Anything can happen, it depends on the determination and creativity of the developers as well as support from the community… I don’t really like it that much either, but I have every bit of confidence in Anet.

PvP and HotM needs a good amount of work Imo, but it can definitely happen. GW2 already has the player base.

has Anet said anything recently or done anything recently to lead you to believe that they will do something in the near future to promote GW2 as an e-sport? in your opinion

Not really since the whole tip of the iceberg thing and around patch days when they explain their intentions. But how much time has it really been?

Doesn’t really matter to me whether it becomes a full fledged Esport or not. That just usually means tons of wannabe fans and extremely stuck up “pro” players. GW1 had tons of awesome pvp content. No reason why that couldn’t have been one besides the fact it didn’t have that huge following. Like I said, I’m confident in the ability of the developer. Which isn’t the only thing that comes into factor with esports.

Anything can happen, it depends on the determination and creativity of the developers as well as support from the community. I played LoL since near end of it’s beta. I would have never guessed it’d be as hugely popular as it is today. That is entirely because of the two factors I’ve stated.

I think the people saying “Oh definitely not, cause reasons” don’t really see how much a game can develop in a years time with an entire development team behind it. Or they’re just upset with how PvP currently is. I don’t really like it that much either, but I have every bit of confidence in Anet.

I agree with you that the functionality of healing could be a little better. However, I completely disagree with it being a weak stat. I use a support build on my warrior and provide tons of aoe regen with banners.

You are not meant to play full healer if that is what you are asking. There was never meant to be a roll that would excuse a player from actually fighting.

Imho, in no circumstance should one be able to completely out defend an offense. I mean, unless they are just not even trying to kill you. Bunker builds should be a method of slowing down your enemies advance, not walling them off. I think it would make for much more interesting gameplay and I’d be much more inclined to even try bunker builds.

Just wanted to jump in and say that I’m reading this thread and taking it all in. Keep it civil (don’t get yourselves banned! ) and let those ideas flow.

I know some of you are upset with the change, but really, this is something we were planning for a while. WE MAY NOT LOCK DOWN utilities down the road, so that you can still have some adjustment when out of combat, but at the same time, we do not think weapon swapping mid-match is good for the overall health of the game. Just wanted to remind you we are here, and I am watching the forums, and your ideas are being heard.

Keep it constructive (and really, overall you guys are doing a FANTASTIC JOB OF THIS!), and carry on!

No! Don’t even consider undoing this change. The point of only having certain utility/weapon slots, to me, is because your supposed to be limited to your selected build. And by doing this, we have to think more critically about what we will use and drop in our build in order to make the best of it. This is funner to me. If it were like this then changed to not be, you would see this same thread with much more people complaining.

I thought this was how it was supposed to be from before the beginning anyways. We are still able to change builds in between matches right? That’s still too much control IMO.

Really? Some people obtaining (able to be traded with gold) skins through the cash shop makes you want to quit the game? If you don’t like it so much, don’t buy gems. If you let it bother you so much, that’s your problem. There’s nothing that should make any reasonable person upset over this.

As for me, I’m hoping we see themed BLC’s like Halloween and not a separate themed chest added to the store. This is because I’m constantly saving up a good number of keys (through methods used in the game) and would have a good chance of getting one of these awesome “RNG” skins.

I’m afraid Anet may have already seen through this ploy though, possibly explaining the lost shore chests.

Well obviously people are not going to be on as much since a couple months ago when the game was released. I really do not see this problem though. I am comfortable with the population being a little more spread out than it used to be.

People aren’t in WvW as much because it is pretty boring and unrewarding currently. Just a point-trading zerg fest filled with lag and culling issues and plenty of exploits. Just my 2c though.

Paying enough for repairs and travel costs as it is. Why would I want to kitten myself further in lowbie zones? The main reason to go there is to farm crafting mats that are priced way above value on TP. Its already a drag to waste time in these zones just to level crafting. Now you want to make it easier to be ganked? No thanks.

That’s a very lame way to put it tbh. “I like it the way it is because I can walk in and do whatever I want without issues. Why would I want it to be any harder?!” The problem is, all of this content with lower level zones becomes useless, except for running through it to either mindlessly and easily 100% the zone or collect mats. I believe with what we have now, it could be changed so that lower level zones retain their usefulness and fun factor at higher levels. They are already on track by improving drops for lvl 80 players in 55+ zones.

I agree, downscaling doesn’t seem too strict and low level zones become really easy even when your 10-20 levels above. I think it would be more fun if you were on a balanced plain throughout the game. So going back to low level zones and completing them wouldn’t be so boring as it could be fulfilling.

I only really agree with that sPvP could use some progression tie-ins with PvE. Just as a little extra incentive to play it as an alternative to farming. I mean, wvw is pretty farmable for gold/karma.

Monthly PvP Achievements

I was able to get my monthly achievement in the past 2 days from 0%. Probably played a total of 6-8 hours and I am used to pretty much losing tournament matches all the time. If i were much more successful, the achievement could have been done in no more than a couple hours flat. Ended up winning a tournament in the end, solo queuing! \o/

The PvE monthly takes much more time, and tbh is much more rewarding. I would hope they could buff the PvP monthly to be more like this. Just my 2c.

- A new high end zone to finally give an alternative to high level farming.

- A lot of class changes/fixes to make the PvP experience much more fulfilling.

- About >9000 threads on the forum about how disapointing everything is due to biased and unreasonable expectations.

no, after the event, the holloween recipes you discovered via Recipe ONLY will be the ones that will stay. Mystic forge will not allow you to make them once the event is over.

Source? I would definitely think the MF recipes would still be active. Especially the weapon ones. If I didn’t already have 100 lodestones or I’m sitting on tons of gold. How would I be able to get Arachnophobia in a single week? The whole BLC weapon skins thing is understandable but that’s just teasing.

It’s not offense should > defense, but damage > healing.

In a perfect meta even two bunkers would kill each other eventually.

I like what you have to say here. I don’t know why people think the issue is any more or less. This shouldn’t be true. Simply out healing your opponents damage is only fun for the bunkering guy and that’s if hes into trolling.

It’s irrelevant. that being defensive is a strong strategy for the only game mode. The game simply shouldn’t play out the way it currently is. CTF would just introduce a variation of the bunker that stacks some swiftness. It’s not a problem with the game mode.

I tend to think that the meta is full of bunkers due to the fact that offense, specifically thieves, is TOO good. If you run anything other than a bunker, you run the risk of getting istagibbed by the thief combo. Tone down the burst (while maintaining overall dps) and your bound to start seeing things other than bunkers.

What do you think of that, OP?

I agree with this 100%. The only way to play some classes is to fortify yourself.

If the balance shifts to allow more balanced builds, fights will be longer, builds more diverse and pvp more fun.

I would have to disagree. Thieves aren’t the problem here causing problems on the other side of the spectrum. I run a mostly damage build on my warrior. Like, I’m squishy and just carry a stun break and a shield offhand. I feel perfectly fine vs thieves. I can react to them doing the same old thing every time they approach me. Not saying they are perfectly balanced. But, it’s not like I mind as well give up fighting a theif as I mind as well not try capping a point with a bunker sitting on it.

Now how do they remove the stuff people got when it was still possible to farm there. Some people already got an advantage. They still need to do something about this. Or make the chests like they were before so that I can farm too.

They don’t usually do this unless it was clearly an exploit that people took advantage of.

I was hoping to get mad king gear for my (almost) second lvl 80. It seemed like an easy way to get exotic mf armor since I got the boots. Unfortunately I probably won’t be able to get it without a lot of money/luck.

So, when I first tried the labyrinth map and killed the family-sized candy corn I got a chest with a good amount of stuff in it. Including a regular exotic! Seemed like it was going to be a great place to farm. Came back later on another character and I’m getting single greens from the chests, not that I was expecting all exotics. But single items?

Also, the chests only work once? That kind of sucks for someone trying to get mad kings armor. I suppose it was all too good to be true at first. Not that I’m upset but more so curios because I heard a ‘hotfix’ happened.

Other classes (save for Thief) have to cut their survivability for damage, but not Guardians…

Mesmers don’t really have to cut their survivability much either.

However, Guardians totally do.

I think he means guardians don’t have to sacrifice much. Which does have some merit.

Kinda agree with you, I play an Engineer and whenever I face a Gaurdian 1 on 1 I really have a hard time killing him (battering ram and #4 skill on rifle usually fail because of what you have mentioned) but at the same time he is unable to kill me so we just attack each other until team members join in the fight.

Imho these situations should not be possible and is currently one of the things making sPvP a lot less fun. At least for me and some others.

Nerfing burst damage won’t reduce the bunker meta, not by a long shot. Don’t know why people would stop playing something so effective after it receives an indirect buff. There’s a problem on both ends of the spectrum here.

Though, IMO thieves aren’t that bad.

I’ve wondered this exact same thing. It’s probably because of the ease of following everyone around to do dragons. There are timers set up for them and everything.

For example, if I feel like farming some and am lazy to go find something to do. I check the dragon timers. If one’s within ~20 minutes of starting I go there and just chill until he decides to show up. I would love to know when other bosses are up though. Shadow behemoth could easily have a timer. I’d code the hell out of that right now if I could.

I’m sorry, I can’t get over the absurdity of this comment considering the road map of this thread.

Right? That is the prime example of a person who’s probably playing the wrong game and is likely to be disappointed the instant a change is made that doesn’t fit with his/her vision of the way things should be.

Me? I’m playing the right game. I have my own complaints regarding bunkers, formats, ladders, downed state, map and mode variety, map sizes, portals and what they do to roamers, excessive visual noise, TTK, and other things. I believe some things need tweaks and others could use complete reworks. However, ultimately, I enjoy the game and I’ve dealt with all changes made to all classes since beta weekend #1.

It may sound ridiculous, because that’s just honestly my faith in the further development in the game talking. And yes, I do have reasons to believe we will see these changes in the future. Why else would they be giving us all this fluff about dynamic, balanced pvp combat and it’s just starting out blah blah.

If things were really to stick to a meta like this. Fine, but I’ll probably not be around for too long. And I don’t know how people think the game is better off with stuff like this than possibly without.

The problem isn’t even that bunkers are hard to kill 1v1 or 2v1. The problem is that because of the short distance between points and especially the broken mesmer teleport,
it’s easy to get ppl to help the bunker before he dies and still get back to help another point if needed.

Exactly. They hold out for too long to currently not role at least one or two in any team composition. I like building defense builds also. I want there to be strong defense. However, I want it to be hard to defend and hold the line. As it is, it’s much easier to be defensive rather than offensive. If offense was just able to be slowed, not completely deterred, we’d have much more interesting and dynamic game play.

Why do some people not want this? It must be an unfathomable thought to a lot of people. But I can see it there, just needs refinement.

Not sure if you’ve actually read the thread. Nobody is telling him that he should do everything as a warrior. Quite the opposite – people are telling him to avoid 1v1 fights with bunkers as a warrior because warriors lack the sustain and the condition pressure to win those fights solo.

Some other classes are in the same boat.

If he really wants to play warrior, then instead of crying about it he can realize that all classes are not built to be able to counter every single situation (true in every single non-sandbox MMO to date, including this one) and get somebody else on his team to run an appropriate bunker busting class/build. Then he, as a warrior, can fill a role that’s more appropriate to his class.

I know ArenaNet hyped this game with “every profession can fill every role” and blah blah blah, but the fact is that it was little more than exaggerated marketing. Even with build diversity, some professions are still going to suck at certain things more than others and warriors just happen to suck at 1v1’ing bunkers.

I honestly don’t see the problem.

They aren’t directly saying he should do everything as a warrior per se. However, he’s being lead to no choice. You think having these bunker builds and meta team comps is fine? That’s entirely your opinion. Thing is, I know that isn’t what’s meant to be. And I know things won’t stick like this. If they were to, I’d get tired of PvP in no time. The game probably won’t go very far “Esport” wise.

So, if all classes weren’t meant to be able to do certain things. Why are they giving us such freedom to make builds? Why don’t they just give us a choice between 3 different skill trees that are completely streamlined like some other MMO’s. These arguments for bunker builds and metas don’t make any sense to me. You seem to be dodging most of that being said and going straight to “warriors can’t handle everything”. Then taking said argument and completely exaggerating it to make everything about his post sound foolish. I really don’t approve of this strategy in an argument and it’s not going to help anyone but maybe…your ego?

I play warrior 90% of my pvp games and I do not think they are totally sub-par. The reason he is resorting to this argument, however, is because of contradictions made in older arguments. This thread is about bunker builds being too “meta” and wringing the game dry of fun and dynamic gameplay. If i build a warrior for offense and can be 100% countered by a single defense there is a problem. If I have to resort to doing certain things just to counter this 1 build type. If I have to always take bunker builds into consideration when making builds. There is a problem here.

Zyrusticae is resorting to saying “I can’t do everything as a warrior” because everyone in this thread is telling him to do everything as a warrior! You can’t expect one class to completely focus on countering bunkers AND be able to have a variety of builds. This is the problem with it. Bunkers counter almost everything too hard. They secure points indefinitely. That’s 1/5 members doing 1/3 of the job. Also, prepare for impact, it promotes non team-like behavior and strategies by having one guy bench a point all day. What communication does this bunker need with the outside world when he’s hunky dory on his one point. He doesn’t need help. If it’s at the point where he will need help ASAP or die and lose the point, his team is A capturing other points or B coming to wipe up the enemies currently smacking their heads into his big bunker brick wall. They will win this fight because of how much the offense had to blow just for a chance to down the bunker.

You cannot lose with this setup. There is no reason to not roll teams like this. That is not what we were promised with GW2 gameplay. That is why there is a problem!

P.S. GW1 is not GW2. I think this doesn’t really need to be argued. But I do have some evidence to back that one up if so needed. Like, I know how it is in that game and all. But, it’s pretty much completely irrelevant to the argument. This new game was made to change things. Heavily.

This isn’t about burst-dps being able to instantly kill a bunker build. It’s about bunker builds holding out indefinitely vs any one other build and sometimes vs two other players. I really don’t see why you think bunker builds should be able to completely withstand anyone. That sounds a little biased…

Because as I said above if they cant withstand 1 person for a decent period of time then they are not needed, if they are not needed then condition damage is not needed, that only leaves burst for most efficient play. Burst implies large amounts of quick front loaded damage, for a burst to take out a bunker it would have to do so quickly with its “burst” What is not to get here? Honestly people who think you should beat a bunker with burst rather than sustained dps, or conditions seem biased towards those classes.

I used to be a bunker, but never agian. Being a bunker sucks and is quite boring at the moment. I am either babysitting a node twiddling my thumbs for most of the game, or I am facing 1 person who I just trade blows with until he gets bored and leaves, or I am steamrolled by a large group focusing fire and using conditions( which then your team rages that you couldnt handle 4 ppl for the two minutes).

None of that is fun for either team imo, nor is it fun to have to fill a role your profession is pigeonholed into. Like I said before bunkers should curb burst damage from instantly bursting everyone down, in a bunkers drops in one big burst then they are not needed. Please elaborate on how this new meta will evolve when burst is king? I have clearly stated how I think the meta does/should pan out, I would like someone to do the same

They definitely need work, sustained healing and condition removal need a serious lookover from the devs. Right now there are bunker builds that can hold indefinitely against condition and sustained damage builds, this is absurd. Bunkers should have to blow everything to counter a burst blowing everthing, this way burst curbed. Both sides should have to give it there all; this means that a burst can blow their wad and leave if the bunker doesnt make a mistake but if the bunker makes a mistake they die. If anything this system still favors burst.

No has argued burst should be able to walk on bunkers. It’s that bunkers can hold out vs almost any build indefinitely. I am on your side here. Bunkers as is are completely boring. They should be able to hold out on a point, but not forever. Even if 3-4 enemies dog pile on a bunker there’s a chance they won’t win because he will just hold out until teammates come…or just secure the other 2 points. It’s too strong and safe of a comp not to roll 1 or 2 bunkers in every team build. This is not ok for “dynamic gameplay”. I quit LoL to avoid this boring crap.

The answer isn’t actually Google it. The answer is explore it for yourself and find out. It’s not like there isn’t glaringly different things in LA. Problem is, lot’s of people are lazy in the mind and want it all played out in front of them. Like a movie or something. So they google it or log onto the reddit/forums.

Design is fine and not supposed to be put right in your face. There’s tons of things that can be done during this event and very select few will be able to obtain everything.

This isn’t about burst-dps being able to instantly kill a bunker build. It’s about bunker builds holding out indefinitely vs any one other build and sometimes vs two other players. I really don’t see why you think bunker builds should be able to completely withstand anyone. That sounds a little biased…

Hard control generally gives bunkers a hard time. Unless they have stability all the time (and thanks to some changes, that’s harder to accomplish) you can interrupt key skills and depending on the profession/build, just move them off the point and cap it anyway. The other option is to just have a heavy pressure build force them out of cool downs.

Control though isn’t some easy archetype to play, since you need to know what a lot of key abilities look like, and know when to apply your methods. You also need good reflexes, and the ability to think ahead of your foe. Since it isn’t about making big numbers or really being flashy people aren’t drawn to it.

The reason bunkers are so strong is cause for about the past 2 months almost everyone has been trying to run explosive, blow-all-your-cool-downs-to-score-kills builds, rather than exploring more balanced or unconventional builds. People blow all their crap, bunker brick-walls, and then you die cause you’re out of steam. Then, people think they don’t do enough damage. When the real problem is the delivery of that damage and how you actually put the hurt on people makes a huge difference.

So, you approach the bunker and wait to blow your CD’s. The bunker realizes this and pretty much saves all of his stuff or just stands there because he is a bunker. Time on the offense side just becomes wasted.

The problem has to do with how easy it is to sit on a point defending vs killing them. I don’t understand why that should be the case. The game is about killing and fighting…that’s what were here for! I know there is a lot of mind games involved but still. Killing a bunker should be a matter of time, not a matter of being able to or not.

I don’t worry about dealing with anything else. I don’t get nearly as annoyed when dealing with anything else. I’d so much rather play as anything else.

This bunker stuff really is just taking shots at my enthusiasm for pvp. It’s just…too safe of a play style. And what honestly counters it? Getting the point before them then bunkering yourself.The only other thing that works remotely well is using knock backs to at least neutralize the point. And you have to have some good knockbacks. It’s really detrimental and single handedly killing the fun for me. I’m only assuming it’s carefully being analyzed and will just take some time.

Guys, this are unique skins. Do you understand it? There will be no other time to get them the next whole year. It’s like legendary weapons, there has to be few of them, otherwise they will be just ordinary thing that everyone has. Their cost is defined by how much of them are available, you wouldn’t want to get that skin if everybody around will wear it, even if it looks cool. Imagine if everyone will run with chainsaws, that would be horrible!

Yes, however, I am special and deserve to have MY own cool skins so that I may be one of those guys with the cool/rare/unique weapon skins. It is not fair that the chances are so low for me so that I may not get what I deserve. Which is to be a special butterfly that stands out from the pack.

As hilarious as that was. I gotta admit, leading us to believe paid tournies were coming out with this patch then not coming out as the patch lands is terribly slack.

People stayed up to play these tournies as soon as possible only to find out that they waited for nothing.

Staying up and waiting for something to go live on a major online game is a really bad move. I know mostly everything else in the game was patched smoothly. But those people sitting around waiting for the event to start were potentially wasting their time.

I was looking forward to some bunker nerfing as it is the one thing that I dislike about PvP really. I am pretty happy with what we got. Thieves were also kind of annoying but they got hit pretty decently for a single patch.

I agree. MF is fine in a farming game like diablo but just bad in a game like gw2. Whatever possessed them to think it is a good idea to include it.

Simple, yet I completely agree. It is exciting to get a few percentiles of MF in Torchlight II. A gear based game where it does not rely on balance or a system. Whereas in GW2 gear is based on a level to rarity system, so it’s not hard at all to max out your stats in no time. The rest of the stuff is just pure junk. Besides that million dollar lottery chance you pick up an exotic precurser…
