I always thought it would be interesting if some weapons had more than one auto attack on the weapon, especially considering the various effects and traits of some auto attacks, I think they could make it pretty interesting.
Every zone in the game is solo player friendly. Its nice to have at least two open world zones where teaming up with others feels somewhat useful.
I went through the event twice, and never died. I got downed a couple times, but was able to either get myself up or be helped by others.
If you want to learn how to play in big laggy zergs, try your hand at WvW.
LOL, some of you are so dramatical.
What do you want? To hit 80 and have nothing to do? You want to eat the carrot on the stick as soon as you roll your toon?! People like to feel like their character continues to grow past level cap, it’s called end game.
If you don’t like progression and time sink, MMO’s are clearly not for you.
I know its impossible for you to grasp, because you probably play games for things like meaningless achievment points on XBox instead of fun, but some people simply enjoy playing games, not “chasing a carrot on a stick”, and enjoyed GW1 for years until GW2 came out.
I always thought the definition of an MMO was a massive virtual world in which hundreds or thousands of players all existed together. I didn’t know the initials “MMO” stood for “stat treadmill”.
God knows there have never been games that ever existed in which anyone played “just for fun” and heaven forbid an MMO developer ever strive to make a game that’s about that instead of carrot-on-a-stick.
OP’s TLDR: No MMO should ever be different or deviate from the norm.
People used to complain Orr was “impossibly difficult” too. Its fine. Also, its good that people can die sometimes. Things are boring without a bit of effort and risk.

Can’t wait till everyone starts requiring ascended with agony resist! Hurray! Thank you Arenanet!
Well if a group is level 20 clearly you will need the new gear to run with them or you will die from the damage alone….. Why on earth would they invite someone that cant even live through a debuff?
You guys hating on things really aren’t thinking about anything really but what you can complain about and forsake.
I don’t know why some people were crying on the forum, to add a pointless gating mechanic, when all this “progression” is… is just repeating the same thing. It doesn’t matter if the dungeon is harder, if you have gear that negates the increased difficulty. Whats the point, other than the fact you cried and spammed the forums about needing bigger and bigger numbers?
I feel bad for the guy who got an underwater legendary.
The asura have offered to experiment on the sylvari and determine why they appear immune to corruption, but so far no one has volunteered.
Nobody’s volunteered, but didn’t the asura dissect the first sylvari they encountered? I’m surprised the Inquest never captured/studied sylvari and their dragon corruption immunity. In CoE, they seem to have captured humans and other races to test corruption of them, judging from one of the rooms with a shattered human in the story mode.
That’s not the only way sylvari are twisted to the Nightmare, and you’d know this if you paid attention. :P Simple torture is enough to do it – psychological torture, that is. For sylvari, falling to the nightmare is, literally, synonymous with going insane.
Mental breakdowns, insanity, etc. – for humans, leads to bubbling idiots to psychopaths. For sylvari, leads to the nightmare (aka, only psychopaths).
Knowing this, those pods are probably just torture devices.
Interesting. Only Sylvari stuff I’ve done is storymode of TA. I figured Nightmare Court was their equivalent of Icebrood, since the pod captives seem unwilling and are “forcibly” converted. I thought their visibly getting darker than normal sylvari was some kind of corruption. There’s six points around Crucible of Eternity, which each seem to represent a different Elder Dragon, though there are only 5 Elder Dragons, I think, and the sixth point is plant themed. Figured there might be some plant themed secret 6th Elder Dragon.
Sylvari may be immune to Zhaitan, but they are the only ones vulnerable to nightmare corruptions…
I disagree here. There’s an event in Caledon Forest where the mosshearts are at risk of being corrupted by the Nightmare Court. This isn’t just a psychological torment, but they are visibly tainted. This makes me think the oakhearts and mosshearts are attached to the Pale Tree in some way, since the sylvan hounds can also be corrupted and, according to the wiki, are created by the Pale Tree.
I meant the only “people”. There don’t seem to be any Nightmare Court Humans, Charr, Asura, and Norn.

Sylvari may be immune to Zhaitan, but they are the only ones vulnerable to nightmare corruptions.
If anyone’s bothered exploring enough, you’ll notice Shattered and Icebrood are created the same way as Nightmare Court Sylvari: Someone is placed in a pod (instead of encased in ice/crystal), and they come out corrupted.
Why make the dungeons get harder, and then have gear that makes each “harder” tier just as easy as the first tier? Couldn’t the gear grind folks have stayed with WoW?
And these requirements just create gating, and a required gear grind, which is exactly what so many were worried about with the announcement of “progression”. But apparently some players need bigger and bigger numbers (which are ultimately meaningless) because… I dunno, they don’t have jobs so need to game to be turned into work?
Imagine how fun this will be months and months down the line, when full ascended is released, and most people start requiring full ascended with as much anti-agony as possible to even join a party for level 1.
Can’t wait till everyone starts requiring ascended with agony resist! Hurray! Thank you Arenanet!
The real answer is likely: If this ascended/infusion/agony thing turns out to be a mess and hurts the game financially or causes a noticeable drop in players (losing more due to this, than those lost for lack of it), then they won’t add any more content like it. However, if this is successful, or doesn’t negatively impact the game in a negative way, we’ll likely see all new content follow this route, in which each dungeon has a unique scaling debuff, and you have to obtain more and more resistance gear specific to that dungeon to progress in it – and possibly other different/new implementations of progression/rewards.
So… vote with your time and/or money. If you hate the new content, stop buying things, or take it a step further and stop playing. If you like it, then buy gems and play the new content. They don’t only care about gems, but people actively populating their game as well (noticeable drops in population make a community/game seem weak, and thus those who DO spend money are less likely to invest).

They could have always just added infusion slots to all existing exotics/legendaries, since the infusion slots are what’s supposed to be the actual “progression” aspect of it anyway. From my understanding, legendaries had no statistical advantage over exotics prior to the upcoming patch which is changing things, so statistically there was no need for something “in between exotics and legendaries”.
The problem a lot of people seem to be having is that they probably bought gems or grinded or whatever for various sets of exotics under the belief (based on A-Net’s prior statements) that exotics would be the best there was statistically. There’s a big difference, to many people at least, between paying real money or spending valuable time on a permanent and final upgrade vs a very temporary upgrade.
I thought the word “complimentary” was used as in “in complement to the new dungeons/content”. To complement them. To go with them. Not “here’s your complementary gift bag” kind.
So you’re saying I should be happy that I have to buy on the TP or grind in-dungeons for a new type of resistance gear every time I want to do a new dungeon?
Lets make it so there are WvW levels, which only exist in WvW in addition to real levels, and increase your power just as much as real levels, so we can add a whole new layer of “progression” and content-specific power creep. That way the people who feel like “WvW is pointless.” can play it to “progress” instead of for fun, and everyone will need to grind their WvW level to compete on an even playing field, because who needs skill when you have artificial stat requirements to win, gained through grinding?
Well when do you start noticing more progress? Is it exactly at 40, or do you start sensing a change at a lower level like 20?
Exactly at 40, when you retrait to the next tier of traits. They completely change and define how you play mesmer.
There will always be “more important thing” like glitches, class balance complaints, etc. If ANet never worked on anything but those things, we’d never get anything. Anyway, I doubt the artist in charge of moving a pauldron 1 millimeter so it doesn’t clip anymore is also in charge of class balance and making sure dungeons work.
doesnt work. i’ve reported this but no one seems to believe me.
well it’s working for me, are you trying it in the mists?
No, it doesn’t work in the actual game.
I recently put a superior sigil of earth on my greatsword and 1h sword. I’ve been testing it all night, attacking with no clones/phantasms, and greatsword #1 attack doesn’t proc any bleeds for me. I have 64% crit, but I’ve tested it enough that even if I had 1% crit, I should have at least seen 1 bleed by now. I’ve tested the sigil with a 1h sword, and it works fine. It seems to only not work with a greatsword.
Anyone with a greatsword and sigil of earth who can tell me if its just not working for me, or if its not working for anyone, or something?

I got a bit annoyed – level 1 to 70 I kept finding all these awesome greatcoats for my female medium armour. Then I get to 80 and suddenly it’s all fur bikinis and dresses (or otherwise bog-standard studded leather like the AC medium set).
Is it too much to ask for something like the level 1-70 coats, except epic?
You can transmute the stats of Lv80 exotics onto any piece of gear. /facepalm
Hi, if someone knows the answer or can point me in the direction of answers, it would be appreciated.
I’m curious how conditions and condition damage works exactly. You can only apply one stack of burning. I believe addition applications of burning increases the duration. What about burning from multiple sources though?
Player 1 applies burning on a target, and Player 2 (who has half the condition damage of Player 1) also applies burning, how is it calculated? What happens exactly? How much damage does the burning do, and who’s condition damage is it based off?
I would disagree. I think it looks good. You see for yourself whether it’s worth it or not.
I agree. Legendary GS seems really fitting on Mesmer with that distortion-like effect.
What runes do use? If you want vitality and are worried about conditions, I suggest Soldier runes. They’re an amazing siurce of Vit without really compromising anything else and the 6 piece bonus is equiv to one of our 30 point traits.
Kruunch, I run with an Altruistic Healing build too but I run with Sigil of Blood, the lifesteal on crit, instead of the might sigil. Do you get more healing from might procs, or do you use it because you get might in addition to healing? As I understand, the lifesteal sigil also deals extra damage when it procs amd heals more, but I cant say for certain. I was curious aboutyour opinion.
A Warrior is just as likely to be a Knight as they are to be a Berserker. That’s the downside of being the vague, generic, all-in-one “Warrior”.
As a Guardian, I fully support you Warriors donating the entire “For the Great Justice” ability to us. That’s very generous of you, Warriors.
I agree that at the very least, clones should mimic offhand, healthbar, and titles. They don’t do any DPS, nor any intelligent movement. The whole point of clones is to look like you and fool other players. If they don’t even look like you, what’s the point?
A lot of classes have similar issues, where people don’t like the base mechanic and the base mechanic is very underwhelming if you don’t trait for it. Off the top of my head: Death Shroud for Necromancers, and Steal for Thieves. Like with Mesmers, you can get away with mostly neglecting the F keys and not traiting for the “core class mechanic”. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were even Warriors who traited for the Fury levels boosting stats and had a playstyle built around not pressing F1.
People trying to mock the OP by saying there’s no point in his playing a Mesmer just because he rarely/doesn’t shatter are being ridiculous. Not building a Mesmer around shattering is perfectly viable, and still plays uniquely like a Mesmer and not some other class. I don’t think Arenanet intends for everyone to revolve their playstyle around using their F-key as much as possible, considering there’s so many builds for so many classes which neglect those mechanics.
It’s a case of just one aspect of the class which, if you don’t like it, don’t worry about it. That’s kind of the point of traits and different builds anyway. Even within a single class, there’s diversity.
Sounds like you’re chasing the clones around attacking them. That’s definitely a huge problem. Go after the mesmer. The clones will either stand still and attack from range, or blindly melee rush auto attack you. Anyone kiting, dodge rolling, or using an ability is the real mesmer. Also, if you pay attention, the clones never have the mesmer’s offhand. Once you actually know how they work, they’re very easy to defeat.
Make sure to have an enemy target locked when using Leap of Faith. Otherwise, you have to hope the ability automatically targets the target you intend, if it targets anything at all.
Does anyone know what the set from Liquidoxygen’s screenshots on the first page is called?
You get 60 tokens the first time you run a dungeon path, and then 20 tokens for subsequent runs that day. Does it reset to 60 again when the daily achievement resets?
Why do you care if people want advice? If discussion of class builds offends you so much, then maybe the class forums aren’t the best place to read.
Not standing still while taking loads of damage does wonders for extending your health pool.
Signet is the best heal for Guardian. It heals for over twice of what Shelter heals. Some try to claim the 2 seconds of invincible justify it, but you’re rooted for those 2 seconds. Anything attacking will just kill you 2 seconds later, and if you were kiting or running away, Shelter lets the enemies catch up and get on top of you. So not only does Signet heal for over twice what Shelter does, but also allows movement/kiting AND passively removes conditions. Signet is even the same cooldown if youre 0 points into the crit traitline.
Not only are you unable to block with the shield, but the cone on the #4 buff generally requires you to be behind your allies instead of on the front line. The abilities on shield just don’t thematically fit “shield” at all, IMO. I’d love to see shield and focus abilities swapped. Using a cowbell to block and blind is really lame, and so is using a shield to stand in the back and channel.

Didn’t the Asura also try to commit genocide on the Skritt?
