I really don’t understand posts like these. Not trying to be rude or offensive, but it seems that the game doesn’t get much easier (in PvE) than playing tempest. You have tempest right? (Assuming you do cause you said warhorn was ok).
You got one of the strongest, hardest hitting spells in the game (which is also an AoE) on a 5-6 second recharge, plus you can move around while doing it. I’m talking about Overload air spam of course. It might not be the most fun build, but certainly one of the most effective. You got a strong heal, plus a moderate-to-strong heal in overload air, plus arcane shield if you are really having problems getting hit, and eye of the storm shout to make things easier.
So your argument is it’s ok that it’s a bad skill because TEMPEST can overload air? What about those lvling an ele who can’t use tempest, or game modes where you would die before you could get air ol off? Having an ability in an elite specialization is not justification for a weapon skill to be bad
New expansion… only thing that matters is what happens to my ele! Dps spec sure, another support spec hell no!
A balance patch would be nice since things already on hold… just sayin

For example if after new expansion I WON’T BE FORCED to play healbot to compete in ranked gold+ I am coming back to play pvp ele.

I solo queued plat on a necromancer without even using soul reaping. You don’t need a duo to get out of silver.
OP would do well to post some gameplay vids so we can tell him how to improve. But I’m betting that the OP is more interesting in getting his salt vindicated than to actually improve.

Still be a viable support tool but glass staff ele would have more options than camping fire. And fits the classic aoe mage fantasy

You speculate when you arrive at a number like “50” percent just as people do when they claim 90 percent roamers are thives are “all roamers are condition builds.”
One reason for there seeming to be those chosen builds as far as gear goes is because many will get their builds off metabattle rather then relying on developing their own builds.
I have 5 different thieves as example , all geared differently and all playing differently and all being more then just a little viable in WvW. Were it not for that wide open nature, I would find no need to do this and I woul dbe more then a little bored with the game.
I also play a wide variety of other classes with some 20 odd toons in total and all of them are specced with different gear depending on what I see as their function. WvW allows for this because there diverse roles. Certainly there are sets that the majority would use, but this in great part is shaped by the role a given profession is to play. As exmple if I am going to primarily use my warrior to roam with the zerg, I am going to gear and trait him up differently then if he is going to roam solo.
Added to that while certain runes , sigils and gear types can suit any class, there are a number that a class would never use. A profession with no or little access to interrupts will not gear up with on interrupt sigils. A profession with no access to Burn is not slapping on runes that add to burning duration. Logic dictates that if RUNE X can be used by any class for any Role moreso then a Rune Y , then there will be more of Rune X for that reason and not necessarily because it OP.
There are few gear sets, runes or sigils that I consider as being OP. Those few that did exist such as old perplexity runes were fixed. None of them in my opinion warrant removal and the day they start removing gear in order to mollify the PvP types is the day WvW as I know it and like it for dies.
As to those that deem any build that they do not approve of or that they have just lost to as “cancer” they are a pompous lot overly full of themselves. They have this need to set themselves as seperate from and above everyone else. They want to be defined as “skilled Players” so that every time they are bested, it not due to skill but due to a "cancer build’. There are certainly skills or traits that might need tweaking as they do too much, but this exists across the spectrum of gameplay in each profession and build type and little of it is gear related.
I never said that was a fact what i writed, i made it clear it was my opinion…also, i believe your build should be your weapon set+traits, shouldnt have all this focus on gear and stuff. I trully believe that if in WvW we had a more standart stats, it would be way more easier to balance this game mode, there are really good reasons why a few Amulets, runes and sigils got removed from sPvP.
I cant see how this would harm the game mode in anyway, I believe just like sPvP, this game mode must be completely separed from PvE…when we achieve that, and only when we do that, we can start thinking about trully balancing WvW.
You make it sound like pvp is actually good in gw2. Plz notice the population of pvp and it’s only getting worse. As for balance… it isn’t any better in pvp, as an ele I find it much worse since healbot is the only option. No I would rather have options in wvw to help counter some of the bad balancing the game already gets
Getting overly frustrated won’t help either. Take a break and when you’re calm try again. If you still dislike pvp don’t play it. There are plenty of other things to do in the game. Find your pvp kicks in another game

I didn’t deny there are weak skills or that there weren’t place holder traits. Look at written in stone, we haven’t had a signet build since fire’s embrace was removed and blinding ashes nerfed. Every class has some weak skills and place holder traits which is why I didn’t mention it. If you look at raids ele damage as a whole is “on par” while not taking into account that it’s against mostly stationary large hitbox ai or risk vs reward. I don’t see them really changing that as if it’s huge and stationary ele is good

While I don’t think ele isn’t balanced for 2017, how it’s balanced is definitely off. Rather than reigning in Tempest core ele gets continuous nerfs. Take the latest nerf to elemental shielding rather than hardy conduit. Core ele has much less access to auras than tempest, and this is after we’ve already had all aura duration nerfed. Each time tempest causes an issue core ele gets nerfed if at all possible. It’s especially noticeable in pvp where it’s forced to be a healbot.
Look to the future with hope though. If the leaks are true we will get a sword dps spec in the next expansion (I don’t think that many would pay for yet another support spec we didn’t ask for). If it is true those same traits will have to be addressed. As a dps spec it will either A. One shot damage potential B. Loaded with its own defenses C. Our defense nerfs reverted. If not why would anyone play a dps spec that can’t survive long enough to do its job, rather than roll tempest that at least conteibutes
Hot was meant to be grindy to make people play it longer. The mastery system is just part of the grind. Lots of people disliked HOT especially the power creep that came with it. It isn’t going to change. The only options you have are to help them lvl, play in a different area, other mode, or a different game altogether.

A couple of suggestions
The dishonor should be removed from matchmaking. Currently yes it’s a penalty to that player but also to the quality of everyone in the match. Increase the lockout for dishonor but never let it affect matchmaking.
The -100 to double professions should be removed or altered. There are a couple of options here. Either remove it completely or only have it affect those with the same build. Ex. A glass staff ele doesn’t contribute in the same way as a healbot tempest. In this example the penalty shouldnt apply at all. There are those who avoid the healbot for as long as possible before changing to be able to advance, but that’s balancing errors.
right now if you have a dc, the best thing to do is just stay logged off until the game finishes to save your team’s rating. I have had 2 dc since the start of season 6 and I did this both times. If everyone did this (which they should) then the timer would not be a problem. Unfortunately though, people come back after a dc for some reason which is why the current system needs to change.
The problem with this is not coming back is "abandonment " which is 10 stacks of dishonor. The lockout isn’t really the issue, matchmaking takes dishonor into consideration. Perfect match is “0” dishonor “-100” stacks “-50” each stack lasts 4 hours
Why run a core build when you could run the specialization that’s a flat upgrade? It’s not that people don’t care about core build, just it doesn’t do any good. Rather than bring elite specializations in line, core traits/skills get nerfed to lower the specialization while maintaining it’s superiority to core
If we are Lucky Anet will do the same for the new ones.

Engi, Rev and Mesmer are making me curious and Ele really need a real Melee weapon, not like that dagger posing as a melee with its 600 range.
As long as it’s a full damage spec for ele (rip healbot) I’m game. Though they will have to look at some of the balance changes they’ve done to core ele, rather than reigning tempest in, to make a melee weapon work for ele
Why does the damage from lava font not start till well after the animation. This has always annoyed me greatly. Would it be too much to ask that the first tick begin with the animation

If you’re in the core game then… it’s visually nice, combat is engaging, nice dodge system, no holy trinity (thank goodness), characters are complete including their own ways to sustain themselves (even if it has been nerfed for thanks to raids), basically you can run around play the game at your own pace.
Once you get to HOT it isn’t as solo friendly, you unlock new specializations (the reason for more core nerfs) which are flat upgrades to core professions,
then there’s pvp that you can do at any time (don’t recommend)
WvW is fun if you like running in a large zerg
You can try raids if you can get past the elitists (the only way to get legendary armor)
You can work on crafting other legendaries if you enjoy that
Lots of things to do just depends on what you enjoy
Greatsword is like reaper shroud but worse. 5/5 staff skills build life force, 4/5 are unblockable, and skills #3-5 can do some serious pressure. It’s the swiss army knife of necro builds.
Except greatsword LF generation scales with the number of targets struck. Landing GS#3 on just two targets will net you more LF than landing all 5 of the staff skills put together.
Also Staff has no pressure on a power build, you forget that transfers scale off the necro’s condi damage, so on a power build putrid mark is pretty pathetic in terms of damage.
He/she isn’t running a pure power build though. Ammy is power, vitality, condi. He/she is going for a hybrid build
I can see what op is saying though. The cast times PLUS delay on some skills are annoying. Usable but could use some qol improvement

As a side note, if you get pulled/pushed into a wall, go to the character selection screen and log back in on same character immediately, ignoring the dishonor warning (under 2 minutes is ok).

For pve? The mobs will hit a little harder just need to learn their attacks. There is certain content you won’t be able to solo, not sure how much since they made it easier than it was at release. You’ll need to grind mastery points and hero points to advance your character. Maps are large meta events if you like those
You don’t really need to do anything before jumping into heart of thorns.
Do you get dishonour if you cancel the Q before ready match appears?

If you leave the que before it pops no, but if it does and you decline then yes. I believe that is how it works

That’s from the link Evan posted. Actually I mistook all the 0s from a gm ban it’s actually more than I put. You can see it in the code but you have to scroll down to the breakdown of dishonor for the duration, stacks

Cons balance changes are more to “shake up the meta” than actual balance. Build variety has been butchered, used traits get over nerfed while unused traits get left useless, etc.

I’ve read that.
Several times now I’ve asked this question: The pseudo code, as written, implies that “dishonor” can be added to an account to give it worse matches. It also states that dishonor lasts much longer than the dishonor timeout most players think of. (How long?)
In addition, players using an alt to manipulate matches were recently given “dishonor stacks.” All this implies that ANET can and does punish accounts by giving them dishonor.
Is this the case? if so, who can do this? In game GMs? A person told me, in-game, that they were considering changing my rating. Of course, I have no idea whether they actually could.
More broadly though, I think that ANET has simply miscalculated. Match quality needs more priority over speed and strict limits on player rating differences need to happen.
Each dishonor lasts 4 hours with a timeout of 30s. It is taken into consideration in the matchmaking. Dishoner distance “-100” stacks “-50”
10 stacks for abandon, 3 for que dodge, 1000 if gm bans

Dps is close but more often smaller than the rest, while the Elementalist will still play on the “piano” polka, the necromancer languidly pressing a pair of buttons will cause more damage O_o it is a fact
I play elementalist ele-out of habit, in DPS I overtake only the lazy and noviceGear up an condi engie and try his rotation.
That is a “piano” rotation, and now tell me If It doesn’t deserve better dps numbers of ele.
You have to Press more skills, remember more cooldowns and It is all more Dynamic and fast than every ele rotation but still a good engie can’t outdps a good ele in big hitboxesIf you’re going to compare ele to engi don’t forget to factor in their extra health, armor, stealth, reveal, stability, etc. Sure their rotation is also complex but they aren’t near as squishy. So does engi deserve more dps than ele no.
Omfg….. What they have more is only hp and armor… If you talk about fractals and raid have stab, stealth or REVEAL (lol) is totaly useless.
Instead ele can have blocks, a Blink, AoE blinds, passive AOE stunbreack, good AoE heals, the best AoE damage in game etc etc etc…BUT THE POINT isn’t Who have this or Who have that….
