Trouble claiming Lost Precipice

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

So while I am sure this has been mentioned before, after an entire evening of trying, I find myself drawn to make a plea for help.

I am a part of a very small guild. We have allies to help us with things, but even they are small in number. Well tonight we attempted to take the Lost Precipice.

DISASTER. If it wasn’t the fact that the spawns are ludicrously, punishingly far away from each other, it was the fact that when we arrived, we were wiped out slowly.

We tried with a variety of numbers. Two parties of ten to go to different areas (this dropped our dps), a smaller group of 7-8 to keep it to one spawn, (we then found ourselves having issues making it to the spawns in time.) The sheer scale of the Precipice is amazing, I love the layout, but for this event, the low time limit coupled with the ground that needs covered while under fire much of the time, has left me and my guild frustrated and demoralized.

How is a small guild like ours, with very little help on call, supposed to do this?

How can we, with our small numbers, make it to each spawn while maintaining the DPS to kill everything? Do any other guild leaders who run small guilds have an idea?

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Keeping people in a fight where we constantly lose is tiring, so I’d like to approach our next raid into the Precipice with a new strategy.

Thanks again, Fellow Adventurers.

Been on DR since Day 1 and all I can say is this:

Don’t overlook us! Despite size differences, we’ve always been a scrappy server with an extremely friendly and knowledgeable population! To a lot of us who have inhabited DR since the early days, it isn’t just a low tier server, but instead a home we’ve carved for ourselves, even if that home is currently at the bottom.

Lately, we have had issues with getting any sort of organized large scale resistance together, but when we do manage it, we roll over things with the force of a thousand angry Norn!

So yes, join our server. We aren’t inviting you to another digital realm for your guild to inhabit, but instead the home we’ve defended and won glory for over the years. We want new guilds to be a part of that, we want new players to feel how we feel when we win against superior numbers/odds.

Don’t be afraid to join our T8 server, because the only place we have to go is up!

Why do people play anything other than a war?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

Well, this thread escalated quickly. Not that I expected any less. A thread like this pops up every now and again, and with the same explosive result.

I recently tried a warrior. I have 4 other level 80’s, the one which I enjoy most (and consider my main) to be my Engineer. Engi is a challenge, and when I roam in WvW there is never a shortage of good fights. It’s dynamic, no fight ever happens the same way twice, and I am afforded many options of how I want to approach a battle.

My warrior on the other hand… well, lets do some math.

Engineer (I roll 3 kits)- 4 toolbelt skills, 5 weapon skills, each kit providing 5 skills, my elite, my heal skill, that of which has an activation= Grand Total of 27 skills at my disposal.

Warrior- 10 weapon skills, a heal that I try not to actually use (signet), 3 other skills, and an elite= Grand Total of 15 skills.

You see the point I am trying to make? Sure the warrior does it simply, but other classes (Ele and Engi, here’s looking at you) simply have more ways to approach a battle than just “draw weapon, swing weapon, attempt to win.” Standing around hitting things is NOT the only way to play the game.

But you weren’t talking about WvW/PvP? I got that covered.

You want to know insane damage? A decent Lightning Hammer Ele and me spamming fire fields every few seconds off the bomb kit. Maybe I’ll run Flame Turret on my skill bar for yet another Fire Field so I can have a Fire Field for almost 12 seconds straight . Not to mention a good Ranger in the party with Frost Spirit and Spotter.

Moral of this story. People don’t all play Warriors because there are MANY more ways to skin a cat in this game. And when it comes to warriors, they may do it more reliably thanks to their toughness and survivability, but a well played Engi/Ele etc etc can prove much more valuable to a party than any random Warrior. And I can assure you there are more good Engis and Eles than there are good Warriors.

(Note: I like my warrior. He’s a good looking, sauve, Asura. It provides a nice break from the piano playing playstyle of my Engi/Ele. Mentioned this to show that my opinions are not based on bias, but personal experience.)

[WvW Warrior] Way of the Burning Rampart

I haven’t played my warrior in a long time, but this looks great.

Your rune choice isn’t stupid. It is unique, and as I noticed in your Stoneheart Ele build you posted a while back (got me using Conjures in WvW lol, and winning!), you have a knack for making unique work. As for “cheese,” away with that noise! It’s a game and you can play it how you want! Everything is beatable, people just need to find out how, not throw up their arms and claim that your build is so good it’s shameful.

I’d only make one change. And one only. And this is purely based on personal preference.

I would probably run Perplexity runes instead of guardian (I never bank on healing power unless I’m speccing for it ala Healbomb engi) and the burn only lasts for about a second, while Perplexity continues to punish your opponents, and you can proc it off your mace/shield/bull rush skills and free up 2 trait points to drop wherever you please. (maybe 2 more into the Defense line for the missile reflection while blocking. With 3 blocks at your disposal, you can give a nasty surprise to those pesky rangers who think standing at max range and hitting you with Rapid Fire is a good idea)

Then again, changing the rune set kind of deviates from the “Burning” part of the build, so there is that.

Certainly gonna dust off my warrior and give this a go. Never tried a condi build warrior, as I didn’t play it long, but this looks fun! It also has that “Warrior on a Budget” thing going for it, as you were right about the Heavy Rabid gear. Cheap cheap cheap.

So tonight, in my quest to not pay for any of my traits, I set out to spawn the Dredge Commissar. I did the In Pursuit of Knowledge quest chain, but upon doing the events, there seemed to be no progression of the chain at all. It continually reset to “the dredge and priory are competing for centre camps” Am I going about this chain all wrong? Is it broken?

Thanks for any input you all may have!

I agree with this. Engi isn’t so much a class as a lifestyle. The same goes for Ele’s (I roam with both, and couldn’t imagine someone new to the class having an easy time.)

A well played Engi is a force of nature. People who just play/alt engis tend to be free bags in the roaming scene.

DR player here!

While EB tends to be a zerg-fest from time to time, I have to say that the Borderlands tend to have some great small-scale action. I HATE zerging, and DR is the place to be if that is your mentality. The NA off hours are a roamers paradise. Whether you want to take on things by yourself, or find a small group to run with, the action is never far away!

I have been here since launch, watched us sit at the bottom of the rankings, and been here through the rise to be one of the best servers of NA Bronze tier. We have heart, and we don’t give up. Our WvW guilds are friendly, helpful, and very skilled. We are certainly worth a look!

Great video! I mained engi for a year before I found out how awesome my mesmer was, and I still play it on occasion. It was my first love in GW2, and always will be.

I have one thing to critique, and one thing to praise. You can choose which one you get first.

Just kidding, I’m gonna pick :p

1- The Critique: More elixir auto. Pistol auto is just bad.

2- The Praise: Your timing of your shield skills is downright great. The use of the KB against the thief coming out of stealth in your video was some good timing. The shield is a tough weapon to master, and you have a very very good grasp on it.

Keep it coming! You are doing us Engineers proud!

I’m sure I don’t stand alone in saying that this was only a matter of time, I don’t think much of anyone’s builds will change if they are already running this. Much as I was happy to see this rune-set get hit with the nerfbat, the change wasn’t so extreme as to get most people too stop playing it. Now if they had removed the damage w/ Might modifier, or taken away 10% of the might duration, then YES, we would see a shift.

Lurock, I wanted to show you what I was doing with this build. I stated before that I agreed that there was something to this build, so I did some tinkering. I haven’t taken it solo roaming yet, but I ran this build with a small group of 2-3 over the last few days, and it’s grown on me. I still switch back to D/D from time to time, but I like the option to vary my gameplay.

After some experimentation, I came up with a rather odd, yet effective combination of armor. The rune choice was just the right kind of strange, and the sigils are less focused on crits, and more on just pushing raw damage.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fFEQJArdhMMacW4wACf0ADAG5rQSYKEKAMuHUDOiA-TFTBABOt/gWKJwR9HuUCxwBC4KlCYpMBPdALqEEFtEL8AAA4EAEAABYnBA25O35O35OLFArCjA-w

The runes work well. I see a difference when I’m up close (with stone splinters, I get a healthy 17% damage boost while up in their faces), but its still effective when I run Axe or Frost Bow. I hadn’t even considered them up until yesterday, but the combination of toughness and a boost to conjure damage is welcome. I switch my utility skill often. If I’m getting condi’d to death, its Cleansing Fire. While in a group, it’s Mist Form. I love the flexibity more than anything. It feels more dynamic than D/D, as with my conjures, I can choose to approach a fight in even more ways than usual. (Lightning Hammer, gawd it’s just my favorite)

I ran this for a few days, and I had the same issue as Lynnie. While I think there is certainly something great to this build, it will take some tinkering. (I’m not giving up on it, going to be testing some different armor combinations and moving a few trait points around.) I think the advice your initial post mentions to never leave Earth though, is a good way to breed lazy Elementalists. I spent 75% of my time there in combat, but once your conjures run out, I found that still retaining mastery over your weapons (Sc/D is my favorite ele combo as well), is still very much advised. And with Scepter autos being utter garbage, moving attunements is still something that needs to be done with this build. (Earth is still primary, dont get me wrong.)

That stuff being said!

Running this with a small group, I noticed two things.

1) The people we faced usually focused me first. They had a very unpleasant surprise when they realized that dying wasn’t something I wanted to do. Nor did easily. Took a lot of pressure off the others while I was able to tank a considerable amount of damage, while still doling out some damage of my own. Sure, I was almost “bait,” but we all have to fill a roll, right?

2) This build made soloing camps a lot easier. I can appreciate that.

Thanks again for posting this build, and I’ll also be working on refining and fine tuning it to my playstyle. Will post results at a later date!

Even after being around since launch (with various periods of inactivity), I still manage to come back and find things that still put me in awe.

Just today, in Orr, I came across a helicopter dropship that deposited Pact Soldiers and just flew off. I was shocked, I had NO idea such technology existed within the game outside of the Charr war machines and my native races (asura) strange inventions.

I may have map completion on two characters, but every now and again I get reminded that I have not truly “Been There, Done That.”

[Suggestion] institute a banner rez cap on keep lords

**Note to OP: Insulting the very people you are asking something for is bad form (in reference to your poke at the LS villians). You want them to take you seriously, right? I want them to.

Because I agree with you.

I think bannering is a ridiculously broken mechanic. On Devona’s Rest, we work hard over the US overnight hours, we do work, and get results, but due to our low numbers, we sometimes are faced with this same issue. We enter a keep, fight minor resistance, drop the lord, then a Warrior or two come along, banners the thing, we have to fight it again, plus the opposition that has now arrived in the time we would have captured it, and more often than not, the enemy zerg gets just enough time to show up and wipe us out of existence. I can’t, through all of my efforts to understand this, see how this is not broken and imbalanced.

Hopefully we see a fix for this. Of all the issues WvW has, I think this is one that truly needs to be addressed in the near future.

Why all the hate for open field siege?

I wonder what the British thought the first time the Germans used a Flak gun against armor during WW2. “Hey they can’t do that……I’m gonna post something in forum!”

Using a weapon for a purpose other than what it was originally intended for is simply good ingenious tactics.

Whether it’s open field siege or defensive trebs in a tower, all’s fair in luv and war. : )

If one blob throws down open field siege than why wouldn’t u do the same? B/c its not honorable? WTF….are u serious!!!!

Your signature screams why no one will take you seriously.

Biggs, why? Your posting history screams you are a competent contributor to the forums. This post says otherwise. You and JQ/Rangers may need to sit down and work on your relationship a bit. The JQ ranger actually made a good point, why berate that?

On topic: open field siege isn’t exactly common on my server but it has started to catch on a bit recently. It’s not cowardly, or weak, it’s simply employing all the tools at ones disposal to achieve a goal. As my server is often outnumbered, especially overnight for American time zones, it gives us a way to even the odds a bit.

Personally, I don’t care what my opponents do, I want them staked. And they want me staked. May the best, and most innovative, win.

As a roamer (I hate zerging), this build intrigues me. This is my third time visiting this thread, and at first I thought “ya know, this looks a bit gimmicky.” But I gave the build some serious thought, looked it over, and now I’m gonna go give it a shot. It’s always a brave thing to come to the forums and post a non-meta-ish build, and I’d be shorting us both if I didn’t give it a shot. It looks solid, there is flexibility within the conjures (LH in WvW? Yes please!), and condition removal was certainly taken into consideration. Will probably miss the second Stun Break of Mist Form, but there may be room for that by subbing something out. The loss of Lightning Flash wouldn’t be felt nearly as badly on a build like this. Both the conjures are ranged anyway.

Either way, good posting, and will report the results after a night of some WvW.

I don’t get it. Is this a play how you want build or are you trying to argue that this is good for something?

You’re right, I’ll reroll and go with the meta builds everyone is doing. What was I thinking?

Now back to serious talk.

Haha Flamethrower isn’t used all that much. Mostly for it’s utility. I wear the flamethrower in between fights to keep my Might stacked, and then switch to Bombs for great damage. The knockback on the Flamethrower is a great utility, and I find the Blind is great when running AC and you get knocked down (stupid gravelings), as it can be used even when knocked back. Not to mention that FT number 2 does insane damage when you have large amount of might stacks.

I appreciate your input, but while it may look like your “standard FT build,” it’s all in how you use it. And Vulnerability isn not the only thing the Engineer is good for. I feel like our community is so conditioned to the “meta this, and meta that.” Yes, I could run Grenades. Yes, I could run Bombs exclusively, but I choose not to.

What I find is great about this is that I don’t even have to go to many great lengths to stack Might. It’s simplicity is it’s strength. With FT equipped going INTO fights, I have to work a lot less to stack might, and with what I have, I stack it higher, with lesser effort. And because of the variety of Blast finishers and Fire fields, I can SUSTAIN the Might.

Variant Two- The Kiwami MMR

A more selfish spec that removes the turrets and focuses on personal DPS. I use this often in Crucible of Eternity (Subject Alpha decimates turrets), and other areas where turrets are not viable. It combines HGH with the Might stacking potential of the Flamethrower, while bringing high end DPS from the Bomb Kit.

Characteristics:

Rifle will be used for this variant.
Runes of Strength. Hoelbrak is also acceptable.

The Build:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlcTp6q9ZxqKseNicBByEsARvjeMkPGgdC-TVCEABps/gTKhSU9HmUqIxFAoJlFAqEsNdAA8AACAcA87vBgnf+5nf+5+d4f/93fLFQETAA-w

I love this variant. It’s what I run in open world content, and has incredible Might stacking potential. I haven’t used HGH in a while, but when I started using it with this, it had some great applications.

Not much else to say about this, as it plays a lot like the first build, but with Elixirs instead of Turrets. This build is a bit more selfish, but brings a lot of DPS.

The Might on Dodge food is something I use when stacking isn’t an option.

Will be trying to post a video of both of these in the near future. But my computer isn’t the greatest, so we will see.

Thanks for reading, and questions, comments, or criticisms are welcome.

1) Introduction

My name is Sir Sprocket. I have been playing an Engineer since launch. While I am a confessed Alt-aholic, my Engineer is my pride and joy, and I strive to bring the best to any party I join.

In the last few weeks since the April 15th patch, I have been testing out some new builds. Testing their effectiveness in many PvE environments, from Dungeons to Open World Content. Of all of them, I have come to enjoy one the most, due to it’s utility and overall DPS contribution to parties I have joined.

All me to present: the Might Makes Right Engineer!

There are two variations I have been playing with, and both have their place and bring utility in various situation. I strive to make my builds as resilient and damaging as possible. It is an engineer’s job to bring utility and damage to any party they join, be it dungeons, fractals, or open world PvE content. With this in mind I have come to these two builds I am about to present.

Variant One- The Friendly MMR

A boon sharing spec that brings lots of Might, utility, and damage to any party. This build is resilient and offers many options to me. The damage is consistent, and depends on utilizing the Flamethrower and Bomb Kit in tandem, while making use of your turrets and Fire Fields. Strategic placement is a must when placing turrets.

Characteristics:

Rifle will be used in this spec.
Runes of Strength. Hoelbrak is also acceptable, as they aren’t super expensive.

The Build:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlUUpWr9ZxqKseNidBFycmBQGgBI6EGkPD-TVCEABps/gTKhSU9HmUqIxFAoJlFAqEsNdAA8AACAcA87vBgnf+5nf+5+d4f/93fLFQETAA-w

This is my spec as of today. Down to everything but the Agony Infusions, they are a bit different atm, but for the sake of the build, they are listed as such.

Lots of ways to stack Might, including Experimental Turrets. Using the Flame Turret, it provides 3 stacks of might on dropping, and maintains 6 every few seconds for the entire party. Swapping into the Flamethrower allows for passive might stacking, while allowing for Fire fields to be dropped and used. It is not uncommon for me to stack a personal 20 stacks, while also, with timing, passing out 9 to others in the party. Then swapping into bomb kit for massive damage from the bombs, including, with the stacked Might, some great condition damage added into the mix.

I use food in every dungeon run. What I use is cost effective and I strive to gain as much damage from this build as I can.

On to part 2…

Across all the hours I’ve played it today and yesterday, I’ve only lost a single match. People are really bad at understanding what the most important objective in this game is.

This is a good enough activity that it deserves to replace Keg Brawl (which is no longer skillful) or Crab Toss (which is all-around garbage) in the daily rotation, despite that making three of the four games in the daily rotation originally from the Bazaar.

I would love that. Keg Brawl was a slog. Crab Toss… meh.

I win about 80% of my games. I can tell most people just come for achievs and leave, so for me who has done about 100 games, I have a pretty decent advantage. But this is also why I’d love to see it stay. Would get some pretty awesome action from people who do it every day! How do we get this to happen?

Liadri fight worse than ever

in Festival of the Four Winds

Nabarue.3290

There is no luck involved, since the entire fight is based on patterns and set spawns. There is nothing random about it. Every run in the same arena is exactly the same.

I’m relatively positive, after 70 or so failures, the light-vortexes and the Rifts both have at least a semi-random spawn variances/activation rates(for rifts), cause in regards to Light-vortexes theres been a few occasions that its spawned kitten up against the wall making it next to impossible to get a clone to walk on it reliably.

It’s not impossible. Its a accomplish-able fight with memorizing patterns and such, but that said, I can’t in good conscience call “1-hit KO” mechanic anything but cheap and lazy design. The fight is fairly challenging in some ways, but not so fair in others. Fun for some, frustrating for most.

I’m not saying the fight should be changed, just that the rage toward it isn’t unreasonable.

I can agree with the part about cheap and lazy design. It certainly feels that way.

I also agree with you saying it IS able to be done. I am about 70 tries into it. Playing an engineer. It’s difficult. Been an engi since a week after launch. I don’t suck at my class, and I know how to play, but darn if it isn’t just intensely frustrating.

I get close. Had her at 25% health once. But I just have yet to be able to seal the deal. I will keep trying. My pride dictates as much. But I will curse it up and down now, and even after I beat it.

Aspect Arena, Darn Good Fun

With all the frustration (my own included) about Liadri, and the difficulty some instances have with the Boss Blitz, I felt it would be a good idea to point out one high point of this content that I have seen very little about, but have come to enjoy immensely.

The Aspect Arena is a blast. It’s where I go to blow off steam between Liadri attempts, and win, lose, or lose harder, I have fun each game. I have seen very little about this on the forums since the event started, and I figure some may not even know about it, given that it is far removed from the Gauntlet and the Pavilion. I would love to see this event stay even after the Festival is over! (a guy can dream right?)

Revisiting my Ranger, RRR still viable?

in Ranger

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

So I"m revisiting my Ranger after taking some time away from it. I used to run the Roaming Regen Ranger (RRR) for my WvW build, but since the April 15th patch, and changes to Runes etc, I was wondering just how viable this still was?

How has this weathered the many months since I have played my Ranger? What build, if any, have carried the torch of this build that I LOVED to play so long ago?

Thanks to any/all who may answer!

I can’t speak for them, but I stand by my statement. I stay away from groups that look for only meta builds. I used to do that a while ago, and when things go wrong, they tend to go catastrophically wrong. That and I met some very unsavory players in those groups. Not saying you are one, but just speaking from my past experiences.

That and I think the word “meta” is synonymous with “stagnation.”

But alas, we’ve diverted from the original point of this thread…

Exactly. A good engi asks "how can I make this work?’ not “this sucks, why bother?”

I have run my FT build in dungeons before, and while some people have asked me about it, the results speak for themselves.

Good luck with the rifle, i swear by Jump Shot. And it gives you yet another knockback to help you should you need it.

Flamethrower help!

in Engineer

Nabarue.3290

You can easily hit 15 stacks of might with bombs or grenades and with some effort even 20-25 stacks. What is again the point? FT still sucks.

The point being that it’s a game, and as such, not everyone is in to running the OMGWTFBBQ SUPER UBER BUILD that people say is best. People can run whatever they want. (Sorry, I wouldn’t have quoted you specifically, but for every FT thread, there is someone like you who makes a completely irrelevant post like this) Some people (like myself) enjoy running the flamethrower. Also, I am lead to assume that you did not look at his posted build because he IS running the Bomb Kit.

Now, to the OP. Looks decent. I would suggest running Rifle. The Rifle 5 skill, Jump Shot, is wonderful in conjunction with the fire fields you will be running. It can give you the Fire Shield off the Leap Finisher, which burns enemies and grants you might when struck. Pistol/Shield is solid, but if might stacking is your aim, go all out and give the Rifle a shot. If you happen to run a Sigil of Battle in your Rifle, you will gain 3 stacks from swapping from FT to Rifle, then the fire shield, and whatever other finishers those around you may provide. Might everywhere!

Best of luck, OP. Nice to see other FT engis out there making this awesome weapon feasible.

Are Turrets Any good?

in Engineer

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

I’ve been playing Engineer since launch, and only now, with the new Grandmaster Trait, have I started experimenting with turrets. As with any class, I would argue that there is no “best build” for a class, you will get a varying degree of answers if you are looking for “most effective.”

I find the most effective use (for me), comes from using the turret boon trait Experimental Turrets, and using my turrets to supplement what my build does (might stacking, Rifle Turret giving me Fury). The added DPS is welcome, but I by no means depend on them. On the plus side, it makes Supply Crate a whole lot more fun.

What i described above is a PvE build, but for WvW you will have a harder time making them work. There is just too much room for your opponents to move around, and often times too much AoE spam for your turrets to survive for very long. I have not tried turrets in PvP so I cannot weigh on that one.

Best of luck, hope I was able to provide some insight!

Flamethrower + Might Build ?

in Engineer

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

I would agree with the person above me. Grenades are better. But you didn’t post about grenades. You posted about the flamethrower, and thats what brought me here lol.

I like to play with the toys I enjoy most, so I have done my best to make a flamethrower build that is fairly reliable and fun. (I mean, c’mon! It’s a FLAMETHROWER. Something so awesome has to have SOME use!) As an engineer, our greatest strength is in making work what we want to work. Versatility is our greatest weapon, adaptability is next, as it goes hand in hand with versatility. So flamethrower can work. It just requires some work.

Before I post this, I want to state that I was an engineer that never ran, nor really cared for turrets. I just didn’t use them, save for the occasional Healing Turret. But the new trait for turret boons opened a few options, and brought me to the build I am about to post. It isn’t perfect. It may not do uber damage like Grenades. But it’s fun. I enjoy it, and it WORKS.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlUUpWrVVx6KseNSdBFydWQQGgCI6aEjQD-TVSDwAs2fwnyOYq/8UpQlLAQIdAAM7pQJ4gHAQAgDAKcQKAWFGB-w

The Elixir B sometimes gets subbed out for whatever I may need. Also, I’m not sure if this has always been the case, but the Mortar gives me Stability. I wrote it off as useless before I toyed with this build, but it’s not terrible, and if you trait elite supplies over Power Shoes at the proper times, Mortar becomes a decent ranged weapon when you lack for one so badly with a FT. It’s my go-to weapon against Fire Ele and Jungle Wurm. Not always the best, but it has uses.

The might stacking is darn good though. And the on demand fire field can set up even more might stacking possibilities.

Best of luck!

Scepter. How do I make it love me?

in Guardian

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

So a few weeks ago, I crafted Meteorlogicus for my Mesmer. I love the thing, and with the new April patch, I was so excited to know that it was account bound. I could move it over to my guard! (it totally looks BA with my color/armor setup too lol)

So I have been doing research. I scoured the forums, poured over almost a dozen DPS charts for Guardian weapons, and conducted a few experiments of my own. I love the weapon; a little CC, a fairly good AoE (if not a bit of a small radius), and an autoattack that melts anything standing still.

But I came here to ask this: after posting a build on here a while ago, and coming to realize it was by no means the best for it, how can I maximize this weapon? I tend to switch between characters from time to time (ok, I’m an Alt-aholic), so I may not have the in depth experience that many people who play Guardian exclusively may have.

Are there any builds and/or tips that may be able to be shared to help me get the most out of this? Not just in PvE, but also in WvW. Opinions/tips from both aspects would be appreciated!

Thanks to all who may respond!

Need help against Necros.

in Engineer

Posted by: Nabarue.3290

Nabarue.3290

You would think the best Engineer on Earth would have some sort of strategy for fighting Necros besides just running away. They’re not impossible to kill, and if anyone can it would be you, right your highness?

/sarcasm

Hello frands! Vee Wee here #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!

Because of class design, not even Vee Wee #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80 can take on a competent condi Necromancer! They actually are impossible to kill! You have three options in a 1v1! The first option is to run! The second is to try to hold the point long enough for you to yell on teamspeak or type in all caps in chat for a teammate to come and help you. Assuming you have Gear Shield, Elixir S, and Supply Crate up, you have about 10 seconds before you die. The third option is to surrender to Anet’s balance and die.

Hope that helped! Wahoo! Bye frands!

Ya know, there is actually something to this. (Well, more than something.) As a WvW roamer 95% of the time, I can say that one of the things that make a great roamer is knowing when to disengage. A tactical retreat is a perfectly viable option for someone facing a class they are unsure if they can best. Come back with help if you need to, Condi Necros are no joke for us Engis. I always, ALWAYS think twice in PvP and WvW when coming across a condi necro. For me to engage them 1v1, the conditions (no pun intended) have to be just right. I need to surprise them, I need an escape plan. I need to have backup nearby.

VeeWee, I don’t know if you’re number 1 or all that, but in this, you may just have a valid point.

What would you pick ^^? elem/engi

in Elementalist

Nabarue.3290

I’ve played Engi since launch. I’ve played every meta build, and even some weird ones I tested from time to time. The kit swapping ability of Engineer is just so much smoother than the attunement management of Ele. Not that it makes Ele worse. I can burst people to death much faster than my Engi ever could when using my Ele, but the margin for error is MUCH smaller. Ele is punishing to mistakes and rotation disruption.

Yes, Ele conditions are lackluster compared to others, but I don’t think that’s what Ele is about. It’s Elemetal power crushing your opponents. Using my Scepter/Dagger Fresh Air, I have dropped people in SECONDS. Yes, the conditions need to be right, and that means picking your targets wisely, but there is a level of potential that if played correctly, the Elementalist can reach and allow you to crush all (most) who stand before you.

If you played an Engi and loved it, you will enjoy the challenge that Ele’s have to offer.

My take on Aquatic Benevolence (S/D)(WvW)

in Elementalist

Nabarue.3290

Ok so there is no way my computer can record anything, it’s old and hates me.

What I can say is that this build works very well for me. The thing I love most about it is that by switching out Aquatic Ben. with Cleansing Water I can go from zerg support to roamer. And by dropping the 10 points in the Arcane Line into Fire (take summon trait), I can easily become a very good dungeon runner using Lightning Hammer.

The greatest strength of this build is the versatility while still being able to maintain damage via Fresh Air. Still testing some runes (considering Strength Runes but they are incredibly expensive atm, and having just crafted Meteorlogicus, my coffers are a bit empty), but Eagle still seems to be the best for this.

I have to second Tyler’s suggestion about removing the Glyph in favor of the Armor of Earth. It’s underwhelming in a build with such potential. Also Diamond Skin is certainly a trait that you should be swapping out every now and again. Turns a necro’s dreaded Signet of Spite into nothing at all. Stone Heart is a good trait, but I have a hard time being sold on a trait that requires me to be attuned to an element for it to work, so be prepared to do some switching to be effective in any situation. (There are exceptions to this rule, mind you.)

Also FGS is boss. Glyph of Elementals is great for smaller engagements and when you are trying to set up a burst rotation. (as mentioned above, air ele for stuns!)

One last thing, I feel like your health pool is a bit low. 14k health is dangerously low in WvW, for any profession.

Before I get into this problem, I would like to state that my computer is nowhere near fantastic. It’s an old thing that runs the game at minimum settings. But it runs. Most of the time without many hiccups at all.

But tonight, I have encountered an extremely frustrating issue.

I logged into one character, and it kept me at the map loading screen for almost 5 minutes. The client froze, my computer froze, and I was forced to force restart.

A few minutes earlier, I had gotten onto another character, and it was fine. Normal gameplay.

I then decided to give up on trying to log in on my one character, and played the first. I played normally for an hour. Until I went to go to Sparkfly… then the same issue that hit my first character happened again. I’m locked out of playing two of my characters because I can’t get past the loading screen.

This has NEVER happened before. I have no clue what to do. Suggestions, thoughts?

Yeah, AB is such an amazing trait IMO, but I sometimes still cringe when I take off Cleansing Water. It’s a shame that trait isn’t lower in the Water line.

And yes, I have a warrior and a guard that I run with normally, and this has been an incredible help. The balance between attack and heals just feels right to me. Water Trident and Cleansing Wave are superstars with AB. Frost Bow is something I have never used in WvW before this week, but I’m loving the results.

My take on Aquatic Benevolence (S/D)(WvW)

in Elementalist

Nabarue.3290

Out of all the new traits for my Elementalist, Aquatic Benevolence interested me the most. While I was running a very bursty Fresh Air build (aren’t they all? :P ), I wanted to try and incorporate my love of the Scepter/Dagger gameplay into a more supportive style while running with small groups. (I generally do Havoc Squads in WvW, so I still needed to keep my damage potential, while incorporating this trait into my build.)

After some work, I came to this:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJArYhMMKc25w6Bd0ANAG5jQNoGK+CEA+glyCA-T1SBwABVrgxJE4xDAIh5vIKBvpqys9HwrDAlWijK/AcgACAgAszAAkCgVhRA-w

The only addition I want to add is that Frost Bow is not always on the bar. I find it decent while taking towers and the people on the rams are taking some fire. It allows me to use the #1 skill to just target the door, and apply some assistance to them, while also providing pressure to the walls with the AoE skill, and using Chill on Enemy Defenders who may be making a mad dash to the tower, giving the others a chance to pick said Defender off before they get through the door. Also, I change my elite to fit my need, so I just added the Glyph of Elementals as a stand in, as I tend to spend the most amount of time with it.

While roaming, I switch it to Cleansing Fire or Mist Form, depending on how I feel. Cleansing Fire is usually where I go to help deal with Rampant Conditions.

Feel free to pick this apart as mush as you like, or make suggestions. I’ve only started playing with this build, so I am sure there may be kinks that need worked out.
