I am still open to the idea but I tend to agree. I think the real mistake was deciding on close range group support, since we already have that. Making this build ’on par
or even slightly better than the existing options will not really change the reception, because after 3 years we were actually hoping for (and promised) a new role.

The truth sometimes comes out with a few words:
I was speaking to a players asking advice about how to play elementalist the other day, in our conversation at one point he said: “My main is a warrior, but I wanted to try a ranged class”.

There it is, the elementalist is a ranged class with some already existing good melee options. It will still remain associated with the Staff as it’s main weapon for most people, because it is how the majority envision a mage with elemental powers.

The main problem with Warhorn lies before all the technical problems people mentioned: [ lack of stability, overloads not worth using, camping attunements counter-intuitive and against arcane traits, shouts overlapping aura share trait, bad elite that doesnt fit the theme, etc. ]

It starts with the concept of making a melee range weapon that has no AoE storm and calling it tempest. I can pretty much guarantee you that what the vast majority of elementalists want is so more ranged variety (we already have 3 melee weapon and only 1 ranged). Basically a new set of staff skills would have been more interesting for all gameplay modes: different aoe control, new storms that are the equivalent of meteor shower, new types of cc and boons, perhaps make condi-staff viable, and elite that does something. Perhaps this could have been accomplished with new traits that extended the range and functionality of the scepter, if the warhorn is equipped.

In my opinion there seems to be something lost between the concept arts for the tempest and the end result, which doesn’t have much range and lack the epicness of large storms. With a name like Tempest almost everyone expected the largest AoE skills in the game.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s almost as like the Tempest was designed with the sword in mind (or vice versa) but for some reason they decided to go with Warhorn/shouts instead.

For me it is quite clear why they dropped sword, Hot is facing major crunch time. So eles got the short end of the stick and got lame warhorn cause

1. Cut down on animations, only have to do 1 with warhorn.
2. Less skills to worry about.
3. Warhorn is easier to balance since it just gives us more of the same as we already have as an ele.

3 being the biggest point since swords would of given us access to a new playstyle that would of needed extensive balance time since we are the hardest class in the game for the anet devs to balance for some reason.

It should be obvious that I join/block/leave to assure I interact as little as possible with those people.

You purposefully interfere with others’ attempts to form their groups, something that impacts you not at all since they are not actively messaging you to join.

You are actively choosing to interact with them (joining their groups) in order to avoid interacting with them despite the fact that they are actively attempting to avoid interacting with you (by advertising the nature of the group so that you know to not join).

I do not wish to ever interact them. In any aspect of the game. In any group. ever. Gear pings, no x class, “no scrubs”, and other such nonsense come from people I wish to not interact with. That sort of “fun” does not mark one a pleasant person.

Just from your tone it seems like you are not a pleasant person yourself, doing these groups a favor it sounds like since i would not want to play with your negative attitude

I dont think you got kicked for playing a d/d ele. I run mine in pugs and dont have any problems. You where mostly likely running pvt or cleics gear or just using bad traits and rotations and got kicked for it. Where not stacking might if there was no PS warr for example. Ele is one of the most wanted classes in a party for pve so you got to screw up real bad to get kicked.

True, Ele weapon swap would be pretty OP. I guess I’m just a bit miffed at the range argument.

What about using Staff + conjured hammer, or D/D + conjured bow (I believe it’s also a popular build)?
You even have a midrange weapon with the greatsword.

Seriously, weaponswap gives access to 2 WS sets, Elementalist can access 3 with conjured weapon, plus 4 more with attunements.

Never happy.

Whoever put this conjur nonsense into to peoples heads need to be beaten lol. Even got engies comparing them to kits, getting out of hand.

Well, if I’m going to play a female character, I don’t exactly want her wearing male clothes. This issue is exactly why I haven’t made an asura . Not asking for skimpy stuff for asura (and charr) , though, just some diversity between outfits on different genders for the race.

Then you would not be an asura or a charr if you wanted gender diversity since there race does not follow our idea of gender separation at least for clothing

D/D ele has 600 range in water attunement with their auto attack.
D/D ele, let alone D/F ele, is much less locked into melee than either.

Water auto hit like a wet noddle, you can sit there with the regain buff with 0 healing power and outheal the water auto. Also you are not going into water for dmg, water atun is for recovering ether for coandi clear or for heals. You wont even touch the auto. Also you are very vulnerable once water goes on CD so you are not just going into it willy nilly.

You lose pretty lose 100% effectiveness as a D/D ele outside of melee.

Staff ele has 1200 range, but none of their attacks are reduced in effectiveness due to being in close range, and if you don’t have an ally to keep the enemy pinned down, it’s usually easier to keep the enemy within your fields where they’ll take the most damage from your persistent area effects if you stay close by the fields yourself to keep melee enemies in the fields. So when you can’t simply play artillery at long range, a staff ele can fight quite effectively at close ranges.

Any staff ele that is fighting a close range is a dead staff ele. That you are completely brain dead. All there there tools are made to keep you away (stack field – Unsteady ground) or put distance, (burning retrete). You are either going to get your long channel times interrupted or get you super slow attacks blinded or blocked. So again just like a d/d ele you effectiveness falls to almost 0 outside of you effective range as a staff ele.

The main DPS skill of revenant hammer, Coalescence of Ruin, does half damage if the enemy is in the 0-400 range bracket (which they usually will be unless the enemy is using long-range attacks themselves or you have an ally to keep them distracted) compared to when the enemy is in the 800-1200 bracket.

Both elementalist staff and scepter are much less range-locked than the revenant hammer. Sure, they’re not as effective as melee weapons in close range, but at least they don’t lose effectiveness like revenant hammer does.

God that sound just like a staff or d/d ele. Again you functionally lose all effectiveness outside of you range set just like the rev does not from what we have seen from the partial class

This is all more pvp focused talk though. PVE being ranged locked it a non issue for the content.

Do any of you even play an ele, some of the misconceptions about the class are so off base it is astounding. Dont try and compare two classes when you have 100% no idea how one of the classes works. God that some of you latched onto the conjors idea is too funny.

A d/d ele and a staff ele are just as ranged locked as a rev(the class is not even complete yet) and they both work.

I get it, you might be newer and want to experience the dungeon, but most of us have been running this content for years. Stacking is immediate default because most people want to get in and out. When you have run these things thousands of times like a lot of us have you are just using them as an ends to a means. And as for Lumi armor, it is intended for the achievements to be required. That is what makes it special for some people, you have to earn it along with getting all the scavenger hunt items . Anet did not want you to just farm gold/badges in the SW and buy it.

You guys keep claiming that casuals are being mean and trying to deny that hard content should be rewarding, but it’s mostly because ‘the hardcores’ keep trying to take rewards away from casual content. Nobody’s really after equality, everybody wants a leg up on everyone else, and nobody’s willing to admit that the casual guy’s two hours a week should be just as lucrative for him as two hours out of the week of the hardcore guy’s twenty, all things being equal.

Yes there are some people who want to casuals to make nothing but i think that is just minority. Even in this thread if you look there is a lot of people just asking for equality in the content profit.

My position is this

Take armor skins for example, 99% of them are available through relatively casual play. Now say anet makes a nice and exclusive armor set for say the hard content that we are supposed to get for HOT. Say not everyone can do that content for how hard it is, i guarantee a lot of the casuals would go bat kitten crazy for the fact that they might not be able to earn that skin cause they cant/ wont put the time in to learn the hard content. It needs to be available to them even though there are plenty of other skins they could get. It is not “fair” that they cant have that one set. How is it not ok for the hardcores to have there small bit of exclusivity.

The problem with this game is not easy vs difficult content, it’s rewards.

Personally, I don’t care so much about rewards as much as being satisfied in putting forward the effort to accomplish something significant. There are also existing avenues in the game to great rewards. An example of this is World Bosses, they can give some of the best loot in the game, despite being some of the most uninspired encounters also. So no, I disagree that that is the apex issue

It may not be the apex of the issue but it’s certainly a major point in it.

Doing something for the challenge at the moment is a significant blow to your GPH for next to no unique rewards.

I think most of us can agree (I would say I think we can all agree, but I know full well someone will disagree) that the Silverwastes is in hindsight a poorly designed area for extended use. It single handily makes every other piece of PvE content feel less rewarding and makes doing a challenge less appealing.

I.E
Siverwastes:
- Top GPH (outside of TP playing, Gem conversion)
-Rains obby shards
-Best way to farm the pieces for bolts of damask
- wide range of guarenteed unique rewards for bandit crests
-Also gives zep keys for amberite skins
-karma for other skins
-Requires no skill at all.
-Makes no distinction for individual ability (you can’t solo a single wolf vs a player who can down 6 at once, both end up with the same reward).
-Guaranteed success

Fractal 50:
-No Guaranteed reward out side of 1.5g~
-Very small pool of unique rewards for fractal currency
-High skill required
-not guaranteed success

From a purely game-play perspective it makes next to no sense to do an hour of fractals vs an hour of Silver-wastes farming. Fun alone doesn’t motivate for extended periods of time

For me I don’t care if the braindead content is rewarding. Let the casuals have there gold. I just want the hard content to be just as rewarding but for some reason that is just the hanis of sin. Hard content is not alowed to be rewarding finacilly. Like imagine if atherpath and fotm 50 had the same profit lvl at Sw.

You just need to move on, Anet has said that it would of been a lot of extra work, maybe scrap there whole system to help fringe cases like you. This is an MMO, sometimes things dont go your way in a change when you are in the extreme minority. Even more so during a pre expansion patch.

I really hope this is just smoke and mirrors by anet. To get a lame warhorn as our release elite would be beyond sad.

Just look at the two types of reactions to what we may be getting. Swords where generally good and a few people where just ecstatic.

by that number most games should have at least one lgbt character, and MMOs should have many more, considering how many characters are there in the game.

this is precisely the type of double standard attitude that just reflects blatant homophobia disguised as something else.
“leave reality behind” but has no trouble with a game that has war, poverty, murder, betrayal, cruelty, etc…
but when there’s a gay couple or a trans character or anything lgbt related, then it’s some sort of “agenda” and “shoved down their throats” no matter if heterosexuality has been “shoven down” OUR throats time after time.

Depending on the study but on average 2 to 7% of people identify as LGBT. So the fact that most games dipict the norm for upwards of 90% of people is shoving it down your throat. God shame on games for doing that.

Agreed. They should remove all mentions of heterosexuality from the game, the game was better when it didn’t have that stuff. It’s pushing the heterosexual agenda.

How do you remove all heterosexualy from the game, delete every race that is not sylvari. Guess anet could add a robot race as well to give people some options. Limit yourself real bad though since most races as we know them kinda need heterosexuality to have a functioning society.

With Conjors getting gutted i hope scepter gets a buff on the PVE side. That auto need to get looked at or scepter is usless for PVE without LH.

RTL need teh CD brough way down back to the 25s-20s lvl. It was dumb nerf before and it even more so now that all skill are like it.

In tier 1 it is not that big of a problem. If you are constantly running pin snipe you will probably get ridiculed not only by your opponents but by your own fellow servers guilds. Pin snipping is not looked very highly upon as it just ruins fights and makes them generally unfun. Super chessy. I guess in the lower teir it could be a problem though as the wvw communities are not as developed.

So after watching the stream pretty much all ele specs are going to have like a 0% chance against a reaper. You are basically locked out of attunement swapping and an ele that cant swap is as good as dead. Kinda harsh that we are the only class that can have our class mechanic countered to such a degree.

Please state you reasons as to why you believe downstate and conquest do not fit GW2.

My opinion is that GW2 is just not a game focused around pvp, and when it was launched it didn’t have much pvp advertising.

I played for 1 and a half years without pvping and boy was i missing out on something.

I never said they dont fit in GW2, they are just reasons it would and never will be an esport.

And i dont know where you where but a huge push for the dev team back in the day was to make GW2 the next League of Legends in terms of being the next thing. It crashed and burned hard but was a big point for them at the time back at launch. Whole reason we have conquest is they thought it would be a better esport.

How come gw2 is not popular in esports?

I already got one legendary the hard way and I’m happy about this, looks like getting them will be both easier and more fun.

See i have feeling a lot of people think this and are going to be dispirited when HOT comes out. Wooden potatos said it best “IF you dont like grinding out a pre now you are still not going to like grind one in HOT”

Stealth is very hard to balance in wvw, in pvp it is actually a very balanced ability in that it is kept in check by conquest mode. All the stealth shenanigans you want to pull can have a very heavy cost but in wvw that opportunity cost is just not there to counterbalance it and is just very frustrating and unfun.

With the new pvp map though in HOTS not being conquest though we might see some of the balance bleed through to wvw since anet does not really care about wvw balance.

T1 is the place to be if you dont enjoy looking 10min+ for a fight.

You can keep your 100+ ques. I’m on FA now and I just can’t even bother with it being so close to crossing over tiers.

Where is this tier, I am on tier 1 and i have not seen 100 man ques in a verrrrrrrrrrrrrry long time. Hell on reset i can get onto almost any map, the one that has the big fight might be qued but the rest are open. Those servers above tier 1 are just so overcrowded by the sound of it.

Raids would be a major feature. They claim they have already announced all major features of HoT. Thus, it’s highly unlikely that Raids are coming.

fact is, if they are working on a raid, it probably wouldnt be ready when the expansion launches.

The question OP posted was about Raids being part of HoT. So, you seem to agree, that they won’t be, right?

for me, HoT isnt only the launch of the expansion. its also what will come after launch.

I hope not. I did WoW for almost 10 years. I’m done with raiding, thank you.

raid content doesnt mean they will delete every other content in the game.

This game is mostly about vanity. I don’t want anything to drop in a 10+ man raid that doesn’t drop anywhere else because I will never be able to get it. I despise organised large group content. I have done it enough times to just not like it anymore.

So cause you dont want it no one else should be able to earn a raid skin, I mean it is not like 99% of the other skin in this game are almost handed to you. Totally unfair that they would have one skin that required some work to get.

I sure as hell hope so. Exploring isn’t really my thing. And no matter how much i love it, pvp tends to get stale. Fractals are awesome but this game is so perfect for 10 – 20 man raids.
-With no trinity you don’t have to worry about whatever class you decide to take.
-With no gear tread it opens up to a lot of people without baring half of your playerbase

With no trinity you also get raids that are a lot less mechanically impressive. Everything has to be watered down since a lot of the raid designs cant be done with a everyone does everything style. Look at raids in wildstar, wow, and other raid biased games and they are just worlds apart from what gw2 has shown us for pve so far. If they do put raids though i hope they impresses us and arnt world bossed 2.0

I knew they where going to be bad but seeing them on everyone just makes them worse. They look like a card-bored cut outs they are so stiff and static. That and the clipping with them being so big.

IMO they lack polish, they where going to sell like hotcakes anyways so it does not matter. I normally like the art style of gw2 so i am a little disappointed

I think there’s some pretty needless aggression towards people who find value skins needing to be earned (especially in a game where aesthetics are the endgame), and that’s from someone who doesn’t care if these are gem store or not. Wanting rewards for your efforts is perfectly reasonable, just as wanting to be able to buy them is. Having differing opinions on this is no need for hostility.

That aside, I hope that this skin (and the wings that I assume will follow it) overwrites your glider skin. So that you actually use the wings to glide if you have them equipped. Having wings that big, but using a glider instead, would look weird.

I agree, seems lot of people have no problem jumping on the fifthly “elitist” for even hinting that a skin should take any kinda effort to get yet act so scandalized for them dare even mentioning it. Makes me shake my head at the double standards some people seem to have.

As for the wings it nice that anet is putting in something that i know a lot of people have been wanting. I dont think i will getting them as i dont want to be one of the masses of bird people that are going to be running around. Cramp my style running around looking like a clone of everyone else xp.

Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

It works. I don’t mean to burst A-Net’s bubble with the whole, “ground shaking” idea of removing the trinity, but there’s a reason why every MMO uses it. It’s not as frustrating as every mob being uncontrollable; since, with no tank I guess that’s what A-Net wants. As a thief, it is very frustrating to have a boss turn around and one shot you in a split second. Everything PvE oriented is uncontrolled, and very badly structured.

This lack of holy trinity accounts for the reason why the endgame of GW2 is so bad. Raids for example are not feasible since it would be too hectic, and not very fun. Dungeons are the farthest you get, even then as a melee you’d be constantly hopping back to dodge a backswing, that you might as well re-roll Mesmer.

I don’t know about others, but while forming groups for dungeons there is always a need of a tank, A-Net will never officially take away the trinity anyways, guardians will always be there for tanking. As a thief, will always NOT tank.

With the holy trinity everything is controlled and theres no “WTF” unless it’s your fault because you didn’t move out of the bad. WoW’s endgame is very much so superior to GW2’s, and will forever be, unless some sort of trinity is occurring. And GW2 will always be inferior for this reason.

The Holy Trinity works but it doesn’t mean we don’t need something new.

As you can probably see already, a lot of people hate the holy trinity. Personally, I hate it because it wrecks build diversity (no need to consider other options other than your primary role) and that it restricts what a developer can put into a fight (there always has to be a tank, a healer, and a DPS, so you can’t just have a fight where say, the party has to split up into 5 to fight 5 mini-bosses because then it just doesn’t work).

You have must have never of played end game raids in WOW, there are many fight that have to have the group break up to accomplish multiple objectives. As for which type of game play restricts the developers just looks at the two end games and it is easy to see which one is more delvers.

Well why did jq not get the world first teq kill, clearly you dont have as many pvers as BG.

JQ i think it is kinda sad, you have SOR at your beck and call and are still doing poorly. I was hoping we at least have to work this week to try and get first.
