Siege shenanigans. Siegenanigans.
I think the Mesmer Smoke Bomb was a Phantasmal Rogue – it’s a Mesmer downed skill, with a long ‘cool-up’ time, after you’re downed. You can’t use it for like six seconds after you’re downed, so you rarely see them.
“Summon a phantasmal rogue that deals double damage from behind. " -tooltip
Some of the various Phantasm types that a Mesmer can spawn are modeled on other Professions – that one is a Thief, so it does Thief attacks.
For instance I think the Phantasmal Berserker (modeled on a Warrior) attack shows up as " Whirlwind Attack", which is the warrior spinning-charge-ey thing.
This, so much. NICE LAGTASTIC UPDATE ANET! GG!
And culling is worse than it has ever been. I quit, for at least this week.
I cannot say that I’m not massively disappointed. I know a lot of other people I play with will be as well.
I think WvW is going to be deserted for some weeks now that people know they have nothing imminent to look forward to, on top of multiple upcoming weeks of wildly mismatched servers ‘fighting’ (more like one server flailing about on desperate defense of one objective at a time while the other gets bored playing ‘Player Versus Door’ and falling asleep while zerging down various NPCs with no resistance) each other.
Welp, it was fun while it sort of lasted.
Are Guardians mandatory for group condition removal and/or bubble-blocking chokepoints?
Are stealth-oriented Thieves mandatory for supply-line ganking and scouting?
Are condition Necros mandatory for mass condition application and area denial? (especially of portal bomb exits… can’t count how many times Well of Corruption has exploded incoming portal zergs, lol)
Are staff Eles mandatory for destroying siege out of line-of-sight with Meteor Shower?
I could go on. All professions traited for special skills, or using certain skill sets are very useful and powerful. I don’t even run with Portal on the skill bar, with my Berserker Shatter Mesmer. No one seems to mind, because teams are almost always large and diverse enough that somebody is set up for some sort of powerful utility.
Oh and clone-spawning skills don’t ignore LoS. You, or your seige were in LoS when they ability was cast.
Bloated. You guys on Kain must be so bored. I was bored this morning, and I rolled into EBL, during early morning NA, (I think there were maybe three Mag players on the whole map) and killed one Yak ya don’t even need (was just outside our spawn, and on the way to a full keep), and a six man team showed up (too late).
It must be really dull to just PVDoor and fight NPCs all night. Makes me wonder why server match ups are worldwide and not separated by region.
Im really surprised to see these kind of threads – I thought everybody complained about the game being too easy. But I guess im just not that well informed.
It really is that the quests and mobs and mob density and timing are identical for all professions.
I have two humans, a Warrior and a Necro – my Warrior had zero issue in Story Mode… my Necro… well. Cast times and placement of ‘Mark’ times are killing me in places my War sailed through by spamming autoattack and standing in place. They’re both durable, stacked Rabid gear on my Necro – it’s just he’s still in light armor, can’t handle small spaces where you can’t kite, and multiple knockdown/pull/interrupt mobs, without blowing through all the most powerful skills… which are then on cooldown for the next wave or waves…
Yes, there’s Necro builds that handle the problem stuff better than mine(and there’s Warrior builds that wouldn’t have handled the tougher SM moments as well), but you can’t retrain in an SM instance.
It’s the inconsistency created by a consistent design (story mode) put up against an incredibly customizable element (the character). So there’s really insanely frustrating moments that eventually a lot of players will run head on into…
My latest gripe – why such high ‘downed state’ damage output?
Was yak-guarding on my condition Necro, with a Mesmer bro this weekend, had an epic 2v2 encounter versus two thieves, managed to actually down both quickly (crazy, I know!) with some well timed Confusion, Shatters, Wells, Marks and DeathShroud action… then I was insta-downed because just one of them spamming #1 attacks on me took my remaining 5k HP or so down to nothing in seconds. Conditions had already downed my Mesmer partner at that point, so there we were, four downed players in a downed state battle, which was easily won by the thieves just eating through our remaining health bars faster than either of us could possibly keep up with. Bah.
This can be done in five minutes in any zone with ‘contested’ camps. Did it in Frostgorge between the Refugees and some fallen Quaggan guards. Bam, done in five.
NPC rezzes count, as they should, you ninnies.
It’s not Berserker, it’s ‘Cavalier’ – http://dulfy.net/2013/01/28/gw2-new-orr-temple-exotics/
Similar but replaces Precision with Toughness. I got some for my WvW-centered Shatter Mesmer, seems a good stat set for that so far; got enough crit from other sources and can use the Toughness.
What a worthless week – can’t field anywhere near the actual queue limit of players due to a well-reported bug = 30 defenders trying to hold an entire map versus 100-200 invaders.

GG ANet! They should pretty much restart scores again after the fix is in for this.
I just want to know how a BL can be queued when it’s not even close to full? This is a new and unwelcome problem I’ve seen this weekend more than once.
Maguuma has had a queue for the last three hours, while we don’t have more than 30-35 players in the map.
Shi’s bugged yo.
The camera positioning for this is terrible. At the start you have to pivot to see any indicator banners, then quick repivot to move forward properly at the right time…
Why is there a chasm that’s unlit and un-viewable at the third safe zone? “Oh yeah I did it, let’s get to the wall of safe-teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-aaaaaaaagh!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh, Back to the start. Maybe I should just go do something productive instead”
Stop hiring people who hate video games and video game players as designers, please.
With an exotic’d out 80, I don’t do any of those without getting naked and just not caring about having to respawn and run and repeat. Otherwise it’s like there’s a mandatory tax on personal story stuff.
Yeah it’s the ineffective NPC ‘help’ and dogpiling of mobs that always cause the issue. Hey sure let’s send eight Risen with knockdowns at the player at once. They won’t wind up locked out using their skills for the whole fight and then dying… will they?
Maybe they should actually play what they implement… shocking idea.
Today Mr. K Lemon was focused by the Champion Risen Brute for over five minutes, as many valiant but ineffective passers-by attempted to DPS the beast into submission. Eventually the repetition of running in circles became to much and boredom and a sense of futility caused him to zig when he should have zagged, and he was downed. Amazingly, the same heroic passers-by were able to revive Mr. Lemon, and he seemed to be in good health until the beast was subdued and looted. At that moment he promptly died from a case of terminal diminishing returns.
He leaves his collection of blue loot and porous bones to whoever still has the patience to play the game. Mr. Lemon’s surviving guildmates will be held responsible for his 5 silver repair bill, as the reward of 1s and change from the smiting of the Champion Risen Brute did not outweigh the cost of repairing his gear in preparation for his funeral services, in which his lifeless body will be lit on fire and thrown into the Lions Arch sewers.
No nurfs are need with the thief. Thieves are being played like intended.
LOL, in that case, nearly every other profession in the game needs a massive buff, then.
Give everyone a heat seeking nuclear missile that does 50k damage, that auto-fires at any stealthed target in 1200 units range, once a minute, sounds about right.
I have four 80s, and about 900 hours in game.
Looted two exotics ever, both junk worth the same as a rare or less.
They need to get dungeons, and the Dragons right first.
I’m willing to bet dungeons will always remain 5 man, and all larger scale stuff will be open world.
This.
Dungeons are very problematic and buggy. Combat spaces are often tight and camera-spasm inducing and negate the entire dodge mechanic or positioning as gameplay. Trash mobs are boring, unrewarding damage sponges so avoiding them is the highest priority (and often harder than the actual boss fights).
Dragons are poorly implemented and in some cases poorly designed bore-fests. Whose idea was it to have players target the dragons stupid paws and face?! Really? Why are they so massively scripted and repetitive? No change in behavior from appearance to appearance.
And, no worthwhile rewards in either without being a Magic Find leech.
Why people is so upset with CD?
I mean, it’s a kitten secondary stat. It’s not suppose to do the killing for you, just add some pressure to your target. Trying to kill with CD only is like trying to survive with healing power only (ignoring vitality and toughness).
Yes, it can be removed but you need to waste a trait, skill or an utility skill and that mean less dmg, defense or something else. And even if conditions are easily removed, you can always put more.
You do know that condition damage is pretty much all the Necro profession has to work with, don’t you? Oh let me add some pressure to the target with my slow-moving, slow attack speed, sounds-like-a-dog-throwing-up staff #1 attack. Go go minor damage that’s a less than half as intense as any (even non-buffed) bleed I can place on a target.
Necros are fine against things that can bleed.
Anything else, I feel like a useless liability.
World objects that need direct damage to kill (all the kinds of turrets, Fimbul’s ice shield in HotW, siege in WvW, ANYTHING like that) I’m stuck tickling it down for minutes at a time unless I blow all my DeathShroud lifeforce on attack #1 – and I can’t get lifeforce back from object damage so that just works once and not for long enough.
What a fatheaded idiot manchild.
Starting to feel like I’ve wasted a lot of time in this game, and that the things I like about are almost all things the devs apparently didn’t intend.
The live thing was a horrorshow of dismay and disappointment.
Oh well, was a fun few months.
I thought it was great at first – I started the game in a small guild of friends, that’s not very active, but occasionally I like to rep it so I can communicate with the people in it. I thought, “this is great – I can keep in touch with these guys that aren’t that serious, AND be in a larger more serious guild like I want to be”. But no. Apparently, not full-time repping is a kick-able offense if you join almost any larger guild. You will get hassled to rep constantly, and eventually you’ll just have to leave because of harassment or get kicked.
TLDR: No one allows you to actually rep any guild other than their own, these days – you will be kicked for daring to actually rep one of the smaller guilds you’re in. So what’s the point of the multi-guild system, in that case?
Low levels, maybe need adjustment here and there – but I think the opposite is true with the downscaling at high levels -it feels very uneven – I will not go anywhere near the 70-74 level areas of Orr with my 80s any more.
It’s ridiculous but for some reason some downscale levels feel like you’ve been really crippled- that’s one. The 80 zones my characters can do fine, take some damage, deal enough to be interesting and challenging. For some reason every time I go around the lower Orr areas I get my butt handed to me all the time – for instance, my meh-geared Mesmer does say about 1500 average for the last hit of a Greatsword #1 attack in the 80 Orr zones – I go to the level 70-74 zones and I’m suddenly peaking at 800-900 for the same attack – that’s an extremely skewed scaling down for just 5 or so levels – while the damage output of the mobs there seems almost the same as the level 80 ones. I got one-shot by a Risen Shark (I think it was some high damage specialized frenzied attack ate more than half my health right off the bat, and then the 4+ bleeds ticking at 200+ damage just ate the rest while it’s autoattacks went on) while swimming to get a POI. Making money in this game is already nerfed to oblivion without being taxed with repair and respawn bills all the time.
Oh they say the freaking grid pattern of mobs in Orr is by design. No, it’s a pattern, not a design. It’s a checkerboard, a grid. And it’s boring and frustrating and exhausting and unrewarding (thanks, loot nerfs).
What’s the deal with all the massive bugs in this game? GOTY? Really?
Today was a total letdown for level 80 PVE – Balthazar event bugged out three times in a row; group gave up on it and decided to just run other random group events in Orr… guess how many we’ren’t bugged? No, not how many were stuck and bugged out, that list would be too long. We found about four that were actually in a working state.
So, decided to do some instances. Oh my, during a CoF run, the bomb-run event got failed because a newer player didn’t work quite fast enough/got killed/etc… so we restart. BUGGED. Stuck. NPC won’t accept any bombs. Group disintegrates. What a relaxing weekend afternoon and evening! Argh my sarcasm-gland just exploded.
Can we please get some serious effort at maintaining basic functionality of the end game content?
If it we’ren’t for WvW, I’d have deleted my chars and left already…
Did you know you can hit people while they’re stealthed?
LOL, yeah you can hit them with maybe 1 useful skill (usually with a massive cooldown) on many professions. Those are the ones that aren’t massively delayed in effect or aren’t plain as day marked out so they’re simply avoided.
Oh let me use that one weak cone-shaped AoE knockback I have available on my Mesmer, or maybe shatter my clones and hope, oh but I need to have a target to create any and all clones, so I actually don’t have any clones. Not like even the dumbest thief can’t just reposition away from AoE. Hey maybe thieves shouldn’t be able to see my Necro’s AoE marks when stealthed. That’d be nice. Oh but they can, and just evade and reposition.
I love it if I wouldn’t see ‘You need to target an enemy to use that skill’ a dozen times in every perma-stealth thief fight. Delay removing them as a target when they stealth, for even one second, kitten Oh one can dream.
But in game, you barely find anyone, who has negative impressions or opinions of the game.
Your experience differs from mine. You should hear the stuff on a voicechat server and/or in a guild full of long-time MMO players/gamers in general, who think critically. Even with all the complaining, those kind of players are still playing because of friends and because it’s technically free, and because it only takes the very occasional high point in your experience (and there still are those for even the most jaded and bitter player) to make you come back for more – it’s the addiction mechanism at work.
Hrmm, the ‘easy’ requirement makes this tough – culling is just about the #1 problem in WvW, but I am sure the fix is far from easy.
1. No free server transfers
2. Make squads meaningful for other than just the Commander and for having awareness of player supply. Basically copy WoW raid groups, so squads are made up of multiple 5-man parties and have a UI presence and more useful functionality
3. Allow Commanders to make players in their squads into temporary ‘subcommanders’ with different/differently colored map icons, like1 per a five man party.
If ANet didn’t like it, it’d have been patched out long ago.
There’s only so many spots where you can do it, all they’d have to do is add guard positions at those locations, and adding spawn points/entities to a map is very easy, as you can see from how holiday events work, with the gifts/halloween portals, etc..
But I do find it funny how much ire is directed towards us when mesmers have somehow fallen off the radar.
It is my personal goal to bring mesmer QQ back into style.
You found a nice build in the niche of crappy mesmers. However, it takes 0 skill to stack confusions and have your opponent kill themselves because of it.
It doesn’t take skill to actually have awareness and take the finger off the trigger of yer glass cannon for five seconds. Yeesh.
Try reacting properly to your opponents moves, for once.
I just want to know why I can’t get bags to save my life on my condition Necro.
It’s very lame. I have as many badges on my level 40-50 Mesmer and Theif as my level 80 Necro, my first character that I’ve done more WvW on than any other.
Thief,Warrior or Mesmer if you like the colour purple. The rest of the classes arn’t even worth mentioning. And I leveled Ranger and Engineer to 80, what a waste of bloody time.
He is talking about PvE and your advise is to roll a Mesmer? Have you ever tried to level a Mesmer in PvE? It probably is the weakest PvE profession in the whole kitten game and before level 40 it is just pure pain.
If you want an easy to level profession go with guardian or warrior. Both are fairly fun and pretty fast in getting things down.
I have found this to be completely untrue. Necro. Leveling a Necro was torture in my experience, and my Mesmer is rolling through stuff easily.
Greatsword and Scepter/Focus provides high direct damage and utility, respectively. Well timed Confusion wrecks mobs, Illusionary Berserker the same…Greatsword #1 eats mob HP as long you’re not dumb enough to stand on top of your target…and it synergizes with Greatsword #5 knockback. Stun breaks, escape mechanisms, I love it.
I dunno man, keep your weapons and gear appropriate to your level and you’re good w/ Mesmer. I admit I may have been playing my Necro in a bad way to level (I went condition damage from the get go and avoided minions), but Mesmer just not a weak profession at all.
Mesmer. You’re always rolling with your gang of yourselves.
I am wondering if ‘vend almost everything because almost everything is worthless on the TP’ is the economy they wanted.
I’ve gotten some Masterwork low to mid-level stuff and thought it was sellable, only to go to the TP and see it’s listed for ONE COPPER.
Why? How’s that work? The vendor would give you anywhere from 50c to 1s and change for these items… the materials you’d salvage would be worth almost that much you’d think…
Effectively, no. In theory, yes.
Can you provide specific examples of non-soloable events? At scale 1, they’re all soloable, or should be. Are other players in the area scaling up the event without helping?
Well the things I don’t know about this game could fill a book – this explains so much, as I didn’t know player presence influenced event difficulty.
People just derping around/afk/not contributing to events is very common – I didn’t think the guy standing on the roof of the ‘clear the village’ event is actually making me work harder.
Unless they actually have to start damaging the mobs/world objects to make the event scale, of course. If they just have to ‘be in the area’, that’s very likely the cause of much of my heartache and frustration. I mean, there’s a lot of waypoints that are in range of events, and most world waypoints seem to have at least one person who ported in and then went AFK.
What profession actually just wants Power/Toughness/Vit gear anyway? I wouldn’t use it on the classes I have at 80, anyway (Necro/Warrior). I doubt I’ll ever use any of my badges on my Mesmer or Theif when they’re 80, either.
Guardians? That’s all I can think of that might…
You do know its not just gear they sell for badges. They sell siege and also that axe for a legendary weapon
Yes. I do. I didn’t ask about that.

I agree that the overall ‘world’ experience is very imbalanced – it’s too intense too often and for too long. It’s draining, it’s annoying, it’s frustrating.
Wait… WHAT?!
There are diminishing returns on KARMA GAINS in the game?!
WHAT?! No… seriously. WHAT?!
I can’t believe this. WHY?! If this is true, I am the the hell outta here, and off to any other game at this point.
Holy frijoles. I’m trying to do this Centaur camp event in Gendarran Fields… I have to break a gate down to fight Rock Dogs.
Had to kill two guard Centaurs 1st – then beat the gate down. Then attacked one Rock Dog – by the time I’d killed the single Rock Dog… the GUARDS AND THE GATE RESPAWNED.
WHAT THE HELL KIND OF DESIGN IS THIS?
After a few weeks of playing, I’ve realized how many times I’ve just been able to ‘cheese’ the events and fufill the requirements for many many many of the Heart event by doing what feels like glitching the thing. No reason to actually GO INTO any cave, or camp, or whatever, when you can just hang on the edge and kill the same mobs over and over (meaning all your level designers work is worthless because no one ever sees or interacts with 75% of it).
(edited by PolarApe.9351)
Next time I see a few people standing on a location and continuously killing the same respawning mob I will try and Fraps it.
I’ve seen it multiple times in Orr, a handful of people just sitting around re-killing the same mob over and over and over for 15 minutes at a time.
Centaurs near Beetletun, the entrance to one of their camps – they continuously respawn in under 30 seconds, I will try and get that too – some of this is bad level design, as the spawning locations for special event mobs aren’t actually inside the area of the event – so you’re just tootling along and then there’s a massive uptick in mob respawn in a place you’re just trying to get through, then once you give up and run or get killed, you encounter the ‘defend the X against the Y!’ event – and you never knew the respawns were supposed to be feeding that event.
Just tell them it’s ‘farmable’ and they’ll nerf it in a heartbeat.
Activate Breakout Event, siege tower, take tower, get XP, cash, and Karma. Leave tower, tower gets re-taken by home team.
Then activate another Breakout Event, siege tower, take tower, get XP, cash, and Karma. Leave tower, tower gets re-taken by home team.
Repeat!
Got my Thief from 46-50 last night.
On top of this they started nerfing the players ability to make gold in the game. I am not ignorant mind you, I know that some of the nerfing was to deal with the bot problem but a lot of it, in my opinion, was devised in a plot hatched by the corporate accountants to force the sell of gems.
This is a very bad argument.
Today, for someone to buy Mjolnir using gems, it would cost more or less one thousand dollars. How much more do you think that item would sell if it cost 20 dollars?
The reason why farming has been nerfed – as it should be – is in my signature. Farmers and grinders are complaining that grinding is unrewarding, but GW2 was from the beggining meant to not be a grindy game. If you bought GW2 to grind, you have the wrong game.
What’s not grindy about this game? Doing the same dungeons over and over to get tokens (what a joke of game mechanic) to get exotic gear you need, then other ones dozens of times to get gear you want to transmute? Having to constantly re-do group events just to temporarily open up access to locations/waypoints/dungeons? Every aspect of this game is a grind in some way.
You’re fooling yourself, buddy.
Please make Champions worth doing at all. Why bother with them when there’s so many other ways to get crappy drops and XP and Karma?
Nope. Maybe after a massive PVE revamping patch.
I liked it last week. This week it’s back to OH GOD WHERE DID THEY COME FROM?!!! … again.
Four times today on two characters I was lied to by the rendering engine.
Oh there’s just three at that ballista site… OH GOD FIFTEEN… Dead.
Looks like they’re testing Garrison’s defenses, just a handful at west gate guys… OH MY GOD THEY’RE ALL HERE… Gate melted Garrison outer breached… Dead.
Oh no mah Guardian bro is in some trouble below the tower with a couple enemies… leap down to charge to the rescueOH GOD OH GOD THEY’RE ALL RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW… Dead.
There’s just a couple defenders here let’s blast this tower with our smallish group … OH GOD THE WALLS ARE FILLED WITH RED TEXT… Wiped.
