Actually I sincerely hope they do not go down the one life route for TDM, it can’t work in a game like this.

It would encourage blobbing harder and with passive healing out of combat and auto acquire skills it’s next to impossible for 1 person to kill 2 people assuming similar skill levels.

With reference to your point on gear, this game is basically played by builds very few things require lots of player skill to pull off. So for me not only are they hurting build verity but the whole sPvP game mode as a whole.

It all comes down to balance.

They said that they dont want to release half finished and not tested content. What I can understand in some way.

The game and the balance were designed regarding capturing nodes. Since it was part of this eSports plan the devs have put more power into that.

I can understand that to an extent. But even the most comparative games have multiple game modes even when the game play and most of the competitiveness is designed around a single one.

q3 – Duel, TDM, CTF, DM etc
SC – 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 etc
etc etc

That’s not even the game mode I was thinking of. I was thinking of infinite re-spawns and a frag counter, win conditions based on total team frags. One life, win on total team wipe and draw otherwise is just bad for this game’s mechanics some classes just have too much mobility and would always be able to force draws.

This is an old story but eh…

Can someone please, preferably an ANet sPvP dev, explain the reasoning in the PvP gear setup? One amulet and one jewel with a roughly 90/10 split in stats, compared to the 2 weapon, 6 armour, 6 trinket setup which is roughly 50/50 between armour and trinkets in WvW/PvE?

Also why aren’t there any TDM maps/matches yet? What’s the problem with stripping out the cap points from the maps and changing scoring to “on kill” or “on stomp”? If you don’t want these to be ranked just have them as a custom arena only option.

Yep I agree 100% with the OP.

I’d add that: you need to give everyone a fixed amount of WxP ability points per character, remove the stat buff lines and change the masteries so that siege is next to useless unless you have a decent amount of levels in the line. Promotes choice and forces group co-ordination. Also respec.

Remove gold/karma/everything PvE dropwise, having to deal with the massive gold influxes from the stupid PvE events while WvWers get nothing is just stupid. Fund everything with BoH. This includes taking siege off the TP.

Make WvW, RvGvB and autobalance populations for leagues during a warm-up week. Obviously guilds will have to be stuck together.

Sadly ANet and seemingly most of the people playing don’t want a decent competitive game mode to play, they just want spam and gold/karma/ap farming.

1- Take steps towards truly competitive gameplay and get rid of the notion that WvW is meant to be unbalanced. Level the playing field in all respects so that only skill differentiates performance, not length of time played or how much a server can bloat itself with players in “dead” timezones.

2. Fix bugs.

3. Improve UIs so they have more complex functions. I.e. Commanders/Squads and Claiming etc

ANet and the WvW team had a great product pre wow-transformation mode. Now it’s just a complete mess.

I’d like to debate this. At the launch, they had a great product, for it being a new game (yes they had bugs, yes there was lack of balance, but that was normal for a new game).

It had rather good quality for that phase of development, but they just didn’t add up to the game in the months after, so it still is more or less as buggy and unbalanced and consequently it is rather bad for a game that has been out for over a year.

I enjoyed myself then, I can’t bring myself to log in now. That’s pretty much all I meant. It’s not good when a complete revert on patches would actually improve the gameplay.

Also why do you people complain about 30min GvG matches when the living story gold grind events take players away for weeks. It’s nonsensical.

ANet intervenes when people play arguably the most competitive aspect of this game currently, but allows people to farm rank in their esport sPvP mode.

Having these matches before reset has barely any impact on the scores at all.

ANet and the WvW team had a great product pre wow-transformation mode. Now it’s just a complete mess.

I logged in especially for this so feel speshul.

You see Devon is the mouthpiece for a development team that believes that you can design a competitive game mode while also having it imbalanced. Now the delusion of AAA rated games developers thinking they have competitive esports gameplay is pretty common these days, but including logical facilities in media is something new I’ve only really seen from ANet.

So now that’s out of the way, WvW is getting worse from a balance perspective. Bigger servers have bigger advantages, whether it’s coverage, easier access to large farming blobs for +1 tier gear, more gold/badges for siege, more map dominance meaning better access to the orb buffs and of course much quicker wxp farming.

So basically transfer to a t1 server now while you have the chance because everything else will be hell.

People will move upwards to get rewards, no question. Transfer fees aren’t even that much considering the other new content and the price tags there.

Lower level servers will be constantly at war with themselves between the guys who want to PvE and the guys who WvW, it already happens now. A real tangible prize will just ad more kitten to fling around. Oh and a hell of a lot of resentment since people who don’t even participate in WvW will be rewarded.

You do realize we’re talking about large scale fights where it’s next to impossible to see someone channelling their moves anyway right?

Also it’s not as if endurance regen would be replenishing at the normal rate while everything is else moving slow.

How does slowing the server clock introduce more problems? Things just run more slowly. Instead of doing x calculations per second it does x/d < max load calculations per second.

I guess you’d need to apply it to the entire map because afaik the maps aren’t subdivided into instances.

Well I’d rather have it being playable and slowed down than lagged out and not having any skills work.

Only thing that changes is you have more time to react, it doesn’t “gum” it up. Right now you can’t react at all in large fights because you can’t activate skills I know which I prefer. Also more reaction time only really nerfs the mindless aoe spam, direct instantaneous attacks will be just as dangerous.

Commands on the server are currently added to a queue and processed in order. If the load is more than the server can process, this queue grows at an alarming rate and the server is unable to catch up. Under time dilation, actions in the game such as firing weapons or moving would be slowed down to ensure the queue remains short and so the server stays under its maximum load. Instead of fights becoming laggy and unplayable, the entire battle would go into slow motion and remain responsive. It’s no silver bullet with which to kill the lag monster, but time dilation could make massive battles a lot more playable.

Admittedly I don’t know how the gw2 server handles the player inputs

It’s slows down the server time so that the server and people’s clients have more time to do the calculations. It means that everyone’s inputs will be registered correctly and you don’t have the “am I alive?” moments because you’ve been frozen out.

It’s less of a lag than putting things into slowmo.

Oh it’s gets better, so this “league” is actually a glorified achievement. I can’t wait to see what lovely objectives there will be on the checklist. Kill the grub 100 times, kill the centaurs 100 times etc etc.

I don’t think you understand the difference between “free win” and “at a disadvantage”.

10%+ is a significant advantage, people would kill for 10% bonus damage/hp/etc in actually competitive games.

I also can’t help but notice that you’re in a t8 server also, that recently moved up from t9. And I hate to bring any kind of tier elitism and I’m not saying that therefore you’re bad but t8 dude t8.

Skill particle effects at least tell you what skill is being used. Even though yes they are over done as well.

I wholeheartedly agree that the sPvP gear is too limiting, again ideally I’d want full customization there too.

Are there different causes for lag server side? Can there be lag derived from map population (WvW or PvE) as well as lag from server population?

Strictly speaking the lag isn’t due to population per se, it is due to concentrated groups of players using skills on each other. The server calculates things every time a skill fires off and the more people it hits the more calculations it does. So if you get enough people fighting against one another, or even fighting with one another, you start to see server CPU problems.

And secondly grinding gear is not training lol, it’s anticompetitive. Training is learning your class and optimizing builds, not “oh I got better gear than you lol”. If you suck so hard you lose to a guy who only just got the game then too bad, differentiation by player skill is what’s competitive.

^ Switch to a less stacked server then and you won’t see that. Don’t screw over those of us who aren’t on bandwagon zerg servers who enjoy things the way they are now.
And I now understand why OP wants to change it. We faced their server last matchup, they were terrible. Probably getting tired of getting owned and want less customization because he can’t think of a way to counter his opponent’s better builds. My guild slept on the bridge leading to their base while they tried unsuccessfully to kill us. Cant even kill us firing cannons at us and attacking us while we sleep.

To the above, yes I agree a prefect world would have the full customization options.

Upscaling isn’t really an issue- it really doesn’t take that long to level a toon to 80, especially with the current events, so upscaled people should be encouraged to level up to 80 while the going is good.

There are plenty of things for upscaled toons to do in wvw that can help- just don’t expect to level fast in wvw unless your server is either winning or has a karma train attitude.

Getting a set of exotics from temples shouldn’t take you too long, or do a little event farming at level 80 and earn the money to buy the gears.

Having the ability to swap around between classes and builds within wvw would be a disaster. i can just imagine the commander on ts saying ‘right everyone, roll mesmers, we’re going to attack their keep and chain time warp to melt the t3 gate in 20 seconds while hiding under bubbles’, soon as keep is taken roll out your necros.

The beauty of most of wvw is that you don’t know what you are going to be facing which keeps it fresh, which is the exact opposite of spvp with its’ cookie cutter builds.

It wouldn’t be any different, commanders already can get people to log onto class x for whatever reason. It’s why people who WvW have alts, so they can enrich the strategy. By your own words you say that getting a character WvW ready isn’t a problem so I’ll reiterate it wouldn’t be different in that respect.

Upscaling is a huge issue since an upscaled character is a massive rally bait at any scale, running an upleveled is holding back anyone you’re running with not just because dps/tankyness is crap but also because you give out a 50% heal to any downed enemy who finish them. And believe me you will get singled out and finished for that rally.

Upscaled shouldn’t be manning siege either because they wont have the Wxp to man it effectively and again will be holding back the rest of the group.

I’ll think you’ll find that WvW meta is “solved” and the best groups run very similar setups

Yep the game mode is horrible in sPvP heavily favouring specific builds. WvW is more diverse and not just because of the gear differences.

I’ll clarify a bit from my OP.

Ideally I’d want the full stats combos available, i.e. full accs, weapons and armours. Unfortunately I don’t think anet has the ability or inclination for something like that so I side with a copy paste of the sPvP setup.

Food shouldn’t be too hard to keep in, even though it is silly from a pvp standpoint.

I believe that the big ball of zerg with 13+% better gear is going to get their clocks cleaned . . . repeatedly . . . to the Arrow Carts on walls they can’t hit. I believe if someone starts the “ascended or go back to carebear land” hate on chat then they’re going to get reamed a new one by people who want as many people as possible actually contributing and not just leeching/akitteng doing nothing.

I expect it’ll pretty much remain the same as before Ascended, just with vocal elitism being tried and either shouted down or supported depending on what the people in the map are like. And still seeing Zerg v Door repeatedly like clockwork.

Ascended or go back to carebear land like an oxymoron considering how the new weapons are made tbh.

13% more hp and toughness will mean those acs will be cleaning a lot less clocks. Ok so maybe more like 8% more hp and toughness iirc. Also PvDoor will be 10% faster lol

You honestly believe the current no upleveled culture isn’t going to evolve into the ascended or gtfo culture?

WvW is already kittenty for people new to the game, no need to make it worse.

I just don’t understand the need for vertical progression like this. It’s as if the other games without it just don’t work, like quake 3 or starcraft for example. You can’t get better stuff in the game the longer you play it so it must be kitten right?

Most non braindead people play the game to have fun. Not as a way to replace their jobs grinding gear in order to have fun.

I play WvW 90%+ of the time, I didn’t even participate in the deadeye gold farming that much. I lost out. I don’t complain about it because it didn’t negatively affect my PvP performance by not doing it.

I complain about Ascended weapons because it means I have to farm champs in those awful champ rotations all day. Hoping that I get exos or ascended drops in WvW on a t5 server is akin to hoping god turns my morning kittens into gold. Just so I don’t hold back my team by not having the best gear available.

There’s a difference between a token “gear progression” that’s essentially just white noise, like the whole 1-79 levelling process, and forcing people to do specific content 100s of times per character for the best gear.

If you want to play a half decent MMO without typical gear progression or grind try Eve online. While you do progress it’s simply by playing time and you “level” passively regardless of what you do, even while you’re offline. You can get specialised in a specific ship and weapons set in a few weeks typically, and then you’re good for years and years and years. Only real grind element is for ISK which can be a bore sometimes. Everything else is on a plate ready for you to go as long as you have the ISK and skills required.

Pvp is somewhat expensive, but if you join a large alliance you can have a very decent WvW experience in a huge sandbox that doesn’t reset every week.

Ascended equipment is very likely to have 13% + boost to every statistic except percentage based ones. It actually changes because infusions are a fixed amount so amulets get a smaller increase as a percentage than rings etc.

You get at most 300 from traits and you get 916 from base stats which is at most 1216.

I work out that if you built towards one specific major stat you get at the end 969 (bonuses from gear and jewels, exo gear throughout).

A typical rune has a bonus of 165 to the primary stat to make 1134.

At this point we’re only covering the bonuses to stats, not inherent things like armour and weapon power. And we’ve got a roughly 50/50 split meaning that ascended gear will give ~6.5% performance over exo in a primary stat.

Taking weapons we add 1100 to 1134 to get 2234 which is roughly 2/3 of the combined total meaning ascended will give a boost of ~8.7% attack power.

Now I 100% understand that not all builds focus in one stat like this, but likewise not all build max out the trait line with the stat they want to make primary. It’s just an exemplification of a possible scenario in build dynamics.

Exotics are just over 10% better than rares on a stat by stat basis contrary to what the wiki says.

And there’s totally no prejudice against people wearing rares in WvW,, nope, never seen it.

Also can everyone who says 10% isn’t significant please send me 10% of their salary for 10% of their lifetimes. Thanks!
