If you dont like the more flashy stuff, there are enough non-flashy alternatives you can use.

Please only allow one aura effect

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jojo.6140

Aura effects should neither be limited nor should there be an option to visually remove them. If someone got a 10k gold chak egg sac, he probably wants to show it off so others have to see it too.

How can some people be so offended by the way other people make their characters look like?

Proposal: gemstore item to remove time gating

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

This would only work as a single-time use item. Like a token for 800 gems that can be consumed and then resets the time-gated crafts for that day. But since you could trade those gems to gold and outright buy most of that time-gated stuff, such an item would probably end up like the upgrade-extractors, wich hardly anyone uses.

As for those timegates on the ls3-gathering nodes and some vendors, its to keep the maps populated.

Why Map Content Doesn't Last...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

Weapon skins, armour skins, glider skins, etc. all belong in the maps and away from the Gem Store. If this requires us to pay a bit more for Gem Store items, I think it wouldn’t be that bad. The fact is: You can put Black Lion Weapons on the Gem Store, but there needs to be a set for each new map, to keep the maps populated, alongside having well-made maps and meta events.

So how should they earn money? The alternative to selling skins for real money is selling power-advantages, like special items that permanently increase the damage of the weapon they are applied to. I dont think people prefer this.

Assuming they need the current output on skins for the gemstore to maintain the game, getting more skins as map-rewards means more work for them and they probably dont have the ressources to do so for ls-episodes.

I am not going to pay gold to get around a reward lock-out that Anet forced on me. I would rather leave the game.

That makes me curious though. Lets assume they would add a mastery-unlock-item at a vendor for 100g. Would that be better? You would still spend 100g to get what you want. Preferring one of those solutions so strongly over the other one is just irrational.

After two demo weekends what do we think?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jojo.6140

I really liked the first demo and im looking forward to the new areas, story, achievements, collections etc.

Really disliked the second demo though. Mirage is just bad. There is a topic on reddit that summarizes it pretty well: No dmg, no utility, no support. Maybe something for pvp, but not for pve.

I will still enjoy the new expac, but probably not on the new espec.

Am I the only one at least a little pleased?

Jojo.6140

Also yeah, in PvE it brings literally nothing to the group. But it’s not like we don’t still have chrono, and when we finally do get the ability to DPS really hard like the way holo can, we probably wont be constantly evading, dropping target, and juking.

And here is the problem: With chrono we already have an elite specialization with tons of ways to avoid damage with all the blocks and distortion. We however dont have a single option to make it a good damage dealer.

A spec that has some dmg potential would also make playing through the expansion a lot more enjoyable, since for the general pve content like open world and story instances, what matters are your offensive capabilities.

I dont get the point of this new spec. Mesmer already has high base-hp and distortion. Im just wondering how the dev-meeting for the mirage went. “Yeah, lets focus this spec about dmg-avoiding, this is what the mesmer truely lacks and what will offer new playstyles.”? I just dont get it.

As a mesmer main, this makes me sad. Instead of giving us a viable dps-spec for once, we get this crap where we have to run around to collect those mirrors to get access to some skills that feel like trash anyway. Damage is abysmal, but that was kinda to be expected.

My PoF Feedback, so far

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jojo.6140

Bad:
Cost of Identification:
Simply put, the cost is too high. If I’m going to get charged about 14 silver to ID just 8 items, and then have most of them still just be crappy greens, I’m now operating at a loss. Simply selling them is not optimal as there might be necessary things in there and same goes for salvaging without ID. I don’t mind there being a cost, but as of right now 50 copper per would be way easier of a pill to swallow than the 1.7 silver. That adds up way too fast and i don’t think its fair to expect people to need to grind gold to find out they are holding into mostly junk items.

To be fair, getting gold these days is really easy and with the amount of new gold-sources added they just need some gold-sinks i guess. Just through doing the dailies you get enough gold to identify over 100 pieces of equipment. Doing daily t4s gives you gold for another 2 stacks to identify at least, and thats just the average raw gold you get there.

I think they also did this to reduce inventory clutter a bit. Instead of having tons of single equipment pieces after playing for an hour, they now stack up nicely. You can also directly salvage then and wont have you inventory cluttered with green sigils and runes, although you might probably identify them since they can give new skins aswell.

Mounts - Feedback

Jojo.6140

As ive already written in another thread, i really like the controls of the raptor. It feels like my char is really riding an animal with a certain weight, wich cant just instantly run at top speed or stop from it and need a bit of space. Traveling around with the new mount is what i enjoy most about this demo atm.

Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

The stopping/starting is MS triggering. I get that it is a big lizard, and perhaps not easy to stop or stop, but this is a fantasy game. The mount should stop just as easily as our characters. If we really were riding a mount, our bodies would get input from the way the animal moves, and we’d anticipate the motions. We don’t have that input, and designing the mounts to mimic those motions in the game without our being able to anticipate it ends up being jarring for the senses. The stopping issue also makes the attack skill really hit-or-miss.

I strongly disagree. I really like that the mount reacts a bit delayed. After all, you dont control the mount directly, you control your char wich is riding the mount. I think it feels really organic this way. You cant just do an instant 180, the raptor has to run a small half-circle instead and im very glad about it.

In most other MMOs mounts feel just like a thing wich gives your char a speedboost and has a cool skin, but here it feels like your char is riding a real animal.

If you get too frustrated with it id take a step back, and especially if youve spent countless hours the last few days, take a few days break from this particular fractal.

I envy everyone who has a static group for fractals, as it seems to be almost undoable with pugs atm (not talking about the exp ones that require title+cosmis essences).

Also i feel like 100cm is harder than Matt (wich can be oneshotted by the average pug nowadays) and even Deimos (still well doable with the average pug). I cant really describe what it is, but in those encounters all attacks are so well telegraphed and the whole fight is so clean and coordinated, while in this fractal the fight feels just so chaotic.

They did it right with introducing more ways to acquire legendary armor imo. As someone who already owns the raid armor, im glad for others who dont like that kind of content to get the possibility of getting armor with stat swapping. At the same time im pleased that the skin of the raid armor stays exclusive to raids.

I did it with a d/d thief. At the start, just stay at the entrance and let the debuffs come in. Once they stack up to 25, they will go back to 1 and you will get an alacrity buff every now and then. Then just go in and use all your skills once on the enemy. After, make some distance and it will only attack you with throwing daggers, wich do almost no dmg. Wait for your skills to recharge and rinse and repeat. Took me like 20-30 minutes.

and of course had the balls to go grab a code off the internet that substituted my personal LI’s with much higher number than I had as I would never be able to get into PUG otherwise (what a dumb concept).

So let me translate this: You were too lazy to join a raid training group and instead preferred to lie about your experience so that you can get carried by experienced groups.

Then you were too lazy to do the raid clears over a longer timeframe and wanted it rather to have immediately, despite it being legendary tier equipment, the highest tier there is and naturally a longterm goal.

I think the new pvp and wvw legendary armors will just aswell require a certain amount of time to get (gated through wvw- or pvp-tickets), and thats just how it should be.

WTF did you do to fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

The new fractal is fine at the higher difficulties, but the 25 one could get toned down a bit. Failing mechanics should be less punishing there. What happens, if a player with bomb doesnt go into the dome? If i remember right, it was something around 10k damage everyone got? Thats just too punishing for T1.

You need to consider that the lowest tier is the entry lvl, group composition wildly varies (many groups there do it without a healer) and many players are new to the content. Id suggest to reduce the damage you get for failed mechanics.

Im writing this based on the experience i had when i first tryed that fractal casually on T1. And yes, i did beat it later on T4, but with the T1-group it wasnt happening.

AT monetary rewards... severely lacking

in PvP

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

The rewards are fine as they are imo. Im actually a bit concerned by all the raw gold thats getting given out through those tournaments. The monthly tournaments alone flush in 7500+ gold monthly into the economy. Hope they are keeping an eye on it.

Rewards of daily tournaments are in line with the other gamemodes. The ~11g you get for first place equal the approximate rewards of 2-3 raid bosses, depending on wing. And where raids have a set difficulty everyone has to pass, in pvp you might just get lucky and get one bad team after another.

If they should change anything, its reducing the raw gold and instead give out some more mats.

They could make the content so you could actually learn it from in game experience in the first place. Like any good game designer knows to do without being battered about it by their audience.

It is already that way. Things like videos only help you to learn faster, but it can all be done ingame only too. Or how do you think did the first groups do the encounters when there where no guides at that time?

The game teaches very well. Not enough people on greens? Getting damage! Ofc you have to make the connection betwenn “not doing greens” and “getting damage” yourself, but like every person should be capable of making this conclusion after a few tries.

How would you like Anet to teach you better? Do you want a sign before each boss wich explains you all the mechanics in detail?

A power ghostly infusion currently sells for around 250g on TP, so lets say 200g minus taxes. That means that 100 magnetite shards are worth 20g. That means a ascended chest piece costs around 95g. The special weapon skins are 120g. Only some armor parts like gloves or shoulders are actually cheaper than the methods via pvp or or fractals.

So overall i think its pretty well balanced already.

Also it takes a bit more effort to get magnetite shards than for example ascended shards of glory imo.

For PvP, this will add a considerable cost to the acquisition of ascended gear. Please note that you will be able to buy gear with current prices until the update is live.

So if you read this and didnt spend your shards before the patch its basically just your fault. I mean, how explicit do they have to be in saying “better spend them now, it will get more expensive soon”?

Dragonball = Zero fun

Dragonball is pretty much designed to be unfair and lopsided. Otherwise, everyone would have all the skills right away at the beginning instead of having to collect orbs, but as it is its not possible to win anymore if your team got wiped out. Might just aswell leave then and hope for a better match next time, at least if you are after the wins.

no, what is the exact impact of 10 placement matches?

I agree that 10 matches arent enough to determine an exact ranking. But isnt the exact, final ranking kinda the goal of this season? I think with more matches played everyone will get closer to the division they belong.

In this subforum many players claim to be the only one with a clue in their team. I recently had a match where 3 people in my team were yelling at each other, everyone of them thought he/she were the best and everyone else were scrubs. What i want to say is i just dont buy it. Im playing in bronze myself and ive seen so many people rage in teamchat in the last few days who rushed far at start just to die there, dont use blocks on their DH and melt within seconds etc. There are quite a few players overrating their own skill-lvl.

What im wondering more about is all the chat-rage ingame. It happened sometimes in the last seasons (i didnt play too much pvp back then) and i thought it was because people were mad for loosing pips and winning streaks and thus progression to their legendary. I expected less rage with the change to the reward structure but actually i havent seen so much rage and toxicity like in the last few days.

ftfy

no but seriously, MMR of both teams facing each other is in the same range. So even if you get bad teammates, the enemy team should be bad aswell. So if you cant win against them, you are on the same skill-lvl as them and thus belong in the divison youre currently in.

Id suggest to improve own playstyle instead of blaming others. Its really amazing how much rage people ive seen the last few days in pvp.

PPL Afking on purpose being punished?

in PvP

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

Because it is competition.

The thing is though, that there is a chunk of players who dont play for the competition but for the rewards, might that be achievements, champion titles, reward tracks or the legy backpack. Ending lost games faster is one strategy for them to get the rewards faster and thus more efficient. Thats all.

Im wondering though why some people are so raging about it. If I see someone in my team going afk i usually just go afk aswell cause 4v5 isnt winable anymore. So just chill and wait for the next match to come.

Btw OP did you use a transparent tool to edit your second screenshot on purpose so everyone can still read the names?

Materials needed for Legendary Armor

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jojo.6140

Jojo.6140

Since the name of the collection is similar to the 1. generation precursors, i guess the 2nd collection will be called something like

Envoy Armor II: The Perfected Armor

where you just need to craft a lot of stuff (like first 250 basic armor sets and then 250 of both components for repairing) and also spending several currencies, maybe magnetite shards too. So maybe besides the ascended stuff its also a good idea to hoard some bolts of silk, thick leather and mithril ingots.

6 gifts of maguuma mastery seem a bit excessive, but there is still collection 3 (and maybe 4?) where they can do something similar like they did in the last fractal collection (infuse a gift of maguuma mastery to receive a collection item)

Legendary insights work as i timegate. Assuming that wing 3 also brings 3 bosses, you would be limited to a maximum of 9 insights per week. I guess they wont introduce a timegate much longer than probably 8 weeks, wich would be 72 insights (considering most people would need longer, since most cant kill all bosses every week)
