I miss it for various reasons. The gear progression / treadmill I could care less about, kiss that kitten goodbye..
But I do miss the huge, epic dungeons, the challenging content and the way a group of players would have to come together (most frequently in PvE guilds) and over VoiP to communicate and collaborate in completing the content.
It created a better sense of community and accomplishment than “oh hey there’s a DE boss lets zerg it” then not remembering anyone’s names or needing to even so much as communicate tactics or fight mechanics with anyone.
Clarification on systems associated with Diminishing Returns.

There is a problem with Anet delivering a detailed description of how their Diminishing Return mechanics work. It clearly outlines how people may avoid them. And since the main point of the entire DR concept is to inhibit farmers and bots, it would allow that group of players / exploiters to circumvent the system.
So uhh.
No.
Things aren’t forced up your throat. That’s a different orifice.
Things are forced down your throat.
Also, if I see another fricken thread where someone is complaining about achievements that require them to do an activity they don’t like, my head is liable to pop. It’s an achievement. You are in no way shape or form compelled to complete it. Doing so is an act of purely free choice motivated vaguely by, perhaps, the need to collect and accomplish as much as you can.
Knowing this how are you in any way surprised that such achievements encompass all parts of the game rather than just the ones you define as enjoyable? More importantly, why the heck are you disappointed?
What they need is an underwater zone, and not just some random high level expansion area. My biggest problem with underwater combat from lvls 1-50 was that I didn’t have the opportunity (or need) to learn all of my weapon’s skills underwater, and did not realize for the longest time that I had a separate set of traits while underwater.
That and I would usually forget to try and upgrade my mask / weapon most of the time and end up trying to do underwater content with old gear. This is a problem of exposure, nothing else. Give people more reason to go underwater more frequently and they’ll learn to love it. IMO it’s rather well developed, just that people generally suck at it and some classes adapt better than others.
This sounds like a reasonable suggestion, and seems fairly priced. Doubling the storage space for craftable items is nothing to sneeze at and I think it’s definitely in line with the design philosophy presented in their current bank expansion options.
+1
There’s nothing obscure here. You pay an upfront 5% fee to list the item. You pay an additionl 10% of the sale price when it succeeds. Changing it to be 15% upfront would cost people MORE money because it would charge them full price even on items that failed to sell.
In short, your idea is terrible, and will cause more people to freak out because they actually “DID” lose their money.
Yep. Add dueling. Don’t worry about naysayers who cry about vague potential balance issues in the far future.
There are only two arguments against this feature which so many people want. One is easily resolved and the other is, in my opinion, not very rational.
1) people will get spammed with dueling requests
>add an option for the recipient player to turn off dueling so they cannot be spammed.
>profit
2) If dueling is added people might begin crying about class balance from a 1v1 perspective, which could influence the overall balance of the game. They don’t like this prospect.
>It’s not your job to balance the game, it’s Anets. Believe it or not, they don’t listen to everyone’s feedback and execute changes based purely on the playerbase’s opinion. They listen sometimes.. when we aren’t crazy.. but always with a grain of salt.
>Class balancing from this perspective is not an inherently wrong or evil thought. In fact, balancing perspectives from WvW, sPvP and 1v1 could add a more complete view of game balance in general.
>Ultimately, it doesn’t actually change the balance of the game, it only opens an avenue for players to comment on and developers to review. Only when developers take action is anything changed. You either trust Anet or you don’t at this point – they can ruin the game in plenty of other ways, dueling won’t be the magic bullet. Knowing this, there is no “good” reason to prohibit the feature.
I don’t.
Matter of fact, I look forward to the moment where I’m sitting in Lion’s Arch with my ideal set of lvl 80 exotics and 50+g in the bank. Right then, I expect, will be a triumphant moment where I realize instead of constantly grinding to keep up to par and make sure I don’t get totally left behind in stats, I can lean back, play whatever part of the game I kitten want to and enjoy every minute of it.
And god forbid – but if I leave for a few weeks or months and come back, I will still be up to snuff and able to smear the wall with your brains. So go ahead. Grind for that legendary, or those skins, or whatever the heck you like. But on the field, I’ll still own you with skill-based gameplay, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Some of the original ideas here are brilliant.
1) Let guilds buy a Commander feature and be able to assign it to anyone in the guild at any time (transferable)
2) People who join WvW can see a list of active Squads in that borderlands. These squads can be opened by anyone with a commander badge and once joined will highlight squadmembers on-screen and on the mini map a different color.
3) People who are NOT in the squad will NOT see the giant commander badge.
This will create a much stronger incentive to both join squads and actually follow the squad in WvW.
There was another thread like this not too long ago.
I supported it then, I support it now.
Report bots. A captcha pops up. Bots are pwned and prevented from logging back in for a set period of time.
Once the captcha is answered you can’t get another for a set period of time (prevents players from getting captcha-spammed).
Ahahahahaha

No but really should be fixed.
Wow, those who are criticizing the original poster need to read again.
Having all of your friends leave a game is a real problem. Those players who have established groups they play MMOs with aren’t going to run around solo. I have a guild of 80 players. 4 were online last night.
One of the major points he made regarding WvW is that server transfers are killing it, and he’s absolutely right. All of the major WvW guilds on my server left for one of the big three a week ago. WvW has sucked ever since. The server transfers need to stop. Maybe one transfer per week would be better.
Dungeons are over-tuned, and imo, just aren’t fun. But that’s another issue.
The token bugs are a huge problem and need to be fixed asap. They are driving players away.
I can’t believe some of you fanboys dismissing a reasonable, sensible post like the OPs Shame on you. If you drive everyone off you will be living on a ghost town. Have fun with dynamic events and WvW when there’s no one around.
Token bugs are being actively worked on. Anet has rolled out two updates on this issue in the last two weeks. Did you really think that the game would be bugless and perfectly balanced upon release?
Server transfers are going away “soon”™. Doesn’t really matter what it is doing to WvW right now, the issue will be resolved as soon as free transfers are set aside and Guesting goes up. Why are you bleating about it like it’s the end of the world?
Players leaving is ultimately one of the biggest downfalls of any game. It has a dangerous snow ball effect that the OP describes very accurately. However, this game more than many others has tried to compensate for that as best they can. Don’t forget what Free server transfers were about – to help people play with their friends. Don’t forget what the guesting feature is about, to keep people playing together.
I don’t get why pointing out factual evidence of Anet busily fixing the existing issues somehow qualifies myself or others as myopic fanbois. Please, explain.
I read your entire post as your were posting it.
Only thing I have to say is that you qualify completely as an impatient gamer. The fact that they are rolling out fixes for these issues, and have changes set down in stone for the future (no more free server transfers) that would alleviate others should prevent you entirely from complaining about the issue in the first place.
Incompetence in WvW will never go away. Anet should never employ any sort of mandatory training. This is not a professional army, it’s a video game. You don’t like it? Compensate by being proportionally more awesome.
Dungeon rewards are being tweaked and tweaked again to try and balance appropriate rewards against exploitative gamers and farmers. Don’t fret, son, they’ll get it right sooner or later. Thing has only been out for like a month.
Just because your guild isn’t around anymore doesn’t mean sPvP is lost to you. You are able to tag with multiple guilds. If you want to participate in it, find a group of people to do that with. Not having an organized team =/= fundamental game flaw.
The only thing I resonated with here was the way you described your Thief. You said you felt forced to play him a certain way in Dungeons, which I don’t think is right. You should be able to play a spec you want to and do so well without the game mechanics arbitrarily dictating what is and is not viable (melee DPS = deadski). This is a problem I’ve identified in the game as well. I consider it symptomatic of their no-trinity approach. It also echoes into the dungeons and boss mechanics, causing things to be a little more zergy, a little more spammy, and a whole lot less fun.
Hopefully, in time, they will resolve these sorts of issue with balance tweaking and updates to the dungeons and boss-style DEs.
I’ve got no interest in gear progression. I played WoW for years, and yes, even participated in the end game raiding all the way through BT back in the days of Burning Crusade. It was brilliant and fun, but none of that had anything to do with gear.
So long as GW 2 can come up with equally complex and challenging fights, I will be happy. I could care less about your “carrot”. The WHY of a game is not obtain X item to participate in Y content to obtain Z item to participate in [ ] content etc. etc. ad infinitum.
The point is to play the game, see the content (which needs to be challenging and complex, currently skeptical…) and hang out with friends. If you don’t enjoy it for those reasons you need to reevaluate why you are playing the game.
(edited by Lord Jaguar.9504)
I get one every morning.
Your point?
Hmm.
You transferred servers away from your guild of 4+ years, expecting to be able to transfer back for free with no hassle. Doesn’t that sound a bit like a privilege to you? I dunno, maybe it is a god given right that you expect at all times.
shrug
I’m not sure if any MMO I’ve played has compared to Guild Wars 2 as far as how fun, engrossing and generally well-made it is. That is not to say the game is without problems. . . but those problems pale in comparison to the improvements Anet has made on the genre, and the potential this franchise has 6 months or 1 year down the line.
Give them a minute and I bet you’ll be looking at something truly awesome, beyond comparison.
Do you have to explore unique POIs on all 4 maps, or just a set for the 3 borderlands and 1 for the eternal battlegrounds?
Either way this falls firmly under the “it’s an achievement I should be able to do it by myself” argument. Guess what? There are plenty of things you have to do WITH people, or in the case of WvW / PvP, AGAINST people.
Enjoy.

Complain about B because it is too much A
I cannot count the number of threads I have seen where some people argue intensely for one thing, Anet actually PROVIDES IT (wtf?!) and then other people complain about exactly that.
Ex:
Dude: “Hello Anet, please make dungeon tokens account bound not character bound, thx”
Anet: “sure no probz dude you seem cool”
Dude2: “omfg Anet you are so stupid now characters that have never set foot in a dungeon can get armor sets from there omfg why is your game so full of crap”
Answer: There is no pleasing 100% of the playerbase. If Anet tries to please 80% of the playerbase it will only work 20% of the time.
Solution = kitten and only ask them to fix things that are IMPORTANT. Because unlike a number of other games, the development team actually seems to care, they have displayed the ability to make quick, decisive modifications based on customer feedback, and most importantly, THEY DO NOT LISTEN TO EVERYkittenON THE FORUMS.
>Fictional game, check.
>Chose skinniest female human model, check.
>Complains that ankles are unrealistically skinny and “fake” (actual quote)
Hmm. HMMMM.
Should the art team also take a second look at the Asura? I think we all know without anti-gravity forehead belts they would pretty much flop over taking their first low-G turn around the store with their grocery cart, and NEVER recover.
What about them big Norns with biceps thicker than most adult human torsos? That doesn’t objectify masculinity at all.
Or those weird mutant goat-cat-dog hyenas who run-waddle like their spines were made out of rubber. That doesn’t look very healthy.

I want to be able to play as the vorpal bunny from Monty Python.
That is all.
title says it all, i have more than one guild. and just like in real life if one girl knows about the other they get jealous if youre around but not hanging out with them. please if im representing another guild dont show anyone not on a friends that im online. they dont need to know. i like multiple guilds one per character. but i cant do that if they keep crying about me not representing them.
just a thought either take out multi guilds or take out online for non friends/current guild youre in.
Seems like a personal issue bro.
Smack ’dat tramp and put her back into her place.
AKA if people in your guild are crying about your other guild(s), tell them to bugger off and mind their own business. Solved w/o Anet needing to be involved.
I dislike anything put in the hands of others, esp. players. Also this is a rather lackluster non-inspiring sollution … I would suggest searching for F4-RM on the suggestion forum (or clicking this link: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/F4-RM-the-anti-bot-Golem-combatting-bots-with-bots ) … and express your support for this feature, that essentially does the same thing, but doesn’t give controll to people (that could use this to report players in PvP, WvW or even just in the world – to force a captcha on them), and it also gives the opportunity to confront the ‘detected’ players with an enjoyable DE, instead of an immersion breaking Captcha pop-up.
OP is stressing simplicity and realism. You are right in that both of these features does essentially the same thing – except that the F4-RM bot will have a limited list of questions and therefor answers, and once learned and taught the bots will be homefree.
The Captcha may be annoying from time to time, but just implement a limit. You can only be “reported” in this way every so often, and only if a sufficient number of players trigger it in a relevant time window.
AKA minimum of 5 reports in a 10 minute window.
Once reported, Captcha appears as OP describes, but cannot re-activate for another 15 minutes.
Got to level 40 and just didn’t see the point :L
Hmm.
So what you are saying is every other game out there is pointless with the exception that they allow you to grind for gear and phat lewtz.
Because sPvP is roughly equivalent to Arathi Basin or Huttball / TOR..
And WvW is immensely superior to Alterac Valley / the open world PvP joke on TOR.
The only thing I can grant you, which is irrelevant to gear, is that the raiding content does not yet appear present in GW 2.

Not really. Most of my friends and guildmates have stated at various times that we intend to spend real money in the cash shop on a regular basis in order to support the game, but that is out of love and appreciation for what Anet has done. Other games would force me to pay $15 for the right to play a product I already bought.
GW 2 allows me to choose when to and when not to support the game. If I stop enjoying the content, get bored or frustrated, I’ll just take a break from the whole thing and not worry about a monthly subscription or 1 year long value-pack going to waste. When I come back I will do so with confidence knowing there won’t be a 6 month long gear progression waiting for me before I can get back into competitive form.
Plus, I get to spend that $15 on anything I like for my character, from gold to aesthetics to farming buffs to little pets. I think it’s a beautiful system. My only issue with it so far, in fact, is that the buying power of in game currency is too strong to really motivate me to purchase gems. I assume that’s because ALOT of people are buying Gold with Gems. But if I wanted an item now, crap, it’s like 25s for 100 gems. What’s the dollar conversion again? I was looking at the primeval armor set and it was going to be like $7-8 I think at the time. . then I realized I could just spend 1g on it instead. Kind of a no brainer.
However, I suspect in the future gems will become more valuable and the buying power of gold will become inverted, at which point I will almost certainly start using a little real money here and there through the shop.
You can describe lack of organization as a symptom of poor skills, especially in the context of WvW. I think what he was stressing is that it doesn’t matter how well you can play your class or string your skills, if you spend your time running off by yourself trying to gain personal glory then you are not contributing to the group effort as much as you could.
Whereas a “skilled” WvW player would spend more time doing things like organizing small teams, calling out enemy movements, rezzing allies and trying to frustrate enemy supply and siege. Killing people is entirely secondary to the objectives in WvW.
On a side note, I play from TC, and even during the day we typically have light numbers compared to Dragonbrand. Maybe it is just an issue with optimism / dedication. But those who are online when I play couldn’t give a kitten less about DB owning 90% of the map, because we are too busy trying to find out how to steal it back one slice at a time. The complaints stems from uneven numbers, not uneven points / position.
Any WvW guilds out there want another meatsack? Looking to add some more organized PvP to my life.
My main is named Kharn Deathscream.
This was derived from Kharn the Betrayer in Warhammer 40k. I play CSM and he’s pretty much my favorite named special character. Kind of a badkitty.
why cant you just let us have dueling it’s not like it effects you at all if you dont want to do it then dont its not that big of a deal it hurts no one….
It could potentially have a MASSIVE effect on the balance of the entire game so, yes, it affects me even if I don’t do it.
How is it going to have an effect on balance?
Because people will suddenly start coming to the forums crying about dueling balance???

Aside from general shenanigans and all around fun-having, a Dueling System is a great way for players to test their skills in a controlled environment. It also allows them to setup player-run events such as 1v1 Tournaments, to engage in another layer of RP that could include characters fighting eachother, and the ever-awesome duel blobs that exist persistently near any major city.
Just do it, please. Thanks. =)
Physical authenticator keys are a leading technology in information security. SWTOR had this at launch, not sure why GW 2 felt like abstaining – especially considering the decision has helped contribute to more than ten thousand accounts being compromised.
Don’t get me wrong. I want the option to re-customize my character. But you are going down a path that may as well include changing class.
All I want is to be able to change my cosmetic features within the race/gender I’ve already chosen. Don’t reset the story. Don’t change any gear or skillpoints or traits. Just let me change my haircut, or skintone, or edit my height / bulk ratios. That’s all we really need.
You start letting people take their lvl 80 female Sylvari Mesmers into male Norn Guardians in the process of resetting the personal story and I think it’s just too much / not worth it / not realistic. You want it that bad, roll a new character at that point.
The option should be there for us to TWEAK fine details on existing characters, not completely reinvent them into new people but somehow keep our lvl 80 progress.
Could not support this more. +1
I can’t tell you how many frustrating experiences I’ve had with my Warrior trying to target someone in WvW. Left-clicking a specific target while strafe dodging with the RMB held down is a PAIN. Tab target is obviously of no use in that kind of cluster.
This would allow me to attack an opponent the way I want too without being hampered by the targeting system.
Please and thank you Anet!!!
The problem with official RP servers is that they are tagged as such.
So that trolls, children and generally just griefers flock to them to disrupt otherwise genuine roleplayers just trying to enjoy their server. This is exacerbated in this game by the presence of (currently) free world transfers and (in the future) Guesting, which would allow unlimited shenanigans without trolls needing to so much as roll an alt.
To mitigate this and provide a conducive environment for RP, Anet would then need to include additional moderating efforts on the server to report and discipline disruptive players. This would be along the same lines as trying to fight gold farmers; e.g. very ineffective, time consuming and at least in this case generally not worth their time.
So… what they mean when they say that such RP communities should be managed by the players is just this:
You pick a spot, one server is as good as any other
Only the most dedicated trollz will know to try and follow you there
When they do, you are just as good at dealing with it as we are
Have fun and Welcome to Tyria!
FYI: For non-trolls who don’t already know, there is a large RP community on the “unofficial RP Server” Tarnished Coast.
I’m not worried.
I came into this expecting and understanding that I would still have to do a “little” work to get my full exotic set at lvl 80. I like and appreciate that fact – the same way I like and appreciate that I’ll have to grind it all over again if i want to change my spec from Power and +Precision to +Condition and +Toughness/Vitality.
This game did not promise to hand you an even playing field instantly upon dinging 80 or upon queuing WvW. It promised that the “Gear plateau” you are referring to, where all players are created equal, would be much more easily reached and widely accessible to casual players. It is. A gear set that takes 2-3 days or even a week worth of grinding is perfectly reasonable and attainable. It is dwarfed by the grind in games like WoW where you would have to grind BG’s for months or engage in regular team-trading to get your rating up high enough to even qualify for purchasing the latest and greatest PvP gear (which had another layer of uselessness; not as good for PvE regardless of talent spec). And, unlike GW 2, that gear was constantly being phased out and made obsolete by the next best set for people to grind towards.
The strengths of GW 2’s WvW and PvE gear system as it stands are simple, accessible, and fine just the way they are.
1) can ding 80 in just a few weeks of casual play
2) can get the best exotic gear available within a few days or a week’s worth of casual grinding
3) Build types such as Power and Precision damage specs are just as useful in PvP as in PvE situations, thanks to the absence of systems like Resilience and Defense which were deliberately created to make the grind that much longer to obtain viable sets.

This is an important consolidation of facts. Hopefully it will help me avoid any annoying DRs. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this post.
If you have fully explored DR and Queensdale and done your Personal Story quest up to that lvl 16 step, you should be set. The next area south of Queensdale is Kessex Hills, which is level 15-25. You will be perfectly fine going into that area, the mobs will only be a level or so above you.
If you would prefer to get to lvl 15 first, make sure to get 100% completion, pay attention and run a couple of events in Queensdale, or go and do some crafting. Any of these will help contribute enough EXP to make sure you ding up.
In the future, consider using Chef food to help your XP progression or even consumable Boosts from the item shop / Black Lion Chests.
My warrior was lvl 17 before I went to Kessex Hills because I waited until I had 100% completion in Queensdale. But maybe you didn’t get to do as many Dynamics or something, I dunno.
Pretty sure this is a genius idea. The issue of one-sided WvW is going to drag down anyone’s ability to enjoy the feature, whether you are winning the whole time (boring and easy) or losing the whole time (frustrating and lame).
+1’d this because I think it would help mitigate the more general problem of WvW balancing.
There will always be an extremely vocal group of players to complain about the lack of gear progression and raiding.
This will do nothing to quiet them, because to them it doesn’t count as content if there aren’t gear upgrades. That’s why all the people telling them about things to do now aren’t quieting them.
No matter how much there actually is to do, without gear upgrades that type of player just doesn’t understand the point in playing.
Maybe that’s true, but there will also be a large number of players who love and play the kitten out of raid style content and could genuinely care less about a couple of pixels. I loved raiding in WoW. It was challenging, awesome, and built memories for me and my guild (see; friends). Couldn’t care less about the gear.
It’s about the fight, the thrill, and the experience. Guild Wars 2 is an amazing and ground breaking game – if Anet manages to add something like raiding into it that manages to hit my tickle spot, I think I could call it perfect. And stay here for a very, very long time.
It will happen. So stop spamming the suggestion forum.
The devs literally confirmed that there will be dueling in the future. They need time to stamp out bugs instead of making new ones.
Link.
You blew through 300 hours of content in 3 weeks? And you paid how much for it?
its not 300 hours though, its more like 100 doing it effeciently.
and to the previous poster…. that list is rubbish.
Your opinion. IMO, it’s not rubbish at all. And what the heck does “doing it efficently” mean other than “blow through”?
Wow, really?
In the first ten suggestions of that list is included one about collecting a set of armor from all 8 dungeons in the game.
Grind much?
Having mindless grinds left to do does not equate to good content available left at lvl 80. Guild Wars was supposed to get away from that, not force feed it to us as the “only thing available”.
Why? Explain your logic, Mr. -1.
Without dueling I am unable to appropriately flex my kitten in Divinity’s Reach and taunt characters shorter than mine into a duel of honor.
Should be solved pronto.
You ran out of golden poo bro.

Again, really raids are all that are missing and that seems to be what everyone is demanding. I’m so glad they aren’t in this game.
What makes you so glad that raids are absent in GW 2, knowing that other people would really enjoy them? What dark and dismal experience with the games of christmas past has soured you so completely against the concept of a raid? Is it gear progression? Because GW 2 doesn’t need to have gear grinds and raids at the same time. Just because other games have done it that way doesn’t make it smart.
Having raids without a gear progression though, sounds pretty fun. So why not? Make your case.
Every game doesn’t need scripted dungeon raids. A better idea would be more world bosses. That’s raiding material.
Please read posts above yours before replying with cursory opinions.
I don’t mind more world bosses. More the better, I think it’s an awesome concept.
BUT THEY ARE EMPTY. The fights are boring zergfests. They need the DEPTH of a scripted raid encounter, I couldn’t care less if they are instanced with 25 people or in the open world with hundreds.
But for the love of god make them complex and challenging, or else it’s all just for show. A giant cool looking boss with no interesting abilities that people just zerg to death is boring. Sorry mate.

As long as these chats are sufficiently separated (different tabs, colors, etc) I agree with this wholeheartedly. I only recently learned the Standdown feature exists so you can tag multiple guilds. I’m in an RP guild, for example, but want to start doing organized WvW so it’s a great feature set to have available, but Nefarious is right.
This is an easily fixed issue that would increase the ability for players to socialize and organize. In short, +1.

Warrior: Master's of Weapons? Give us a 3rd Weapon swap slot.

Posted by: Lord Jaguar.9504
Elements are far from a second weapon set . Some elements have far greater skill sets on staff than on dagger and yet the Ele is stuck with one weapon set . The Engineer is limited to one weapon set as well. Giving a 3rd set to the Warrior would make it too strong .
Elementalists might be stuck to one weapon, but they have four separate attunements they can switch to in combat, yielding a total of 20 available combat skills vs. the warrior’s 10.
Adding a third weapon for warriors would still only give them 15.
My problem with this theory is that with only two weapon options, you do at least see some warriors with variety. Some people are hammer / rifle. Some are GS / Bow. Some are Sword + Board and Hammer without a ranged weapon at all.
You give us 3 weapon sets, and everyone will have 2 melee + 1 ranged and pretty much look the same. A 2hander, a 1h+offhand or shield, and a ranged.
