If you are trying to create a Guild Wars account with the same e-mail address as an existing Guild Wars 2 account, you must also use the same password as that Guild Wars 2 account.
Hope this helps!

In the Lion’s Shadow Bed and Breakfast in Lion’s Arch, there is a room where people are dancing to some music. There are three tracks in total, two of which I really like, but I can’t seem to find any of them on ArenaNet’s SoundCloud.
Is there anywhere I can find the tracks? Are there more in the same style (or from the same artists) to be found? Thanks for the help!
Those players are trying to exploit a bug. If you are using a skill, and you stow your weapon just as it deals damage, you may be able to avoid the after-cast, and use the skill a few milliseconds faster than intended.
They are most likely using macros to do this. You can try reporting them for botting, or let exploits@arena.net know about them.
Toggle everything.
Underwear too.
For science.
Did you see the lord being under attack? With how ridiculous the elite specializations are, it’s very likely that the Lord died in 2 seconds total. It happens all the time, even in Battle of Champion’s Dusk.
Don’t worry, loyal players who have paid for the core game 3 years ago are now absolutely unable to compete even in Unranked Arena without the expansion.
You’d think they’d tone down the elite specializations already, but it seems they aren’t yet satisfied with their sales. I wonder why.
That would defeat the purpose of Mystic Salvage Kits.
I’m in the same spot. Locking elite specializations behind a paywall is yet another slap in the face of veterans.
But that’s the point. If the elite specializations weren’t blatantly stronger than the core classes, PvPers would have no reason to buy the expansion.
I agree. It’s embarrassing. There should be an option to tone down skill animations when there are a lot of characters on-screen.
The way they’re currently going about it makes no sense whatsoever. Are they truly on so much of a time crunch that they can no longer afford to make good decisions?
Hotjoins is not exactly something the community want the Devs to spend large amounts of time and resources on. I rather these resources go towards Leagues, bug fixes, balances. They’re taking enough time on these items as it is…
While that is true, what we are asking for requires no effort. Whether it is disabling spectators in official hot-join servers, or preventing players from joining the winning team, we’re talking about a 5 minute job. It’s a matter of changing a variable, or adding an if statement in the code. That’s it.
From experience, I can tell you that a lot of new and returning players are having one heck of a bad time in PvP, because they have no one to team up with, and they figure hot-join is the place for them to learn how to play. And honestly, I don’t blame them. It used to be. It should be.
I strongly believe elite specializations are intended to be better; they add to the classes without taking anything away from them. They are purely upgrades.
In the meantime, players who not own the expansion no longer have a chance to compete in PvP. ArenaNet knew that by not unlocking elite specializations for everyone in PvP, and by not segregating core players from expansion players, it would create an insane imbalance. It’s nothing more than a betraying incentive to pay for the expansion.
As it stands, players with elite specializations go around, one-shotting entire teams of core classes, and all they have to say is “L2P”. Yet, we all know that core classes can’t do the same to elite specializations.
Yes, yes, we’ve all heard this one before. “Hot-join is a place where people practice stuff, there’s no reason to prevent people from exploiting it and making it unplayable.”
Listen. Not everyone has a team of 5 players to queue in unranked arena, and we all know what happens when you solo queue; it’s not better than hot-join. People leave the match, go AFK, or sabotage their own team so that the match ends quicker. There’s nothing you can do to report them, and if you do and a miracle happens, the worst they’ll get is a 24-hour ban.
Unranked arena is supposed to have dishonor. That’s its “fix”. But hot-join has nothing. We need to at least have the teams locked, and prevent players from joining the winning team on the official servers.
There’s always custom arenas to practice. Because unless you’re trying to practice 1 vs 5, I don’t see the point of doing it in hot-join anyway.
It sure isn’t cheap right now, and having more ways to pay for it would be great.
Since an arena is owned by one player, but used by many, I think it would be best to have some kind of feature that allows a group to pay for upkeep collectively.
You know it’s good when people tell you to not play a part of the game.
No, hot-join isn’t for practice and dueling. That’s custom servers. Hot-join is an introduction to PvP, and the worst I’ve seen in any MMO to date. New players get absolutely slaughtered by zergs before they can even try to fight back. It NEEDS to prevent players from joining the winning team at the very least.
If both teams have 4 players and Red team has a 100 point advantage, do NOT let players join Red team. It’s one simple line of code, for Pete’s sake.
If a player doesn’t have a team of 5 (because they don’t have 4 other masochist friends), Unranked is not better. At all. It’s full of AFKers, leavers, and saboteurs. We’ve been waiting for the dishonor system to come back for, what, 2 years now? Without it, we have no way to prevent players from manipulating matches. We don’t even have so much as the option to report them.

There used to be a bug that allowed players to dye their underwear. That would be cool, too.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
How would newbies know how common it was to receive messages from players?
They wouldn’t, but because the ArenaNet communicates a lot via in-game mail (for story quests and other notifications), they may be lead to believe that all the messages they receive are exclusively from the Guild Wars 2 team at first.
As far as tactics in game goes, I’ve seen the whole zerging and you would—well I guess the O.P would believe how many single players try to fight the zerg. However, what I see are players who enjoy the aspect of Brawling versus playing the actually game mechanics themselves. I’ve seen a lot of this. Another reason I don’t understand why a PvP mode that has less fighting was added? (stronghold)
Having worked as a software dev, I’m pretty sure it went something along the lines of:
“Hey, I heard them MOBAs are popular these days. Kids just love to watch them on the YouTubes and the… Steams? Streams? Anyway, let’s make our game into a MOBA! We can do that, right? Good! You have two weeks!”
Obviously, the people making those decisions are not the people who actually play the game. Otherwise, things would probably get done (such as locking teams), but that’s just not how companies operate.
I’m curious.
In my experience, it’s so uncommon to receive mail from other players that whenever newbies gets an in-game mail from a phisher, they think it’s from ArenaNet, panic, and ignore the warning at the bottom.
Other than that, I’ve never heard of in-game mail being used for anything other than sending items/gold, and the occasional scam, which a trading system (like in the original Guild Wars) could easily replace.
Aside from phishers, does anyone use the in-game mail system to send messages to other players?
Meanwhile, in PvP land, thieves continue to sabotage their own teams by spamming area stealth on capture points.
I have an idea.
Instead of buffing the Lord, how about balancing those elite specializations instead?
If some Dragonhunter can slay the Lord in 5 seconds, he can do much worse to players. That’s the real problem.
And if the Lord gets buffed to the level of elite specializations, players will be required to buy the expansion just to stand a chance against him. That’s ridiculous.
The game is pay-to-win enough as it is. Let’s not suggest making it worse than it already is.
Why locked? i love match manipulations. i mean its challenging.
Oh, I don’t know.
Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conduct:22. While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match […]. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.
I agree that teams should be locked on official servers. Not only do players currently go in spectate to trigger auto-balance, but auto-balance volunteers also get a guaranteed victory, no matter the outcome. This encourages both teams to abuse the system, and makes the game absolutely unplayable.
To all of the people saying that new players should play Unranked Arena instead, think again. Arena can be intimidating to any player who has never tried PvP before, and if they don’t happen to have 4 other friends to team up with, chances are they’ll have a bad time. AFKers, leavers and saboteurs are what you get in Unranked Arena. It’s not better.
Before PvP rewards got removed and replaced with PvE loot, players used to PvP for fun, rather than to win. Now, times have changed, and players farm PvP reward tracks as an easy alternative to straight-out botting.
Something needs to be done to fix PvP. But when you look at most people in this thread, it’s no wonder why nothing gets done. Hot-join isn’t just about “testing builds” and “practicing”. There are custom servers for that. Besides, it’s not like you can practice squat if you’re getting 1 vs 5’ed all the time.
As it stands, there’s nowhere for new players to go, and their first PvP is most likely to be so atrocious, they’ll never come back. Honestly, would you?
If you want to try out PvP, you need a team of friends. Otherwise, you will have AFKers, leavers and saboteurs on your team. It’s inevitable.
If you can manage that, then try Unranked Arena, and see how you like it.
Good luck.
Reason? There is no reason.
No reason to play the second weakest class, if you’re not looking for a challenge.
No reason to play PvP content, if you didn’t pay to win.
No reason to join a match at all, if you don’t enjoy it.
No reason to play the game at all, if you’re just doing it for intangible rewards.
No reason to not go do something you enjoy, instead.
A long time ago, PvP used to be a lot more fun.
We used to play PvP because it was fun. We would customize our characters with PvP items we’d get, and some skins would be exclusive to PvP ranks, which gave us something to look forward to. There was no reason whatsoever for anyone who doesn’t like PvP to enter a match.
Nowadays, all rewards have been replaced with useless PvE loot. Ranks serve no purpose whatsoever, and most players are PvEers who just want an easy place to AFK and get free loot.
Hotjoin suffers from such appalling game design that you can’t even test a PvP build there. Players abuse of the spectate-autobalance-win exploit so much that all you ever see are matches that end in a 2 vs 5, 10 to 500.
Arena is unplayable without a premade team of five. Leavers and AFKers are ruining the fun for everyone, often sabotaging their own team to end the match faster so that they can get more PvE loot.
Once in a while, I’ll fight against an opponent who isn’t abusing of the game’s most unbalanced skills. I’ll fight against someone who’s trying to have some fun, and we’ll have a good fight. And in the end, we’ll have fun, and we’ll both be victorious.
But 5 minutes every few months isn’t anywhere near the amazing experience this game used to offer. Now, it’s no longer about the fun. It’s all about the rewards, and none a PvPer would ever care about.
If elite specializations weren’t objectively better than core specializations, then they wouldn’t be elite. They need to be segregated.
If you can only play with other players who don’t own the expansion, then how can it be pay to win?
How is it pay to win if you can’t use those new specs against players without the expansion? Even IF every elite was strictly better than base, you don’t/can’t fight against people without the expansion. Ergo, it cannot be P2W.
I repeat: You CANNOT choose to join matches with OTHER players who DO NOT own the expansion.
I do not mean that players with the expansion cannot join matches with players without. I mean that players without cannot join matches exclusively with other players without.
In other words: I do not own the expansion, and although I have paid for the core game 3 years ago, I can no longer compete in PvP because the elite specializations are far superior.
A Berserker is far superior to a Warrior.
A Reaper is far superior to a Necromancer.
A Scapper is far superior to an Engineer.
The list goes on.
Everyone I know who do not own the expansion no longer stand a chance in PvP, because we are being put against players who do own the expansion, no matter what.
Therefore, if you want to keep PvPing, you are required to purchase the expansion, because it is an upgrade. That is why they are called elite specializations. It is purely monetized vertical progression. You pay so that you can win.
(edited by Rangelost.4857)
So it’s possible to use the elite specs in pvp without purchasing the expansion ? I’m asking, because I have gw2 uninstalled.
No, it is not possible to use elite specializations in PvP if you do not own Heart of Thorns.
Yes, elite specializations are far superior to normal professions, and have no drawbacks whatsoever.
No, you cannot choose to join matches with other players who do not own the expansion.
Yes, this does mean Guild Wars 2 is now technically Pay-to-Win.
This is indeed a synchronization bug.
It happens because when a player is downed, the server sends a packet to all the clients, letting them know that the player has reached 0 health and is now downed. If this packet arrives late (due to latency), the character might have had time to move some more before appearing downed, and so, its position can be offset.
The player’s position is normally updated when the player moves, and because players generally do not move when downed, it never gets updated until they are either revived, or defeated completely.
This also prevents other players from reviving, or finishing off the downed player, since the prompt only appears on the screen when close to the client-side position, but doesn’t activate because it does not correspond to the server-side (actual) position.
This is an exploitable issue, often abused by rangers who can very efficiently revive themselves with the use of Lick Wounds.
To fix this bug, ArenaNet needs to include the player’s current position in the health update packet if the health is 0. It might cause the character to teleport a little, but at least it will be properly interactive when downed.
I’m still waiting for either the removal of megaservers, or the addition of an option to join the map copy of non-party members (friends or guildmates). It’s been over a year, and megaservers are still the same disaster that has destroyed and is preventing any sense of community in-game.
Thanks, megaservers!

I have a question. Are dailies working as intended?
To get the 10 daily achievement points, players have to complete 3 objectives, which can be in PvE, PvP or WvW. Apparently, PvP is by far the easiest, and the fastest.
Why? Because players exploit the hell out of this game.
Players join Practice Mode, and when their team is losing, they go in spectate mode to trigger auto-balance, then join the winning team as soon as someone gets switched. This way, they’re guaranteed to have their winning daily, and now that they’re in the outnumbering team, they get all the free kills, free rewards, and boom, daily done.
But it gets better. “Daily servers” are getting more and more popular. Players go there to literally let each other get the daily objectives. There is no absolutely no PvP involved. They just let themselves get killed three times, then kill the other AFK player three times. They let one team win, then let the other team win the next match. What did the Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conduct say again?
While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match […].
Oh. So, could ArenaNet please start taking action to make PvP a better place for players who actually want to PvP?
If you’re not having fun, then no, there is absolutely no reason to play whatsoever.
Nearly every single day, I see players using a bot (or more specifically, macros) to automatically play music in-game, and begging for tips. These players are literally AFK and being showered in gold for letting their computer play in their stead. Upon being confronted, they all say the exact same thing: “ArenaNet said it was ok.”
So I’m asking ArenaNet. Can we please stop encouraging botting? There is absolutely no difference in method between playing music automatically, and completing map exploration automatically. Or, a more commonly seen example, farming PvP rewards automatically.
So I’m asking again, can we, once and for all, prevent players from using ALL third party programs that control the game in the player’s stead?
It probably wouldn’t look the way you’d expect it to look. If weapons were visible:
- Most of them would be seen floating in midair in front of the camera. Awkward.
- Others would hardly be seen at all because of the fighting stance.
- Shields would block the view entirely for some characters, in case you haven’t noticed the amount of complaints about aegis.
- During certain animations, weapons would clip through the camera.
- During rolls, flips and other translation-based and rotation-based animations, the weapon would appear to just fly all over the place with no rhyme or reason.
In other words, it sounds good in paper, but it would look positively awful in the game.
“Living” not only refers to change, but also to life. The world isn’t as “alive” if all that’s left is dead remains. I am all for sprucing up the place. I tend to avoid the ugly areas just because they’re, well… ugly. Especially if they were once dear to me. I don’t like seeing my favorite places lying in rubble. So the more they tear things up and not repair them, the smaller my world becomes.
Maybe they should rename it to “Dying World”!
I can’t speak for the designers. From the way I see it, there’s no point in using an alternative outfit designed specifically to cover the breasts on a character that has no breasts to cover.
I’d say it’s safe to assume most of the culture-based outfits (Ancestral, Fancy Winter and so on) are designed one way for all males and one way for all females, because if a character is going to wear that, they’ll want to fit in with the original culture of the festivities.
I’d still prefer if everyone had the choice to wear either version, though. If asura females get to wear dresses, I don’t see why male norns wouldn’t.
It’s simply not possible.
First, they’d have to render the character without a head. This would render a headless shadow on the ground. Creepy!
Second, a lot of animations would be impossible to follow with the camera. Spins and rolls, for example, would make anyone sick to the stomach within a few seconds.
Third, you can’t lock the camera on the character model. Well, you could, but just watch the insane amount of bobbing a character’s head does while running, or how much it rotates when standing still. That’s constant extreme camera shaking that would cause extreme motion sickness.
It sounds cool, but it would be awful. That’s why games make different models and animations for third person and first person. Well, except for Tribes 2, but the character animations were all designed with that in mind from the start.
The issue is not that they are child-like. It’s that they are not human-like. They don’t have large bags of fat on their chest, so they don’t wear clothes and armor designed to cup said large bags of fat on the chest for the same reason males don’t.
Yes. This bug is affecting everyone I know of.
While I’d love to see the beta loading screens return (they even had a loading bar), I’m fairly certain that’s just yet another bug introduced by the March 16 patch.
All tiers: most players are so gullible they actually believe in a “meta”, and when they end up falling for it, they get absolutely destroyed by anyone who is using a custom build.
Don’t be a fool. If you’ve so much as seen this game’s publicized competitive scene, then you already know better than to try and play like that. It’s just embarrassing.
Don’t wait for the devs. Just get a team.
While there are a million ways ArenaNet could improve the PvP system, as of right now, they obviously have no intention to do so. Therefore, we’re stuck with a majority of players who only care about the rewards at the end of a match. This causes an extremely high amount of sabotage in matches where teammates don’t know each other. There’s no other way around it, you need a party of 5 before you enter the queue.
- Increase your inventory’s capacity with 15 Slot Bags. They’re cheap, usually going for less than 2 gold each on the trading post.
- Always carry a Mystic Salvage Kit in your inventory.
- After salvaging items you don’t need, use the Deposit All Materials option to clear up some space.
- Sell high-value items on the Trading Post from anywhere.
- Sell miscellaneous junk whenever you pass by a merchant. They’re everywhere.
I’ve been playing for nearly 3 years, and not once have I ever had issues with bag or bank space.
A “holy trinity” doesn’t give you more gameplay variation. You can already choose to build your character to take a lot of hits and pick up other players off the ground, or to heal your party for thousands of hit points per second.
All it actually does is allow players to blame other players when they make mistakes. Tank died? Healer’s fault. Healer died? Tank’s fault. Damage dealer died? Everyone else’s fault.
Plus, restricting players to a specific role in a group makes finding a group insanely tedious. And when someone leaves, it prevents the entire group from progressing any further.
Final verdict, your “holy trinity” is an outdated, awful idea that makes Guild Wars 2 a much better game for having revolutionized it.
It depends what you’re going for. Either race can look intimidating — or not —, depending on the character’s look and armor. For example, a norn with a pink mustache and a Cook’s Outfit won’t look nearly as intimidating as a norn with a scarred face, unkempt hair, a long beard and some dark, full plate armor, even if both are equally as tall and muscular.
You’re not alone. As a PvPer, I haven’t seen any reason to purchase the expansion yet. And that’s fine. Much better, in fact, than every other MMORPG where you are left behind by everyone else if you don’t buy the newest expansion.
The NPE feels like it was slapped on at the last second. Aside from megaservers, I’ve never seen a feature this buggy in my life.
Furthermore, it’s so unintuitive that players keep posting in the Bugs subforum thinking something in the game is broken, only to find out it was actually locked by the NPE (as it says “This feature is temporarily disabled” instead of something actually useful like “This feature will be unlocked at Level 10”).
I don’t understand why ArenaNet is so bent on putting the game on sale, yet doesn’t fix any of the broken features and other bugs. All I’ve noticed as a veteran is a new wave of gold sellers and hackers each time.
Just keep in mind that using the Immersive Combat Mode addon will most likely result in the termination of your account.
