Kain got stacked by a LOT of guilds and WM / CO promised to stomp every server and guild on the way to the top. They stalled in t-2 and WM and CO packed up and blamed Kain for the failure and moved to T-1 servers. I feel bad for the honored Kainenites.

I got left behind and am slowly trying to work up enough gold to transfer. There are still a few of us here with this problem.

I would say there were………personality issues that caused CO to leave Kain. It was becoming a serious drama fest so us leaving really was for the best……and I mean us as the non-inclusive us

Despite all that, Kain had spirit before we got here and still has a fire inside that will not die! The sportsmanship and friendliness they showed in T8 lives on to this day. I’m proud to still be here though I do miss my guildies. Battle on, Kaineng!

3. Vs. veterans, and difficult single targets – Pistols are your friends. The main things I use them for are Body Shot (for stacks of Vulnerability), Headshot (you can chain these together with a regular Vital Shot in between and lock down an enemy for a good 5-8 seconds or more), and Unload. Occasionally I’ll use Black Powder but it’s expensive and generally not worth it in a group setting. The main thing I make sure to do is interrupt their big attacks if possible and, given the nature of initiative, it often is.

4. Vs. bosses – These are the battles in which you won’t shine but I’ve found that most other players are set up for direct damage so the loss of damage from you is not so big a deal. What you can do to help is keep the boss poisoned, bleeding, crippled, and vulnerable to some extent. In addition, set yourself up as the main utility/healer of the group. Make sure you use combo fields as always and and make sure nobody dies. Alert your group in advance to retreat to any ranger Healing Springs if they are in trouble and area heal like mad if anyone needs it. Grant area armors, buffs, and debuffs often.

5. Things to note – The utility skills I’ve picked are the ones which work best for the way I play. I use Caltrops often a like to herd my enemies into them or just roll in, throw them down, and roll away before carpet bombing the area for damage and bleeds. Shadow Refuge is on there because I like to be able to hide people who go down (even though they often don’t get it and just reveal themselves) and I like to have a last resort to keep myself alive in case of disaster. Signet of Shadows, well obviously you can replace that with something else if you like but I generally find moving fast to be of great benefit to me.

That’s pretty much it. I generally don’t have groups wipe on my watch and also seem to keep them alive quite often without them even noticing that I’m doing so. The truth is most people who play do not understand combo fields so don’t expect praise of any sort. Usually the melee players will just think they are awesome and the glowing bubbles are surrounding them because they are just that awesome. Elementalists who are on their game will notice you using their combo fields and start placing them more often and more dependent on what finisher will aid the party…elementalists really are your best friends out there.

Overall this build is highly mobile. It’s a kiting build for solo play and a util build for team play. Are there better builds? Most likely. This one, however, really plays off team dynamics and utilizes the tools that your teammates lay out for you.

Feedback is welcome so long as it’s constructive As I’ve said, I’m no pro so I’m fully willing to try new things so long as they don’t change the style of my play from utilitarian to a straight up aggressive berserker stereotype.

Hi. I’m a PvE centered thief and you’d be lucky to get me in your dungeon run group :-)

My Current PvE Team Build

Now note that I have not done any optimization of this setup and it is not my style to do so. I play rather casually and, as such, do not really have the deep knowledge of every skill and ability that many other have or claim to have.

What I do have is (a) a mastery of the dodge mechanic, (b) and understanding of combo fields and finishers, and © an insatiable desire to aid my party.

If you want to try the build, here’s my advice:

1. When approaching a mob, use your speed to get a little ahead of the group and set Caltrops. Dodge back (behind the rest of your group) and let the mob run through. This will clump them all up, apply bleeds & cripple, and set up the fight for your casters.

2. Vs. generic mobs – once the group engages, have your shortbow ready. Throw down a Choking Gas field and spam Cluster Bomb. Let the first one hit in the field to cause Area Weakness and burst the rest right before they hit the ground, causing 3 stacks of bleed per bomb per foe. I haven’t done the necessary scientific research but it hits pretty much every enemy in the mob. I used to kill centaurs in Hirathi before the nerfed the event (they used to come all at once…all 7 waves. I was never able to solo the 100+ centaurs that would show up in a line over that bridge but I made it to wave 6 a few times).

2a. Make sure you keep poison on the mob (though I’ve found that others often apply poison regardless of whether or not the target is already poisoned) and watch for teammate’s combo fields. The best ones to watch for are fire and water. Get right in those and spam your bombs at your own feet so that there is no wait between shooting them and their detonation. Stack as much area might or healing as you can. Ring of Fire (elementalist) lasts 6 seconds so you can get 9-12 stacks of area might from that. Healing Spring (ranger) lasts 15 seconds so will get you 5-8k area health from it (obviously stop doing that if everyone is healed or ignoring your heals). Ignore the enemy and hit those fields. Your team will love you for it even though, most of the time, they have no idea what you are doing. Here is a list of blast finishers and you should know them and what they do.

Remember that Cluster Bomb is you can fire in any direction. You don’t have to be facing your target. Also remember that you are unique in that you have a repeatable blast finisher which always applies boons/conditions to the entire area. Additionally, it only costs 3 initiative. With your 15, you can use this pretty much as much as you want.

2b. Almost every attack you have is a Projectile Finisher. Some are small and some are full but pretty much every shot you fire should be through a combo field if possible. Position yourself wisely.

Here is a list of things that you need to do before Sunday (in order of release)

1: Acts of kindness (reviving/assisting Refugees, lighting bonfires, repairing signs, gathering mementos)

2: Kill a bunch of Molten Invaders (they are any enemies related to the story, not specifically from events)

3: Find the 6 Dirt/Snow Covered Objects in Diessa Plateau/Wayfarer Foothills and return them to the Refugees in Lion’s Arch (3 in each zone)

4: Visit the Black Citadel and get a translator from the Whispers Agent

5: Find the 12 secret messages around Diessa Plateau/Wayfarer Foothills, the locations are in a letter the Whispers Agent gives you (6 per zone)

6: Visit the Command Core in the Black Citadel and see Rox and Rytlock’s conversation

7: Complete The Hatchery instance in Diessa Plateau

8: Visit the Blood Tribune Quarters and watch Braham and Rytlock’s conversation

9: Visit Hoelbrak and watch Braham’s conversation with Knut

10: Complete the Cragstead instance in Wayfarer Foothills

11: Complete the Molten Foundry dungeon in Diessa Plateau/Wayfarer Foothills

12: Visit the Black Citadel’s jail and watch Rox and Rytlock’s conversation

13: Visit Hoelbrak and watch Braham’s conversation with Knut

14: Visit the Black Citadel/Hoelbrak/Lion’s Arch on the 12th and sit at the celebration bonfire to complete the Living Story

That’s everything :P

It’s fine. I haven’t seen a group fail that event yet even though a lot of players tend to go down during it. That means it’s fine in my book.

Let there be at least a few events in this game that are actually somewhat challenging, please……….or at least some that I can’t solo.

ima have to say this but really it seemed like tc and bg united forces at kain BL they both attacked our garrison 2 hours straight, we had our 3 gates down for about 20 minutes and the fight at lords room was still going, all we could do was res lord and respawn and keep attacking, while TC and BG didnt kil each other but helped build siege inside garri to kill our defenders, PD i manged to sneak into bay for 2 hours with a mesmer, Kain could have portal bombed very easily but every one was busy at garrison, check better for mesmers next time :P

ima have to say this but really….please don’t start this again. If they team up, it’s the strategic thing to do in the moment. I wouldn’t waste my energy fighting one enemy while the one who owns the structure we were both gunning for sits back and laughs at us.

That’s just being smart so please don’t worry about it :-)

6 deaths tonight and every one because I suddenly found myself surrounded by BG hordes when I thought I was on the fringe of battle. I really hope they figure this out. It’s been my #1 top priority issue with this game since day 1.

I have to say I underestimated my own server. Where in the world have all you queuers been hiding? I waited over 2 hours tonight just to get in!

ps – Doylaks safe. Time to soothe the Quaggan opposition before they bury us in Beanie Babies.

This kind of comment really shows the disconnect in the discussion, in my opinion.

You seem to be trying to make a sincere post, so I will take it on that face value, but the truth is that the only server that ‘on average’ cares about winning, is Kain. Neither DB nor Mag won last week either, and neither server is likely to win this coming week. Free transfers ended, we all choose to come to our new homes, or stay with old ones, knowing the situation of those servers and if winning was our concern, we would have picked different servers.

It was sincere :-) I like interacting with other players whether I play with them or against them and, yes, I can see why it would be perceived as a disconnect but I find that sometimes people need to hear a positive voice from a server that is generally being painted negatively……just to remind everyone we are here also.

I actually wrote a long response but somewhere in the middle of it all, the forums decided I wasn’t logged in any more so it’s gone and I don’t have the patience to rewrite it.

The gist of it was that many of us picked Kaineng due to it’s indomitable willpower and positive outlook in the face of WvW defeat for so many weeks. I think a lot of those people are still here and hope that, in the weeks to come, such spirit will prove to still exist on Kaineng.

So yes, I think a loss will be good for our server….not that I’ll go down without a fight, mind you ;-)

Kaineng needs an epic beat down and , speaking for myself only , would love for my server to face them. I’m still bitter about being spawn camped by 30 + Kaineng while my old server could only muster 5 – 10 people by the end of the week lol.

I admire the skill of Kaineng being able to beat servers that have a lot less wvw population. Good luck in T2 Kaineng, I have a feeling you’ll need it.

I get the feeling some of Kaineng hasn’t been to the upper tiers before but I have. Having been a native SBI, I’ve seen T1/2 pressures and they really are 24/7.

While I can’t imagine WM numbers pulling in anything under T3 when they are fully active, I don’t think our NA presence is quite enough to keep up with our opposition during the day. I get the feeling that, when the dust settles, we will find ourselves torn between T2 and T3 simply because of our oceanics.\

It’s unfortunate, really. I’m sure they feel the same way we do when they spend all of their evening fighting tooth and nail (which will happen in upper tiers) only to wake up in their morning with everything lost. I can definitely say CO will do our best to make sure that doesn’t happen but the upper tiers are crazy high pressure and, from what I’ve seen, we just don’t have the NA daytime numbers to make it happen.

That being said, I will be happy wherever we end up on the boards so long as we don’t settle in T1. WvW is pretty fun regardless of who I am fighting against.

I’d also like to say (though most of you know it) that you tend to get back what you put out in these forums. I see a lot of animosity beginning early in these threads just because people don’t like to lose and like losing badly even more. Insults begin being thrown back and forth, tensions rise, and before you know it all that’s left is a venomous environment.

Most of the people I encounter on Kaineng are friendly, happy, and fun-loving. I know things can get heated and some players are not as skilled as others but, should we ever encounter each other again, let’s try and keep it a little nicer in here. I had a great time fighting you all when things were even. I encountered DBs much more often than Mags but it was good times, regardless. I know plenty of you feel the same and I do not judge your servers by any of the negativity shown here. Please don’t judge mine by any that we’ve shown either :-)

You’re missing the main point…but anyway…thanks for the insult :P …. I hardly use the dodge mechanic and surprisingly I don’t think I’m that mediocre………strange how some people think that the way they play is the only way that should be played….

Please don’t take that the wrong way. I don’t mean to be insulting at all. I really don’t. It just seems to me that every character in this game has a regenerating invulnerable switch that lasts 1 second every time you use it. Not using it leaves any player at a disadvantage compared to someone who does.

There are enemies in this game who will one-shot you no matter what your toughness or health. You have to be able to dodge or you will go down to them.

I don’t think they are giving Laurels for the monthly this month as people who completed it early would lose out. They say that a monthly gives 10 Laurels though so that’s how much you will usually get.

Thanks for the new dailies, now when I see the “dodger” or “crafter” I know its time to take a break from this game, because I will not be doing them at all, Its annoying to dodge npc attacks and the game simply fails at that. I dont really want to farm the mats or spend gold to complete the crafter. I am not going to spend hours trying to get the killing blow with combo, I will not bother trying to do a combo skill with my friends because we dont have hours to spend trying to hit abilities after abilities in specific order. I hate underwater combat so Underwater Kills is a no go for me,

“Crafter” I can kind of understand being upset over but “dodger”? Really? I said it above; who doesn’t dodge in this game? Dodge is a full second of invulnerability and that is invaluable in this game.

Basicly you gave me the freedom of having an option not to play this game whenever the dailies suck balls.

Earlier the dailies simply accompanied my gameplay, now you made them a chore, and I do not play games to do chores.

There are other things to do in this game beside dailies….or are you telling me you simply log in, do your daily, and log out? If that’s all you do, I’m not sure why you play at all anyway.

Previous ones could be done while leveling, while helping friends who just started this game, basicly the previous dailies completed themselves for me while I leveled or played the way I wanted to play this game, for the new ones I have to make a stop and take a left turn instead of right turn. The new ones? Been trying to dodge stupid attacks for an hour, most of the times I just dont recive any damage, but it seems like I am doing it wrong, because I dont see any message, I just dont get hit by attacks…

If it’s not registering correctly, they will fix it. Despite that, if you find a creature with a big wind-up, you can probably learn to time it properly. It can be done. I did it, no sweat :-)

I didn’t have a problem with yesterday’s daily list (gather X, kill variety X, events X, dodge X, and revive X), but that’s in large part because:

A. I play WvW and like it
B. I find dodging attacks easy and its an integrated technique for me.

But I can already see how the dodge X, revive X can be unfriendly to solo players or players who don’t like PvP. And the two failed attempts you yanked for the emergency patch (craft X and kill with combo X) are likewise very unfriendly to solo players or players who don’t enjoy crafting.

Revive X: Yeah, I thought this was bad as well until I learned reviving NPCs counts. If worst comes to worst, just give a shout-out in map chat asking if anyone is willing to leap to their death for you. I don’t even think it should come to that. If you are of level to do it, killing Jormag and reviving those who fall in battle will easily net you enough revives to get this one.

Craft X: Yeah, this one perplexes me a little. The way I will handle it is to have an alt slowly leveling by craft. I’ll just have him craft the daily each day and then stop. This should last me forever. If, for whatever reason, that character hits 80, I’ll just start on another one.

Combo X: I didn’t have a chance to do this one. Is it combo fields or just an assisted kill? If it’s an assisted kill, NPCs probably count, making it easy. If it’s combo fields, Most characters have both combo fields and finishers they can activate solo to satisfy this requirement.

All are capable solo (I did my daily alone last night) with a minimal effort.

Not so easy as you might think against a good commander. Doable but not just by roaming around in a small group hunting for an enemy commander. You need to lay traps, force engagements on your own terms, and corner their forces in unexpected ways.

A good RISE, CO, or WM commander (sorry for the guilds I’ve left out) will likely be keeping a solid view over the progress of any battle and already have a viable escape plan for those willing to listen to them. If things start to go sour, they will call for a regrouping and back away from the fight.

You will have to be Ender, seeking out the single queen Bugger amid the swarm of enemies ;-)

Do we really have to have this discussion again? We’ve already beaten it to death and buried it’s bones…..is exhumation truly necessary?

While you’re only seeing WM when outnumbered, I’ve watched with glee as they charged into the midst of 40-60 man “whole server zergs” with their 15 guildies and totally demolished them. It’s almost spellbinding to watch them move in near perfect concert given all the distractions, lag, culling, stealth, portal bombs and whatnot that are the WvW norm. It’s not the numbers that are so interesting it’s the coordination and sheer discipline they show.

So yeah, you’ll have forgive me if I happen to be of a different opinion than you. At same time I happily admit you’re entitled to yours!

Well said. It’s important to not that this is not and was never meant to be a 1v1 game. Beating someone in a 1v1 match is well and good but it’s not surprising that someone who flourishes amid combo fields and is built to fight groups of enemies would fall to someone built for a 1v1 fight.

[WM] is very strong and very skilled (I played with them on SBI a lot) so I would say watch their group tactics and judge from that. They work together, keep an eye on the members of their party, and use positioning plus combo fields to their advantage. As you said, I’ve watched a small group of them jump into the fray while hopelessly outnumbered and come out on top. I’ve also seen a party of 5 of them (and 5 of us) defend a tower from an entire swarm of enemy HoDs. The enemy inevitably broke in and my party took the stairs, figuring we would hold them there. They never got past the [WM] party at the gate in enough force to give us any trouble.

They may not all be good but some of them are amazingly good.

Well, I see this thread has kind of degraded into (mostly) anger towards Kaineng so I’ll try to be brief.

I wish EB and Dev nothing but luck and good times in their future matches. I realize it may have been frustrating to fight against a server with such a sudden influx of WvW guilds but at least it’s almost done now.

I pretty much only did the JPs this week because PvD is not my cup of tea. Hopefully next week will be more even for all of us :-)

As for all those insulting us for switching servers, hate all you like. I know why I switched and all your accusations really make no difference to me. I will say that I didn’t join just to harvest badges from lower tier servers and, in fact, I’ve gotten less badges in the two weeks that I’ve been on Kaineng fighting doors that I would usually get in a single week of T1 WvW. I – and I could probably say ‘we’ for the most part – didn’t come here just to feel powerful. I’d go into more detail as to why I came here but I have a feeling I’d just get flamed for doing so.

Instead I’ll just give best wishes and kindest regards to both your servers and a big thank you to Kaineng for welcoming so many of us with open arms. You guys asked for WvW guilds and kept a fantastic attitude towards WvW even when you were dead last. It will be a pleasure playing with you and look forward to meeting more of you in both battlegrounds and PvE Tyria :-)

To the ele running around trying to solo gank people (including me). I am a bunker ele…. you don’t have the damage on an elementalist to kill me period, even if you were in pure damage gear. After the fifth time trying you really should stop. If you want to do real damage 1v1, you might want to consider a different class or not attacking bunker builds. Edit: Oh and I wasnt attacking you back, even to CC you… Thanks!

That reminds me, I also wanted to give a nice big /smile to all the friendly enemies I encountered in the jumping puzzles this week (both SoR and TC). Likely enough you were all like me and just in it for the badges, not the siege (who doesn’t have endless siege by now?), so why fight each other , right?

I even had one run where I teamed up with 2 TC and 1 SoR in the dark room. That was an dance party ending Martin Luther King Jr. would have been proud of……..followed by a 1v1 single elimination competition where even the first TCs buddy held back when his friend died.

Congratulations to SoR on that match. Your Jumping Puzzle Cage Match representative (a guardian whose name I will likely never know) did your server proud and won the grand prize :-D

I have to say, I am much more comfortable not being in a top server but I never wanted to leave SBI because all my online friends were there. Having a queue time of zero on most nights and always having battles to fight on all 4 battlegrounds is definitely choice for me.

I very much look forward to next week and a challenge that will be fun, rather than tedious, to overcome.

honestly this is the best I have seen the forums been in a while. The amount of trash talk when BG was here was unbelievable…… SBI and TC have really great sportsmanship, I prefer being in any tiers with great sportsmanship than on tiers with people who decide to laugh at you after fighting 5v1 or how saying doubleteaming in wvw is strategy but start complaining how its unfair when they hit tier 1, its laughable honestly…(its about time someone put bg in their place)

If BG likes to trash talk and accuse their opponents of ganging up or cheating, they should fit right in with SoS and JQ in the T1 thread. I have a feeling that a lot of SBI was like me and stopped playing because there was a sever lack of “let’s just have fun and do what we do” there. I’ve been having a great time in T2 (That 2 hour – I didn’t even realize it was so long – Bay Keep battle someone posted a video of here was one of my favorite battles to date in WvW) and hope BG manages to keep their T1 position so we can keep fighting you guys :-D

The battles are just as challenging but there is no stopping to /laugh or whatever else the GW2 equivalent of Qauke-style-corpse-teabaging there is…..which just leaves a bad taste in your mouth, so to speak. I walk away from battles with TC and SoS smiling regardless of the outcome. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that way in WvW.

ps – Props to [Choo] for a great guild name…I love seeing groups of them and shouting out “The Train’s coming!”

This thread is a total breath of fresh air from the whiny accusatory thread that is T1. I seriously never want to play or interact with those guys again. The sportsmanship and good nature here in T2 makes me want to run out there and kill you guys :-D

These all look good to me and would be valuable improvements in the BLTC interface. I would also like to put forward the idea of adding a digit to the ordering process so the maximum is in the thousands rather than 250.

I understand the whole concept of ‘buying a single stack’ but for those of us who want to buy 8000 of something, it is pretty tedious.

But yeah it cheapens the game in my eyes, i had motivation to farm not one but two legendary items. Then everyone and there mum had one. I knew eventually a fair few people will have them over time but knowing people can join the game and be aesthetically decked out within the first few minutes saddens me and lost all motivation on farming another.

You both need to stop spending so much time worrying about what other people look like and just be happy you can make yourself look good. Just because a lot of people use the helmet I use doesn’t make me like it less or cheapen my look in any way. Legendary weapons are difficult to obtain because they have more advanced skins than the majority of other weapons.

If you want a legendary, go ahead and build up towards it. It doesn’t matter who else has one.

Personally, I think stacks of Aegis would be too powerful. You can already re-apply it 4-5 times along with a blocking heal.

I am by no means an expert at guardian but Aegis seems pretty good as it is to me :-)

I know this is the internet but stop arguing just to argue and think about why/if you really care to fight against people who just want to be able to put their pet away for 5 minutes without it popping back out again.

This isn’t about arguing against it, but realizing that it’s not going to happen, because it’s made the way it is by design. It is not a mistake. So instead of hating your pet, it makes a lot more sense if you take the time to learn how to manage it. But having your pet permanently stowed also brings a whole series of problems with it.. And personally, I’d rather have them focus on fixing the Rangers traits instead, or work on making the pet AI even better.

Pray tell, what series of problems is that? You can un-stow a pet at any time. There is no cooldown for that, just one to re-stow it.

Saying that something kind of sucks but it is the way it is doesn’t fly with me. The code isn’t chiseled out of solid granite at Anet central. They can change anything they want to change in this game and they should really want to change this. If you haven’t experience the annoying side of pets, you either haven’t played ranger much or you never do any of the things I (and many others) do on a weekly basis.

Run down a hill when in combat mode, pet runs a different way and drags alternate path aggro right to you. Can we solve it? Sure, switching pets will fix the situation but we shouldn’t have to do that. Our pet should run down the hill with us.

And if we decide we want to run around without fighting, why shouldn’t we be able to tell our pet to sod off for a bit? I know we currently can’t and maybe ANet wants it that way but me and many other players are begging them to rethink that position.

All you are doing is telling us to stop asking for stuff (or stop asking for stuff that you don’t really care about one way or the other….unless you are telling me you’d shed tears on the day we could permanently stow our pets).

Personally, I see an easy divide when it comes to exploits. Those that come from external sources (ie. hacking, gold selling, botting) deserve to be ejected from the game. Those that come from within the game (ie. taking advantage of development errors and other in-game code exploits) deserve to be stripped of all items and gold and suspended for X days.

That’s my opinion, at least. I see a big difference between someone who is maliciously hacking the game or seeking to gain an advantage via external means versus someone who is just using the game’s own mechanics to their advantage.

If you haven’t done anything wrong, submit a ticket and then you will have your account back in a few days or weeks, if you can’t wait that long I would advice you to take a break from pc/video-games and enjoy the real world.

Here’s my problem with that…

I would have had no idea that the most recent exploit (Snowflake) was an exploit. I would have bought supplies crafted those for hours, completely unaware that I was doing anything wrong simply because I could have done the same for any other recipe in the game with a higher starting cost on the TC.

I would have thought, “Great! Nobody knows that mithril and snowflakes should be valuable yet!” and I would have bought them in bulk, crafted earrings until I was sick of doing so, and then sold off whatever I had left when the price of snowflakes was high enough (ie. once the players balanced out the market prices). Then I would have sold off my excess ecto once their prices rose again once the snowflakes were all used up.

Why wouldn’t any rational person do that?

If this had happened, I could not have said I didn’t intentionally use an “exploit” because I would have used it intentionally. The difference (and the heart of the problem with this one) is that I would have had no idea that what I was intentionally doing was considered an exploit in the first place. It’s crafting and salvaging just like any other craft/salvage operation.

The forums would be full of people calling me a liar and everyone saying that I knew what I did was wrong while I was doing it. It would be all on me to somehow prove that the situation I just described was the truth and, somehow, I doubt I’d be able to do so.

This is what makes me nervous. Being banned for exploiting the game without even realizing I am doing so and then having to convince some service rep that I didn’t know and that, unlike all the people who did know and did it anyway, I really was ignorant of any wrong doings.

Personally, I think they should hand out suspensions for people taking advantage of their own coding mistakes and save perma-bans for people who are maliciously cheating the game like hackers, gold sellers, and bots.

I think you folks are looking at forum threads and seeing a mountain where there is merely a molehill. There are more than 2 million Guild Wars 2 accounts. Yes, 2,000,000+ accounts! With player volumes that high, there will be cheaters, exploiters, scammers, and of course, the occasional and deeply regretted error on our part, the unwarranted suspension or closure of an account. I don’t know of any system that doesn’t have some degree of false positives, but we are working to reduce those as much as possible.

So when you see “I was suspended, and all I did was [this thing]” keep in mind that (1) the issue will be given a fair review and (2) you may not be seeing the facts of the case.

Here’s the problem I have, Gaile (good to see you in GW2, btw! It brings me waaay back when I see your name…). I would have been banned for the most recent crafting ‘exploit’ if I only had someone in my guild who figured it out early.

I don’t run numbers on the TP. I don’t figure out the math in detailed numbers like many people do. I would have just seen a way to make money and I would have gone for it without ever even considering that I was doing something wrong.

That definitely scares me a little. If, one day, a guild-mate says, “Hey, take advantage of these trading company prices and craft/salvage/Mystic Forge dynamics before the community catches on!” do I have to say no and ask ANet’s permission first?

I am an honest player and always have been but I could easily be banned right now. How can I feel free to just play without having to over-analyze everything I do when something like this (that I wouldn’t have recognized as an exploit) can get me banned?

This won’t impede my play style or anything but it’s certainly a little disconcerting, you know?

This is a MMO, this is not real life. We come here to escape Real Life. I will not worry about how much money I make ingame or how much I financially “compete” with other Players. If I want to act like a “financial elite wannabe” I will do so in real life, not in a MMO. There are much better and more efficient ways to do that outside of Guild Wars 2.

If I want to make money in GW2 I will play the game and sell the good stuff on AH so others can get thier hands on it. That way others benefit and so do I. Mini’s are fluff and I treat them as such. That doesn’t mean I should be able to make a profit on them. I treat them as additional rewards for playing GW2, that is all.

I have no argument or objection to the Mini’s being account bound. None whatsoever. Wintersday is supposed to be for fun, like this MMO.

I think you are missing the point. Just the fact that you CAN spend real money and get something that is completely useless to you (ie. a duplicate account bound mini-pet) is bad business. The only thing to do is to delete it.

It’s not about being financially competitive with gold nor is it about the completionists who want every pet. It’s not about whether minis are fluff or a differently designated content. It’s not even about allowing profitable trade as the concept of making a profit off of these things is somewhat ludicrous when people are dumping $50 and getting a single mini-pet.

Wintersday is fun and so is this MMO but there is really zero reason to account bind the mini-pets. That doesn’t make it more fun for anyone. Not me (who doesn’t even want a mini-pet), not you (who would or would not trade mini-pets), and certainly not those who want to collect them.

Is there anyone in this game who has more fun because they are account binding holiday mini-pets? Do tell me who they are.

Yep. Originally numbers like 25% were being tossed around and some people said it couldn’t be less than 10%.

People also hadn’t fully considered the draw-back of recieving a random amount of an account bound non-consumable item you will never need more than 1 of.

Ah yeah. I think the rates are closer to 2~5% per pet which is pretty bad for something you can’t get rid of if you are unlucky.

I think it’s unacceptable to have drop rates as low as they are even if they aren’t “2~5%.” It’s foreseeable that someone could spend 500$ and might not have all three mini-pets.

No, what’s unacceptable is you could spend $500, get 3 of the same thing and be unable to trade 2 of them. You basically just have to delete the extra mini-pets.

Whatever the chances are, ANet is under no obligation to share them with us. Account bounding the items for those who are lucky enough to win is just plain mean.

Seeing Legendaries on the TP has removed any incentive I had to craft a Legendary. They’re pointless now, because they can just be bought with gold (or real money!).

Now when I see a person with a Legendary, I don’t know if they actually earned it, or just bought it. So, to me, having a Legendary is a waste of time and money. There’s no proof that “I earned this” at all.

Such a waste. I feel bad for the people who actually worked their butts off so they could have a prestigious Legendary. Their accomplishment has been cheapened.

1. Who cares whether they earned it or bought it? Does it change your game in the slightest? Does it matter if they bought all the parts they could buy? Is buying the precursor cheapening the accomplishment too? How is any of that any different from just buying the whole thing?

I’d like to know exactly how much of a legendary can be bought in your eyes before the player officially doesn’t deserve to have it.

2. YOU will know. The only thing that matters is that you are happy with whatever method you employed to get what you wanted. Don’t worry too much about what other people do or think and you will be less likely to freak out about things like this.

Personally, I would be more impressed with someone who had 9500 gold than someone who did what tons of other people have done. Seems like anyone can farm enough to make a legendary eventually. I can’t imagine how much effort I would have to put into this game to get 9500 gold……or how hard I’d have to work in life to have enough money to buy that much gold for a digital weapon without feeling embarrassed about it.
