My gaming background: Well, it’s pretty long, have been playing about 100+ different MMORPGs throughout my whole life. But talking about all of them would become a major wall of text so, the one that I did stick to the longest was Guild Wars, World of Warcraft and Aion. I only played WoW because all my friends whom I played GW with left it for WoW, if I didn’t have friends who played WoW I would’ve never touched it. But at least I had some good memories from all that.
How I feel about GW2: I love it, I really do, the gameplay and movement are so connective and smooth, you can almost say it runs like silk. It’s a lot more solo friendly than GW ever was and it has so many unique features like level scaling, sharing gathering nodes, sharing loot, big epic battles, gaining exp from everything, exploring, no trinity and a lot less grind than other MMORPGs. You can almost say it’s perfect!
Oh and another big plus I also have to mention is my favorite voice actor “Troy Baker” as “Logan Thackery”. (fan girl squeee) <3
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t have flaws though. There are a few frustrations for me, like the game not wanting you to make money, almost everything is a money sink. (waypoints cough) Crafting is worthless for making money and the gear you make is useless as well, unless maxed. Not enough variety in weapons and armor graphics. You can pretty much look the same throughout 40 levels.
Dungeons are frustratingly annoying that I am forced to skip them because I don’t feel good enough for them. Last dungeon (Twilight Arbor) I did my group wiped too many times on the last boss that I almost wanted to bash my head in the wall. Not an enjoyable experience at all. I just want to do dungeons for the story, all I’m interested in.
Anywho, that’s my feelings towards GW2, I will keep playing it and have faith in ANet like I have since GW. I’ve been so spoiled of GW2 that I cannot play any other MMORPG. xD
Live long and prosper!
GW2 has been less played on my side because of new games coming out, aka PlanetSide 2. <3
But I do play an hour or two per day at least. I still find that GW2 is the most enjoyable MMORPG right now.
Yeah I agree, but… sometimes you just want to slap people in the face, you know? I really dislike whiners… but yes, I will try better from now on. I apologize.
Nice article, looking forward to the dungeon overhaul, because right now they are not enjoyable and it feels frustrating having to skip them.
Rest sounds good as well, can’t wait for future content! Thanks Arena Net!
I agree, the variety in weapons and armor really lacks on the lower levels. Hope they’ll add more with future expansions.
Yeah, doesn’t feel like that change did much and that makes me sad. :L
I want to know this as well, but I got a feeling it’ll probably take some time.. :L
Sure I kinda miss being able to kill mobs easier to farm loot but, this system is so much better, especially when you want to play with your friends.
I agree with this, I was about to post a thread about this but I found yours so, why bother. I’ll just post here what I wanted to post in my thread.
“Over the Shoulder” Camera Option
What I mean is using your mouse to move your character and the camera, like Third-Person Shooters. (I don’t remember correctly what this mechanic is called but, it doesn’t have to be over the shoulder it can be just behind the character.)
I don’t know if you are familiar with the MMORPG called “RaiderZ” but in RaiderZ they have this mechanic and it makes gameplay so much easier and less painful for your hand.
In Guild Wars 2 I use the right mouse button to both look around the environment AND to target enemies. Problem is, I have to do this ALL THE TIME and my hand gets pretty strained from it not to mention my finger. :L
So, Arena Net, if you can, not saying soon but in the near future please add this as an option, I would be forever greatful!
For me the Henchmen system is what ruined Guild Wars for me. It was nice in the Alpha when they didn’t have that system in place yet. kitten good memories from back then!
Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is amazing, but there’s a lot of things missing imo, but GW2 is still young and I bet in a year or two it’ll be a better title. I don’t really care if they’ll add gear progression or not to GW2, I love hunting for gear (everyone is different). Most of my friends (if not all of them) left GW2 for WoW like they did with GW1 because GW2 (and GW1) didn’t have any character progression which I agree with, the progression is shallow.
What I miss from GW though is the skill capture system and dual class system, those were great!
Yeah, I think they decreased the drop rate a bit too much. :L
Have found one ever since that patch.. -.-
Great post and I agree with everything, GW2 has such great mechanics that it’s difficult to let the game go. I tried playing RaiderZ, I just… couldn’t accept it, everything felt so shallow and not smooth at all. (even though I kinda like their idea of combat)
Anyway, cheers! ^^
I agree, would love to see some underwater content, like being able to walk on the ground, having an underwater city or a dungeon.
Here ya go! I had a great time and it was nice seeing a lot of people zerging it up again. Also, beautiful landscape! :O
Yeah, I wish they could place the Exotic Karma gear NPCs somewhere else, I have enough karma for two pieces but getting there? Well…. good luck. :L
Nice patch! I especially like the whole loot drop increase thing, big thank you to ANet on that!
No no no! Supernatural is like the best freaking show ever! Love it! <3
Patch going smooth now, hope patch notes will arrive soon.
Connection errors all over the place but I guess a lot of people are downloading so, not big surprise. xD
Glad it’s here though!
Wondering that as well, but yeah, games do decay over time, sadly. Running around not seeing anyone in level 60+ zones isn’t really enjoyable, some of those events are quite difficult to solo. :L
Why shouldn’t they use songs from the older game? I mean it’s a waste if no one is going to play the first one anymore anyway. I’m actually really glad they did, brings back a lot of good memories, especially the Lion’s Arch song and Eye of the North song, so good. <3
Also there’s a lot of new songs in the game, feels like I mostly hear the newer ones than the older ones. I do love the song in Divinity Reach.
Hell, I love all the tracks, so good, thanks ANet and Jeremy Soule!
But but but, he has the best voice actor ever in existence. <3
I agree OP! Well said! In this day and age whiners have taken over, someone needs to put a stop to it. BUT no one can except the people themselves, so it’s not the developer ruining games, it’s the community.
Mursaats are awesome! Would love to see them again. <3 DO IT ANET!
How about you all wait for some freaking patch notes? Why would they state EVERY little detail in a blogpost, that’s ridiculous.
Why can’t you people just have patience, wait for the update and THEN post your feedback about it, now you are only exhausting yourselves on speculations, what’s the point. You don’t KNOW ANYTHING about this update except for the few words, ascended gear, lost isle, dungeon, sPvP map.
Agreed, people are way in over their heads. Like always, whiny brats. It’s sad, it really is.
People starting to complain over a patch that isn’t even out yet is pretty absurd in my honest opinion. But there will always be haters and whiners… sadly. It’s getting way out of hand nowadays.
Calm down, take a deep breath and have some patience.
Really? It’s only a one-time event? Well, no need to get hyped over that then. Boring. :L
Thought it was content that was here to stay.
It is here to stay but there is a one time kick off event.
Oh okay, phew was worried there for a sec, thanks. xD

Monk Monk Monk Monk! <3
Doesn’t have to be a healer type, FISTS IN THE FACE!
Or the Ritualist, really miss that one. :<
My opinion on dungeons:
What I would like ANet to do is to make Story Mode less tedious and just make it fun and at least a tad easier similar to WoW’s dungeons.
Keep Explorer Mode as it is. Hell, add another difficulty if people want it to be even harder. But make a mode for the people who aren’t that hard core and just want to have a relaxed adventure. (Missions from GW comes to mind. They were decently challenging and fun)
I just want to do the dungeons for the story, I’m not interested in anything else, but how can I do this when they are so frustrating to go through?
Last dungeon I did was Twilight Arbor, and we managed it fine but the last boss was horrendous. We died so much that I almost wanted to just rage quit, but I kept going anyway. I think we finished it in 2-3 hours. After this I decided to never do a dungeon ever again.
I thought this game was meant to be about fun? The dungeons don’t give me that feeling at all.
I would love to have some more information on the “guesting” system. Choosing a server to play on is hard enough because for some reason my friends picked different servers, (mind blown) but I figured it wouldn’t be a problem since GW2 was suppose to have a “guesting” system, thought it would’ve been implemented by now though. :L
Yeah, I had a lot of friends playing GW2 in the beginning and now they all stopped and some even went back to WoW which I can’t understand why. (pandas? yay? ugh..)
It’s like GW1 all over again. It saddens me to experience that… a second time. shrugs
At least this game is more solo-friendly. So I don’t mind too much. I just hope people will come back at a later point.
I guess some people just need that carrot on their stick. :L
Maybe people just enjoy playing the opposite gender? I was like that once, complaining about it but I mean, why does it bother you so much? It’s not like people are going to start flirting with each other. (I certainly hope not. o0)
I’m a female gamer and I usually play male characters. Why? Because male characters just feel more awesome than female, they usually have the cooler armor, better voice, better structure and of course I’m attracted to men so, why not?
I tried playing female, it didn’t work for me. I made a female norn, oh god the horror. I made a female human but I couldn’t stand that either. It just doesn’t work with me.
It works in a game like Mass Effect or Dragon Age but not in MMORPGs.
Well, I’ve been playing A LOT of MMORPGs throughout my life. But the ones that I’ve stick to to a longer period of time are World of Warcraft (not big surprise) GuildWars, Ragnarok Online and Aion.
I also recently tried Vindictus and Continent of the Ninth and they are simply amazing! After playing those I could never go back to the old generic combat system. The problem with them though is that it’s only instance based. :<
We also have RaiderZ which is a pretty nice game, sadly it doesn’t have the features that GW2 does which makes me wonder if I could go back to it when it releases. But I do love that combat system.
Haha, what? I actually love the staff sounds, it sounds pure evil, like souls suffering from the plains of the underworld, (diablo 2, plains of despair comes to mind) fits perfectly. BUT, the sound should be lowered a bit because it’s higher than any other weapon sound in the game.
I agree with the OP! He really did a good job with the voice over and I love playing my male human characters because of it. ^^
I’m mostly using Greatsword. I’ve been using it way too much though, getting slightly tired of it. Second loadout is Sword/Torch, much love for torch. <3
I enjoy Scepter/Torch as well but… I don’t like the randomness of Smite and I dislike Orb of Wrath, I like the attack speed but it needs some sort of combo chain imo.
I equip the staff when I need to travel long distances or support big groups.
Well…
Minimap/Worldmap, alt + left click lets you mark a personal waypoint. Shift + hold left click lets you draw on the map. Shift + left click lets you ping on the map.
I didn’t know that. Can you create / mark multiple waypoints and what they’re for?
Each person has one personal waypoint they can place on the map.
Tips I can give you is to forget everything you’ve learned about MMOs up until now and go into GW2 with a new mindset. GW2 is different and has a unique style of its own.
If you’re wondering about something always ask in /map or type /wiki to find more information. People are actually friendly and willing to help in this game.
Some basic info that’s good to know:
-Inventory, click on the top right cogwheel icon and choose “Deposit all collectibles” this will remove all your materials and put them in your storage.
-Bank, shared with all your characters.
-Crafting, always try to discover new recipes for more crafting experience.
-Minimap/Worldmap, alt + left click lets you mark a personal waypoint. Shift + hold left click lets you draw on the map. Shift + left click lets you ping on the map. Ctrl + left click on a waypoint will link it to your chat.

Congrats! Definitely deserve it! ^_^
Yes, field of view can make a person feel motion sickness. Which is why every game should have this option. I have no problems with GW2 though since it isn’t as worse as other games. Borderlands for example, I couldn’t stand playing it for long. It was like I had a cardboard box on my head…
But I would love to see the option added.
I went shield/mace in Ascalonian Catacombs and it was awesome, I totally love it. But solo, not so much. xD
I do agree, I only use the staff to travel long distances which is a shame because I want to be support:ish somehow but it’s not really possible because you hardly do any healing or even damage with the staff. :L
I like the Scepter but I do agree that the auto-attack skill needs more combos, I mean other classes have Scepter combo skills but Guardian doesn’t? Pssh. :L
Thank you ANet! I am also a person whom really wants to love the hammer. But that third auto symbol attack just takes way too long and most of the other skills don’t seem as useful (3rd and 5th skill) as say the Greatsword’s skills.
Yeah, I agree, the loot that drops doesn’t often look all that amazing. But do as the above people have said. I can give you a tip to use the Mystic Forge, I’ve found some nice looking stuffs from it. But it’s a gamble though, so be careful. xD
WvW is pretty much a HUGE map with forts and buildings on it, there’s even some PvE content. sPvP maps are small in comparison.
I think there are several WvW maps though, I’m not sure, I’ve only been on my server’s borderline. D:
I guess it was decent, but they should’ve just made a CGI trailer like they did for Guild Wars Prophecies and Guild Wars Factions. They were so amazing!
