There you go, some probably being an exaggeration honestly “a little” would fit the description better but yea, just for political correctness I’ll stick with some. It has amazing PVE and PVE updates that’s for sure.

I would say don’t worry about PVP anymore than you already have, which is virtually none. This topic is made in small part out of spite since I’m a PVPer but at the same time it’s the honest to god truth. This is the best PVE game there is and probably will be for a long while.

Leave PVP to Wildstar, SMITE, and possibly TESO.

but it’s the exact same concept as the other maps with different audio/names for the capture nodes. That’s enough conquest arenanet it’s very PVEish and PVPers like to fight other players primarily, not out play them on on node captures which promotes turtling.

Using only this mode for every map needs to stop, get creative I don’t care if the next thing isn’t deathmatch but NO MORE CONQUEST. At this point it’s boring as hell. King of the Hill where teams fight over a single node is acceptable, a hill that appears in singles but on random portions of the map.

I watched the new video and you don’t even get to see half the map since players are just running back and forth between the nodes, infact most of the top players would consider your fighting in the middle a “noob” move.

People suck at PvP.

Results:
-No fun.
-No incentive.
-No competition.

Matchmaking won’t help when there’s still only 2 good teams in the game.

Sounds like to convenient of a excuse for a game with poor PVP, I know I don’t suck and never have but I can’t stand SPvP for more than a game or two every few days. Sadly the only PVP alternative to capturing nodes constantly is WvWvW which is capturing nodes and sitting around for 20 mins building stuff and grabbing supplies if you’re in a organized guild.

Its just not fun.
Only one spvp mode and its not fun.

That about sums up my feelings, it was fine when the game was fresh and new even though there was still a tad bit of dissatisfaction in the game mode. Here we are about half a year later and the only additions we have are core features that should’ve been in at release, some in fact were during the beta. Now players are really bored and unhappy, the die hards are running out of alt interest and there never was much in SPVP since you go straight to being as strong as possible on the character.
Forget a E-sports estimation, I’d give this game another half a year before SPvP even becomes fun again.

On a random note, SMITE is a great and skill based game. If you struggle to control action MMOs this probably isn’t for you, but there is always playing something crazy simple like Ymir or Anubis (though Anubis is a slipper slope).

I read this in the dev stream and realized we’ve been mistaken this entire time, it’s not that they won’t update PVP… it’s that they simply cannot. You see this innocent child wished upon a shooting star on a silent night, his wish was that GW2 PVP would never change. His wish was granted.

This is gods work at hand thanks to the pure heart of Esafiel and not even arena net can defy the will of god. But don’t worry while PVP won’t change, leaderboards and spectator mode are still options because… well, they change nothing.

This game is not skill based just because the odds are even gear wise. The next level of being at a disadvantage is build and item set ups that counter yours, this game is all about finding the same tanky/dps build mixture. You can’t out maneuver anyone because all the attacks are basically homing, your auto attack rewards you a ton on most professions, your ability to dodge is very limited unless you spec into it which results in sacrificing other needed aspects of the meta.

There’s really no hope for this game being E-sport or skill based, it’s pretty boring to watch the videos and it’s almost possible to kill someone with your eyes closed.

I can’t blame anyone in here for the pessimistic attitude towards this “update”. My biggest concern is getting past the things he listed so some new content can actually be enjoyed, you know like maybe a DIFFERENT GAME MODE?

you know they cant do everything at once right? and if they are working on these few features, they cant make new modes at the same time… just be patient and wait until one thing is done, then ask another one

You know I didn’t ask them to do everything right? “…getting past the things he listed…” means they need to finish this overhyped update they are planning so they can add something that’s fun.
Who cares about leader boards enough to be willing to wait 4 months for it. It’ll be players winning a contest that no one is competing in at this rate.

The sad part is that despite this probably being a unanimous decision, they won’t do anything to change the fact that GW2 PvP is stale. They will read this topic and say “yea but we just started, things you guys really want will come soon!” and their next content update will be a ingame scoreboard. No new modes, no changes to the current mode, no buffs to unviable builds, no GvG, no changes to the completely unused runes and sigils.

Franky I’ve no hope in the SPvP at this point and WvW with the guild is the only reason im still around. But we can all agree on one thing, the PvE is great. I never played GW1 PvP but it’s not very hard to surpass GW2.

Rune of the Rata Sum. Rune of the Citadel, Rune of the Lich, and Rune of the Grove all have on hit effects actually. I think Rage needs to be added to that last, maybe lower then duration of the fury but it offers nothing but critical damage so it would be a great change to have it activate on attack.

The fury proc’d on hit rather than on you being hit? I ask because I’ve chosen to use them recently with my build and the 10 point fury feat under critical strikes, but the on damage taken proc is killing me. I’ve posted a suggestion for them to change it and was wondering if anyone actually uses this or would use if it the chance were to go through?

Currently Range of Rage is pure Crit Damage and Fury boosts, but the problem is a rune like this will NEVER be placed on a character meant to tank damage yet the fury proc is a 5% chance on taking damage. This needs to be changed to a on hit chance, I’m 15 minutes of fighting I have yet to see it proc because I have 11k HP/2.1k armor and don’t sit around taking a ton of hits.

I would love a explanation as to why these things weren’t top PvP priority in the first place? I don’t think anyone cares for king of the hill above these game modes or even a team deathmatch. It’s debatable which of the two is funner but there’s no doubt in my mind that a death match is needed in any MMORPG’s PVP, or kills should at the very least be a viable way of winning. Age of Conan comes to mind with their capture the flag in which it was possible to win off of kills as long as the score was tied.

Killed 1000s of these things and some don’t even count towards the monthly karka slayer, don’t drop anything, don’t give xp. Reinforcements take 15 mins + alone, this just isn’t fun. Champion Karkas having two hp pools seems like a awful idea.

This is how I view mesmers:
A friend of mine was trying out the game and he asked me what he should play. I told him a mesmer because I figured it’d fit his play style.

His first day, he pve’ed a bit and just did some questing in the starter zone to familiarize himself with the game. The second day he wanted to do some spvp, so I helped him get geared/specced and we started doing hotjoins.

All he was doing was spamming his abilities on everything he ran into, and he was killing virtually everyone except other mesmers and the occasional really good player on another class.

Welcome to every other class in GW2, competitive level is just a matter of doing it with the right build and team.

Maybe if aiming abilities and movement was actually a factor, dodge rolling is the only thing that puts this game in the “skill based” area. That and no gear differences in Spvp.

Flanking strike should have a slightly longer evade animation, the longest of thief abilities, and it needs to be more accurate.

Traps and tricks need more love, scorpion wire and shadow trap are pretty bad.

Bump as a reminder while there may be things that are OP and need nerfing, there are also things that are UP and need buffing. There’s no need to focus on one side of the equation.

ANET we need buffs to the blatantly underused traits and abilities if you are going to keep nerfing us, weakening every single thing until it’s as subpar as our alternative builds is a poor approach.

2 months later and everything mentioned in this post is still relevant and almost spot on save for one or two traits being used more often than predicted.

I’m pretty sure you mean “Increase character model rendering speed” instead of “Nerf thieves invisibility” that just screams ignorance.

Nothing OP about 3 seconds of stealth in which you aren’t being attacked but when it takes 6 extra seconds for someones model to appear because you have 150 people around you I can understand the issue.

The most you hit for was about 4k, I don’t know why you made such a misleading title. You used steal then followed up with the whirlwind attack, you didn’t just hit steal and do 28k to any one person, even then they all stood there and took it not one dodge roll.

This should be titled “look how bad these players were”.

We have a few pesky obstructed bugs and even in clear paths where your target is above you, they seldom actually get pulled down. Dancing dagger and scorpion wire are pretty bad on targets moving away from you.

Executioner all day, only way I would use hidden killer is with a 0 precision build like I use in SPvP.

Now I know beta players were grateful for the boost from a flat 50% crit chance to 100% crit chance change, but let’s face it, you are only going to land ONE hit from stealth and with a crit build a vast majority of the time it’s a critical hit WITHOUT this feat. I know this would be highly debated as to whether or not this actually underpowered but if you can only land one hit from stealth and you’re probably already sitting on 50% crit chance you are much better off with Executioners damage boost. One thing that could make this more appealing is a critical damage boost while in stealth so that the first attack you do which breaks stealth and reveals you hits harder than normal. A 25% critical damage boost on top of 100% crit chance while in stealth seems good and keep in mind it’s only going to work on a single attack.”

Yes, news flash when you hit with a physical attack it breaks stealth and you are revealed for 3 seconds. ONE hit from stealth before you use it again, you don’t get to unleash a fury of attacks with your 100% crit chance and fact is if you’re specced crit you’re most likely at a 50% chance to crit already.
If you are getting this feat rather than the 20% damage boost then you are doing it wrong.

I’m one of those thieves that actually knows how to play the game, im sure you are busy pistol whipping since the heartseeker nerf so you need to cut it out.

The suggestion is a little over the top considering how much damage backstab already does and that the feat doesn’t have a cooldown but that was just my input on it. A 5-10% critical damage boost would be more in line with making it rival executioner.

You need to make a few corrections and also with your stealth heal alone that’s 5 potential conditions removed. As Obtuse mentioned it clears a condition at the start and end of stealth as long as you have 15 points in SA. Maybe even without, not sure about that one..

Mug can crit for upwards of 5k without any special buffs. With the might+signet combo it can literally one shot people. Mug is valuable for any build that plans on doing damage but more so in PvP.

The caltrops may not be great, but they are still better than 33% poison duration and a majority of the feats in trickery. If you think that’s not a good example how about the 10 seconds of might fury and swiftness for everyone near you? That’s 20% more crit for you to work with on your next combo. Either way fact is a lot of our first tier traits are really good.

its not like there’s just this one weak trait. every class has many many weak traits. the weak ones just act as contrast to the strong ones. if everything was strong nothing would feel strong.

Everything should be a good or at the very least a viable option, increased duration on something that never reaches it’s innate duration is useless. We are aiming for balance so if it’s weak it needs to be stronger, very simple. In comparison there will always be something weaker but it needs to still serve a purpose or be capable of shining in a different build other than whatever the cookie cutter is.

All tier 1 traits are weak, and all first tiers of armor runes are weak. This comes by design. It’s easier to balance.

Sorry but this is not the least bit true, mugging could easily be the strongest trait in the power tree. Condition removal in shadow arts, dropping caltorps on dodge in trickery, the list of GREAT tier 1 traits is actually pretty big for the thief.

You really don’t need to waste a trait point to avoid .5 secs of downtime on the 15 point feat. That’s just how I see it but I like to play my characters efficiently. I can’t see a instance where you’d only use auto attack anyways as far as “perma weakness” goes.

It sucks because there are instances where it’s impossible to pinpoint the players cheating, hopefully they can actually track this through some sort of characteristic all the cheaters share in their file.

Placed in the wrong forum? I normally wouldn’t waste a finger muscle responding to a random troll post like this but since you were the first to post I may as well use you for a cheap bump. If you are using 33% poison duration you’re either messing around with random builds or you don’t know what Mugging does. You NEVER need it even with a poison build. If you factor in the amount of time poison lasts, how often you can apply it, and the fact that people only use it for the heal reduction at the moment it’s clear you don’t need a 33% increase.

In 60 seconds how would someone die from poison alone, are you basing this on a player not being able to use his heal or something?
Just cut it out that was a awful troll lol you are bad if you really believe this feat is really helping THAT much. It’s almost pointless like your reply.

So our feat to add 33% poison duration is kind of lackluster due to the amount of condition removals in game and the fact that it will almost never see it’s entire duration play out.

So a couple of things came to mind to back poison a little stronger.

A) Poison intensity increases by 10% as the duration ticks, first tick is 100 damage for example. The second is 110 damage, third is 120 damage and so on. I would cap the damage at 100-150% though.

B) Poison doesn’t remove on down, but instead the duration left is halved.

Of course the first change would probably apply to every class but I wouldn’t mind having it tied into thieves poison duration increase and excluding other poison professions…. wouldn’t mind at all!

Badges of honour drop nerf?

Whatever it is it needs to be changed, leaving players that are a bit behind in the dust with drop rate nerfs seems like awful idea. I’m at about 4.6k kills and since I like to actually contribute in WvW I use my badges to buy siege weapons mostly since the silver/gold prices are a little expensive, especially when you’re still trying to fully exotic.

If I had to guess I’d say I’ve earned around 800 badges which is abysmal is you ask me. Threethings really need to change.

1) Badges need to drop much more often, preferably from player kills and taking objectives.

2) They need to be rewareded upon XP gain for whatever you contributed to, rather than looted from bags.

3) Better drops in WvWvW, especially at 80, I can’t remember the last time I saw a yellow drop in PvP. In a month of playing and thousands of kills I can count the amount of yellows I’ve gotten on one hand. I have never heard of someone finding a exotic.

Think about this ANET, we have to work harder and take the LONGEST walks in WvWvW and right now it’s probably the least rewarding exotic potential’d experience in the game. You were much better off farming a dungeon prepatch and the time it would take to get exotics was insanely quicker than farming WvWvW exotics. Even now farming cursed shore and selling mats is ridiculously faster than WvWvW exotics.

After all my dedication to WvWvW in the first couple of weeks I find myself slowly losing interest and spending most of my time farming cursed shore or titles in SPvP.

Illusionist Achievement/Title

It didn’t help @Quon lol I know how it works just wondering if it actually gave a title, I’ve completed all tiers. I agree with your suggestion but turns out it’s simply not a title like it should be.
Sucks there isn’t a title for illusionist it’s 10x easier than champion illusionist since im having to make a difference as a lone player in the “Zerg Fest”.

So I’ve been spending the last week or so grinding this title out and it doesn’t seem to work. I assume it’s a title you can earn after unlocking the achievement, can’t see why it wouldn’t be.

If it is infact a title and bugged I’d also like to suggest renaming it to something cooler sounding, like “Master of Illusion”.

I just visited thief forum to see what people don’t like about the thief. Seems like quite a lot of complaints. I watched a thief take down me and two of my buddies. When I say “watched” I mean I would have watched if he wasn’t stealthed 75% of the time. It was pathetic. It seems to me thieves are pretty unbeatable. Is it really easy to basically be perma stealthed or does it take a lot pf practice?

It’s mostly a L2P issue, thieves can be cheap but they are usually cheap versus 1 target, not 2. If it was WvW you may have been out geared horribly.
As far as perma stealth he’s actually appearing out of stealth, you just need tab target as soon as you hear a noise or take damage and you’ll be able to hit him for 3 seconds after he appears. The rendering is really bad, even as a Thief it annoys me when this happens since im so squishy. You can get downed without seeing them if you weren’t already aware of their presence. A combination of practice and this knowledge should help, now BACK ON TOPIC!

Lets face it the thief has the weakest downed state in the game

I stopped reading there because it simply isn’t true. Elementalists have the absolute weakest downed state. There’s no way to interrupt finishers and the 3rd downed skill is simply a worse version of thieves’ 2nd downed skill.

Elementalists may not have a good finisher dodge since you need to root, but all those do is save a couple of seconds anyways. Their mist form is much better than our immobile stealth because they can actually heal up from it. I’ve seen a lot of downed Elementalists escape death using this to get back to their zerg.
They may both have bad downed states but I can’t agree that eles is any worse.

Game is dying, so what are you doing to fix the only content you have?

Anyways short term solution, don’t buy golems unless you are absolutely steam rolling a siege area and you have 10 people with supplies near you to build it so you don’t have to crawl to your destination.

Just a L2P issue, obviously you are going the usual berserker thief which means you’re the squishiest thing in the game. Stealing into CnD may or may not be a exploit but according to your logs you never even got mugged.

I think it should just effect weapons to a lesser extent. Often times it’s the only way to kill well placed siege weapons.
