I Don’t exactly want them to nerf any of the classes perse. I don’t trust them at this point with math.

If they change numbers around in a vacuum we are just going to get the last “season:” revisited with different “Meta” teams.

What I want to see is a dev who can take a page from Otacon’s book

Rex’s Weak point-

Otacon: Snake, Rex’s armor is impregnable. You can’t do any damage with the weapons you’ve got. Rex uses the latest advances in compound armor. The only way you can pierce it is with a high-performance HEAT (high-explosive, antitank) round.

Snake: So what do I do?

Otacon: Rex’s pilot seat operates exactly like a VR system. It’s got multiple sensors connected to a high-tech interface used for the controls. It’s completely self-enclosed and shut off from the outside environment.

Snake: He’s not using his naked eyes?

Otacon: That’s right. So if you could somehow destroy the sensors… Do you see that round plate on Rex’s left arm?

Snake: Yeah, that thing that looks like a shield?

Otacon: That’s a radome. If you can destroy that thing, it won’t be able to use its electronic equipment.

Snake: So he’ll be blinded?

Otacon: Yeah. Try to hit that radome with a Stinger missile.

Snake: So will that stop it?

Otacon: No, Rex was designed so it can be controlled manually too.

Snake: Oh, great.

Otacon: The part that looks like a beak is where the pilot seat is. In an emergency it will open up. Rex’s armor is perfect. You can’t destroy it.

Snake: You told me that already.

Otacon: But the interior is a different story.

Snake: I get it… First I destroy the radome. That will force him to open up the pilot’s seat.

Otacon: Right. If you can shoot a missile into the kittenpit, you’ll destroy the computer control system.

Snake: You intentionally designed it with a weak point?

Metal Gear Solid:
Otacon: It’s not a weak point—I like to think of it as more of a character flaw. People and weapons just aren’t complete without a character flaw, don’t you think?

The Twin Snakes:
Otacon: It’s not a weak point—more like a weakness. People and weapons just aren’t very appealing without a weakness of some kind, don’t you think?

TL:DR- Everything should have a weakness. Game design is about the interplay of those strengths and weaknesses. Good interplay is what balance is. Bunkers are meant to be busted.

Thief Changes Idea: Might Access

in Thief

Posted by: Liquicity.3621

Liquicity.3621

I have no problem generating 25 stacks of might on my thief…..

I use Trappers Respite, Deadly Trapper, & Improvisation, in combination with Dragon Hunter Runes, and typically Ambush trap. (but I trade ambush with trip or shadow depending)

As I’m Idling walking to my destination (some mob, raid boss, pvp objective) I “activate” my trap, then rapidly weapon swap to cancel the move and put it on a 4s CD, and generating 5 stacks of might via DH runes.

I then tend to start off precasting Thief guild

About-face+ withdraw into my opponent to trigger Trappers Respite (5 stacks for placing via DH runes, 5 more when trap is triggered via Deadly Trapper, at this point we are @ 15 stacks)

I then drop my Ambush Trap which should be off CD by now. ~see above about ability cancel~ (5 stacks of might via DH, 5 might when triggered via Deadly Trapper, Resulting in 25 stacks.)

If Improve resets your traps the Needle trap from Trappers Respite is also reset, so I tend to be able to keep the stacks high early in for added burst pressure. If not they will both be back up in like 24’s, and each trap can give 10 stacks of might apiece.

Not to mention the Vulnerability that’s added to the target, or additional burst from having 3 minions blasting and blinding and scorpion wiring them.(or more if traps or elite skill is reset)

: / i’d post my build if Gw2skills.net wheren’t down.

Seeing traps would then lead to a skill that would enable them to disable the traps. Or would seeing automatically disable within a certain distance of the trap?

F3? maybe an F4 to reuse said traps : D

Edit:
Maybe put F3 disarm traps in deadly arts (has some trap abilities in it already but doesn’t need to be here)
And maybe in Shadow arts some sort of disable wells / fields. (F4 to reuse : O )

might give us some counter plays to this new meta. Or give us an identity of what a mesmer can mimic we can pilfer/improv. (didn’t we use to have shadow magic!?)

It always annoyed me how Ambush Thieves didn’t attack the target who triggered it and relied on you initiating an attack before they did or you getting hit. It ruins the fun of actually setting up an Ambush when it triggers at a distance and then runs to you immediately instead of attacking.

You don’t actually have to hit the target. Just spam 1 a few times and they redirect to your current target (pulled a few bosses this way.)

That’s why I worded it as “initiating an attack” instead of “attacking someone” but guess that didn’t get it across.

Oh it did. I was trying to highlight what i find to be a utility of the skill.

Another way I use it is to target lock a player i have downed while actually “aiming” my attacks @ another player. Keeping pressure on them while I swat another.

If anything I’d like a tad more control.

Like pulling them OFF a target I’ve dueled and don’t want to finish (Sorry!)

Thief issues

Liquicity.3621

Let’s get this out of the way: I don’t main thief. I’ve never been able to master the finese of perfectly managing my initiative but knowing that I can’t; I admire those who can rock this class even more than any other. As of late, there’s been a fairly significant drop in people on thief, and those who are playing it aren’t contributing as much to their team as they have in the past. “Why is this?” I found myself asking. I, for the most part (there are always exceptions), beat thieves to a pulp in pvp, duels which is a new thing since the change from traits to specialisations. So let’s take a look at some of the reasons I found why thieves got, arguably nerfed.

Thieves didn’t get any traits made baseline during the change. Many of the classes, most notably mesmer, had traits made baseline, giving them an all round buff to the class. Steal was increased in range by 300 and the recharge was reduced but that was it. The change to deadly arts has essentially made it required to take for any thief build. I think mug needs to be made baseline since it increases survive and damage, so there is literally no reason not to have it. Before it required 2 trait points which was fairly minor and many classes had a trait or two that needed one or two trait points but needing the entire line for it so your build options are dropped drastically. Trickery’s minor traits, grandmaster one not with standing, could also be made baseline on the argument that it’s hard to not take for the bonus initiative.

There is no way to remove conditions outside of shadow arts and even then its just damaging ones. First of all, most DPS classes have a way to deal with weakness where thieves don’t. Thieves really need some way to get rid of weakness since its a hard counter and it has been made easy to apply with cleave skills. Secondly, there’s no way to rapidly remove condis. The remove in stealth trait has been reduced to 1condi per 3s and that’s going to do nothing next to nothing for survive. The only skill that really removes condis for thief is shadow step but that won’t help much against, say, a necro or a burn guard. It really weakens thieves to not have a solution for condis, especially when a lot of abilities now don’t require a target to apply them.

There’s little potential for on point fighting. Thieves have always been bad at this but with acrobatics being turned into what is essentially a worse daredevil, there isn’t exactly an option. Sword dagger was annoying but it was on par with d/p or considered worse and its the one that got the nerf. Now there is daredevil which can fight on point but in no where near the same level, as say, a revenant. Also daredevil plays like an offbrand revenant. It has little stealth, about the same to worse dodge potential, equal mobility, and less damage with out any of the survive. You could say rev needs a nerf, which it does, but even if that happens daredevil still won’t get used as much since it lacks survivability.

Lastly, and most notably, is the introduction of reveal. Being able to reveal a thief for 6 or more seconds is more than enough to kill a thief and between engineers and revs, there is a lot of reveal to go around. There was nothing added to the thief to compensate for this, and that hurts them a lot more than anything. It would be like adding a skill that prevented blocking party wide. Better yet imagine if there was a skill that prevented a necro from using death shroud or, don’t, because it exists and its called moa morph (or signet of humility). Now imagine if it could be used on a 40s cool down. That’s basically what thieves have to deal with. Now, I am going to say, I like the addition of reveal but something should have been done to thieves to make up for it, since I can on my herald use glints gaze 2 more times than a theif can use sr.

If only Karl could have this epiphany.

Ya… but they’d have to bother reading it first.. and GL on any reply ever (source: thief forums)

Profanity/hateful speech reaching new peaks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Liquicity.3621

Liquicity.3621

Since so many are so dead set against seeing any “swears”, I’ll stop using profanity when people can explain why profanity is bad.

So far nobody has ever been able to give me a good reason. It’s always “they just are!” and “iI’m offended because i was taught to be offended!”.

Think about it, and maybe you’ll realize profanity isn’t even worth discussing. Not talking about directed and targeted abuse here either, but the words themselves.

Profanity is bad because it’s against the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed up to play in ANET’s playground. What you do in your own time is your business, and I honestly couldn’t care less if you communicate solely via a complex organization exclusively comprised of profanity. What you do in GW2 is ANET’s business.

I don’t understand this idea that words don’t have power. The words we use absolutely have power. In many ways, language shapes how we perceive the world. “The kitten mightier than the sword” is meaningful for a reason. If you even did a cursory study of linguistics, or even basic communication classes, you’d know that words have power.

I’m not saying that there aren’t instances where people are over-sensitive. I’m just saying that it’s wrong to perpetuate this idea that you can say whatever the kitten you want and it doesn’t effect people. It does. Own up to that.

I have to get to work but this is a good point. Words can have power. However in this situation they only have power if you let them. In real life if someone is trash taking you about how your son does drugs because you failed as a parent that is much different than someone trash talking you because you stomped them in pvp and you’re playin a “scrub” build. If anyone is seriously offended by people in pvp who really can only comment on how crappy their play style is, or how they aren’t contributing enough, etc. Things that relate to the game you don’t have to take that personally. If you are that’s your choice, but most people with a higher level of maturity or resilency won’t be bothered. You can’t really attack someone personally like my former example because you don’t know that person in real life. The only exception is a long time guild mate who you consider to be a friend and knows you on a more personal level doing something nasty and making it personal.

TL:DR – Context clues are a basic reading skill.

Context is what matters. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with a “curse word”. Some can be used as pretty much every part of speech, and can do more than “insult”. They can ADD emotion, or emphasis.

If they are “abusing” you cause they said a bad word.. chill. block. report. If they are actually antagonizing you. I.E. psting you WAY after the fact, taking the subject to another aspect of the game or outside it, stalking etc.

Fine.

But they say a singular bad word after getting downed or something?

Deal.

People have the right to express. Whether or not you prefer their chosen words or not, can express too.

Following up on today’s blog post about raid rewards, we wanted to share some details on specific items:

In order to preserve the challenge of raids, we’re disabling the use of a number of items inside raid instances. Many of these restrictions will be familiar, as they’re also disabled in WvW and dungeons. However, we are also disallowing the use of many runes and sigils that provide bonus damage versus particular types of enemies, as well as the potions that give similar effects. Using food and utility buffs inside a raid is perfectly okay, but most other items that give bonus damage or access to new skills beyond your profession have been disabled.

You forgot to add that thief class is disabled for raids.

Well that’s the first time i’ve blown milk out of my nose since grade school. +1

They already did: thief has no room in raids nor high lv fractals.

At least blizzard devs weren’t so severe with their balancing towards rogues: since rogues didn’t bring anything to group they were (one of the, depending on patch) highest dps in raids. In gw2 on other hand…. enjoy heavily unerperforming in every single aspect of this game (besides RP).

This is a ridiculous statement Blizz couldn’t make a rogue class to save its life. It cant even figure out the class lore, and is took stuck in some failed sewer montage to see what the class even is.

Physicals are pretty good, until you see what a chronomancer can do.

Impairing dagger, is literally Chronomancer’s shield #5, but against one mob and with poison (and most importantly, without interrupt. Impairing dagger needs an interrupt ).
Like seriously, the visual effect on its immob is exactly what is used in chronomancer.
I mean, I may be kinda late to notice that, but it kind of disappointed me to see that the visual that I liked the most on my Daredevil is actually a leftover of the visually most beautifully executed specialization.
It really startled me when I saw this while testing my chrono. I was checking all around me to see if there was a Daredevil around me but I was all alone.

It’s true that Daredevil feels weaker than other specs. But on the other hand, it feels like you can have a more reactive gameplay with it than other specializations.
If we were to compare GW2 to Megaman, I’d say :

Daredevil is base form megaman, and all the other specializations are the bosses. They got all the power-creep, but limited maneuverability compared to Daredevil.

Megaman had tight predictable controls. Something a thief needs. RNG increase in Improv, is counter to that…
