Nodes randomize after each server reset and, I believe, reset after 6 hours is what I have read. They will stay in that location until the next reset I believe.

It in no way hurts the game economy and they aren’t even “ahead” of you because achievement points don’t matter. Spend your time doing something that matters like getting an armor set or your legendary. The monthly should honestly work as it is, as the reward is garbage already anyway, and I was able to complete it within the first 3 days, what am I supposed to accomplish the rest of the month?

You sound like the kind of kid who’s toy broke and to make it fair mommy has to break your little sisters toy too. You are welcome to do it again as well if you really want that extra point, even knowing the reward is crap.

We need to adjust the PC chatter frequency so certain lines play less often. It’s on our to-do list.

While you’re at it, how about adding an option to disable it? No offense, I love the game, but I don’t really appreciate hearing these lines ever.

We’ve talked about either implementing a frequency slider or giving people the option to mute player chatter, but it all comes down to programming and UI resources. A few of us wanted it in for ship, but too many higher priority issues needed attention.

So now that the game is shipped, will this be prioritized? It seems like a small thing to fix.

If the fix is simply adding the slider, then it should be no problem. However the issue is more likely that a lot of these voices you hear are categorized under a different slider. They would have to go through every sound file and re-categorize it for the new slider, and then also program that.

Never had a single technical issue with my game, aside from the login server outage last night, but that was everyone and not a huge deal, stuff happens. Try understanding what causes technical problems, and report game mechanic issues so that they can be fixed if they are valid issues and not just your own stupid opinion on how they should make their game.

Try crafting or completing a level 80 dungeon. After level 250-300 crafting, you can get it by just going through a set of mats pretty quick.

A better option would be to find people you like playing with in your guild, RL, or just in chat that are actually good and reliable people. MMOs are meant to be social, get to know some people for more than just the duration of a dungeon.

Not a bad idea, having a little test for reported botters, however: A lot of bots, to me at least, look like they have hacked clients as well. Those that can teleport to random mobs without a skill being used look to me like a custom client that can send out modified location packets to the server. It would only be a matter of time that these same clients could return an automatic pass to whatever is being asked of them, or at the least being able to programmatically determine the correct answer, instead of having to find it on screen.

I think first a way to thwart hacked clients is necessary. Then see what needs done about it after that.

A valid point. Maybe an “I give up” NPC (the guy at the door?) which will give you tokens for the bosses you did defeat, and then locking you out from the dungeon for an hour so it cannot be abused.

Most of these have been assessed in tonights update, however I’m sure something will get stuck again. Leaving these to be fixed a week later is a bit too long. If something can be fixed in a day, it should be patched asap, leaving weekly patches for bigger content updates.

I will say you have a valid argument, so I am not completely bashing your opinion, however I have this to say:

1) I fully believe that the wall jump “exploit” was, at one point at least, intentionally built to get over. The rock, tree, and opening with no invisible wall, were just placed too perfectly to have been just a simple oversight. Maybe it was to be removed before launch, but someone put it there to be used somehow. That brings me to…

2) Punishments should never be given for “exploiting” developer oversight. Especially when jump puzzles are a part of the game, they are teaching us that we should look for such things as there may be rewards on the other side. In this case the reward happened to be dungeon tokens. These dungeon “exploits” also do not break the economy or anything like the karma vendor exploit did. Tokens and acquired loot are untradeable, and thus quarantined to the individual.

3) I haven’t done a dungeon yet since the update, but I believe it may be easier to get tokens now. 20 at the end + 40 bonus for the first completion each day is 60 just on your first run through, on the easiest path. That’s 7.5 runs using the “exploit”, and this way, you have a reason to complete and enjoy the content.

Give it time to see how it works, I believe they are headed in the right direction with this one.

I wanted to give some props to the creator of this event. It’s the most challenging thing I have done since the fire elemental event, and even more fun since I wasn’t being one-shotted the whole time. Some spoilers included so I’ll block the rest out. But thanks for creating this one


I love how much team work is required to get this done right. A few people aren’t enough to beat the whole thing. Even if they can finish one part, the seals will be retaken before they even complete the next one. That said, too many people at one seal will make it incredibly hard to finish, and will also reset once they all leave to go to the next. Small teams need to be able to either do them all at once, or a large group needs to split off and leave some behind to defend as the group goes on. And even though I wasn’t there with my guild, the people of the world were smart enough to know what to do, or at least follow basic orders to get it done right.

One thing I would change about this event though is at the canon seal (bottom right one), the NPCs that are supposed to be calibrating this machine, however, they spend most of their time fighting mobs. This was exceptionally difficult with a huge group causing the event to be scaled to the max, hordes of abominations with stacks on stacks on stacks of frenzy dominating the group. The only reason we finished this one was a ton of people got discouraged and went else where, causing the event to be scaled down again and then taken care of by a smaller team. I would offer a suggestion to have the NPCs not enter combat. They are, or at least one of them is, scientists after all. Let one of them calibrate the machine while the rest either help him or help us defend.

Please do a mass banning or wuspnsion and take the exploiters gear and drops or just roll back their characters 6 days.

That would onlykitten a ton of people off. They didn’t rob a bank, they found an oversight of the developers. Most of these fixes could be fixed within minutes but they are choosing to wait and release a patch for a lot of bugs at one time, which is again, not the players fault. Hopefully they understand this and don’t permaban people that paid money for their game.

I’m confused how some of these places are created without being noticed. In the Arah Warden wall jump, the rocks and trees are positioned just perfectly to make the jump. There’s no reason for any of that stuff to be there if not for the purpose of getting over the wall…

Also don’t see how getting untradeable tokens/gear is damaging to the economy. Only the drops from running such dungeons over and over again hurt the economy, and they nerfed the hell out of that already.

My proposed fix to dungeons: Don’t kill rewards to where its useless to run it. I need a TON of tokens, I have to grind it, there’s no way around that. But don’t reset them until it is complete. If a team ragequits mid dungeon, forfit the tokens you gained and let them do run it again with a different team or something. Also, no 1 hours wait to reset either, if im in the mood to do it again, let me do it.

This is still an issue on Darkhaven server. Hopefully tonights update fixes it..

I think resetting events if the person isn’t attacked for X amount of time could help a lot of these bugged events.

Go some ruined ore while mining ori with an ori pick while being attacked by quaggan. I’d rather I just not be allowed to mine than ruining that whole node for me for x many hours. Guess il just kill the 10 quaggan and 4 krait that guard that one node. You’d think it was a rich vein or something.

Im starting a new character and would like to get through the low level stuff quickly to be on par with the rest of my group. Already played the content so i dont care to do it again slowly. I have a friend thats 80 in my group but so far has not been able to join 3 story quests in a row. Is there a level restriction in place for this?

No option to reply.. But no, soley agreeing with their design is not my reason for saying that, I say that because every thread concerning this issue has someone making that point that they should just do tournys, when clearly thats not a solution people are finding appropriate.

Its not about what you find is not a big deal. It’s a big deal to me. Not just the points I lost, but the victory I deserved. And then its just rubbed in my face because I helped the other team beat myself now.

Autobalance works in FPS games because they last 15-20 minutes or so. not just 5 minutes. It’s such a small amount of time to play, there is no reason to change teams.

If it can’t be removed then at least make the games first to 2000. That way when I get switched il at least have plenty of time to make a comeback. When I was swapped it was literally completely impossible for us to win, short of the other team sitting in spawn.

I haven’t changed my position. The change is that it should be removed. Your solution is fine, unless the game ends quickly, that’s just no fun for anyone. And just ending the game takes away kills people on any team could earn within that time.

No one loses anything for losing, there’s no reason to try and stop a team from losing by taking someone from the winning team to help them. As someone that gets switched over, I refuse to help that team anyway. They don’t deserve a win after all I did to make sure they could not.

It’s part of the game that can and should be changed though. Who says a casual game has to be remade? The game shoudl start, it should play out, and then it should end when there is a winner, and a new game should begin. Tough luck if pugs rage quit, just wait for a new game 2 minutes later.

Tournaments are not the solution, its a copout answer from a fanboi that thinks ANet can do no wrong. I understand maybe fixing teams if people leave under 100 points, but when im 30 points from the win don’t take that from me. I just started sPvP so 30 glory is fantastic. When im like 50 or so it wouldn’t be a big deal. But just starting out with my friends, we don’t have a team all the time. Most of my friends are in school and working so I have to do regular games most of the time.

Tournaments are NOT the answer to autobalance issues. I should not have my win stolen from me 30 points away from finishing a game because the game feels its unfair. There’s no reason the losing team can’t suck it up until the next match when teams are remade. They dont lose anything for losing, but I lose the win I earned by being switched randomly.

I was in a match when i wrote the initial post, edited with more content. I’m sure there are a ton of threads but here’s one more for emphasis.

There is no reason for an autobalance in a game that lasts about 5-7 minutes. If the game loses some players, tough luck, finish the game off and start a new one in 1 minute. Don’t punish me because i did well and switch me at the last second so i dont get my win.

Yes please limit leaves and rejoins. People leave mid game because they suck and then that game gets screwed by an autobalance. No more joins for 10 minutes if you leave a game.

To help with targeting, bind a key to the “Lock autotarget” option in settings.

Targeting works like this: If you cast a spell or just happen to gain a target by looking at an enemy, you will have an “auto target”. If you look at a different enemy or something, you will lose that target and target something else.

A “locked target”, which you get by either tabbing to the target manually or pressing the lock autotarget key on an autotarget, will stay your target until you change it or kill it.

Mesmer illusion abilities cause you to lose targets. This is required to make them work, if you could just perma target them as they made clones their whole mechanic would be useless and no fun for the player.

They had nightly updates the first 3 weeks of game release and have been doing at least 1 each week since then as well. A lot of fixes are coming tonight. I’d find the server you want to be in with friends/family/guildies before you get locked into one.

I don’t think macros are as much of an issue as accomplishing stuff while AFK, or botting.

I bought a Razer MMO keyboard with extra programmable buttons for a reason, something that simply holds down your mouse button shouldn’t be an issue. It is annoying doing it yourself.

Switching servers was never meant to be a fix for bugged skill points. In fact they were only every free to help people get in the correct servers with friends. Soon they will charge gems to transfer.
They will fixed bugged skill points as soon as they can.

Alright I was winning a match against a really decent team (some of my guildies) about 430 to 250, and at this time, 70 points away from the win, it switches me to their team because a few of their baddies quit, and obviously I end up losing because we were now down nearly 200 points less than a minute before the end. That’s the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Just wait til the next game to remake the teams, they are short enough and they dont lose anything for losing, but i lose the win I earned because the game felt it wasn’t fair.

TL:DR: Dont do it. just dont. stupid.

While I do agree with you to some extent…I don’t think this is exactly right.

I remember one time I logged on at 8 am EST and saw a botter in gandarren fields (sp) farming small scales or something. That’s usually where I go to farm them when I need them. How did I know he was botting? He stood in the center of a shallow water area, and would run to the monster when it spawned, kill it, and run back to the exact same spot every time. That is clearly not human behavior. I watched him for 10 minutes and sent him a few tells (while competing for kills). No response, same pattern. I then reported him and left that area.

I come back after about…10 hours or so…same bot…same spot…same pattern.

Now, I know Anet has a lot on their plate right now, so I don’t really blame them all that much. Between all the bugs and all the connection issues, their team is probably working almost 24/7 trying to get things up and running for everyone. Delay is normal.

However…how many small scales do you think that bot made in that 10 hour period? How much gold? My guess would be a lot.

The problem is because rarer mats are in such high demand (people level faster than they can get them), that all someone has to do is bot and bam, they make a lot of money. That makes gold selling in GW2 even easier than in other games.

While I agree there would be no bots if people didn’t buy gold using real life money…if the bots weren’t there, there would be no gold to sell. Or at least that would seriously cut down on their profits.

Botting has just gotten out of control from what I’ve seen in the lower level areas. On my ranger I saw a group of 3 rangers, with random names like “sshhr” all with the same pets and same gear running around almost stacked on one another just using the same abilities at the same time. I don’t want to sound cold but I mean how long does it take for that kind of behavior to be seen as botting if 20-30 people (doing events around them) all report them around the same time.

If they are still in the same spot 10 hours later they are probably getting junk if any drops at all. Anti-bot code.

I’d have to agree with you there. Im glad I have the change to upgrade but it should be something I have to buy gems with real money to get. I actually purposely got the regular version so i could spend the $20 i saved in the store(though they took too long to release and i spent that $20 on pizza :P)

HoN has a system where you earn silver in game but you have to buy gold. Something that cost say 250g is like 1000 silver, and some items are premium that you can only buy with gold. Delux version is one thing that should work like that.

That’s a good idea, however I have seen cases where people with innapproriate names are suddenly changed to something random. You would never be able to login again cause you’d have no idea what your name was.

Also, Mike. Are you guys permanently black listing those IPs as you see them or waiting til they try all their passwords to add to your new password blacklist? I think taking out their botnets would be more effective than building a library of passwords that I hope to god you arent saving in plain text or that any of your employees can ever read

Waypoint cost on death

I am still seeing devs say that the nearest waypoint on death is supposed to be free, but I am still finding that that is not the case. Nearest waypoints for me at 80 are always around 1s39c (or contested). Eventually I wont be able to rez at all at this rate.

Usually it goes something like this:

- Joe Example signs up for SketchyWebsite.com and uses his “standard” password
– SketchyWebsite gets hacked or otherwise leaks their password data
– Hackers take this and recover Joe’s “standard” password
– They then may sell this data to any number of additional parties
– Someone decides to attack GW2, and acquires a large number of stolen account passwords
– They then proceed to use every single one of them to see if any line up with a valid account

The thing to realize is that there is a very active black market for stolen account information. The original leak may have nothing to do with video games at all; but the accounts are valuable, and the data can change hands any number of times before it finds its way to someone who wants to specifically hit GW2 (or any other online service).

Simple fix: Don’t let them try more than X amount of logins within Y amount of time from 1 IP

I think current stealth skills should have at least 1-2 seconds added to them (talking from a mesmer perspective) 3-4 seconds is not enough to achieve anything. The only time I really hate stealth is when it is used to run away from a fight they someone entered and realized that they couldn’t handle it. Other times I can generally still hit them without seeing them.

These are some ideas I have about security for the game. One day I dream of a game that has zero gold seller spam and zero hacked accounts. This is a really significant challenge, but I believe it possible one day with the right methods implemented.

Idea #1
Limit amount of logins from 1 IP to 5-10 attempts within 15 minutes. This severally limits how many random accounts a spammer can attempt to crack and makes scanning a list of stolen accounts nearly impossible without a huge botnet.

Idea #2
Add an optional button to the login client(after account login) that generates an encrypted private key and stores it on that user’s desktop with a public key that is attached to the players account. If such a key exists on their account, then make it completely impossible by any method at all to login to that account without that key or a call to support. Kinda like an SSH private key.

Idea #3
Region locking. Let me enable an option to disable my account outside of my own country, or even state if available. I’m never going to china and needing to play Guild Wars there, so my game should not work from there.

Idea #4
Rift had something called Coin Lock that was fairly useful. It made it so you could earn coin, but in no way use it without entering a code from your email or authenticater (or something similar). If it’s not patented, something like this would be great.

Will add more if I come up with more. I think some of these are a bit over the top, but at the same time couldn’t hurt. Unless you are really bad at entering your password or travel a lot, none of these should prevent a legitimate user from accessing their own account easily.

Bot killing techniques

Idea #1
Some bots seem to have hacked clients that can send impossible movements to jump around to mobs and kill them. Have some way of knowing on the server side that says, hey he moved too far, and automatically kick them from the server. Flag them for further investigation. Obviously if implemented be very careful of false positives like with legitmate player teleport skills especially mesmer portal/blink.

I’d like to confirm that I received 24 silver from TP while it was still down, however I believe I’m still down nearly 80 silver or more still.
