n= number of games needed (with 100% chance, i know, bad statistics)
x= win ratio/100
y= number of pips to climb without safe zones

Assumptions:
51% win ratio, stable
only +/-1 pip

20 pips

Chance of doing it in 20 rounds (all wins)

0,51*0,51*…(20 times) = 1,41E-6 = 0,0002% Chance that this happens

Chance of doing it in 21 Rounds (20 wins/one loose/it doesn´t matter, where the loose happens, so 20 variations)

0,51^20*20= 5,55E-5 = 0,006 %

22 Rounds (two looses, whereever they happen in the row, (n(n+1))/2, n=22 variations):

0,51^20*231 = 2,27E-4 = 0,03%

hundred % chance to get 20(y) pips with 51%(x) in how many games n?

1=x^y*((n*(n+1))/2
2/(x^y)=n(n+1)
0=n^2+n-(2/(x^y))

n=(1/4+(2/x^y))^(-0,5)-0,5
n=1188 Games to bring it to Emerald with 51% win ratio. But this is only the 100% Chance to get it. And No(!), the average is not 1188 divided by two. Or is it? Who knows

The question is obviously flawed, but you can make massive and invalid assumptions to answer it if you want.

Assume even distribution (each additional game is 51% chance to win). Assume all games are +/- 1 pip.

In this perfectly assumed world, you will win 1 more game than you lose every 100 games played. On average, it would take you 100 * number of pips games to progress a given distance.

Easy math. Completely worthless analysis, but easy to do.

No. Just no. Wrong maths, my friend. You assume, that you lose after each win and vice versa. Or do you really think, that it needs 500 games in average(!) for a tier of 5 pips.

The calculation is much easier, if you bring a given number of games into consideration. For example “how high is the chance to get to league Y until christmas (=x games, depending on your playin habits)” The only assumption here, you can hold the 51%.

Yeah. I personally don’t like ft for buffstacking. Feels clunky and you risk to camp the kit.

I play more or less the same build and the runes are great in my opinion. Take Agility sigil, Quick stomp all day long!

Some ideas you could check :

Medgyro for even more (group) protection.
Ram or rifle turret and sd instead of ss.
Kynetic battery for more stab, protection (with medgyro) etc.
Adding commander armor and weapon for 100% boondura.
Iron blooded for the total tankiness.

Just some ideas, with which I playin around…

Your handicapping yourself against Condi focused builds by using the med gyro cause if you used HT you’d have another 2 cleanses…

Thank you very much for the first argument in this discussion. That’s true, i forgot to put this on the pro side, my bad.

Anyhow, i feel confident with the cleanse i have. It’s more Cc wars than condi wars at the moment.
I already mentioned your other points.
Ht heals more and is better in general, but not in every build.

I have looked at the mechanics.
I compared the numbers.
I considered the mechanics.

My result: med gyro is better in my build(!)

“Ht>med gyro, regardless of build”= untrue!

Ht:
1. More base heal
2. Two waterfields with a huge radius (which makes it the better group heal)
3. Own blast
4. Knockback if traited.

Med gyro:
1. Instant cast, usable while stunned(great in pvp, combine it with rune of defender and you have aegis in stun)
2. More protection, great for boon builds, boon sharing (did you even knew, that the protection on F1 pulses 5 times for up to 5 player?)
3. Main heal is "splitted "
4. Stronger F1. Great, if you trait tools and kynetic battery.
5. Daze
6. Waterfield, that moves.

Like I said at the beginning: depends on the build…

Sorry, but statements like yours makes me sad.
Start look left and right!
Stop making assumptions based on the others!

Ok. I’m back at point, where I can’t take you serios. I bet, you even havn’t tried med gyro. Just a build copy-past guy, because others said, that’s good. Have you ever asked yourself , how many people create this “Meta” (percentage of people, which play the game)? Have you ever asked yourself, why this meta is shifting, even without patches?

I don’t think so. You don’t even ask, why the op uses med gyro or which builds i mean…

in my opinion 20% boon dura is better than 30% might duration, because:

1. there are runes avaiable with useful stats now.
2. scrapper brings a lot of useful boons into the game next to alchy (i love stabi on dogde)

Alchy+Scrapper and Elixir B + EG is mandatory in my opinion, the rest is up to you. Unfortunately only vigilant amulet is avaiable…

You need EG for range, otherwise you got kite to death. I love the high Quickness uptime. QSSS: Quick Stabi Stealth Stomp ftw!

Heal is personal preference, the 10 sec prot on F1 is nice and the instant cast saved my live different times. I think HT outshines the Med gyro. Elixir H also works great.

For WVW i´m planning with the following:

the prefix for Asc. is Tizlak´s.

Thanks for all the Feedback, guys! Nice ideals! The utilities and traits are not set in stone. It’s more about the princible idea of stacking boon duration.

I started HOT yesterday. After some pve I tried the build with diffent variations in pvp. It’s fun! Used Wanderers with rune of durability (something around +80%) and the agility sigil. Test it out!

I havn’t played the expansion yet, but already started theory crafting (new armor etc aviable @gw2skills.net).

What do you guys think about the following :

You can reach 100% boondura with ease in wvw and got

-Permavigor like inthe good old times (even without tools line thanks to the New sigil)
-25 might should be possible as well
-High protection uptime
-"permanent " stabi infight without juggernaut

You will have a hard time against boon corruption/stealing and you lose some stat points (less, than i thought).

Any downsides i am missing? Before i start farming /crafting next week…

And is the runes really 30% boondura?

Edit: Build is for wvw Solo/small scale roaming
Edit2: uh, quickness magnet sounds also nice in theory

I tried forgeman but balthasar is just to good. As a condition dealer stealth works great as defense. I know…turret… But with the flame turret you add burning, blind and an extra stealth combo to your build.

One reason to give the engy and ele swap is so we don’t have to keep going to our inventory to swap crap around. Anet can just make sure it doesn’t get used in combat. Obviously its not some game breaking issue but quality of life changes are important. They really need to bring back the 4 weapon slots even if you can only have 1-2 “active” in combat. It would make switching between sets a lot easier.

It’s not that hard to get ooc and back…

In my opinion the cap between Meta/op/cherry-picked builds and the others is to big. Before the 23rd it was possible to play with 0 in alchy and without tk (not the best, but somehow viable).

Now I feel forced into specific lines and traits and I tested a lot of stuff the last weeks. Not picking alchy feels like death sentence in pvp nowadays.

Someone might say, just take the meta. But as long as we have a choice in theory, I just want to have it in praxis aswell!

Someone might say, thats normal after such a big balance patch. True. But waiting a month for rebalancing is not that nice.

I also think, the whole situation is not only engi-related.

Just my personal view.

There is also a Bug with smoke bomb. Move while dropping and you will see. Actually this bug makes stealthing on escape much easier

I think bk will be viable again once they fix it. We don’t speak about camping bk pressing #1 within all the aoe. It’s more using 2,4,5 depending on the situation.

Dopple BoB is also very funny. You just have to practise knocking your foe into
to Bob2 with Bob1.

No it isn’t.

We have already proven this in multiple other threads with video. Use AEDs tool belt skill that has a 180 range. Stand at max range, take a half step back and no bomb will touch or effect the target, with the exception of glue bomb.

Yupp. Have not tested it with aed, but on some mobs and you have to get ridicilous close to actually hit.

Hard to build a build avoiding bugs these days.

Well if you are all sold on tiny medpacks for which you don’t have the stats to scale and a smoke bomb that doesnt do much against melee with its 2sec pulse intervals and diddly against ranged attacks, be my guest to spec into Inventions and have a jolly time

Sorry, but you have no clue about the engineer Profession and It’s traits. You never healt yourself with crate? You even know the base heal value? And the smoke bomb is such a great, especially against rangers and for sd builds. Just to deep in the wrong line. Up till know!

EDIT: A comment on your video said Shrapnel is 100% chance with no CD!? As excited as I am to try the new Mortar and use that trait, Shrapnel is now absolutely insane even if they reduced the bleed duration.

errr i think anet implied it would still be at 15% proc rate on hit, they just added cripple to make it more defining for condi builds and swapped it with grenadier cuz grenadier is getting a hard nerf pretty much no matter what

perma cripple with frequent reapplication is even dumber than a burn guard. theres no way itll be 100% proc

I tend to agree with you but there’s a comment on the video and Wolf seemed to agree that was happening. I would like proof if they did say it, otherwise I think you’re right.

Yes, rifle 5 leap will stealth you, even if you land outside of the smokefield. Starting within is enough.
You can also selftrigger the smoke field by using rifle 4.

I would suggest the vigor/speed combo alchy 1+speed Kits. Mine + gadgeteer + Rune of defender is a nice Setup. The 6th bonus triggers the 4th and the heal is around 3900 hp.

Try out rune of defender in combination with armor mods. You lose some damage stats, but gain a lot of survability. First/second Hit on you > aegis > block > 4k heal >aegis. First 4-5 seconds of a fight you feel immortal. 4-5 seconds with sd= dead enemy.

LOL to OP…..you can go full zerk and used it for what? Zerg fights? GvG? solo roam? i main an engi and i’ve tried doing any possible zerk build in wvw and find that it blows……give u an example…if u think u can blast them fast enuf cuz of ur zerk build, my ranger can kill u faster with 1 skill….2 words…rapid fire…..for short, some classes jsut do it better, as for engi, zerk in wvw will just kitten u off more than enjoying it, u can still try it though your choice.

Within an SD Build and 30 in Tools i wouldn´t use it. Using a dogde offensively to get fury makes you 10% dmg loss (3rd minor trait tools).

20% crit rate = 10% damage at 150% crit damage
20% crit rate = 20% damage at 200% crit damage

Well…if you have no other source of fury, take it. But with a 30% uptime max before boonduration…i don´t know, there are better options (rune-whise and other).

Again, they are not bad at all. But they are not game braking or something and I haven´t found a build yet, where they are better than other choices.

did some calculations and testings with my boons&burst sd-build evasion-runes vs. pack. pack is better for me.

edit: With SD and 30 in Tools i try to not dogde within the initial burst to get a benefit from the trait

but yeah: depends on the build around.
