Why haven't the azura been destroyed.

well, there are a couple of reasons.

1) The Asura don’t blatantly murder each other any more than any other race. The humans have a corrupt council (Caudecus?), the Charr kill to gain their victim’s rank, and the sons of Svanir literally have a base right in the same map as hoelbrak.

2) The asura personify genius. Getting rid of all asurans means getting rid of a lot of the technological advancements Tyria has made. Suddenly there is no chance we can ever beat the dragons. Here’s just one example: Asura Gates.

3) How exactly do you propose to kill them? They are firing laser cannons while the next most technologically advanced race has normal cannons. GG

So lets say there was a reward at 10k achievement points.

Some people will get it immediately upon patch, some people won’t have enough points yet. But those people can EARN enough points to eventually unlock that reward. People seem to think that if daily achievements continue that the achievement points will spiral out of control. But if the “best” reward was at 15k, why would it matter if some people had 120k points? It wouldn’t matter.

And the people who can only get time each day to log in for an hour or two can still work towards these rewards: through the completion of their daily.

The only difference is people with more time invested in gw2 will get the rewards sooner, which is how it should be.

People also act like they’ve never added more achievements, but they clearly have with each living story. Also, now that achievement rewards are here we might see even MORE achievements put into the game.

It seems to me that the lower you turn your graphics the harder the circles get to see. I don’t know which setting specifically, I’ll try and fiddle with things until I figure it out. =)

Again, this is just another reason why ArenaNet needs to implement hard and normal mode versions. Great dungeon design; first one that just doesn’t simply need full zerk/optimal groups (in fact it encourage tankier/heal/condi removal style builds). I found the last boss quite fun, although it does have the tendancy to bug (we wiped once on last phase and then she perma had defiance on our second attempt, which made pinning her down into a lightning field a bit tough since all of us basically had to stand in it).

These types of encounters really showcase what Anet can do for future 10-12 man raiding… hint hint.

I don’t think we need hard and easy mode dungeons. Sometimes people are bad at videogames. Rather than give them everything for less work because they are bad, it should be “oh well, try and try again until you are good enough.” The game has been out for almost a year now, and plenty of people have finished each and every dungeon.

Maybe we should have an Easy Mode Olympics. Because there is no way I could get a medal in the real olympics, and I think its unfair that some people can while I cant! >.<

Yeah blackgate has mesmers helping out too. I’d like to thank the blackgate mesmers for helping me to get through and get this achievement so that I can now go back to my PvEing and ignoring the PvP aspect of this game completely.

I understand that I won’t be able to get every achievement in the game..but why is there an achievement for getting ALL of the caches as well as one for each individual cache? because this one is the hardest I left it till last, so doing it got me 2 achievements.

“Please Anet, don’t let thiefs stealth when they have under 25% hp. I want free kills and when i go to down them they stealth and then I gotta work for it and find them. Instead, it would be good if they suddenly couldn’t stealth, and maybe were also knocked prone and immobilized.”

You keep disregarding any argument that doesn’t have something immediately to do with “Eles can vapor form into keeps and Thiefs cant” but what you are failing to realize is ANET doesn’t balance 1 feature of a class directly against 1 feature of another class. They balance entire classes against each other.

So lets turn this around. Lets say its my massive zerg in front of the Thief’s gate. Well the thief can just stealth and run through the zerg and likely make it, because any damage done to you will be by complete accident, and if you didnt walk around the AOE on the gate thats your own fault.

Now lets look at ele. Hmm there is a massive zerg on the gate? well I guess i can use mist form and get half way through the zerg followed by a dodge roll and then maybe get lucky and get inside. But for that whole time I AM COMPLETELY VISIBLE and people are free to target me. So i get downed and then use vapor form and I’m inside. phew.

Look at that, we both got inside the keep. Except for the thief it took way less effort and less risk.

This shouldn’t be about comparing downed skills to other classes downed skills. The classes aren’t balanced that way.

However, I really struggle with thieves, and I don’t know what to do about it. They come in and harass me 1v1, and if it looks like I’m about to kill them, they stealth and run away. No matter how much control, aoe, etc I put down on where they stealth, they still manage to get away. Then, when they’re healed up, they come back and do it all again.

This was the complaint people had about D/D Bunker Elementalists, and ANET nerfed them alot, but they just let thief keep getting away with it.

i dont think there is a “best build” right now – especially since any good builds elementalists have are being whack-a-moled with nerfs right now.

I suggest trying all the weapons elementalists can use, seeing which ones you like and playing the game to level 60 or so just trying out things. That way you can form your own opinion about what will work for you.

Not sure how new you are, but if you didnt know: There is no way to screw up a character. Trait points are resettable for cheap, an you will be able to easily get every skill in the game and still have extra skill points =)

i agree with this suggestion too. As a staff ele, right now there isnt so much versatility as there is throwing out all fire spells, then all water spells, then all air spells, then all earth spells, then back to fire etc etc.

I can’t go -“Oh man this is the perfect moment for an immobilize!” switch to Earth- because earth will be on cooldown unless I save it specifically for one of these moments, which may not come. And its the same for all attunements (water healing, air stun/blind etc.) so i guess i have versatility if i sit in fire all day and only swap when there is a perfect opportunity >.<

Guess they should change the elementalist discription on this page? I mean it’s pretty much misinformation at this point. If anything it should say “What they lack in physical toughness they make up for with versatility and quick health regeneration through healing spells” because I’m pretty sure the “massive damage in a single attack” award does not go to us. ;D

the problem with “living in the past” servers is the reason for events is to convince people to keep logging into gw2 continuously. They want you to spend all your free time playing their game. If the events stick around after they are over on a server you can quest to, it would have the opposite effect – for example, instead of logging in every day for the past month for Flame and Frost, i could just log in today and do all the things at once. So there would still have to be some sort of huge incentive to do the events live or every1 will just do them on the special server.

Now imagine trying to play a zerker necro with a heal that heals for about 3k more and applies regen, but also with lower health and no Death Shroud.

You might see why I’m upset about the changes to RtL and Mist Form, which were the primary defensive mechanics for glassy builds. The s/d build I run still works okay, but it’s frustrating that the weak ele builds were nerfed along with the strong ones.

This is the problem.

So we elementalists have a single build that is a bit too powerful. Not in number of kills or any sort of way like that – they can just run away and force a tie better. So they nerf ride the lightning. But ride the lightning was what many other builds relied on to survive at all. So now those D/D glass cannon elementalists (who do the same damage as a non-glass warrior) go : “gee, my build was okay before – but with a 40s cooldown on my escape, I die a lot now. maybe I should bunker up”. This leads to even MORE bunker elementalists.

Maybe next they will nerf some staff skills. I mean theres a whole group of elementalists out there playing as support elementalists, maybe with a staff nerf they too will be converted to the almighty bunker.

I think it seems like there are a lot of people upset with the elementalist because of the sheer amount of people the nerfs affect.

Nobody likes a skill nerf, and a % of those people come to the forums to protest. THe problem is, there is such a low number of viable ele builds – not only because 2 (arguably 3) of our trait lines are pretty worthless but also because we have a low amount of weapons to choose from. With such a low amount of builds a vast number of people use dagger offhand (whether it be with another dagger or a scepter) with D/D being the predominant build. As such, the nerf affects more people which leads to more complaints.

If ANet decided to nerf a skill on warrior 1h sword, there is less complaint because while a lot of people use a 1h sword/ warhorn bleed build, there are also a lot of other builds that are decent endgame (shout healing, greatsword, shield + axe, etc.)

I would really like to see a large number of builds become viable sometime in the future for the elementalist, and while some of the other classes also have a low number of viable builds, I think at this point in time that Elementalist has the lowest number. But I don’t think nerfing things to crap in order to convince people to use other equally crappy things is the right way to achieve that.

what they fail to recognize is that D/D Elementalists using 0/10/0/30/30 are not the only elementalists in the game. S/D can use RtL too. Since D/D Bunker elementalists could already heal with water and survive for a long time in a fight, all this nerf did is encourage more people to go that route, because any build that wasn’t bunker just got even more fragile.

It’s almost like ANet looks at the stats for the game and says “Hmm…we only have 80% of elementalists using the bunker d/d build.. what can we do today to bring the other 20% in line?”

I think that the fire line needs more ways to significantly improve DPS. Its fine that water is the “bunker” line, Arcane is sort of the “mechanic changing” line, but the other 3 lines don’t really do much of anything. Would dumping 30 points in fire vastly improve my dps? no. So people don’t do that because the traits in the fire line aren’t worth their points.

Spreading out the bunker abilites would make the bunker build weaker because no one would be able to trait for all of the bunker abilities – it would take more than 70 points to get to all the traits if they were in different lines. But this isn’t a solution because it breaks the bunker build and doesn’t add anything. What we need are buffs to the fire earth and air lines to make people want to put 30 points into them, and once we have build versatility elementalists will be happy.

Right now it seems like ANet thinks “build versatility” means “make everything equally crappy”.

D/D vs. Staff Discussion

Id say its not just ride the lightning but also other useful skills dagger has like shock and chill auras, flame 3 charge forward instead of backward like the staff version and generally shorter cast times on skills.

to be fair elementalist isn’t the only class who can easily just duck out of a fight whenever they want to. Thieves can just turn invisible when they are losing and casually jog away for example.

There are lots of classes that have an amazing build that seems unkillable. Guardians, Warriors, Theives all have one too. Fortunately, in sPvP its not about killing the other person (which is also why its not balanced around that).

It’s also pretty rude to say “No, you’re wrong” to people trying to give you advice. It works for them – that’s why they are saying it works. Refuting genuine advice in this way really makes your thread come across as just another flame thread. You didn’t really come here for advice, you are just trying to say “WTF ELE’s ARE OP!!!” and disguise it as a question.

I don’t exactly agree with that. A nerf to rtl distance would mean dps eles still keep all their damage, with the only difference that it would make it that much harder to escape so easily when things went south.

dps eles need escapes because they havent bunkered and dont have toughness. If they cant escape as easily, they get burned into the ground. Harder to escape = no more people rolling dps d/d eles and every1 goes bunker >.<

I think the biggest problem with conjured weapons is they have a timer AND charge limit. If i can only use a lightning hammer 25 times, why do those 25 times have to happen in the next minute? just the charge limitation is enough, especially since the cooldown for lightning hammer is only 60 seconds anyway, so if the timer runs out i just summon another one.

the problem with most people’s “suggested” nerf ideas, is they forget that bunker d/d ele is only 1 BUILD. Nerfs to mist form would affect all elementalists, including staff ele’s, and even a nerf to RTL distance would make a dps d/d ele worthless.

Most of these nerfs would force elementalists who aren’t currently using the bunker d/d to use it, and then there would be a lot more bunker eles.

As for the whole “can’t kill them because they run away”.. in sPvP i was under the impression that we were supposed to be capping points? If they ran away, that allows you to cap the point and win the game for your team!

There are lots of classes that have crazy escape abilities. Thief can turn invisible whenever they want. At least a bunker ele cant instagib you because they need points in toughness to survive. Guardian is also able to just walk away from a fight – and they have just as much healing as elementalists, if not more.

Yes, bunker ele can take on 2 other people at once, and thats a problem – but the nerf would have to only affect bunkers and not any other builds, because ele’s other builds are sub-par or balanced at best.

well thats cool. So elementalists have about 2 viable builds (glasscannon, bunker) and one of those is too good so we’ll only have a mediocre bunker and glasscannon left? good job devs. Hey here’s an idea..why not just write elementalists out of the game entirely? I mean if you don’t want anyone to seriously think about creating one, just remove it from the character creation screen. That would make your job way easier!

I think this would make me stop using a shield. Dodge is too key to every aspect of this game, without it we would die. There are things you absolutely need dodge for.

Example : Mob fires a large red circle AoE that hits the ground and ticks a DoT on you. (like the warrior longbow f1). It lasts longer than your dodge immunity, but it doesn’t matter because your dodge has moved you outside the ring. If we instead blocked, we would be immune for a few seconds, and then be on fire.

They should have made it so catapults/ballistas you built/upgraded gives you points when they kill things. That would encourage people to build defenses, AND show a more accurate scoreboard at the end.

Actually i think that Tixx is just trying his best to get all his toys to kids before Wintersday. It’s his workers who are going to have a rebellion. They are probably sabotaging his toys/golem on purpose – because if you talk to them they all hate him, and if you talk to Toxx before he goes haywire, he talks like a normal golem but with – LIBERATION – interspersed.

Complete rewrite of post!

I have been checking the Guildwars Wiki on the subject of mini pets. Every christmas we had/have the same minipets. If they do the same in Guildwars 2 then all we need to do is wait a year.

There have been unique pets but the only ones connected with celebrations were for one off events such as the release of expansions. The only annual pets which changed were those for the Canthan New Year (Cantha had an oriental theme so year of the frog, year of the rat, etc meaning pet frog, pet rat and so on).

Hope that helps. GW2 is not the same game but I suppose we have to wait and see.

The problem with “wait and see” is this event might be the only chance to get these pets. You don’t know they will be back next year. If i wait and see, and then next year’s event is different and these pets are nowhere to be found, then what?

The event will be back next year and you can make 2 more. It is an easy way to recycle material. GW2 Devs put a lot of effort into making this event, it is easier to re-use it for the next 2 years(so everyone can get all 5 minis) and even add more minis to it as rewards than make a whole new event for every wintersday. that being said, they will have both tixx AND introduce some new event/reward every year’s wintersday.

Maybe if an Arena Net dev actually stated this on record, but so far thats really just a guess. For all we know, as soon as this event ends you can never get these pets again, and there will be a completely different event next year.

I was pretty excited for this Tixx the Toymaker event, and i also thought that the extra days in LA were so people could earn all 5 pets if they played every day of the event. But since we can only earn 2/5 through actual gameplay (ie. Why i bought this game) i guess the whole tixx event is just a cash shop advertisement. Give us a taste and make us buy the rest. Maybe A-net should just replace the word “event” with “new items in stock!” because 90% of their events are cash shop promotions.

Okay guys, my suggestion is a notification system that notifies people who send in reports when someone gets banned.

For instance, if you come across a goldseller in game, right now there is very little difference between reporting AND blocking, or just blocking. Yes you get a little
“Thank you for your report” message, but past that I have absolutely no measure of whether my reporting is making a difference or not.

However, if when ANet issued a ban, if an automated response got sent to the chat log of the people who reported that person that said something along the lines of

“(banned persons character name) has been banned. Thank you for helping to make guild wars 2 a better place.”

Then I think as a community people would be brought closer together, and we would have the satisfaction of knowing that ANet is listening to our reports and that we are making a difference.

Going for a healing shout build. What weapons/traits should I use?

Taugrim has a pretty good build centering around this. He calls it his “Captain Hammer” build and its pretty decent in PvE, as well as PvP.

pretty much the idea is to go hammer and mace – both because you can increase their damage with traits in the defense tree, but also because the CC these 2 weapons bring will allow you to nearly stunlock opponents.

In dungeons I switch one of the weapons for a rifle or a greatsword when about to fight a boss because of their CC immunity.

Even with just 30 tactics and 10 discipline ( for the signet mastery trait) you can reduce the cooldown of Signet of Rage to 48 Seconds. Because of the increased boon duration from tactics it lasts 39 seconds. So you get to pop it every 9 seconds, which is amazing because its basically perma-swiftness and might stacks =)

Theres a problem with a condition damage build that I don’t know if you’ve considered or not, but I thought i’d let you know.

The max amount of stacks a monster can have is 25. So 25 Bleeds, 25 Vulnerabilities etc..

The problem arises when you are with a group – if any1 else applies bleeds you will get to 25 fairly quickly and be left with just your power and crits to do damage.

If you are okay with this, then carry on =)

the problem with not concentrating on damage is you need to do alot of damage to get rewards in some of the events (for example, Shatterer).

As such, i use all dps in my first weapons, and then when I ` swap i like to have a shield =)

To each his own though =)

Also, if you want amazing swiftness and already have the full tactics tree and at least 10 Discipline, you can just throw in Signet Mastery and use Signet of Rage as your ultimate(which most people do anyway). It leaves you with 8 seconds or so between uses. =)
