Skill Balance coming!

in Thief

Sneek.6504

Probably damage nerf to some skill(s)/trait(s), and in order to compensate for the damage loss some skill/trait that is never used gets a 2½ seconds of swiftness on activation.

Some mechanical, not well reasoned change that will render something useful into “why would I ever use this” -realm.

Some meaningless buff to traps.

Probably a big buff to sword. After the dust has settled and people have accustomed themselves with the rebirth of sword main hand in various game types, it will be nerfed again.

Why the hell isnt there a reward system for ascended in WvW. Its the only game mode I play. Not like pvp players need ascended.

Maybe they like your tears,
Or maybe it has something to do with you getting non-price-balanced ascended boxes as random rewards already.

Just chiming in to tell that I’m a tad under 700 ranks and I have never had a ascended weapon/armor box drop in wvw, not as loot, nor as rank reward.

Champion Mordrem Mangler

Sneek.6504

Heh, my last run of last night, someone yelled the Copper champ no aoe myth, and it still just amazes me that with all the guides out there, people still believe that.

Its no Myth! I have watched his health rise from 50% back to 75%. Worse when it just hangs at 50% and everyone start the debate of AoE or no. Check out Champion Mordrem Husk Copper under behavior.

Offshoot:
“Abilities
Movement speed decreased by 50%; stacks duration. Crippled
Inflicts Deals damage every second; stacks intensity. Bleeding
Heals Allies On Death1”

Poison Bubbles Large and Small:
“Abilities
Heals Allies When Popped

Can it be countered? Yes, absolutely. These days however the counter is less often and discussing it while trying to take him down usually ends in a failure

It is also true there are a great number of new players in SW who do not know what to do or do not have the ability to give someone else ideas a try (after all every one is right 100% of the time).
Agreed, many are not reaching or attempting to reach the cone of safety.
Agreed, many are not killing pustules.

It has been a long time since I have seen SW fail, it is happening more and more. I thought I would never see another South Lane of SW fail, but I was wrong! All we can do is try to guide others

You forgot the fine print on the wiki.

The large bubbles move on their own towards the boss and pop on their own when they are within range of the boss. If it went from 50% to 75% then that means nobody bothered to destroy the bubbles before they were close enough. 50% to 75% would be approximately 12 bubbles all near the boss. The offshoots apply regeneration which only stacks in duration not intensity.

Also, what ppl mix up with the bubbles healing and the offshoots regen is resetting. If no one gets down the pit and just range from the pits edge, copper may reset at some point and goes up in HP really fast, probably to 100% or near 100% as someone gets him aggroed again.

Usually then ppl start pointing fingers and telling that someone used too much aoe

Is Beserker Warrior too OP for the pvp?

in PvP

Sneek.6504

Tell me about it.

I had a horrific experience with these OP warriors.

I went to pvp and the match was about to start. To my dismay, I noticed the enemies had 5 OP WARRIORS. One of my team mates said “oh no…” to which another one replied “what?”, but before the first one could reply AN OP WARRIOR jumped in our spawn point and cut his throat with eviscrate. The match hadn’t even started. I started wailing in horror as 4 MORE OP WARRIORS jumped in from the roof. It was slaughter. I only survived because of sheer luck as my other team mates got slain over and over and over again.

Finally the match started and I managed to escape our spawn and I hid at their spawn curled into a ball. I could still hear the screams of agony. As the match was about to finish I heard running steps coming towards me. I was hoping it was one of the escaping team mates of mine, but alas, it was AN OP WARRIOR. I tried to hide even better. At first he didn’t see me. I stayed as still as possible. He was about to leave. Out of the blue sky he suddenly shouted and I was revealed. He let out another fearsome shout and dashed towards me. I prayed to dwayna. Once again I was saved by sheer luck and the match ended and I was teleported back to the mists.

I could finally breathe normally. I hailed and hugged everyone, joyfully. I had never been as happy as I was at that moment. Strangely enough, everyone was quiet. I noticed everyone was staring at something. I turned my back and the happiness I was feeling turned into dust. 5 OP WARRIORS stood before me ready to slash. I only had time to say “oh no…”

Honestly about elite specs...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sneek.6504

Sneek.6504

With this said, to be able to unlock the elite specialization you only need 60 points, which isn’t that much, so you can still experience the new specialization by mixing the olds ones with the new ones.

Err have you played HoT? No one wants to use a kitten 60pt whatever intro spec. Especially in this difficult HoT content. You’d be 2/3rds of a character.

Yes I’m playing HoT and enjoying the new specializations, No one wants to start a game at level 1 either, maybe we should all start at level 80..

When you start a game at level one you are facing level one opponents. Starting an elite spec means being effectively sub level 80 while facing post level 80 content.

That was not even the point, the point was before you can reach level 80 you need time to reach it, the elite specialization is no different that is why it is called elite, there is nothing preventing you from using your old build to unlock 2 or 3 masteries to be able to reach the new hero points, and then start building the elite specialization.

It’s the same logic as anything else, before you can start bulding new gear you use the older gear.

So you say people should just run around with 2 and a half trait lines when most bosses will just one or two shot you? When the map was designed for lvl 80 in a decent gear? Hot is not where you’re supposed to level so please don’t compare it to starting as a lvl one when everything you’ll face there will be weak lvl ones, too. Didn’t see any mobs with just half of their skills in Hot, yet.

I don’t think you read what i said.. actually i said quite the opposite, i said that you can use your current build to enjoy the new content.

The new Elite Specialization is no different from anything else, before you can fully enjoy it you will need to put some time and effort.

That’s why I think it’s a flaw in design, we get these awesome new elite specs but at the same time we are discouraged to use them until they are fully powered (especially with DD, which is poop at its starting state). Doesn’t that sound stupid?

Unlocking the spec requires us to do HoT content, unless you want to suffer through grinding wvw, which leaves less content for our fully powered elite spec to play with. As many players, me included, want their elite spec unlocked as fast as possible, it steers them into hunting hero points with our old boring builds.

Would you rather have this current system or enjoy the new content and the new full elite spec right of the bat in your own terms and pace?

Vertical zone... comments?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sneek.6504

Sneek.6504

I do like exploring, but I’d rather do it on my own terms, not by frantically seeking locked behind content, be it accessing full power of the elite specialization via hero points, unlocking masteries or just trying to find the next story step.

Unlocking the elite spec is even worse with daredevil as the “elite mechanic” aka third (modified) dodge is locked behind GM traits, which basically means I’m better off using 3 core specs until I have unlocked everything from the elite spec. It is bad design.

The aforementioned combined with the maze-like vertical maps filled with multiple dead ends, mastery locked stuff, unreachable hero points and way points and finally the “you cannot progress or move on until you have ended this event” type of events made the first touch with the new content rather frustrating.

To not sound like negative nancy, I did like the story.

Sneek.6504

The most glaring issues with this specialization are the cast times/aftercasts. In particular, the evasions that are available need attention pretty badly. Bound has a terrible aftercast that roots you in place every time you land, and there’s a slight pause before both dash and impaling lotus that make them feel unresponsive. Dash in particular has a poor animation, which often changes the way your character is facing when you use it, unlike regular evasions.

My biggest suggestion for the spec is to give dash the regular evasion animation, but with the increased distance and flashier effects. I hate to use the word clunky, because it’s been used so many times in this thread already, but that’s really the best word to describe how it feels when you use it.

Overall, none of the animations feel smooth enough. Weakening Charge is probably the biggest offender, there’s a pause before you spin, and there’s a horribly long aftercast — honestly, if you want people to use this thing you need to make it feel like a regular, non-daredevil evasion. Debilitating Arc feels like a throwaway skill that doesn’t really fit the playstyle. If you want it to fill the role of a disengage, it should feel more like Roll For Initiative (only dealing damage with not as much range). I honestly have no idea why Dust Strike has such a long cast time. The whole point of using blinds on a thief is that you’re reacting to specific, high-damage attacks, and unless that attack is longer than 3/4 seconds this is another throwaway skill. Vault is another skill that has way too long of a cast time.

The elite skill is the only new skill that I’ve put an actual effort into trying to use, and it isn’t good. Maybe I just need to learn to use it, but I haven’t landed all three hits in a single team fight or scenario where the person I was using it on wasn’t already downed. None of the other utilities were good enough to consider taking over what’s already available. Like, I don’t know why the devs seem so afraid of making really powerful utility skills on these elite specializations, every single utility is just so underwhelming compared to what we’ve been running for years. The physical skills seem cool and all but you have to design this stuff with the understanding that, if you want me to use a new physical skill, it’s going to require taking something like Shadowstep or Shadow Refuge off my bar, which is to say, it has to be incredibly good.

These are exactly my feelings as well. The new gm dodges are each aforementionedly clunky in some way. Staff doesn’t feel as convenient as other melee sets and personally I feel staff skills lack synergy among themselves. I found myself fighting not to weapon swap as I wanted to learn and figure out how to get better with the staff, but the clunky feeling overshadows it too much. I may need more practice though.

Physical skills are nice and fun to use, some more than the others, but are they good enough to take over some of the good ol’ ones? I feel they are a bit too situational and the melee ones are really hard to land, even with cast+steal or cast+infi signet combo.

With so much new stuff: traits, new weapons skills, new class etc, I think it’s fair to assume that things will be at least a bit out of balance for a while after the release of HoT.

That being said, will the players be getting more frequent balance passes after the expansion? Would you prefer to do more frequent small balance patches [let’s say once per 1-2 month(s)] or continue doing larger ones, but more sparsely (twice a year)?

Cost Of Crafting Ascended Heavy Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sneek.6504

Sneek.6504

I have 2 sets each of heavy, medium and light Armour in ascended and I don’t think it cost me anywhere near those figures Ayrilana with all due respect – it all depends on how much mats you gather. I buy some and gather others. I also have about 15 – 20 weapons in ascended. I have Grand Artisan status as have been crafting for over 2 years.

My gripe is that ascended equipment is not treated like all other items up to exotic – you can’t sell them (only a few mats) , you can’t give them to your wife which she would like and she can’t give me all the mats I need to make her stuff but has to destroy them. Empyreal fragments still take time collect even with the drop rate in silver wastes. Drop rates of mats for other things seemed to have decreased in recent days.

Pricing on the TP bears no relationship to cost in most cases. There are some inconsistencies here and there.

Gathering mats doesn’t make those mats “free” when computing for the total cost to craft something.

This. While I crafted my ascended armor pieces with cheap linen (42c a piece) I bought before the ascended armor patch, that doesn’t mean there’s no opportunity cost involved. Instead of crafting I could have gotten nice profit in gold.

Ah now I see it, the new thief specialization will be Lootbag. Increased chance of loot for the enemies who defeated you. New GM traits will increase mf for the enemies by 500%, increase precursor drop rate by 1000% and last one gives out gold from the thief’s wallet by random amount.

Now to be serious, it’s horrible if the z-axis nerf goes through. Even more horrible, if those gap closer nerfs go through. S/* builds will take a huge hit in every game type.

However, that all being said, while I see dark days for the thief in the near future (especially in pvp), there’ll be a new class, specializations, boon, cc and condi, which means balance will be messed up for a long time anyway

If using a teleport skill it doesn’t activate properly and after the lagspike is over I am teleported back and forth a few times until settling.

I get alot of freezing also, and after the lagspike is over everything happens fast at once until I freeze again in less than a minute and the same happens. I disconnect every now and then after a lagspike (usually at least 2-3 times a day), and logging back in might take several minutes or I cannot login at all.

Sometimes the lagging and disconnecting stops for an hour or so but then starts again.

I’m experiencing the exact same issues since the latest patch, especially on Silverwastes. Am also in Finland, but playing on Ring of Fire. Can’t even login as of now.

[Suggestion] News and Announcements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sneek.6504

Sneek.6504

Dear Gaile, other devs or other A-net employees, and/or other forumites, sometimes there comes a time, when a man wants to have a drunken ramble, at 5 am, about communication and the means of delivering the news of mmorpg.

Worry not, I’ll be constructive and I’ll try to stay on topic as much as I can. These are my opinions and other people may feel differently.

First thing I would like to quote Gaile:

I think what you’re suggesting is that we have a dedicated page in the News and Announcements Forum that listed external updates: a blog post here, an interview there, that sort of thing? So you’re thinking public information provided elsewhere might be gathered in a sticky post in that forum?

Yes. In fact, every newsworthy item should posted in most portals if not all of them. And they should be all archived in the news & announcements forums. With open discussion enabled, meaning every newsworthy item should have its own thread. Like my fellow forumite, Guhracie, said many interesting things, whether it be important to a player or not, get buried in the forums, or in the worst case doesn’t get mentioned at the forums at all.

Many news, many promotions & sales, many interviews, many things, in fact most of the news I get second hand even though I am an active forum reader myself. This isn’t a bad thing itself, I know, as everyone doesn’t use the forums, but let’s say I had a 2 month break and I wanted to know what’s been happening during the break. I would have to basicly comb through endless amounts threads and reddit posts. Thats why archiving news in a known, separated, chronologically logic, uncluttered place, like the news and announcement forums, would be a good thing.

I mentioned that every newsworthy item should be posted in every news portal. And I mean everything. Hotfix changes, free bl items, that interesting (newsworthy) dev post in the 25th page of that really interesting thread.

Why everywhere? Why everything? Because I hate missing out. I tend to read most of the things I see carefully, unless I know what it’s telling me, or I’m in a hurry. Sometimes when I log in, I may not read the news in the start panel. I don’t use facebook, I don’t use twitter, (I know I’m a minority here), but if the news were organised in the news & announcements forum, I know I could ALWAYS find the newest items there.

Remember that set of those nailbiter pvp matches between Made in Meta and The Civilized Gentlemen few weeks ago? I loved those matches and I’m not even interested in pvp. It was linked to me by my friend and the link, I think, was in a news article, but I’m having a really hard time finding it again to show to other people.

The news in the frontpage are chronologically organised, but I think it’s a bit laborious to go through (especially when trying to find something specific without decent knowledge) and has some room for improvement.

Anything newsworthy that gets mentioned in facebook or twitter should also be mentioned should also be mentioned in the front page and game start panel, and therefore also archived in the news and announcements forum as a thread, whether it be something big, or even if it’s slightly silly. All this with open discussion in the thread.

As my beverages are running out, I’m running out of words to contribute this thread. I’ll check this post at morning for spelling mistakes and such. Good morning, good evening and good night o/

First one I remember was last year, in january, before the grenade barrage was nerfed. It took me by complete surprise to get magnet pulled and took somewhere around 26k dmg from the barrage.

Second time I was chasing a squishy rifle warrior and he started to reload kill shot. I was smashing him, figuring that I would dodge the kill shot. Again, suddenly, I was magnet pulled and instantly downed by combination of 3k pry bar and 12,5k killshot.

Third and fourth time were quite similar, getting instantly downed by fiery whirl against a bridge barrier in 3rd by an ele and phantasmal berserker by a mesmer in 4th. Both did well over 10k dmg if I recall correctly

I can already see this being op.

Also before you ask: Thief racials are op so I didn’t put one.

Perfect build. I like to sometimes use smoke screen instead of that scorpion wire because it’s powerful. I like how you left the elite empty, just goes to show how insanely powerful this build is.

EDIT: I just noticed those doubloons, so OP

idk with you but the .25 isn’t exactly .25 I seem to be there a full second…

I don’t know if it’s the skill queue system, general lag or both, but yeah, it feels quite sluggish, clumsy at the moment. S/d lost some flow with it. Anyone else experiencing the same feeling?
