Honestly for the amount that you need (making yourself exotic armor for example) I don’t feel like the price is that bad. So I have just been buying gossamer bolts from the trade post with each new piece of armor I craft. I think I only have gloves left to create. All the rest of my gear is exotic.

What are you using to salvage and what is your brother using? Best bet is to use the rare quality salvage kit that you make in the mystic forge.

Raided as a priest in WoW for years and I have to tell you. Don’t miss it at all.

Though I must say that I did a bit of WvW yesterday and there were some great AOE heals being laid down by guardians, engineers, and elementalists. They really made a huge difference too. So healing is still around maybe just not the way you liked it.

Lunatic Inquisition was insanely fun (and did reward personalized bags. 5 for a win and 3 for a loss).

Maybe you could just play to enjoy yourself rather than always needing a reward for every little thing you do?

Passive Aggressive.3154

Loved everything about it.

Lunatic Inquisition is AMAZING! Most fun I have had in “pvp” in this game. I would love it to be kept around year round! Only thing I would do is maybe give a chance on some kind of cool reward to encourage more people to try it out (for those who need some sort of reward possibility instead of just playing for fun).

Wasn’t able to complete Clock Tower but love that there is stuff like that in the game and think there should be more of (difficult content – not mandatory – not dumbed down).

ETA: And ANet I beg of you to ignore the crybabies who are demanding that rare skins be less rare. If everyone has them no one would want them. Keep rare items fairly rare so that they are actually super exciting to get.

I gave up. Was making progress but then decided to watch a video to see what else I could expect and realized that I had only made it half way (if that) and knew I didn’t have it in me to continue.

I hope that they will continue to include features like this though. I love that there are difficult things that people can be proud of if they accomplish and that not everyone will be able to do (as long as it is an optional bit of fun and not something required to play the game).

I really enjoyed the camaraderie I felt with others in my instance who were attempting it too.

Overall I think the Halloween events were really fun and made me feel better about the game itself (which I do think has some issues). I hope ANet doesn’t let whiners and complainers force them to dumb their content down to the lowest common denominator.

For those not bugged like the OP you can transmute it to your level 80 personal story back brace (or whatever it is called) and can thus use a max level gem in it. I did so myself today.

I think they purposely didn’t give it a level so you can use it on any level alt or character you are able to get it with but still have the option to transmute.

First Game Ever I have not enjoyed instanced pvp..

in PvP

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

I am sort of having fun but it is absolutely not sustainable.

Aside from the complaints in this thread that I agree with I think the things that annoy me most about pvp is the camera angles. Never in a game have I had to manually adjust my camera so many times because the camera doesn’t really follow my character when he changes direction.

The sloowwwwww grind is probably the biggest killer. I am pretty sure they did this because your ranking is account wide. IMO they should have made it so that you rank faster but it is character based. You can still hold onto the gear that your highest ranked character wins and pass it along to your alts but they can’t wear it until they are high enough rank themselves. This would provide a bit of a carrot on a stick for players who make alts but not make it a grueling grind for those who don’t.

As many flaws as WAR had I really miss it so much. Never had so much fun pvping in my life. I was hoping that GW2 would fill that spot in my heart in both PvP and WvW but sadly it doesn’t even come close.

I just decided to PvP with my level 25 thief yesterday. I’ve decided that you would have to be crazy to pvp with anything other than a thief. I am absolutely HORRIBLE at thief but I am making two to three times as much glory as I did on any other profession I have tried including my main mesmer.

The nerf bat is definitely coming and I am going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I definitely agree with Rickshaw a few posts above. All of those issues with other classes that he listed are things that need to be dealt with to make pvp more enjoyable for everyone.

Charr mesmer = short end of the stick

in Mesmer

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

I made a female Charr elementalist but deleted her after I went to the mists and previewed all the light armor sets.

Light armor is fairly awful in this game though. There are very few sets I like. ANet sort of missed the mark with the armor in this game. I’m not sure why I am surprised since I wasn’t crazy about most of the armor in GW1.

Light armor is pretty bad, medium armor is OK but all looks the same (think witch hunter from Warhammer Online – cool look but more variety would be nice), heavy armor is the only thing that I really like. So I have been leveling a guardian and warrior.

Hopefully they add new armors to the game and put more thought into how they look on ALL the races. The Charr definitely get the short end of the stick.

Illusionary Leap bug?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

Never have a problem with the illusion not spawning in PvE. Any time it doesn’t it is because I misjudged and was not in range. I have had an issue with any sort of terrain difference between myself and the mob causing the clone to spawn in the wrong spot.

Now PvP is a totally different story. I don’t know if it is lag or what is the problem but sword has been pretty much worthless for me. Illusionary leap never works as intended.

I definitely love staff and was wondering how a mesmer could even dream of playing without having it as one of their weapons sets. But I recently changed to a shatter build and am using sword/pistol and greatsword and I have to say it is a ton of fun. I never loved the greatsword until I tried it with a shatter build.

But yeah staff is pretty sweet especially if you want to survive ridiculous odds in both PvE and PvP. That is the thing I do really like about this game. The ability to switch weapons and traits and feel like you are playing a totally different class.

Why Mesmer PvE is awkward

in Mesmer

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

I’m going to assume that you’re talking about Orr? I have yet to begin Orr’s maps, but I have 100%‘d every other maps(other than PvP) and I’ve never felt awkward, nor had trouble fighting multiple mobs.

The problem with mesmers is in the big zerg groups that do dynamic events in Orr for drops, money, and karma. The groups are so big that many of the mobs drop before you can even tag them (classes with many AOE skills have it a lot easier).

I am not really sure that I agree that this is a problem with the mesmer class however. I think it is more of a problem with the game mechanics that make people want to farm this way. It is SOOOO freaking boring and I can’t imagine that this is what ANet wanted when they were building this game.

But the facts are that everything costs huge amounts of either money or karma and people will always find the quickest ways to farm to get their needed currency.

ANet needs to address the problems causing people to want to play this way just as much as they need to address mesmer aoe and tagging abilities.

Passive Aggressive.3154

Are you crafting smart? Leveling tailoring only via discoveries and for the most part only learning the shoulders, gloves, helm recipes to level with because they use the least amount of mats?
If you are almost to the next level do you salvage the stuff you made to get the rest of the mats you need? If you are still running out the trading post is obviously another option as has been mentioned. It isn’t so bad buying them if you just need a few things to finish making one or two items to get you into that next bracket.

The fine quality mats are more annoying for me than the common drops. Especially as you get higher and higher and they each insignia starts to require more and more mats.

level up faster by crafting a variety of weapons?

in Crafting

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

You level up faster by doing discoveries. You should almost never have to make items from individual recipes.

A weaponsmith doesn’t have any specialty. He can craft any of the weapon types he can make (I think there are 7 for weaponsmith) equally well. For the rifle I believe you will need to level huntsman. And you should look into the specifics of the legendaries that you want because they may require other crafting skills to be at 400.

Where did all the armor design go?

in Crafting

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

You should definitely start to see some different armor designs by level 30. Each bracket of new crafting armor changes appearance and then there is a design for rare sets (the ingredients of which are made via recipes bought with karma from the armorsmith and other vendors). There are also rewards for karma from the different heart vendors in the zones. I know the human and charr have different designs for theirs. I haven’t looked at the other races vendors. There are also different designs available via drops at the trading post and of course higher level gets you dungeon gear.

Not as much fun at 80 …. Elite \ Champions no Drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Passive Aggressive.3154

Passive Aggressive.3154

WoW was the same way. The thing with champion mobs is if they dropped better loot or loot at a higher rate than regular mobs than people would ONLY kill champions. There would be a champion killing zerg that would run around in search of them. People would be calling out that champions were up and everyone would drop what they were doing to run off and kill that champ.

Some of the champion fights I have participated in this game have been the most fun I have had (a few others have been truly awful though). I don’t think the loot needs to be any different. I DO think that there should be consistency on which dynamic events result in a chest reward at the end of a chain though.

What is the point of dodge when you are just going to end up rolling into another red circle and then another red circle that you can barely see.

I’m leveling a guardian and warrior and I think they are fun classes but I’m worried I won’t be good enough to run any dungeons with them. I’m definitely in awe of people who are good at melee. How do you do it in this game?
