword, I think necromancers sceptre/axe and possibly many other skills like this aren’t projectile (something being flung through the air) and aren’t blocked. It kind of ruined my build idea a bit

I haven’t theory crafted much beyond this currently but hopefully this information saves you a little time.

I used tombs of knowledge to level to 80. However in the jungle I ran Shiro/Jalis until I unlocked Herald.

A basic rotation would be (in any order) spinning hammers + sword autoattack – when energy runs out swap legends to refresh – shiro quickness + sword autoattack.

Rinse and repeat.

The hammers range is amazing if you are fighting in an area where you are lower level, or the NPCs are particularly difficult.

I ran Invocation – Retribution – Devastation traits and dropped Retribution for Herald when it was unlocked fully.

Q: Will you bring back Solo Que?

I’d love a solo que. I don’t tend to run into premades a HUGE amount but that could be a my MMR – I’m rank 50 or so.

There is something extremely disheartening when you realise you’re up against a premade team – although it does feel good when you occasionally come out on top.

This has been extremely informative – I had the ideal of a Centaur/Dragon stance bunker Revenant. Using the hammer 4, staff 3 and ventari 7 to block projectiles forcing people to come on point where I would benefit from my sustain and condi cleanse…

It’s a cool idea but I’m realising it’s kind of… useless in reality

The Mesmer’s autoattack is considered a “channelled” attack. I think I’m right in saying the projectile block only blocks “chain” type skills. Even if the chain is a continuous single skill like in the case of the autoattacks which were blocked.

The depth of the GW2 combat system is really something.

After doing some testing with the Revenant’s projectile blocker and destroyer (hammer 4 and Centaur stance 7, respectively) I discovered that not all ranged attacks are considered projectiles by the block mechanism and therefore aren’t blocked.

If it’s just Mesmer’s GS that doesn’t follow the rules it’s a pretty cool design. No projectile finisher on AA but it can’t be blocked by projectile blockers.

If there are a number of attacks/weapons which can’t be blocked like this then it sort of ruins my idea for a PvP build using them

If the downed AAs are anything to go by then Necromancer, Elementalist and Guardian may also have special attacks on their weapons like this too…

Mesmer GS aa is “special”. It is not a projectile.

Interesting, thanks for confirming this! I’ll have to look around the Wiki to see where this is documented. I’ve never realised.

It’s quite intriguing that the mirror blade is described as a projectile finisher in the tool tip but also isn’t blocked/destroyed by projectile block/destruction.

Upon further testing in Heart of the Mists the downed auto attacks of the Necromancer, Guardian, Elementalist and Mesmer are not blocked, the downed auto attacks of the thief, warrior, ranger and engineer are blocked.

There is no Revenant NPC to test.

They are ranged attacks… so this confirms my confusion. Why does my projectile blockers/destroyers block some and not others?

I’m a little confused and I wonder if anyone could clear this up for me.

I was playing with the Revenant’s hammer 4 (a projectile block) and ventari 7 (a projectile destructing dome).

I discovered that a Mesmer’s greatsword autoattack (and perhaps other skills) are not blocked by the hammer 4 or ventari 7.

Is this by design? What are the requisites for something to be considered a “projectile” by the engine? A downed autoattack is blocked and it does not have the “projectile finisher” description in the tooltip – neither does the greatsword autoattack.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing Revenant at any spare moment since launch. Before I played Revenant I was using my Elementalist – perhaps the most overpowered class in the game? It was always going to be rough I suppose!

In competitive play the profession, regardless of speccing, seems very weak to condi’s to me. I’m anticipating that Mallyx and the Corruption line will get a tweak over the coming weeks and I feel that I might be letting Revenant rest for a little while until then. For PvE content I will definitely still be using it however!

If you want to weapon swap underwater in order to make sigils proc you can wield 2 spears.

Hi,

The Salvation traits that should boost outgoing healing have no effect on healing whatsoever (regen or direct). The tooltips don’t update to show an increased heal either.

If I activate the Salvation line with Serene Rejuvenation and Selfless amplification I should be seeing a a 22.5% healing increase in PvP, however I looked at the healing without the trait line (and the same amulet) and the healing was no different.

There is some good news: testing amulets with healing power and without healing power did show a change in the amount of healing done!

This looks like a Revenant specific problem to me.

With the expansion approaching I’ve been previewing skins for my new character.

For items that can’t be found on the trading post I’ve been copying and pasting item link codes e.g. [&AgGqtgAA], saying it and clicking to preview the skin in question.

I got my chat commands blocked after the 6th or 7th skin! I had to abandon my previewing.

I may be a complete idiot – is there a better method than this?

If not I put forward a suggestion; allow chat link codes to be pasted directly into the preview window so that we don’t have an issue with having our chat suppressed (for spamming reasons).

I dealed with cc via stab on dodge trait also in herald line. It allowed me to pressure pretty well without being worries about all the junk ppl throwed at me.

Condi depends on class. Engi is easy to beat with hammer projectile block, ranger is in similiar situation except you also kite them. Condi mes – focus clones, watch out for beam and scepter block. Use hammer. If they get you to low hp swap to Glint, get some confusion and use heal. Tada baack to full.

Vs burn guards you dance around them with sword 3, sword block and hammer. If they fail initial burst you have 50% chance to win. Necros and wars are not issue at all.

Point is running double melee is the first mistake you can do. Hammer projectile block paired with Shiro to kite via riposting shadows really do wonders.

Good advise, I went for the stability on dodge roll method with my condi spec. I think it’s better to not be CCd in the first place than get CCd and use a stun-break.

Firstly, thanks for the insight guys. You’ve certainly given me some ideas I hadn’t considered as well as some I had.

Secondly on the question of the weapon swap/legend swap thing – I’m trying to get my head around how this could abuse the on-swap sigils…

When you legend swap it procs the sigils you currently have wielded -
You immediately weapon swap and it procs the sigils on your second weapon set.
When the timer is up you legend swap to proc the secondary weapon set again and
weapon swap to proc the first set of sigils.

Rinse – Repeat. That’s a max of 4 sigil effects every 10 or so seconds.

I think I’m right there, and maybe it could be abused but I don’t know… weapon swapping/legend swapping like that for me right now would mean staring at my skill bar/cd’s and losing the fight.

I will most likely go double energy/cleansing sigil.
Most of the time you dont swap weapons on cd, but when it comes to sigils, legend-switch counts as weapon swap as well, at least it did this last bwe.
Its not amazing, but its better than no condi removal at all.
Also running hoelbrak runes and lemongrass food helps.

I hear you on the condi concern, PvP alternative to your suggestions would be hoelbrak runes with 2x sigil of purity/generosity I guess.

I had noticed the legend swap counting as a weapon swap and forgotten about it.

I wonder if any of the Dev’s can confirm if this is intentional?

I was really hoping they’d have one Base-Line though… Dreams are crushed…

It is a little disappointing that it seems we won’t be seeing a condi ranged weapon for some time.

Longbow/Dagger or Main hand axe for me now after reading the thread would all be amazing.

You can’t really deal with condi on shiro/glint and that’s on purpose. CC you have dome access to stun break and you can always dodge.

Yes, but I’ve noticed some people posting videos of PvP and Roaming with this specs. I’m very interested to know how they dealt with condi’s.. run from the condi users or focus them down before they could condi burst perhaps?

Swap Glint for Mallyx in WvW roaming, Glint’s pretty cack for that, use her to build up some boons but switch to Mallyx before the fight begins if you know you’re going up against a condi user.

Well I hadn’t considered that and it’s a great idea! Not much use in PvP however wbere you’re locked into the legends.

In PvP or WvW roaming how did you guys deal with incoming conditions and CC?

I only had time to test a condi spec I was working on over the weekend and it strikes me that these two areas on this power spec could be fairly large weak points.

It strikes me that this is a missing piece to the Revenant. So, it’s fun brainstorming time – what ranged condi weapon would you like to see added to the Revenant’s kitten nal? How could you see the mechanics working?

I could see the sceptre creating some cool misty magic effects, although I must admit my knowledge of GW1 is 0 so I couldn’t comment on the specific old lore to pull on.

Honestly I’d like to see the skill revamped. I just don’t feel it’s worth using most the time. Too situational for an elite.

It seems more PvP and group WvW focused, although who knows what else we’ll see in raids.
