Ignore. Simple things guys!
“don’t read if the information is not for you”….that’s such a weak argument…
If your information is not intended for the people on the map…why write in the map-chat? put your message in a whisper or discuss it in guild-chat.
When you type in map-chat you address everyone on the map and should therefore use a language everyone understands, which happens to be english.
to the OP: NO, I’m against introducing the cyrillic alphabet on international servers because it would further encourage language-barriers.

The increasing speed at which you craft materials.
the first 2 weeks of release….before everything got boring and repetitive
The OP wants to hear things we enjoy, take your grief elsewhere.
Just want to step in here for a second to comment on a few speculations:
There will be no mounts, no Cantha and no dragons coming with this story arc.
Sorry if that destroyed some dreams. So… we can rule out Dragons riding in from Cantha on the backs of unicorns then?
so much awesome in that post.
Related, if no dragons, who is cause all the ruckus up in the north? i like the mystery aspect, nice to see some story lines being added.
A icy variation of the karka.
I want to play Guild Wars 2, not Addon-Manager.
It will most likely remain bugged until there’s a server reset. I don’t know when the next one’s going to be though.
By saying ‘Baroque’ I directly think off this one:
But alas, the main instrument is not the flute.
Or… it can be this one… starts off quite bombastic and then you hear a flute doing his solo. I think it might be this one:
Can’t be the ones you linked since they don’t play in Divinity’s reach or Queensdale. The first one plays during sovereing fight with Zhaitan and the second one plays in Plains of Ashford.

The game isn’t dead, but server list will direct you to the wrong servers. An arenanet poster confirmed that the stats you see on the server list (high, full, etc) are the number of players who call that server home, NOT the number logged in at the time. So even if your particular shard says high or full, that particular one could be dead as a door nail. Watch the forums to find which are more lively.
Also keep in mind everyone is in LA and running fractals. There is no real reason to do open world stuff ATM so don’t expect to find many people out there,
This is actually incorrect but I don’t blame you for posting that. The arenanet poster (who was actually just a CC-Community Coordinator) answered in such a misleading way that people started to believe that the serverlist reflects the people who call that server home but in fact it IS the number of people who’re currently logged in. People logging on and off is the only way to explain the daily fluctuations of server-statuses.
Can you post a source? As much as I would like to believe that, we have an arena net poster who directly contradicts that statement.
As for the fluctuations- server transfers still exist, and it is no secret that people are making use of them as much as possible. Transfers to and from servers are happening constantly. So even based on the factual reality that server lists are based on characters present in the server regardless of whether they are logged in or not, the fluctuations are still explainable and expected.
There is no source. It’s just common sense.
There are only two possible explanations why servers fluctuate from very high to high and back on a daily basis.
1) people are creating new accounts every evening and delete them 12 hours later every day
2) people simply go to bed

Yes, tired to hear the same lame argument from people…

To the OP: no, the game is not dead.
there are three hearts in the heart of the mists. you see them when you first enter the zone. they teach you how to ressurect people, how to down them etc…
are you sure you checked frostgorge sound? the northernmost shiverpeak zone is a lvl 70-80 zone but unlike orr it does contain some hearts. speak to the scouts to reveal them.
The reason I make alts in Gw2 is not primarely to try out different classes but to experience different zones. For me it’s more enjoable and “in character” to explore the ascalon-zones with a charr-character, the shiverpeak zones with a norn etc…
And I think some classes still play quite differently. Playing a warrior gave me a totally different experience than playing a mesmer. Of course you still end up killing stuff but you pretty much have that problem in any MMO.
I also think narrowing it down to a smaller number of abilities and builds that are viable is a good thing. I remember in Wow there were a lot more abilities and builds but somehow people always ended up doing the same cookie-cutter build and you were not taken seriously in raids or pvp-circles if you felt experimenting with other builds.
In Gw2 I never feel pressured into specing a certain way.
On the other hand Gw2 might be a bit more forgiving and taking a sub-optimal build is not as obvious as in other MMO’s.
Close this thread already.
Too many people are wasting their time with pointless and primitive rambling here.
OP’s question was already answered several times: No, the game is not dead.
Every time a DE starts there are 5-10 people popping out of nowhere , scaring the kitten out of me and once the event is over, even if I just blink for a second they’re gone! And I’m not talking about Queensdale, I’m talking about zones like Harathi Hinterlands, Blazeridge Steppes etc..
Let’s compare it to WoW:
tumbleweed
oh a player from the other faction on the horizon, hope he doesn’t gank me
more tumbleweed
yeah, GW2 is dead for sure…
Also there will be no new zones in the first half of 2013. Instead they’re going to strenghten/improve core-aspects of the game.
Hey guys,
Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward. This will include providing more details about our goals for the game, information about the stories and features that you’ll see in the Jan/Feb/March releases.
To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.
More details and specifics to come in the next couple of weeks, but I hope that helps provide some more insight into what to expect at a very high level.
I have fun every day in GW2.
There will be no new MMO that will beat it, quite simply.
Putting hopes on TESO is a major mistake guys, it’s exactly like SWTOR – an untested team with no experience cashing in on a major franchise (morrowind to skyrim).
And this folks is the definition of a fanboy. One who equates to thinking.
Game X > Game Y > Game Z rather than Game X + Game Y + Game Z. People like you are the reason that the gaming industry is changing for the bad, your shortsighted fanboy eyes, ruin every game that isn’t the one your pledge your alligence to.
There are amazing MMOS coming out in the future.
Black Desert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNtB5DoJ6OI
ArcheAge http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Jjg-TLBTZXg#t=165s
Elder Scrolls Online http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlEipFtHw7o
Wild StarReally? Those are really minor games with the exception of TESO. You’re talking about games like Tera or TSW there. I’ve played nearly every major MMO that has come out in the last decade, and I can tell you it’s very clear when big things happen.
When WoW came out, that was a big deal. It was so much better than EQ – and yet EQ had its fanboys who defended it to the hilt. The same happened with GW2, it’s a huge leap forward compared to old MMOs, not because everything it does is new but because it ties in all those ideas into a great package, just like WoW did.
Anyway – Elder Scrolls. TESO says you can steal objects in the game world. See crafting mats you need? You can steal it?
Really? Think about that for a moment, an entire server of people able to steal things. There will be nothing on any table in Tamriel within 20 minutes of the servers being switched on.
It’s stuff like that which I find alarming about TESO. It’s being developed by Zenimax (very EA-like company) and not Bethesda (geniuses behind Skyrim etc), and they are marketing it with the same obvious bull that EA used for SWTOR.
GW2 has stayed within reasonable limits. It doesn’t do tank/healer/dps trinity, and has replaced it with a more organic tanky/glass/support type structure. It has dynamic events that allow the game world to “change” but not in impossible ways like TESO would have you believe.
Just be careful about hype. We know what bad hype is: SWTOR, Diablo 3, etc. Compared to those, GW2 has managed to keep a structured MMO game with a great metagame, while also making a lot of cool innovations that actually work within the game.
TESO is full of pipe dreams, and literally no reality to them at all.
Calm down.
You’re taking yourself way too seriously.
If Elderscrolls online is going to be a hit still remains to be seen but don’t destroy other peoples hopes or tell them to forget about it.
we shall see what Elder scrolls online will do….this year 2013 i bet many people will be saying that its MMO of the year…
its a vicious cycle my friends
never ending
TES Online was dead to me the moment it announced a subscription model. If people want to go back to the pay-to-play style of gaming, hey, it’s your money.
And it’s not being built by Bethesda, so it’s honestly not going to be as good as people are drumming it up to be.
Bottom line: it’s not a WoW killer either. In fact it’ll probably hold at right about the same population levels as SWTOR and GW2.
Why does every game have to be thought of as a WoW killer?
Its not even Zenimax or Anet saying it. Its the conumers that say these things. Its the avg joe player that spouts out this prattle…not the devs.
Besides a sub model cost money but from what Ive seen…..many many players who have been playing GW2 have spent hundreds in the Black Lion place. Most have spent enough to pay for a sub fee on a regular MMO for the next year or usually more.
People are dumb enough to see free and think its the best….but over time they start to spend real money in the cash shop to maybe get a boost in leveling since they’ve done it 10 times already and it all adds up anyways.
Cough Ill put this here.
Thank you for the link. That’s awesome!
GW2 is still is by far the best MMO on the market. And growing from a solid base.
Elder Scrolls online is going to be a disaster, it’s not the same team that made Morrowind/Skyrim/etc, it’s a new team of randoms, just like they did with SWTOR (it wasn’t Bioware people, it was randoms brought in by EA).
Nooo, don’t destroy my hopes ;( I hope Elder scrolls online is still going to be great.
Maybe it’s even better when a different team makes it, they might have more experience with MMORPG’s. Anyway it’s waaay to early to judge the game.
Her ability that gives people so much trouble is poison-darts (just like poison-volley from the engineer pistol skillbar). If you dodge her poison volley do you dodge the whole volley or just part of it? Because if you dodge the whole volley you shouldn’t have that much trouble as long as you save up your stamina to dodge the poison-volley.
you know what a dead game is right?
or a dying game.
look at Battllefield 3 / Diablo 3.
For an MMO – GW2 fits the definition of a dying game.
Saw it with Warhammer. Saw it with Age of Conan. Saw it with Star Wars: The Old Republic. The same patterns. And here players don’t even have to pay to play.
“GW2 fits the definition of a dying game”
With a steady population growth and lots of high population servers with increasing economies on all? Well if that’s your definition of a dying game, what is your definition of a growing one?
Next thing, you’ll tell us that CoD Black Ops 2 was a great innovation for the FPS genre.
What game are you playing cause it aint this one I am afraid. When you shed your mass volume of players ala Tor in 4 months there is no issue? Right.
Server status is just the accounts on that server – does no one read what devs write anymore?
They sold 2Mill copies and need place to put them just in case they log a back in. It in no way shape or form means that the server is current running full online 24/7 with concurrent players.
Nope, it’s the amount of players currently logged in. The guy who said that was not a dev but a cc (community coordinator) and wrote it in a misleading way. Servers fluctuate on a daily basis because people log on and off and not because new accounts are created and deleted every 12 hours.

Pick your answer:
1) decide on your own because finding out which class is most fun for you is something only you can do and the process of trying out is half the fun.
2) play mesmer. because it’s awesome and…and… because I said so!
To the OP: Only tackle mobs that are your level or below. Enemies above your level are much stronger. Especially if you’re coming from WoW you have to shift your mindset when it comes to mob-levels.
They said the game begins at level 80, well all I can say is that it ends and not nicely.
No one said the game begins at level 80. The game begins at level 1. Level 80 means nothing; it’s not the beginning nor the end of the game. The game keeps going regardless of what level you’re at.
WvW ; great and unrewarding.
Open world ; awesome and no point.
Legendary ; impossible and no point since people can buy it with dollars.REWARDS, hell, REWARDS, is it so complicated?
What’s happened to people? Is everyone incapable of having fun unless someone gives you a medal for it? WvW is great and unrewarding? So it’s great, then? You have fun in it? Well, that’s the reward. Congratulations. It’s a game, you play it to have fun. That’s it.
Open world has no point? Playing it was the point to begin with. Legendary’s are impossible? Odd that people have them, then. Obviously they’re all millionaires spending thousands of dollars on them.
Look, my point is that Guild Wars 2 is a game. The point of a game is to have fun. That’s it. Not to get shiny objects, or prestige, or ‘rewards’. To have fun.
If you aren’t having fun, why would you play?
This. Thousand times over. Playing the game is reward enough, at least for me.
People nowadays are so difficult to please. Take a trip into a third-world country, stay there for year…and then come back and suddenly you’ll feel very silly having complained about certain features in one of your video games not being rewarding enough.
Every time I log into Gw2 I’m reminded of this:

I’m glad you enjoy the game. Now turn around and run as fast from the forums as you can…and don’t look back!

Catherine Taber on Countess Anises voice.
Ah thanks, didn’t know that. I just looked her up on IMDB and she also voiced Vette from SWTOR.
Dear Lord, what delicious implications …
Stop…stealing…my…thoughts…
Countess Anises voice. Yes, her voice is even hotter than her looks :P
Yes.
I do like Eir as well, but Petra is just so adorable.
Granted adorable isn’t in this topic, but rather hotness is.Catherine Taber on Countess Anises voice.
Ah thanks, didn’t know that. I just looked her up on IMDB and she also voiced Vette from SWTOR.
To the OP:
You just have to give Anet more time to add or change things. You say refusing to add is bad…true, but adding too fast without weighing the consequences is just as bad, that’s how you mess up a game. Lots of people seem to forget that Gw2 was just released a couple of months ago. For MMO standards that’s not a long time.
granted, the sky looks different than in most MMO’s but I started to like it.
The flatness comes from the clouds which seem to be floating way to close to the ground. If you take them away you’ll have your depth, or let’s say the illusion of depth.
I still prefer Anets sky-design over…let’s say Wows. In Wow you were just standing under a sphere and if you looked straight up you could see circles. Always made me feel like living in a christmas snow globe I don’t have the snow-globe feeling in Gw2. Ultimately it’s a matter of taste.
Is it this one?
Edit: could also be this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XRHB8h_vV4

One one hand I’m a bit sad that there will be no new zones, on the other hand it’s probably for the better. I’m glad they’re trying to focus on improving the foundation of the game instead of adding new floors.
What you seem to forget or ignore, is looking at the total number. You have yet to answer my question as to why, on peak hours, there will be 6 to 7 servers full, and then no servers full during off-peak hours.
Once you answer that question logically with your rationale, then maybe I might start to believe you.
As the other person said, you’re arguing against empirical evidence.
It’s not evidence. You’re taking words on your screen and interpreting them in a way that makes sense to you. There’s a disconnect between what info we are given and the conclusions that should be drawn. None of us can connect the two, only Anet can if they choose.
But Acidic Vision and many other people in this thread made the connection and it’s a totally logical explanation why we have these fluctuations during different times of the day. Of course we can connect the two things, we’re thinking human beings.
I think it’s quite obvious that the fluctuations come from people going to bed/waking up. The original post from the dev (was he even a dev?) was just written in such a misleading way that was prone to misinterpretation.
That particular post everyone always quotes is so misleading it should have never been written. Servers fluctuate from high to very high and back because people log on or off, therefore it reflects the amount of people playing at the given time.
What about the people who want to do both? Pvp and Pve? Where do they go?
Making pvp and pve servers makes sense in WoW since you can opt whether you want to be attacked by the enemy faction or not.
There are player controled characters in every city, just not as many as in Lion’s Arch, the central city you’re looking for. You can reach Lion’s Arch by a pink Portal located in every major city.
You can start Pvp at lvl 2. Just click the pvp-menu on the top left corner and find the button “go to the mists”. You’ll find yourself in the pvp-lobby. From there you can join the different battlegrounds. If you want to do WvWvW open the score-tab and click “Go to World vs World”.
Countess Anises voice. Yes, her voice is even hotter than her looks :P
Hmm, I’m in europe and I didn’t get an update (yet). When was the last time you logged into Gw2? Maybe you’re downloading the wintersday-update from mid december?
Please don’t fall for the troll…@Varani and Chrissle.
To the OP: sadly there’s no way to be 100% sure about the current GW2 numbers. I was looking for a site similiar to wow-census but couldn’t find anything.
Must be broken for you, I move 145x faster with my character. Report it.
That’s wrong. 33% is the cap.
These high respawn rates can be really annoying. For example in demongrub pits (Queensdale jumping puzzle) there’s this last cave with the chest in it and tons of oozes and there’s no way to kill even half of them before respawning starts.
Maybe Anet did it on purpse so it’s difficult to solo the cave and getting to the chest?
Did the cave you mentioned had a chest @ HeliaXDemoN?
More DE’s would be a good thing but more VARIETY in DE’s would be even better.
I’ve actually been wondering about that. They go on and on about “horizontal” progress than slap 80 frigging levels to the game right from the get go. I mean most MMOs don’t have that high level caps until after like their third or fourth expansion.
I think they had to choose such a high number because the experience-cap for the next level always stays the same. Either do it like WoW (classic): 60 levels but you need more and more exp for the next level or like GW2: 80 levels but you always need the same amount of exp.
It will probably not change because less people would buy dyepacks in the store therefore less money for Anet. A shame, really.
Can I just use this thread to tell everyone how much I hate these god kitten princess dolls?
Always mind your manners!
Take into consideration that enemies above your level are not just “a bit stronger” (like in WoW) but will actually kick your kitten especially if it’s a personal storyline mission. Make sure you’re above their level or at least on the same level and they won’t be able to kill you in 4 hits anymore.
But it seems you already gave up and won’t play Gw2 anymore. But thank you very much for letting us know. Goodbye.
“The world is not in your maps and books (and dungeons), it’s out there”
-Gandalf
You could do more Dynamic events for example. Or crafting. Or the jumping puzzle (demongrub pits for Queensdale). If anything else fails you can visit another starting zone or do some WvWvW.
My guess is that the devs will indeed expand into all of those areas eventually this year, with Cantha and Elona to be particularly large expansions.
I also hope they’ll expand into (at least some) of these areas eventually. The artdesign of Gw2 is beautiful and I can’t wait to see what else the developers can come up with.
I highly doubt they’ll expand into all of these areas in 2013 though…
(edited by Straylight.7408)
I’m not going to list one more time every valid argument that we’re giving for months now…
I haven’t even logged for 3 months, and I don’t plan to do so.Forum is now at the “nearly-full-of-fanboyz” step. There is no more real feedback possible, and anyway devs didn’t pay attention to us in the beta (even alpha), it’s too late.
I was hoping gw2 would be the great game I was told, but obviously it is not and there’s no more hope to make things change. The game, in every aspect, is following the same path as many games lately.
Old fans betrayed, ignored, even despised. Forums full of negative feedbacks, and still, fanboyz arguing “you don’t like it? Leave! Most of the players love this game the way it is”.
And people left, forums went full of happy players, and game emptied more and more.Difference being, I was telling on the other forums that “Gw2 would prove how excellent a game can be”, and even “this game is dead the day gw2 is released”. Nice try. Nice joke.
Denial is not gonna prevent the same things to happen to gw2 in any way.
But sadly, 1 person buying gems is worth more than 10 leaving.
Yes, we understand you’re disappointed with the game but why don’t you give Arenanet some constructive feedback?
What would you change?
There are at least as many doomsayers than fanboys on these forums. Bashing the game without constructive feedback is allowed…but ultimately won’t motivate Anet to change anything.
I think many people are unhappy because they burnt through the content at such a fast pace that there isn’t anything left to do for them anymore. But that’s their own mistake. It’s like reading all 5 books of Game of Thrones in two weeks and then complain to G.R.R Martin that you feel bored waiting for Volume 6&7.
I love GW2 so far and I see myself playing for several months at the least. I’m only a casual player so I have lots of the game to experience still but I can’t say I’m bored with it. If I do get bored I’ll just stop playing, wait for some content patch to arrive and play that
That’s the thing I like about GW2 – it’s very casual friendly and I don’t feel like I’m forced to keep playing to keep up. I can just play a little bit when I want and then stop playing if I get bored.
See? People like him are happy because he has the correct attitude towards gaming. He takes his time like reading a good book.
What strikes me is that many complaints remind me of the way lots of people seem to live their lives – always full speed, brain disengaged, rushing towards whatever goal is up next, as if maintaining a constant high stress level is the primary objective of life.
I kinda agree with the OP here. I was so hyped up for the game, even pre-ordered the game for 3 day head start. The no trinity sounds promising, and all classes can range/melee sounds cool as well.
But after playing I find that the no trinity and all classes can do everything makes everything homogeneous. The world bosses and dungeons are just a gankfest. And there aren’t any real gear upgrades at level 80, so you’ve experienced the content once there’s really no point of keep grinding the dungeons. Theres no satisfaction of getting more powerful as you keep playing like most rpgs.
This is a cool game and I do want it to keep going. I’ve stopped playing a while ago and now getting back to check it out. But I just don’t find any incentive to play. I dunno about other people but running around the map or spending hours collecting and grinding for a gear that only looks better isn’t gonna cut it for me.
Maybe Anet did not want to create a game where you have to grind dungeons over and over again. Maybe they wanted to aim their game at a playerbase who hates dungeongrinding….like me! I always hated grinding dungeons in WoW (because I think it’s the most pointless thing ever) and I’m so glad I don’t have to grind dungeons in Gw2 anymore.
If you enjoy grinding dungeons (and you have every right to enjoy that, it’s personal preference afterall) why don’t you play that other MMO who offers that?So many people on this forums who don’t realize that Anet wants to be different instead of copying the same principles over and over again.
You grind dungeons for skins/legendaries. Same difference, just that here you ALSO grind WvW and PvE. (And now Fractals, the same 5? over and over and over and…)
If you are not the grind type then there is NOTHING to do in this game.
What are you doing when you play this game?
I wrote that in my last message, you might have missed it.
Yes grinding is boring, and I also do not enjoy grinding. But isn’t doing the same dungeons and getting a legendary also a grind? It’s just a grind for looks instead of stats.
If you don’t grind dungeons or grind gear then what do you do in this game? Unless you really like the dungeons, and don’t care if the gear is better or not, then good for you
I’m trying to explore all the zones (at roughly 50% right now). I guess I’m just not playing that much. But I can understand for someone who does, he/she will hit a wall at some point where there isn’t much to do anymore. But isn’t that the beauty of GW2? You can play something else and come back when there’s more to do. No subscription.
Burst my bubble? What bubble? Just stating the fact that Gandara is dead. The game will definitely need a server merge if it is to survive much longer.
It’s not a fact. Try logging into the game before posting, get your FACTS straight and stop your worthless trolling. You appear on every thread posting misinformed non-sense, total garbage without ANY basis.
Finally someone said it. Nayru is doing nothing but provoking and hate-spewing all day long.
On topic: I’m playing on Aurora Glade and LA is the only map in need of an overflow. Other zones appear very healthy though. I can’t remember the last time where I was forced to do a DE alone. There are people everywhere. I’m sure the numbers will drop after the holidays but GW2 dying out? no way…
