The player base for pvp is actually large if we count every single person playing, but since everyone is spread out among divisions each one is fairly small giving us long queue times. There really isn’t a solution to fix this other than the game gaining more exposure to increase the player base. Even if adding more restrictions makes for an overall healthier pvp game mode it’s going to increase the queue time significantly more and do more harm than good.

The time anet announced that premades would never face 5x soloqers was more or less damage control from all the complaint threads to keep everyone somewhat happy even after they publicly told us it only accounts for less than 1% of all matches.

I believe there’s not much to do to fix pvp other than wait for their next expansion.

Out of curiosity, how do you find this information out. I know you wont say details, but it makes me question my privacy.

It’s very easy to find out. First, you look at the login history. Second, check the keybinds. Third, check the playstyle/build (and things like the order of utility slots). Finally, observe the game and deliver the ban hammer.

I thought maybe it was a bit more involved, because it was so high profile. I hope it was, kind of.

It gets fairly complicated. All you need to know is that when we send keystrokes to the game we are sending data to anets servers and for us to see other people doing things in game those servers send data to us. In order for our devices to communicate both of them need to know where to send data to – aka a geographical location.

Before all that it has to go through our routers which does all the framing and packetizing stuff (the steps are kind of like sending mail irl). The key thing is that this sends the general public ip, and from there you get the port (specifying which device) and maybe even the mech id of which device.

All-in-all, there are lots of stand alone unique identifiers sent along with the packets. What they most likely saw was player A was playing in BC, then started playing in Alberta and then back to BC. It could be looked into with more detail, but that’s already pretty obvious.

I have already seen a necro running around with Nevermore…not a surprise really to “gate” it.

That’s a lie as several of the objectives in the collection achievement for Nevermore IV are bugged preventing players going for nevermore from their legendary specific gift.

This achievement has been bugging me:

Blessed by Raven Hint: Take your Raven egg to the Ravenbeak Shrine in Lornar’s Pass to gain the blessing of Raven.

And is preventing me from getting to the next step, “The Hatchling”. I feel like I’m missing something incredibly obvious as I do not see anyone else posting that they have trouble with it.

After putting the egg in the raven roost I get the achievement sound of completion, but when I look at the collection it’s still grayed out. There is no option to remove the egg, or purchase anything new from the heart and there is no egg in my inventory.

I hope I’m just missing something really obvious.

A few things I found odd or could be improved on your build.

Since Strength sigil now provides 2stacks of might instead of 3 and you’re swapping a lot less for overloads it makes the sigil very weak and inefficient to be used with your build.

Marauder amulet provides main stat power and crit chance (really high crit chance for an amulet). Bonus crit chance in air attunement only applies while in air which is bad in a normal FA build, but makes a tiny bit of sense for overloading. The shocking aura trait is still much better for surviving and provides dmg. You also chose sigil of accuracy which would also provide minimal benefits when you already have high crit chance. Higher crit chance does not provide a marginally larger dps increase.

You took fury + swiftness on auras even though you’re only running one shout that provides an aura to maintain the fury upkeep on the air overload. So you’re getting very little fury on your overload.

To top it off you have no invul and very little protection uptime on an already squishy build. Warhorn has terrible synergy with a scepter and no instant cast skills to aid in the overload. You’d also want blink no matter what variant of FA you play in pvp. It’s mobility, an escape, burst, burst set up, you can blink through walls and cliffs and securing stomps.

If you had to choose between arcana and water only, your best bet is arcana. Especially because flat stats have been removed from trait lines.

A lot has changed for returning players. It’s definitely worth looking into old patch notes and keep up to date. It’ll help you with your builds.

Launcher wont launch

Hi,

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I’ve played gw2 since release nearly everyday in windowed mode.

I was logged out for afking too long in a map and accidentally maximized gw2 double clicking the window title bar to maximize(fullscreen gw2). After that the screen froze. I restarted my comp, launched gw2 and after hitting “play” in the launcher a number of problems show up:

1) The window title bar of gw2 would flicker and I’d still be able to see my desktop.
2) The cursor begins to move more slowly and stutter.
3) I am unable to interact with other files and applications when alt tabbing/hitting the windows key/alt ctrl delete.
4) With this problem I am unable to take a screenshot

The background game music for the character select page will still play, but there is no screen to interact with (I still see my desktop/background applications). Spamming double click in the area to select a character did nothing either.

Things I’ve tried in this order:
1) deleting the local.dat file and using the " -repair" line.
2) uninstalling and reinstalling gw2 completely.
3) using the " -windows" line.
4) running a virus scan and then launching gw2

I use Windows XP, 32bit OS
and have not installed any new programs in the past few months.

oh i always assumed max was a little over 1min with skills

either way it’s very nice for map completion and possible really nice for new players

EDIT: some extra facts. There is no ICD on the food. I had 10% boon duration from traits, not sure if that matters.

EDIT2: Just double checked with 0% boon duration and still get 5mins 30s.

I think bowing is actually a lot worse b/c players may:

break out of the bow early and initiate first

initiate during someone elses bow

bow out of sync and initiate first

bow too close and initiate first

This is a common problem among players that face off against strangers especially during their first few duels; however, if you’re dueling a friend or well known player for extended periods of time then there should be no problem if their indication of being ready is typing R, bowing, or autoattacking from out of range. If one person has an issue with that then speak up instead of mentioning it 2hrs later and getting upset about it.

There are a number of assumptions you have to make in order for stealth to “not be too strong”.

1) Your opponents class, amulet/stats and weapon set dictates whether or not they can counter pressure or “burst” the thief back. eg. warriors have some of the most telegraphed skills making it difficult to land large hits and definitely depending on ANY classes spec may not deal much at all in a 3s debuff reveal period.

2) “You can do whatever the thief is doing in stealth” is completely void. If they’re healing the thief better interupt the opponents heal with steal or headshot. And what’s stopping the thief from doing another backstab if their opponent is low enough instead of healing. Once again this is all dependent on the opponents class and build; however, the opening strike still means an advantage none-the-less against opposing squishies/hybrids.

3) So, don’t get hit by CnD and don’t let them blast/leap in a smoke field…? Easier said than done.

I’m not saying your tips are wrong; however, stealth needs a lot of tweaking or even a complete rework to be considered balanced. Coordinating a burst with top tier players or even friends (ie. teef/mes) with voice communication is pretty much guaranteed kills on bunkers without the opponent being able to react in time to invul. Knowing it’s coming isn’t an option either with LoS or stacking stealth. No one likes that unless they’re the ones doing it.

it’s not that hard a matchup unless the thief in question is afk or literally 1st time playing game.

It’s not a hard matchup if you’re in a dueling server with nearly all your cds up, and the additional rules that the enemy isn’t allowed to reset the fight or fight in areas that aren’t completely open field or the fact that you know the engagement is going to be a 1v1; however, in a tpvp mu that’s not the case.

Shnicky is a great ele, but the teef vs ele mu does not favor s/f ele on equal skill caliber.

It’s a projectile finisher, the skill then allows you to activate a new skill that has a leap finisher after it has connected on an enemy. If it does not connect, you do not have access to the leap.

Like nearly all projectiles it can be avoided by moving left and right without dodging.

You could stop all movement and the ai will position the angled shot for you, but if you are moving, you limit the possible range where it can actually hit.

you’re really not getting any benefit from the reworked blinding ashes other than the burn from clensing fire. EA would be a much better fit or even staff 3 for the blinding ashes.

where are your inputs and thoughts?

what about rangers protect me(6s), and signet of stone(6s), and warriors beserker stance (10s), two enduring pains (10s), and mesmer distortion(4s)?

what about the perma dodges, blocks, elixerS, renewed focus, stealth, teleports, blind spam and base armor/hp differences from classes?

every class has multiple forms of mitigating damage, and although OF is decent, just looking at the first list shows its not the best form of invul.

I’d just go fresh air zerk s/f and shove on an IB depending on the map and classes. I see the benefit of the shocking aura, but you could just instantly 100-0 most classes going power / hybridish, or even tanky guards if you get them before they pop any dmg mitigation / wait for protection to end. I also get the whole counter stunlocking thing, but most of s/f is instant so you could still burst or invul when stunned and with those two options still available I wouldn’t go for d/d shocking aura then. In addition, I feel like you’re spreading yourself thin trying to go into a dmg trait line and bunkerish almost as if running an old cele amulet or even full cele in wvw right now. Trying to do both dmg and bunk often doesn’t work, but the meta d/d comes maybe a tiny bit close to that after might stacks are up. I’ve tried exactly what you posted, but prepatch celestial rework and didn’t like it.

Anyways, making something meta is tough, even s/f burst isn’t really meta. GL with your build though.

@OP You get the gist of what to do and not to do. You understand that glass s/f is much more reliable in small scale fights as opposed to glass staff. But what I feel you did not connect is that wvw is based around large scale fights. That in itself makes the build fall seemingly out of place and unfortunately poor in comparison to a staff.

I suggest you try glass staff out and get out of the habit of the zerg mentality. That’ll give you better positioning and less of the need to have a guard in your party or a party at all.

I hope you can view this as constructive criticism and not salt as glass is not considered meta in wvw and thus hard to be taken seriously from either standpoint.

You also appear to not be playing against good players. Any player worth his stuff knows that in a team fight elementalists are at the top of the list of who to focus first. This happens to such a degree that oftentimes you end up with a thief dedicated to killing you before you can do any damage, which is really easy unless you go full-on bunker and then you aren’t threatening anyway.

I played against a rq46 guardian and rq 42 thief in a duel and won.

So does that mean they are not skilled?

gw2 has been out for over a year and a half, so unfortunately rank means little to nothing. Duels are also a difficult means of accurately measuring “skill” because every and all builds can be countered.

As to why eles are poor in pvp? There are a lot of reasons.

Low hp, low base armor is one most have already stated. But the game revolves around 5v5 and focus’ around capping points. So duels really don’t mean too much in tpvp. Furthermore, the 5v5 emphasizes team fights making ele even more vulnerable with their base low hp/armor.

Another big thing is cooldowns. This is difficult to go into detail, but there are a couple of obvious tells like armor of earth’s 90s cd for 6s of stability and protection in contrast to balanced stance: 40s cd for 8s stab and swiftness. I’d say firegrab, cleansing wave, updraft, rtl(miss), and earthquake need a considerable cdr. There is not much an ele has in a sustained fight and that is exactly what will happen in tpvp matches as players stream in.

And then we have specific roles. People above me have already mentioned this as well, 1-2 other classes can already fill X role much more efficiently than an ele can and more reliably.

Damage coefficients.

Lack of stats.

Traits.

I’m sure I am missing a couple things out and going into detail for everything would take up pages. All-in-all, the majority of underlying problems can all be solved with some form of free additional cdr without having to go 20points deep into X tree and the waste of a major trait. This will indirectly improve ele sustain and dps and maybe the ability to be the go-to-choice for a specific role.

It’s a traditional 0/10/0/30/30 d/d build. The big variation is in the armor with some sort of celestial/zerk or valk/magi/soldier/zerk mix, it’s probably the latter. Sigil of battle and most likely accuracy.

Oh my, there must be lots of trolls in this thread. Lets recap on quickenss with this link:

All activate-able quickness utilities/elites range from 50s upwards to 210s and the shortest trait specific one is ranger pet swap (I think it’s 20s when pet is alive, 40s if dead and must be traited). Seeing as how this is not a trait related elite and incredibly easy to manage/line up an opening combo, it will definitely not be anywhere close to 10s and more along the lines of 30-40seconds to align with every other quickness related ability; especially if anyone looks back to how long the cds are on any other quickness ability linked in the wiki.

I’d love to see a lower ICD than +30s, but you’d have to be a fool to believe it would go any lower. It’s as clear as day when you extrapolate and look at the current quickness ability list that the CD’s are meant to be high and would inversely mean this elites ICD will be too.

No, I’m not suggesting that gw2 is p2w. It is f2p, but paying money for time is AN OPTION that you may or may not choose. I don’t care how you dig out 117+ gold to get the 10 AR or 600g to get 13 AR or 70g for each ascended armor piece. You can play slowly and you WILL get them in a month or a year or two or three IF you are willing to put an effort for into. OR you can op out the easy way and go to McDonald work for 3-4 hours and pay for that 100+ hour time you would have played to get it.

That you would consider the option of flipping burgers in McDonald’s more preferable to actually playing the game and farming the mats does indeed suggest there is a problem.

Hey dude, he’s not the one crying. You labeled farming for X mats to do the content you want as boring and want an alternative way to get out of work. All he did was offer a legitimate suggestion and quiet possibly your best solution to gaining access to what you want as quickly as possible. If you want to farm a game for weeks to get what you want, so be it. If you want to get what you want in less than a single day go flip some burgers. But I know many people would gladly choose the latter.

On a side note, I don’t see why you would even care about doing lv50. By now you should understand that there is no beneficial loot, there is no “new” content you don’t already have access to by hitting lv50 and there is no progression past lv50 at the moment. World first is clearly out of the picture.

If you want to reach the top of the mountain, you have to climb. You can’t stand at the bottom and demand someone installs an elevator.

Yeah, must be why all those skiiers don’t use ski lifts and choose to climb the mountain themselves.

And those skiiers trade money in exchange for the ski lift services to get to their objective more quickly. =O logic

Conjure weaps are pretty fine in their current state. If you look at any dps test LH, FGS, and bow are all either highest burst or highest sustained dps sources in the game. This not only goes for PvE but a couple can be applied in PvP as well such as the bow/fgs in a capture the point objective scenario. I would hardly say that conjure weaps are in deep need of an upgrade and doubt we will be seeing one anytime soon after they recently buffed them however minor the buff was.

How about you just give us a weapon swap.

It’s tough to get an accurate measure of a skills worth especially when many of the players specialize in one aspect of the game. It serves great purpose in pve dungeon running simply for the blast itself for might stacking / invis stack / blast heal ect. However, as many of the people have posted already it is mediocre in quiet a few dueling aspects or specific builds. I myself run glyph just for the swiftness. All in all, it’s a cool concept, but unless the dmg isn’t increased or the cast time is reduced significantly I think it’ll be hard for people to incorporate it into a “one build fits all” scenario. I give it a 3

I still fail to see the reasoning behind not being able to use X skill after going through some of your threads. At this rate it seems rather childish to create rules out of thin air saying something like “you can not use icebow, but you can use a lightning hammer”. Every hard hitting spell an ele has is on a fairly long cd, how would you determine what players can and can’t use… The icebow itself hits hard even on targets with small hitboxes so I’d say you’re a little out of line to reject Anierna’s fb vid; it’s a burst skill just like the fgs.

Also you said that these weapons don’t work the same way on all mobs, they technically do especially fgs blink.

@Anierna idk why you’re comparing the time it takes to kill with an fgs against mine when the skill use is identical and the only thing you can change is the build setup/food. That said I know I wasn’t running the most optimal set up. I was running venom skale instead of powerful undead slaying pot, I didn’t drop the fgs directly after the whirl for a couple of extra hits and I used imobilize signet instead of arcane power/wave. I haven’t seen any other fgs dps vids out, so there’s no harm in leaving it here.

No. Just no… the reason for this patch was to stop the pigeonholing of x/x/x/30/30 or some other close variation due to the exact reasons you stated: low hp pool being weak against condi. With a substantial portion of the meta shifting towards condi the game becomes extremely dull and tedious and is what anet wants to move away from. Your suggestion to burn 30 trait point into earth for -25% condi duration only to get hard countered by a lot of players that are already stacking a few sets of 2, +10% condi duration runes (up to +30%) is such a waste that no one would even consider the trait anymore. Even a piece of food! Let me emphasize that in caps. A PIECE OF FOOD entirely scraps the idea of -25%. You might rebuttal saying, “I can use -condi food and runes”, but then you’re right back down to square 1, a low hp pool with far less options to trait into condi removal. This continues in a circle, stack vit to ameliorate the hp problem, and then have little to no dmg and still running into the problem of players stacking imobilize. The current diamond skin anet is offering everyone allows players develop much more damage oriented builds without worrying about having such a low health pool and stray away from this meta.

I believe you understand the concept of this trait being useful above 90% but fail to see that the 10% threshold is there to balance it instead of thinking that you should be immune 100% of the time when juxtaposed with a bit of regen and toughness. The enemy will still burn their cds on you and waste a large portion of their skills in order to chain skills only to be null and get nothing out of it; the trait already serves its purpose just by blocking a lot of players initial skills.

TL;DR: your suggestion is bad and you should feel bad

Goal: PvE, Dungeons

Hey guys, I am starting a new guild. It’s gunna be a PvE dungeon guild. I am basically striving towards always having a network of talented/well-experienced players to do dungeons with and being able to share that with others.

What we expect from you:
-Full zerker;
-Open minded to take insightful criticism;
-Willingness to improve;
-Patience;

What you can expect from us:
-quick and efficient dungeon runs;
-trash talk; with a hint of helpful advice

We do not care if you:
-act immaturely; we can all take a joke, just don’t take it too far
-are a casual, hardcore, or elitist player;
-are a 12y/o or 50y/o;
-have little to no time to play;
-do not have a mic;
-represent the guild or not;
-are from a different server;

As of now my focus is on the players, so unfortunately there will be no buffs/guild bonus’ currently running; however, I’d like to change that in the near future (maybe in a week from now), but it is not my number one concern as of now. I do not plan on running guild missions/bounties or other special events unless more motivational incentives are added from anet. Once again, I am creating this guild as a way for us to do dungeons in a fashionably quick manner.

So, as the guild title states, being full zerker is going to be a pre-requisite upon joining the guild. In addition, you should also have multiple weap sets carried on you. I will also consider full assassin or some sort of mix. That is all…

Some minor things to note: I am really colloquial, I will speak my mind openly (or type).

I do not care if you….

act immaturely;

choose whether or not to represent the guild;

I just made a legendary and wish to transmute its stats; however, I am worried about whether or not it will gain the ascended upgrade that anet hinted at in the near future. With that said, should I transmute it? or should I wait?

Hello, I’m looking for a guild as the title states. I am a hardcore PvX player and have a tpvp/wvw guild; however, I occasionally wish to do dungeons. Just like most people, repetition eventually becomes tedious and I’d like to keep things more dynamic by switching things up: dungeons.

Many people, like myself, have dungeon master, but I will not claim to know all the paths. I ran CoF p1 post nerf a lot, AC and TA the majority of the time. I main an ele. I have full ascended zerker, and celestial sets so I can play dps or bunker/support roles (not like anyone does bunker in dungeons XD). I primarily focus on scepter/X, summon weap builds. In addition, I carry all weaps on me anyway as well as 10 scepters and daggers with diff sigils for me to swap to depending on the situation. I am ranked in tpvp and often wvw, so I do not expect to rep the guild 100% of the time as I will be swapping between my guilds depending on what I feel like doing. Also I am on the Maguuma server, 22, have and have a mic.

All-in-all, I am looking for a hardcore dungeon guild, non-100% rep.

Can someone explain to me why Eicherjw is so upset about spvpers vs wvwers? If you 1v1 someone in wvw and 1v1 someone in s/tpvp what’s the difference if both players are fully geared? And wouldn’t the spvp prove to be a much clearer distinction of who is better in that 1v1? Or is Eicherjw just a whiny baby.

I am really curious as to how the people complaining about thieves play… I can take on 2 sometimes even 3 thieves at once and down them all. I use S/D and I mean that itself has 3blinds with relatively short cds and 1 that is instant cast. 2 aoe kd’s also near instant cast. 5heals (6 if you wish to count runes, and up to 4 extra regens – so 10 heals in all), and a bunch of mini nukes/aoes to take shelter in. There’s no way people should have trouble 1v1ing a thief unless they pretend they’re playing a thief themselves by going all berserker gear… in which case you’d deserve to get 1 shotted. Even if having a bad build was the case, just blinding and rolls basically hardcounters them. Thieves work based on initiative; no initiative, no heartstrike, no dmg all point to a dead thief.
