Ok so… I know I’m going against the group for the most part here… Here is the deal. I agree that exclusivity of skins within the game should be based upon accomplishing difficult or arduous tasks. That said, threads of this type pop up EVERY time the original Halloween skins pop up as a topic. I think that out of all the skins that have come out in this game that aren’t achievement or task based, these should have been exclusive. The reasoning I have for this is because they were the skins from the very first event GW2 ever had… You may call me as having special snowflake syndrome but I take great pride in the fact I was there since the beginning and I have the skins from the first event. It shows my dedication to the game.
What about me then?
I pre-purchased GW2 on the very first day it was available, I’ve been playing since the first beta and played the game since release without a break longer than a week or so.
But I don’t have a Halloween skin.
Is that because I’m not as “dedicated” as people who do? I chose not to waste real money gambling on virtual items, which means I never had a chance at getting one of those skins (except by buying them from the TP) and certainly never felt required to do so simply to meet the arbitrary requires of other players looking for an excuse to judge those around them.
(Besides which the Halloween skins were never intended to work that way – they’d already covered that base with the ridiculous Celebration Hat. Unless of course you weren’t there to get one and have to tell yourself what’s essentially the first set of Black Lion weapon skins is the same thing because it’s all you could get.)
awwwwww sorry… you chose not to spend the money to get them then… and now are upset you don’t have them? are you serious? lololol
2) How is comparing premium discontinued item versus premium discontinued car a bad analogy? Nullifying your second point
This was already explained. Nullifying your point.
3) Why is it so bad that the players that supported the game from the beginning… that helped fund the game via the gem store during that first event… that they have stuff exclusive to them for said long term support?
Why does the fact that they bought in earlier entitle them to special rewards? Not to mention that everyone who bought the game supported Anet, and you didn’t have to buy in at launch to be a “long term supporter” at this point anyways.
It’s not special snowflakism… it just what is right because we have been supporting the game since launch and you haven’t.
It’s “right” that you get exclusive access to things just because you picked up the game earlier? That’s utterly ridiculous. You got the game earlier, so you got a headstart on getting up and running and enjoying the game. Why should you also get further ingame rewards?
4) And again… I’m sure car collectors would feel the same way… I guess that makes them special snowflakes and elitists too huh?
And again, the car collector analogy is absolutely terrible. Not only that, but most car people I know would be ecstatic at the opportunity to get more people/new blood into the scene since having more people around who enjoy similar things creates a big community. Still, not relevant at all here.
5) Anet pandering to the vocal minority will ruin this game… and bc of said pandering, particularly in this case they have lost my SUBSTANTIAL financial support via the gem store… hope they are happy pleasing the $5 a month spending casuals…
And you have… what to back up the fact that it’s a “vocal minority” requesting that these skins are readded to the game? Oh right, nothing?
And it’s kind of sad that you’re letting the fact that other people get skins and you no longer get to be special completely ruin the game for you. Like, being the exclusive king of skins in a game is so important to you?
Again I am not understanding how comparing one type of discontinued item to another is a poor analogy…
In regards to buying the game earlier entitling me to special rewards… that is not what I said… The Halloween skins were EXTREMELY rare BL chest drops. That means you had to spend a ton of money on keys to get the ones you wanted. That means I was there… for the first event and showed my support for their creative devlopment in the early days (the most crucial ones) financially well beyond the cost of the initial game purchase.
Your poor attempt at validating your point regarding car collectors has one fatal flaw… They would NEVER want new blood at the cost of devaluing their own collectible vehicles…
Just look at statistics for how gaming forums are the vocal minority in the gaming world… The majority of people who go on to forums do so in order to complain. Hence the inherent negativity of the majority of posts. It has been like that for every game since online game and critical forums first came about. There are exponential amount more of people who just play a game and have no problem with the status quo, therefore yes… whiny forum users who complain about wanting this that and the other are the vocal minority in ALL gaming communities…
Ummmm because you weren’t there?
Why does that matter? I wasn’t there for SAB originally, either, but I went ahead and did the content to earn the rewards when they brought it back recently. It’s perfectly fair.
Let me use an analogy… You want to buy a corvette when you are 20 but you don’t have enough money. You are now 40 and want to get the same Corvette… but wait… it’s been discontinued and now classic… You can find it on a secondary market for a premium price… Wat do you think Chevy would do if you asked them to re release the model?
That’s a really, really poor analogy; it’s not a car, it’s a virtual item. Having the MF drop tables altered is a fair bit different from having Chevy redo their production lines to make new 1960 Corvettes.
The principle is the same… you weren’t there or couldn’t afford it… sorry for ya…
Except for there being no real reason for it to be “you were there or you’re kittened” besides your desire to be a special snowflake because you jumped in at the start.
Do you go to car shows and call collectors special snowflakes or elitists because they have a car you want?
No, I called you a special snowflake because you’re so defensive of being one of the few with the skins. It’s pretty much a textbook example of special snowflakeism.
I don’t even want any of these rereleased skins. It’s just fair that everyone has a chance to earn them in some shape or form. There’s no reason to prevent people from earning them just because they didn’t happen to be playing the game at a given time.
Not everyone can have everything nor should they… get over it
Apparently anet thinks otherwise. “Get over it”.
I agree on the idea that not everyone should have everything, but when it comes to things like skins in this game, yes, everyone should have the chance to earn them (reasonably; having to pay 3500g for something because the supply hasn’t been replenished in years is ridiculous).
1) SAB was always meant to return… they just broke it in an update… Nullifying point one of yours
2) How is comparing premium discontinued item versus premium discontinued car a bad analogy? Nullifying your second point
3) Why is it so bad that the players that supported the game from the beginning… that helped fund the game via the gem store during that first event… that they have stuff exclusive to them for said long term support? 5) Anet pandering to the vocal minority will ruin this game… and bc of said pandering, particularly in this case they have lost my SUBSTANTIAL financial support via the gem store… hope they are happy pleasing the $5 a month spending casuals…
Why? What reasoning is there behind that statement?
Ummmm because you weren’t there? Let me use an analogy… You want to buy a corvette when you are 20 but you don’t have enough money. You are now 40 and want to get the same Corvette… but wait… it’s been discontinued and now classic… You can find it on a secondary market for a premium price… Wat do you think Chevy would do if you asked them to re release the model?

Not everyone can have everything nor should they… get over it
And again… a testament of Anet pandering to the vocal minority of the whiny forums…
Because voicing your desire to have the ability to acquire a skin in the game makes you a “whiner”. Wanting to have the opportunity to earn skins is completely reasonable and I have yet to see a reasonable argument as to why people shouldn’t be able to earn them if they can.
If the skins were just being handed out that would be one thing, but that’s not the case.
Because no offense… if you weren’t actually there at the first event in the HISTORY of GW2… honestly… you shouldn’t have them…
and yet none of them ever have any kind of counter argument to my FACT about what the banner said in the gem store at the end of the first Halloween…
They’re back! Why do we still need a counter argument?
Back then they decided that these skins should be gone forever. Many months later they probably felt like their previous decision was wrong, and decided to bring them back instead. They basically admit that they made a mistake back then and want to go another way now, and admitting mistakes is actually something that I respect a lot.
They probably underestimated how difficult it is to make predictions for a time span as long as “forever”.
And again… a testament of Anet pandering to the vocal minority of the whiny forums…
Take pride in being a snowflake Solomon, because apparently ANET thought we all were or we’d not have gotten the items or chance at them. Anything that was acquired from events that first year should be left exclusive period. Notice I said “events”, gem store items can be repeatable. If you weren’t there for the item then hey that’s just too bad, should’ve bought the game. Be there for the next one
Anet runs events for days so no excuse. GAME ON
I just find it funny because every year I see these threads… or even worse ones whining specifically for certain skins… and yet none of them ever have any kind of counter argument to my FACT about what the banner said in the gem store at the end of the first Halloween… I guess sense of entitlement far outweighs one’s capability to hold a logical debate…
Ok so… I know I’m going against the group for the most part here… Here is the deal. I agree that exclusivity of skins within the game should be based upon accomplishing difficult or arduous tasks. Yes there are outliers given they were made sellable (something that shouldn’t have happened), but those are few and far between and up until now have only been the extremely wealthy. No I do not believe someone should have access to those skins because they weren’t there to get them. I was… MANY of us were… here from the start and as such those people should have stuff no longer available. To me, Anet re-releasing those skins, is a smack to the face to everyone who was there for the first Halloween event. Anet is basically telling us we don’t care you have been here for almost 4 years, Joe Schmo who has been playing for two days can get what you got way back when.
Oh and for the record, with about 5 days left in the 1st Halloween event, a banner popped up on the gem store that said and I quote “Only X days left to get one of the exclusive Halloween skins before they are gone FOREVER!” Had I known everyone would have a diaper fit over it every year I would have screen shot it…
This is why the next year they came out with different ones and it was a different event… They were never meant to return… It is due to Anet’s pandering to the whiny minority here on the forums they brought them back with the candy wrapper skritt… The whiners kept whining and now here we are… mystic forge drop table.
Anet isn’t getting another dime from me… ever… and I guarantee you I’ve spent more on this game than most of the users on this forum combined…
Well done Anet…
(edited by Solomon Darkfury.3729)
But it was clear they was going to be special rare skins
Nope, wasn’t clear at all. After first halloween, most people expected them to keep returning every year. Before each next event lot of people were certain it was going to happen then. Basically, it was certain to anyone that was paying attention that their artificial rarity will not hold.
Actually it WAS very clear… In the last 5 days of the original Halloween event a banner was put on the Gem store that read “Only X days left to get these limited Halloween skins before they are gone FOREVER”
Had I know there would have been this many whiny people year after year I would have screen shot it…
Toypocalypse……………..
Some new commander keybind functions were prematurely added… go to options, control options, scroll down to commander, then unbind everything
That’s the CoR fix?! lol Nevermind the fact it was dumping 15-20k crits on 2 sec cooldown annihilating 2-3 backliners in WvW… That fix is like putting fresh paint on a demolished building… In the meantime my war will continue to gather dust as I continue to demolish multiple people by spamming 2 lol (I honestly never noticed it hit more than 5 people… I was too busy insta-downing 3 at a time)
Coalescence of Ruin: This ability will no longer hit over the maximum number of targets (5). The cascade will additionally cease its progression if it hits the maximum number of targets.
This proposed fix is like putting fresh paint on a demolished building…
Congrats! The 1st time in the GW Franchise

… one specific tier of gear, in this case the top tier, is gated behind one specific content, namely Raids.
After 10years we went from “endgame is what you make out of it”, something a huge chunk of the community was very proud of, cause it was nearly a unique feature in MMO´s, to “endgame is Raids”.
Ummmmm what top tier? Legendary? Which is essentially just sparkly ascended? Yeah that tier has been available for years sorry…
Sounds to me like you went AFK in a dangerous place. There is a lesson there for you. ;p
No… he went afk briefly in a safe place and some trolly kitten pulled a mob on him…
Well, clearly it wasn’t a safe place. Unless you were there you have no way to know whether “that guy” was griefing or was running away from a mob. And if you were there, you must have been that guy. These are dangerous times, my friend. Be careful out there.
No… I’ve just had this happen to me before when going to the bathroom. People do this to troll end of story. Also any veteran can easily tell the difference between a safe and not safe place on any map in this game. I can tell you many safe spots in all the Maguuma zones…

You are in the kitchen making a cup of coffee with your character standing idle in a safe spot. You start to hear combat noises from your PC and come back to observe that guy dragging a mob next to your character so it starts killing you. You faceplam, kill the mob and watch the scoundrel move on as if he was totally innocent.
I hate that guy.
“That guy” is doing so because he thinks you’re AFK and therefore scaling stuff or an event leecher.
Still a violation of the tos…

So you know he can be reported for griefing and receive an account suspension for that.
Love the fact every weapon can be a stabby weapon. It’s a set for Spiky McSpikester or a metal head. There’s got to be a studded leather outfit or armor set that goes with it.
If your toon is female I would suggest profane armor skin… TRUST ME
The mace or better yet the scepter should have been a horse crop….

well i gues im forced to play the Anet game and pay what is 50 bucks in my country for 2000 gems and convert them to gold WP Anet.
A good portion of the gold you buy from third party sites is from stolen/hacked accounts. You buying from them is supporting those activities. Don’t even try to sit there and preach how Anet is ripping you off when all they are doing is trying to protect people’s accounts.
For some reason this whole topic makes me laugh out loud.
If you are laughing at this topic then you are either insensitive or have partaken in actions that these poor folks are describing… either way I suggest you look up the definition of empathy.
I know how it works. I also have enough reading comprehension to know that the OP was complaining about the WAIT (which is easily addressed by DOING STUFF), not being locked out of map cap.
Buuuuut if he leaves the map to do other stuff then he can’t get back in…
The TD meta has a 2 hour cooldown before it begins again, and my latest attempt at it lasted for 8 minutes and 18 seconds. I hadn’t even finished the first song in my music playlist before the event failed.
So much for ArenaNet’s “No waiting to have fun.” statements. I hate how the devs aren’t bothered with commenting with their thoughts on the event, yet they’re willing to throw out whole blog posts about e-sports, which only 1%-2% of the community actually enter and take part in.
Um, you CHOSE to wait for this event so blaming Anet for you deciding to wait is nonsense. If you knew it was going to start in 2 hours, why didn’t you go do something else … oh right, because it would have been a less awesome QQ thread if you did that.
No offense but clearly you have no clue how the map wide events work in HoT… if you don’t get in early and fast you get locked out from map cap.
HoT specific stats hidden inside raid
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Solomon Darkfury.3729
all other content are faceroll easy.
HoT and the Maguuma jungle is certainly NOT faceroll easy and it is clear that this is the direction Anet wants to take the game.
Ok jungle might not be face roll easy but it’s still pretty easy if you know what you are doing and not wearing pure dps stats. Why would you want to use viper and crusader in open world jungle tho? they are way less effective than some other stats like sinister(because mobs doesn’t last that long), knight(Crusader is way too overkill on tanky side).
Viper and Crusader are stats set only see play in raid and if you are not planning to raid the. why would you care in the first place?

Lost has 4 while Gilded has 5 nodes
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The nodes as I recall are unlocked individually
problem is that reapers bring nothing to the table in terms of group support so given the DPS is not as strong and they don’t offer support why chose a reaper over an engi or a warrior.
Reapers can give a TON of protection. ..
Well if anyone in a raid focused guild needs a viper reaper…
What? You expected your average player who gets their hard content strategies from dulfy’s site to actually know the rime or reason behind half of the things posted there?
She put in the disclaimers but it’s no different than anyone else blindly following a guide.
Rest assured I am in NO WAY blaming Dulfy. She’s awesome and we chat all the time. This was actually to join a RAIDING guild that was being advertised on LFG. Obviously these people were serious about raiding because that had a ton of very serious questions and were talking to multiple people at once. When it came to me they asked if I had any other classes. I said yes I have Keeper’s Druid, Zerk Rev, erk DH all ascended but I main my Reaper or would like to for Raids. Then they dropped the whole “We prefer burnzerkers” thing…
I just got rejected from a Raid groups party comp because my FULLY ascended Viper Reaper wasn’t good enough… They only run Berserker War condis as that os what Dulfy uses… lol wow… just wow…
Ummmmm sinister? Lol
Just like Beggar’s Canyon back home.
I see what you did there… >_>
My setup currently consists of-
Amd black edition fx835 4g 8 core
Sapphire tri-x radeon 290x 4gb
16gb ddr4
Running on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit using 64 bit client
Game is installed on my ssd by itself.
In WvW I’m getting 30-40 fps but would love more.
Any suggestions for optimizations?
Congratz on the 400 scribe.
I’m looking into the new guild armors atm and got stuck at the part that i need 5 “guild insignia” which i’m unable to craft. Is there perhaps a recipe or something that a high level scribe can/needs to craft for it? (could you have a look if you can craft something like this?)
From what I can tell… the way it works is recipes won’t open for me unless the guild has unlocked them. So say for instance the armors. We’ve chosen not to pursue them yet as we have higher priorities. So as of yet I can see nothing for them
So seriously, was it worth it? You spent the gem equivalent of $500 on a craft to make silly guild hall decorations. (This is not a personal attack on you by the way, I applaud you for being the pioneer to get there, but that’s why I’m asking for the honest sentiment on your feelings about the feat.)
Ehh for me it’s a completionist thing. That and I LOVE helping my guild out so I’m excited to make tons of cool decorations for the guild hall. I think the creation of those needs to nerfed a bit though. The process is ridiculous especially given the effort to complete scribing.
Also we are WvW centric so ALOT of the main WvW things for guilds now require scribing.
Unless your this guy
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3t6txt/ive_just_reached_scribe_level_390_on_my_own/ who hit 390 6 days ago
Funny thing is I know that guy lol
How much did it cost ya?
and congrats
Well… given that not many discovery recipes were known… quite alot…
Somewhere around 4500g personally. My guild WHO ARE AMAZING btw… threw in an additional 4-500g worth of materials so all told close to 5k lololol
Just hit 400… aaaannnnd god that was expensive
Why all this silence about scribing from anet?
Maybe they are working on it?
I’m currently level 387… when I hit THREE THOUSAND gold spent I stopped counting… good luck to the rest of you lol
one of the component for The Chosen collection is Sheet of Quality paper , which is available from lvl 300 scribe, and God knows what getting a lvl 300 scribe would cost you.
it doesn’t make any sense when you can simply buy The Chosen for 400g.
I have to ask. Has anyone even reached 300 scribing yet?
I’m at 387 atm… grinding my way to 400 as the resonating slivers are needed for so much at that level and ridiculously expensive… going from 150-350 cost almost TWO THOUSAND in gold Lolololololol. Mainly due to the low level of knowledge so making discoveries is difficult.
its more about personal skill than classes

That is all (From a wing clearer, not sure what credentials you have – but just gonna leave this here).
I think this just put a big steaming pile all over the OP’s “theory”…
Have you done calculations for Reaper Viper vs Reaper Sinister?
Funfact, they are not yet made even, now they are rushing it probably on backstage, same was for 3 new legendary weapons, added but collections were surely not yet completed and it was concealed behind not being able to buy 1st book
ArenaNet is behind schedule badly imho xD
This is totally false misinformation. Like mistward it can’t be viewed immediately. You have to get the recipe before it is viewable…
The raid DIDN’T in fact get beaten within 15 minutes. That was just pure BS. Check out this twitter post by DnT attempting some backpedaling damage control:
I understand there was a bad communication. Nike acknowledged this on reddit :
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3t8bxx/dnt_removed_from_raid_testing/cx429hyBut in those cases the first message is one of the most important, it was not done in a right manner. Add to this the salt banner, and other , let’s say, not too humble messages and you get this. Communication is important in any circumstances because it our way to interact. It shouldn’t be taken so lightly. After we all complain so much how Anet has some improvements to do in that field we have here a good example how players also lack some good way of communicating.
The worst is that this story is sad for everyone : Anet because they have to publicly take measures against players who’ve helped them a lot, DnT because their input in the content will never be recognized and for us because it will be more difficult to find high-end game guild to continue this work.
Nevermind the fact they openly admitted to trying to profit from their beta knowledge… yeah bunch of classy folks just trying to “help” the community…
2) They publicly belittled the high end end game content without even providing context. (The fact they were testers)
This is the simple reason. ArenaNet tried to appeal to those wanting challenging content/raiding. Anyone that follows the meta or looks into endgame PvE has likely heard of DnT. From the perspective of someone looking for that type of content, DnT essentially said to pass on this game.
Oh…you mean like the security team lead calling out a player as a cheater flat out, without even looking into it properly?
ArenaNet has to put a lot of trust in you to unban your account. How do you know he wasn’t cheating? He could have easily been using a VPN to mask the other accounts and one day he accidentally logged in normally which got his real accounts flagged.
If it wasn’t for him getting called out, he likely would have never admitted to account sharing himself and support wouldn’t have revealed that fact. In his case, he’s lucky that happened.
As for DnT, they were publicly included and publicly removed. It’s as simple as that.
Still I think for me the most important thing out of what I said was that they tried to turn a profit off it… They should get bans for that…
1) WE as a community have no idea the details of the NDA.
2) They publicly belittled the high end end game content without even providing context. (The fact they were testers)
3) They used their beta knowledge to turn profit by setting prices on raid exclusive rewards.
My opinion EVERYONE of them who attempted to profit from the rewards should get an account ban or in the LEAST an extensive suspension. (30-60 days would seem reasonable.
Send me a guild invite please
Anet runs events for days so no excuse. GAME ON
