I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for a long time. I’ve mostly only ever PvP’d. I want to craft my own legendary, but I just can’t bring myself to do world completion. I’m not complaining, by any stretch! I know its due to me being lazy. I love Guild Wars 2 and the new expansion has me real excited.
Anyone have some success stories for a big time procrastinator like me?
Mail me, or message me in game.
Looking for something late night, EST. Nothing too serious, just a group of guys to play with. Please know the game and your class though..
Thanks!!
………………. no juice
I thought the combination of solo que and team que would encourage more people to play as a team like it did back before the solo que system.
However that habit anet instilled on people to ‘its ok to play by yourself’ is really strong.
Anet needs to make incentives to play with others and not by yourself.
Maybe more reward track points for playing with others. Maybe PvP type karma and if you play with others you get more. (Glory). I’ll think of more ideas later, but its really the GW2 developers that should be the ones thinking. They don’t pay you developers to just do stuff, they really pay you for your creative thinking, and if your not creatively thinking and figuring out stuff, than they should question your abilities.
In this day and age, anyone can be taught how to program, but not all have creative thinking skills.
Also, to you guys that are pro ‘play by yourself’ people. Your more likely to quit the game easier if you just play by yourself rather than having a community your in, a group of people you play with and etc. It’s better to promote community play together as parties rather than play by yourself.
Do I think they should force you to make teams? Nope, I do like playing solo every now and then but it shouldn’t really be all the time. Developers needs to focus on getting that 95% solo, 5% team to something more like 60% teams are queing and 40% solo people are queing.
Tell me a single reason to play with a team aside farming soloers
Aside from the obvious?
I think its better than it has been in a while. At least, you can see some changes to PvP, where as for a while, we weren’t seeing anything happening.
Could it be better? Yeah, they need to figure out how to fix some builds without destroying them. At this point, I think crippling some of the obvious imba builds from the game while they figure out how to balance them is better than what we have right now. I’m not saying remove the builds completely, I’m saying make them useless while we figure this crap out. I feel like this is the lamest meta we’ve ever had.
All in all, I’m happy with the attention to PvP right now. Everyone has the same complaints, so its not like they’re not getting to ANET. They don’t want to have a crappy meta. Give it time. In the interim, we have to deal with these cheese builds.
I’ve always loved pistol. If I’m going pure condi, I will always use pistol, its just a no brainer.
But, I recently have been really enjoying celes rifle. Great for finishing.

I would advise playing an Engineer. They are by no means unkillable.
I don’t think anyone is going to tell you how to beat one since its a pretty complicated question with no videos of your play in front of us. Play an engineer, understand its weaknesses and go from there.
There are very few builds (if any) in this game that do well in all situations against all classes and all builds.
100% absolutely not. This is the type of game where you can be end game within a few days if you want to be. I wouldn’t recommend it though. I’ve made the mistake of rushing toward the end. This game seems to be more about the journey than where you end up.
But, even when you get to the end you will find a ton of stuff to work toward.
Honestly though? I hop around MMOS quite often and GW2 is probably one of the most active.
Thanks!! All fixed.

I’m sorry to be a pain, its just I’ve been waiting for 3 days for a fairly simple thing to be done.
I was hoping you’d have an easier way to remove these mobile auths than having to go through this extremely time consuming process for something so simple.
It’s not fairly simple. They have to prove it’s you, plus all the other tickets in front of you have to be handled as well. And if it were easier to remove, it would be easier for people’s accounts to be hacked.
Look, all I’m saying is I’ve had auth on accounts from other MMOS in the past that didn’t require you sit in queue for over 3 days to get it removed. You should be able to input the CDKEY and a few other things that they’re going to cross reference to verify my account is mine and it be an easier process, like some other MMOs.
I know I’m sounding a bit like a kitten, but its frustrating is all. In my mind, its a fairly simple thing in regards to what these people are likely be contacted about on a regular basis with account issues. I didn’t get hacked, no one else has ever used my account, I answered every single security question. You would think it would be a quick glance.
I know I’m sounding like an entitled little brat. But, to wait over 3 days for what I would imagine is a fairly common thing to happen with accounts is kind of annoying.
Judging by the amount of posts in the last 24 hours, it doesn’t seem like they’re relatively backed up.

Just removing a mobile auth from an old device that I no longer have. I’ve submitted all the necessary information, but have not gotten any response. Please help.
Thanks for the advice!
I submitted my request.

I’ve just completed a move. I got rid of my cellphone that had the mobile auth on it a few months ago. I completely forgot that my account even had one on it since I selected to remember my location.
I now can not access my account from my new home. Luckily, it knows my work location so I’m okay here to post on the forums. Otherwise, I would be completely screwed.
I’ve been waiting a while for just a response. Please help.

Dying? Man. You should play some other MMOS if you want to see dying..
I’m not trying to defend ANETS lack of progress. But, this game is very far from dying. It could probably afford to loose some more players to smack ANET into gear.
I’ve just finished a new build yesterday night. I was eager to test my FPS on the highest settings of GW2. Where as by no means is it poor, I have noticed that it isn’t quite what I expected.
R9 280x
intel i5 4690k
8 gigs
I would suspect looking at min reqs of this game that these specs would be far beyond what it would require to run this game maxed out with good fps.
In Lions Arch on highest settings I get about 40-60 fps. Is that normal for a machine like this? I don’t know why, but I was expecting 60+ at all times on GW2.
Any info or comments in regard to this would be appreciated. THANKS!
Oh gee! Another duel thread!
By people, he means him and his friends lol..
Why have they not fixed the ladder system?
I think the messages we receive from anet are just black box recordings that are on a loop from pvp crash. For example “soon, soon, soon…. we are working on it, we are working on it, we are working on it… meetings, meetings meetings…”
Its like the response the cellphone companies gives you when you tell them you have a crappy signal.
I think we should have some new game modes. But, I think they should improve on conquest.
Make some new maps. I’d be happy with just about any addition to the PvP modes right now, even if its a bad one. Give us something other than the Devs talking on the forums.
Nope, not on autopilot. Nope, not designed by one designer. I Promise features are coming eventually. I want them finished and as badly as you do!
Not to be a jerk or anything. But, what exactly is taking so long to fix the simple issues?
I can understand taking a long time to develop new map pools, game modes, even balance changes. But, what about the easy things like communication (another player mentioned radio commands), removal of Skyhammer, fixing the SoloQ leaderboards.
You seem like a reasonable person. What would you think??
I think it simply comes down to lack of support.
Where do you see the Guild Wars 2 in relation to eSport two years from now?
In the forums, complaining about skyhammer lol

I think if you’re a competent pvp’er you can accurately gauge the following:
-Were your rotations good?
-Were your mechanics good?
-Did you capitalize on enemy deficits?
-Did you win the 1v1’s you should have won?
-Did you adequately support your team?
-At any point, were you the reason the enemy took an advantage?I typically ask myself questions like that for self evaluation. Of course I go more specific, especially against stronger players. It comes not only down to what did I do well, but what did I do to thwart the other good players on the other team?
This is solid.
Which cities will allow same-sex marriages?
There are some classes I think it’s entirely possible for some classes to carry on. But there a few I think it’s absolutely impossible to do.
Yup. You def need some mobility, thats for sure.
I think soloqueue is the new hotjoin. Why not right? Solo ladder is completely broken and useless.
(edited by Khang.6743)
Jeeeeeez, just drop the eSport crap already.
This game barely had a prayer when it was fresh on the market. Even the king of MMOs barely had a place in the eSport scene. MMORPG’s are just not eSport games right now. You have to almost design a game around the idea of being eSport friendly. It just can’t work without Developer aid. They’ve already made it clear where they stand with PvP in this game.
The best thing we can do as a community is drop this eSport BS. Lets make the game fun and enjoyable for this small following of PvPers we have left. Even if we do that, we still have to hope that Devs care enough about PvP to make the changes.
(edited by Khang.6743)
Check out ‘State Of The Game’, the Starcraft 2 series. I always enjoyed that show the most. They always covered upcoming patches, changes, meta, tournys, players, whatever..
Just give it up already..
Honestly, most games that are considered an eSport are much more complex.
There is hardly any money to be made for the games that have been eSports for over a decade. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t stand a chance as an eSport. Its best to just secure its foundations with the small community of PvPers it has left.
Lets be real here, no chance. Its best we give up the illusion that there is a possibility. SC2 is taking an enormous hit in viewers and 4 years ago it was king kitten on kitten island for eSports.
Give up the eSport ambition and lets try and focus on making the game fun and balanced for the playerbase we have now.
It all comes down to viewers. We don’t have any. Even the games which are barely on the blip of eSports get nearly 10-20x more viewers from a single person than GW2 gets from all its streams.
If the sponsors can’t put their tag on something people will see, they don’t want to have anything to do with it. This miraculous turn around isn’t going to happen. I just wish people would get off the eSport kick already..
Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros have a better chance at getting picked up than Guild Wars 2 does.
(edited by Khang.6743)
I know, how hard could it possibly be to take the map out of the kitten pool. They could make a lot of people happy with such a small amount of effort. Its kind of odd why they wouldn’t do it..
Most people agree that TLC toward the PvP community would be welcomed with open arms right now. But, I’m curious to know your thoughts on how we can improve the substance of matches. Balance issues seem to plague a lot of team/solo queue, whether it be with quality of teams or issues with class integration.
Instead of ranting and raving about everything they’re doing wrong. I’d rather hear some intelligent ways to fix the games balance. We’re faced with an ordinary game in terms of balance, since we’re not playing with the trinity. However, I still think there are ways to tailor classes to specific roles (as we already do).
I understand there are some builds/classes that are perfectly suited to countering other builds/classes. Do you think that it may be too severe of a counter? I’m okay with some classes being better equipped to deal with another. However, do you think that gap between player skill and class counters are a bit too deep? We all know there are times when you can beat a class that counters you, but how much better do you need to be to accomplish that?
With the lack of the traditional trinity (tank, healer, dps) , how much more difficult is this game to balance? Whats the best way to do it?
^ continues to ignore the point.
There’s plenty to qq about with gw2 pvp. Supporting pvp events is not one of them.
Hes actually completely on point. Even if it is with sarcasm he responded to the thread. To be honest with you, you really are the one who ignored the point.
I’m assuming the developers and marketing all pull from the same pot of money.
Different departments in a company usually have seperate allocated budgets.
Ok, so I guess we are to presume that the money and time being invested in Gamescon event is being invested regularly in the eSports department.
I’d personally find that even more disconcerting.
The tournament isn’t a bad thing. I’m just curious as to why right now? I understand that developmental and marketing would be two completely different departments. None the less, resources are being expended to showcase Guild Wars 2 at Gamescon, when they could be spent in more pressing aspects of the game.

This.
But really it’s at the twitch booth Anet does not really have to do much. Twitch will do the setup of the computers. With gw2 having no local support the players just log into eu servers. So doubt it’s much work and at gamescon the less work and more drink you can do the better. That’s the vibe at gamescon it’s pretty party mode. Community just has to hope Anet gets inspired by the games on the real stages and not booths. Anything at a booth is side show.
Even still, the planning and staffing of the event is probably a larger expenditure than what we see on a monthly basis, I imagine.
I’m going to slow it down and say hopefully that is the case. I feel that I’m being a bit too critical right now.

How many people here have actually followed the eSports scene? I’m not speaking of Guild Wars 2, because in the scope of things, it hardly qualifies. All of our pro players have to hold jobs in order to support themselves. When taking into considering that LoL, DOTA, SC2, even some CS pros can sustain themselves off their game, I would hardly say GW2 has a pro scene at all.
We can all talk until we’re blue in the face as to why GW2 doesn’t measure up in the eSports community. But, when it comes down to it, it all centers around one general idea (lack of care, lack of development). GW2 developers have made no secret that PvP isn’t a priority. However, I almost have to ask as to why the Gamescon LAN all of a sudden? Why fly out players from around the world to compete on a stage that won’t attract much attention outside of our small PvP community? Why devote resources to that when there is so much in the PvP scene that requires attention? I’m a bit thrown off by it all.
I’d venture to say, that the players involved in this tournament would agree that resources should be devoted to improving the PvP. The foundation is set, but its hardly a product worthy of being displayed along side seasoned eSport communities. Its almost counter-productive completely. Not only will there be an extremely small amount of people in our community who are interested, but it will reflect poorly on potential new players looking from the outside in (thats just one of the problems).
I don’t think we’re going to be breaking out into the eSports scene. Lets make what we have better rather than staging a game that isn’t in very good shape for competition.
They could be finding ways to make more viable team comps, new game modes, new maps, better matchmaking, better ladder systems. The game has a ton of potential still for a small cult following of dedicated players. We won’t be topping the charts on twitch.tv anytime soon, even if we got picked up by major lans.
Why devote time and resources to a LAN right now? The resources could be better spent and more universally appreciated if it were devoted toward improvements in the game in itself.
I also thinks its worth noting that I understand they want to show appreciation to the players who’ve been dedicated to the scene. But, I think there are other ways to accomplish that than investing time and resources in a tournament that will do very little for the PvP scene as a whole.
I know I’m ranting here, but I’m curious as to other peoples thoughts.
Thanks!!

Out of 3-5 games I play every day, I get at least 2 that are that unbalanced when I queue during prime time.
I believe that. There are a lot of things about this game that could be made better. But, that isn’t to say SoloQ is only about luck. All I’m saying..
Two teams… one team consists of 4 baddies and one pro, the other of 5 pros… and you really think that one pro can carry those 4 baddies to victory against 5 pros?
Different scenario… 5 egoists on one team, 3 team-oriented players on the other with only 2 egoists that they have to balance out. Wanna bet not a single of those 5 egoists is going to “carry” his team to victory?
I dont know what kind of solo arena games you are getting, but usually, mine are so unbalanced in terms of skills (and I include map awareness, teamplay etc there as well, not just how well someone plays a certain build) that even if I play the perfect game, I simply can not carry the whole team. Because on the other team there are at least 2-3 equally skilled players, PLAYING TOGETHER and simply outplaying me.
For example… a few days ago I got a solo arena game where my team went against 3 thieves (+ 1 mesmer and 1 guardian)… those three thieves were so bad, it was hilarious. One was just spamming hs – so clichee – the other clearly didnt know what his skills did, he was using s/d and jumping all over the place often getting himself stuck somewhere or evading off the clocktower… but the third one… that one was the best… he was running idk what build, but he was only using sb2 and 4. No kidding, only sb2+4.
Those thieves, they didnt even run together most of the time… and still, my teammates managed to DIE to them 1on1. Or they would go against one thief 2v1 / 3v1, and still take forever to kill them… off point most of the time too -.-
I cant go save everyone there, I cant even keep more than one point capped at a time in such a situation.
We lost, not by < landslide, but still lost by about 70 points. I managed to keep the score that close. But there was simply NO WAY to win. I even switched to mesmer with portal to decap/cap two points, but it was essentially a 1v3, where the other team won just because they had 2 more people capping. Now explain to me, how one is supposed to “carry” the whole team there? And believe me, I tried everything there.
Btw, that game went on during prime time NA on NA servers. Gonna be the last time in a long time I play solo que during prime time, in my experience, my “luck” with teammates isnt quite as bad outside prime time, even though my queue takes more than 5 minutes there… but those 5-10 minutes, I wait gladly.
With all due respect, if the only games you play are at those extremes, theres likely something else going on there. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve played those games, we all have. But, by no means are they the majority of the games I play. Its a mixed bag.
The idea is simple. Everyone is dealing with the same skill variance, no one is more lucky or less lucky than you. That isn’t to say people with a smaller sample of games have a higher rank based on a flawed ladder system. But, I do believe that the people with 60%+ win ratio with hundreds of games played are helping carry some of their teams through that bad match ups.
The only issue I have with solo queue right now is the leavers. The luck aspect is only slightly different than what a lot of MOBA games face in their solo queues. The bigger issue is the number of active pvpers on the ladder to begin with. Not only that, but they need to find a way to punish players from leaving games.
Guild Wars 2 has a lot of potential when it comes to PvP. Unfortunately, a lot of people have given up hope that updates will come in a time quick enough to make a difference. But, its free to play, so we can play this game whenever we want without having to look at a sub.
Solo queue isn’t 100% luck. Although, there is a big portion of luck that comes in playing with random people. But, just like in MOBA games, if the player is good enough, they can carry their team. It may not always result in a win, but you’ll win more than you lose.
What do suggest Anet do? They already implemented a pretty decent punishment 3 day ban from tourney’s if you dc or leave from a match 3x in a day. Some players are complaining that’s to harsh.
I honestly don’t know what they can do. Since its an issue in just about every game that has a ranked ladder.
I think most people just need to understand (myself included) that its the nature of the beast.

Will roam or play where/how you need me.

Thanks much. I appreciate it.
Sounds good, I’m kind of looking for something like this.
Any help or link to this build would be greatly appreciated.
I only ever play my Engi for PvP, but I’m looking to get into some PVE and I’m curious.
What are some basic rotations for whichever build is the meta?
Thanks much
Its already here, my friend! It may not be the traditional dueling system that we see in other MMOs. But, there is still a community of people who do nothing but duel. I have a friend who plays the game, specifically for dueling.
There are great custom servers for it. They’re simple to find, just find the ones labeled ‘1v1’ and you’re in business.
Good luck!!!
I’d go play Wildstar if you want that stuff..
