Ordinance Crew bomb event takes too long
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Sorann Peace.9056
I noticed this when I was playing through the event as well. It’s especially tedious if you don’t have the glider and bouncing mushrooms unlocked, I found. A simple solution would be to keep the event the way it is but increase the number of bundle spawns, but I wonder how easy that would be to implement in practice.
Such a feature already exists in the game. A small hp bar shows up above the heads of allied players when you hover over them with your cursor. There’s justg no way of permanently showing it. It’s also hard to notice amidst all the skill effects and such due to its small size, but it does exist.
It doesn’t exist in a way it is convenient.
I suppose they could add an option to have the feature show up permanently, but wouldn’t that clutter up the screen even more than it already is by all the skill effects? I’m not sure if that’s the best solution, to be honest.
You’re salty about ascended? Welcome to the club, OP. Been salty about it since the Lost Shores myself, but it’s been in the game for so long I’ve basically become resigned to its existence. Thankfully I have a full set of it, so if its needed for raids, I should be fine. I have doubts that it will be, though.
But is it Ascended Zerk? If so, according to comments on all the new content, you could be SoL
ArenaNet never said zerker stats wouldn’t have a place, they simply said (or implied) that the zerker meta won’t be a thing anymore. The difference being that not everyone will be running zerker like in the past, but a few still might. More variety is the goal, I think.

The Evon Gnashblade Look-Alike?
Also, about the second Evon Gnashblade, I suspect that to be a joke about how players will often make lookalikes of prominent story figures. Hell, I once saw 5 players all dressed up and named after each member of Destiny’s Edge respectively. It happens all the time, and people have even made Scarlet Briar (AKA “Ceara”) look-alikes.
The Evon lookalike isn’t a joke about players making their own versions of characters. Rather, for several months before Lion’s Arch was officially rebuilt, Evon Gnashblade was in two places at once in Lion’s Arch. He was standing in the north by the trading post there as he always had, but he was also in Fort Marriner in the south enlisting Hero-Tron to be his spy. It was an oversight, when they plugged in the Evon in the fort to take part in the dialogue, they just forgot to remove the original Evon who’d always been there.
So the lookalike is their way okittennowledging their mistake in tongue-in-cheek fashion.
First, I am impressed you read far enough in to my post to see that. Second, I find it funny that the filter decided to censor the word “acknowledging”. Third, if what you typed is true, then that’s actually quite interesting.
But seriously, I figured most people wouldn’t read what I typed because it was so long. Thanks for proving me wrong!
You’re Overplaying Their Importance
Keep in mind that part of the reason for Kasmeer, Marjory, Braham, Rox, and Taimi being labeled the B-Iconics is because they’re all sort of related in some way to the “Iconics”, that is, Destiny’s Edge. One of the issues with your proposal is that the characters you mentioned do not have such a connection, and I think you are overplaying their role in the story as well.
Characters like Kiel, Evon, and Magnus are big characters, don’t get me wrong (in-fact, Kiel and Magnus have a history with each other going all the way back to when Kiel was a child. You wouldn’t know that by simply playing through Season 1 even if you did). However, there are equally as big characters with relatively the same amount of prominence in the story as well, such as Vorpp.
Some Equally Important Characters You Might Have Left Out
I’m genuinely surprised to this day that Vorpp is not listed as one of Season 1’s major characters on the official wiki, but perhaps that’s because his importance was overshadowed by his rare appearances. Still, without Vorpp’s help, we would have never driven Scarlet out of the Crown Pavilion, and we would have never discovered that Scarlet was planning to attack Lion’s Arch or the reasons as to why.
And it’s not like Vorpp was a Season 1 character only, he was featured near the end of Season 2 as well. But as I said, his importance is equal to that of Kiel and Evon, even if he isn’t really noticed much. Arguing that those characters should be the C-Iconics is rather arbitrary anyway. After all, Hero-Tron is much more easily paired with Marcello DiGiacomo, since those two have been together ever since Hero-Tron was Hobo-Tron.
My Thoughts On Possible Future Story Elements
Putting the whole Evon look-alike to the side, there are some interesting points you made. Yes, Magnus’ dialogue makes it seem like there will be Lionguard/Seraph conflict, but I suspect it will be minor, just as it has in the past between Hero-Tron and the Seraph already. (Also, that dialogue is rather old, to be honest).
As for Evon using Hero-Tron to spy on the Council? I think that and the Consortium stuff might tie in to a future Living World arc, or it might end up being just some sidestory. Who knows, really. Apart from the Consortium supposedly buying out the BLTC, we don’t know much about it yet. I hardly expect it to be in the HoT story though.
Finally, as for Canach? We see him in Camp Resolve shortly before heading to the final climax of Season 2. Considering how Braham mentions ‘heading back to Camp Resolve’, my guess is we go there, find Canach, and he tells us that they already left, followed by a prompt “Oh, kitten!” reaction. (Yes, I manually typed out kitten. Might as well not fight the filter, eh?)
Hey! I’ve had this character since the game launched and so his full backstory would be too long to post, but I will give you enough that you should be able to get a reliable feel for who he is if you decide to make a theme for him.
Name: Sorann Peace
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 26
Profession: Ranger
Alias: Falcon
Date of Birth: 21 Season of the Zephyr, 1302 AE
Place of Birth: Divinity’s Reach
Personality: A cunning ranger and a veteran of many battles, this young man has lost many who were dear to him. As a result, though he retains his desire to fight for good in the world, he sees the world much differently from the way he did originally. Less naive and equipped with a more serious demeanor, he isn’t somebody you want to mess with.
Backstory: Sorann was born to two members of the Shining Blade who had fallen in love years prior. When his two siblings were kidnapped, he was too young for his parents to take with them, so they left him behind at an orphanage in the hopes that they would return once his siblings were rescued. Alas, they never did, and after an incident that happened at the orphanage, he was forced to grow up poor and on the streets.
One day, while in a tavern, he heard noises coming from behind one of the closed doors. Not knowing that there was an interrogation by two whispers agents going on, he opened the door and accidently let the criminal loose. After helping make amends for his actions by subduing the escapee, he was offered the chance to join for himself.
It wasn’t long before the events at Claw Island led to the Order of Whispers allying with the Durmand Priory and the Vigil, and Sorann was one of the first to volunteer for going to Orr. At the time, he was but a mere agent, and he was known to others in the Order as “Falcon” for his ability to “swoop down” or appear out of nowhere and take foes by surprise.
He endured the tragedy of being the sole survivor of a sinking ship during the Pact’s first days of the invasion, thus breaking a promise he made to somebody back in Fort Trinity that he wouldn’t let their wife die. Needless to say, the man he had given the promise to was furious, and would’ve possibly killed Sorann had he not been stopped by a fellow agent.
Since then, he has discovered the true identity of his parents, watched his own brother die in his arms, experienced the terror that was the destruction of Lion’s Arch, mourned the death of his girlfriend at the hands of a Mordrem teragriff, and much more.
In any case, his backstory is one rife with turmoil and mourning, as well as victories and hope. He’s a character that, despite all he has gone through, refuses to give up on himself or others. He is determined to keep going where others would not, even while his past continues to haunt him.
That would fix so many of the issues I had with items I deleted before the Wardrobe came out. There are so many I would love to have back again. Thing is, I ended up having to re-earn a lot of them during the Festival of the Four Winds, but there are still some missing that I earned but weren’t listed then or now for laurels either.
At the time I deleted them, I was running out of bank space and didn’t think they would add a wardrobe in which I could more safely delete them. I was wrong. For the most part, I sort of let it go since I don’t expect them to cater to cases like that necessarily, but it would be a welcome sight to have some of the things I deleted back, including some things that weren’t skins like Marjory’s Journal.
The guy I’m responding to up there is making a straight conflation, and the point is directed at that guy.
You’ve got to quote stuff, man! You mean this guy?
I’m going to repeat the same thing that the dude from the HoT PAX announcement. I want “PvE that doesn’t suck” – in other words, please make me use my brain more.
For those who are more laid back and just want to do things. You can have your open world PvE. I’m happy for you.
For those of us who are more intricate and like complexities, please gives us our challenges
I mean, he never said “raid” in his post, so I hardly feel like he’s saying raid == challenging without alternatives. He just wants PvE that doesn’t suck – as do many of us.
Whether or not content sucks is a subjective opinion. Personally, I find that PvE content is fine. I do have my own views of how it could be improved, of course, but i’m not going to mention those here because they aren’t entirely relevant to the issue at hand.
As for the idea of raids: I definetely think that they will be using raids as their form of challenging group content. Knowing ArenaNet however, it won’t likely be the same kind of raid as you might find in WoW. ArenaNet has a very established reputation of doing abnormal things in the interest of being unique and innovative as they like to call themselves.
I don’t think raids will reward any better gear than can currently be acquired, so i’m not sure what reward system they would put in place for it. I have noticed, though, that many people seem to be assuming ArenaNet would have said raids if that was what “challenging group content” meant, but I think they’re missing a huge piece here.
Not everybody is a fan of the idea of raiding, and many associate it with gear grinds. Chances are, they may not even call it raiding simply because of the connotation with the name. Personally, raiding is fine to me as long as there is no gear treadmill involved. Other forms of progression can easily be imagined for such a system, I think.
I will gladly pay you 2000 gems Tuesday for BETA access today.
(if you got the reference you get all my +1s)
Also is there any timeframe when anet would do an open beta for stress tests and balancing opinions, possibly a way to introduce the elite specializations. I think doing so would make for a nice surprise, don’t you think?
Is this a reference to that NPC in Stormwind City in WoW that says “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”?
No, it’s a reference to the same thing the WoW NPC is referencing. Something much much older than either game…much older than any video game.
Interesting… I might have to look that up some time. Thanks.
It’s April 28, American time, because Anet is located in Seattle.
But, as someone else above you said, the most recent April Fools event started based on GMT/UTC, which crosses through Europe, and doesn’t even touch North America. So how do you know that that will be the case?
EDIT: Also, you do realize that North America, and more specifically even the United States of America, encompasses four separate time zones, right? There is no “American Time Zone.” The four time zones in America are Pacific Time, Mountain Time, Central Time, and Eastern Time, with a prefix of Standard or Daylight depending on whether its currently Daylight Savings Time or not. (e.g. Eastern Standard Time vs. Eastern Daylight Time.)

Such click. Much bait. Wow.
Need clarification on new defiance system.

I apologize if the answer to this question should be rather obvious, but it must be asked: What happens when the defiance bar reaches 0%? I know it is supposed to regenerate, but if all that is required for a CC to work is for it to be at 0%, and if CC’s are what bring the bar meter down, doesn’t that mean that you could CC lock a boss once it hits 0%?
So long as there’s a constant stream of CC’s, it would be stuck at perpetually 0% the entire time save for the first few moments, right? If that’s the case, it seems like it negates the purpose of defiance past the initial few moments of a boss fight, because once the bar hits 0%, it’s not likely going to regenerate when you have a zerg firing CC’s at it from all directions, thus CC locking the boss.
I feel like I recognize this from Gw1.

So the link below sends you to a youtube video of a track by Maclaine Diemer for Heart of Thorns. There’s just one issue: Why does the end of the track sound like it’s from guild wars 1? I’ve looked all over youtube for a similar gw1 track but can’t find it. Perhaps it’s a modified version of the prophecies theme? I can’t tell.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pETepgHAZoA
The part i’m talking about starts at at about 5:21 on the video and ends at about 5:49.
What do you guys think?
I think I sort of have to agree with most of the comments here, it’s more of a L2P issue than an issue on the part of the devs. This is one of the few challenging fights in the game. I wish some of you people had seen the Zhaitan fight before it got nerfed to the ground. Originally, fighting Zhaitan was horrible, because there were a bajillion risen, most of the mobs had insane health, and I specifically remember my entire group being naked because the hordes of risen kept killing us. It felt sooo satisfying to finally kill Zhaitan.
But then they nerfed Zhaitan, just like they did with the boss in the Source of Orr mission too. A lot of personal story bosses used to be incredibly difficult, but they all got nerfed. This fight is roughly on par with most of the personal story’s bosses back before those bosses get nerfed. If you weren’t around at launch, and didn’t fight Zhaitan early into the game, you would have seen the nerfed version. It only took Anet a few weeks to nerf him lol.
Case in point: I fought this boss with my hp generally hovering around max, and when I burned the thing down the first time, I got it to half hp and had to wait for what felt like 3 minutes for the invulnerability buff to go away so I could start phase 2. The only part of that fight I hated was waiting for the boss to actually continue fighting lol. So, OP, you honestly haven’t seen the half of it.
Some advice below, since I don’t want to leave a comment without attempting to help out a bit.
You need to take some time to breathe, relax, and observe the situation. It’s not all that difficult to figure out what does what. Listen to what the NPCs are telling you, their dialogue is usually very valuable. Also, white circles are normally always good. It’s the red and/or orange circles that you want to avoid. If you see any circle that isn’t explicitly red or orange, it’s not going to harm you. Harmful circles are always red or orange.
Hope that helps, and apologies if this comment seems a bit long-winded.
Well, I’m not sure what he’s doing in the Mists, but whatever it is has to have some sort of a tieback to the next release. After all, with all the teaser images they’ve been throwing out there with the words “Point of No Return” in them depicting Rytlock, I think something’s going to happen involving him.
Not to mention the fact that the next release is aptly named “Point of No Return” of course…
Introduction
Hey there! Some people on this forum may recognize me from previous threads and posts that I’ve made in the past, and if you do, kudos to you.
But unfortunately, that’s not the point of this thread. So what is the point of this thread? Well, you see, I noticed that a lot of people don’t seem to have recognized errors in their thinking regarding Living World.
Living World Doesn’t Produce Enough Content
For example, some say that Living World does not produce enough content, but what I’ve noticed is nobody seems to be capable of answering how much they would like to see. Often, I see comparisons to other games, such as WoW, and how their patches are the equivalent of four to six GW2 patches.
But, here’s the thing. GW2, minus the various breaks, has a release schedule of approximately 2 weeks each. Other MMOs, like WoW, will take 3 to 4 months to release a patch. Other games that take only a month, while they do exist, tend to be an oddity in the genre, with the only big example coming to mind being ESO.
The Calculations Don’t Match Up
So, if we go based off WoW’s release schedule of 3 months, and if we judge that 6 GW2 patches are equal to one WoW patch, how many times does 2 weeks go into 3 months? There are 4 weeks in a month, so that means two releases per month. 3 times 2 is 6, thus in the same timeframe, is not the same amount of content being produced by that logic?
I think we need to be asking ourselves if the amount of content is really the issue, or if it is the release schedule. You get the same amount of content as other MMOs if we go by timeframe. The raw amount of content per release doesn’t work when judging how much content you get compared to other MMOs.
Conclusion
With that in mind, my conclusion is that people who are more used to having content given to them in one big chunk rather than little pieces, are getting tired with breadcrumbs being thrown at them. I think that the rapid fire releases are giving people sort of a mental illusion, for lack of a better term. As in, it feels like a lot more time has passed than actually has.
What do you think?
So, here’s the thing. I had gone AFK in the Silverwastes, and when I got back, I noticed the Breach was happening. Wanting my mordrem parts, I raced to Indigo and was about a few seconds too late to get credit. But! When I exited the Breach, everything was weird.
First, the area above the Breach in Indigo had a weird white mist with sparkles littered here and there. I believe it’s the animation that displays when something is built, like a wall in WvW, but the animation kept looping. In addition, even though the ground looked solid, I could fall through it for some reason and end up inside the breach again. Now, I discovered later on when an event popped up to reclaim indigo, I could no longer fall through the ground but the white mist animation kept looping anyway.
But that’s not the weirdest part! I noticed strange vine pillar things out in the Silverwastes, and I think I recognize them as the head seen in the animation when a new vine sprouts. Thing is, the vine head only seemed to appear on my screen, and while some stayed constant, others would vanish with a purple mist animation playing around the object as I got close.
So, I present to you some images I captured of the vine heads. The first 3 were the ones that stayed constant, and the remaining 4 vanished as I got close. The pictures that seem to have nothing in them are simply to give a reference as to where the vine head was at before vanishing. I made sure my minimap was up so people can see where I am on the map.
TL;DR – A weird glitch happened and my client started displaying the locations where the vines in the Silverwastes are going to be sprouting in the future. Images 1 to 3 stayed consistent, the remaining 4 vanished as I got close to them.

So, I noticed that in the LFG tool, although the way PvP works has changed, the tool has not been updated to reflect this. The LFG tool still only shows “Team Arena” and “Custom Arenas” as options for PvP. I don’t think this is intended, so if one of the devs can let me (and others) know what’s being planned to fix it, that’d be great. It would be a lot more useful if it actually listed categories that existed, like “Custom Arena”, “Unranked Arena”, and “Ranked Arena” instead.
Also, I realize this is an issue regarding PvP/the LFG tool, but it is an issue that came about as a result of the changes made with the Wintersday patch, so I felt it fit in this forum rather well given this is the forum most conversation about the Wintersday patch is taking place in.
Hey there. Some people here may recognize my name from posts in the past, others might not. I don’t think I post all too often, but when I do I usually make some pretty substantial posts. But something has been bothering me as of late. The community here in Guild Wars 2 has been incredibly volatile, not only on the side of those who don’t like Living World, but also those who do like it.
I guess my main reason for making this thread, is that I want to have a discussion. I want to have a discussion where each and every one of us can sort of get our feelings out and discuss them. For example, those who do not like Living World say that it doesn’t produce enough content, or that it doesn’t produce the right, or satisfying content. Those who support Living World say it does produce enough content, or that it does produce the right, or satisfying content.
So what constitutes satisfying content? What constitutes enough content? Some seem to say that each release lasts only an hour, and when you bring up the non-story related things, they say that doesn’t count. Others say it does count. Where do you stand, and why? Does it not count because it’s grind? What would count?
And there seem to be other things. For example, some complain about the breaks, saying that it leads to boredom. Others think the breaks allow them to focus more on other things, which is a positive thing. In some cases, someone may just be rather neutral about it.
And on top of that, we have people who say the story is interesting, and those who say it’s uninteresting. We have people who say ArenaNet is incompetent, while others think differently. So what is your position? What is your stance on the Living World, and where do you think ArenaNet should take the game? Perhaps they should keep the Living World but add an expansion on top of that? Or perhaps they should just eliminate Living World altogether?
Whatever your thoughts may be, I made this thread to discuss these very different, opposing viewpoints, in the hopes that we can perhaps see what motivates those on the other side of the fence to argue from their position. What makes them see the game the way they do?
Discuss!
Oh hai there, aloes. I haven’t seen you guys since guild wars 1 prophecies. What’s up, how’s it been? I see you’re all still the angry little pine nuts that you were before. Just one question, are you going to be doing that AOE heal thing again? If you are, give me a moment…
NOOOOOOOO! The last thing we need are mordrem menders 2.0! xD

Beat me to it.
But yes, that’s a picture of the Leviathan that was supposed to be in Viathan Lake in Kessex Hills, but it got scrapped before launch IIRC.
I think, in all honesty, it’s not the pacing that is the problem but rather the length of the story. It’s far too short for it to accomplish much. The pacing is fine and realistic, but there doesn’t seem to be enough ‘episodes’ per se for it to cover a full story. Though I suspect we won’t kill Mordremoth anyway this season, and that’ll happen in season 3. That, or Mordremoth could be part of an upcoming expansion.
After all, ArenaNet has been saying they have something big going on in the background that they can’t reveal details about, and seeing as NCsoft said an expansion would come out in 2015… (And before naysayers mention the fact they said 2014 some time back, that could’ve been the original plan but it had to get pushed back due to development taking longer than expected.)
Just an fyi. The story journal is rather inconsistent with how it handles mail. What I mean by that is, in many cases if you replay an episode in the story journal, and you’re told to read a letter, if you haven’t deleted that letter from last time, it won’t send you a new one. Instead, reading that old letter will trigger it to progress.
This doesn’t always happen though and sometimes it sends you duplicates. Which is rather inconsistent and annoying, but whatever.
I just watched WoodenPotatoes’ analysis of the trailer, and at the end he got confused about something, but I immediately could make the connection. You’ll know what i’m talking about by the end of this post.
So, the trailer starts out with “To catch a thief, sometimes you must become a thief”. This is referring to Caithe stealing the egg of course. What’s interesting is it seems to show the player character turning into a sylvari. In addition, it shows an asura lab and what seems to be Faolain and some sylvari being experimented on.
What does this have to do with anything? Well, one of the firstborn, Malomedies, was the first sylvari to make contact with the asura. The asura promptly decided to do horrible experiments on him, and in-fact it was due to this that Cadeyrn founded the nightmare court, because the Pale Tree refused to take revenge on the asura.
I agree with WoodenPotatoes in that it seems like a flashback. But a flashback to what? I think it’s a flashback to a moment in which Caithe and Faolain perhaps /save/ Malomedies from the asura. In addition, on a cavern wall in the video, is an image of two serpents.
Some have made the connection that these are the Forgotten. But what would they have to do with the current story? WoodenPotatoes couldn’t answer that, but I think I can.
The Forgotten were the ones who cleansed Glint of corruption, thus freeing her from Kralkatorrik’s control. Seeing as this is a rocky door in the middle of a cave, and seeing as the seed which grew the Pale Tree was supposedly found in a cave… could this be the cave Ronan found the seed of the Pale Tree in?
Is it possible then, that the Forgotten may have left those seeds there ages ago, during the last elder dragon rising? Why they would do that, I don’t know, but if it’s possible that sylvari are technically minions of Mordremoth that just aren’t under his control anymore, what if the Forgotten cleansed those seeds like they did Glint, before eventually abandoning them there forever?
And what about Caithe’s dark secret? Could the secret be that she knew about this reality? It’s possible that the asura who experimented on them discovered something that led to her realizing the connection. Of course, that’s rather speculative, but if that’s the case, it would explain the connection between Glint, Caithe, the snake symbols, and the presence of Faolain and asuran labs in the trailer.
Now what’s the purpose behind stealing the egg? It could multiple things.
For example, what if she fears that Mordremoth will get the seeds and corrupt them, and Glint’s egg is the key to getting inside?
What if they’re already corrupted and she thinks Glint’s egg might hold the key to cleansing them?
Or what if she fears Glint’s egg is corrupted (since the egg wasn’t cleansed, Glint herself was.) and thus seeks to cleanse it? (I find this less plausible due to the fact we’ve seen and defended one of glint’s babies already back in Gw1:EotN.)
Whatever the case may be, this is getting interesting.

Trahearne No Longer Uses the “This Won’t End Well” Dialogue
So, this is sort of a two-in-one topic, forgive me. Anyhow, I was recently playing through the personal story on my alt and I noticed that Trahearne’s battle text changed!
(If you don’t know, that’s the dialogue that pops up when an npc enters or leaves combat. It’s where the whole “This won’t end well” originates from. It is (or used to be) his ‘I am entering combat!’ dialogue.
Here are some examples of phrases Trahearne now uses. Note, I played an entire chapter of the personal story and I never once heard the “This won’t end well” quote.
Entering Combat
“Die by my blade!”
Leaving Combat
“Well done.”
“Never rise again!”
Echoes of the Past Features Someone Rox Knew Before We Met Her
The second half of this post deals with how, in Echoes of the Past, when you reunite with Trahearne and the Pact, Rox can be found standing infront of an unknown charr and conversing. Most people won’t realize there is dialogue between these two since you have to stand next to them for it to initiate.
Now, I didn’t take screenshots of the initial conversation, but I do have the dialogue that comes after. I will put it in a link below.
http://imgur.com/UoCG5LZ,Vv3HIpp,JkeFNEp,casj2g2,uN8msph,POugDkr,yqBgT0L#0
Now for some clarification…
In the dialogue not shown in the link, Rox informs you that the other charr is someone she knew back when she was still working in a mine with her old warband. She happens to show a bit of hostility and annoyance toward him, and he even says “Looks like your friend’s coming to save you. Ha.” when you approach.
So who is excited by Trahearne’s dialogue change?
Also, who is this strange charr and will he play a future role in the story?

Unfortunately, I would’ve added more to my recent post, but it told me I had exceeded the limit of characters allowed in a single post, so let me quickly fill the rest in here.
Point #3: Appearances Are A Predicament (Continued)
The third appearance also featured Marjory directly asking Logan who ‘E’ was, indicating that she either thought Logan was E, or that he knew who E was. This took place at the end of Origins of Madness.
The fifth appearance of E was during The Dragon’s Reach, Part 2. This is where E gives Countess Anise information with which to defend Queen Jennah. This fits perfectly with Logan since he’s not only known to be in love with Jennah, thus wanting to defend her, but he also has been shown to have some connections with the Shining Blade and the Ministry, specifically in his knowledge of the goings-on and people in that group.
Some things I want to point out in response to some comments, some of which are things that I already knew that other people have posted though, so bear that in mind.
——————————
Point #1: What About The Name?
Mr. E in Scooby Doo is a pseudonym for “Mystery”. In-fact, Mai Trin back during Dragon Bash in Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be a pseudonym for “Matron”, since she first appears attempting to heal the victims of the Dragon Bash attack. It’s not implausible “Mr. E” is meant to be a pseudonym for Mystery just like in Scooby Doo, and that in-fact the letter E has zero to do with the person’s real name.
(Also want to point out that in Scooby Doo, “Mr. E” always signed his letters with the letter “E”. He never actually wrote the “Mr.” part, but the main characters assumed he was male, just like in Guild Wars 2.)
——————————
Point #2: The Characteristics Don’t Match Up
In the short story where E first appears, E is described as having a heavy, masculine hand and a deep voice. Simply put, he puts his hand on Marjory’s shoulder, Marjory thinks it feels masculine, and whoever it was had a deep voice, characteristic of males. In addition, the fact whoever it was managed to put a hand on her shoulder indicates it was not an asura or charr. Asura because they’re too small, charr because well… claws. Sylvari too, since sylvari hands most likely feel like foliage, and I don’t think sylvari hands can feel masculine or feminine.
(Maybe it was a norn, though? Meh.)
——————————
Point #3: Appearances Are A Predicament
There haven’t been too many appearances of E, and each appearance fits perfectly in line with Logan’s sphere of knowledge.
For example, the first appearance was in the short story. Divinity’s Reach.
The second appearance was during Dragon Bash. The letter claimed that something suspicious was going on and was likely to go down in the city. (We later had a hint thrown at us that Logan had some connections with Theo Ashford, the dead guy from Dragon Bash whom Ellen Kiel replaced on the Captain’s Council.)
The third appearance was during Edge of the Mists, though he didn’t really relay any information, it was mostly a mention by Marjory of him sending letters to her.
The fourth appearance was during the first episode of Living World Season 2, when we received a letter talking about stuff going on in Brisban. Logan’s captain of the seraph, and seeing as seraph were stationed there, it makes sense he’d know. Not to mention, the letter indicated that whoever E is did not know exactly what was going on beyond the border of Brisban, which if E is Logan, also makes sense.
——————————
Point #4: Arguments For and Against Possible Characters
Some of the ideas of who E might be in this thread have faults. For example, it can’t possibly be the Master of Peace because we first met him during Bazaar of the Four Winds, which took place after the events of Dragon Bash in which E first contacted us.
I doubt it’s Ellen Kiel either since she clearly didn’t know something was going to go down when it did at Dragon Bash, and she doesn’t have access to the kinds of information E had been relaying to us, such as the Brisban thing. Also, why would Kiel be in Divinity’s Reach, and i’m pretty sure Kiel’s hand isn’t masculine. She also doesn’t have a deep voice like the short story says.
Glint’s baby? Yeah, no. First off, I don’t think an unhatched baby dragon can speak. Second, the Master of Peace would not have been in DR at the time of the short story, so how did the egg get to DR? The Zephyrites had supposedly not landed for decades before Bazaar of the Four Winds happened.
I don’t think it could be Evon either, and i’ll say this pre-emptively since it’s a popular notion. Simply put, Evon, while he’s a merchant giant, and probably has hundreds of contacts, why would he contact us during Dragon Bash when he likely barely even knew us if at all prior to Dragon Bash? The first time he got to know us at all was afterwards, during Cutthroat Politics and Bazaar of the Four Winds.
As an aside, speaking of why someone would contact us during Dragon Bash if they didn’t know us already, what if E did know us already? Logan probably knows the player (us) very well if the story assumes we participated in the dungeon storylines and killed Zhaitan with him and the rest of Destiny’s Edge. You don’t have to be human, even, for it to work.
——————————
Let me know if I missed anything.
So, to start off, i’m going to provide some context. Many many weeks back there was another thread about E, and I remember someone making the link between Guild Wars 2’s Mr. E and Scooby Doo’s Mr. E. Assuming inspiration for the character was taken from that, let’s continue…
The Biconics are relatively known for being the second incarnation of Destiny’s Edge by the fanbase. What I find interesting is that in Scooby Doo, Mr. E was a member of the “old team”, with the main characters in Scooby Doo being the “new team”. Now, why is this important?
Well, because during Dragon Bash 2013, we see Logan Thackeray (DE 1.0/Old Team) interacting with Marjory and Kasmeer (DE 2.0/New Team) in a cinematic. In-fact, it was the cinematic we first saw Marjory and Kasmeer in, ever, and the first time we met Marjory (Kasmeer was a random npc on southsun cove during Secret of Southsun if anyone remembers).
So, is Logan Thackeray “Mr. E”? It makes sense, given how our first interaction with Marjory and kasmeer as main characters also involved Logan. And Marjory later asked Logan specifically who E was back around Origins of Madness/ Edge of the Mists in the beginning of 2014.
Has ArenaNet been giving us hints all along that it’s Logan? After all, Logan has had connections with people in Lion’s Arch, and seeing how he (or whoever E is) contacts Anise in Dragon’s Reach, Part 2 giving her information to defend the queen with. Well… I think you get my point.
Discuss!
(Also want to note that IIRC in Scooby Doo Mr. E was sort of there the entire time but the main characters never made the connection that that was who he was. But I could be wrong about that detail, so correct me if i’m wrong.)
(edited by Sorann Peace.9056)
I was never one of those people that had a problem with the temporary nature of season 1 of living world, and I spoke numerous times both on the internet and in-game about the good aspects of having such content. At the same time, however, I always had taken a liking to the personal story, especially the format for storytelling that it had used, so this new format works out just as well for me.
Tbh, I sort of agree with both sides. On one hand I think temporary content is bad in the sense that it keeps newer players from experiencing all the stuff from before, but on the other hand I think it’s good because it removes a lot of limitations in regards to what they can do to the world and with the story.
At the same time, I think the new format is bad in the sense that it puts those limitations back into the game, but I think it’s good in the sense that it allows people to experience the content for ages to come, even if that content isn’t quite as epic in nature as season 1’s content was.
Either way, i’m more worried about the fact that the article confirms the community’s fears that Halloween will be the same content as last year, and in-fact it even goes a step further and says the same will be true for Wintersday. At least the rewards will be different, I suppose, but i’m not sure how likely that is to quell the inevitable complaints.
Introduction
So I was casually browsing through the dungeon forums, and I noticed a lot of posts simply have to do with how many people vote and whether or not to keep or reimplement the dungeon instance owner. I was quite surprised by the fact that nobody thought of the alternative example used by 99% of all the other MMOs out there. I will go into the pros and the cons of it.
Party Leaders
What about party leaders for a change? Simply put, in other games, one person in a group is designated the ‘leader’. The way this is different from dungeon instance owners is that if the leader leaves, the dungeon doesn’t suddenly end. Rather, the system randomly selects someone else in the party to be the leader. In addition, party leaders can usually make someone else the leader manually if they so choose without leaving (or do so and leave after if they want someone specific to inherit the party).
The Pros
Some pros would be the fact that whoever makes the party would have control over it and would be able to manage it as they see fit. They could kick group members, invite new ones, promote another member to leader, etc. This would also mean that if they left the dungeon, the dungeon would not close. This gives people who want control over the party /they/ made said control, while also alleviating the problem of dungeons randomly closing because one person left.
The Cons
There could be a couple problems with this, however. It could, for example, end up being abused by people trying to sell dungeon paths to other people. But I feel like for the most part, this wouldn’t happen. They would have to kick each member of the party themselves.
But is there a way to alleviate this con? Yes.
Simply put, if one were to look for the best way to prevent this supposed con from happening, you could make it so that, while the party leader is the one who initiates the kick, the party is then called to vote on it. If 2 other people (3 in total) agree with it, then the person could be kicked. Or make it 3 other people (4 in total) if you want to be sure.

Am I the only one who wonders why people have such a hard time with the combat in this game? The combat in Guild Wars 2 is incredibly easy to learn and most of the fights are relatively easy. Even the Shadow of the Dragon fight is relatively easy compared to fights I’ve dealt with in the past in other games.
The only fights that I remember ever finding difficult were…
1. Zhaitan
Pre-nerf, back when there was a bajillion risen trying to kill you and Zhaitan’s AOE circles actually did substantial damage. I still have horrible memories of risen flooding the ship and my entire group getting killed the second we tried to use the waypoint. Also, we all had broken armor. Fun, fun times.
2. Aetherblade Retreat
It wasn’t difficult for me, personally, but I often found myself as the sole group member alive trying to solo it because everyone else got destroyed on the asura’s lightning walls or Mai Trin’s cannons. Also, i’m talking about the original version, not the fractals version of the dungeon.
3. The Scarlet Hologram
Moderately difficult, I suppose, but one gets used to it.
4. The Marionette
Not because it was difficult for me, but I had to work with other people, so, that made it more difficult.
5. Triple Trouble
This one is actually difficult.
6. Tequatl the Sunless
Post-buff, and only in the first couple months, afterwards it was incredibly easy and is to this day.
7. Clockheart
This one was difficult, but only when it had been newly released. I haven’t fought it since then, but i’m sure it would be easier now if I went back, especially since again, I had a tendency to be the last man standing and the rest of my group died fifteen minutes before me.
I love underwater combat in the game. It’s one of the most fluid, interesting types of combat the game offers, a very unique change from the traditional combat found in most MMORPGs. I don’t understand the points about depth perception, comfort zones, and the vertical axis, as I have never had problems with any of those.
As to some of the points about underwater combat needing improvements, sure, I can see it needs some improvements, but to label it as “bad” is doing an injustice towards it. Let’s be honest, most games have tried it, and they failed far worse than GW2 ever did with it. WoW’s Vashj’ir zone is a great example, where you’re able to shoot arrows underwater, and the excuse given for being able to breathe is a magic spell given by a shaman.
Oh, and you walk faster underwater than you do on land in that zone, which makes no sense.
Personally, I don’t believe in having exclusive items in the game for only a select number of people unless it’s for a really special occasion, like the game’s anniversary or a special promotion. I’m astonished why ArenaNet would release the other skins and items but not all of them on to the laurel vendor. There’s a few skins that I had gotten in the past but deleted that I would love to have again (since I did earn them the first time), but unfortunately they’re not on the laurel vendor right now.
From what i can see it’s just sun on/off effect not an actual transition between day and night, ther are no evening and dusk period, if ther are then they are extremly short like less than a minute, usualy you just by chance notice that night started and you don’t even know when.
p.s. just to add something that will now bother you if you didn’t notice it yet, shadows dont match sun or moon positions, and i mean all shadows i.e. mountains or trees and so on.
Source: GW2 Wiki
“The game uses a 2-hour day/night cycle: day lasts for 70 minutes, night for 40 minutes, with dawn and dusk taking 5 minutes each. Some events only begin during one of these time periods, some NPCs only appear at certain times, and some food and equipment confers bonuses during either night or day. In addition, the explorable paths of five dungeons and five Fractals of the Mists always take place during the night; the others are always during the day.”
Also, as for the point about shadows, that honestly doesn’t bother me at all.
It’s raining from time to time. But it’s very minor. Also, the day/night cycle is pretty minor. There isn’t even a sun…
Just posting to point out that there is actually a sun, it just blends in rather well with the skybox, as does the moon.
There are also dynamic weather effects already in the game, but they happen very rarely and it’s only rain that’s dynamic, nothing else. And no, i’m not talking about dynamic event weather, i’m talking about regular weather independent of anything else, that of which is not static, although there are some places where static weather exists such as near the entrance to the Chantry of Secrets.
Case in point, the sun, the moon, the change between day and night, and the rare occasional rain that happens out of nowhere need to be made more noticeable. When I say rain is rare, it’s rare. Very very rare. I see it only once in a blue moon and it’s generally a pleasant surprise. (Not counting static rain or rain caused by events, btw.)
Side note as well, some NPCs have dialogue acknowledging when night becomes day and day becomes night. An example in the Grove being…
Sylvari 1: “Shh. Listen.”
Sylvari 2: “What?”
Sylvari 1: “There it is. The moment when night gives up its domain and day opens its eyes upon the world.”
Something like that, at least, I forget how it goes exactly. And there’s also some human npcs with similar dialogue in Divinity’s Reach.

I think a good way to solve the issue would be to install a sort of “time orb” in Fort Trinity.
Now what do I mean by that? Essentially, if they truly wanted to make Orr be cleansed, by default if you have not defeated Zhaitan and participated in the victory celebration, Orr would remain dead. However, if you did complete it, the default would switch to it being cleansed, with a whole host of new events, activities, vistas, and POIs to explore.
Meanwhile, if you ever want to switch between the different" phases", you’d only have to click said orb. You would not need to complete the Personal Story to switch to cleansed orr, nor would you be restricted to cleansed orr after completing it. In addition, both versions of Orr can have totally unique rewards and content, providing incentive to go to both places.
It’s basically like adding new maps, in a fashion similar to how Blizzard is handling Warlords of Draenor by making a “pre-destruction” version of the already-existing landmass of Outland. The two versions would have totally different thematic appeals, but would be located in basically the same place lorewise.
It’s the best compromise I think they could come up with, without actually dividing the playerbase up.
Introduction
With the news that the upcoming Halloween event would be named “Blood and Madness”, many have speculated that it might be a repeat on last year’s Halloween event, and have expressed disappointment with that. I just want to make sure we all remember what the complaints were back then, since, the way I see it, them repeating it would merely be a logical response to said complaints, which were as follows:
A Flashback to the Past
On October of 2013, Blood and Madness arrived. Many players who participated in the Shadow of the Mad King event were outraged by the fact that a lot of their favorite Halloween activities were removed, such as the Ascent to Madness dungeon. Now, unfortunately, by the time this happened, it was already too late.
Some people noticed however that pretty much most if not all the wintersday 2012 content was in-fact in wintersday 2013. Many speculated this could be in response to the complaints about Blood and Madness and how it removed a lot that was part of Shadow of the Mad King.
Conclusion
To be honest, it is to be expected that ArenaNet would try to stay in line with the previous Halloween given the complaints before. And unfortunately, you can only pick one or the other, or else it gets confusing. And Blood and Madness is the “latest” in the lore, therefore I can see why they picked it.
This is not to shoot down anyone who is disappointed with this. I certainly am as well, but I often see people type on the forums without a clear understanding of context, and I hope to clear that context up before the update rolls around and complaints do or do not start happening.
Thank you for reading.
I have made a query to see how that page looks in different systems and browsers. I can’t see any relationship between who is having the issue or not. All mentioned pages are looking normal for me though. The query I did can be found here: http://browsershots.org/https://www.guildwars2.com/en/
I clicked on it, it was basically the same thing as the screenshot the other guy posted (basically the buggy main website page), with the only difference being a small segment where it displayed the words “Foo! Quaggan cannot find page!” in little black letters.
Question, did you click the link I provided in my post and it gave you a “page not found” error? If so that’s can be the reason, in some way your browser/system can’t find the CSS needed for that page.
Following the link I posted should give you something like this:
h2,h3,h4,h5,.eason{font-family:EasonPro,“Times New Roman”,serif}.tk-cronos-pro{font-family:CronosPro,arial,helvetica,sans-serif}a{text-decoration:none;color:#d6230c;cursor:pointer}h2{font-size:46px}h3{font-size:32px}h3 a{color:#1c1c1c}h4{font-size:20px}h5{font-size:17px}strong,em.strong{font-weight:bold}em,strong.em{font-style:italic}u{text-decoration:underline}sup{vertical-align:super;font-size:.6em}p.small,.small-type{font-size:.8em}.hide{display:none}.hide-txt{text-indent:-1000em;overflow:hidden}.u-pull-1-5{margin-left:-20%}.block{display:block}.nowrap{white-space:nowrap}.legal ol,.legal ul,.decimal,.disc{margin:20px 0;line-height:1.6}.legal li,.decimal li,.disc li{margin-top:10px;margin-left:2em}.legal li li{padding-left:2em}ul.disc li{list-style:disc}ol.decimal li{list-style:decimal}ol.alpha li{list-style:lower-alpha}ol.roman li{list-style:lower-roman}ol.alpha.bracketedli,ol.roman.bracketedli{counter-reset:bracketedli}ol.alpha.bracketedli li:before{content:“(” counter(bracketedli,lower-alpha) ") “;padding-right:5px}ol.roman.bracketedli li:before{content:”(" counter(bracketedli,lower-roman) ") ";
In case it doesn’t then there could be some issue there.
It gave a 404 error, I didn’t get a page not found error. And that code you listed wasn’t there. Again, I attached a screenshot of what popped up when I clicked your link at the bottom of my previous post, so you can see exactly what I saw by checking that.
Although I suppose getting a 404 error is roughly the same thing.
While I am usually one to defend what ArenaNet does, and I do believe firmly that there have been a lot of situations where ArenaNet should be defended even though the forums seem to cry out with rage, unfortunately I am, as of late, losing the ability to defend them.
With the recent feature pack that has come out, I don’t think the leveling process is necessarily ruined, but I fail to see how they can consider it an improvement by any stretch of the imagination. Sure, unlocking weapon skills by level is easier, but it lacks the uniqueness of actually using a weapon to unlock skills, which is something most MMOs don’t have.
I recently tried to level an alt and died at level 3. I received no downed state, and I was literally thinking to myself “This has got to be the most ridiculous idea ever thought of. Why in the world do you restrict downed state to level 5? Just why? What difference does the level it unlocks at make to a new player? It will still be confusing either way!”
But i’m going on a bit of a rant here now. While I do think the living world content that is released each update is plentiful enough that i’m fine with it, I agree that this several months long break feels close to insanity. By November 4, 90% of the build-up and suspense that was created in episode 4 will be lost, and people, rather than being excited by episode 5, will simply think “Meh… took long enough.”
The developers seriously have to realize build-up and suspense do not last an eternity. It will eventually fade given enough time. I’ve already lost 60% of the interest I had in episode 5 by now, and i’ll likely lose more of it before it actually releases.
There has been an interview recently which got a lot of players upset where ArenaNet stated that the Super Adventure Box is likely not going to come back as part of the living world. This is because they’re focusing on putting releases that aren’t related to the main story into “mid-season breaks”. That primarily includes holiday events (such as SAB) in addition to feature packs, such as the recent one we got.
I post this because someone is likely going to say they aren’t going to release World 3, which we actually do not know to be the case. All the employee said (and he wasn’t qualified to answer the question during the interview either, I don’t think) was that he didn’t think there was a current focus on it, but whether or not it will come back at some point in the future is something he is not sure about.
There’s already a topic discussion going on about this in the thread shadow posted, although the thread was kind of stolen. The original point of that thread was also about a website display glitch but it was slightly different. I suppose the guy who first brought the current display glitch up thought it was similar enough to post there rather than make a new topic, but nevertheless…
Don’t make duplicate threads!
As I posted before, can you guys access https://guildwars2.staticwars.com/wp-content/themes/guildwars2.com-live/css/gw2.4104382584.css?ver=3.5.2 ? Possibly it is the buggy CSS that doesn’t get loaded for some reason. If you can’t access it directly then there must have something wrong.
I clicked on it, it was basically the same thing as the screenshot the other guy posted (basically the buggy main website page), with the only difference being a small segment where it displayed the words “Foo! Quaggan cannot find page!” in little black letters. There’s a screenshot of it below.
EDIT: I also want to add that the website glitched literally as I refreshed the WvW Tournament page. It happened like this:
1. Accesses website just fine.
2. Clicks on WvW tournament page. Displays just fine.
3. Hits refresh. Everything breaks.
Also, I did notice when the WvW tournament page displayed ‘properly’ many of the widgets did not align correctly which is why I refreshed it to see if that would fix the alignment problems. On the contrary, it broke it further. How ironic.
I truly think that page is the culprit. It’s a new page on the website, and this only started happening once that page was added. It has to be that page.
EDIT 2: Also want to add, because I nearly forgot, when it first broke, I spent hours trying to see if I could fix it on my end, and I used the browser’s little debugger tool to see what was going on, and I explicitly remembered it saying that, according to the timestamp, around the time I viewed the WvW tournament page, something on the website ‘disabled’ the CSS, or so the debugger seemed to imply.
The way it was worded seemed to imply to me that that specific page I was on was the one which did that, but it was getting late so I wasn’t able to come on here and mention it, and only just now remembered. The timestamp for that was exactly when I was viewing the tournament page, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
Would be nice to know if anybody else who is suffering from this viewed that page at any point before things broke.
The Page in Question: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/events/wvw-fall-2014/
EDIT 3: Checked some of the screenshots in the thread and noticed that each screenshot save for one had a link saying “LEARN MORE” highlighted in purple as if it had been clicked, and that link takes you to the page I’m talking about. The one which didn’t show that wasn’t a screenshot of the main webpage anyways, so he may’ve still clicked it.

I don’t at all hate the new season of the LW, and I actually like some of the game system changes that have taken place lately, but the pace of content releases is still egregiously slow and that is certainly one of the biggest reasons this game has hemorrhaged players.
In 2 years there has been 0 new weapon types, 0 new classes, 0 new races, 0 new game modes (unless you count SAB), very few new skills, 1.5ish zone maps, 1 large dungeon, a bunch of paid cosmetics, and some temp content.
I know there’s been a lot of miscellaneous stuff, mostly minor and bundled with the LW, but still – that’s pathetic. That’s significantly less new content than most totally free MMOs that are less successful than GW2 see in the same time period.
What is going on here, exactly? The #1 way you attract and retain players is by generating hype. The #1 way to generate hype is to talk about your plans in advance, and to release major content updates frequently. Most people don’t care as much about story as they do about having new stuff to play around with. This game desperately needs an expansion or to have much bigger content patches than it has been getting, pronto. The 2nd most desperate thing it needs is more consistent interaction between designers and players.
Your source of the game having lost players is…? People have been saying that this game is losing players since the Lost Shores launched back in November of 2012. If it’s bleeding players so badly, then why hasn’t the game gone under yet, and why does the game continue to feel more and more populated as time goes by? Even with the megaserver change I’ve noticed sharp increases in the number of players I encounter, and those increases are taking place long after megaservers were introduced.
Not to mention, I’ve routinely felt increases in player population. While there was a period around 2013 where the population seemed to decline, it has steadily gone up since. And if you’re going to cite anet’s revenue, that has more to do with the fact a large number of potential customers have already bought the game and many play the game for free after buying it, which is perfectly okay.
To answer your main point though, there has been a lot of added content just as a previous poster stated right above me, but a lot of it was temporary. I’m pretty sure that once season 2 is up and we’re rolling on to season 3 and season 4 and so forth, the content will begin to pile up. Also, there was a recent interview I believe where ArenaNet vaguely hinted that their goal was to add new maps as part of living world and make that more of a primary focus than it was in season 1.
(Note: I interpreted it as a vague hint, but nobody in the gaming press seemed to catch it. So keep in mind I just interpreted the article as them hinting at that, so take what I say with a grain of salt if you must.)
Heck, the “Season 2 will be returning!” literally shows a portal in-front of the gate to Fort Vandal. (Although the website glitched for me recently, I still remember what the image looked like.)
(edited by Sorann Peace.9056)
That user was placed in number 4 back when the paid tournament leaderboards were around. He was one of the players with the most “Qualifying Points”, a mechanic that hasn’t been around for over a year now.
Here is my source.
To get “Legend of the Arena” one had to be within the top 5. So yeah.
EDIT: I didn’t realize this was a necro until after I had already posted. Whoops. O.o
I’m having the issue where the main site [the forums are strangely unaffected, most likely due to them being maintained on a different server perhaps?] appears to have lost it’s formatting [as depicted in the attached screenshot]. I’m using Firefox [I NEVER use Internet Explorer & I gave up on Chrome because I noticed that it “calls home” entirely too much for my taste. Any suggestions? I mean is it just me or is this a site issue?
I’m having the same issue, but people I talked to in-game say it’s working fine for them. It happened to me when I was on the WvW tournament page and I pressed refresh. It broke as a result. I have the exact same screen as you do in that screenshot when viewing the main webpage. Strangely, only the “www.guildwars2.com” url is affected. If the url is something like “forums.guildwars2.com” or “buy.guildwars2.com” then the website works just fine and dandy.
I’ve tried everything from a hard refresh to clearing the browser cache (all of it) to uninstalling and re-installing browsers and nothing seems to work. Seems to be a problem with the WvW tournament page in particular, but I could be wrong.
