It sure looks cool. But looking cool will not give you a spot in PvE meta. Hopefully some of the utilities and/or traits come with decent group utility.

First impression though: I can dig it

What happens to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

There is still more than half of Orr unexplored. Why not leave the existing areas as they are and instead introduce a new area east of Cursed Shore, that would have fewer risen foes and more signs of restoration? It could be tied to Palawa Joko/Kralkatorrik conflict as well story-wise.

That way new players would still be able to enjoy the existing content, and those who had beaten the main story would see some further development.

JFF - Spec rollout order?

in Ranger

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

Well, so far it was one light-class proffession, then heavy one. This means that the next one will be medium-class profession. There is strong chance the next spec revealed will be Druid, as they’ve been teasing us for some time now.

Anyway, I agree that the last one will probably be Revenant spec. It makes sense.

It’s extremely unlikely Rangers would get another batch of spirits. No class is going to get the skill type they already have.

Dragonhunter Lore

Red Jay.2516

IF it was called Paragon and was focused on shouts then it would be easy – Keiran.

But now when it’s revealed as a Dragonhunter with traps… I don’t know. Basically, every player is a dragon hunter. The whole game is about hunting dragons.

Just as every player is a warrior, yet there is the Warrior that specializes in the arts of war. Pretty much the same thing.

I don’t have a problem with Dragonhunter as a name so long as there are in-game lore reasons for calling it that. Like an actual group of people calling themselves dragonhunters teach my guardian the skills that they think will help them better hunt dragons. However, if HoT launches and I just unlock the elite specialization using the mastery system with no lore whatsoever behind it then I will have a problem with the name and with elite specializations in general.

I’d like to see some form of Dragonhunting order in game. Would be fun.

What new Skill type for Druid IYO?

in Ranger

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

I could see venoms as a unique spin on the druid archetype, however if the spec is supposed to be more supportive in nature (pun not intended), I think Elixirs or Meditations are of bigger possibility.

Come to think of it, I actually quite like the idea of Elixirs as an addition to ranger utilities. The classical druids of old were wise men who dealt with herbs and potions and to whom people came for medicine and advice. There are infinite possibilities of Elixir effects- all that matters is how imaginable Anet will be.

Change the name please. A profession name should give people an idea of how it works. Ranger use bow, Chorno use time, Thief use dagger etc.
Dragon Hunter tells you nothing. . . It does not give you the impression that it is a backline support at all.

Dragons – main baddies of GW2 and primary antagonist of HOT expansion, which introduces the specialization of Dragonhunter
Hunter – a person who hunts game. Traditionally uses bows, and traps.

Tell me again how Avenger, Arbiter, Paladin, Crusader, War monk, Puritan (top kek) or any other suggestion that appeared on these boards would explain the spec better?

Anything can happen at this point. It seems like people are criticizing the entire elite spec simply because they can’t handle its creative guardian/ ranger combo.

That’s what bothers me: It’s NOT creative. It’s not new. It’s plastering something we already have from another class onto this one. I mean I get that maybe it’d be hard to match something as unique as the chronomancer, but this just makes me feel like they didn’t even attempt to do so.

Not sure what you expected when they said they were going to be re-using other class utility types… Beyond that you have no idea what the skills will even do. o.o

They are making ranger traps ground targeted as baseline. Makes sense the guardians’ will be too.

and don’t forget that traps will also have an “arming” timer now too. I’d assume it’d be the same for all traps game wide (thief & now guard as well as ranger).

Makes me less impressed with the dragonhunter heal trap thing.

We don’t know how powerful they’ll be. Even ranger traps will be readjusted to be worth it after the arming “nerf”. I say wait until the stream so we can see the whole picture, than you can rage all you want.

The minion AI is weird. For example the other day I was playing with bone fiend and it worked flawlessly- it attacked what I did without delay. The same goes for bone minions for most of the time. Engie Hammer Wishlist

Red Jay.2516

I really hope hammer engi relies on the main weapon rather then kits, it would feel really fun to play! To keep it engi type style though, we could add something very interesting. Imagine the weapon slot skills would have chains up to 3, but you could chain the hammer no.1 first chain skill, with the no.2 second chain skill, then finish with the no.5 third skill. That would be so complicated but really cool!

Are you rolling Sylvari for HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Red Jay.2516

Well, at least those who haven’t yet made one. Given the not so subtle dev suggestion that we better roll one to play the expansion, and with HoT being Sylvari-content heavy in general, are you going to?

So, is it worth rolling a Ranger?

in Ranger

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

Longbow is perfectly fine weapon for some of the game modes, even dungeons. Just because some record-chasing hardcore nuts hate it doesn’t mean you won’t get in. Just pick some more casual team, or join a guild. Concerning shortbow viability, I am sure you can play world PvE using it, it’s just that the weapon is single target and, skill-wise, much better suited for PvP or WvW.

As for whether is Ranger worth making, there are plenty of people disappointed with current state of the class, and they might discourage you to play it. However, a lot of complaints in this sub are exaggerations born of frustration of (seeming) dev neglect of Ranger. The Ranger is still enjoyable to play in all game formats, even though there are professions which are more effective in individual roles. But that’s curse of being true jack of all trades.

You said you liked hunter. Give Ranger a chance and make your own picture. Maybe the class “clicks” for you and you will like it. Or maybe not. It’s up to you to find out.

The human noble description states than many nobles can trace their lineage back to ancient kings, which I assume refers to Krytan royal family. That would mean that in case Jennah dies childless, there would be actually plenty of candidates for the Krytan throne.

Just because we haven’t seen any Jennah’s relatives – however distant – doesn’t mean there aren’t any.

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

It’s a vicious circle.

1. People do not roll charr because armour is stretched out and clip badly on them.

2. Arena Net won’t fix them because not enough people play them.

3. See #1

Makes me wonder why they made this race playable in the first place if they can’t be bothered to make the armor sets fit them without horrible clipping.

This is known issue with many Sylvari armour sets, along with weirdly placed/scaled shoulder pads.

No idea if Arena Net ever fixes this. Given that Charr are in even worse condition when it comes to armor and clipping issues and devs having no plans on fixing those, I wouldn’t keep my hopes up.

Your favourite Elder Dragon

in Lore

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

Primordus, for following reasons:

1) He was The First. He had the most time to amass his forces, and by the time of GW2, his minions are popping virtually everywhere. This tells me he already controls the Depths of Tyria, and now he is coming for the surface. If so, he is the most powerful Elder Dragon right now.

2) The Dwarves. Remember the little fellas who turned to stone to slow Destroyers’ advance? With Primordus being the next, we’d finally see what happened to them. My theory is they are the only thing that keeps Primy from full scale invasion on the surface.

3) Asuran civilization. Entire Asuran cities, containing advanced technology and magic forgotten even to Asura themselves, lie underground. Meybe we’d found out if there are more Asura refugees in Tyria. More Asuran lore = good.

4) Tengu. If there are any candidates for playable race, it’s them. They are tied to Primordus, as their Dominion of Winds is besieged by destroyers. Also, they are heavy-Canthan themed, which means new Cantha-related lore. It would be the first step in Canthan expansion. Which is good. I probably say Cantha too much. I don’t care.

I feel Primordus would bring the most from the Elder Dragons. Dwarven, Asuran and Canthan lore, there is enough variety to make the content interesting. Also, the thought of Primordus erupting from the ground like a volcano and our characters charging him is exciting as kitten.

[staff] Explain Why...

in Elementalist

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

I agree that staff autoattacks need to be buffed. However, IMO, each attunement AA needs to be buffed in regards to its attunement forte, so to say:

Fire: Make the splash larger, otherwise leave it as it is.
Water: Make the splash larger as well, increase the healing done to allies
Lightning: Remove the bounce, increase projectile speed, increase damage done
Earth: Add 2 stacks of bleed, otherwise keep as it is

Something like this.

Should Sylvari have never been made?

in Lore

Posted by: Red Jay.2516

Red Jay.2516

Again, blame the writers, not the race. Caithe for example is pretty much the most complex and fleshed-out character out of Destiny’s Edge (well, it’s hardly an achievment, considering Eir is as flat as an office paper), and she’s Sylvari. The reason PS and LS writers chose this race to fulfil their inner fantasies is because they don’t need to think of any deep back-stories, aside from “she fell from the tree and she was genius”.
