I have feeling that clock tower can not be hit by treb anymore, is it just me not being able to do that or is there some sort of bug? It looks like the projectile hits invisible wall on ct. Works ok for other spots on map…

The most comical part about it is that they pretend to fight toxicity by denying us ability to view other players performance in after game stats. What sense does it make there? I want to see how other party members did I want to compare my stats to their and to enemy. If I see other person with similar spec I want to know how they did compared to me (be it ally or enemy). The after game scene makes no sense either. Not only is it distracting. All the useless windows that pop up cover it anyways and their timing is horrible as well! I always manage to close the stats windows before it shows up cuz its so slow.

One thing i noticed is:If Ele is downed he is as good as dead.There is zero chance of surviving once a ele is downed.I feel other classes have better chances.Rangers can have their pets heal necros can fear Eles can mist away for a short distance and then hope its far enough usually leading to not being far enough and die.

This I agree with. The issue is damage taken/health in downed state. Sure we can stale with mist for few sec but there is 0 chance of being resurrected if anything is attacking you. I really think that anet should take second look on downed state hp/toughness and skill for each class. It is almost as unbalanced as underwater combat.

On the original topic. I played few more days and I still think ele needs slight buff. Be it either damage/survivability as is most other classes similarly speced either do more damage and got similar survivability or other way around.

Base ele needs a buff

So I’ve logged in during the test weekend, stayed bit after it ended and came to conclusion that base ele is severely under powered. Just to make it clear I am talking mostly spvp (some wvw) not pve as that is not something that I know anything about.

Here is my reasoning:
If any class runs with zerker/marauder amulet, runes that grand power/ferocity + dmg % while hp is 90+%(w/e is the name) and gets free time to hit other players these players should feel pressured to do something about that player. Never happens with s/f fresh air ele. I can literally blow full combo on anybody and they will not come even close to being dead so there is no pressure to speak of. By full combo I mean DT -> Phoenix 2x->Air attoument proc->lightening strike-> arcane blast most of that while under tempest defense bonus. If that combo can’t kill zerkers and force other builds to be defensive for a moment(which it can’t) how is ele supposed to fight? I spent all my big cds enemy doesn’t feel pressured and I have to go defensive instead of them. Not how damage build fight should look like. Even if the enemy feels slight pressure from the burst the cool down on it is way too long and the setup way too complicated to make it worth the while. Before it becomes available again enemy will recover and put pressure on me.

Every other class that I did fight against had better damage/defense ratio. They hit me harder than I hit them while having more defensive options. Every other class that I played with in team had way better burst and sustained damage.

I get it that you have to make new specs compelling but it should be done by fun/fresh gameplay not powercreep. Even if we talk only base classes ele still draws the short straw – especially since the phoenix “fix” which essentially ruined any burst capabilities we had.

Sure you can, but it is doubtful that such practice is main reason anyone is using gem store, most anybody playing pve gets gear by doing well… pve and uses gem shop to get new “shiny looks”. Just as most exclusive pvp players(if there even are any left) use gem shop to buy new shiny looks.

Sure there will be odd apple or two with more money than sense that will blow hundreds of dolars/euro on gem→gold transitions just to buy full pve gear on TP, but there are(most likely) so few of them that they are not main source of income. It’s been common trend past few years showing that small transactions in big quantity are more profitable than few bigger sales.

Uninstalling 2 days after an expansion was a foolish move. Even if balance of Revenant/elite specs were perfect, you would still be getting absolutely wrecked simply because you really don’t know what you are up against. 2 days is not enough time to draw balance conclusions, especially after a massive update.

I had reasons:
-balance history was awful pre expansion – hoped expansion would help but it only made it worse
-changes to my class made the only viable spec opposite to what I wanted to play and didn’t like the new elite game play either(played zerker ele for longest time, tempest is dull)
-was getting literally 2 shotted by everything and even if i managed to outplay them the damage was pathetic for zerker build and it took “forever” to kill anything
-making the game buy to win(not pay to win)was last straw, there is no way I’m going to support such business practice

Just to clarify by all gear being non customizable, I meant the stats are the same for every player so I doesn’t matter if you have a legendary weapon or ascended armor.

And are you planing on coming back? Former lol player here, I haven’t check their forum sincrease my departure; hence why I am asking .

Well then gem shop doesn’t have anything to do with it, now does it? You can’t buy actual gear from gem shop, only skins(as far as I know).

Im not sure what your second question is about. If you’re asking about gw then:

I do keep tabs on gw2 forums just in case anet gets new balance team or the only one somehow gets smart. That’s because GW2 pvp had really convenient format, match max 15 min easy to join, short time commitment made it ideal for me.

Else if you were asking abou LoL then I have never played that abomination.

Since when is “All gear in pvp not customizable”? Any gear customization that can be bought from gem shop can be used in pvp.

On topic of balance/elite specs being relevant to people upgrading/not upgrading. I for one played the game for 2 days after HoT release then uninstalled it. Before that I’ve been playing on and off since beta, mostly pvp(~80%). Seeing state of game after expansion made me quit.

lel u’r funny. If you want to do comparison like that compare events or non event avg.
Atm with smites world championship there is ~60k twitch viewers, during dota ti5 (its like world championship) there were ~300k english viewers alone. There usually are at least that much or more russians, most likely a lot of chinese as well. So napkin math: dota had at least 600k+ viewers with 1kk+ being more likely in twitch alone. All in all the previous year event had been watched by over 2kk people and since it’s getting more popular by the year(judging by gathered prize pool by community) it is safe to assume there were even more people watching it this year. All that is peek viewers, with more than 20kk total in 2014(there is no data for 2015).

All that ofc pales in comparison with lol which had something like 8.5kk peek viewers and over 32kk in total in 2014(again no data for 2015).

Unlike gw2 these games are huge, idk about stats for lol(cuz I don’t care) and gw2(cuz there are non available) but last month dota had over 12kk unique players – that is WoW territory in numbers . No way gw2 can compare.

Also with the way game is being developed it is unlikely to ever change, let’s not delude ourselves anet doesn’t have know how or enough dedication to make this game viable for esport.

Please, I’m not talking about 1v1 but tpvp, and even if we want to talk about 1v1 right by now SF fresh air sucks. Viper and power revenant eat you, condi reaper eat you, scrapper eat, a drud’s pet eat you…. Maybe with dragon hunter you can have chance to win if you play really flawless.
And just after HoT most of the people was smashing all the keyboard with know what was they doing, in the while you was playing a hold build in wich one you can fell conforted

well yes, you are right, and that’s what I meant. It was hellishly difficult to do anything when opponents didn’t know wtf to do. Now it would be even harder. Hence your proposed change alone would hardly make any difference because ele issues are plenty and on many different fields

I was playing marouder s/f (non tempest) and I could beat most of other classes if I played perfectly(or close to) – granted that was just after HoT happened.
If i didn’t play perfectly though one of 3 things happened:

1) I got one shotted
2) I got two shotted
3) I got three shotted

You can dodge, shield, blink, invonur all you want. Somewhere in the end you will get hit and when you do, in current state, you will die.

And as you said thats when I uninstalled the game, and it remains uninstalled since then.

My point is, your suggested change although nice would prove of little worth with current state of ele/meta

Shatterstone:

Comet:
1. Damage, can be cast w/o line of sight
2. Interrupt, use it if you expect enemy to cast something you don’t want them to cast
-thief HS for combo stealth
-engineer coming out of invulnerability elixir – time it right so it hits just after invulnerability ended
-interrupt ressing
-interrupting long cast spells such as Eternal Renewal
-removing rangers Shared Anguish so you can gale combo

-dude it’s long range, short cast, damaging blind. Sure it’s not a very good skill. But hey throw it out randomly and it can mess up with enemy combo. It can crit and proc fresh air so meh.. just use it on cd.

1. Balance patches are not often enough
2. Balance team is biased
3. Many class weapon/trait issues are ignored for ages and never get solved

With above its hard to justify putting more money into this game

4. New elite specs are anti consumer seeing how they are stronger (instead of being on par) than core specs making this P2W.
5. Elite spec for my class is widely acknowledged by community(and me) as unimaginative, boring and contradicting core class mechanics.(Guess which one it is)
6. Still feel screwed by anet bundling core game into expansion.

Nice, flashy visual effects are cool idd. However as is many are too flashy. I’m talking mostly about all these “3d fields/holograms etc”. In pvp matches when few players dump everything on single point there is no way to tell wtf is happening there, all is one and one is all.

I’ve been playing pvp since release, and compared to what used to be, new specializations are really hard to read. I recall there used to be similar issue when the game first came out, weren’t many skills effects tuned down? Why repeat mistakes? -.-

Vigor “nerf” – In all honestly this trait should have been normalized to 10s ICD back in June 23rd when other classes had that change. We have enough vigor access already so this wasn’t too much of a blow.

No, it should not have been normalized at all. Not like that. Either leave it at 5/5 duration/cd or add something to it to make that MAJOR trait better then MINOR traits of other classes.

you’re wrong. all those changes are perfect and fair. the might on cantrips could have been left at 1 per cantrip but oh well, people will just switch the grandmaster for extra might.

Nerfs were needed, but as per usual anet went overboard, instead of carefully toning down some skills/trait they applied hammer to them.

What was not needed and is definitely NOT FAIR is the Renewing Stamina nerf. What in the name of god were they thinking?

“Other classes got 5sec vigor on 10 sec cd on minor trait! Eles major trait needs to be in line with them!!!”

How is that reasoning valid? It’s strong major trait that is needed, stronger active defense for passively squishiest class of all sounds perfectly reasonable, especially since it was major not minor trait.

They just swung the nerf bat at PU Mesmers, reducing stealth duration by 50%.

50% stealth duration bonus nerf is not, by any means stopping mesmers from 100-0 ing somebody from sealth. Just makes them easier to deal with should you survive.

100-0 doesn’t work and burst is predictable. Dodge, use block, blind etc. I think you are just lacking skill and get carried by op ele specs.

Wait, so I’m playing s/f marauder ele(just like I’ve been for over a year), I’m getting 100-0d (or close enough to make no difference) by mesmer whom I couldn’t possible see coming because he stealthed all the way from way out of sight where I had absolutely no way of knowing if he was coming, when was he coming and how many of them were there (usually happens at start of game). How is any of that related to my skill?

Missed all three beta weekends. =(

I just finished watching a recording from twitch about the anet guys saying that the new precursor crafting will involve items gotten only from PvP. I’ve never done any PvP in this game in the more than 3 years I’ve been playing it. I never wanted to. I never liked PvP in the original GW because I’m at a loss when it comes to gaming skill and latency issues. Being behind the 8-ball like that drives people away, and making stuff that’s only obtainable through PvP when they don’t like that mode leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

That’s exactly the point, there are people out there that play this game mainly for pvp, we want nice things as well and idea of having to leave to pve and grind(content which we don’t find fun) all day for months to get them leaves bad taste in the mouth.

What I actually am opposed to is mixing modes for getting single item, that should never be the case. There should be items that are exclusive for both modes or obtainable in both modes.

What about the legendary pvp exclusive backpiece that requires you compete in the ranked seasons to get the needed components, with higher ranked players able to obtain them faster?
That seems like “legendary,/pvp exclusive skins”.

There are, there also are people like me who do only very selective kind of pve content(jumping puzzles, some parts of seasonal events). Some dungeons I’ve only ran more than once but only because I was forced to, to get gear for wvw(yup that used to be the case).

That’s funny because they nerfed IceBow over PvE. They also nerfed RTL over PvE because you were getting places you shouldn’t. They also nerfed powerful aura over PvE. Shall I go on? PvE has done more harm to PvP than the other way around. PvE is easy, there is always a way to be useful … in sPvP there is now only D/D Cele or you melt.

Any source on RTL? I’m against that nerf totally, but I remember it being an intentional nerf to combat mobility (wvw/pvp).

OP: you can do fractals 50 in non-zerker rares. damage nerfs dont matter. damage output in HoT is supposedly even less relevant. never in the history of the game have eles not been wanted in every game mode. this doesnt change that.

I think he was referring to earlier nerf rtl received – the one that increased Z-axis drop rate.

I honestly see this as creating more work for the devs which imho would create more issues than it would solve. Bugs and balancing issues already take an age to fix.This would increase that ten-fold.

You’re also neglecting that Anet has always wanted and promoted GW2, from day one, as having an open an easy transition between all formats of the game so players can take what they have learnt from one mode and jump straight into another only needing to learn the mode type and playstyle….not a whole new set of skill mechanics.

OPs change was proposed many times for both gw2 and wow in both cases excuse was “we don’t want players to be confused with difference between modes” – I call BS.
The only difference would be numbers on attacks not whole mechanics. Since PvE and PvP targets tend to have different mechanics and different stats mixing different numbers on abilities won’t be even noticed.

As for additional work, If they split game into 2(3 might be overkill) modes(which they did for some skills) It could actually save time balancing. Instead of thinking of clever way to buff/nerf something while not breaking it in other modes they could just easily adjust numbers for one mode and not care about it in other(unless it was needed as well). That way they could buff something underpowered in pvp while not make it op in pve and vice versa, no need for looking for some loophole to achieve that. The only concern there would be "Are proposed number changes for WvW mode breaking kitten in PvE? – usually answer is not – seeing how absolute balance is not necessary in pve.

PvE try hards will abuse strongest class/spec no matter how little difference in power is, for all the rest as long as class is good enough to play comfortably it doesn’t matter. And don’t say it matters, because it really doesn’t. If you’re min/maxing you either do it right and roll what is strongest or don’t bother and play whatever you find fun.

Scepter-Focus needs a buff

In my experience Anet doesn’t really care about the non meta things, their idea is to kill meta to bring up non-meta things. The only time in the recent memory that they actually did something for build diversity is with the June 23 changes. I don’t think it will happen, maybe in 2 or 3 years.

Sad but true. Unfortunately during that big revamp of many skills and weapons anet somehow forgot ele was thing, so all they really did was give us changes that were forced by burning mechanics change.

Scepter needs buff and QoL. Focus is strong but still needs buff, fire skills are borderline useless, gale could use few sec lower cd. As is no one will ever eat gale combo due to every stun breaker got lower cd than gale. Also fights rarely last long enough for it to cool down -.-

-too many blast finishers
-“slow projectiles” are boring – have maybe one of these
-attunement skills should differ in more than element

Guys, in your opinion, which skills could be changed to make scepter more appealing?

We’ve been there many many times.

All auto attacks needs help – they are to slow and/or do not enough damage
Dragon tooth needs lower cast time + ground targeting
Water 2 isn’t even worth casting atm
Earth 2 and 3 need some help as well

Scepter burst specs do not enough damage with too little survivability compared to other zerkers.

I’d change focus fire 4/5 because these are close to useless in current state(except for might stacking),
comet could use some tuning
gale could use few sec lower cd. It is hard enough to hit any combo with it as it is, seeing how we have no other way to force stun breakers and it has cd longer then most stun breakers in game.

Yes the elite is bad, no it doesn’t even fit tempest (or ele) thematically. Should it be remade instead of buffed? Yes. Will it get buffed? Probably not cuz anet.

If they want to go with elite affecting cooldowns it should be something like "upon use reduces cooldowns on every ability ele uses by X%(or just flat out resets cooldown of some skills, be it utilities or attouments) + reduces cd of every affected allied elite skill slot by Y% if used within Z seconds after ele cast the elite.

The problem isn’t that eles can’t adapt and probably even expectations aren’t the issue.

I see three major problems with warhorn:

1) It’s an offhand and we already have two well working offhands(both got minor issues but in general they are fine). What we do not have is proper ranged main hand. Scepter as is sucks and there is no way around it. That leaves us with just 1 main hand and 3 off hands which is gross disproportion.

2) Animations and skins – many people for some unknown reason care for such things and warhorn is worst in game in this department.

3) People are afraid that warhorn skills will be predictable and dull – which ofc can be true for any weapon.

Revenant really needed the weapon swap. Elementalists are just fine without it. A revenant weapon is 5 abilities – an elementalist weapon is 20. Giving revenant 5 more abilities is not the same as giving elementalist 20 more abilities…

Make all 20 skills on all weapon sets actually good and we have a deal.

Tbh I would be against weapon swap in combat as well, but out of combat swap should have been live since day 1.

This is truly saddening that one of few changes that ele received was only announced but never went live. This is not difficult to do, hell when the trait was first introduced it was bugged in such way it worked as it supposed to now.

Surly change that made it to patch change log is worth investing a little time to make it actually work, now isn’kitten

I can honestly see no reason to ignore this, fixing fresh air might help scepter builds while will not do any good(or harm) for already strong D/?. The only reason why this could be left broken is total lack of any care about the issue, which would totally suck.

It is pointless to talk about viability of spec with fresh air still having icd. Get this fixed asap then we can talk. Without that any input will not be all that helpful but here goes…

As it is fresh air seems to be playable but I find myself lacking damage to kill or even put pressure on some targets – mostly but not limited to (bunker ranger, bunker necro, cele engi, non glass eles). Survivability seems to be better which is good news, but by nature that spec is not meant to outlast opponents. Fresh air got to output heavy damage to be really useful in both solo and team fight but with defence increase for other classes and damage nerf it doesn’t always seem doable.

Other then above many issues fresh air had still remain true after patch. Got to pick defensive traits, got to run amulet with vitality to even stand a chance surviving(which now means we get less damage then other classes with higher vitality), hardest hitting spell(DT) still require setup of other skill which cooldown is longer then most stun breaker cooldowns making that combo impossible to hit in 1v1 against half decent opponent. Elites still are not worth calling elite, some of scepter skills still are lackluster – fire auto attack hurts me most at the moment. The reason for that is:
-if opponent dodges phoenix or somehow it didn’t crit or FA is on ICD still getting FA proc with that long cast fire auto attack is painful. For such long cast flamestrike sure doesn’t do much for us, and if that didn’t crit either(or got dodged/blocked/blinded) well then we really are in trouble.

But as I’ve said it is pointless to discuss state of spec with most important trait being bugged, it could make big difference but it is hard to say if enough.

Seem like fresh air still has ICD, any rotation AIR->X->AIR->Y ends up with CD on Air attunement in Y even if skill like Arcane Blast is used

The Evasive Arcana proc on Earth Attunement is being changed from Churning Earth to Shockwave according to that_shaman and IntoTheMists build calculators, I have re-watched the Ready-Up Livestream and Anet doesnt mention anything about it.
Can I have this thing explained? ‘Cause that’s a pretty big change imo.

People from ready-up were so clueless about everything concerning ele, they would have missed that change even if it was there… “anything changed here? Is this new? I don’t know, lets move on!” pathetic.

Thats a fair question though, personally I’d rather it stay as mini CR then Shockwave. Can imagine all kind of issues with aiming that.

Point is, some classes depend more on vigor/dodge then others and are hurt by this change more. Most likely anet did not take that into account and did not made any compensation to them.

I kind of does seem that way but I do think Anet “compensated” for it as well. More heal on EA dodge in spvp, cray cray blinding ashes blinds, potential 13 second shocking aura cd along with tempest defense shocking aura trait when cc’d, 10% dmg reduction earth minor when in 360 range… I’d rather actively avoid attacks though opposed to randomly or passively soaking up damage dealt. I don’t feel as good about winning a fight when I’m just basically surviving off of traits I picked up which I have no control over….

Yeah though ele can’t get all of these and we lost more then just vigor.
- no more healing power/vitality from water trailine
- no more toughness from earth – the minor trait doesn’t compensate at all(somebody did the math stating that previous 20% barely compensated for lost toughness – did not check that myself)

Yup that “presentation” had strange “vibe”. Almost as if they were telling us “we don’t play ele, we don’t care, somebody was tasked with changing ele but he probably doesn’t play or care either”.

Lingering elements is pointless. Best thing to do about it(and easiest to balance in long run) is to have each passive trait last for x sec after getting applied. Have it applied on attunement then ever second. With added cleanse effect on attunement switch if lingering is not desired. That way you get benefit instantly and its easy for “balance team” to buff/nerf as needed. <- this is how it imo should have been done, idk if thats the case though.

Don’t jump to conclusions before we see all changes in action. They don’t look terrible but we won’t know how it compares to other classes before we get to play it all.

1. the biggest issue with this build (as with every ele build that doesn’t go water or arcane or at least focus) is lack of proper condi cleanse. Fire trait is random and is likely to pop from condis that one would not normally cleanse.

2. As you’ve said yourself this build lacks damage after combo burst. Had you played against half decent opponents who would likely avoid taking that burst one way or the other you would most likely lose before getting chance to burst them again.

The devs in charge of core balance said themselves on Ready Up that “if you believe thief is OP, you do not play one.”

Funny coming from them. It is hilarious how clueless they are about issues of some classes almost as if they didn’t play them at all – not to say that they don’t but sometimes it sure does feel that way

from my pov problems with thief:
-they have too much built in survivability even if they go full zerker
-there is little counterplay to stealth – only available if you know thief stealthed and even then very risky
-there is no counter play to thief shadow steps, none at all. No teleporting skill should ignore LoS – though this applies to other classes with such skills as well(guardian), Can not be dodged since it has no cast time.
-there is no counter play to thief shadow step return (most of them have no cast time), even if interrupted nothing stops thief from recasting the skill

Sugestions:
-shadows stepping TO target should always require line of sight(all classes)
-if stealth attack is blocked/missed(blind) that skill slot is put on cooldown(3-5 sec)(all classes)
-if stealth attack is DODGED thief is revealed (all classes)
-initiative is affected by chill
-all mobility(return)/evade skills should have windup(even if no cast time) the skill should be visible before it takes effect – except for utility stun breakers

this might be under or over kill but I think it would be good place to start

Didn’t read all of the responses, because of reasons, but the way I see it is rather simple.
MMR + Rating + Decay
You get/lose MMR and Rating based on mmr of opponent team, your rating is what matters in leaderboards and is what decays.(pretty similar to wow arena system, I think)

example.
You have 150 rating and ~175 mmr, your opponent has got ~190 mmr. Win gets you 7 rating pts, opponent loses 10 rating pts cuz they had higher mmr. In similar fashion mmr should be added/deducted you get less mmr then rating if your mmr>rating, else you get more mmr then rating.
Similarly should you lose(same mmr situation) your mmr doesn’t drop or drops barely and your mmr drops only a little, same for enemy they hardly gain anything from such match.
Now after X time of inactivity you lose Y rating, but your mmr stays the same – you come back you get to play with players of similar mmr but your position on leaderboards dropped but is rather easy to regain(if you still play well) cuz your rating<mmr.

Important part is not to give away too much mmr for nothing. We don’t want new/bad players who got lucky and won 3/4 matches in row to suddenly have mmr of actually good players.

Also a nice touch would be drastically slashing down rating for leaving. First leave max(enemy possible rating gain, your possible rating gain). Second leave 3*xmax, Third 5*max.. and so on
