Drop rates RNG is broken.

Here i am with 1500 hours of gameplay and still haven’t gotten a precursor nor anything of real value. Yet a friend of mine just started with trial and got a precursor drop. I have over 160% passive magic find and he had kittenin 0 yet he got it by a champ bag!

After doing research there is literally a whole subject on “lucky characters”.

Let’s see .. about 2400 hours and no precursor and no drops over 80g worth. Gee, it’s almost like it’s random or something.
Also, “lucky characters” isn’t a real thing. It’s made-up bs by people who can’t seem to understand what the R in RNG stands for.

I log on and what is there to do? Nothing – which is why I log out and watch hour long videos about why Guild Wars 2 is boring.

How about a hobby outside the game? If you’re bored playing, stop for a while and do something fun and/or productive instead. Draw maybe. Write something. Cook a meal. Take a walk outside. Or hell, just bingewatch a tv show or something.

Can we make this game more difficult across the board?

How about no? Just because you personally think the game’s too easy doesn’t mean everyone else has to subscribe to it.
If you want a harder time, there is literally nothing stopping you from making the game more difficult for yourself and nobody else – just play one-handed. Or while eating. Or being distracted by a math problem or while writing an essay. Blindfolded, maybe. While washing a cat. Doing household chores. With your feet instead of your hands. Without a mouse. And so on. And so on.
No need to involve anyone else or even changing one line of code.

Yeah, those afk engis made the entire map so lively, didn’t they?

I am playing… it’s just my lil tushie isn’t on the chair. In fact, most of the time when I step away…afk…I am not really gone… I check my screen often so my turrets stay up.

You’re either afk or you are playing; but you can’t do both at the same time. And when you’re afk, you’re by definition not playing.

Any hey, i sympathize to a degree here. You don’t have the same amount of time to throw at the grind, so other people have more than you and that’s frustrating. But… that’s just how it is. That doesn’t mean it legitimizes the AFK farm, it just means you’re at a disadvantage that’s not really anyone’s fault. You just gotta live with that.

I for one love the new daily system. Main reason is that i’m not forced to do them anymore to get my laurels – i can ignore them and all i lose are some AP and mediocre chests, which isn’t nearly as big a deal in the long run.
And if i wanna do them, they’re way faster than the tedious old system (especially when Reviver was on the list) where i pretty much ended up doing one Teq per day for 5 events and 50 kills and then got annoyed when i had to hunt corpses afterwards. And good kittening riddance to “Condition Remover”; i hope that never comes back.

Yeah, i’m not gonna miss the old system one bit.

Thanks Wanze, awesome info. So it sounds like I may want to farm some old clothing. how many charges does the pick come with? Can you use it 100 times before you have to open a new one?

Statwise, they’re the same as the Orichalcum tools, except that they’re usable at lvl 15.

But Charr already have cat ears… giving them a third pair would just confuse them.

Why can't we skip cinematics!

Stinkehund.3012

There’s a bigger technical issue—during “in game” scenes, the NPCs are moving around and things are happening (gadgets might be activating, props may be animating, etc.) and if you just skipped all that, it could lead to some really bizarre behavior. Trying to manually set a “failsafe” to teleport the NPCs, fire off effects, etc. to replicate what the world state is if the cutscene plays is extremely tedious and error prone.

That’s why the old style “dialogue cutscenes” are skippable, because we aren’t doing anything to the world while the dialogue plays, so skipping it doesn’t have any effect. We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off.

Update, perhaps I am wrong on this, if so my bad.

That is still bad design, though.
And it would be easily remedied by adding challenge-reset-motes, like in Glint’s Lair…

Just don’t do it. No, seriously – you’ll save yourself nerves, time (A LOT of time thanks to the stupid cutscenes). After failing this kitten thing 4 times (3 of that at the very last hit in the bossfight, 2 times thanks to it just bugging out), i just quit it and gave up on doing that particular achievement.
20 AP is just not worth that kind of frustration.

D: It’s possible. But that could just be a persnal mantra. Or he could consider his stone-state death?

He might. And even if he doesn’t on a personal level, in a very real way, his race is dead. There will be no new dwarves, ever. They don’t really have any culture anymore, no lands, no future – and for all we know, Odgen might be the last kitten dwarf around in the entire world; not that it would change anything in any way…

They could easily release in the early morning (so people could download while they’re at work) or late night (so they could download while they sleep), but no, Arenanet insists on doing it mid afternoon so they have to sit their and watch a progress bar during prime playing time.

Not everyone lives in the same timezone as you or has the same “prime playing time” as you and not everyone gets the patch at the same time as you.
Neither the world nor the game revolve around you. Deal with it.

- I played since the beginning and have never created a human character.
- Also never played the Norn story.
- Or made a male character. Ever. I don’t even know what they look like.
- I made a ranger as my first character and i still play her as my main. And i never gave one single kitten about people whining about the class. Same with Staff Ele’s.
- I make it a point never to join any party that wants to enforce an AP minimum, despite having more than enough of the useless things to join up.
- I brought several people into the game and warned every single one not to go into the forums, at one point calling it “the proverbial hive of scum and villainy” – and i stand by that.
- I laughed my kitten off at the people crying about the same-sex couples in the lore. I still do! It’s hilarious to see bigots lose it. Or just lose in general.
- In my first week playing, i bought gems to convert into gold, since i needed more cash. 4 gold for 10 euro – i was pretty happy with that back then.
- On the first halloween, i opened a random BL chest with a key i got from the story and got the Greatsword Chainsaw skin. (before there were actual skins, mind you)
I then sold it for 20 gold, thinking i just made a fortune.

- And i really, really, really want to see more high heeled shoes in the game, especially for Asura.

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

I’m all for trying out new things, but this is just awful.
I really don’t want to give away 80 gold for 400 gems when i don’t need that much. I mean, if the exchange rate was 1:1, MAYBE i would think about doing it, but now i’d just make a pretty hefty net loss and be left with extra gems i can’t spend..
You wanna make it easier for new players? Fine. I’m willing to believe that reason (even if the method to do it is hilarously misguided). But you don’t have to do that by making it “harder” for old players. How about just keeping the new system, but giving us the OPTION to type in a custom amount if we choose to?
Anet can continue to milk the system, people with less gold on hand can still afford keys for chests, everybody’s happy… ish.

2.Hearts in Plains of Ashford, Caledon Forest, etc. – It took me almost an hour of roaming around and asking where to find the hearts that needed to be recompleted. These are areas I had already 100% completed… now I have to go back and find hearts on my map that are not seen!!! I had to literally walk around until they popped up because there was not any Telescopes to show where they were… I had already uncovered all of the map so it wasn’t indicative of where to go.

I had 100% map, too and absolutely zero problems finding the new stuff. The little compass-arrow points you to undiscovered stuff, including scouts, who will show you the new hearts. They’re even highlighted on the map. Just follow the arrow; there is no reason to blindly roam the countryside.

4.Tequatl poison – So the first time I fought Teq after update we went down to under 1 minute left before we killed him. The poison is ridiculously insane… I’ve been in organized groups every time. We even fought him again last night… (this time it was an organized guild kill) and we majorly struggled with him. This coming from a guild that has killed him every night since this fight was changed.

I’ve noticed no difference in the poison.
Apart from that.. Turret Skill #3. If you let the clouds build up, of course they’ll become a big problem, but that’s what the turrets are for.

Let me give you a dissenting opinion – gigantic open-world events are nice in theory, but in practice, they end up being annoying clusterkittens with people disconnecting all over the place, a chat riddled with useless crap and overflowing maps that proceed at a snail’s pace. The whole thing that introduced the Karkas, for example. Or the start of LS season one (i can’t talk about the rest of it or the ending because the beginning actually drove me away from even trying it out). Or hey, let’s take Tequatl – if you’re on the right map at the right time (Coordination between Commanders, multiple groups, people actually know where to go and what to shoot), he’s toast. If you’re on the wrong map at the wrong time (something as simple as not enough people being there is enough), it’s pointless to even try. That is not exactly fun to me.

Personally, i find the big boss-events are quite enough of the stereotypical “MMO experience” for me, for better or worse. And they’re entirely optional, which is a really nice thing.
When i want dozens of complete strangers around me, i’ll go to a boss. But i would not want that when i try to experience and follow a coherent storyline or learn more about the lore of the world in my own time.

If the setup were the opposite (all males with one female, i.e. the standard setup for everything, see Avengers/Guardians of Galaxy etc…) would you even notice/care? Just saying.

Yeah, i most certainly would care, since it’s the exact same (albeit minor) problem.

Stinkehund.3012

So, i kinda stopped playing for about a year since the whole Lion-Arch-is-in-danger event thing never cought my interest and i was a bit burned-out by the game.
And now Season 2 brought me back – in fact, i enjoyed the story so much, i bought the 3 parts i missed so far, i bought the game for a friend to bring her into it as well and i’m actually disappointed that i missed the first season because while i get the gist of all the characters, it feels like i missed a lot of nice moments with them.
Anyway, i just wanna write this down to.. i dunno, i guess i wanna say Thanks to the designers and get if off my chest.

So here are the things i like about it:

  • Another openly gay couple, behaving like it’s not even worth mentioning. And it shouldn’t be.
  • Diverse characters i actually found myself caring for. Poor Taimi.
  • Being able to do (almost) all of the story-stuff on my own. Don’t get me wrong; it’s an MMO, of course you should play with others – but it’s nice to have all the time in the world to read the lore and the dialoque without having to worry that someone else in your party is getting annoyed waiting for you.

Things i don’t really like:

  • Tying the story-progression into area-events is a bit off-putting. Especially if your timing is BAD enough to miss the event for it, but triggering the next story-step. For instance, one of my characters destroyed the dragon-totem without getting involved in the eventchain before it and that just felt insanely anticlimactic.
  • Unskippable Cutscenes and Dialoque. Both are good, but if i do the story on a toon, it would be nice to be able to jump ahead a bit. I mean, i already saw all of it.
  • The pale Tree being knocked out for everyone. It doesn’t make sense from a story-viewpoint, since players just starting out will not even know why the weird glowy person is lying on the ground there; they’re not at that part of the story yet. From their POV, the Pale Tree Avatar should be just dandy.
  • As a minor point, the party setup – Not only is our group missing a Sylvari to get all the races into it, but except for Braham and potentially the player-character, everyone’s female.

Things I miss in this game.

Had to fix that, both groups cannot coexist without major design changes by game developers.

Err… yes, they can. Those who like the game keep playing it and those who don’t play something else. Coexisting doesn’t mean forcing your way of thinking onto others.

How to report teleport bots/exploiters?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Stinkehund.3012

Stinkehund.3012

What it says in the title – is there a good way to report them at all?
At the moment, all i can do is hope to see them long enough to actually click on them and remember their name (and only if it’s an easy enough name to remember at first glance). Then i put them in my contact list and report them from there.
Needless to say, most bots i “see” (the 2-3 seconds that they’re actually on screen) i can’t report this way – they’re simply too quick or have too weird a name (or even worse, too common a name so i can’t be sure the one i’m reporting is actually the bot or some innocent player who has the same name, but with an extra apostrophe or something).

Screenshots aren’t fast enough and recording my each and every play-session seems a tad too excessive.
So what else is there to do, if anything? Has anyone found a decent solution?

Nope, it happened in Frostgorge Sound as well and i would bet if i port around, the mapchat everywhere would say as much..

I had a ranger as my first character and i still love the class – lots of pets for all kinds of stuff (at the very least, something that might distract an enemy from you and allow you to escape), good ranged damaged and moderately useful melee abilities.
It’s very much a Jack-of-all-trades class in my eyes; it doesn’t really excel at anything, but it’s not useless either. I like that. It gives me more choices.

Badge of (jumping) honor

in WvW

Posted by: Stinkehund.3012

Stinkehund.3012

As long as the stupid honor badges are needed to get a legendary, people will do the JP because for some of us, it’s just faster and more “fun” than running around for hours on end, killing other people. Not everyone likes PvP. Not everyone finds it entertaining to constantly defend the same stupid castles and towers just to collect absolutely meaningless points for their server, which just reset at the end of the week, anyway.
But if you want a legendary, you have to go there, you have to “participate” and that’s that. It’s idiotic and it harms both the people who don’t want to do WvW (because they have to to ever get a legendary) and the ones who do (because people like me basically steal room from the ones who actually WANT to play WvW).

Maybe they should just give you the badges? That way you don’t have to fight those big meanies.

Or maybe there should be a way to effectively combat griefers who do nothing but ruin the fun of other people. Or just get the pve-grinding-aspect out of the whole PvP-equation.

Weaponsmith 1-400?

in Crafting

Posted by: Stinkehund.3012

Stinkehund.3012

Assuming you just want to level up and not discover every recipe, you can make it to 400 with about 5 gold or so.
Even less if you get a crafting-xp booster, stick to just the cheaper Fine Materials and buy the recipes for the rare weapons with karma, then sell those on the TP.

If you were to just buy absolutely everything, I’d guess around 4-5g. If you sell the yellows you make from 375-400 instead of using them, you can make back a solid 50s profit.

Or, if you’re feeling lucky, you can try to salvage them for ectoplasm and sell that.
