The water skills are good because a water field is great to add for healing. Air skills? WTF are they good for?
Dev feedback? No Karl abandoned us. Here I am playing the same old build while scappers, chronos, and revs put me into 10 seconds of stun. But hey, at least I can’t burn people with RoF anymore!
The most annoying thing is that we still only have 1 playstyle/build. I’ve played ele alot, and I’ve mastered the d/d rotation. I know when to break rotation, but there’s a cap on what you can do with the ele. Even from day 1 revenants were destroying me despite me having way more experience as an ele than they had with revenant. Some of these new elite specs are just mopping the floor because the only build we have has limits. I can’t even escape from a rev with RtL + LF + FGS because they just shadowstep all over the place while getting passive evades.
We cried and cried and cried for a different play style BEFORE Tempest came out. What happened? “Hey look its frontline support.” Oh great, yeah we didn’t have access to that already or anything. Maybe next expac we will get the burst spec many of us were asking for, but as of now Karl is too shameful to visit the forums because he knows hes been pretending not to hear us for the last 3 months. Its pathetic honestly.
dude this build is sick… The survivability is incredible for a burst ele spec. Warriors and rangers give me problems but kudos to you.

I logged in to say “no” to this.
Even if you are using d/d in pve this is not what you would do. Where is the lightning whip?
So basically to clarify
;
Everything we all claimed when we heard the announcement – We were then told to wait for the reveal.
Everything we said after the reveal – We were then told to wait and play it.
And everything is still the same after playing it.Anet you need to be public about what you plan to do. This spec is in a horrible place and just number tweaking will not solve the problem. Traits need a rework (especially 2 new minors to make up for the 1 that takes 3 spots) Shouts need buffs. The Elite would be better if it just was an icon that said “LOL” and causes your character to make a rude remark at your current target, seriously the mind games of a taunt would be better than this elite. Its a joke how bad it is.
Please give me this skill. I would trade fgs for it. Plus I could trait to gain 2 might on use. Please Anet, I need this.
Yeah, please don’t remind me on Mesmers, thanks Mighty xD lol I know, this absolute true fact.
Thats why I put them in regard of OP’ness on the same level as like Eles, because Mesmers make Thieves currently and especially in future with Chronomancers, if this game balance stays so, pretty much obsolete >.<The problem is, you can’t counter these kind of bunkerish Eles with even a bunkerish thief..
Because
A) Anet destroyed our second half that made us kind of survivable agaisnt the bursts of an Ele completely by shredding Acrobatics into pieces
B) when going seriously for a more defensive Thief build to last longer againdst these high condition stacks of Burning and Bleeding, we absolutely lack the power to be even a threat to these Eles, because they can simply outheal everything, even our bursts by just using their heals..and even poison helps not this much, because with Evasive arcana and their constant condition removals that a Thief can only dream of, they basicalyl can constantly remove it, before it becomes even dangerous for them.D/D Thief simply lacks in everythign to be really a danger at all for a D/D Ele…
Thats what I mean,t that the current balance of this game practically forces us into the S/D, D/P and P/D Meta, to be even competitive together with SA, because anythign else isn’t viable anymore at all …Thieves aren’t meant really to +1.. yeah under the current game balance it might be so, because the Thief is now so underwhelming weak after pretty much all other Classes received with the last patch so much power creep, that its alot safer for a thief now to constantly +1, than to do duels, unless you play one of the thief meta builds that are competitive enough to roam with them around solo or hold with them points in PvP, cause of them not requiring so much Stealth to deal enough damage.
I’ve seen also very good thieves and I’m sure not as good at playing the thief, but that has something to do with my personal little issues with hand to eye reflexes.
However I still believe that Eles need a tone down. I see it here in the forums and also ingame, that I’m not alone with this opinion, but naturally the opinion how to tone them done is from person to person different. My proposals may be in regard of the chosen numbers maybe a bit too much, who knows, but I’m sure, they go into the right direction. If the Ele receives then also some buffs at the same time at Scepter, Focus and Staff to make these Weapons a bit more viable, I think we would see then also alot more build diversity and not only practically everywhere D/D Eles running around in PvP and WvW, unless you’re running with a Zerg, where you find alot of Staff Eles naturally.
I’m also open minded enough to accept, that when Damage shouldn’t get nerfed, that it would be absolutely ok also, if ANet simply does something about the too good survivability or control at the same time. What exactly is naturally then their job to decide.
Dude stop. Thieves won’t beat cele eles not because of all the things you think, but simply because of the type of spec it is. Every spec has another spec it can’t beat. You can’t fail at bursting an ele then get upset when they don’t die. Let me remind you that eles weren’t even PvP meta before the recent patch. They were good for solo queue, but shoutbow warriors completely outclassed them in thier role.
Are eles OP? No. The term OP gets thrown around way to much. Not just in GW2, but a lot of games. Are eles good? Yeah. Every game has specs that outclass others. You can’t expect every class to be on the same level. Mesmers are better than eles right now! You shouldn’t base the power of a class on how good you are as a thief against it, especially when you aren’t playing thief in its role.
Should eles be toned down? I think so, but what you proposed is miles off. You just destroyed the d/d spec completely and gave the focus unneeded (but welcome) buffs. Did you know focus has a 4s invuln? Yeah I bet as a thief you would loooove that.
Dragon claw, ring of fire, updraft, ride the lightning, shocking aura, cleansing wave, churning earth is not the problem. The problem is the celestial amulet needs a small nerf. (And it isn’t the healing power. I don’t know if you know this but healing power does nothing lol).
Just wait and see what happens when burning gets nerfed. You have to change one thing at a time. You’d be surprised how much a small tweak on 1 or 2 skills can balance a class. You can’t change everything, especially when you don’t know how the class works.
Orphael destroys d/d. Lol I main ele and I’m all for nerfs, but you are nerfing things like glyphs of elemental power and arcane power wtf lol. And arcane brilliance can be used underwater, ether renewal isn’t used in d/d and can be interrupted. Please don’t propose changes when you don’t even know the inner workings of a class that you don’t play. I mean you are complaining about thieves in 1v1s. Do you play thief? You are supposed to +1 fights, not 1v1. It’s so annoying that everyone that doesn’t play ele keeps coming here and saying how it should be nerfed when they don’t even play the class. It seems like you literally googled “Elementalist skills” and just changed skills you thought were good.
You seriously proposed to nerf churning earth? Excuse me if I white girl but I literally can’t even.
While I don’t know about this idea, all I want is a viable burst spec.
Pvp = fiery Greatsword used for mobility to escape fights
Pve= ice bow to use skill 4 then drop
Lightning hammer used to be used in PvE but staff is so good now it’s pointless. Everything else got put into the game by accident.
Scepter needs a serious buff. The fact that you can’t even burst a D/D ele in pvp is so annoying. And as a result everyone runs that cancer monkey build.
Shouldn’t there be at least 1 build that can’t be bursted? People don’t just run it because it’s the best, but because everything else it terrible. It isn’t even d/d, it’s celestial with water and arcane. I think burst builds are cancer tbh. Especially thief. You mess up your burst, just stealth and back off, wait for cooldown and try again. It’s the opposite of high risk play which is what burst should be.
Strange, when a warrior with twice more hp hits me for 7-10k I don’t feel OP at all.
only way a warrior hits a cele D/D ele that hard is you have a lot of vuln stacks + they used a burst skill/landed 100b in which case you should be cleansing or l2 dodge their easily telegraphed burst skills….. cele DD ele should EASILY beat any time of warrior that outs right now… they are by far one of the easiest classes to 1v1 as an ele..
Let’s talk about gs:
~1K AA
3-5K #3 (depending on placement when cast)
1K5 x2 #4
5K #5You sure can dodge everything :x (already assuming you never get hit by #2)
Complaining about warrior beeing op ? no, cause if you play ele well you can win the 1V1
On the patch day i got deleted by 10101 zerker warrior, 24H later i adapted my gameplay => loss to warrior are like the 32th of a month.
Adapt to ele ? very easy example: run a doom sigil ? Probably the strongest sigil in the game, it shred eles and is far from useless against other class.
Are you saying doom sigil beats ele? Bro I cleanse like 8 condis per second by accident. I would try sigil of undead slaying honestly.
I would like to say that it depends on you skill or playstyle. But D/D set is superior to staff. I still play celestial (or zerker, if I am in a very confident mood) staff because I do not like daggers. Staff brings more to your team if you use it right, at least for me. DD can do many things that a staff ele can do, with much ease, but it’s team support is lower than staff.
By the way if you will try ele in pvp, try scepter/focus fresh air. Hard to learn, fun to play. My favourite pvp build is s/f. Only bad part is that you can not play it constantly because it causes my hand to ache. Too many buttons, too little time
I actually disagree. The only support staff can give that is better than d/d is putting a meteor shower on a point. It may have 2 water fields, but it has no way of blasting them unless you are in earth first. D/d has water 5, swapping to water (which it does constantly for blast finisher, unlike staff which only switches to water to heal), water 2, and doging in water. Also it provides huge amounts of might for anyone fighting on point.
Honestly staff is just a better bunker. D/d can win more 1v1s and provides more team support. I think staff is pretty good at a mid point if you are able to stand off to the side.
I think it’ll work to start off in air since you don’t need to go back to it, and using it in fire after doing the fire rotation because after ice now, you pretty much sit in fire until the end of the fight. It sucks there is no damage mods in tempest though.
Going to try fire/arcana/tempest with run of the trooper. Take persisting Flames to keep up burning speed because we are probably going to have to use that as our fire field.
If not I might replace it with air… But only time will tell.
So many people are complaining about the elite skill and claiming Elementalist doesn’t have any good elites at all…
I’m still happy with Tornado. And now we get FIRE tornado! We can even have swiftness and protection while channeling it?
Spin to win, my brothers. Spin to win.
You are part of the problem…unless being sarcastic. No one likes Tornado.
Since Patch Tornado is at least for PVP and WvW most valuable Elite Skill. Just trait Air and Water and you nuke everything with it, get healing and vigor etc. Tornado is since a long time pretty awesome if you know how 2 Play it.
Are you sure you are talking about tornado?
Ofc, compare to fgs and elemental glyph tornado is way more bether for pvp and wvw than the other 2.
Trait in Water Soothing disruption, cd of tornado ist reduce to 120 s, you gain vigor/reg. With tempest defense and lightning rod you increase the dmg of the tornado, because of the high amount of cc. (each cc additional lightning strike for 2k-4k). But yeah, if you want just play the crap posting on metabattle, tornado isn’t an option, but in my opinion tornado most underrated elite skill, because if you can us it you are able 2 decide the fight for your side.
Yeah, decide ultimate doom for yourself when you get focused and can’t heal.
Fgs escape > everything
I want everyone claiming this elite spec “sucks” or “is completely useless” or “that its making them not even want to buy the expansion” to swear an oath that they will never play it. We are having a live stream today, and I bet it’s going to showcase some traits that are going to make this spec a lot better than you think it is. Mark my words, Tempest will return dagger/x to PvE.
Great, a PvE only specialization then? Boy so glad they really tried to give us something designed for a single game mode and not something that could be used in PvP and WvW, cause you know, there is no elementalist that plays those modes.
And also, in PvE anything works. I usually run D/D in PvE because I like the weapon pair, even if I know staff is far superior.
And as Kodiak said, we will see the math soon enough, but it is really digging it’s own grave when the specialization is offering most of its stuff for a single game mode.
I never said it was a PvE only spec? You guys sure do like to skim over things just to hate on something. I think the new spec is looking less solid on the pve side. We already know warhorn has a fire field, and shouts don’t look too bad depending on how the traits affect them. There’s also rune of the trooper, but I’m skeptical on that because it would hinder our damage too much.
Right now pvp has d/d cele, bunker staff, and d/f condi. D/d is obviously the go to, but for PvE it’s basically staff or nothing. I think if overloading in air is good we will see more daggers in PvE because of fresh air. It’d also be good for staff pvp because air is pretty pointless, so if we go to a fight with singularity ready, we can use it in air and not have to worry about being locked out of air.
I think people are going in to this with the wrong point of view. Elite specs aren’t supposed to make the class better (it can, but that isn’t the goal). It’s just there to make the class different. It would make sense if Tempest wasn’t as good as d/d cele because d/d cele is already so good it would be kind of crazy to get something better. It won’t take the place of d/d I think, but it might open a new role. We will just have to wait and see. You can’t please both sides of the traits aren’t adjusted for each game type. Just look at engi.
I think we can expect tempest to be stronger in PvE than in PvP just based off of Te current meta build’s dominance. I am optimistic that this will improve d/f (or d/w) for dungeons and fractals providing the new traitline has damage modifiers so that we can use fire/air/tempest.

This Elite Spec is so so awful. I could give 2 million reasons why, but why should I when my words will go on deaf ears… This proves they haven’t listened to the community at all… We have a Elite Spec based on support!!!!!! Everything else we have is SUPPORT!!!! This doesn’t even change the way the ele plays!!!!! This is just Horrible. I am glad I didn’t preorder, maybe I will be back next x-pac… See you guys when GW2 The Awakening of Jormag comes out, than may we get a true weapon and a true Elite spec.
Doesn’t change the way ele plays?….. I’m done trying. I’ve tried too hard to speak against this ignorance.
You are free to believe that people are speaking out of ignorance. Your comment reads like someone who hates it that people have a different opinion about a toy he likes and is taking it too personal, aka “I am done trying” crap.
the tempest sucks, you can disagree all you want, it doesn’t make it less true.
Prove it sucks, then you can have some valid argument here.
1. let’s see the tempest doesn’t add anything that elementalist lacks. All the things it brings we could already do extremely well. Nobody ever goes “gee I wish elementalist support wasn’t good”.
2. The class mechanic is unusable against opponents that have something called a brain, it only works against PvE mobs.
3. Ironically, the class mechanic is actually better on the staff than the warhorn.
4. the elite suck since it requires far too much coordination short of mind sharing, it will be wasted on an auto attack.
5. The shouts are not better than cantrips. Cantrips are still going to be the best.
6. The tempest isn’t going to change our dependence on either arcane or water. The most important thing is #2, the class mechanic sucks.
Guild wars 2 has a lot of interrupts good luck getting off a skill with 2.75-5 sec cast time. IF you do get the skill off, the attunement has a 15 to 20 CD which is long considering the elementalist needs to attunement dance. If you get interrupted which is extremely easy, the overcharge and attunement goes on full CD.I am speaking strictly PvP and WvW, PvE is not relevant. anything and everything can work.
Since you love asking questions, why don’t you tell me why tempest doesn’t suck. (actually don’t bother).
The elite specs aren’t supposed to give professions things they lack. It’s simply a tweak in its core mechanics. How could you say cantrips are still going to be better than shouts, or we are still dependant on water and arcana? The reason cantrips are so good is because we have trait synergy to cure condis with regen, and grant regen with cantrips. We don’t know what traits are going to affect shouts.
We don’t know what the warhorn skills are yet.
The new mechanic will probably suck in 1v1. You’ll be focused naturally since it’s a 1v1, and the overload skills look to function better with allies or against a group. Imagine this, you just won a 1v1 at home and go to mid to help your team. By the time you get there, your air singularity is ready and you are able to cast it since the other team hasn’t recognized your presence yet, and you are able to get off a powerful attack for free.
The main thing, we don’t know what traits will affect overloading attunements yet. I doubt they would leave us with nothing considering it’s the mechanic tied to the trait tree. People are acting like we are constantly going to be using the singularity. I see it being used if you can’t break through the enemy, sit in fire for a bit, cast overload and hit armor of earth to turn the fight in your favor.
I think we can expect traits to help us cast safely as well as lowering cast time and cooldown away from attunements.
Stop acting like you know everything just because the warhorn turned you into a bag of salty salt salt.

He can’t. He’s just here to cry about everything like he has been since warhorn was even brought up. All we have is the minor traits and we don’t even have the warhorn skills, yet people act like they know everything, and just complain because they don’t have a job or any friends.
Elementalists are selfish? Maybe with heals but if you aren’t helping your teammates then you aren’t stacking might like you should. Giving 20 might to everyone on a node is pretty big. Not to mention attuning to water, dodging in water, and cleansing wave. Also 2 of our cantrips almost garuntee a stomp and almost garuntee a rez.
Sometimes on courtyard I’ll even use the aura share trait with magnetic aura. Pretty much protects the whole team during the opening parts of the fight.
You don’t even know if any traits are going to affect this yet… And… Armor of earth.
I think it is going to be symbols, which would be quite lame I think. What I’m really hoping for is mantras, but I see stances or marks as well.
10/10 would read post again
One thing no one is thinking is that more elite specs are coming out in the future. Are you expecting for your main to get sword, greatsword, hammer, etc. Some classes are going to get an ohh hand weapon. Elite specs aren’t meant to fix classes. Also, you don’t have to use the new weapon to use The new spec. Right now d/d cele is water/arcana and preference. You can still use d/d and spec into tempest as your 3 traitline. It might be good.
So don’t buy it if you want to. But even if we were getting a sword, it’s sad you’d pay $50 just to use a weapon. There’s a lot of cool stuff coming in the expansion, and if none of it appeals to you except wielding a sword, why do you even play? I wanted a sword, got a warhorn. Oh well. Still going to have fun tweaking builds as the meta changes with the new specs.
All you did was make me hate warhorn even more. 4 fields, and 4 AoEs? So every attunement is identical?
How about 1 fire field, 1 invuln, 1 condi cleanse, and 5 blast finishers. That sounds good.
What I don’t like is warhorn = group support. I don’t want that. I want more solo power, or group support through damage. I already provide group support as a dd cele ele with might, heals, and condi cleanse, which I can keep with a new weapon because it’s all in my traits. I don’t want lame pointless skills like “give allies 10 seconds of swiftness and vigor” or “provide 5 seconds of fury and regen” to allies.
I want burst. I want autoattack chains. I want a sword that throws 600-900 range fireballs that also has a sweet autoattack in air so I can finally get range and Melee in one build. Scepter sucks, and dagger is old. I have everything I could possibly want in OH dagger and focus. Any weapon that beat out those two off hands will be nerfed in 2 days.
But you know if we do get warhorn, I guess I’ll have a cheap legendary that I can toot to victory.
As an Ele I can’t engage in ranged combat either with the d/d build. The only way to engage in range and Melee with an ele is conjures but they don’t work in pvp.
Hey all, I’ve play a bit of PvP but it is getting quite stale and I want to try a go at WvW. I’ve only played a bit with a soldiers set aging back line staff in a zerg.
I’m about halfway done with celestial armor, but what about weapons and trinkets? Should I go for celestial on those too or do people throw in other stuff? I’m about to make the fractal back piece and need to know if I should choose celestial.
Thanks
For PVP/PVE? And we have Scepter and Sword, need more than an ‘S’. Also if it’s PVE meta would dictate Mace/Torch for DPS, however if you don’t care about that, that’s fine.
If you’re referring to sword it’s pretty much GS -> Whirling Wrath -> Symbol -> Leap -> Binding Blades -> Auto till WW up and WW again, swap to the Sword/Focus -> Focus 4 and maybe 5 -> Auto attack till weapon swap it up and finish your chain then swap.
If you meant Scepter it’s pretty much the same but with dropping smite when it’s up. Maybe tossing the immobilize in either for vuln or just to lock them down if people are kiting.
If you’re running Symbolic Avenger (you should be, it works now) you want to drop your symbol before hitting whirling wrath.
True, still old rotation in my head, plus you delay it now with the mace/torch set starting things off.
for the OP, for large hit boxes such that it’s worth using scepter you’ll actually want Scepter + Torch/Focus (I believe, maybe just torch).
If you stick to GS do the normal rotation as I said before but as pointed out above drop the symbol first.
With Torch you grab Radiant fire and it’s a noticeable increase to damage getting those 2 bursts from tossing zealot’s flame. Then as far as rotation you’ll start in Focus 4/5, then swap torch and get 4 Zealot’s flames out (2 radiant fire procs followed by the actual skill each time) then swap back catch another focus 4 and swap back to torch when you can for the same 4 Flames.
Welp I just got a fractal mace, so I’m gonna use GS+M and should I use focus or torch? I already have Zojja’s artifact.

My bad, I’m using this build with scepter/focus for ranged or large hitbox enemies in PvE.
Just autoleveled my guardian to 80 with tomes but don’t know what rotation I should be using with GS/SF guardian.
After using staff 5 you can switch to earth and auto attack to grant regen
OP you should go play ele for like 5 minutes.
Thanks for the suggestion, I got several thousands hours/games on ele.
Yet you think a blind with a 5 second cooldown needs a nerf? Really it is longer because we don’t camp in fire. It is also a grand master trait. It doesn’t really seem passive to me. If you are in fire and need a blind use drakes breath. We have the lowest base armor in game, I think a 5 ICD is fine. Guardians have 2004281 buttons that heal and make them invulnerable.
I would say a rework rather than a nerf. It doesn’t seem passive to you? How about the fact you proc the blind from another proc? You don’t even need to do anything to get the blind off besides randomly hitting your enemy. Ele has quite a lot healing and invulnerabilities, too. This really doean’t justify a passive defesnvie trait.
I still don’t see the problem with passives? Should we remove the chance to burn on crit? Should we take away critical hits altogether? Crit chance is passive and happens automatically, doesn’t require anything different to proc.
And what is wrong with procs proccing something else? Should we remove removing condis when giving regen so that cantrips don’t cure condis? Ele is as active as a class can be, passives are neccesarry in surviving with such a squishy class, and we still have less passives compared to other classes that have more natural defense than we do.
OP you should go play ele for like 5 minutes.

It doesn’t matter if multiple classes are getting the same weapon because more elite specs are coming out in the future.

Let me put it this way.
I can’t play any other class.
Well not completely true, I find engi to be fun in PvP, but it is very similar to ele. Yes it is extremely fun and in PvE you will feel like a god.
Water is usually the important part for surviving :-)
I always run water and arcana.
Hmm I guess I should try running earth instead of air/fire. Just thought it would be too weak.
well definitely not 5m, but at least 30 seconds of dodging in water and using cantrips. I’m doing better with a cele staff just because all the burning puts pressure on people to back off.
I’ve been only playing d/d for a few months, and I’ve never had a problem surviving in most 1v2s. Even using amulets with 1200 toughness I get half my health taken out before I see my opponent (usually mesmer). I can’t even play PvP without getting wrecked by every class other than engi and ranger.
Whenever I jump into a fight all these random conditions get on me and I die really fast.
No kidding. I’m not having problems with 1v1s, but I can’t sustain 1v2s anymore. Condis just melt me. Also guardians are a pain now and I used to eat them alive (d/d arcana, water, air)
I really like mantras and think they’d make sense with the theme of tempest. They take time to brew then unless rapidly, just like a monsoon or hurricane.
Autoattack chains.
1 weapon set that offers a variety of ranges (possibly in different attunements)
Mantras.
No warhorn.
Condi bunker ele has always been possible and I dare say more effective than power bunker, mostly due to condi dmg being conjoint with defensive stats on sets like dire and apothecary….
However, I’ve always felt like the earth traitline did not offer much for a condi ele, to the point of being counter productive to go 6 earth – you’d lose much of your defenses and get nothing in return. I find traits like diamond skin and stone hearth very limited and for the way I like to play ele (which usually involves 1vsX) their power is very reduced. From the new traits in the line I like geomancer’s training the most and its probably as much as I’ll invest on earth…. The new fire traits are very interesting for condi bunker as well… we’ll see, we can do a lot of theorycrafting but nothing is definitive until we’re able to run it.
You won’t be able to “invest” in earth, you have to take the whole trait line.
I am basing this off the d/d ele most likely speccing into earth/water/arcana.
Stone heart will prevent cries while attuned to earth. Now even though this sounds awesome, would it actually be good? It would allow us to switch to earth to avoid a massive crit backstabbing from a theif, bind them with 3 and knock them down with 4, and then set us up for a damage rotation. The downside is we have to stay in earth, the attunement that is basically only used for blast finishers. I could see it being a staple in s/f, but how does it compete with signet of restoration + written in stone in the tried and true d/d ele build?
Written in Stone will allow us to actually use our signet heal skill that has always been a no no button unless it is your last option. Written in Stone will keep the passive effects and lower the cooldown to 20s! This basically provides us with an extra heal as well as our water 5 being reduced by 33% if we spec into water.
THANKS GUYS
Computer problems are very stressful for me because I’m not the best with the inner workings of things, but I think it is back to being good!
I haven’t tested it out yet, but I’m getting ~130 fps on min settings with character models turned up, and around ~60 fps at all max, though I haven’t been to any highly populated areas. Regardless, it is way better than it was.
Thanks
My main problem now is having no display
Edit: monitor is getting display. I had to use a DVI port on my graphics card. Weird that none of my MOBO ports would work?
