Empa pretty much hits the nail on the head. It doesn’t matter if this trait is useless against certain classes/builds. The idea behind the skill is horrible and its implementation explains all this kitten we have going on right now, which is no decent skill ceiling. Those hard counters are a brilliant game mechanic indeed. At the time it was implemented you could foreshadow that this game will not get more competitive. And guess what? There’s zero competition anymore. I wonder why.

Goodbye guys. Best of luck for your future journeys. Gotta love ANETs decision-making.
I’m not a dev, but I can give you the answer. No.
Yes. ’Nuff said.
I’m actually excited to see how the devs want to make this game skillful.
They have been trying.
The game has only gotten less skillful.
There’s a reason next to every serious PvP’er left GW2.
It’s kinda sad. There’s absolutely ZERO competition. You can pick a class, play it for a week and be as good as someone who played since beta. You just go through your skill rotation and spam your stuff because most of the time you can’t react to your enemy properly anyway.

I’m actually excited to see how the devs want to make this game skillful. A few changes to skills won’t cut it. The game is too fast and there’s far too much spam, passiveness and rng involved. This game needs a massive overhaul, to be honest. Begin with making important skills more telegraphed, fixing all the particle stuff flying at you and rewarding the pvp-ers appropriately. These issues are actually MUCH more important than those changes to skills and traits which won’t change the key issues this game currently has anyway.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
To not implement it at all.
1. Rewarding of skillful/thoughtful play (passive effects, AI, skill-spamming, dodge-spamming are not skillful…)
2. Rewards and reasons to actually play PvP.
3. More resources and faster development.
4. Build diversity and balance.

Gotta love the cynical responses. PvP-ers might not get as much love in this game as they diserve imo, but the community really IS priceless xD.

Chris, I remain sceptical and I have one question still. Why did it take a year to start communicating about collaborative development with us? From now on, be more open about the things you work on, about the way you want to take this game. So much agony on this forum could’ve been prevented if you guys kept posting more frequently, informing us and asking us for feedback. Instead some sub-forums feel like they’re being completely ignored. Still, thank you for posting here. A lot of us players will be happier if you continue to post frequently in the the future.
I’d rather finish an epic quest-line where skill is actually required to get a piece of the armor-set, instead of grinding all day. Why doesn’t ANET want us to feel accomplishment for doing quests? No wonder I don’t feel connected to the game-world. No decent quests, no interesting lore, no immersion. It just boggles my mind. Seriously, it’s getting old.
Then why are you still here?
Because this game has massive potential to be a great one.

They want the warrior to have an even sturdier body. I thought that was obvious.

Asuka, he’s just demotivated of being killed by TTS all the time.
I think thieves should get harvesting sickles. That would be glorious…
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
i think what the community needs are some “representatives”
and those to talk with the anet devsmaybe this will improve the communication ?
Those representatives would need to have nerves of steel because ANET doesn’t really listen to our feedback. It’s like talking to a brick wall.
Some servers nearly died out, some got new guilds and people transferring there from those dying servers. But in general, there are less people playing the game now. Like aspirine said, deso is pretty active, so check it out.

Haha… how about redo gw1 with better graphics for the pve fetishists plus some extras
It’s not “off the table”. Maybe we’ll see it “soon”.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
If you didn’t like it before, you won’t like it now.
Pretty much this. It’s the same game with new added content from living world (which isn’t too exciting, imo).
Well, GW2 cetrainly did blow my mind, alright. Also, it’s definitely the game I play when I want to pvp. Maybe we’ll see a pvp-population increase by 2017.

All ANET had to do was to make the right decisions (and set right priorities) to make PvP more enjoyable. So far, almost every decision was wrong. Leaderboards are still broken. Class/build balance is still messed up, the game is not skillful, but brainless. There are still no rewards. HELLO, it’s already a year late!!! Updates are slow as heck. Every patch brings new problems (endurance bar and massive lags). I have no hopes for this game. Not in the near future, at least (if ever…). As long as ANET will mess up things, noone will stay in this game for long.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
I think you ignore the problem that it’s horrible to watch and those specs are really easy to play. And please, for the love of god, tell me how you’re supposed to dodge those key abilities when you can’t read what the enemy is doing in all of this mess on the nodes? Are you seriously talking about SKILLZ here? Fights are RNG, most of the time. I won’t even start to explain why. So no, I don’t want to get used to it.
I think I would still like to see some sort of nerf to the elite spirit. Maybe cut its HP by a third? Or make it so it doesnt activate on death?
The elite spirit should actually be buffed, so you don’t have to rezz yourself anymore. The spirit will do it for you. This is what animal friends are for… This way, the spirit actively reacts to your passiveness in downstate.

Maybe we are a little immature indeed. But we’re standing up for the cause, so it’s fine :P.
Well, it was kinda sad listening to the rant. All these constructive suggestions we made until now are probably not making a difference, as it seems. The pvp-team is just so slow to implement those ideas. I don’t blame them. If they really lack the manpower to pull this off, then there’s not much they can do either. Helseth is rough around the edges, but he seems like a cool guy. I hope he’ll still hang out in the Mists from time to time. Thank you for the rants, Helseth.

But Countless, I care about town clothes :/.

I played this game for 10 months now. You think, you would develop an eye for big teamfights. But no, I couldn’t even tell what was happening, most of the time. How is this fun to watch? You know that the player went down and the others try to rezz him. But you don’t know what ate at his life-bar. It’s pure chaos.
Atleast Sync and CC get a nice goodbye gift.
I think they should do a boycott. Last minute neither teams play.
Everybody should just all out aoe-spam on one point, while having a gazillion pets.
Oh wait, that’s how it works…
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
Mod jon_peters: you have to actively react to all the passive things going on
Mod jon_peters: so its still very reactionary and there is still a LOT of skill in spirit ranger
Spamming a button is not as easy as it looks like. It requires concentration.
Well, I think this is it. Either we get a decent patch after pax, or this is probably the nail in the coffin for me here. I don’t expect much, but I still secretly hope that pvp takes a right direction for once.
Thank you for the streams. It’s a BIG step in the right direction. Keep it up.
It’s not you, it’s the whole system. I dropped about 300 ranks (from 170 or so) because I just had bad luck with the enemy teams I faced. The worst thing is that you keep dropping and dropping because the top solo queue players play in one and the same team (hello, weird matchmaking) which I found to be very frustrating. It’s not that the people I played with were bad. It’s just that people on the top have a better understanding of the game (which is why they’re at the top, after all). So you’re at a big disadvantage when you start the game. But it gets even harder to play against them because those at the top probably know each other already. So they go TS and communicate. You and your team can’t do that. New players who want to start out playing competetively have almost zero chance to climb the leaderboards, they get discouraged and stop playing, like I did. The gap between new pvp-ers and the already existing teams is enormous, so I hoped that solo queue will help to close that gap a bit, but I feel like the opposite happens. Just don’t take solo queue too seriously, you’ll just end up raging all the time.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
Skyhammer in solo queue really IS an experience. Not a good one.
I don’t know how one could say that sPvP is doing good at the moment… I think he’s trolling.
Bumping… I would really love some feedback of the developers. I know they won’t do much until PAX ends, but a little communication and some answers would be nice. Why is there so much mindless button-mashing and luck involved in this game (random dodging etc.)? And why is there so little skill required to run certain builds? Why is solo queue so awkward? After investing so much time playing pvp and hoping for the best, I feel like we should at least get an answer.

Just made my Daily in SoloQ. Guess what? 3 times temple with matchmaking like this:

Thats just boring and demotivating. Hows the matchmaking working? Just all high-/lowranks together into 1 team to set them against each other? I thought matchmaking is for building even teams???
Just look at the enemy’s team ranks. My gosh xD… The matchmaking is useless.
I really wanted to take solo que seriously, but this is just ridiculous.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
A couple of days ago, I had the delight of playing skyhammer 6-times in a row. Today I was only playing temple. Solo queue is just weird. I played like 40 matches in the last few days and somehow I only played legacy and khylo twice…

The meta is horrible at the moment. It feels brainless and spammy. I started playing a necro a week ago, and it’s getting boring already. Spam and spam some more. Also, why are there so many builds you can’t do anything against, most of the time? As a necro you chain-fear people to death, if they can’t break out of it/ or they don’t have stability. As a warrior you cc and stun people to death, if they don’t have any stunbreakers. Also thieves eating your whole hp in seconds. I won’t even start commenting on spirit rangers… This game is so fast at times that you go from 20000 to 0 in a couple of seconds. If a necro is putting condis on you, you don’t even have the time to look at what condis, or how many stacks he put on you. You just spam your condi-cleanses, like there’s no tomorrow. It’s just stupid. And if he runs spite, you’ll have almost every single condi on you in 1 hit. Really? Now try to cleanse that off. I wish the game would just slow the heck down, so you could actually think about what you’re doing and not spamming you skills and evades and hoping that you’ll win by luck… This game has a lot of potential, but ANET has to really do something, in order for this game to be/ and stay competitive.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
Excellent rant by Helseth, not much else to say. The problem is that you can’t actually react to enemies properly. Most of the time, dodging is just a lucky guess. Especially against asuras.

Welcome to GW2. No one wants to defend the nodes, not even that bunker guardian on your team. Why bring a guard in the first place then? It’s a mess sometimes. They need to reward people actually doing the right things to win the game.
Reward = win, if they are doing the right things to win the game..
The win is still not enough of a reward apparently. People should be encouraged to play conquest how it’s supposed to be played, like defending your nodes. It’s still conquest after all. Some new game-modes would really be nice though.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
Thieves and rangers have some good builds for pvp. Dagger/Pistol and Sword/Dagger are the best thief-builds. Rangers often run spirits nowadays. The classes are both viable.
Necros and engis are also very strong at the moment because conditions are pretty much out of control.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
I would suggest playing a warrior. They’re easy to pick up for new players, good in pve and also needed in dungeons. They can also hold their own in WvW.
Add me too :P. I’m also on Desolation, leveling a warrior currently.

I support this. It’s already hard enough to tell what the opponent is doing, in between of all those aoe-effects flying at you.
Mesmers are good in dealing damage and bursting down targets, especially the shatter builds. They’re pretty squishy though. Guardians have a lot of survivability and damage mitigation. They are also walking boon factories. Mesmers are not as survivable, but they have access to stealth, like the others mentioned already :P.
Heya, Desolation is well populated, I would say. Also, if you want to play PvP, take necro or thief. Those classes are pretty good at the moment. Mesmer is a good choice too.
Don’t know much about WvW though :P.
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
No, we’re not. We’re just fabulous. But seriously, I think Mesmers are one of the better designed classes in terms of build diversity and also very fun to play. I don’t think we’re overpowered.
