Entering fractals cause game client crash

Hello,
Everything is in the title; for a few weeks now everytime I try to enter the fractal lobby my game client crash.

It happens right after the fractal loading screen. There is no bug report from the game, but only the classic Windows “Gw2-64 has stopped working …”

you’re a revenant, just take the traits and skills that let you stack resistance and send the confusion back

if you’re playing against dire+perplexity and it’s common in the meta just run a build that either spams cleanses or sends it all back or both

The trait is actually working as intended (25% chance to apply torment), but the tooltip is incredibly inaccurate.

That said, I don’t think it’s GM worthy with a 15s ICD. How does 10s sound?

Does not sound like a tooltip issue to me. More like, no time to fix, let’s change the description.

And seriously, 15s or even 10s ICD for 1 stack of torment, on a GM trait, that is just underwhelming.

I run a condi focused rev in wvw. Its not the most beautiful, but I’ve got 2 of every class, so I can afford to experiment.

Since Trailblazer is expensive, you can swap around Carrion and Dire to get the numbers you might want and get the condition duration from other places.

You indicated Pulsating Pestilence in your builds. For all condi revenant out there, keep in mind that this trait is not working at all. Instead of copying your conditions on nearby foes, it only pulse 1 stack of torment (as the mallyx elite skill) and that’s it.

DH problem is not the traps....

2 Fixes.

1) Actually fix invisble traps when you saw you did this time
2) It is stupid asf that you get knocked down when you blink out of LB5/Maw. Plz change.

Same thing happens with Ranger and lightning reflexes, it knocks you out of your stun breaker. It is stupid busted. Must have enough defense to survive the inevitable burst. Hence bunker meta.

Same things with all thief’s ports and shadowsteps.
It’s not that DH is OP, but some mechanichs are seriously off the charts. LB5/Maw for example, assuming you didn’t dodge/evade it, is just a “stay there for 6sec while I nuke the kitten out of you” button.
Inb4, not all class have access to stab/invuln.

Stomp Bug?

This happens to me a lot.

I think it’s relevant to the animation bug. As stomps animation never actually plays right for me.

The thing i learned, is to stand there and not move for an extra second longer.

sometimes that’s enough to get the stomp.

Other times I throw my mouse against a wall, because now I’m being 2 v 1’d by the scrapper I downed and the rev that came to try and save him.

Now every time I try to stomp, I hold still for few seconds after the animation finished, thinking maybe I had quickness, or slow, and didn’t see it …

But, often the stomp don’t land afterall.

Same thing here, on 64 and 32bits clients on Win7 64bits.

Moreover my game client keep having connection errors and reset after a few minutes in game. It happens since today.

Daredevil is strong and if a DD lost to you with condi cleanse on evade this DD is not very good.

May be decent if played by competent player. Nonetheless, a vast majority of DD out there seem to have only 2 keys available on their keyboard : either Dodge and Vault, or Dodge and DeathBlossom.

And, if Daredevil is strong, then what are Reaper, DragonHunter, Herald, Scrapper … the list goes on. Maybe supersayian strong or something.

IMHO, the old DA/SA/TR meta build is still the best in a competitive context.

Bumping this out of the 25th page.

I downloaded the 64bits beta client, and the red artifacts are still present.

I found out this bug comes from the post processing pass. Disabling the post processing in video settings removed the artifact.

Setting the postprocessing on anything else make the artifact to reappear.

Thief in Raids

I’ll have you know that we’ve done the raid at 10 with 4 thieves, and manage to go to the last boss. Then wipe in chain at his feet.

The 2 others were pugs.

Thieves were very welcome at the blue boss for boon stripping on 20sec CD.

Thieves are not needed in raids, but can manage to perform well. Even if other classes can fill the same role, with better sustain, support and all, does not mean we are excluded from it.

Where did you see that ? SoA cleanses only 1 condi on the thief itself.

Tooltip :
Signet Active : Refills endurance and cure a condition for each nearby allies.

Let’s get this out of the way: I don’t main thief. I’ve never been able to master the finese of perfectly managing my initiative but knowing that I can’t; I admire those who can rock this class even more than any other. As of late, there’s been a fairly significant drop in people on thief, and those who are playing it aren’t contributing as much to their team as they have in the past. “Why is this?” I found myself asking. I, for the most part (there are always exceptions), beat thieves to a pulp in pvp, duels which is a new thing since the change from traits to specialisations. So let’s take a look at some of the reasons I found why thieves got, arguably nerfed.

Thieves didn’t get any traits made baseline during the change. Many of the classes, most notably mesmer, had traits made baseline, giving them an all round buff to the class. Steal was increased in range by 300 and the recharge was reduced but that was it. The change to deadly arts has essentially made it required to take for any thief build. I think mug needs to be made baseline since it increases survive and damage, so there is literally no reason not to have it. Before it required 2 trait points which was fairly minor and many classes had a trait or two that needed one or two trait points but needing the entire line for it so your build options are dropped drastically. Trickery’s minor traits, grandmaster one not with standing, could also be made baseline on the argument that it’s hard to not take for the bonus initiative.

There is no way to remove conditions outside of shadow arts and even then its just damaging ones. First of all, most DPS classes have a way to deal with weakness where thieves don’t. Thieves really need some way to get rid of weakness since its a hard counter and it has been made easy to apply with cleave skills. Secondly, there’s no way to rapidly remove condis. The remove in stealth trait has been reduced to 1condi per 3s and that’s going to do nothing next to nothing for survive. The only skill that really removes condis for thief is shadow step but that won’t help much against, say, a necro or a burn guard. It really weakens thieves to not have a solution for condis, especially when a lot of abilities now don’t require a target to apply them.

There’s little potential for on point fighting. Thieves have always been bad at this but with acrobatics being turned into what is essentially a worse daredevil, there isn’t exactly an option. Sword dagger was annoying but it was on par with d/p or considered worse and its the one that got the nerf. Now there is daredevil which can fight on point but in no where near the same level, as say, a revenant. Also daredevil plays like an offbrand revenant. It has little stealth, about the same to worse dodge potential, equal mobility, and less damage with out any of the survive. You could say rev needs a nerf, which it does, but even if that happens daredevil still won’t get used as much since it lacks survivability.

Lastly, and most notably, is the introduction of reveal. Being able to reveal a thief for 6 or more seconds is more than enough to kill a thief and between engineers and revs, there is a lot of reveal to go around. There was nothing added to the thief to compensate for this, and that hurts them a lot more than anything. It would be like adding a skill that prevented blocking party wide. Better yet imagine if there was a skill that prevented a necro from using death shroud or, don’t, because it exists and its called moa morph (or signet of humility). Now imagine if it could be used on a 40s cool down. That’s basically what thieves have to deal with. Now, I am going to say, I like the addition of reveal but something should have been done to thieves to make up for it, since I can on my herald use glints gaze 2 more times than a theif can use sr.

If only Karl could have this epiphany.

There is no such things as balance for thieves since 23rd june 2015.

Go look for yourself in spvp, around which the game is supposed to be balanced :

Power creep, power creep everywhere.
And here rest the thief, killed by a smokescale ranger’s pet.

And, if you still can’t see the irony of all these “NERF THIEVES PLS” posts, here are other ones :
Thieves can steal classes spells that do not exist in these classes (mesmer, ele) => OP, nerf please.
Thieves can stealth at will => OP
Thieves have no CD on weapons skills => OP

Shadowstep/steal is ridiculous

The funny thing is that you can easily shadowstep on higher floor (Kyhlo’s tower clock roof for example), but get a “no valid path” when shadowstepping on an almost flat floor.

And when it comes to shadowstepping on stairs in wvw keeps or towers (or steal someone on stairs), it’s just not possible.

In the new HoT PVE maps, and in the guild hall, the rendered game randomly appears pixellated with red square. Moving the camera on top of the character seems to remove the glitch, moving the camera anywhere else make the glitch reappear.

I know it’s a poor bug report, but this artifact is hard to describe.
I also should have taken a screenshot, but at first i thought it was an intended design
I’ll try to reproduce it and screen ASAP

teleports actually bypass alot of things without a problem (test of faith, dragon’s maw, wells, walls, etc)

Just so you know, rings (static field, ring of fire for example) and traps are triggered by teleports.

Tbh it’s a lot fun as a thief shadowsteping behind a DH and get instakill by traps you did not even cross, but appeared to be between the shadowstep startpoint and endpoint.

Shadowstep crossing rings or barriers

If I’m on the receiving end, I don’t want Thieves shadowstepping into my barrier making it useless — if that happens, then that’s a real problem.

That would be a problem indeed, but at the moment shadowstepping into/outo a traps and rings works as intended : you trigger and get the damage/CC.

The (maybe) unintended behaviour is that when shadowstepping over a trap or ring :

Thief —-—-Traps/Rings———ShadowStep endpoint

You trigger and take full damage, without actually crossing the trap.

This was already frustrating with Ele’s static field, where you cannot go out of it with shadowstep without being CCed at the ShadowStep endpoint. But with DH traps hype, if you find yourself unfortunately Shadowstepping over one (not into), you are just dead.

You need to picture shadowstep as if the Thief is the Flash. From our perspective, he teleported from point A to point B, but in reality, he’s simply moving too fast for us to see him walked to point B. Then you’ll understand why Thieves get burn when shadowstepping out of ring of fire.

In this case, why don’t we take AOE damage when shadowstepping over one ? For example, i can quietly Shadowstep over a necro mark without triggering it.

A dev response will be welcomed here, to clarify the situation.

From the current state of the game, I think that Thieves and Warriors could use some buffing. It doesn’t matter if I am on DH or on Scrapper, those two classes do not threaten me at all. You can ignore their contribution to a fight.

Maybe there’s hope after all.

mesmer stack mainly 2 condi torment and confusion so just 1 withraw remove them both

Isn’t the Escapist Absolution trait supposed to cleanse only on successful dodge roll, not on successful evades ?

I assume you have the Trickster trait to remove 1 condition on tricks utilities, but how can you cleanse 2 condition with withdraw ?

Either it’s a bug, or the Escapist absolution tooltip is not correct (or I misinterpreted it). But from the Dev responses on BWE feedbacks, it seemed that this trait would trigger only on evade from dodge rolls.

Thief Meta

I have been discussing this matter with fellow thieves of my guild (wvw oriented mostly).

In a WvW focus party context we agreed that the meta d/p + shortbow with DA/TR/SA won’t change much, except maybe for gear (adding some vitality to compensate the guard’s buffs loss).

The Shadow Arts Traits are too much of a must have, for quick stealth rez, Shadow Embrace obviously, the damage mitigation, and regen.

Trickery is on the same spot, the augmented INI pool, Stun on F1, and F1 cooldown reduction are mandatory.

Deadly Arts, synergize extremely well with Trickery, with Mug, and Improvisation.

In the end, I don’t see any room to put the new elite spec DD.
Even if it may give good mobility and little sustain, it won’t come as handy as Shadow Arts in terms of condi cleanse, regen, and survivability.

Feel free to contradict though.

I play main thief in wvw focus party / zerg context, and will continue to do so despite the current poor situation of the class.

Because of :

  • Mobility, ports and stealth
  • Risky gameplay : (for me it is the only class to offer such intense fights, where you have to be always focus and watchful to have a chance to win) – the downside being, a single mistake often leads to death.
  • The assassin style : punishing foes who don’t stick their zerg with a well placed tpcast backstab.
  • Improvisation : imo it is one of the best trait thief has, the randomness adds fun and breaks the regularity and monotony of a typical encounter. Plus, who doesn’t like a SR + Shadowstep reset.
  • Impact on the group fight : a good thief in focus party can change the course of a battle in both offensive and defensive aspect. Downing ranged class can offer new moves and openings for my zerg. Quickly rezzing downed allies can extend the fight, and this make thief the last chance when someone is downed by the adverse focus party, or downed far from the group.
  • Shadow killer : our ability to down a foe in seconds, disappearing and stomp from stealth
  • Mind games : when against stealth class, or other focus party, playing thief is like a poker gamer ready to All-in on bluff.

That being said, I, as every other thief, still think we severely lack survivability and sustain. And playing thief lately has become a real challenge.

Pistol has 1050 with Ankle Shots.

As it is not even written on the Ankle Shot trait tooltip that there is a range increase, one could say it is not supposed to be 1050 (or 1200 for shadow shot), but 900 indeed.

Something else has also just occurred to me.

If RNG is bad, why is Improvisation a thing?
I’ve never even heard of anyone using it, on any build, because it’s too unpredictable to be useful.

A little out of topic but to answer this particular question:

I use improvisation in both pvp & wvw, and imho it’s way better and funnier to play with than executionner.
Executioner increase your damage by 20% when your foe hp goes under 50%. Fine, you deal more damage and hope killing your foe as fast as possible when he is low hp.

The improv on the other hand, give you more mobility (resetting withdraw OR shadowstep + Shadow refuge OR a signet – agility for me -, or CC with basilisk venom) and more sustain with the doubled stolen spell.

Imagine the face of the guy who sees you shadowstep or SR twice in a few seconds, or even better, use your heal twice in a row.

To be efficient, this build require to steal on class with interesting stolen spell. For example in a Wvw group fight context, I find particularly fun to steal a war, and take down a whole bunch of caster with a well timed tpcast double whirling axe. Or on a mesmer, and have all boons twice.

It’s definitely a gameplay choice, but since i tried this build out, i’d never go back to executioner again.

heartseeker mobility nerf

All movement based skill now are not impacted by speed modifier. It has been like that since 23rd june patch, if i recall right.

This means, heartseeker, as every movement based skill (leaps/dodge skill …) has a fixed traveled distance, not modified by swiftness nor by chill.

Since when do we steal downed state skills from a living character ? Seriously, among the number of skills the revenant has access to, we steal a downed one … with an “improved” 1s slow.

Waouh, even stealing from bunnies seems way better than this.

Hi,

After updating teamspeak client to latest release, and launching overwolf, my game client crashed immediately. It worked perfectly before the teamspeak update (gw2 + overwolf running at the same time).

I tried to launch overwolf first, or gw2 first, the outcome is the same : game client crash on character selection.

I guess this has probably been already suggested, but I can’t find any related post, so here it is :

what : Shadow Refuge Revealed

brief : Shadow refuge pulse stealth stack every seconds. Only problem is, going out of the area instantly apply revealed. I get that other class need to have the option to bump out of the shadow refuge, but there’s no reason why someone going out of the refuge area on purpose should get revealed.

suggestion : Shadow refuge shouldn’t apply revealed when leaving the area deliberately, but only when kicked out of it. That way, thief would have a bit more usefulleness in wvw group fights, allowing shadow refuge to act as mesmer’s veils

Siege weapons blueprints also just disappear after few seconds without doing anything, sometimes it is after around 15 seconds, sometimes instantly after equipped (tried with arrow carts).

WvW gear salvage

now that you already planned for the ascended gear salvage, can we have the same for WvW gear so that we can transfer our expensive runes/sigils to other gear or sell them ? no need for the salvage mats, we only want to recover upgrades. after all, those WvW gear require gold in the first place, so even if the provide salvage mats, it wouldn’t matter much anyway,

can we get response from A-Net on this matter? ever ?

That would be great indeed.

I have half of one bank tab filled with Wvw gear with force rune. Took me some time before realizing WvW gears could not be salvaged, and i suppose I am far from being the only one.

I put together a fix for a pretty nasty performance issue on our game servers. This should make it into our next release so I’d be curious to see if it makes a noticeable improvement. The bug looks like it was introduced around when this thread popped up.

I also got a couple client improvements that should help reduce framerate hitching with lower-mid range video cards and/or higher shader settings. Coming next release, too.

Who plays WvW only?

I, as many people I know in gw2, play almost only WvW.
Let say only 90% of the time, because :

  • leveling to 80
  • queue (waiting in PVE map)
  • gold and material farm in PVE (world boss, dungeons)
  • crafting food and gear (take some time in PVE to craft a full ascended gear in order to opti raid in wvw)
  • testing build / sigil / gear synergy in PvP

All right, there’s technically no one playing wvw only … simply because that is not doable.

Hi, fellow thieves, and Anet team (if eventually, you guys read this post …).

I’ve played thief since the beginning of gw2, and as all of us, I am really disappointed by the recent disappearing of the Ricochet trait.

I’ve never been a great fan of P/P build, but I enjoyed having this trait in roaming D/P. The mechanism of this trait was not only fun, but gave awesome control with headshot, mobility using shadow shot on group of ennemies and brought confusion (not the condi) between them (2 or 3 teleport and let’s play where is Waldo).

I couldn’t agree more that we need ricochet back.

Moreover, I can’t stop myself to ask : how can a trait just be removed, without any word from Anet, nor in the patch note or anywhere else, and without any contribution on this post just to have a beginning of explanation.

How then can you, Anet, write things like :
“We are committed to our players and believe we remain the single best value in the MMO space. […] It is to our community—past, present, and future—that we are committed. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you in game.”
Well, removing a trait beloved by the thiefs PVEers and not even taking care of warn or explain why, is a huge proof of commitment to your player/community.
