Maps are not at all small what game are you playing… Either way, still not what this is about. I’m not trying to get anywhere faster, this is still an issue even if I’m running in a circle. The pixels go by too slowly, I shouldn’t have to give up a combat ability to enjoy walking(which you are required to do to play the game, its not like I can play without moving). No one would be against it, the ones for it would be happy, there’s zero reason that they can’t consider it. Its not really something to argue with players, they’ll either do it or not.

Waypoints are irrelevant, I’m not trying to get places faster I’m just trying to not be bored while walking around. How does the game become imbalanced if everyone is the same X% faster? If I have a 25% increase signet on my necro all the time, how am I not “taking away from” the game using that? All it does is waste something I could better use for combat. I literally cannot play going any slower than that. Even with all the speed buffs available, I still have garbage mobility on top of that in the first place as a necro.

Masterpyro.4310

The default run speed in MMO type games is always always way to slow. I get bored watching myself walk across massive terrains. Based on the size of everything it might be an accurate walk/jog speed but in a game its really boring. I can spend points in increased run speed or blow a utility slot for 25% increase all the time but that’s a waste. I don’t need to be faster than others, we all need a buffed default speed.

Personally I think the 25% buff should be the default, but I know that’s pushing it. I would be happy if we could even get a 10-15% buff in default speed. After using the buff its impossible to go back to not using it, I feel like I’m crippled all the time.

Please look into giving us a little bit more default speed, I need all the traits and utility slots I can get to make my combat better as a necro, not just move at a decent rate that isn’t boring.

Things to make WvW better

in WvW

Masterpyro.4310

With the update to end culling issues coming up at the end of the month, my guild and I have been talking a lot about WvW and what could be better about it, make it more fun, and not be a roflstomp against the server with more people. I’m sure some of these have been discussed but here they are.

Points for kills
This makes a persons individual contribution to the war more important, and can be another number in the equation for determining a servers rank. While sometimes it will still give the larger server an advantage, in my current match up I have noticed that against the much larger server, we are capable of killing at least 10 of theirs per 1 of ours. They have more, but the skill level is much lower. Just because they have more bodies to knock down tower walls should not give them the win. Implementing a kill count would give the team short on players, but higher concentrated skill, a chance.

Go back to 3 day games
Every week on the WvW reset all servers are packed full of people trying to get a lead at the start of the week, only for that enthusiasm to drop as the days go by and the larger server gains their 100k point lead on the other 2. At that point, people pop in to do some dailies but that’s it. Its discouraging to see such a huge lead. A 3 day game allows for play long enough for one team to become dominant before the reset without leaving the losing teams bored or incredibly out-manned for the majority of the week.

Opt-in name showing
There are obvious reasons for why some might not want their name seen. Harassment, getting targeted because of your reputation(good or bad), and the idea that this is a big war, you don’t know your enemies by name. On the other hand, some of us are big boys and don’t care about some 12 year old kitten talking. I would love to be able to build up my reputation in other servers, for them to fear me when they see my name because they know their lives are about to be taken. We could PM congrats on a good 1v1 fight or setup another when it gets interrupted. I think a good way to do this would be by only allowing those who opt-in themselves to see other opt-iners names. There’s always a block feature if there gets to be too much harassment and you can always opt back out.

I’m interested in some other ideas as well. I would just like to see more personal achievement and recognition. It is a big chaotic war between worlds, yes, but I’m still playing a game, and a game that wants to build a big eSport around its PvP. The ideas above are a start.

Return of Investment for MF gears?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MF most definitely does SOMETHING, whether or not that something is 100% what they planned is the question I would ask. Full rare MF set, jewels, food, and banner, i make out with probably 3-5 rares between 1 rotation of shelter/penitent camps. After the one of each though it seems DR kicks in. They need to come up with a game changing loot system, something other than RNG, that can revolutionize this genre. Randomness is stupid.

Currently a lot of the game is built to allow for users of older computers/internet speeds to play the same as someone with a ton of money in a rig and fiber internet. My internet speed and PC components are perfectly capable of keeping track of everyone at all times on a WvW map, no culling needed.

I wouldn’t call that immersion if my character talks to someone I didn’t intend to talk to. It’s like waving at someone and they wave back, but you were actually waving to the person behind them.

I’m not saying they should remove all of them, just don’t put them in the way of the people you know I truly want to interact with.

Or rather what they did with looting and banners. They could increase the range to interact with “useful” npcs and also change the priority of “greeting” and using a vendor/tp rep.

This is something that has bothered me every now and then. It’s not a huge deal but I hope that in the future that a little bit more thought is put into the placement of “extra” npcs that are in the world that do nothing but greet you when activated. It creates some immersion yes, but there are some of them that get in the way of actual functions I want to do. In LA in particular there are at minimum these 3 instances of an npc being to close to a vendor/person I actually want to interact with. (Note I was facing the correct person I wanted at first but at the time of the screenshot it faces me towards the other NPC)

This is the most annoying one, nearly everytime I goto the trading post, this npc is in the way and I end up spamming F 10 times before I can actually open the TP panel.

the chinese, koreans and japanese and a few south east asian nations hardly come up to “a few”, maybe only about 1.5 billion+ people..

I just counted the number of countries listed on wikipedia that celebrated being about 7 of 196 its not to say they are an insignificant amount of people, but Guild Wars was made in America, it just doesn’t make sense to tailor every aspect of the game to every culture. It’s like if I opened a business to sell German flags in the middle of Washington, DC. Doesn’t really make sense lol. You got to keep moving. Also learn to use the X’s to your advantage. You can make X’s by having everyone attack a bunch of moas then do it again with another group after you’ve run off, showing a trail, then double back. Stay ahead of the zerg. We do it sometimes, just to leave them a false trail.

If you get really good at it, you can really annoy people. It’s great. lol

Lol agreed thats fun sometimes but not overall, especially with the changes coming to WvW it will matter to be better. Flipping a camp or 2 every now and then is not effective just annoying.

Guerilla warfare with your friends is always fun. Zergs are laggy anyways.

Again I agree, but not when theres a big flashy X on the map for the zerg to find us the instant we look at one of their NPCs. Zergs are laggy sure but they are still a zerg and will win against a 5 man group any day.

Also, this is not just about WvW, every aspect about the game is boring with less people. Empty zones make the worthwhile events undoable, I am now required to use a third party tool to find a group, and it’s all around discouraging walking around Lions Arch which is supposed to be the most populated zone and see no one as you walk around.

That’s not really possible at this tier, the servers we go against are some of the highest population with big zergs on all 4 maps which can get to anywhere they see a combat symbol on the map faster than a small traveling team can take out the camp. I agree 100% with you that thats what we SHOULD do, however it is not fun at all running across a massive map just to be killed by a zerg and have to make that run again just to die again and eventually be spawn camped.

EDIT: just as a side note, I dont care at all about winning, it doesnt make any difference. But being able to play at all is what I care about.

Server transfers

So my friends and I transferred servers before the update to a high pop server with a decent(but not easy win, about rank 8, 4 higher than we were) ranked WvW server so that we wouldn’t get stuck with an even more empty server than we had. Great for the first week, but it seems now a few days before the update that everyone on our new server jumped ship to another high pop server. So now my friends and I are again in a server losing population, losing every week at WvW and theres just no one around to group for dungeons with (outside of gw2lfg, but those people still arent on our server for the most part).

So what are we supposed to do? Suck it up and pay 1000 gems simply because we didnt get the memo in time(not knowing anyone on the new server yet to tell us otherwise) that everyone was leaving? Doesn’t really seem fair since we made the effort already ahead of time(if we had done it within 7 days before hand we even wouldnt have had the chance to fix it!) I’m all for making money as a business but paid transfers as they are now still don’t ultimately fix the problem. It leaves the poor guys stuck losing and big rich WvW guilds can afford paying for members to transfer if they want to, or even if they dont transfer, they will now and forever stay the top ranked server because everyone is there now.

Trying real hard not to make this a “QQ i didnt get my way” thread but this situation is pretty lame, MMOs are not fun alone.

Agree completely. It’s not 100% their fault, they are trying to change the way we enjoy the game, by get this, enjoying playing, not the reward. But the fact is that is the MMO players mindset, we need rewarded for everything we do, and it’s the gaming industry’s fault that we think that way. It’s too late to change that. Just give us butt loads of good stuff. I know they don’t want to see gold massively inflated, but the players would love that. I want 1000 gold just chillin in my pocket at all times. I dont care if a glob is 100gold to get because of that, i just like big numbers. They do have to be careful though because gold = gems = cashmoney.

But if its true that MF is out : Hurray for that!
Now people in dungeons will wear the right armor!

There isnt going to be a massive dungeon chest every time you kill something and get good loot. It will probably be the size of the loot bags in WvW and it is not an actual chest item, just a different visual for where to pickup your loot.

Also think about it real quick, if something drops a chest because its rarer loot, dontcha think it already decided on what’s inside it, meaning magic find already applied?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Masterpyro.4310

Masterpyro.4310

The majority of reasons people will use guesting for is because of flaws in the way it was designed in the first place.

People will hop over to skip actually doing an event to get onto a server with the reward already up(Balthazar mainly).

Map overflows already offer playing with friends on different servers, the only thing that couldn’t be done was meetup with friends in zones that were not in need of an overflow.

They should have spent more time developing a better automatic layer system based on where your party is so that you are always together instead of making the user conscious of the fact that layers even exist. GuildWars had a better layer system that you could use to switch to any of the 10 layers on each map on the fly.

As for WvW, every single player kill should drop 1 badge of honor. It doesn’t make sense that only some do and some drop multiple and then the next 2 hours or so you don’t get a single one. This is just another annoying RNG aspect added to legendaries.

What is used in the RNG seed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Masterpyro.4310

Masterpyro.4310

This is more of a question for a developer than a community support team member, and I have asked this a few times in some other threads with no answer but if anyone from ANet can answer this in some way that would be great.

I have a friend that is always getting great loot, long after it seems I get hit with DR in an area. Yesterday he bought 50 unidentified dyes and ended up with Abyss, Celestial, and midnight ice, meanwhile I buy 20 and the best I get is midnight purple along with 6 other shades of baby purple and green colors and various other commons. This is the second time hes gotten both Abyss and Celestial, several other Midnight and other rare dyes, the other times were single dye opens and not a bulk opening. This is not the only occurance of this, it has been this way with loot with me and him since the release of the game.

I don’t mean to complain I am just interested in the programming behind the RNG system whether this is something that is truly as random as random can be in a computer system or that his chances could actually be better because something like his username or something specific to his account is used in the seed for the RNG system.

If any developer can answer this it would be greatly appreciated.

All they need to do is copy the template of the consortium chest and load it with the same drop table as the event chest and mail it to everyone that didn’t already loot said chest. I’ll refrain from saying its “easy” but as an indie game developer, that sounds like something that should take a lot less time than has passed so far.

If the problem is that they don’t actually have a log of who has and hasn’t looted, the answer they’re looking for is to give it to everyone as opposed to not giving anyone anything. They are too stingy when it comes to giving players digital items that cost them nothing to give out.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Masterpyro.4310

Masterpyro.4310

When you attempt to make the case that GW2, up until level 80, was always a stat-progression game, you miss the entire point. We were willing to tolerate a relatively easy (or at least realistically attainable) effort to get to max stats as long as that was the end of it. Many of us would just prefer zero leveling and stat progress whatsoever. I’d personally rather just be able to log in, dress up a max character from the get-go, and then go have fun pursuing horizontal content (cosmetics, non-comparable skills, lore, titles, event leaderboards, sideral progression systems, PvP, WvW, etc.). However, I and many others were willing to tolerate vertical progression up to a point because we knew that it would end and we would eventually have maxed out characters to dress out in various costumes, gears, weapons and builds and enjoy Tyria in a leisurely manner. That was the whole thing for us. That GW2 also had amazing graphics and a variety of other revolutionary and evolutionary concepts baked in was icing on the cake – but the most important ingredient by far was the stat cap.

Pyro: I think quote above from the OP might answer your question about why stat cap people didn’t complain about the vertical progression leading up to level 80.

My question is to you is: once you have full Ascended, will you need another tier to grind out? If so, ANET will need to add another tier in order to keep you playing.

After 80 and max stats/perfect cosmetic, I wouldn’t need another tier in order to keep playing. I would start maxing out my alts, or go in and play WvWvW, or go chase 100% map completion, or go help lowbies through dungeons, or go RP, or etc.

Yoshi: Whoa! I’m sorry to have upset you so much.

I was just trying to point out that those who want post 80 stat progression want things one way, and those who don’t want stat progression, want things another way. The problem is that the two ways are mutually exclusive; if one group gets their way, the other group loses out.

We were willing to tolerate a relatively easy (or at least realistically attainable) effort to get to max stats as long as that was the end of it. Many of us would just prefer zero leveling and stat progress whatsoever. I’d personally rather just be able to log in, dress up a max character from the get-go, and then go have fun

This is the part I don’t understand though. He wants no effort to get to the top, hell he’d rather just be the best when he logs in the first time. He doesn’t want a game, he wants a chat room essentially. I want to actually play the game, that’s what I paid for.

I think it should be ok if they still did stat progression if the armor only progressed slightly like ascended did (whatever math thread you read, it is not 10% better, it hardly amounts to any extra dps). What they messed up on is how difficult it is to obtain that. We shouldnt have to grind dungeons, it should be craftable or forgeable with items obtained from that dungeon(and also for sale on the TP). That way you still progress, yet it nearly doesnt matter because its so easy for anyone to do it. This makes both sides happy.

They should also not already contain the extra stats of an upgrade item. There should be an infusion slot and an upgrade slot. Infusion slots should only contain agony stats for the dungeon and no other extra stats.

I think what the OP is mostly getting at is that socializing is not important for the game to function, even while being an MMO. I only have to talk to the 4 people I want to invite to a group to do a dungeon, the rest of the game can be played solo, and bringing along other people just isnt needed, nor do I need them for trading because the trading post is available anywhere. I can have a useless conversation with people if I feel like it sure, but that doesn’t do anything for me in the game, so why bother?

Masterpyro.4310

Yoshihito.5928: I am going to keep this civil because I think this is a good thread, and I don’t want to get it locked up. When you sarcastically say that you “love how stat cap people want everyone to bow to them,” I must ask you if you have ever heard the story about the pot and the kettle? If not, ask google about it.

Masterpyro.4310: Before the Ascended Tier chase was introduced to the game, there was a tonne of stuff to do with your toon post full exotic/ perfect cosmetic; however, none of it had any ability to improve your toon (except for trying to max out all crafting skills maybe). In other words, if you already have full power, and perfect looks, how else can you improve your toon?

What you need to see is that better gear is not a real improvement. You and your new mob opponents grow stronger by the same ratio, so your bigger numbers only serve to give you the illusion of improvement.

Unless we are talking about a stat advantage in WvWvW. If one has stronger gear (full Ascended) than one’s opponents (full Exotic), then one will be able to beat them with less effort. My question here is if you start the race early, and win, how can you take pride in your victory? Its like playing Warhammer 40K with a 2000 point army against someone who is only using a 1800 point army. That 200 points (one extra unit) gives an unfair advantage.

Honestly, if they handled WvWvW gear the same way they handle spvp gear, I think this whole issue would go away (at least it would go away for me anyway.)

Partially, honestly the only thing left for me to do was get the legendary and I probably would have stopped playing after kicking some kitten in wvw with my sweet looking weapon. Now with ascended I have stuff to work for. I agree that their implementation is a bit against their manifesto though. Ascended gear should be higher stats imo, otherwise I wouldn’t bother because i already have the skin I want. But what should be different is how its obtained. It should be craftable with items obtained from fractals dungeons (which will be for sale on the TP for those that dont want to bother). Same as exotic, its just new content for everyone to consume in their own way.

Some people are complaining simply because its a new tier, which doesn’t make sense. They should have been complaining from the beginning that there was any tier higher than level 1 gear if that’s all they cared about. God forbid they add 1 more level, they are allowed to and encouraged to add more content. This game cannot just sit here the way it is and still have people playing 8 years down the road like current WoW or GW1 fans do/did.

I think the biggest reason for this is they refused to include a P2P trade system. No one has to talk to anyone to get what they want, you just goto the menu with all the stuff in one place and click buy.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

So I am on the other side of this argument than the rest of you. I want to try and understand your stance on this because currently, even after reading this thread, it doesn’t make sense to me. I knew the skins I wanted from day 1 and I worked to only get those ones. After I have those, there aren’t any more to get so… horizontal progression over, right? What do you do after that that’s fun, if not do new content to get better gear?

No, no. No stat gear in the gem store, that’s a truly awful idea.

Why not? Some people love to grind ingame, others prefer to grind in RL. Why should the first one have more fun in GW2 than the second?

With that logic, why play guild wars when you could work a second job and still get the same benefits in the game? I’ll just list my preschool “diploma” on my resume, no need to attend harvard. You have to PLAY the game to progress in the game.

The logic is easy. I don’t play the game for benefits or progress. I play the game for fun. Grinding is not fun. I would love to skip this. Why do this upset you so much? You have the time to spend, I have money to spend. We meet with top gear in the game and have fun together.
PS: Please, do not let me be misunderstood. I spend no real money in this game since 13. November and I would hate to see the p2w mechanics here. But buying the ascended gear is not pay-to-win: it don’t give the guy with more money any advantages against the guy with more time.

Like I said before, they purposely designed the store from the get go to where you don’t get to be like that. You play the game for fun yes, but the point is you have fun by doing the content in the intended way. What’s fun about skipping all the content and having digital items that make you an equal to me, someone who spent 450 hours getting to where I am today?

Because it makes absolutely no sense? You can’t change yourself from being a white male to a walking tree in real life, how does that make any sense to bring that into this world? The only game I play that I can see that making sense in is Eve because I could just create a new clone with modified dna, but this game is not in that reality. Magic is a dumb excuse too. You simply can’t come up with any logical lore for that to be aloud. It takes like a week to get to 80 on a new character, just make another one. It wasn’t time wasted, you played a different path of the story. Now play another.

I never played WoW (Well, level 7 in the trial if that counts, hated it), but I am curious as to what you are referring to specifically, I feel like playing devils advocate here as I assume you didn’t make a post intending to only get people agreeing with you.
