I lost a LOT of respect for Mike O’brien when he posted and specifically named people in order to humiliate, embarrass, and shame them for their opinions. There are a lot of valid, demonstrable reasons why players see HoT as incomplete.

But for a professional to name and shame when Anet’s policy for their own players is not to allow this is just pathetic. And totally unprofessional. He needs to get a grip on his emotions and step back and look at all points of view objectively, politely, and professionally.

I think you should go back and read his post. In no way was he shaming anyone, he was addressing a few peoples specific criticisms. You may have just mis-read it.

I as well do not think Colin will serve to help things at all, it is under his helm that HoT launched low on content. I say give Mike O’Brien an honest chance.

Not feeling as if the expansion has shown $50 worth of content. That coupled with the fact that by buying it I will not get a character slot and instead will get Guild Wars 2 for free (which I already have) and that does no good for me. If nothing is done to remedy this I cannot see myself getting this expansion until it is on sale for $10.

Cheers Arena-Net, I was really looking forward to getting back into the game with this expansion and instead you have basically lost a customer over this.

is this game really that unpopular you can’t find other players from the pool?

Yes, sadly. Good game that’s gone to shambles because of flawed people taking care of it.

Agreed. The current state of spvp is pathetic. I took a break for a year assuming they would be able to bring it into line and balance it to some reasonable level, I would actually say it is worse than ever.

The spvp is so imbalanced it is embarrassing. They have had 3 years to get it in some sort of tournament ready shape and they have done virtually nothing. All of the serious spvp players have long since moved on.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Guild Wars 2 but the current state of spvp is a joke. Full of flavour of the week builds, Turret engie is just another example of it.

Thanks you for the reply but that is not the problem. I have already tried every setting I can. I think an option to turn off this new camera fail mode and go back to something that works should be available. Honestly being in the middle of a puzzle and not being able to see my toon at all no matter what I do after “this fantastic update” No matter what I adjust is just plain stupid. This is a game killer for me . Thanks but no thanks.

You seem to be the only player having the problem you are having and it sounds more like a rendering issue by the way you are describing it “not being able to see my toon at all no matter what I do after” sounds like your gpu is not rendering your toon. Might I suggest updating your graphics drivers. If that is not the problem, why don’t you take a couple of deep breaths and explain it clearly and concisely. If you are not able or willing to do that then revert your camera to default.

In all honesty though collecting feedback from people with poor descriptive skills is a nightmare and I applaud all the good people who have attempted to decipher your post.

As a player since the first beta I definitely feel that frustration as well. At this point I only log on to complete the living story every two weeks and I skip the holiday events all together as they seem to just be recycling last years events at this point with little to nothing added to them. I refuse to purchase anything from the gem store and I provide the game with no revenue what so ever. Since I only log on to do the living story I do not interact with other players any longer (all of the people I know having quit playing long ago) so I do not even act as content for other players.

I can only imagine I have become the antithesis of the player they want, but hey at least I still “play” the game which is more than I can say for anyone else I know. I am awaiting some major changes or an expansion to take the game seriously and as far as the others I used to game with most have stated that even an expansion at this point is unlikely to bring them back.

Arena Net has some of the best artists and personnel in the business but at this point it is painfully obvious that their upper management is absolutely incompetent. It is a sad thing to admit but one only needs to look on the glassdoor site for Anet to see that.

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/ArenaNet-Reviews-E255820.htm

A lot of the people who made Guild Wars 1 the amazingly timeless title that it is have mostly all left the company. Jeff Strain and Patrick Wyatt are gone and the only original founder left is Mike O’Brien which begs the question of how much Mike had to do with Guild Wars 1 success in the first place and if Jeff Strain and Patrick Wyatt had the right idea to distance themselves from NCsoft back in 2009.

Sad to see a sinking ship like Final Fantasy 14 do a complete turn around and become great and move toward it’s first expansion while Guild Wars 2 the golden child that it was languishes. I have said enough, I do not mean to be disrespectful to anyone in particular these are just the thoughts I have running through my head about the game and the company working on it, I know a lot of talented people have poured their heart and soul into this game and it shows. It is just to bad that the people paid to manage the future of Guild Wars 2 have envisioned such a bleak one for it.

Not to mention that they lost their main engine programmers aswell :p

This is also true. I think that the people who have a little more knowledge of what is going on at Arena net are the ones who can see how completely the ball has been dropped by them. All the momentum and good will that Arena net had built over the years has been cashed in at pennies on the dollar.

The game over it’s rather short lifespan has shifted it’s focus away from skilled play to Zerging and being a casual friendly experience. I finally gave up on Arenanet and stopped playing 6 months ago for this very reason.

I am waiting for an expansion or a major (read major not some living story pap) update to shake things up to even think of returning to this game.

I mean in 2012 you could release a game and treat it this way and possibly retain a considerable playerbase but with Steam having blown up the way it has and the influx of innovative indy titles as well as PC being accepted as a serious platform by developers whom previously only targeted the consoles, things have changed. I think if GW2 wants to remain relevant an expansion that hits on all the right notes is truly Arenanets only hope. They can only survive off naive players gem store purchases for so long until even the most easily placated players move onto greener pastures.

That is an interesting concern you bring up here.

Whenever I use Harpy Feathers, i throw a handful (or clawful, im playing Charr! of feathers, blind nearby foes and stealth myself.

It definitely looks like Harpy Feathers are working as intended. Phew, it sure feels good to have shed light on this.

Nightfall, not Nightmares.

Roland Shadow.6192

I just want to start off by saying that this post is not about the problems with the Living Story and its lore. It’s been recently brought to my attention that Bobby Stein has addressed that Arena Net is aware of these problems, and is working towards them. However, we will probably not see changes for months until the next chapter of the Living Story is released.

When you already have something good, don’t mess it up. I guess this is what I’m implying in the title and this post.

Nightfall was the final chapter in the Guild Wars Trilogy. While it had a story of its own, it wrapped up the major loose ends of the saga. This campaign however, was by far the best writing that Arena Net has produced in any release to date. It was built almost entirely from already established lore. It had multiple subplots, and while most concluded at the end, some of them didn’t and are still inconclusive in Guild Wars 2’s time. There was themes such as romance, slavery versus freedom, blindness versus true sight (metaphoric and literally), secrets versus truth, trial and error, and many, many more. These ultimately played with your emotions, really giving you the feeling of immerse in the vast world that Guild Wars was by this time. If Guild Wars Prophesies and Factions were good, Nightfall was fantastic.

That being said, if Arena Net mastered it with Nightfall, why has there been so much disappointment in the Personal Story and Living Story? Granted, there will always be disappointment from some players, but the presence in these two parts of Guild Wars 2 is undeniable. The answer is because they’ve drifted away from the good things that they already had. Not just in lore, but in story design as well. Whether it was from hastily trying to get the game out, budgets, or simply opting to try something different, no one know besides the people in the studio. I certainly don’t, but one thing I do know is that Guild Wars 2 has yet to produce such emotions as the Guild Wars trilogy did for me. The Personal Story had it’s moments, but it didn’t live up to the five years worth of high expectations. The Living Story just feels like a bunch of disjointed plots where some don’t even feel right in the Guild Wars universe to begin with.

So I’m asking Arena Net to please go back to your previous works. Study them, strengths and flaws, and use them to produce the best writing in the Guild Wars universe in the next chapter of the Living World. You really have a great world to work with. Stop trying to change it, and go back to building upon and solidifying it.

So I was sitting in fotm 48 for 3hrs+ we were doing quite fine, last boss at 3rd fractal, and this BR or Spanish group (no offence) started chatting on, and before I knew it I was sitting in LA kicked. It was the asura guy and we kept wiping cos the guardian was not able to kite it.
Ive been away for a few days, and wanted to challenge myself with a fotm run… and i run into these idiots. Not even angry, just shocked at how these people can be so rude. Is there a way to report? I know 1 of the guys in the team. Again, not that of a big deal and I should just move on. But really if its possible I would love to get these guys back.

Anyone had any similar experiences? I would like to know how messed up some people can get.

Wow. Did you forget Anet said that getting the stats you need would be easy? If your going to argue against that I can’t comment against your non-argument.

Again, you are dodging my question. Why do you need the stats? Why do you need the extra couple of points in stats an exotic gives that a masterwork doesn’t also give? What area of GW2 will this unlock for you that you couldn’t get to before without?

You can get all the stats you need for your character’s level via normal course of play from leveling from 1-80. You just want the optimal stats for your character, which is a luxury, a want. Not a need.

I feel like quitting the game due to Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Roland Shadow.6192

Roland Shadow.6192

What I would like to ask the people who say they quit is this:

You complain about Gear treadmills and Grinding and the Ascended Gear,
Can you name ANY mmo that has less of a “Grind” then this game?
Can you name Any mmo that has an easier Gear Treadmill?
Can you name Any mmo that has absolutely NO issues with one weapon being superior over another? (outside of Eve Online [I think.] or Battlestar Galactica online.)

Personally I don’t feel any “grind” in this game is required. I think that is what Anet was talking about in their promises or “no grind” and the Ascended gear is completely unnecessary if you don’t want it. It has NO affect on pvp, maybe a tiny affect on WvW but the circumstances and the fact that you DON’T SIT STILL and that there are conditions and effects like Knock-back and stuns among many other effects make the small difference between exotics Ascended unimportant. Plus, if you feel you arn’t doing enough damage, MAN A ARROW CART OR CANNON or some kind of Siege weapon. Regardless of your gear they always deal heavy damage. Then in pve: if you are doing a lot of damage to enemies in pve and you have full exotics and maybe a couple legendaries then you really don’t need to worry about Ascended Gear if you don’t want it.

Also, one more thing, look at the Stats of the Ascended Gear vs Legendaries.

Another thing, Didn’t the people who say they “Quit” enjoy the game before they heard of ascended gear? the game hasn’t changed one bit, they just added that dungeon and a couple ascended items among other things. Continue to enjoy the game and don’t make a big deal over these little things.

The world I leveled my first character to 80 in no longer exists. With internal design decisions they have funneled characters into the fractals. With increased vertical progression on a per character basis their design decisions have stifled the lower level zones as living zones, now instead of leveling an alt and enjoying the game through the lens of another class populating the rich world with players you have people sitting in Lions Arch spamming LFG FotM lvl XX trying to get a head start on the Ascended Gear treadmill. This leaves the lower zones a barren wasteland compared to what they once were in most if not all servers.

Things like the nerf’s to dynamic events and nerf’s to loot drop have gone further to worsen the problem and further funnel people into the fractals. Various fractals are bugged and either you need to play around the glitches to complete them and there are serious software bugs in some of them that cause the client to crash. If you try to rejoin your group ‘The entire team is kicked’ and all progress on the current fractal is lost.

The lack of group finding tool and the companies previous ignorant stance on the widely adopted feature is more evident to be wrong than ever and now they back peddle and promise to add one in the future. Fighting your way into an overflow and using gw2lfg.com to try and find a group cannot be the intended design structure can it? For the less experienced user who does not know of gw2lfg.com or does not know how to get into an overflow server how must the experience be? (I shudder to think)

The various class bugs that are introduced into the game with each new patch is down right embarrassing. I mean one only needs to look as far as the Mesmer (read: Guild Wars iconic class) to see that the game is all sorts of messed up. That not to mention the constant nerf’s that every class has been subject to since release, which really shows poor form. I think we can all agree buffing of underdeveloped classes is always preferential to nerfing play styles into obscurity.

If Arena Net does not get their act together in the immediate future I would not be surprised to see them follow their publisher’s Seattle offices and undergo some “realignment” of their own.

P.S. – Joining the others unhappy with the current state of the game in not buying gems until the issues I and many other players have noted above are addressed and some plan comes about to sort them out.

tl;dr: Fractals have been poorly implemented and even more poorly handled, lack of group finding tool and subsequent back peddling do little to remedy games current ailments and Area Net had better get their ducks in a row or follow in NC Soft Seattle’s wake with lay off’s of their own. Buy no gems until issues are sorted.

Filling lack of Endgame/Additional Endcontent

Roland Shadow.6192

TheDaiBish, there is plenty of cool stuff in the game for lower levels. Almost an overabundance compared to the paltry amount of content that would be considered “end game”. The thing that would really help is another lvl 80 zone and a complete overhaul of the reward system of the game.

They have open world dungeons why not reward a unique dye for completing them? Or a special weapon skin? Or at least the chance of something interesting or cool, exclusive or meaningful.

The game suffers from the same ill’s of Diablo 3, at a certain point in the game nothing you get is really important except for dungeon tokens and rares above lvl 74 to break down for ecto’s and seems to literally be directing us to the Black Lion Trading Company (Read: Auction house) to make money in the grind to get a legendary, if that is in fact your thing.

The Halloween event is at least a good start in making the game somewhat fun at least for the time being, I just really hope that November content drop has something a little more substantial to offer.

Rollback Update?

Roland Shadow.6192

I think it would go a long way to remediate the problem and help people “move on” as you so quaintly put it, if Arena Net were willing to at least refund the gems (read: Real Money) that people had fraudulently stolen from their accounts by said hackers (read: Criminal low life).

I think it would go along way in restoring a fair share of consumer confidence in Arenanet (Read: You) if you were willing to meet people half way.

I find the lack of information on a time frame for the roll backs to be disheartening to say the least and I find the sly underhanded way of slipping the unhelpful advice to “move on” to be distasteful and inconsistent with the otherwise good treatment of the community you have offered Gaile.

It seems as though the internal sentiments among A-net staffers is “You got hacked? Too bad get over it.” I think if you were to realize that some people invested hundreds of dollars into Gems and in turn when hacked, they did not just loose their time but also the money they had thus far invested in the game. I think it likely if something is not done soon a lot of those who did loose to large a chunk will move on, but it will likely be to another game.

I want to state that I myself was not hacked although a good friend of mine was, I want you to know that my perspective is from that of a long term fan of Arena Net, Mike O’Brien and Patrick Wyatt as well Jeff Strain and have been a staunch supporter of this company since it’s before Guild Wars was subtitled Prophecies.

I am sorry if the tone of this letter comes across as harsh I just want you to think carefully before you address your fans, and know who you are addressing. I wish you the best of luck in your position and I want you to know I think you are quite well spoken and generally you come across as caring and genuine.

No item refunds after hack

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Roland Shadow.6192

Roland Shadow.6192

Same thing happened to one of my best friends. He had just purchased $50 worth of Gems when his account was hacked. Arena Net took 4-5 days to get him his account back, and when he finally did get it back he was stripped of everything. They broke down his Exotics for Ecto’s, stole all of his gold and materials.

Arena Net has basically refused to restore his account or even refund his $50 dollar purchase. I played Guild Wars 1 for years, have all 30 or 40 items associated with the Hall of Monuments and I have been patiently awaiting this game for almost 5 years, but at this point I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone either.

Great game, hindered by the worst customer support in the history of gaming. I really hope Arena Net does a complete 180 on their standpoint on this as they are hemorrhaging good honest money spending players and creating a hotbed for hackers and undesirables. If you ask me that is certainly not good business practice.
