Still making jokes about Chuck Norris? Can’t you let the man Rest In Peace?
The spider pet annoys me as a warrior with poison and immob. If you can keep poison up and are able to make good use of your immob and cripples just keep some distance and try not to offload condis into beserker stance or bursts into shield stance / endure pain. Try and weed those stances out before really applying the pressure.
1. Reduce the effectiveness of AoE skills in 1 v 1 situations.
2. Demote passive play and builds that succeed due to effective skill rotations or reliance on AI / Summons rather than judicial reactive play.
3. Stop promoting grieving builds like evade or blind overloading, stun locking, abusive bunkering etc.
4. Have a separate keybind for TAB cycling solely through player targets (exception for clones).
5. A fixed ladder and match making system.
i’ve been talking about this since release
Me too. Cycling through every summon on screen takes the kitten .
When I read about Siezmic Leap replacing Stomp I was thinking that it would replace the normal skill Stomp and not the juggernaut version. Now that would have been amazing for mace main hand users.
I suggested this months ago.
You can’t tab cycle through every summon in a competitive game relying on clutch reactions.
I think what Anet wants you to do is find a counter to the meta but apparently we are too busy whining to do that. You want someone in some high ranking team to do the same thing Super Squad did when they ran a Warrior with Battle Standard, or when Teldo went back to playing Flamethrower/Bomb kit. You’re not willing to counter the meta, only willing to complain about it.
Yes and No. You’re not wrong but its not right.
They did exactly the same in GW1, forcing the meta by overbuffing certain things (such as hexes) to move a stale meta into hex/condi etc. This seems fine in principal as a shifting meta makes competitive play more varied, however, what they always seemed to do and have done now is forget that some players don’t want to be carried by their comp or forced into playing a particular counter comp.
There are some players out there who don’t want to jump on the best chance of success bandwagon dictated by the meta and instead would prefer to beat such comps on their own merits by running a balanced comp and outplaying such teams. The problem is that they always forget to bolster the skills/traits etc. needed for balanced comps to be successful at doing this without relying on a massive skill gap. If you get a really good hard meta comp team vs an equally skilled balanced team when the game is in a forced meta change such as this then the balanced team can’t work hard enough to get the advantage back – and that’s always a problem.
I’m sure the OP knows that he could run a certain counter comp (2 stunlock warriors as per your suggestion) but where is the satisfaction in playing rock vs scissors? Some people want to win on their own merits and when they can’t then any incentive for playing just goes out of the window. That’s not right.
Key phrases ’we’ll need to’ and ‘once they are further along’.
It doesn’t take much to understand where their focus is when they’re able to be specific (albeit not detailed) about PvE & WvW update plans and yet struggle to even be vague about PvP updates.
In other words, their PvE & WvW teams have a plan in place whereas the PvP team doesn’t yet.
Disappointing really.
Well I’m glad that watering everything down into a mindless AOE spam to make the game ‘more accessible’ and easier to ‘balance’ than GW1 paid off…. oh wait… it kittening didn’t
I agree 100% but the reason they didn’t do this is because they wanted GW2 PvP to be an e-sport. HA wasn’t really e-sport material no matter how awesome it was because it was impossible to balance with all the different class/subclass, skill, game types involved. This is less of an issue with GW2 but they put all their PvP resources into trying to make it an e-sport first and slowly make it more enjoyable for most of the players and they needed to do that in reverse order. Especially because they didn’t launch with the features needed to be an e-sport anyways.
They watered it down in order to be make it easier to balance.
Fewer (one in total) game modes = easier to balance the game.
Fewer skills (tied to weapon sets) = easier to balance the game.
No dual classing = easier to balance the game.
Fewer maps = easier to balance the game.
With all these concessions they’ve made to make the game easier to balance you would think that – I dunno just throwing ideas around – that the game would actually be somewhat freaking balanced!!
I understand that they didn’t want to make GW1 v 2.0 and props for going out on a limb but its so disappointing having experienced the majesty of GW1 PvP. I would have expected something as good but different with GW2 – especially how they hyped it as e-sport material and being skill based etc. – and while the game may be fun to play (in short bursts) the PvP is just not the same calibre as the first game, unfortunately.
I hope they learn from their mistakes, if they ever make a GW3.
There’s nothing fundamentally wrong with the warrior. Why he’s weak is because bunker setups which spew out AoE are too strong. If you’re going to bunker then fine, have your sustain and go for attrition rather that brute up front damage but don’t then give them the ability to stack might (which circumvents investment into power) while spewing out AoE which is already too frequent and too strong.
Making warrior viable in this mess is going about it the totally wrong way imo. Fix the source of the problem and curtail the AoE.
I run a warrior in sPvP for 1 reason alone – I don’t want to be carried by my class. When I succeed its me and not due to class advantages. Simple as that. Same reason I played Chanter in Aion.
You can’t run a melee DPS in the state the meta is in atm… too much AoE and condi spam. That stuff isn’t fun for anyone so why even promote it? Just cut it out and you don’t even need to buff warrior (much).
I just hate the way they’ve promoted the most cheesiest builds they could think of. Why did they think it would be fun to fight a highly mobile constantly healing boon popping bunkering ele? Why did they think it would be fun to fight rangers and their pets with constant prot & regen & huge evasion? Why did they think it would be fun to fight against evade spamming thieves? Why do they now think its fun to fight against AoE spam or condi overload? ITS JUST NOT FUN, and a million miles away from e-sport land. In fact at this point I don’t think the devs know what that would even look like – and this is coming from a huge a-net fanboy. I am so disappointed.
Tier S
- Mesmer (always has been)
Tier A
- Elementalist
Tier B
- Guardian
- Ranger
- Engineer
- Necro
Tier C
- Thief
Tier D
- Warrior
In a way I’m glad they didn’t implement this, we need to find a better way to keep the GW2 warrior on his feet.
I am not in favour of warriors having low CD heals. We should be able to take a lot of damage through judicial use of skills that mitigate damage situationally or re-actively and only having to cast a heal in absolute dire situations.
When I play a high damage melee DPS class, I don’t want to be stopping every 15 seconds to cast a self heal. We’re the class that benefits least from wholly maintaining our own HP though self heals particularly when privileges such as being able to move while casting etc. are taken into consideration.
I like the changes to BS too, and agree that it could be a stun break and last a bit longer (without having to trait it for 1 extra second of benefit).
The skill then would actually be on par with EP.
EP prevents physical spikes while BS prevents condi stacking bursts. You just need to use it pro-actively.
Because this game has some of the most AoE spam I’ve seen in any competitive PvP title, the AoE damage in this game is over the top and Warriors have to wade through all that crap to do their jobs.
No amount of trait changes, skill tweaking or other such nonsense will change this fundamental problem.
The change is a must have!
As a warrior, once I’ve closed in on my enemy through all his roots, cripples, immob, stealths and teleports, ran through all the endless AoE fields which I can hardly circumvent saturating me in even more conditions (including the new torment probably) and finally manage to land some hits through aegis’, evades & protections – it should be obvious that I am going to need my crit rate decimating by weakness. Otherwise, we’re just going to remain OP and overplayed in tPvP.
Giving mesmers Torment sounds like a bad idea. Yes it sounds all hex like and mesmery but I don’t see the merit in adding more to a class with an already stacked arsenal.
I’m hoping I don’t have to log back in here on the 26th and say I told you so.
Geff.1930 got closest to the mark in my opinion with his three point analysis of the problem.
