For a variety of reasons, I stopped playing often back in october, and had completely quit in november. Now the heavy work season as lifted, family time during the holidays is over, and I find myself with some free time.
I’m wondering if there’s any real reason to come back to GW2. I’ve already got my gear I want, dyed how I want. I’ve maxed my crafting, done my personal story, done all the dungeons. I have my legendaries.
Is there anything in the game, other than the once a month special events worth doing, or should I take my time and money elsewhere?
Take your time and money elsewhere. I’m moving to Neverwinter Online.
Cryptic developing
PWE publishingI’m stilling willing to place my bets on GW2.
Could be worse like this:
Anet developing
NCsoft publishing……
oh wait thats this
I’m Designer Hrouda, and this is my favorite thread on the forum.

That being said, we are always looking at our reward tables. I agree with you that a blue is very unsatisfying of a reward for GL and other instances. Part of our Dungeon work coming down the line is going to involve changing reward tables and whatnot, so please be patient as we work through things as fast as we can.
Where have I heard this before????
People will complain about ANYTHING in these forums.
Just do it and move on, seriously whats the problem? Maybe they are reworking something in their system and need to have people change their PWs.
Stop making it all about you.
wouldn’t be the first time they lied to us
For those anticipating NWO, I wish you well. However, NWO will be a Perfect World F2P game, complete with P2W and gamble boxes coming out of your characters’ ears. If that floats your boat, then more power to you.
Same with GW2. Only difference? I was dumb enough to pay 35 bucks for what I couldve done for free.
Neverwinter online looks like a terrible game, I can’t believe they think anyone is actually going to play it. If anything is going to take a chunk out of the GW2 player base, it will most likely be the Elder Scrolls online.
Then you sir are ignorant of the LARGE D&D fanbase thats been around since before most of us were born.
the same LARGE D&D Fanbase playing D&D Online? Oh wait….
I am part of that fanbase having played pen and paper D&D since the late 80’s
and No I couldn’t care less that Neverwinter online is coming out. It looks terrible.
I didn’t even like the last Neverwinter Nights single player.
As for DDO, that put me off completely- I hated that game.
Anyone can claim they’re something

lolz
Ned StarkNeverwinter is coming
I see what you did thar :P
you loved it didn’t ya lol
From what I saw of Elder Scrolls online, the skill system is just mimicking what Anet did.
The land of parrot people.
The ESO game has me worried. Bethesda is stepping onto foreign ground when building an MMO and since the game is set in ESOs past there might be alot of contradicting elements.

How will the pvp be in NWO?
won’t know til the NDAs been lifted
As the title states I am giddy about Neverwinter Online going live in a few months. Ever since the Nov 28 patch this game has continually gone downhill especially since Anet seems determined to put out sub par, boring, and bland content and veering off the road that made GW1 what it was. A GREAT game. Now this game has bottomed and become worse than most F2P korean MMOs.
I am placing all my bets on Archeage which as it turns out is releasing this year. This is the game which will show where MMO’s should be by now…
i’m in line with you but just gonna add Neverwinter to the list. How a REAL ACTION MMO should be when regaurding combat mechanics
the first 2 weeks of release….before everything got boring and repetitive
Just wanted to let you guys know that we’re reading this thread.
Your logic, reasons, anecdotes and ideas are being listened to. Also keep in mind, that as I said yesterday, a skill can be a balance problem in one area of the game, but underpowered in another. That’s the nature of using one set of #‘s to balance across all areas of the game. So we’re keeping that in mind as we look at this. We may need to do different tweaks in different areas of the game.
We’re also not going to make a knee jerk reaction to this. We’re still gathering data, watching player trends, and having meetings on all possible ramifications from possible changes.
We’d love to see this so called data since your current count on the “Listening to the Playerbase” scoreboard is zilch.
My guild’s leader was hit by the recent ban wave. Because he can no longer access his account, he cannot pass on leadership to anyone else.
I sent a ticket to ANet asking for them to either pass leadership to someone else, or temporarily unban my guild leader to allow him to do this himself. They have said they have no ability to assist on this issue (and will not consider a temporary unbanning), which leaves our several hundred member guild effectively crippled.
Our guild was formed within minutes of the beginning of headstart. We have researched everything you could spend influence on, and the guild carries the name of our gaming community (Unrepentant). While one could just say “make a new guild”, that’s a rather unpalatable solution – to lose thousands of hours of influence gains, our name and tag, and whatever reputation we have on our server simply because ArenaNet did not think through the consequences of their actions.
They meant well with this latest action, but the fact that they would throw an entire guild under the bus to punish one person, and have absolutely no means to transfer guild leadership is frankly mind boggling.
My advice to those guilds still playing is to ensure that you have more than one person occupying the top slot in your leadership structure, or ensure a separate rank is created that has all the functionality of the leadership spot. If your guild leader gets banned, goes MIA, or otherwise disappears, you will be left unable to fully manage your guild.
Dao Jones I would suggest you either give up this argument or take the fighting to them. As it is quite apparent these guys have no respect for their playerbase. Since falling into NCsofts palms they only care about how to make a quick buck selling sub par content. Also anyone who agrees that an entire guild should pay for the actions of one person is no better than Anet at being some of the biggest kittens on the planet. You all fit the “White Knight” definition perfectly. Now stop kissing up to Anet in the hopes they will throw you a bone cause it will never happen.
I’ve logged hundreds of hours already, and have no plans to move to another MMO. The open world cooperative gameplay resonated with everything I’ve ever wanted in an MMO. Definitely not perfect, but I don’t expect perfection from a recently-launched game with so many daring innovations.
Holiday content updates have been great so far, can’t wait to see what else they’ve got for us.
Daring innovations my foot. Would love to see you name at least 1.
If you have some prove to backup that conjecture I would love to see it. Besides there really isn’t a single innovation in this game like we’ve heard so many claims about.
The fact that they decided to make an official forum for Guild Wars 2 when they didn’t for Guild War would indicate otherwise.
Not quite. Making an official forum allowed them to keep the majority of forum goers in one place, where they have absolute control over censorship. Back in GW1 times where there were only fan forums, they had little control over administration of the community, and as such the community was more autonomous.
So they’re pretty much the game company version of China when it comes to censoring stuff they don’t like? On topic I don’t think a CSM would benefit the players anymore than what the current forums are. Remember for the CSM to actually be a functional entity Anet would have to listen first which going by they’re current forum record isn’t happening. The reason it worked so well for EVE Online is because even before the CSM was established CCP was already listening to the playerbase in the forums. The CSM was basically introduced to help mediate between the Devs and playerbase. Which once again Anet is lacking in.
You do realize in most games events are usually gold sinks of RNG for the unlucky, and for the lucky its a way to possibly get rich or feel special, and of course the super rich just keep getting richer because they can control the markets. Oh, and just be thankful you get to choose your pets you want to craft, GW1 every single pet outside of collectors edition bonus pets were completely RNG! This is an RPG, I’ll assume you’ve played other ones before, get use to RNG because it’s what makes things interesting! Doors that way —-->
World of Warcrafts seasonal events are a good role model for Anet since they don’t have a massive failure of an RNG rate on monster dropped items and the rest can be easily obtained.
don’t worry about the white knights necrid. they’re just mad cause your punching wholes in Anets multiple bought “Game of the Year” titles. As for the topic I believe we should grill Anet more about this horrible RNG success/failure percentage.
In all honesty GW2 is a knock off of Rift just set in the Guild Wars setting.
I’m re-subbing to WoW =)
Definitely not fun nor challenging to open one of those mystery boxes and those level 31 Toy Ventari (or Skritt) pop out, especially if you are in a low-level area like Plains of Asford (level 10 area just south west of Ascalonian Catacombs). Made like 4 attempts at them and cost something like >10 silver for wy cost/armor repair.
Thank you for reporting this. We are aware and will have it fixed soon. There are only two instances of this problem out of hundreds of boxes. Hopefully you can find some elsewhere.
Translation: They wont get fixed before the event is over.
Nah no need to give more false hype about this sinking ship of a game.
Providing too many details is slightly ruining events for me

Thanks Navi.
And as far as the toys go, I think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised.
Depends on how bug/server issue infested this event is. When looking back at the halloween event you can only get better because it’s virtually impossible to get worse unless you try to.
How on earth can you say more was broken than fixed? One new bug was added. One. Which they are working on.
It’s Arena Net we’re talking about here. Right now they’re at zilch in the 9th inning with no runners on base and the batter with 2 strikes and no balls. I don’t see an upset in the future. These guys somehow manage to introduce more bugs every time they do a patch then fix things. Let’s not forget the bugs that have been around since BWE1 or game launch for that matter.
How has the game gone uphill then? There are less people playing and everyone is shuffling themselves to that new dungeon. So much harder to get a group to do any PvE content that is non dungeon.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/6915/99384436.png
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9392/52397020.pngThere’s just as much people playing as there was.
If I want to do an event, all I need to do is yell about it on the map chat. I’m seeing plenty of people and we got new content. How did it go downhill?Actually, this was explained by an Arenanet employee that it isn’t indicative of how many players are actively online at that time.
I’m referring to how before Nov15, there was the ever present issue of player congestion in Orr, and that there was simply no reason to go elsewhere in the game. Arenanet’s solution, to introduce FotM, simply solidifies this problem by adding another tier of loot only accessible via one dungeon in the game, with horrendous grind. There’s simply no-one in the mid level areas, and with good reason too.
Then why am I actually seeing people in the mid level areas? No matter what zone I went to there were still people doing events with me. There is still the same population. In level 70-80 zone people are still doing Claw of Jormag in big numbers. You can catch groups doing events in level 50 zones… The only less populated place is 2/3 maps of Orr and even then I’ve seen 6 people there. Starter areas are booming in population too.
I want to see a time stamp on those photos or your just making crap up. Anyone can post a photo and claim it’s from a certain time when it doesn’t have a time stamp.
people who are “playing the market” aren’t.
they are ripping off other players to line their pockets.
“flipping” is not a mini-game.
You just made me spit my drink out laughing. People who don’t know how to use this type of TP/AH are letting themselves get ripped off.
if everyone who was spending all day and night cuddling the TP merchant would actually go out and play the actual game,
there would be plenty of cheap mats in the TP.Anet needs to restrict market manipulation, otherwise everything will just get more and more expensive – flip after flip after flip…
Another “REGULATE EVERYTHING” fix. Really?
So that the TP will be useless for everyone? 90% of items right now sell for 1 copper over what you can sell them to a vendor. If everyone is forced to go out and farm then everything will be like this.
You really think ArenaNet has the time to sit and monitor what people are doing? They are taking long enough to fix important bugs that have been in this game for months as it is.
You forgot something krojack. You really think ArenaNet is actually fixing any of the old bugs with the way they keep pumping out events to try and cover their old screwups?
Did you see how many people did the Lost Shores event once we knew that spending 2 hours in the event chain for 4-5 exotics was the reward? People wanted to do that event. Right now there is no motivation to do anything except sit in LA and stare at the screen.
Most people didn’t know that (I didn’t, was this mentioned somewhere before?), they just wanted to participate in an epic event. If you cannot motivate yourself to do anything else than grind, that’s entirely not the game’s fault.
Nice way to change the poster of your quote. Too bad anyone can view my post history and see I didn’t post that though.
PS: I give you 1 point for creativity
hotfixes don’t require a patch, and the solution was very simple. The hatchery was a complex problem to my understanding (I didn’t fix it personally), and Bjarl will be fixed in the next patch. If you had to fight Bjarl every time in every path, that might get elevated to a bigger issue worthy of an emergency patch since it blocked an entire dungeon.
There are farms available in the game, but when a farm comes up that spikes charts and can upset the economy, we try to act quickly.
I’m starting to believe you don’t understand how your own game works.
You act quickly when you see spikes that can upset the economy? Really? How long was it since the karka event finale? I’m pretty sure it was less than 2 weeks ago. Did you forget what happened there already?
A lot of people randomly got a legendary base weapon that sells for 100-300 gold on the TP, some of these people got TWO base weapons and made 400 gold for 10 minutes of effort. Are we to assume ANet thinks giving people this much money for 10 minutes of effort is healthy for the game, but having people being able to make a few gold per hour for actually working hard and dedicating themselves to playing the game is “upsetting the economy”?? Are you kidding me?
Where are the metrics that say “well maybe giving random people 400+ gold for 10 minutes of work would damage the economy”? Why do you think having people get 400+ gold for no work causes no damage but having people make a few gold for hard work is so damaging it has to be removed from the game?
Please explain this to me because I’m dumbfounded by your words.
Another hero. Yes it’s my multipost day.
This is the biggest upset I have had with ANET in the past 7 years of playing their games. I have no hope for getting my legendary now. What ever happened to no grinding in the game? First you take away Plinx. That literally killed Cursed Shore. Then to put life back into dungeons so we aren’t speed clearing them you make bosses drop these special bags and loot. You want people to do your dungeons? Make. It. Worth. The. Time. We shouldn’t have to spend an hour and a half in Arah for 6 blues, 3 greens, 20-60 tokens, and 1800 karma. Did you see how many people did the Lost Shores event once we knew that spending 2 hours in the event chain for 4-5 exotics was the reward? People wanted to do that event. Right now there is no motivation to do anything except sit in LA and stare at the screen.
The most money this farm brought in per hour was 4g for my group. That’s not that much when mats are 30s a piece and we need 250-500 of Powerful Bloods/Ectos/Dust/Icy Runestones. If it all comes down to how much money is being earned per hour, you better get rid of the trading post as well. You’re slowly pushing the best profit in this game towards buying off of one of those Chinese gold selling websites. Fix it.
To those who say you haven’t grinded at all, quit sucking up to ANET. Be honest and tell the truth. ANET, you have done a great job with this game. But the things you have promised us are falling apart. There is still a massive amount of grind.
My hero here
Why are you all so angry about killing a farm?
This game just done a vertical progression and get an VERY angry response for that (at least in AMA about 1/15 of the questions wasn´t someone angry with ascended gear). I f they get their lesson it will not repeat.
So if we will not have vertical progression WHY did you want so much to have to farm=grind like crazy? Sell your gold IRL (there are people like these so a valid question)? Personal satisfaction? Are you in a hurry to get bored in this game so you can play another? Have a lot of money just to buy a skin?
Eventually everyone who plays this game will get top gear and there will be newbies who will look to you like look to a god. Just play the game.
And if you are curious about how i get my money, a bunch o T6, my exotics and even my rares. I just play the game, do some dungeons, get some gear, go to some low level maps and do dailies, even help some newbies found POIs, WP and Vistas with my explorer title.
I know that it´s difficult to drop the grind and try to enjoy game, all other MMO just teach us that a game needs grind (and I really don´t understand how this game are so grind need) and if you don´t farm you will be a looser. Just stop grind.
We’ll let you know when we want to conform to your way of “enjoying” the game til then get back to the bench.
Haha, he and I have talked about it before! I’m sure he’s well aware how I, and a huge chunk of the community, feel about Arah’s rewards, and he’s also mentioned that he’s looking into it with his design team. I think that this farm got taken advantage of so readily is solid evidence in support of buffing Arah’s ending rewards sooner rather than later, but maybe I’m being a little too hopeful.
We’ve been saying this for months. Ole Rob has failed to do anything beneficial for us regarding dungeons and instead has done nothing or made them worse. He should go and take some pointers from some D&D DM guides on how to make a rewarding dungeon since looking at how other MMOs set theirs up was too hard for him.
That’s what Eurogamer.net said about GW2 in their recent review:
“In fact, Guild Wars 2 is by far the most important – and plain enjoyable – massively multiplayer game since 2004’s World of Warcraft. At long last, it’s the changing of the guard.”
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-18-guild-wars-2-review
We are making history here.
Yeah it was possible at the time but lets face it. After numerous unresolved issues and with Anets admittance of things that should have been at launch (which has lead to the new belief that they rushed it out of development before it was ready) but wasn’t this game now has claimed the title of “The Game That Should Have Been”
If Anet won’t remove the sidekick system entirely, then I wish they at least adjust it so that in any map say 20 lvls below you, the downscaling ceases to exit.
That would suck, then we’d have 80’s coming in an roflstomping the Shadow Behemoth and other bosses and events that are supposed to be challenging. Yeah, the down scaling does make you feel weaker, but overall it is more of a positive thing than a negative. Personally, I don’t need to feel like some uber powerful guy romping through the newbie zones to boost my ego anyway.
Shadow Behemoth challenging? I could be stark drunk and the kitten fight would still be insanely easy compared to world boss in other MMOs.
While I see what you’re saying this “the whole game is endgame” cliche is over used and inaccurate marketing mumbo jumbo and saying it is just as asinine.
It is often quoted… but it is not a cliche.
They said you were in the end game from level one. And they were right.
What’s “assinine”, is people who expected an “end game” to suddenly materialise once they reached level 80. An “end game” that was different to the game they’d been playing before reaching level 80.
Fine, call it what you want. Call an elephant a deer, I don’t care. Doesn’t make the elephant a deer.
Much as I love this game, the entire game is not “endgame.”
They just need to say there is no endgame other than farming and grinding and be honest about it.
I have to agree with this guy but will iterate further. Their “Endgame Reimagined” isn’t what they say it is. Where they like to state endgame starts at the beginning it just flat out doesn’t exist AT all.
Anet is making the game they want to make. If you think you can make a better game, go make one. We need more good games out there. But bashing a game anonymously and then demanding a response demonstrates an overinflated ego. You are not owed a response.
Paying Consumers ALWAYS deserve a response to a defective product.
Then call your lawyer and bring a lawsuit. You will be laughed out the door.
Yeah thought the same when one man brought one up on NCsoft for making a game he got addicted to apparently. and what’s funny about this is the judge allowed it to go to court.
+1.
I think ArenaNet, no matter what their stated intentions, has to acknowledge that a large part of their player base has taken this (the introduction of Ascended gear etc) as a less-than-positive change and a move away from the philosophy expressed in the Manifesto.
CCP listened to EVE Online players when they were unhappy with the direction the game was taking with the Incarna expansion, and went back to focusing on what mattered to the players. I hope that ArenaNet can do the same.
I +1 your quote and response but you already stated the difference between these two companies. CCP which listens to its players also has them get involved which is why the CSM was formed. Anet on the other hand hardly listens at all and refuses to let the players get involved. Although I don’t think they could form anything as groundbreaking as CCP’s CSM which was pure genius

Sounds like we need help from Anonymous.
On a more serious note +1 for the OP
(edited by Ned Stark.9356)
but if i POST on forums its because i like the game.
I post because I hope ANet will listen and improve the game so I can finally get my 60 dollar’s worth. Hopefully before the world ends. Unless ANet gives me a refund, I don’t have money to spend on another game so I need to hope they will make the game worth playing.
They can only make so much content at one time people burn threw it and then need something new to do.
Wish people would stop saying that, I didn’t burn through content at all, there is so much I haven’t done. I play games with 30 or so hours of content and I repeat them over and over and over and over for more than 15 years now, having the time of my life each time. Lack of “new content” is not an issue to me. I feel no need to ask for more content.
I didn’t burn through GW2 content at all, I still only have one Lv 80 and it took me so long to get her there. By the time I did my friends already had 2 or 3 Lv 80s and had done map completion, wooooooooow!
I agree with this guy but won’t hold my breath. apparently Anets answer to all of our problems is “…….” until they come out with the next game killing patch and then rinse and repeat. And from the lack of responses from the Anet Dev team it seems more like they’re not even going to attempt to even fix the current bugs that are plaguing the game but will instead implement an entire new batch to try and make us forget the old ones.
Best thing for them to do now is either stop ALL current development projects and have the ENTIRE team focused on fixing the issues that have been around since launch (or even before launch), fire their current staff which seems incapable of doing anything and hire some decent ones, or as a last resort turn the game and all rights to it over to a company that can actually make it a decent game worth the 60 bucks since they apparently can’t even do that.
Anyone who even THINKS about using these words “well it’s only been out for a few months” or “give them more time” and my personal favorite “they have a different team for each category” should stow it. These excuses are like butts. Everyone has one and they all stink.
If I were ArenaNet, I wouldn’t want to depend on hype and risk broken promises. For example, I remember when Diablo III came out, Blizzard stated they were working on a PvP system for patch 1.1. That has yet to happen. I had a lot of friends who actually bought Diablo III expecting a PvP system soon after launch.
I also remember EA talking about how they were working on guild capital ships for the Old Republic soon after the game was released. That has also yet to happen.
ArenaNet already talked about how they were considering things like a dueling feature and were working on guild battles, a ranking system, and more enjoyable dungeons. Not sure what else you want from them.
They already risked things on hype and we got the broken promises. Now all thats left of the game are the fanatical devotees, the army of bots, and a game flawed beyond comprehension. “Mission Accomplished” as Bush once said.
I agree only thing I would change is that it NOT be made by Anet after this flop
This over 2 million copies sold flop eh?
This 5 star reviewed mistake?
This outselling MoP screw up?
jeez, you are right, this game flopped so bad it altered the fabric of time and made itself a commercial success.OH WAIT!
Outsold MoP? You must be joking. According to statictics GW2 sold a little over 2mil in 2 weeks. MoP topped it by selling 2.7mil in ONE week.
Oh lets not forget that some of those “5” star reviews have been retracted such as Gamespys’ latest Guild Wars 2 article on the botting issue.
I think what everyone is forgetting to input when doing their calculations are all the bots currently clogging the PVE and WvW zones.
It wasnt an error on their side, the OP stated that his mouse sometimes double clicks. How is it their fault?
This is what the OP is talking about:
The superior runes from dungeon vendors doesn’t mention “soulbound” in the vendor tooltip, but they’re in fact soulbound on acquire.
Me and some other players bought this items on wrong characters but it isn’t obviously a player’s mistake.
So yes the fault lies with Anet. Be a little more attentive.
better yet, this sounds like a very interesting idea for an mmo, though i doubt Anet would do this since the game is already made, make this into a new MMO.
about piratesspace pirates
space pirates with cannons.
and quaggan
I agree only thing I would change is that it NOT be made by Anet after this flop
Yareon I wouldn’t hold my breath on them replacing it. Hell I bet they wouldn’t even admit it was their mistake and would edit their copy/paste reply of
(Customer Support does not do refunds as the purchase was the player´s mistake and not something created or cause by a bug or internal error.) to
(Customer Support does not do refunds as the purchase was the player´s mistake of being misled by developers and not something created or cause by a bug or internal error.)
I would have to agree with Gank here. The holy trinity was a much more stable system and has been proven and tested. People who complained about the holy trinity are just those who didn’t have to skills to do their part. GW2s trinity (which I will dub as the “Chaotic Trinity”) has no real foundation as to what determines even vague roles. As someone who holds the Dungeon Master title all of the dungeons are a complete joke and an insult as an MMORPG and YES it is defined as an MMORPG
Strange.
Our guild just had a massive influx of people coming over from Runes of Magic. I see continous overflows in Lions Arch again. There’s people running all over the world, including the mid-level zones around 50.
And all of this after transferring to this server with the guild a week or two after launch because of the long queues for WvW on our old server that was much, much more densely populated.
Clearly, the game is dying. Abandon ship!
I see a little brown on your nose
