Charr aren’t flat faced but I think you could still get that sort of straight vertical look by projecting it a bit farther and make it look more like the artwork. The only thing I don’t like about the newer version, which does look better, is that it does stick so closely to the charr’s head, like a skullcap and very thin on top.

Hello,

I’ve been getting increasingly frequent crashes to the desktop when viewing vistas and cinematics. The most notable case is the vista thats north of Camp Resolve as you head towards Blue keep in the Silverwastes. Crashes everytime on my engineer. Now I’ve had a crash right at the end of No Refuge, which prevented me from getting credit for the episode. Any reason why this is happening?

You’ll likely see more of it on specializations.

What about the base classes, will they be forgotten?

I have the impression that while we are only getting 1 spec in this expansion, since the future will have more specs rolling out for classes you will probably not see people running just a base profession in the future. This is my speculation though, so make of that what you will.

In discussing with some other people, it was pointed out that the Rev could be balanced around swapping your weapon out of combat regularly for different fights, as we do now for utilities and I think if that is executed properly it could be really fun. It just depends on how well the weapons mesh with the locked in elements of the Legends. Looking forward to seeing these guys in action.

I can understand that locking the utlity skills based on Legends invoked is thematically sound. I don’ think they should allow you to use utility skills from a different Legend while invoking the first. What I do think would be nice is if we have more than just 3 utility skills per Legend so we can actually have some customization. Something like:

Legend X has utility skills 1,2,3,4,5,6 to choose 3 from.

Legend Y has utlity skills 7,8,9,10,11,12 to choose 3 from.

Legend Z has utility skills 13,14,15,16,17,18 to choose 3 from.

To use any 3 equipped from Legend X you need to have Legend X invoked. To use any 3 equipped on the bar from Lengend Y you need to have Legend Y invoked and so on.

This can still retain the playstyle per Legend. Legend X (Jalis for example) can have all his utility options focused on tanky brawling. Legend Y (Malyx) can have his utility skills focused on conditions.

This is what I would love to see even at the cost of additional Legends (even a choice of 6 utilities, 1 heal, 1 elite would be good enough). Several people have suggested adding utilities that are non-legend dependent, but I feel that would also hinder the uniqueness of the profession’s mechanics. After all, using a Mallyx legend only to have 2/3 of the utility slots be a basic damage dealer or a passive buff hurts some of the uniqueness of actually being attuned to that legend. By giving an (albeit limited) choice of utility slots unique to that legend to choose from, the attuned legend remains feeling relevant while allowing for the Revenant to be far more adaptable.

I also agree with this. I think having pools of utilities for each legend to pick from is the best of both worlds: thematic and diverse. I really hope Anet decides to go that direction and comes up with some fun utilities in there.

Revenant's starting zone?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Magoslich.6857

Professions do not have their own starting zones. A character’s starting zone is determined by the race that was selected.

Thank you for finally bringing some clarity on this subject. I am however very disappointed in this decision as it completely wrecks lore continuity, I had hoped the devs had an interesting way to introduce a new class without breaking story. It makes no sense for a Revenant to do the same story steps that all other classes did as that class didn’t exist till Rytlock came back from the mist.

Really dropped the ball on this Anet, really wish you took a page out of the Blizzard playbook here because even though GW2 claims to be a Living World WoW handles their lore and story progression better.

Because we totally know all the lore involved in the Revenant and how it is going to be handled. How about waiting until we have all the facts before decrying this as a horrible decision and saying Anet is wrecking the lore? But no, that would be entirely too sensible.

Can we get a new host to POI yet? Someone like Josh or Hugh who are actually comfortable in front of the camera? Is there really nobody better at this than Rubi (who looks like a nice person but is really ill suited to the job)?

Please!?!

I’m really going to have to disagree with you here. I think Rubi is a fantastic host for the type of show that PoI seems to be. Its not a formal feature discussion show. Its a pve oriented informal show that highlights community things as well as whats going on in the game. Could be wrong, but thats the style that seems to be how they are proceeding. And for that, Rubi is doing a great job. I think everyone who is mad at the recent PoI was expecting it to be like the old blog posts during Beta. The ones that gave us in depth looks at features with commentary from folks like Colin. That doesn’t seem to be what PoI is about. The only reason we are seeing HoT stuff in PoI, I think, is because they think it would be cool to give us a little sneak peak.

Full on information is likely going to hit during or after the demo at Pax East. I expect to see a lot more formal style information dumps during that time. I don’t expect to find it on PoI and that is ok. I know people are starved for info right now and its frustrating, believe me, I know. But we can’t take it out on Rubi and her team for not providing what we think she should rather than what she is supposed to be providing.

My 2c is take heavy inspiration from the Mission Packs from Guild Wars 1. Not for all Adventures mind you. But some of my favorite things were in that mission pack, specifically the Togo mission. It was nice to break from the normal pace of the game and do something that thematically fit together and offered fun challenges along the way. I would also like not all Adventures to be timed, but for some to offer better rewards if you solve them in an efficient or cunning manner. I believe it has been stated before that there is some inspiration from Metroid and Castlevania in the Masteries system. I would love to see some of that also appear in Adventures.

Ahh, ok, I enjoy particularly Lightning Hammer, I try to bring the blinds as group utility so I have to be in melee….

Lightning Hammer builds are fantastic, but I feel like its a build that requires a solid group. And solid groups tend to have a guardian. You can’t help your group or kill things if you are dead, so if lightning hammer is getting you killed, maybe its time to either stay with the dagger at slightly longer range or the staff to really stay back?

I can stay farther at ranged if I’m starting to take more hits or if the group doesn’t seem to be stacking might very often. Which weapon set are you trying to use? D/F might also be good if you aren’t already using that as you have many defensive skills built in.

So a bit late to the party here, but I guess a good way of gauging this might be, are we getting a Guild Wars Factions style expansion or an Eye of the North Expansion. This not only gives us a good relative benchmark for size but also pricing. Factions and Nightfall were both, if my memory serves, 50 dollars on release or thereabouts. EOTN was around 30 dollars and required one of the base games.

Factions and Nightfall were stand-alone campaigns, not expansions.

Eh the term Expansion was tossed around a lot when they came out and was later clarified when they released EOTN if I recall. Again, this was awhile ago, but the original logic of what I was suggesting should still be sound no matter which terminology we are applying here.

The arcane utility skills synergize really well with dagger/dagger and help you kill things quick. If you spec into arcane traits as well, something I would really recommend as its a great line, you will find dagger/dagger to be much more effective.

I run at 80 Air 10 for the aura boon trait, earth 20 for faster earth skills and better bleed damage, water 10 for the vuln on arcane skills, 30 in arcane for arcane skill recharge, effect on dodge, vigor on arcane/cantrip cast iirc.

I’m hard to kill and kill pretty quick. Similar setups might work for you, but experiment a bit. Elementalist is a very very versatile profession that can take some work to figure out the right combo for you.

Quit the game for now and return when they add more content. All of these are acceptable answers. You aren’t paying monthly, so there is no reason to stick to the game at all times.

Set Tank and Healer needed for Dungeons

Magoslich.6857

I’ll say this, party makeup and player skill has a larger role in this game than your typical MMO. I’ve been in groups where I go down early in any fight, I’m a dagger/dagger ele. I understand I need to work on my survivability, but for the most part I do alright. Now the other day, I played in a group with a staff ele and 2 guardians. We had a mesmer for 2 of the paths and part of 1 path, but we 4 manned the end of path 3. This was in Sorrow’s Embrace. The dungeon was easy with that group. In fact, we accidently pulled trash packs on a boss fight and didn’t have any trouble handling both. It was a whole different world from playing with people who barely understand their synergies.

So sorry to say it, but it does sound like your group didn’t focus on maximising synergy. Combo fields, combo finishers, carefully used support moves. These are things that win dungeons.

I run D/D with 30 fire, 10 air, and 30 arcane. I enjoy the arcane line because 20% reduction on CD for arcane skills, I use shield, wave, and blast often. I use windborne speed trait to be mobile on the battlefield and get back into the fray if I do die. I use my 30 point, to provide an effect on arcane skill use based on attunement.

I find the last one especially useful. Need to apply a lot of chill to a boss? Use blast and wave on a boss while in water. Immobilize in earth, blind in air, and burning in fire. Its very useful.

@William Fairfield:
That makes some sense, but the room is so small, I couldn’t see any turrets, and it was very difficult to go in and out. Not to mention, iirc he does knockbacks and I recall being thrown into his frosts quite a bit. Is there any way that room could be expanded a bit? I think that would clear up a lot of the difficulty, which feels much harder than Story mode should.

I’m all for learning how to handle an encounter better, but I felt that one didn’t feel intuitive or learnable by observing over the fight.

For a comparison, I felt that Kholer in AC explore was bit better, as even though he is annoying, there is a clear ‘tell’ to his dangerous move and that gave me a better sense of what I was doing right and wrong.

While that is good news, I also feel the need to point out that the story modes I’ve done seem strangely much more difficult. For example, in HotW, I ran with a group that had no problem in explore, we decided to tackle story since most of us hadn’t done it. The boss in the Voice’s room I think it is, who stands in one spot and does AOE frost, seemed very difficult and I couldn’t figure out his trick. I was playing dagger/dagger ele, so that might have contributed, but he seemed much more difficult than say, the Butcher.

Sorry you are having such trouble. Its very frustrating to find broken DEs, as I can also attest, but having spoken with the developers face to face, I can say that they seem pretty earnest about fixing things. I talked to a couple about the bugs and issues, and the general theme was it was working fine in internal testing, but for some reason launch hit them harder than they anticipated. I echo an earlier sentiment, give em a month or two to iron out bugs and try again. I think its just going to take the devs some time to adjust to the different scale and pace from GW1. I recall having some issues with the first game as well, but those got fixed early and I enjoyed the rest of my time.

But I like swapping attunements, I like kiting and as I’m currently doing D/D, I like the very swift hit and run style of gameplay. I’m very mobile.

I just think we could use some small tweaks, some better elites, and maybe some tweaks to conjured weapons to encourage ease of use. Our trait line could use a bit of work as well, but overall I highly enjoy my elementalist.

I would also like the option of doing personal story style missions for my order or for the Pact after completing the overall story. Sort of an explorable mode but for personal story.

Six Elder Dragons not Five * Spoilers *

in Lore

Posted by: Magoslich.6857

Magoslich.6857

The way I see it, the Elder dragons exist to propagate their own version of reality. They are forces of nature, like Narcemus said. They don’t corrupt out of spite or maliciousness, though Zhaitan might due to its nature, but ultimately the Elder Dragons seek purely to shape the world into their image. Kralkatorrik would see all turned to crystal and lightning, Zhaitan desired to rule over a rotting world, and so forth.

On the subject of the 6th dragon, while I find the theory of the Sylvari being minions not that far fetched, I sort of favor the idea of it being a failsafe system from the 5 races who fought the dragons before. We know the Forgotten at least took steps to prevent a resurgence, or at least leave the world with information, by freeing Glint.

I think its not absurd to suggest that the other races may have done the same. The Dwarves had their Great Dwarf failsafe to try and enable them to fight Primordius. Perhaps the Sylvari are a failsafe from the Mursaat or the Seers. I would bet the Jotun failsafe is the Norn, or perhaps the spirits of the Wild. Might be off base there, but I think its a possibility and I would find that a bit more believable than a champion breaking free on its own or with very little help
