Limited-use Finishers - destroying issue.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Razzy.2741

Hello,

can you please remove the item name confirmation dialog box when you want to destroy one of the limited-use finishers? It’s not like they are so priceless that you need to make it idiot-proof, and while we are on it, I find it not very intelligent solution to write name of the finisher I don’t want – because I bought the permanent version for your gems ages ago. I can’t even use the limited-use version, the only thing I can do with it, is destroy, but it forces me to type all this case sensitive stuff. Drives me nuts, I’m sure many players feel the same way.

Thank you, to whoever will ever bother to solve this issue.

Hello, Moooshu here.

I’ve been on EU servers since the release, playing mostly dungeons/fractals and pvp.

I play on guardian only.

Now to the point. I am looking for a good Dungeon/Raids guild (not really speed clearing level though), would be cool if those guys would do some pvp as well. My ambitions aren’t as high as running every dungeon path below 3 minutes, but I love smooth runs where every guy in the party puts 100% effort and utilizes his/her profession as much as possible. Mistakes and beginners happen, but the average efficiency counts.

I would have some requirements, that’s why the post here.

- No application forms. Seriously guys, I’m not looking for a job. We can play together and see whether we are like-minded or not.
- No representing requirement. Before you go “pffft” and stop reading, lemme make it clear. If I like a guild, I will represent it 24/7. But it’s rather uncommon for me to find a guild that will do all aspects of the game at the same time as I do, and with right company. We are allowed to have 4 guilds here, and I think there might be reason for that.
- Average age/“maturity” and such don’t bother me much, but arrogant kids aren’t my cup of tea. I prefer adults with right sense of humor and occasional fun talks.
- I’m not a bullkittenter, don’t like to talk much, but if it’s necessary I can join on TS for some teamwork required content.
- My charr looks so awesome, that my looks alone will make your guild popular, thus I’m willing to take any bribe you could offer for my trial in your guild.

That would be it. I’m a rather patient and nice guy, don’t think I will drag any guild down.

Lemme know in game if I seem like a right person for your guild. I’m sure you will know how to get in touch.

EDIT: Ow yeah, guess I bragged too much. I’m not really a speed clearer, and when I tried with a guild that does it, it’s certainly not my level of experience. Thanks ninth for the trial tho, was an eye opener.

Cheers,
Razzy

i dont like that this “patch” will be payed, its money-makeing on players.

Talks about “one time pay” is history.

Shame on you.

What be next, new profession avaiable only for paying players? Or farming zone? Maybe paying players could switch between 3 weapons, hm?

Guess i will have to look for another game.

Some people go to such length of absurdity, that I even go through all the trouble to login and post a reply. You should get an ingame title for that alone dude.

How can people so arrogant that you expect to get everything free? You go to a pub, you pay for your beer and pizza. You go to a doctor, and you pay for 15 minutes visit a reasonable amount of money. You play a game, and you probably gonna have hundreds, if not thousands of hours of fun in it. And you say that 50€ is too much for it? You spend at least as much when you go out to pub with friends twice, and all you get for it is kittenload of calories, hangover and some suspicious memories which are same as any other, just with different label with the date.

The core game is one time pay – and you got to play it for over two years, with all the Living Story (which I personally find worthless effort) for free. The expansions will not change it, you can still play Guild Wars 2, the core game. Any new campaign and expansion is expected to be b2p, as it used to be the original Guild Wars.

Of course players who will have expansion will have access to new stuff – and that’s the point. People who played few thousands hours in this game, they are bored of everything there is, so they can’t wait for expansion to bring some new content, new stuff. You really expect it free? No idea what kind of jerk and leecher you must be in real life.

Go ahead and look for another game, just don’t post any nonsense here anymore, cos it makes normal people sick. Your egoistic approach is sad to watch, and I see you like to repeat your stubborn views often. I tried many other games ever since GW2 was released, and most of them turn pale and boring.

I’m writing it from a perspective of an average earning guy, in a country that has very low average income comparing to many others economically successful countries, but even I will be happy to pay 50€ for new stuff in this game, cos I honestly think it’s needed, and I don’t mind supporting developers once in a while. Yes, I will save the money in advance, but I’m sure I will not regret a single coin. Especially since I pay for quality stuff.

Whatever you do in your life, I sincerely wish you were treated by your customers in exact way as you display over here.

Just make skill #5 a blast finisher instead of a Light field.

People are so eager to make it overpowered. Aegis, wards, full HP restore symbol – yeah right.

You can already make protection last quite long with #4 on shield, traited virtue of courage and shouts, it’s good as it is now.

Hey there,

we are looking for one more player to fill our team for tournaments.
So far we got:
Guardian – mid
Ele/Warrior – roamer
Engi/Necro – roamer/close point holder
Thief – Roamer

We are looking for a close point defender, or a roamer. With current meta, a spirit ranger seems to be the most suitable for the job, but we don’t stress over playing exactly how every other team does, so if you know your profession well and you know you can do the job, you are welcome.

We aren’t bothered about ranks (I’m r27, altho a Champion Paragon since r20, cos I never really played hot joins, just the tournaments), as our teammates are within ranks 27-42, but we would like the last player to have the tournament experience. Preferably Champion title on your main profession.

Additional info:

  • We want to be competetive, but we also want to have fun. Which means, I don’t need a nother Hi-Ego di*k in the party who will be blaming everyone else for every lost game. We are nice and good players, and we want to keep it this way.
  • We usually use Team Speak for the PVP games, and English isn’t our native language, so it would be nice if you don’t mind listening to all the european accents there are ^^
  • We got our jobs and other stuff to do, so we usually play PVP at the evenings, between 20:00 – 23:00 CEST, so it would be good if this time window suits you well. Up untill now we didn’t play regulary, and since our 5th player went to play pro we dropped the games, but if we get a full team again, we will try to play 4-5 days a week at least.
  • As a side bonus, we started as a PVE guild, we are pretty kitten good a running dungeons, so in case you would like to do some PVE with us as well, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Healing Builds

Razzy.2741

guys, be gentle

It’s really weird for me when I see berserk guardians. If I want to do it berserk way, I play my warrior. If I want to play guardian, I like to dedicate myself to be best supporter you can get, even though my damage is crap.

It’s not so weird if you think about it this way. When you wear berserker armor your support skills and traits are still there. You can still use them, but your damage goes up a lot more from gear.

I will share my point of view when I tried to play a babysitter healer ele:
I have amazing burst heals, I can get everyone from near death to full health if with my water magic. But… with a good group that knows how to dodge and how boss mechanics work, I rarely need to use him. So all that healing = useless. But if I get a group that takes damage often, I use them frequently so that’s good right? No, when I’m healing people I deal almost 0 damage. And those people in low health starting running around like headless chickens so they don’t do damage either. The fight drags on, people keep taking unnecessary damage and die. In other words, if a group constantly needs healing, heals won’t save them. Killing things faster for them, on the other hand, can end those encounters faster or allow them to rally.

That’s where I use my berserk warrior. Not berserk guardian. but if the group deals decent damage, and there already are berserk warriors, who just aren’t too familiar with dodging yet, then I prefer healing guardian to fix their mistakes.

Anyhow, matter of preference. You guys can stick to your berserk way and it’s all fine. My point is, that healing is possible and works, doesn’t mean you all have to play with healing guardians. Stick to your berserk groups, and no need to try converting everyone around to your preferences.

@Neko
Don’t know what to say. Maybe if you were familiar with Empower skill, regen scaling with healing power and 50% longer boon duration, dodge roll heals and few other little things, it could be more clear what kind of support was done in there. But yeah, I was probably carried by warriors doing nothing and waving my staff around

As i stated in my first post, and I believe the trolls missed it, the players who know what they are doing and know all the dungeons can stick to berserk gear and rush through them like that. But it’s not always the case, and many people enjoy dungeons in more relaxed atmosphere, without the need for everyone to be familiar with content. Support guardian can carry beginners and normal players giving them big margin for mistakes, and that’s what this build is for.

Hello there Gnat,

I’ve been playing support Guardian build ever since release, tunning it slighty over the months, until the point I felt like it works everywhere. People say you can’t be dedicated healer in dungeons, but it’s not true. You can, and you can do it very well.

Of course those who say that full berserk sets work even better might be correct, but not every group is full of pro players who know all the mechanics in the game, and know what to dodge. And in these groups, a healing Guardian can be very handy.

I usually run with 4 berserk warriors though, so they make up for all the damage I’m lacking, while I maintain their health, boons and Might on desirable level, as well as can add 10s of Quickness on bosses. Most of the time warriors don’t even need to dodge anything, cos they get stability, aegis, protection and regen, as well as direct heals at right moment.

Here is link to the build I run:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNApeWlUgiCnFyKEg4ERWBRi9AjZsjXPS4DZIA-jwCBoNBCvBkYAgaAi+AMNqIas1uht6KalXBRNjIqWZDDA-e

0 0 30 30 10,
50% boon duration without cons,
shouts removing conditions,
up to 1800 healing power with Mace and Sigil of life,
Endless energy regen with the sigils of Energy+Stamina and vigor (fury from warriors helps with vigor)

Depending on encounter, one or two shouts are switched with consecrations like Hallowed Ground, Wall of Reflection, Sanctuary and in some particular dungeons/fractals Spirit Shield.

I played a lot in GW1 as Imbagon, and that’s exactly what I wanted to achieve in GW2. I think I succeeded, even though most players want to leave when they see a guardian with staff and mace, after one run with me they end up asking about my build. So I don’t think it’s that bad really, it’s just against the belief of “healing power scales bad” and “you can’t heal lol” and “play berserk, kk?”.

I’m trying to prepare extensive guide with videos on the gameplay with this build, so far got only two videos, TAkittenpath and CoE p2. You can check them here:

CoE:

Hello there everyone,

Dungeon Riders could use a few new recruits, thus I’m opening the door to our infamous bar.

In short, cos nobody sane would read long posts – we are mature guild with very nice, friendly and talented members (except for Phax, he is one grumpy charr. And he bites. And he stole my cookies!). We do mostly dungeons, although a few of us got into PvP and every now and then we check what’s going on in WvW. We have both, very experienced dungeon runners as well as beginners who want to learn, we don’t mind people without the skill, we can show you how to do things right. Elitism is not accepted in our guild, malicious behaviour and arrogant attitude is not welcome either.

Our members are usually 20-30 years old, both guys and girls, but we could use a few more female players ^^ So, if you are a fun girl who knows how to dodge everything (pervy talks mostly, you know how it is in bars), you are more than welcome!

On a serious note, there is only one way to find out how it is with us, and in rare case you dislike our company, you are free to go without any harm.

Most of us are on Desolation server, but it shouldn’t matter much, as long as you are european.

You can check our site, if you are interested in artistic designs: BEER.

If you are interested, you can reply in here, or catch me in game.

TA F/U spiders change?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

I’ve never, ever been able to convince a PUG to melee the tree, not even the easy as kitten turret or oakheart versions.

Going melee with a wrong team will cause a miserable fail, I’m afraid.
I usually run all 3 TA paths with 4 berserk warriors + 1 guard, and we melee everything, all final bosses take around 1 minute or less to kill with this setup.

The other day I had 3 Thieves (one was underleveled, and condition damage I guess) and a warrior + my guard, and we ran our of projectile protection while boss had still 20% HP left, and then we were flooded with spiders. So if you lack the DPS, melee is risky. Can’t be bothered to do it ranged, so long and annoying.

Do you even realize what you are saying ? You “ran out of projectile protection” in a group that CAN’T run out of projectile protection. With all three thieves picking up smoke screen, and the guard picking up shield of the avenger and wall of reflection, it’s literally impossible to run out of it. Cast each smoke screen once the previous one is 2 seconds from going down, then guard wall, then shield, and you can repeat this cycle for eternity.

You also lacked dps in a group that shouldn’t have lacked dps. I deliberately fooled around in my video to prove a point (I even joined this TA run solely for the sake of parading against all this “the boss became impossible!” nonsense.), was moving in and out of reflection (there is no need to move around that much in there, just stack inside the wall and stuff. For anyone wearing scholar rune losing HP means losing deeeeeeps.) and was running a war build that requires a specific guard build to accompany it to be efficient (no gs! less might stacking.) with a guard who didn’t run it yet. We had almost no might stacking going on and I wasn’t using GS to stack might on myself either, and I wasted a utility slot on banner of discipline rather than taking a much more useful utility like signet of might because you can’t crit damage on that boss so anything could be better than banner of discipline for the purpose of THAT fight. I actually cast a 100% useless banner here.
Thieves have inherently better single target dps than warriors, what makes them worse and less interesting to stack in a group is that they don’t bring perma fury (which is USELESS against a boss that won’t take crit!) and need combo fields for might stack. If a 2 warrior, 1 ele, 1 guard, 1 mes group can destroy that boss in 40 seconds with sub-optimal play how in the hell can 3 thieves, 1 guard, 1 war fail this? whatever disadvantages thieves might have for speedclearing (no perma fury for the group, lesser access to offensive boons, bad cleaving damage since it only has sword and it’s meh) are completely negated against this particular boss where you : have no use for fury, no use for cleaving, no use for anything but single target dps and it’s a boss that doesn’t even need full might stacks to bring down in under 40 sec.

Basically, trololololooooooo.

Very pro comment of you, much appreciated. Now I’m like all blushing and feeling like bowing down to you. Really.

Now to go back to my first line, “Going melee with a wrong team will cause a miserable fail, I’m afraid”, where wrong team also applies to players who aren’t familiar with the final boss/dungeon at all. There is a little bit of a difference between regular speed clear group and a random group put together consisting of three random Thieves.

Oh, and I’m yet to see a thief, that can outdps Warrior. I hear the legends all the time, and honestly, I get bored with that junk talk. Never ever seen a single Thief in dungeon that would be even a tiny bit more useful than a Warrior.

Guardian Shield

in Guardian

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

If you happen to play in dungeons a lot, and you focus on support, you might want to try this interesting combo:

Mace skill 3, when you don’t get hit, you grant protection to yourself and allies nearby. Do it before aggroing foes. When the skill grants protection, use shield skill 4, “Hold the line!” shout and if you have at least 5 points in virtues (and you should), use the Virtue of Courage as well. That’s 20s of protection.

I have runes that increase the boon duration by 40%, and often have the food which gives another 20%, so I end up giving allies 25s of protection right before the battle starts.

If there is another guardian on your team, he can double the time.
If there is a mesmer, he can use Signet of inspiration, to double the doubled time.

2 Guardians and 1 mesmer can spread 1,5 minute of protection to whole party before the match even begins. And shield is quite important for this particular reason. Keep in mind, that you can keep stacking protection with shield, mace and shout as your party keeps fighting, assuming there is any fight that lasts longer than 1,5 minute.

The shield skill 5 is situational, but can help a lot to your team. If there are boss fights, you can bump the boss into the wall, so the warriors will have easier job on killing them. Guardian with shield can do the same pulls as mesmer does in CoF p1 speed runs, using the bump correctly. Additionaly, this skill heals for quite a lot, and works as projectile protection. In Fractals it’s quite important skill.

Razzy.2741

Hi, I would also add alternative and definitely best way to approach all 3 variation of the Nightmare Tree in Twilight Arbor. All going melee.
I am not sure if it counts to be in the guide, as it requires professions with reflective skills, preferably guardians.

I usually play in team of 2 healing guardians, 2 full berserk warriors + 1 anything else, as it works best for my group, but I’m sure other professions can do okay too.

Fwd/Fwd:
Everyone runs to the Nightmare Tree after it hammers the ground and melee it till it dies.
Guardians provide perma AoE stability: “Stand your ground!”, Hallowed ground.
Heals and Might with Staff Empower, regen and protection with Mace/shield and “Hold the line!”.
Ignore all the extra spawns, if everyone does the job – the boss dies before you run out of stability. Doable with 1 Guardian too.

Fwd/Up:
Kill 3 spiders in front of the Tree, when the boss is active everyone runs to the Nightmare Tree and melee it till it dies.
Guardians use: Shield of avenger, Sancturary, Wall of Reflection to keep whole party safe. Empower with Staff. Boss should be dead before you run out of reflective skills. Spiders won’t do any damage to you while you are inside the “bubble”.
Prefered two guardians to chain their SoA’s. With high DPS, one should be enough.

Up:
When the boss is active, everyone runs and you can melee it till it dies. Whole party dodges red circles when AoE attack happens.
Guardians use: Shield of avenger, Sancturary, Wall of Reflection to keep whole party safe. Boss should be dead before you run out of reflective skills.
Prefered two guardians to chain their SoA’s. With high DPS, one should be enough.

In all 3 boss variations, it dies 3-4x faster than using any other tactics I’ve seen, Much more fun to pull it this way, too.

Question about dungeon mobs

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

(…)but I hate seeing staff guards that use the staff for more than swiftness or killing volitile blossoms.

That’s funny, because a good staff guardian can keep Warriors in combat, empower them and give them no single reason to get out of combat and swap to crap ranged weapons, allowing them to maintain the highest DPS possible.

To combat mobs individually: Now it depends on your class but snares are helpful, as are reflecting projectiles and blinds. For melee mobs if you cannot attack their back and if you don’t feel safe face tanking, kite them around with a ranged weapon and time your dodges.

Also make sure not to run backwards as it is slower than side stepping or running forward.

I also always use one range and one melee on war incase I get low on health.

I thought I would put my finger on the funny words, which can make a guardian laugh quite much.

Razzy.2741

Not sure what’s the point of this thread. When I was choosing my character, I had a mindset “I want to benefit to my team the most, and be as supportive as one can be”. From all the professions to choose, Guardian seemed to be the obvious choice to fill the role well – and guess what, Guardian works as intended. I would never think that a Thief could benefit the team as well as Guardian, Thieves seemed to me to be obvious choice for egoistic gameplay like PvP or WvW. And I guess that’s the way they fill their role best.

Thief is pretty much single target DPS class, which has many uses in many situations, if played properly. You want now Thief to be able to mathc Guardian at support AND also kitten in DPS? Something is wrong here.

To level up in fractal, you need to do 3 fractals in a row if it’s an odd level number (1,3,5,7,9,11 etc) and there are 4 fractals to do for even numbers (2,4,6,8,10 etc). Each even Fractal number has an additonal boss stage with hentai boss.

Or in other words, once you start doing fractals from the lobby, you keep doing them until you get back to lobby again – this is what it means to complete a full fractal level.

If you do Fractals of higher level than your own, there is no way you wouldn’t progress.

Hi there,
since you are a guardian, you have a pretty big chance to be a huge benefit to your team. Make sure you will get familiar with all your utilities AND all weapon skills. I am using mostly shouts, but if there are certain mechanics requiring stability or anti projectile support, then I’m using some consecrations and the Shield of Avenger. These utilities can not only keep others alive, but increase their DPS, since they won’t have to worry about dodging and there won’t be any need for running.

Not sure what gear you are using, probbaly some sort of knight set, considering you played WvW a lot. I’m not saying that Knight gear is bad, but I keep using full healing set (Magi gear, Cleric trinkets, Magi weapons and boon duration runes). It allows me to spread amazing amount of heals to all party members, and increases the boons upkeep time quite much. It benefits in many ways to the team you are in, even if others don’t even notice. If it’s a good team, then you will have some berserkers – with your healing, they can stand still and go full DPS. If it’ a team made of newcomers, your heals will simply help everyone to stay alive longer, this is why Guardian offers wide range of support in dungeons.

If you are dedicated to learn about dungeons and run them daily, you could do some research on the mechanics which you will find troublesome. I suggest to go there on your won first and try to figure things out without any help, it brings some satisfaction if you learn a trick or two without some pr0 runners telling you what to do. As for the research, Wiki might help, as well as some youtube videos and other resources you can find here and there. Beginners usually have problems with explorable modes. Kholer in AC, ranged trash in CM, Wurms in TA, Dredge patrols in SM, few big packs of silver mobs in CoF, Subject Alpha in CoE, underwater mobs and bosses in hoTW and entire Arah. Funny thing, Guardian offers many ways to mitigate the damage from nasty mechanics in each dungeon, so you should handle thigns well.

It’s also a good thing to accept the fact, that the “trash” in the dungeons is made of silver mobs, and they aren’t as easy to kill as it’s in regular PvE. Some silver mobs can kill you within seconds with their leaps, knock downs and burst dmg, so whenever you face some group, be prepared for some heavy damage coming. That’s where all your healing, light fields and boon spreading shouts come in handy. 12 stacks of might for party members are quite decent way to support, too.

Anyway, it all requires practise. It’s good to find a group of people you can run the dungeons with, so you will learn together and learn synergy between your builds which will make your teamwork stronger and it should make it easier to get trhough some painful dungeons. Pick up groups tend to be full of either morons, or people who tend to be so fast and pro, that they left behind all the manners at their newbie stage.

Good luck.

Inexp players and ressing in dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

The answer is the same, as it would be before this patch.
Everyone will prefer an experienced player over an inexperienced one. That’s how humankind generally works, it’s not only games and dungeons. So it shouldn’t be surprising answer. Our attitude toward the newcomer solely depends on our own manners and the attitude displayed by the beginner.

Regarding the new players, I do take newcomers and I already spent uncountable many hours, wrote zillion shorter and logner guides on the mechanics in every single dungeon. At some point it can get tiring. The game has been released around half year ago, on the begining it could be hard to find any guides, thus many players had to learn the mechanics harsh way. These days, however, you can find all the tutorials, hints and tips, even videos on youtube. The dungeons have been nerfed quite much, so they are much easier too.

So, if a player has a serious troubles in dungeons, should he expect other players to carry him, or should he do a little bit of research and learn everything he needs to be able to pull his weight in the dungeon?

Waypoints have nothing to do with the issue.

On a side note, I still take new players and still keep explaining all the details, if needed. However, if a newbie is really bad and doesn’t pick the pace fast enough (and I am not really the “gogogog pr0 spd clers plox” type), I will bid him farewell after 1 path in the dungeon. If the beginner is a nice person and has no troubles to adapt to new envionment, I don’t mind giving him a ride to all the dungeon paths.

Will healing ascended be added to fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

I also need Healing Power ascended equipment as primary stat. I see no reason to leave this one out of every other stat combination. And if people claim it’s useless stat (makes me laugh every time I read such nonsense), then that’s even more the reason to put it on – at least nobody will cry to take it down, as it’s not “overpowered”. If there is magic find stat, the most useless thing in the entire game, on almost every ascended gear, why there is no decent Healing Power equipment?

It seriously disturbs me a lot, that I still prefer using exotics over ascended gear due to lack of adequate Healing Power amount on the ascended rings/amulet and NO healing back piece.

Group is skipping mobs and you die...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

Yeah, you are right about it.
At least in my case – as a guardian I can assure other party members safety during skipping, if they follow me and my instructions (I always try to explain how skipping works, if I get some inexperienced people in my party). If someone lagged behind and my shouts didn’t affect him, then I usually offer a taxi run again to lead him through the hairy parts. However, it’s enough if someone will show a bad or arrogant attitude, and I will refuse to help at anything, especially skipping. I won’t even bother to res someone who dies a lot while he pretends to be a 1337 uber pro.

Being honest and modest is a key to civil treatment, be it game or RL – makes no difference to me.

Why CritDmg scales so badly in low dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Razzy.2741

Razzy.2741

Probably because at level 35 you can’t get too much of Critical Damage equipment, as all you can get has 1-2% Damage increase at most.

And yeah, I noticed it as well, and I didn’t like it much either, but as a warrior you shouldn’t complain about your damage in AC while running full berserk set.

My bad, some grammar issue. I meant, they make foes melt within seconds. They are doing more than ok on their own.
Full healer just takes away all the worries about getting downed and the pressure about timing your dodges/blocks/heals right and stay in fight for the entire time. Experiencing the facts, most of the people don’t know/remember all the mechanics in the dungeons, I find my role very helpful with the settings I’m using, and that’s also a personal preference.

On a humouristic side, I love the “pros” telling some excuses if they fail to dodge lethal damage: “Lol, I was texting gf”, “I was eatin’ pizza. Hard to do all it with 1 hand lol”, “lag”, “wtf lol?! I’m tired”, “y they agro always ononly on me?!”.
Again, healing guardian takes away this kind of junk talk too, and I’m happy about this as well, cuz I couldn’t stand poor manners of those who can’t admit failures. Personal preference.

Regen duration and effectivity depends on the caster, as any other boon. Not on the receiver. The receiver passively takes the boon casted by the boon giver. The stronger healing power on caster, the better. I tested it with guildies, and it seems it’s the way it works. If I am wrong, I’m sincerely sorry for my mistake, but I’d like a proof.

Empower heals all party members on the 4th tick. Weird you didn’t know about it.
The amount of heals I spread for all party members is usually 2x more effective than their own self-heal skills. If it’s “still bad amount” in your opinion, well, I guess we will never agree.

My mace and focus have both sigils: recharge 50% of endurance on weapon swap and recharge to ful endurance on a kill. I have 20-25% crit chance, which gives me more than enough chance to gain 5s long vigor boon given from trait. Which altogether, makes me able to dodge roll around 4 times during every 10 seconds. Given I heal 1,5k per dodge roll, it’s 6k for me and everyone around, sir. Per 10 seconds, excluding all other heals I can spread. If it’s still bad – you make me really curious, what you consider a good healing.

My damage is indeed the worst there can be, but then again – I do deal some damage, and I can tank foes very well – which makes my full berserk companions melt the foes within seconds without worrying about their own health and safety. They don’t need to dodge roll and interrupt their bursts because of worries to get downed any second. Moreover, 15 stacks of Might I grant (12 stacks from staff, with 70% boon duration and 2h mastery allowing me to chain it pretty well + traited virtue of justice) do increase the overall damage of everyone around me.

But well – I’m done with arguing. As I stated somewhere else, it’s all about personal preference and group setting. I just don’t agree with people saying the Healing Power scales badly. It doesn’t, it’s just underrated.

Regen boon: Without any healing power it gives 130 Health per second at level 80. With 1350 Healing Power it gives ~300 health per second. I see huge difference, especially if you make the boon last 11 seconds with single shout, and you can maintain it almost permanently with all other abilities.

Regen can be spread to party members through shouts, symbol from mace, skill #4 on focus, traited virtue of resolve, and if you trait your shouts to turn conditions into boons, it often turns poison into regen as well.

Staff skills: Flash of Light & Empower. With 1350 Healing Power they heal accordingly for 1k and almost 3k at level 80. With 2h Mastery the reduced CD of these skills make them heal even more effective.

Virtue of Resolve is affected by Healing Power quite well too. Without Healing Power it heals for 1,625k. With ~1350 healing Power it gives 2,6k.
If traited, it additionaly gives regen boon.

Healing Breeze & dodge rolls – both of them are affected by the Healing Power nicely. The difference between them with or without Healing Power is quite significant.

Problem with people is, they usually look only at one of these skills separately, and only in aspect of their egoistic self heal ability. Multiply the heal amount by 5, as it can affect your full party, and add the numbers from all the outgoing healing and chain them well with appriopriate cool downs on the given skills. It should turn the table around. If these numbers and suggestions of proper usage the skills still can’t convience people, then I guess I exhausted my resources and will stop bothering.

Apparently, Healing Power is the most important stat for a supportive Guardian. People who don’t see how well it works, and can’t find the proper synergy with all the utility and weapon skills we have are in no position to tell me “Healing power doesn’t scale well”. It scales perfectly well.

Support Guardian is probably the best companion in any dungeon run, as long as he is the only one specializing in full support, while others put their efforts to maximize the amount of damage dealt to all kind of foes.

I’ve ran uncountable many dungeons, as well as most of the readers of these forums. I’m running full healing power Guardian and the berserk warriors I know and run with wouldn’t be able to pull their best dmg without me (15 stacks of might, regen+protection with boon duration extended to 70%, removing condition, stability and aegis on demand, tremendous amount of direct healing, reflective wall and absorbing shield, everything timed well and used when needed).

On the other hand, the “average” guardian swings his GS or hammer and does close to nothing real support we are capable of. So if all you’ve seen is this kind of guardian, I can imagine where the opinion about “healing power scales badly” comes from, it still does not give the justice to the handful of hard working guardians who can pull amazing supportive gameplay.

Build help-Support Tank Dungeon Guardian

in Guardian

Razzy.2741

I have quite many different armor combinations, this one is the best I found to use as support:

Magi’s armor set:
Healing Power + Vitality + Precision (You can get this stats in AC, TA or HoTW)
Runes – 40% Boon duration.
2x Superior Rune of Monk
2x Superior Rune of Water
2x Major Rune of Monk or 2x Major Rune of Sanctuary

Weapon: Magi’s Staff with Superior Sigil of Life + 2nd set of your preference, I recommend sigils which recharge endurance on kill and/or fill 50% of endurance on weapon swap.

Cleric Trinket set:
Healing Power + Toughness + Power

Traits:
0 0 30 30 10

Traits choice: Altruistic Healing, Superior Aria, Two-Handed Mastery, Pure of Voice, Master of Consecrations. Other traits you can choose whatever you like.

Utility skills – shouts:
Stand your ground, Retreat, Hold the Line

Depending on situation, you might want to switch one of shout with Hallowed Ground or Wall of Reflection.

How does it work? You heal, and you heal a lot. Use dodge rolls to heal allies for 1,5k, Empower from Staff and skill 2 (use it as healing skill, so detonate it when it’s near allies). Your shouts spread nice boons and can remove conditions, granting 1 extra boon for condition removed (you can buy some consumables, which extend boon duration for another 20%, altho these got a bit expensive lately). Put light fields under allies who suffer to some conditions, so they can create combos that remove them. You have enough Vitality and Toughness to take some hits and turn into tank as well, if needed.

If you like tanking, you can use Mace+Focus combo as 2nd weapon set, Shelter as healing skill and Renewed Focus as elite. It will be really hard to kill you.

Well, if you keep in mind CoF, AC and TA speed clears, then indeed 120 tokens is not much.

Other dungeons are a bit more demanding. CoE takes much longer usually, not to mention Arah. But it’s a never ending issue about balancing all the dungeons & paths and reward players accorindg to required effort.

Either way, I wouldn’t mind higher price, but getting over 200 is too much in my opinion.

Your build is interesting, so I’d like to see it in action.

For some reason I wouldn’t trust chaos armor that much, but maybe I’m wrong.
I mean, some situations require to give all allies aegis on call, without rellying on luck.

Also, protection is only a damage reduction. Guardians can keep up a lot of protection AND regen at same time, which is much more effective, in my humble opinion.
Guardians can reflect and absorb projectiles with many skills as well.
Guardians have some aoe blind options as well, not so much, but fair enough.
Guardians can provide 3 aegises on demand for all party members within range.

Additionaly, if we are traited and equipped, we can heal all our allies all the time with many our skills. And this healing ability, for me, is one of the most important aspect of being guardian. Sacrificing my own damage, I’m usually able to keep alive 3 berserker warriors with my outgoing healing options, so they don’t use their own heal skills at all. Maintaining protection, regen and blind at right moments, healing and empowering them – it usually outweights any other kind of support. Not to mention our conditions removing options, with shouts and light fields.

Still, I really want to see your mesmer in action

I thought about something similar long ago, and I’m supporting this idea with all my four furry paws.

I think 120 tokens is right price for a single lodestone.

In my case, I’d need the Charged Lodestones. Doing 2 CoE paths to achieve that should be enough time and hard work to be rewarded with this.

I really hope Robert will read this thread and try to convience others to this great idea.
It’s nothing new after all, similar thing was in GW1 (FoW, DoA and UW in GW1) – you were guaranted to receive particular rare materials with the end chest (depending on the dungeon you did)+ chance for some unique rare drops. It encouraged players to do the dungeons, and they knew that at the very least, they will be given some valuable item for sure.

Also, maybe it’s only my impression, but in GW1 – whenever I opened end chest in FoW or UW, I felt very excited. There were many high quality drops, most of them weren’t anythign expensive, but once a while some valuable would drop. In GW2, for some reason, I’m not excited one bit about the chests. I know what I will find there – 3 greenies at best. With this tokens-to-lodestone trade, I would actually feel quite happy whenever I see another 60 tokens given to me.

Lol, you guys never have seen a decent mesmer.
Mesmer > all in everything espacially support in PvE, i outperform every guardian by a lot.

Mesmer is the only must have class in this game for everything.

Now you made me curious.

I’d really want it to be true.
I’ve been playing guardian since the start, and I’ve never seen anyone getting even close to my tanking, healing & support abilities – all in one (then again, I played maybe with 150-200 different people so far, don’t like pugs too much), be it pug or experienced guildie. So if you claim you can outperform every guardian by a lot, which should include me, I would actually start leveling my mesmer.

But before I get excited, could you give me some examples on how exactly you do that? As far as I know, the boons you can give to allies are random. You can’t time aegis or stability right before knock down to prevent it, cast protection and regen at the most fierce battle and I don’t think you can tank anything, neither healing other allies by A LOT. Or am I completely wrong?

I would really want to be proven wrong, as I like mesmers and I think they aren’t played with their full potential by vast majority of players, who just want to pew pew.
