I actually dislike the question in TESO. It is simply the same over and over again and you HAVE to do it. Unlike GW2 where you can level by doing whatever you want to do.

H0T has added a huge pile of gates and timers, so GW2 feels a lot more gated than TESO now.

TESO is an adventure story game, so it’s hard to compare to what used to be an open world ‘play how you like’ game.

I liked the upgrade system in TESO- getting the materials wasn’t that hard. I found the buy/sell interface terrible for actually finding what I wanted.

WvW on TESO was a huge disappointment- the areas were just too big to move around in and it took forever to reach a battle, then the broken werewolf or was it vampire thing…the actual sieges to take place were awesome though.

They are very different games- but with the recent move in GW2 towards ‘play where we tell you’ and gating thing behind timers and events and Jump Puzzles, other games are looking at lot more appealing now. Maybe it’s time to dust off my old ESO accounts..

This is making me not want to even log in now.

I’m left with :

A huge JP, collect 4 items- if you fall you die and have to leave the instance and run all the way back and find which entrance is currently spawned/open.

Triple trouble- not found a map with is even active on.

Karka Queen- never on when event chain is up to that point and in the right map or able to spot a taxi (seems not many doing this).

Two achievements on TEq that are complete gimmicks – again, long wait and chance of getting in map, just to have a chance at doing it.

Wardrobe- not got the 700 gold or whatever it costs to get that one.

SW and DT ones- impossible endless basically Jump Puzzles to collect tokens to complete collections.

Story Mode- need to repeat stories and watch guides to figure out how to complete the 9 achievements in each section to complete to get one mastery point.

The problem is, my exp bar is almost full on last leg of legendary crafting thing, so doing anything else just pushes the bar, so i feel like I have to try and do stuff I really don’t want to do in order to try and get the masteries, or I’ll be wasting millions of exp I will then have to grind in pve for later.

H0T is no better- there I’m stuck facing time gated and event gated (ie you can’t even access them most of the time, never mind do them) ‘adventures’ or ‘mini-games’ that you must get at least silver in to get a mastery point. They all involve timers (I hate timed anything, I’m playing a game to relax and enjoy myself not have to try and get my body to do things it can’t in a time period affected by mechanics and lags).

To top it all off, it’s not always clear when looking ingame at your achievements list whether you have already completed something on another toon and hence are wasting time trying to complete a story line.

It’s got to the stage I don’t feel like logging in.

As far as I’m concerned the decision to gate so many mastery points behind what are effectively JPs was a bad one,

This game isn't as grindy as other MMOs

So for like 3 years I have been saying Anet has to do something about the grind. Also saying that with HoT players will come back, feel the grind and might leave again, something you for sure do not want with your first expansion. As they will not come back for the second one if they now leave again.

And for that what some people consider required vs optional grind does not matter at all. People feeling grind is the problem.

Anyway, I just found a perfect example of that.

Back around launch I used to watch Tales of Tyria, a youtube show about GW2. The show and the guild that helped with the show pretty much left in April of 2013.

I just happen to see they have started a new show because just before the launch of HoT they (the show and the guild) came back. And lo and behold. Pretty much the first thing they talk about in the first episode (since their back) is the grind.

It’s just the perfect example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUpJ7G_Ey6g (19:00 > 33:00) of what I am talking about.

So people can have all these discussions about required grind and none required grind (all grind is optional anyway) but it does not matter even a little. People feeling grind is the problem.

And let me go a step further.. You could remove the grind by removing the rewards, like they did with dungeons. But that does also not help if you still need the rewards / currency.

You just have to make specific rewards for specific content so you do content for its rewards instead of doing things that reward you the best currency that you need to buy all the items you want.

Just wanted to throw that example in here. I think it’s a good show to follow also to see how people who left and now come back, look at the game. What is very important to know.

Sure those who originally played this game, in part, don’t like the changes made to the game. But that doesn’t mean people don’t like it, even if some of the original people don’t.

You’re talking about the most vested fans making a podcast. You’re talking about a generation of people trained to play other MMOs. They wanted X and got Y. But that doesn’t mean people aren’t playing Y.

There are absolutely people disenfranchised and they’re loud, sure. But there are absolutely people having fun too, who aren’t as loud because they have no reason to be.

What you’re saying is looking I can point out an example that proves I’m right. No one said some people aren’t happy and aren’t playing. But the game is doing well, by all reports. We’ll see how well in six months.

I think you’ll be surprised.

I am talking about a player-base that did shrink, now comes back with the expansion and you don’t want to shrink (that much) again. Thats all.

Up until the announcement of HoT income was consistently shrinking. It was not at a bad point but when it would continue that line it would become back. Now you have a spike because of the expansion and clearly there will be a drop of players as well. However you don’t want that drop to go to the point where it was just before the announcement of HoT and then continue to go down as it did.

With HoT you want to also get members back that this time around do stay.

Okay, the game goes free to play. It gets a boatload of new players, some of which convert to HoT some of which don’t.

It’s better value for them because they lose restrictions on their free to play account.

You lose some people due to attrition for whatever reason, you gain a base from people that are free to play.

Those that don’t like the changes leave and those that do, take up the expansion To me that’s business as usual.

When I ran a business we lost and gained customers all the time. So yes, all MMOs have natural attrition. WoW, Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy, all of them. They’re all losing market share. An expansion comes out and they gain a bit and then start losing again. It’s the cycle.

The specific numbers are far more important than any annecdote. My guild has about the same traffic now that it did before, but it’s not all the same people.

Some guys had left because the game was too easy. they’re back. Some people who liked the game don’t play as much because it’s too much “work”.

Saying some people aren’t happy with the expansion isn’t a revelation to anyone. Did you see comments on the last WOW expansion? The same thing happened. It happens in every game.

The numbers are far more important than just knowing that some people are leaving. We’ll know the numbers, not in three months, but more like six.

It will never be cut and dry unfortunately due to the nature of not having a sub.

People cancel subs when not playing, it’s much easier to see how active or inactive your playerbase is (yes, some people forget and or don’t care about paying subs when inactive) but usually if you’re not playing, you’re not paying.

With GW, currently most of the people I’ve been playing with over the years sign in for 15 seconds and claim their daily chest (with the long term goal being, “well maybe it will get good”). Then when monthly active numbers roll around, you won’t have a good representation of who are actually in-game playing (3.1m half of which are F2P).

Depends on how you measure your numbers.

Numbers for ‘logged in for more than an hour a day’ would show a faction of the number of ‘active accounts’, which counts anyone who logged in during however long a period they use. For instance, if I log in, say, 6 accounts (remember those $10 days) just for the daily and maybe one vet mob guarding a box, that counts as 6 active ‘players’.

Would be interesting to see some figures for retention based on a reasonable time span in game and also how many F2P player convert.

Grind is defined by what you feel it is. For me, trying to do a JP over and over again is the most boring tedious frustrating grind – for someone else, this might be something they skip through in five minutes whilst waiting for the kettle to boil.

Does the game contain a lot more activities that require repetition, time gating, event gating, laurel gating and gating behind JPs than there were at launch? Yes. To anyone other than the utterly besotted that’s more grind.

Ahh, for a moment there I thought I’d found a mastery point not gated behind jump puzzles- spoons.

Then I realised you need to kill trash mobs in a lvl10+ fractal (yep, you guessed it…), and also 40 laurels and 50 ectos for another one of them.

My other post listing the deep joy I was experiencing in Tyria on masteries got , um, ‘moved’…

So might get that one in a month or so if I remember next time laurels = more than 40.

Nope. First spoon in collection gated behind some event, NPC that sells it isn’t there.

Time for bed. Wish I had logged into something else this evening, there has been no fun in my leisure time tonight.

WvW Defense is Making a Rebound

So, one guild spent all that money to claim something and put something on it. How long did it last until flipped?
How long until enemy realises something has tactics bought on it, and ensure it flips during the huge hours of deadness that exist on most BLs?
How much does it cost to a. get the guild to that level and b. each time you use it, compared to how much you ‘make’ in wvw standing around defending the object.
Unless you can make more from defending than it costs to upgrade in this way, it’s unsustainable longer term.(ie, another gimmick).

Honestly? I didn’t keep track of how much. Not for the scribing to 388 where I’ve stopped for now. Not for the guild hall. Not for the siege.

For one, I was too lazy to bother.
For two, I didn’t want to get into arguments over how much I’ve spent. Those become kitten debates that I have no interest in being a part of.

Mostly, we wanted to have fun, so we did what we needed to do to have the fun we wanted to have. We used 3 speedy dolyaks, 2 Dune Cycles, 3 armored yaks, a chilling fog, a hardened gate, and a hardened siege on reset night. How much did it cost? Not sure. A lot of the mats are graciously donated by our guild and I tend to buy flax fibers by the stack to fill in and don’t really keep track.

Why did we do it? Because it was how we wanted to have fun that reset night. And we did. It was a blast. It made the borderlands feel like the did before HoT. It was totally awesome. Great fights, great fun.

I don’t know how long it lasted after we logged. At some point we’ll get back to the place where a fully upgraded/improved keep will get the attention that a waypointed Bay or Hills used to get. We’re not there yet, but lack of coverage never stopped me from upgrading bay, and it won’t stop me from having fun on the new BL’s either.

To be honest the lack of ‘OMG CATS ON WP HILLS’ is kind of nice and relaxing. We can have fun on our own terms. Given that I’ve personally scribed, if not personally funded, 90% or more of the slotted upgrades that TC has so far placed into claimed objectives, I’m in the best position to be disappointed about losing them, and I’m not.

It’s how we’ve decided to have fun, and so far, it’s a blast.

Anet should have you on their Xmas list for spending all the money for gems to convert to gold to be able to get scribe that high and pay for all those upgrades:-) Either that or you spend the majority of your life in pve farming..

I’m not against you doing so (it pays for the game to keep running, after all), but for most wvw players that kind of expense day in day out just to use a few boosts in wvw is very expensive.

You highlight another issue too. If you happen to leave the game then our guild might not have another scribe anywhere near your level and all those guild upgrades become pointless. I’m waiting for the first ‘guild recruiting scribe, must be 350 or above to apply’ or people offering money to import a scribe to their guild.

I’m glad you had fun on reset night. But really you’ve highlighted a lot of the problems with the new system and the huge cost which puts a lot of people off even trying, especially smaller guilds.

Will they address the issue? Whilst people are popping the card in and buying gems, not a hope.

Rabbitstew.2756 & others , there is no fixing WvW. & all of you are the same ppl crying cuz the world is empty on most servers making it unbalance. When are you going to realize the numbers shows it? & to replace it for an open world pvp? Absolutely. Every body entitle to there opinion. Just yours bin applied for the last 3 years. & look where it’s at now.

So, you think that the fix to a dying game mode is to close it entirely, and have the evs rewrite the ENTIRE game to cater for the few thousand wvw’rs, who could then disappear into the meta server system and try and find anyone who is doing pve that happens to have pvp enabled?

Just because you think open world pvp is a good idea (why does that bring up an image of some spotty kid or socially inept adult hiding in a basement who gets off on ganking pixels..) doesn’t mean we do.

As a mainly wvw player I’d absolutely categorically state I would be 100% against any form of open world pvp in any pve map. The last thing we need is more pve in our wvw maps.

Being able to ‘opt out’ just means your little ganker will switch off as soon as they meet anyone who has a chance at beating them, then come cry on the forums about it.

Anyway, no point debating it, they will not ever devote the resources your idea would need so this thread would be best served by deleting it.

Apparently the OP is off to play Blade and Soul on the 19th and doesn’t care anyway (according to his other posts anyway),

I’d really like to see balance linked to the different game modes, so there are differences between, say CoR in pve, pvp and wvw.

People really don’t have that much of a problem dealing with this- Guild Wars managed to have hundreds of pve only and pvp skills and it worked just fine (along with multiple balance fixes and devs that understood the game mechanics).

Once you split the skills out- let’s face it, each area is effectively an instance, so coding can’t be that hard, Guild Wars managed it- then balancing becomes much easier.

The other things required are skill/build templates so you can swap easily between various modes and builds, and most definitely build and class diversity. They should not allow multiple of one class anywhere near a pvp match or tournament, especially given the current OP for certain builds.

At the moment the matches aren’t worth watching. You’d get a lot more players interested in pvp if you make changes now- if a new player can grab a build from a template and dive in, and then be able to switch back when they enter pve without having to manually change everything, it would encourage a lot more people to try. OK, they are going to be awful at first, but at least they will try and some will like it and get better.

I think you can get everything required to max HoT Masteries with just silvers – they aren’t that bad took me an afternoon to get silver in all of them (except the flying one in VB yuck xD). Have enough Mastery points for everything so you don’t need to bash your head against the wall and go for gold if you don’t want to.

You need 13 silvers to max the mastery lines, if you have managed to get all the other masteries from everything else except raids.

Either you are exceptionally gifted as well as extremely lucky and have a wonderful connection with no ping and are god’d gift to SM8 (ie, all gates were open, nothing blocked by meta event, never missed a jump or glide, etc), or your claim of ‘an afternoon’ is completely bullkitten. Some of them are blocked most of the time and you have to get very lucky to even get in- then kicked out before you complete.

The other problem I’m finding now is even finding where my missing mastery points are without having to spend hours consulting outside databases and comparing to those I have to determine which ones I should have, do have, or can try for.

It’s a well kept secret Junky. All you need to do is complete every wvw achievement (using the old values) and you get an instantly soulbound precursor backpack.

In order to then craft the legendary, you need to gather enormous piles of pve related materials, many of which don’t drop at all, or only on failure, and all are gated behind meta events and other group pve content.

On a positive note, got Queen last night by randomly logging in to a Tier 4 map, having parked my toon at the spot and ‘only’ had to wait 15 minutes or so to get the mob required. 10.30pm at night, logged in to get dailies done and noticed the tier..

I’m trying to collect Tyrian mastery points (mainly wvw player here, but have to grind them out in pve land). This is proving somewhat frustrating, as many are gated (seems to be a common theme in this release).

I’m currently looking at ‘Ruler of Shinies’…minimum level 4 map in Dry Top, so that’s gated behind long multiple events and either searching for the elusive lfg that is doing Dry Top, or just getting lucky that someone is doing DT this week. Not great for my limited unscheduled play time.

Other one I was looking at is ‘going for Gold’ or something in SW, which is basically 30 or something jump puzzle type things to grab some badges. After falling off the rope 4 times, finally got to the platform (yes, it’s SM8- well it could be), then need to jump on to a log in mid air..10 tries later I’ve had enough of Jump Puzzle SM8.2 and just log off in frustration.

1. Stop playing zerk reaper. CC is your friend.
2. learn to play necro. Get some HP and some toughness.
3. repeat steps 1 and 2 until you know what you’re doing.

Seriously, you have two entire HP bars to play with, whereas the thief you just faced is playing ultra zerk low hp build.

When I used to main necro, I practically ignored thiefs, as the chances of one downing me unless I was actually afk was zero.

There is nothing more frustrating in this game right now than being in a large zerg fight, [/cut]

you deserve everything that happens to you.

Whats your point? That WvW shouldn’t be WvW? Or that a 17k hit on a 3 second cooldown is no big deal? Looks like you are just here to troll. Everyone knows Coalescence of Ruin is broken.

the point is, leave the zerg and l2p

We’re talking here about a skill that instakill people with 1 hit and you come here with your biased opinion about how the game should be played. You just want to roam only, fine, but if you think large scale battles do not belong in WvW then you’re just playing the wrong game. But besides that you also have the condescending view that fights between large group are just the result of people karma training when the reality couldn’t be further from the truth.

You’re off topic anyway.

a rifle war can do the same. in an “epic battle” ppl just press 1 1 1 f and a skill like CoR seems to be OP because in the mess that a blob creates you can’t see it even if it is a skill really easy to avoid, so the problem is not the skill itself, but the fact that you can’t avoid it and that’s because you are just blobbing.
maybe if you split up that kittening blob and try to do some decent fights you’ll learn to avoid skills like CoR, but yeah, it’s better to cry and call for nerf

What do you call a ‘decent fight’? 5v5? It’s still almost impossible to avoid CoR more than twice as after that your dodges are on cool down- and that’s if you can even see it coming in the mess that is a typical GW2 pixel fight (with lag and ping issues). Add in a decent engi/mes and a couple CoR spammers and a decent team will wipe you before you even see them. It’s not an issue in spvp because there are few places where CoR functions well and very rare to have more than 2 or 3 maximum players fighting over more than one cap point.

It’s not fun, nor is it decent large scale fight design to have such long range massive damage skills on such a small cooldown and so hard to see.

Rune of Leadership price

Notsoperky.2348

Hi,

I’m doing ds events for some time now to get this rune. By now I’m at about 150 crystalline ores.
Aint 600 ores a very very very little bit to much for sth like a runeset? If it’s a recipe ok, but for runes…
Apart from “farming” the hot-story, where you get 40 in the end, the only way by now is to open pods at dragons stand map. Apart from ~6, they only spawn after map event is completed. This means you need to wait up to one hour to get on a map doing events/ got enought time to start new map, then need about one to 1.5 hours to hopefully finish (seen so many fails last days) it. Now you got a 15min race to find and open all pods. Without a ton of luck this leads to 40 to 50 ores.
So all in all you need to do 15 times the story with different characters, or do 13 times success on ds meta event (without dc!!!). For ds thats best case two days without break dc or fail doing this event. Just for runes…
If they just were buyable, but….

so everything must be easy and less time consuming? I wanted the whole set of auric weapons, instead of farming AB meta events, I use one of my extra character slot, created few 80’s to run the HOT story to chapter 8 to get the ones I’m missing.

Sorry, zero sympathy for this type of whining.

I’d run the whole H0T story again but the endless unskippable conversations make it drag on forever- what do you do whilst you are waiting for the endless talking to stop?

Oh and using tomes to instant 80 would offend some people who insist you should Play. The. Character.

Proof how disconnected Anet is with players

I don’t really have a problem with the proofs being soulbound except for the fact that even with the E-spec unlocked my character still gets them dropped from the chest… if a-net wants to keep dumping these on us after the respective character has it’s E-spec done, either let us give them to other toons or give us another use for them.

So in your mind there’s only going to ever be one Elite spec for each class? Interesting.

No doubt they will release more in due course, tied to some new pve area with even more gated/timed/grind fest meta event content and gated or time locked ‘adventures’ that require perfect ping and great hand/eye co ordination. Only next time they’ll make absolutely certain that they can only be unlocked by playing in that area and wvw players will be asked to spend another 4000 gems in order to enable the unlock- and then still have to go to pve on each character they have in order to get it. (Remember, you read it here first).

I’m now building stacks in my bank of these tokens, so far two different toons have spare ones- in due course, 8 or 9 bank tabs will be taken up by the different stacks depending on which character I am playing when I happen to level up a wvw rank.

Anet have never understood wvw, and the horse riders supporting the ‘bug fix’ obviously don’t get it either.

Maybe they should level the playing field, and make tomes of knowledge and the level 20 instant things soulbound too, so people can Play. The. Character.

While we’re there, no reason for pvp players to get anything at all for pvp except maybe progress towards legendaries, using the same basis as wvw, so that’s ‘win 50,000 top league matches’ for a precursor, no custom arenas allowed. Just allow full unlock on a pvp toon and all rune sets etc then they don’t need anything else. Or if they do get anything, it should all be soulbound to that toon- and it locks if they delete the toon to play something else. That’s just as reasonable as this wvw change from the eyes of a wvw player.

Arch summed up the argument nicely- it’s about bringing in the right toon for the job if you aren’t some selfish pve’r who’s just in it to grab the maximum rewards without considering how that impacts on the matchup.

Sadly the OP posted this in the wrong forum section to get any notice from devs.

Needs to copy and paste it to the spvp section and hopefully one might read it before it’s removed back to the wvw backwaters.

I find one of the issues is not to be even able to see it coming in any sort of fight, with all the other rubbish on the floor (and people milling around) it’s impossible to even pick it up. Even if you dodge one, three or four more are coming and of course they can spam it every 2 seconds…

I’m starting to wonder why I bother wearing armor at all in some of these fights. When you come across 4-5 revs who time their 2 second CoR so they all hit your blob (and let’s face it, the game relies on buffs/heals/etc that mean you HAVE to bunch up to get them..oh for a trinity..) and insta down half of you, it’s really not much fun.

Even running a totally tanky Druid build last night (2200 toughness- 3k+ armor) it felt like armor made no difference to the outcome in a lot of fights, where the burst skills of several classes are now so OP.

Sadly, they won’t fix it, as it doesn’t affect their precious spvp. Or if they do, it won’t be for wvw’s benefit it will be part of a general pvp baised skills update.

The really worrying things about that is the restrictions on alliance chat- and the fact that it mentions grawls, ie PVE in what is supposed to be wvw.

Maybe they will scrap the pvp element entirely and entire alliances will pit themselves against a series of challenges (see ‘adventures’ in H0T) involving pve mobs, and the alliances that scores the most pve points ‘wins’ the wvw matchup.

Nothing would surprise me where wvw is concerned…

Yep, another glaring issue that would not have occurred if the basics had been carried over from Guild Wars to GW2.

Even a server listing popping up when you port to an area would be great- and can’t be that hard to program, seeing as it already assigns you anyway.

This is why games bring in dailies, or a daily log in chest. So they can say ‘look at how many actives we have’.

Be a much more interesting statistic to see the average daily time per active logged in to the game- then eliminate the obvious bots (on 24/7) and see what the true user figure is.

Forgot to say, ‘active users’ is also a bit iffy- 5 of my accounts only log in to open a chest and grab the daily log in reward..do i count as 6 actives?

So, just so I get the fights, it’s ‘gimmick gimmick gimmick’ and if you miss gimmick 1 you wipe due to inst gib gimmick.

Raids don’t need to be made easier, they need difficulty levels so novices to the fights can learn the mechanics and not drag the whole party to failure as they didn’t jump during gimmick phase 4 part 2 when they should have dodged.

Having ‘one size fits all’ just means there is an ever increasing gap between those that jumped on at the start and now have memorised all the gimmicks and those that want to take part in raids but find themselves excluded from experienced parties due to the increased chance of failure if you include someone new. Just leads to lots of frustration all round and is very easily fixed.

Even this wouldn’t be quite so bad if wvw earned exp actually progressed you towards something (looks at mastery lines, or pvp reward tracks)..

Seeing 15 of them popping up on the wrong character tonight knowing I could make use of them elsewhere was enough. Logged out.

Someone above didn’t get my point. You can play pvp and get piles of tomes of knowledge, roll a new toon, instant level 80, 300 hp, as tomes of knowledge are transferable- you didn’t earn them on that toon. By your logic, that shouldn’t be possible, and tomes of knowledge shouldn’t exist (or should be soulbound…). In pvp you also get stacks of mats that are transferable, etc- on a character that was instantly 80 and doesn’t need any armor or weapons anyway.

Many people main one toon and then have alts, but mostly play wvw. It’s not great to force them onto a toon that the guild doesn’t want in the raid on the basis that they have to now play it as that’s the toon that needs to work on it’s elite spec (but doesn’t have it, hence kitten compared to a finished toon).

Taking away people’s choices isn’t doing wvw any favours.

Ahhh, so instead of 7, there’s one per chapter completed and one for any Order.

Oh well, lots of cutscenes to skip and boring dialogie to get through then, and hope I haven’t already finished the entire story on another toon on my main account.

Then it’s hunt the silly points- like managing not to be hit by any vines during a particular event and other intensely annoying things (one bit of renderign or lag and that’s it, start over).

I hadn’t touched WvW for a bit. But the way I see it, they are now how it was suppose to be.
They let you get your elite spec, they are soul bound, same as PvE. Play and gear the character you want to play. Why have an alt if you don’t play it.

Clearly you don’t play wvw. Or if you did, you would know that bringing in a half specced waste of space isn’t ideal for your server- basically you are asking the server to carry you.

This isn’t pve, where it doesn’t matter – in wvw you will be rally bait.

No one wants you anywhere near the battles if you’re not geared properly and don’t have the right class and build- not to mention you might main say guardian in wvw 95% of the time but want to work on, say, a thief.

What are you supposed to do? log out every time you get near a wvw rank up, log on thief, get the rank up, relog on guard?

How about if everyone wants to get elite spec on their rangers – gonna be real interesting when 30 rangers from your side run in to a properly constituted opposition, isn’kitten

When they soulbound everything you get from pvp, and remove tomes of knowledge from all pvp players, including all those on any toons they have, then the playing field will be level.

Wvw is not pve. Forcing players to choose a main, then watch as a pile of useless chests pile up isn’t going to make Anet any friends.

Maybe if they did the same to all pvp rewards there would be a big enough outcry (that they would notice) to get this utterly stupid idea reversed.

For the first time in ages, I really don’t feel like logging in at all.

Soulbound Chests of the Mists

Notsoperky.2348

Yeah when they were account bound it actually gave us the freedom to use them on whichever alt we wanted, and encouraged people to play WvW.

I couldn’t be more disappointed with Anet by today’s changes. And if that wasn’t bad enough, not even a fix for all the HoT legendary collection items. Things just get worse and worse :-/

No what it would encouraged ppl to do is to pve in wvw it dose not encourage them to play wvw.

So this is greed pure and simple. Before this there was no way to get hp in wvw at all (just the few maps ones like pve) they made the rewarded for rank up a lot better by letting ppl get hp in wvw. Now they made them even more rewarding and the best thing ppl can do is complain about something they knew was going to happen becuse Anet even said it was a bug.

A lot of people play almost only wvw. A lot of them are asked by their guilds to play certain classes.

You might think it reasonable to soulbound the only way to open up HP’s for those toons you don’t use so much in wvw but want to have handy, but I think it’s a really stupid idea.

And they release a new way to get a legendary for Pvp today- how come everything you earn in pvp isn’t soulbound? Explain that to me. Or why pvp even awards level up books when a pvp toon is auto 80 anyway? That’s right. BECAUSE YOU CAN USE THE STUFF ON OTHER TOONS.

So why have Anet yet again shafted wvw players- it’s almost as if they want to close it down, so they drive away as many as possible beforehand.

As usual, blessed pvp gets it’s own way to craft a precursor:

PvP Legendary Journey—The Ascension
Participating in Ranked Arena advances the journey for the Ascension.
The Ascension is created from:
Gift of the Competitor: Obtained by combining the 4 pieces in the Mystic Forge.
Each piece is awarded from completing each of the 4 meta-achievements.
Gift of Skirmishing: Obtained by combining various items into the Mystic Forge.
250 Shards of Glory
Obtained from reward tracks and PvP League.
1 Perfect Mist Core
Obtained by combining 4 mist core fragments in the Mystic Forge.
1 – 2 mist core fragments are obtained by finishing the Glorious Reward Track.
5 Certificate[s] of Support
Purchased from the League Vendor.
2 Vision Crystals
Gift of Fortune: Not yet available at this time.
Precursor: Obtained by combining all 4 tiers of Glorious Wings in the Mystic Forge.
The 4 tiers of Glorious Wings can be purchased from the League Vendor.

In the meantime, wvw gets shafted again with character bound kitten no one wanted- this time by making level up chests soulbound and the drops from them.

I guess no one at Anet actually gives a kitten about wvw or the players in it to keep coming up with this crap. I guess playing alts will be the next thing to be removed from wvw- they’ll tell you to choose one character and only that one is allowed to play wvw, and only after completing the H0T maps and opening up full elite HP points.,

Nothing really surprises me about this any more. Just disappoints.

Why dont chests of the mist stack?

Notsoperky.2348

Open the chests, stack those heroic poofs in the bank. Then log alt, walk to vendor and spent them, there ya go soulbounded items used on another toon.

Which they have stated is a ‘bug’ which they intend to fix. Luckily it’s wvw related so expect the fix in a timescale of 1-3 years.

The chests don’t stack because it’s wvw related, so zero time (or as near as possible) was spent checking this sort of thing.

It’s like auto loot being the most useful addition to wvw- so just as they released H0T they removed it from functioning in wvw…

Going by yesterdays stream, they lost about 2k viewership over the first week of ESL Pro Leagues.

No doubt that will be a ‘temporary blip’ ‘timing’ ‘other events were on at same time’ blah blah blah.

I tried watching one of the those streams with the commentary and had to turn off the commentary after a couple of minutes as they sounded like over excited kids on speed- totally ruined the viewing. They are turning into another really stupid idea that probably sounded great when the devs were gathered around the table thinking of things to add. Sadly they forgot the gating behind meta events, lack of access to where they put half of them, server lag, ping trouble, keyboard skills and stupid timers.

I have zero desire to log in and do them. As I will shortly run out of mastery points to spend and yet have several lines of masteries still to do, it’s now got the stage I don’t want to go to the jungle maps at all, as any experience I gain will be wasted.

How long does the game last when all the “scrubs” leave. I would lay money that those same “scrubs” bought the vast majority of gems with cash. Reduced gem sales = less content development.

Most complaints on the forum are from people with arguments such as “I have a job, family etc, and I only have 1 or 2 hours per day to play so I don’t have time to raid or think about the content instead of #1111 my way to the top.”
Now you want to tell me that these players buy gems for real money?!

Think there for a sec…

Also just because the forums are flooded with doom n’ gloom, it does not mean that the actual playerbase is. Players that are actually casual, do not go to the forums to
spend their whole free time in order to cry.

Multiple maps are full all the time, countless T4 metas are being completed daily, there are lots of raiding activity through LFG and guilds, PvP has a rising population and WvW is getting a big revamp. The game is nowhere near to it’s death. It has more life than it ever had.

You guys really have zero understanding of how anything works. There has to be a mix of content, or ANet alienates too many players to keep developing the game.

There IS a mix of content. There is a facerolling Tyria, and there’s a medium difficulty HoT. You make it sound like they ripped your character from Tyria and theyteleported him to Drangleic…

I love when someone writes such a condescending white knight piece such as the quoted poster.

The language you use is typical. ‘actual’ playerbase’ ‘scrubs’ ‘cry’ and then post baseless comments like ‘wvw is getting a big revamp’ (we’ve been waiting three years, so far we got a complete disaster of a new Deserted BL), ‘full maps’ ‘PVP has a rising population’ (proof? Looked a lot quieter when I was there yesterday).

Luckily elitist white knights are a tiny minority in game and on the forums- I’d hate to see a game designed by people like you or a game full of them. Go ‘cry’ your white tears elsewhere.

Who else is enjoying HoT?

My favourite part of the story was when I finished it. I found the unskippable endless dialogue boring in the extreme, and it’s the most offputting thing about ever repeating the story. Do they really have to talk to each other every time whilst I stand there waiting for my turn to ‘speak’?

I suppose they had to add all that in to make up for the lack of real time consuming action.

Favourite elite is chronomancer, have got them all.

My favourite event was finishing the maps so I don’t ever have to do it again.

I’m excited by the endless timed/gated/locked content and almost permanent contested waypoints over many of the maps. When you are opening the map with a different character this becomes tedious/annoying in the extreme.

I’m excited by all the time gating/mastery gating/account bound new stuff. Oh, and no longer being able to operate my little guild or make guild catapults as apparently that’s OK to remove most of my guild’s functionality and gate it behind a massive gold sink and grind.

I’m looking forward to a different game.

Nothing wrong with a well placed superior ballista or two during a massive fight- it’s all part of the tactics, and very easily countered if you care to know what you are doing.

Cannons aren’t a problem at all- just bring some people that can look up and not so many knuckle draggers and you will find them easier to deal with.

A true Wvw’r appreciates that there are many different types of wvw player and should embrace them all- from ultra casual to ultra paranoid.

They would do better at this stage deleting the new BL maps and just throwing in one EB map to replace the 3 BL, so we’d have a total of 2 wvw maps that are copies of EB. then people could spread out over the two maps and yet have plenty of roaming space as well as good large scale fights and 3 ways.

Anything would be better than the Deserted BL maps.

I would rather have 2 EB’s than any of the BL maps… Just make more EB’s however many is needed. Change the scenery a bit and YAY they have a winner. Now of course, in t1 , 2 EB’s would never be enough you would have to have more BL to accommodate the number of people who play, but just make more maps like EB to make the players happier.. ( which I had mentioned in these forums b4 they ever made these maps and was ignored).

At the moment 2 EB’s would be more than enough for most EU matchups..might be a small queue on each at primetime, that’s what EOTM is for.

If it isn’t enough and both are queued by more than one side, then you could open up a series of special fight maps that only last 1 hour, count towards the score and are more geared towards fights, with even numbers allowed to enter and maybe one tower each, two camps each – sort of like a gvg map from Guild Wars but slightly bigger. Hell, remove the camps and tower and have a ‘Guild Lord’ and make it three way.

I can agree some Adventures are really hard or some of them its not your type for example Shooting Gallery for me i can’t even get silver , probably i have to practice more. But don’t tell me none of this are your type because i don’t believe you.

Yes, you are forced to do ‘adventures’. Stupid gimmicky time gated sometimes unavailable mini games is a better description. You need 13 silver to complete your mastery lines in H0T if you pick up every other point from everywhere except raids.

Not everyone has hours to spare or wants to spend their short, valuable leisure time doing something they despise (if it’s even open when they can log in). Having to watch a video in order to have some clue of how to complete this garbage isn’t my idea of fun content either.

As for champs on hero points, I suggest you try and reach the ones in DS, or just log in to maps outside of prime time and see how easy it is to get people to help at a HP. Remember, you just spent 30 minutes out of your hour of game time reaching that spot (or triggered it and died, now waiting 8 minutes for respawn), now you find out you need help- spam lfg, map chat, etc and nothing- turns out the meta is in progress on another map and people will come to help you when that finishes- in about an hour. Game session over. Was it in any way fun? Does it make you excited to log in and play tomorrow? No.

And exp for masteries is gated so they force you to play the maps, making their metrics look better as well as hopefully pushing enough people in to metas to say they are a success too.

It’s a shame exp gained in wvw is complete wasted- doesn’t count towards anything at all- and the reward chests don’t stack either.

Doing chest runs in SW is about as mindless as it is possible to get without actually having a bot play the game for you, but is one of the best ways of making gold in the game.

Game has become a time gated event gated grind fest and is no longer ‘play how you like’ but ‘play what we force you to’.

Disable ALL Hero Points in HoT maps while meta events ar up – seriously, did you ever test impact of HP trains when map becomes full and event goers cant invite those ho will help them?

Yes, how dare people just want to get the HP’s done and get out of what they might not consider much of a fun map!

How about add a button to disable the meta event if ten people push it that allows them to complete the HP’s?

Don’t like that idea? Thought not. try seeing things from the other points of view next time.

What needs to be done is a little toning down of the meta or better tracking of numbers inside the event chain rather than just counting numbers on the map and scale event accordingly- but that might involve some programming, so don’t expect changes any time soon.

It’s also entirely possible to jump over, help people complete a HP or two, then jump back to the meta event and still succeed.

This is what happens when you have people program a game in sections- they will have selected an event out of a list and tied your needed reward to the event without even checking the event chain.

Then a lack of quality control or proper testing, and hey presto, you require events to fail to trigger the event that was assigned to that collection.

How long until they get around to fixing it (ie, attaching it to another event where they actually check first) is anybody’s guess.
