i am severely traumatized. to compensate please send me a playable skritt character and make Taimi and Braham a couple I am sure someone as smart and adventurous as Taimi can figure out the logistics of this with ease lol .

Right but this event in particular makes it so that it’s good to screw over everyone else. Let everyone else complete the events I’m getting credit for, I’m just going to tag and run.
There’s no downside to it here.
Most of the mechanics in this game have been geared toward being cooperative. We can all rez each other. We dont’ have to worry about someone stealing our node, or our kill.
The problems always tend to creep up when the fast way isn’t the same way as the “intended” way. For example in the old ember farm in Orr where some people wanted to do the event and others wanted to intentionally fail it. You fix that problem by making it so that succeeding is more rewarding than failing. Then everyone is on the same page, and no one can complain. That is even the people who want to do the quick easy thing are still wanting the event finished.
In this case events need to be finished, but you don’t have to be around waiting for that to happen…and more…if you want to get max rewards you pretty much have to tag and run.
That’s just bad design, not just in and of itself. It goes against the design direction of the PvE game as a whole.
While I agree the meta-event is basically nothing more than a cheap re-skin of the Scarlet Invasion debacle, my point is that in many ways it doesn’t matter. When you have a good half of the player base hell-bent on breaking ANYTHING you put in front of them in their desire for the most personal rewards, anything you put out is going to look broken.
You’ve got so many players who simply refuse to admit that what we have now with this event is a direct response to past player behaviors.
No drops off mobs? Yeah, you can thank the Aetherblade Captain exploiters for that.
Hundreds of events to keep players active and on the move to get any rewards at all? Thank the AFKers during the Battle for Lion’s Arch.
No EXP or karma or anything for completing events? Gosh, that kinda sounds like a direct attempt to counter those people who power-leveled via the Queensdale champion train. Oh wait… IT IS in direct response to that behavior!
We’re the problem. And the first step to fixing the problem is admitting it.
(Granted with all that said, the answer isn’t a meta-event that is fundamentally broken to begin with like this mess is.)
It doesn’t justify Anet’s bad behavior by seriously gimping stuff. Power leveling isn’t wrong and isn’t something that needs “fixing” whereas low level mobs not giving EXP does. Only reason to use a low level character in this event is to save copper on waypoint costs.

Sorry, I must disagree with you, and agree with Vayne. He spelled it out very clearly. The players who did these things ARE what taught Anet to make this event. And those who didn’t do it, and whined about those who did… are also part of it. There is nothing wrong with power leveling, but the toxic map chat and nastiness to new players who didn’t know about the train? Don’t tell me that wasn’t there. People found something hard to fight and fought it… they didn’t know they were derailing the train. (Some people did it on purpose, I know.) When it happened, map chat was toxic. What a nice way to welcome people into the game.
Hopefully, Anet will see that we don’t want an unrewarding grind. There has certainly been enough feedback about it. Personally, I still rez, don’t get max rewards and will not change that. And I still have faith in Guild Wars 2 and the Anet staff.
Scribe is right. I had time to get both potions. I don’t have a problem with the gold on THEM… except that this is aimed at level 18+. The Scarlet event was aimed at 80 players. The limited time means relentless grind… not a casual stroll every day to get your 30. And by relentless, I mean there is no time for sleep if you want both.
tagging an enemy and immediately waypointing to the next battle.

You think people don’t see the maps that do this? Its seen. People don’t like it, unless they are the ones doing it. Why do you think there is so much irritation from it?
NA Server in Canada. My ping was over 3000!!! Was getting an average of 1400+. Meant i could explore things in instances that i had never seen before but couldn’t actually PLAY. Guess today is a write off
What part did you get stuck at? Was it when the giants were throwing stuff at the airship? If yes, did you reflect what they were throwing back at them?
BUT who’s to say that when you waypoint, you aren’t missing that ONE critter that is holding your precursor that you would have killed on your way to where ever you’re going? (cannot resist)
I logged in on my levl 41 toon. Not affected. Logged in on my lvl 80 toon, and it is affected by the bug. It seems the bug affects toons at lvl 80. Thats my thoughts on it.
it only broke things for the first toon you loged on with, everyone else is fine. But yeah, it’s annoying.
I am very glad that only your first is broken but you might not want to mislead people with that. There are many, including myself, who’s first wasn’t but others were. I found most of my older characters are broken, but newer ones aren’t. But even that rule of thumb isn’t accurate. Seems pretty random.
It does have odd jumps and isn’t very user friendly. This is my and my bf’s fave puzzle (one of really) so after your post we had to go in and see how broken. Then had to do a work around. But for a new person, this would be horrible
There is a way around it. For the first bit, jump across lightning platforms. The last jump, jump DOWN to the bit way down. From there, jump to the branch. Kinda scary but very possible. Go normally to get your attunement. Then suicide jump once through the portal. Go back to stormy, then go to the right hand side. Line up carefully and jump down to the branch just before the arrow platforms. You can get to the second portal from there, without jumpshot or anything else. Tested by an engi (cos i could) and a mesmer who said i cheated and then i had to go back and do it again. Give it a go. RoseofGilead, see if that makes sense?
Hey everyone. I didn’t get an invite either, though my boyfriend did. Yeah, it kinda sucks that I don’t get to play, but guess what? I am happy he does. It isn’t based on how much you play… or anything other than luck of the draw!! Be happy for those who get the chance… at least we will get to see some pretty cool previews from them. So to all of you who are the lucky ones… Congrats. Have some fun and if you see my man… push him off the cliff or something so he can GLIDE!!!
Very impressed to see this. Would only add one small change. Have the crests and geodes and other currencies be deposited directly into the wallet so that it doesn’t take bank space.

How horrible. I have done the same, though not with something as expensive, under the very same circumstances, and it is a horrible sinking feeling. Fortunately for me, the people (I am a slow learner and did it more than once) returned the things to me, and we had a laugh. I am sincerely sorry that your VERY expensive gift was hijacked, and hope that the person who kept it returns it.
I would also love the limit to be raised. I am currently at 47 but have plans for at least twenty more. They are all different, different armour and looks, different builds, different play styles. Having a second account has occurred to me. In fact, I almost did it. Then realized… all my skins… the gem store ones and the ones I have found and bought, would not be there. I could get enough gold to buy the crossing again, and all the other wonderful things in my wardrobe, but what about the ones you CAN’T get again. The things from the beginning of the game. Mad Memoirs and the first Karka event. Starting all over from NOTHING would be painful. Very very painful. Gathering all the dungeon tokens again when I already have them. I would love more character slots…
We are trying to do story of HOTW and have gotten to Gallery of Peace, where you are supposed to face face a champion icebrood goliath. The two goliaths with their dogs are there but the champ is not. Twice we have done this story this morning, neither time was the champ there. I haven’t seen anything about HOTW being broken…
I know that any charr, warrior, guardian, or ranger can get passed the gears and into the jumping puzzle a charr with the 4 ability on the charrzooka skill can jump you across, warriors have a skill on their sword I believe is called “sword-thrust” Guardians have the 3 skill on their great-swords and rangers have an ability using a sword (though it causes you to jump back first and then leaps you for a far greater distance afterward). I believe the ranger has one other move that they can use but I don’t remember.

Last year it took me 12 hours to get to the top. It was hard and frustrating but I was with my friends, and made new friends. I have spent the whole year excited that the tower would come back… only to find out that I can’t play with my friends. I am alone with strangers…. most of who won’t talk. I am not wearing my normal clothes… I don’t even look like me. I can’t show my friends where to go, I have to try and talk them through it. Why can’t this be done like a dungeon instance. Still limited to 5. But you can take your friends. And if you don’t have five… you can do lfg. You could do it solo if you don’t want to. I don’t mind huge characters, that was part of the fun. Tixx was the perfect model. I don’t enjoy the pvp model. I play this game to be with my friends, not be with random people the game selects. This doesn’t work for people who roleplay either.
I jumped it easily this year, and was so disappointed that I couldn’t get pics with my friends, that I haven’t bothered getting pics. I still have my pics from last year, me and my bf at the top of the tower. We were so looking forward to that this year. I don’t even care that the reward is once per account instead of once per character. I just want to be with friends.
The new hair for Asura are awesome!!! So very happy Anet is adding new hair into the game. HOWEVER. The new (and wonderful) male hair requires you to choose an accessory colour for the top of the hair. If you have black hair, you can’t match the hair to black accessory colour, because there is no accessory colour.
Please, could we use the dyes we collect on our accessory colours? Or even give accessory colours a larger selection, even just the same as hair colors.
I am the type who would change my ribbon colours daily when I can. So a wider selection would be awesome.
Asura are awesome though!!! I love my asura mes… she is the one I am currently working with. I am going to stick her in TA gear, i think (either her or my necro not sure and they can’t both have it lol)
Welcome to the game. best way to level is to do everything on the map. every heart, every waypoint, every vista and every point of interest in the starter area. also do the home city points, vistas and waypoints. follow your story. if you aren’t high enough to go to the next map, go to another starter area. you can get to it through an asura gate into lions arch, and then another asura gate to another city, then to the starter area.
Gems you can trade in game gold for, or you can buy with real money. you don’t NEED gems… but dang they are nice to expand your bank. and they put some tempting stuff in the gem store.
Gear you can pick up from killing things, or you can buy from heart vendors, or armor/weapon vendors. you CAN buy it on the black lion trading post but that tends to get costly.
you might want to look into joining a guild, who can also help you when you have questions.

I have to say this was one of the most interesting threads I have read in a while. My boys LOVE this game. I have strict rules for them and they follow them. My youngest really likes all the math involved and the numbers. He understands it very well. That saying, sometimes he gets frustrated. And I am there for him. My older son just likes to bash everything. He is the kind who will build a glass cannon and not understand why he dies when he is hit. I teach them stuff, as they go, but I don’t tell them how to play. And they are enjoying it. I started playing video games at a very young age and it didn’t kill me. Telling kids nowadays they can’t be on a computer is silly, computers are everywhere. They need them for school. They need to know how to use them, to be comfortable with them.

I worked hard yesterday to get my friend into TC, one of the most popular servers. I managed at about 11 pm, after trying for 12 hours. you have to be patient and try at random hours, when most people are logged off.
Operation Union does have a lot of PvE players. A lot of people who run fractals and don’t mind taking beginners. A lot of people who enjoy doing things together.
