This discussion originates from the fact that ppl complain about loot distribution, this is tied to ascended items, fractal skins, precursors and some other rare drops. So i’m indeed speaking for all the ppl in this discussion.
And if you don’t care about drops, then why post here… RNG doesn’t matter to you

I don’t think the RNG system is the thing to discuss in this situation. I’d think first and foremost should be what do we want from this game. What makes us happy playing this game on the reward side…?
What do we want to aim for, to create the anticipation which is needed to log in for?
Do we want something guaranteed based on the time we spent chasing it, or do we want it through “jackpot-drops” and having that special feeling?
First look should be what players want from this game.
The second step is looking into how to facilitate the players in getting to that desired point.
Ppl want precursors and ascended boxes. The problem with ascended boxes is not so much the low drop rate imo, ppl can endure it. It does however suck a lot when u finally get the ascended box and it’s not the typ u want/need. Same goes for precursors… If u aim for a certain precursor, let’s say dusk, but u drop a 70g one at the same chance it kinda sucks.
The current rng system doesn’t cater to entitlement, which other MMO’s do. Which imo created an expectation. In other MMO’s players that play themost and do the hardest content, hardest boss raids or grind the same hard mobs over and over get what they want. This doesn’t exactly fly in gw2.
Reward tracks would suit the gw2 way more. This can however mean certain markets on the tp would become obsolete, depending on how it’s implemented ofc. If ppl get a guaranteed way of obtaining an item, which is a more efficient way of obtaining the item than the not guaranteed way (RNG way), prices will drop. Prices will drop to a point which the player base deems fair opposed to the time consumed doing the guaranteed way. If the guaranteed way is very very time consuming, prices could even rise further.

I know gs makes no sense in condi build, i was stating that gs is ur go2weapon for zerging, cuz of the cleave, independant of the build.
Though in zerging this build wouldn’t be bad combined with axe+torch. Gonna try me that mb.

Traps are indeed handy for tagging. imho 1 handed sword is more for small scale. Gs is better in zergs especially for tagging with auto targeting off ofc it has 150 range and 1 handed sword is 130 range on cleave. the #1 on 1 handed sword is a liability since it forces ur positioning.

I just wanna put one concern up regarding guild-sizes. There’s lots of casual players in the game that have a place in a guild. The guild can have 300+ members, of which maybe 50 are active daily players.
Scaling based on the total members would mean, the 50 daily actives would need to pay for having 250 less active/inactive players. Something I would like to see avoided.
Otherwise this could end up meaning less active/temporary inactive players would get kicked…

And in relation to paying for the guild, I recall that sometime guild contribution was datamined. A certain % of the players farmed income went to the guild bank. Was this already thought up by you guys in relation to guild halls?

I did it on my ranger this way (had some time left this morning, so I just went in, and did it):
Not quite optimal build
For rangers, take troll unguent, and nature’s bounty and vigorous renewal. Cuz dodges are handy.
As is already said and true, the fight is more about the mechanics than the damage.
What always helped me is to ctrl+T Liadri from the start. Since that way u can use wh #4 while walking. The fire trap was actually me trying to put some added condi on her.
Tips:
- use the same arena for each fight, u will be able to learn the AOE spread. phase 1 is harder than phase 2.
- Kill the rifts as fast as u can.
- Use your dodges wisely.
- At phase 2 remember that the aoe is the same pattern, staying near the middle of the arena saves dodges, since even when crippled u can still walk out of her aoe.
- Use troll uguent whenever it’s up (for health and more important vigor regen).
- Whenever entering use wh #5 for swiftness, then weapon swap (swiftness again), after use elite. These make u walk around faster, saves dodges.
- Keep moving in phase 2 in a circle in the middle.
- As soon as u did the 3 orbs of light and she’s vulnerable, press T and use wh #4 and then #5, then switch sb and walk backwards, shoot a few, then walk to the next safespot, shoot, and rinse repeat.
- Use piercing arrows so u will still hit liadri although she’s behind the visions.
Best 2 tips are, use the same arena, to get familliar with the patterns and stay in a circle around the middle. This way u can walk from safespot to safespot and when crippled u can dodge to it.

I finally did it an hour ago. I did it on my ranger, and finally didn’t get caught on the edge of the aoe attack, which happened quite a few to many times.
Was kinda sad to see my pet hobble behind me crippled and dead the whole time

I had rothgort, dusk, dawn, 2x dreamer and now howl. I sold the previous 5 and threw all the gold back in the forge, in hope of getting a little more gold to fund a legendary. I lost all the gold, so decided to keep the howl to start making a legendary, to finally get rid of that ugly empty spot at login (getting t6 sucks btw when ur broke).

Afaik this was with Tequatl/Wurm before too, megaserver didnt change it.
Yesterday I was in pt with a guild member, we did world bosses. What I didn’t get, is that on 2 occassions (of the 3/4 bosses) we were sent to different maps.
He was a guildie and in my party and we didnt get on the same server, how come? If we used /join in * we would teleport to the other’s server directly….

I don’t know what the exact problem with the megaserver and the guild missions is, but I see the following occur:
The people of our guild (about 50 ppl) that took part in our guild missions were put in different maps. We then had to taxi all ppl to the same map. This was the case with all 3 missions, we started with bounty, then puzzle and then rush.
Some ppl couldn’t join us, in that map instance or failed to join us, and weren’t able to take part in our guild mission. Due to the megaserver the maps fill up faster which means a lot of guildies go into another server, but that server fills up too. So we had guildies walking around in several maps and not being able to join each other.
I’ve heard more guilds that had a lot of problems due to the megaservers and playing guild missions.
An option to fix this:
Enable the guild/squad leader to make a squad and then when the leader wp’s to the desired map the whole squad can go to that map, since the map reserves places for the entire squad, or something like that.
The megaserver is positive for normal play and exploration, but a huge disaster for guild missions. This makes a fun night frustrating for guilds.

Problem
Yesterday we were at the start of the 3rd fractal (Aetherblade fractal) when our pt leader/opener got a dc right after the mines part. The whole pt got kicked and we had to start all over again.
Solution
Add functionality to parties so that when a leader/opener gets kicked, the whole pt doesn’t automatically get kicked too.

I liked it.
Only thing for me was that they should have patched mario the way they did the watchknights/holo fight. I really really enjoyed mario and tried it every time I was on, and it was a complete waste of time most of the time due not enough ppl there, or ppl missing the obvious mechanics and therefore failing their platform and failing for the rest.
Same for the small holos when the 3 holo’s arent killed right after each other.
I just hope they make events in a way, in future ls, that will prevent a small group of ppl failing an event for a larger group. aka the few ruining it for the many.
In other MMO’s I played, this sort of content was for guilds or large alliances. That way we communicated in one channel, which everyone read, there were no afk’ers or leechers or w/e.
Not all ppl seem to read map chat or say. Which was a weak point at mario and is a weak one at holo’s. Especially when these ppl do it for the first time and havent read up on the mechanics.

Weird though, on my server I joined the fight 4 times yesterday and all 4 times it went smoothly. All 3 down and all times we defeated scarlet too after that. And it was 2 times with full 50, once with 21 and once with 34. (numbers were on the knight i was at). So i find the scaling veryyyyy much improved, cuz before the 25% health drop there were many times it failed.
Fight isn’t that hard, just a question of first using no condi skills, and then stacking all the condis u can during burn phase. Using fiery gs and ice bow help a lot. And ofc it helps a lot if players don’t die to the extraction skill continuously.

I’m hijacking the CDI-idea for something I think a lot of players have an opinion about.
As we have all seen, with mario and now with the knights en the holo’s, that a lot of players don’t really know what to do in some events, since this is an MMO we do it with all the players, it’s not something u do solo. This unavoidably means that the “better” players get hold back by the “lesser”, and vice versa. Which is really good, since it raises everyones skillcap.
Although I approve of the philosophy behind these “all-players-involved” events, the players that don’t know mechanics, or don’t read map chat contribute, unintentionally to the failure of the event.
Problems imo that cause a less than good event-experience are:
- The overflow problem, not being able to make good groups on the lesser populated servers/overflows, which coincides imo with the scaling of the events. I’ve been alone on an overflow with the blue knight, trying to kill it. I left after 5 minutes cuz it apparently didnt scale that wel.
- Communication problem, it seems not all ppl read mapchat or saychat, or don’t have it turned on or w/e. This makes it hard to communicate to all the ppl in the vicinity on mechanics etc.
What can be done:
- Overflow problem can be solved by better scaling, risk ofc is that it becomes to easy and ppl will abuse the overflowmechanism.
- About the communication, could it be an option that commanders have an option to talk in your screen? If they say something it pops up in the middle of your screen. This way all ppl can see what the commander say and it would add to the functionality of the commander. Also an important one for the ppl doing the holo fight for the first time.
Cuz i’m getting frustrated at failing these cool events for so many times due to the above. Mario was great! During the first few days, after that my server mostly failed.
Same with the knight/holo.
Anyone have opinions about how this communication could be improved? Especially for EU ppl like me, we also have the extra problem of the multiple languages on overflows, spanish, german, french, english. And some ppl aren’t able to comprehend english that good.
What can be done from playerside and Anetside to give us better tools, to succeed more in these events?
And the commanders might not be the solution, since not all ppl have a tag ( I don’t cuz I’m poor).

I like fotm, however I rarely play it, since a full run takes me too much time, which I don’t have. I’m still at lvl 8 or 9 or so, since I frequently need to quit during the 2nd or w/e fractal.
Proposal Overview
Make fractal progression possible in smaller increments. If I play 4 fractal parts over 4 days, let them count to progression in some sort of way. And make a maximum on lvls u can achieve this way, for example only do this till lvl 10 or 20. Although for the boss mechanics his would mean ppl should be able to only choose a boss fractal.
Goal of Proposal
Make fractals more accessable to ppl with less time.
Proposal Functionality
Up till lvl 10/20, players can do multiple single fractals and lvl up their fotmlvl too.
Players can choose which fractal tier they wanna do, and after completion of a 1,2,3+boss fractal over a certain time, players increase their lvl.
Associated Risks
If implemented wrong, ppl will abuse this mechanic.
Lots of coding to make fractalstages choosable, and give the game memory as to which fractal a player has already done.

I think the introduction of the tormented weapons now is lore-wise very fitting in the blacklion trading company. The weapons are 250 years old and would be covered under piles of dirt and could well be revealed in the ruins of Lions Arch. I think the dolyaks run them out of LA for him

So if i’m correct what u actually want is a prestigious skin based on hard dungeons/instances. Something not all ppl can accomplish. Ask for that then…

I think for 20 dollars u can get lvl 80. U would need approximately 7 crafts at 400 to reach 80 from lvl 15. Maxing 7 crafts will cost about 110g. If u use a crafting booster and craft on thursday (wvw artisan bonus) u can make it cheaper due to the critical crafts.
About full exotic gear, depends on what stats u want, but will prolly be around 30-50g for all the stuff (not taking special skins into account).
So getting to 80 fully geared will cost around 150g = 2400gems = 30$

I don’t really get it, this discussion. U can buy these weapons on the tp, and they’re fairly cheap now.
About the “GW1 players there’s clearly no place for us” cuz they didn’t give u a brand new dungeon (yet) where u can earn this skin, is just unfair. GW1 isn’t GW2, and this discussion is pointless; if they didnt make these weapons ppl are whining, if they make m and put m in the gemstore (logical choice) ppl are whining. ANet has no way of pleasing everyone…
Ppl ask about this weapon, and they make it, it costs about 90g to buy atm. And ppl go on about the fact that it’s rng chested. 800 gems will give u more than 90g atm, so what is the difference between buying it for 800 gems, and converting the 800 gems to gold…

The Ranger isn’t expected to do burst damage. By sustained, we mean that the Ranger should excel at surviving (resilient) through burst while still doing enough damage over time to take the opponent down.
This to me is the essence of the ranger class problem in wvw/dungeons. A ranger is really good at solo roaming, but doesn’t have any real goods to help a team. In teamwork a ranger is far worse at things than other classes. Mix in the pet as a liability sometimes gives us a “bad” name when partying.
spirits and spotter are nice for teams, though we need to spec for it to make it work, which means we loose damage or survivability. Speccing 20 for spotter and 20 for spirits to follow, leaves us with only 30 points left. Those 30 will mean less precision or less toughness…
My only addition would be to make spirits follow a lower trait and move spotter to marksman skirmishing, and increase our abilities for meaningful aoe and boons.

Indeed guesting is a good idea, I usually got some (1 or 2) when farming near the gates of arah with zephyr uncontested. Charged cores drop from champ bags and i got lucky a few times when salvaging salvageable twisted watchwork scrap in the mario event.

Twohanded weapons will gain an extra sigil slot. Which means u can put 1 on your weapon now, and add another when the patch hits. Although I would choose to put the perception on another weapon. I have my bloodlust sigil on an alternate axe. When I have 25 stacks I switch to another weapon or my axe with fire sigil.
