They will still need HoT if they want the HoT Elite skills (Gliding, etc) so not really an issue in my opinion and as others have said I was able to use for the last 2 years. Very much like buying a new car verses a used car, it will go down in value.

I think it’s ridiculous that people are using the phrase “being forced” in the same sentence as “legendary weapon.” It’s a legendary weapon for a reason.

I didn’t see anyone say anything about forced and Lendary weapons, where was that stated?

I’d like to jump in here for a second.Lets put the things in perspective. We have the people that love to do world completion. To them all I can say is I’m happy for you.For you this is not a problem.Lets face it my solutions are not meant for you.If you have read the whole post you would realize there is a catch and it does not hurt you in any way.
On the other hand for us people that despise world completion it offers a simple solution that allow us to avoid spending days in something we hate.Though we pay a price in the face of Gift of Exploration all the keys and gold that come with world completion.
Here is one more perspective.People like me have somewhat of a little OSD that triggers every time I see something on my map missing which is no matter how annoying or painful it is I do world completion or avoid playing that hero.

Using this rationalization I want Legendary Weapons from the new HoT map, but since I don’t want to do what is required allow me to buy this instead, see the point?

Sorry not being rude but the game was designed so that you had to actually play the HoT maps and obtain said items to get these Legendary Weapons. The same thing goes for map completion.

Just be thankful, my first 4 map completions included doing WvW as well as the the basic map.

Have a Great Day!!

It is clear you have not read the post or you did not think over what you were writing. Please put the time to read the whole thing before writing nonsense.

Obviously I did read your original post and I was trying to be nice and let you know that we don’t need shortcuts to map completion, what part of map completion is so hard to understand. Like I said they did make them easier in the beginning WvW was included to get this.

If you want all waypoints, poi’s, Hero Points, and Hearts jump in and do them. If you don’t want them bad enough stick with the one toon you did completion on.

But since I disagree with you I “Obviously” didn’t read your rant.

Just like in real life, achievements feel better when you do them yourself and not rely on shortcuts.

A lot of people are missing the point OP was trying to make. It’s not a matter of having a shortcut to get rewards. The suggestion he posted forgoes all rewards from zones as well as World completion. Meaning that while you get all vistas, poi’s hearts and waypoints unlocked you get absolutely nothing for it. No gifts of explorations, no Hot zone completion gifts.

If that be the case how many would actually do the map, they would just look for the easy way, pull out my Advance to go card.

This is one time I have to say “Not everyone deserves a trophy” for participation.

Since you’re asking for waypoints, that’s gonna get easier anyway with mounts allowed in all of Tyria. I bet you can even see speedruns popping up.
Experienced players know how to quickly do hearts anyway.
A level 80 boost unlocks all level 80 waypoints for a level 80 character.
On top of that, you got TTF if you really quickly need to get somewhere.
I don’t really see the reason for making this even more trivial anymore.

Have you tried doing all the hearts(some are locked behind events) on 11 characters when you do please come and say its trivial.

I have map completion on 19 of 23 characters, so it really isn’t that bad. Do one map per day and in a few weeks its done and you still have fun doing Dungeons, Fractals. and World events. Going through the Personal Story on the character opens a lot of the maps. Good luck and have fun..

New Expansion New Profession?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lite Ning Strike.5203

I would like to see them take a page from the GW1 game version and allow duel classes. Mesmer/Ranger, Guardian/Necro etc….

That is, theoretically, part of what Elite Specs are supposed to replicate, under more controlled circumstances. The elite gives the profession an additional mechanic and a skill type they couldn’t use before. (Though Rage is just Physical with more power attached. C’mon, ANet…)

Theoretically that may have been the plan, but it hasn’t really translated to the current builds in my opinion.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a Mesmer/Elementalist mix? Illusions plus flame!!!

Ugh, I hope not. I never liked the idea of dual classes as I, personally, prefer to have a clear understanding of my character’s identity and role along with everyone elses’. Just my two coppers.

Lol yeah but no more of a nightmare than what we currently have where you need to be a math major to understand what everything does.

I’ve always been the type that I would spend $20.00 dollars to make a $1.00 point, so in this case I’ll just reverse my stance and say I will spend nothing.

They can keep their skins and I’ll hold on to my tickets. Even though theoretically they don’t win or lose they gain nothing and I gain nothing. Thing is I won’t budge, I have always refused to buy skins after they exceed the 1 ticket price, if this is the new norm I guess I won’t buy any others either.

Very disappointed with the Puzzles having to be solved in Story, felt like filler so devs didn’t have to create more content but still stretch out the amount of time to finish.

Is there anywhere to register for taking part in any betas that might be held for the new expansion at some point? I’m just assuming there will be some nearer its release?

Does anyone know what the process was with HoT? Were there betas, how did you get to take part etc? If there were did you get to keep any progress/mastered etc earned during the beta, or did everything get reset so everyone started fresh when it launched?

Thanks

Lake Doric's Map

Lite Ning Strike.5203

Ok did my own personal test/review last night from 7pm to 8pm est. Took a new character that hasn’t mapped this area yet. Did not do personal story only farmed and opened map.

During this time I saw 8 people other than myself on the map. Had no requests to change maps so this may or may not have been the “Hotbed” map lol.

Viewed the Centaur camp from the Vistas not a single person was around not even standing on the hill. No Tags on map either.

Next I did the little loop (got the peach for the daily piece and went to the top). Looked down on map still no one. Next I got to the top (to get the POI at the top of the camp) no one there. Ran back out and jumped/glided down to hill outside camp still no activity.

Ran by several events and no one was working on them. Almost felt like I had stepped into a different dimension lol.

Finished farming mats and left. Again this is not saying all maps are the same but the one I was on last night (oh yeah I’m Eastern Time Zone and on the NA server) was for the most part dead. Shouldn’t matter but my server is Sanctum of Rall.

Again this is not a “hate” type of post only my personal observation.

You can try to hold Anet to your standards as to what constitutes an announcement. However, most developers expect fans to read their blogs.

Do they? I have seen from various MMO developers that only around 10% of a game population regularly reads information outside the game itself. Perhaps you can tell me the source of your information?

The fact that developers in every game I’ve ever played put information about the game into blogs, interviews and forum posts which never makes it into the game. That’s about as specific as your “facts,” so if you want a list of games you’re going to have to pony up your info. By the way, if you are all aggrieved because GW2 did not in game tell you what to expect from HoT, does that mean you read developer statements for other games but not this one? In other words, just where did you get, “I have seen from various MMO developers that only around 10% of a game population regularly reads information outside the game itself?”

People pick and choose how much they want to read about any subject. As far as games go, some people just want to play, and then there are various levels of “fan” that want additional information besides what is in the game. I’m pretty sure that the professionals at Anet know this and don’t think that every player is going to read their blog.

I could go find quotes regarding the percentage of players that read additional material, but since you are not concerned enough to bother to support your claim, neither am I to that extent. However I will support it by one anecdote I know by heart: I almost never read the GW2 blogs. I didn’t read the one about HoT you are referencing. And I am one of the more active players on the forums.

I agree. There are those people who won’t read and just want to play and those people will never really make it in the end game of ANY MMO.

Even in Guild Wars 1, without having one of the meta builds for Underworld no one was going to let you into their pug group. Sabway, I-way whatever the flavor of the month was, you had to have it, which meant you had to have a clue, usually by going to PVX-wiki.com if nothing else.

The same is true here. As to HoT not being any more end game than the rest of the game, Anet was clear that HOT was harder from the outset, and if that wasn’t enough, there was a beta and people were saying it.

Before you buy any product you should do a modicum of research. If you don’t, that’s on you.

I understood before HoT launched that it was meant to be more difficult end game content. Anyone who doesn’t know that isn’t paying attention and those same people would suffer in the end game of any MMO.

“End Game” in every MMO I know about is differentiated from regular content by barriers to entry. End Game is usually raids or dungeons which require multiple people. Sometimes it is gated by other requirements. It is laughable for ANYONE to insist that HoT is “end game” content.

Other MMOs also have progressive open world zones. However, their zones are generally balanced so that all level 30 zones are of similar difficulty, etc. GW2 is the only MMO I know that has level 80 zones that are WILDLY more difficult than other level 80 zones. This means that people used to playing MMOs will not (and did not) expect the huge disparity of HoT zones. This is why they should have had a better description when purchasing HoT and an in-game warning as well.

It’s like going into a restaurant that serves some food that is spicy (lvl 80). All the food that is spicy is noted by a little pepper next to the name (lvl 80 label). You’ve eaten at this restaurant before, so you know you like the level of spice in their food. But you order a new dish and put a bite in your mouth and it burns your mouth off. Now there is a description at the bottom of the menu in fine print that this dish is much spicier than the rest of the dishes on the menu, but you didn’t go out of your way to look for it because you naturally assumed that a spicy dish would be of the same level of spiciness as the others in the menu.

I love how you use words like laughable to try to denigrade people’s opinions. HoT is end game, because legendary weapons are end game and you have to play HOT to make hot legendaries. This isn’t most MMOs. This MMO didn’t even launch with raids.

HoT IS end game for the open world. Something this game has always focused on…unlike other MMOs.

If HoT is end game why are they making an expansion? That doesn’t seem accurate to me, unless you are thinking the expansion will stay in the same area, even then that would suggest HoT wasn’t the end.

Micromanagement of players

Nor was this farm game breaking or giving anyone an edge as everyone else could do it.

As far as im aware only engies could take part in it right? So not everyone could do it. If you didnt have an engineer you lost out which is one of the major issues I had with it.

On top of that I dont have an issue with farming in general and turret farm was okish to me but I still dont think you should be able to consistently and intentionally be able to get loot while away from the PC screen. (exception is TP flipping i guess since its impossible to stop) Lots of people set down turrets, went away to do IRL stuff and came back once every 5-10 minutes. While it doesnt seem like much, its still 10minutes of AFK looting which shouldnt happen.

It actually could be joined by any class, for example while doing events, farming wood and metal I have stopped in with my Ranger, Necro, and Elementalist and looted for 5 minutes or so then went on my way. No one ever said anything about be joining.

I’m like you I never sat there and farmed but I still hate the fact that this area was created as a farming area, it was even advertised by ArenaNet as such before the release then when others started complaining because others were “farming” they get their panties in a wad.

If they paid as much attention to little things like economy, prices, and the number of mats needed to craft items this would never have become an issue.

It may do no good to complain because they will, as you say do what they want but at least we can at least stand up for each other. The knee jerk response to everything has got to go.

ArenaNet try listening to everyone not just a select few. I will step down from my soap box now…..

Micromanagement of players

Lite Ning Strike.5203

Actually to me, the Lake Doric engie farm was bad PR. It is the kind of thing that turns me off from MMOs in general, and I’m happy that Anet stepped in.

The area was designed so that the point of interest on top would be accessible when groups of people ran up the hill to centaur farm.

You can’t complete the map without that point of interest. The engie farm was making it so people didn’t want to go.

It’s borderline exploit and exploits should be dealt with.

What Anet has done was stop people who wanted to put in the least amount of effort possible to get stuff. Good for them.

Actually that POI can be obtained going up the back way. That’s how I always go I never need a “group” to run up the hill.

And I must disagree, though I wasn’t a Engineer farmer I have no issue with those who enjoy and prefer to do this. ArenaNet keeps listening to the complainers who want everyone to play like they play and they will see other issues.

I can’t understand why folks want to complain about the farmers, if you want to do the event use one of your famous quotes, “use LFG or create you own on a map not farming”. If it works for Dragon Stand it will work for Lake Doric.

Can we do something about mastery points?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lite Ning Strike.5203

Lite Ning Strike.5203

Ok where does this say masteries will be hidden behind Mini Games?

“To train a specific Mastery track, you must first unlock it by spending Mastery points. Mastery points are awarded for completing various pieces of game content. Things like completing a chapter in your personal story, completing certain achievements, reaching hard-to-find locations, overcoming challenging encounters, excelling at adventures found within the Heart of Maguuma, or earning 100% completion for a map will award Mastery points. Each Mastery point can be earned once per account, so while Mastery points allow you to unlock Mastery tracks, they are also an indicator of how much of the game you’ve experienced. In fact, once you have unlocked the ability to train Masteries, your nameplate will display the number of Mastery points you have gained rather than your level. Mastery points can be gained at any level but cannot be spent until level 80.”

Also when I pre-purchased Heart of Thorns I’m pretty sure this wan’t available (not that I would have picked up on mini games from this description) since I ordered day 1 of being available.

Hopefully you will not prepurchase in the future. Wait, see if it matches your preferences, and then buy.

And that solves the issue regarding “Masteries” how? Whether I pre-purchase or don’t doesn’t have anything to do with Masteries hidden behind mini games.

I understand the thought behind it (don’t give them your money if you don’t like it) but I love the main theme of the game I just want to get my opinion thoughts out there so hopefully they won’t make the same mistakes (again my opinion) on the new expansion.

Thanks Ashen

You opened your post with a question about where Anet advertised masteries as being hidden behind minigames and closed with commentary about what was said when you prepurchased HoT. Everything in between was quoting someone else. My post was not intended to solve, retroactively, your issue with masteries. I responded to what you said, not to an issue perhaps raised in another post or something of the sort.

As to how my point might address similar situations in the future:

Prepurchasing insulates the company from consequences, at least in the short term, of their decisions. By giving them your money without knowing what the product will be in its release form you have financed those development decisions that you dislike (hate, despise, etc). A complaint on the forum, in hopes of change, generally, will not have the same impact as a decision to not buy until after desired changes have been made.

A player base that says, in effect, “we have given you our money up front, product sight unseen, and you have no reason to believe that we won’t do so again, but we don’t like feature X,” is likely to have less impact than a player base saying, “you have to prove that your product is worth our money before you are going to get it.”

Ok if that’s the path of choice show me where they said you would be required to do mini games that have nothing to do with the story or general game style play. My quote was from ArenaNet sir/ma’am.

And I also disagree with you. I enjoy the game and if I and others relay their displeasure with the path they chose, they will hopefully realize that’s not the way to go with the next expansion.

I will buy the next expansion on pre-order with the faith that they will take a different path. As far as I can see for the most part (other than Mastery’s) they have made adjustments by listening to the player base.

And the new zones have XP gained with Unbound Magic, because people complained it was “too grindy” to level mastery xp tracks. Of course, that also starts to touch on raid masteries and xp-loss issues that would turn this already-contentious thread into a cesspit, so I’m just gonna stop there.

Most people want mastery points but not everyone likes the content you have to do enough to get those mastery points. If those players force themselves to do that content, they’re not going to be having fun, even though the got the reward.

That’s how I feel about all those mini games in HoT. I will eventually do them for the mastery points, but they are a duty and not fun.

Last time the karka mini game was a daily. I entered the arena and we were two (at times three) players who just sat down at the side and waited until it’s over. I tried to enter and leave immediately, but you have to finish to make it count as daily. You also have to use a skill sometimes to not get kicked.

Most stupid thing in the whole game. But the fourth daily was something worse.

So yes, the fun is not the activity itself, but the reward. If both is fun, that’s great, and most of the things in GW2 are like that for me. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here. But as you said, something that is fun for one group is despised by another. I don’t mind some grind., but many Tyria Mastery Points are no fun to get.

The problem with arcade games is that IMO they don’t belong in an RPG. Sure, a lot of people like them, but a lot of people like solitaire – that doesn’t mean Anet should put solitaire in GW2. If people like arcade games, or solitaire, or Mario Bros they should go play those games which exist elsewhere.

Nothing wrong with putting arcade games in an RPG as long as the rewards for them are seperated from everything else. I have no problem with Sanctum Sprint because it’s self contained. It interferes with nothing. If I want the achievements for it I can do it, but if I ignore it, it’s really no cost to me.

Adventures are a different animal.

I agree add all the min games you want just don’t put Masteries or other things used to advance the game behind them. Same goes for jumping puzzles give these and mini games a big box of shiny’s (heck put Ascended items in the box) just not things along the line of Masteries or even Hero Challenges that directly affect game play.

No you want to do them to attain some frivolous rewards, making them completely optional.

Mastery points are frivolous?

Considering how many excess ones we have, yes chasing the ONE located in a JP when you know you hate JP’s is not only frivolous but an exercise in insanity.

You’d think if you hate platforming, you’d i don’t know here NOT do that part and chase the literally hundreds of other alternatives.

But the rest are hidden behind in game games (mini games) so you have to do JP or Mini Games which really shouldn’t be part of the Mastery System in my opinion. This is forcing you to do one or both of these content types.

I go with the group that says give JP specific Achievements or Mini Game specific Achievements, even chests with awesome loot. Just don’t make them needed for Mastery’s that are tied to the flow of the general game and stories.

Lake Doric engineer-only leather farms

Didn’t they nerf this farm by increasing the respawn rate of centaurs?

That’s my understanding, yes. I’d assume that it’s now approximately as rewarding as any other “AFK” farm in the game.

(Note: the definition of AFK that a bunch of folks on the forums use, and that anet use, are not in sync, and it’s entirely possible to sit in one place and farm this as long as you are responsive to gm whispers and/or actually pressing some buttons. Regardless of what should be, that is what is.)

I think ArenaNet is to blame for AFK style farming. Making things rare then increasing the uses for it is a “recipe” for this kind of behavior.

Instead of making farms reduce the number of items needed to craft. I really don’t think it would be any more detrimental to the environment/economy than these type of farming practices.

Disclaimer Just my Opinion……

Not trying to “sidestep” the question but I like both, however I hate to be forced to do either to achieve things. I understand for Meta events but Hero Points and Masteries should not be tied to forced teaming of content.

I have a super small guild we spend as much time chatting about real life while gaming in TS. I really enjoy playing and talking to folks from all over the world. That’s what I like about the multiplayer side over solo.

The thing is, if they made HoT as easy as core maps, then all the people would just deplete core content and all the new players would have been leveling in empty maps with no veteran around to show them how the game operates.

No matter what style the expansion maps were, players would still be playing in those maps as well as core Tyria.

And in HoT there is no guarantee of a vet player showing anyone the ropes. I have been in several failed AB metas lately where after it failed many “vets” criticized people doing things wrong. My comment in Map Chat was “why didn’t you tell people what to do while the event was running instead of waiting until after it failed?”

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. As in for “showing the ropes” I wasn’t talking about HoT maps. I personally think that for any new player starting the game, it feels motivating to see players appearing as “vets” (due to their skin) still go back in core tyria. And that could only really happen if Anet devs, in the first place, did not make HoT content a carbon copy of how core maps operated.

I’m still not understanding – you think that vets wouldn’t go back to core Tyria no matter what style the expansion maps were? We still have dailies…

Didn’t ArenaNet kinda tell us they didn’t want the Vets in core when they killed the Champ Trains?

If memory serves me correctly folks were whining about the trains (Vocal Minority) so they killed it. Seems like the maps started losing population shortly afterwards.

They certainly didn’t want the Champ Train, but that isn’t the same as not wanting vets. By having dailies in core maps they do invite everyone to go back. But because events are spread throughout the map, instead of everyone going to a single champ, it is less toxic.

Well I afraid that’s what happened, and to be honest myself and my friends and Guild mates only go through there when we level a new character. Even with a few more events thrown in it just isn’t worthwhile.

Sorry not trying to be negative but when I have time to play I want to maximize my return for time used.

I’ll redo a few dungeons 20 times before I will roam in the low level maps, just not worthwhile. Make it worthwhile and more Vets will return, until then…………………………………

they shouldnt be trying to get vets in starter zones, unless they like newbie playstyle

Do you really want them to incentivize the most hardcore people to hang out in the lowest easiest zones?

I was actually giving my response to Djinn in regards to them not wanting Champ Trains but wanting Vets to stay in the areas.

All I was saying is “if” they want Vets in the area they need to make it worthwhile for the Vet otherwise it will not happen, unless (as Vayne mentioned) the Vet is passing through in need of Mats for crafting something or doing dailies and Guild Missions.

I still love the chase to 80 by mapping so my opinion is play the game to level 80. Go for map completion on at least one but I would say on all if possible.

If it says anything I have 23 level 80 toons, 19 soon to be 20 with map completion and only 1 went straight to 80…. Have fun however you decide to play!!

If memory serves me correctly folks were whining about the trains (Vocal Minority) so they killed it. Seems like the maps started losing population shortly afterwards.

And that’s a good thing. First of all they didn’t kill champ trains. They killed the Queendale champ train. They made zero changes to the Frostgorge champ train.

I think the Queendale champ train should have never existed at all. It was a bad thing for new players not a good thing.

I saw a guy once in Lornar’s Pass come into the zone and say where’s the train, because he leveled in Queensdale and didn’t know the game at all. That’s not the face to show new people.

The zone population was artificially increased by the champ train and it went back to normal. That’s a good thing. Still plenty of people roaming around Queensdale.

Lets just agree to disagree on the Champ Train. When the guy asked about the train in Lornar’s did you explain the difference? I hope so that’s goes a lot farther in helping folks.

Most folks that are leveling don’t return to the starter areas without incentive, just the nature of the beast.

It can’t be both ways, if you want Vets make it worthwhile. If you don’t leave it like it is………

My only complaint regarding the current Masteries are the ones tied to in game mini games and jumping puzzles. I log in to play the MMO fantasy game, not tic tac toe or dodge em’.

Associate them with killing Bosses, doing events, or communing like some are already are. If you want some associated with mini games go ahead just make sure there are enough other options to obtaining them by playing the game itself, and to be able to max all lines in the Masteries.

This is my biggest issue with the Game. I can’t stand the mini games or jumping puzzles (others love them good for them) but they need to give everyone no matter their game play style the option to earn max Masteries. By max I mean to be able to completely fill all bars to the max.

I would/could agree with you if this were a World Boss, but not on a Personal Story. I think that’s what is being missed Personal should be soloable without having to invest in different armor or weapons than what was used to get to this point. Remember you aren’t actually killing Mordy at this point its a mind game, his death comes from the Dragon Stand Event.

No need to invest in anything. Just swap some utilities around and don’t stay in red circles.

Thing you kill in DS is mordy’s mouth. You kill mordy in that final story fight.

Gotcha I always thought the DS was killing off Mordy Thanks for the info.

Yeah I have completed on multiple Toons I just always feel sorry for anyone stuck in the penalty box.

I’ve also gotten past this part too many times to count and the game glitches and won’t let us finish but that’s something entirely different.

My thought is they should be able to be resurrected since they allow folks to res against World Bosses. Again this is my opinion only others may/will vary lol
