Thank you eternal! I feel the same. Abyss x3, celestial x5.

I don’t think there should be a way to tell between real vs. “fake” items, but I do feel like I should be compensated for what I put my effort into for now essentially nothing. 250ectos for a skin that I already had now suddenly doesn’t matter. And 2 abyss dyes is not the same as an abyss and unidentified dye; sorry ANet, but that’s not much of a compensation.

The key word skin is something that appears to be misunderstood. Items are not only skins and they are not only stats, they are both. I can understand making a 2nd backpiece simply for the skin, but the point is that you still have an ascended backpiece regardless. To say that it is nothing is incorrect. I can see your dilemma, but at the same time, there’s a limit to how far you can take things out of context. In regards to the dye, I personally didn’t have that issue, but I can agree that it’s not equal compensation, but that’s not really on topic for this thread.

Yes, I have ascended stats on both characters now, but the difference is I could have had the same stats AND skins for 500e and, f I remember correctly, 1000 fractal relics less. That’s over 150g for nothing; not to mention the amount of time it took to gather the 1000 fractal relics that went down the drain as well.

I suppose to me the look of the back was also very important since IMO the frac back is still prettier than dwayna or other backs. So I grinded for both stats and look. I have since given all my non-ascended back characters the fractal skin and still feel like I’ve cheated myself. Haha.

I only got the fractal capacitor for looks. If I wanted it for stats, I would have either gone with a cheaper ascended backpiece like a quiver or just stopped after it was ascended and not spent the 500e on each…

Fractal backs x4. It was a lot of grind and money. Now anyone with 1 back can have the skin across all their characters. I’m having fun looking at my “dual” wielding legendaries but at the same time can’t seem to stop thinking about all those who grinded for their gear only now left to wonder who really did and didn’t do what. Mixed emotions.

The skin may be unlocked account wide, but stats aren’t. Are you saying you’re characters aren’t benefiting from the stats that the fractal back pieces give?

I made 2 fractal backpieces, and it’s actually pretty disappointing considering I invested ~150g worth of ectos in each. Now that’s wasted since I can use the skin on anyone. Moreover, if I really wanted the stats, I didn’t have to spend the extra 75g just to upgrade the skin, or I could have just constantly transferred the backpiece from character to character, since they’re account bound now. Basically a huge waste of 150g for me, and that’s just the fractal capacitor…not including my multiple abyss/celestial dyes, weapon skins, etc…

Yeah I don’t really know any of the characters between Braham and Rox….so that explains it.

Why were the wintersday skins reintroduced?

The Eternal Grace.3157

It’s not “I don’t want anyone else to be able to get it!”, it’s a simple factor of “I don’t want everyone to have it”…especially with how the market was already flooded.

And not EVERYBODY will use it. Sure, the market is flooded with enough skins that everybody who wanted a Princess Wand skin can get one, but ask yourself this. How many people do you actually SEE wielding one? Just because everybody has access to a skin doesn’t mean they’ll use it.

That’s true, but at the same time, I’m guessing there would be quite a few more people using it if it were more exclusive. Right now with the flooding and the price, it makes it not different to use than say a beginning level 10 skin from Queensdale. It’s flooded, everyone has one, and it doesn’t look that great, so what’s the point of using it?

For example, what would be the point of using my fiery dragon sword skin from GW1 HoM if everyone was still able to get it in GW2? There wouldn’t be a point, because probably everyone would have it. It adds uniqueness and prestige to your items.

I sure as hell would still use mine. I have fond memories of my FDS from GW1 and I’m using it in GW2 because I’m roleplaying it as an heirloom handed down from my GW1 Warrior to my GW2 Warrior.

I couldn’t care less if 1,000,000 other players used the FDS. All I care about is that I like the way the item looks on MY character. Why should I care about what other people are using? They could all be using Bolts or Wooden Swords and it still wouldn’t make a lick of difference to me; I don’t like either of those skins, so I won’t be using them. End of story.

That isn’t the end of story. I don’t want to look like every other player out there. I want to be unique, because in life, I am not exactly like anyone else. It’s nice to get a PUG in your party to say “Oooh, nice [insert item]. Where did you get that?” vs. thinking “Ok, another fricking copy of every other Mesmer in the game” or something similar.

Sorry for the double-post, but if it is an argument for exclusivity, like you said that’s what it really is, why can’t I get the achievements from previous living stories (especially last Wintersday)? Why can’t I get the mini from a previous meta? Why can’t I do the dungeon from the Flame & Frost (other than bits in Fractals, obviously)? Because this game really is all about exclusivity. It’s the right to say “I was there at [insert time] and did [insert accomplishment].”

If you don’t want exclusivity, I’d honestly say don’t play GW2.

I WOULD like to see achievements from previous Living Stories return, if it made sense for them to do so.

However, you don’t. So why are people who didn’t get the achievements getting ripped off and the people who didn’t get the skins aren’t? Personally I think it should be the other way around. Achievements should be something everyone should be able to ‘achieve’ where items should be something you have to earn/buy. Anet has very backwards logic sometimes.

Because everyone hated that they didn’t bring back the Halloween skins. Thus they’ve brought back the Wintersday skins to avoid a similar situation. This thread along with the “re-revert the Grenth Hood” thread are the most indisputable proof I’ve yet seen that you can never please everyone.

I LOVED that they didn’t bring back Halloween skins and made new ones. It gave me hope for the future of this game.

And how did you miss the other 18 new skins they released with this patch for armor. Just because some people dont like them doesnt make them not count.

Those skins aren’t Christmas skins, they’re skins that could have been thrown into any update and they just had them ready by this one. It doesn’t not make them count as skins, but it doesn’t count as Christmas skins.

Man, logic sure sucks doesnt it, it makes everyone on here whinning sound like a bunch of idiots.

You’re right, logic does suck! Why are the 5 minis and Christmas weapons the only thing available again? Why not the achievements from last year?

I totally forgot about the fact that the skins were only a few silver each because the market was so over-flooded from last year…it’s perfectly logical that Anet brings back items that were already over-flooded in the market…duh! How could I be so foolish?

Remember when the Super Adventure Box came back with new skins, but none of the previous ones? That was a bad idea

I disagree. I thought it was a great idea. If you played through the first part of SAB like everyone else, you got rewarded for it in a way that no one else could after that. If you really want the skin, there’s the TP.

…Halloween was quite a disappointment because of that, among other things.

Again, disagree. That was one of the best parts of Halloween…they didn’t recycle skins for no reason. Again, more rewarding to the actual veterans at this game who were here since last October.

So, no. Being able to obtain all the skins from last time is a good thing, since this event only happens around this time of year. All these arguments for exclusivity (because that’s what it really is) all sound like this: “I got this, now I don’t want anyone else to be able to get it!”

And, of course, I disagree yet again. I think being able to obtain all the skins for last time is a terrible thing. Like you said, the event happens every year, so why do they have to recycle the same things, too? It’s not about exclusivity, it’s about a collection. What good is a coin collection if every coin made in the 1800s was still made today? It’s what makes you stand out from the crowd and be able to say “Yeah, I’ve been playing since Christmas 2012” or at least prestigious enough to be able to say “I had enough money to buy them.”

It’s not “I don’t want anyone else to be able to get it!”, it’s a simple factor of “I don’t want everyone to have it”…especially with how the market was already flooded. Right now, the Halloween skins are the best thing that’s happened with the Super Skins right behind.

good for new players…..and honestly, we don’t need new skins every update (and they would only be christmas-kitch anyway.

i’d rather they just introduce new skins every few months and make them count (jade dragon quality), than every 2 updates (existing skin w/ new glow).

Jade dragon quality? You want similarly colored weapons that look as though they where made to be put in a dollar general store, and have a tacky dragon worked into every model? Dear god I hope that isn’t the highest quality Anet holds themselves to.

I agree. Personally, I hated the jade dragon skins.

The Eternal Grace.3157

Why not introduce them? Something you can only get once a year isn’t restrictive enough? Having an unique character should be done by the player’s own creativity not having an item that no other person has.

Though I do like the idea of more weapon and armor options. The more options the better the ability for the player to make their character more unique.

It’s not like they were account/soul-bound. The market was flooded and it would have been easy to buy them if you really wanted. If you missed it, that’s too bad. Either deal with the fact that you won’t have them or buy them off the TP, just like the Halloween skins and other events.

It adds uniqueness and diversity between people, which is something this game is really lacking.

Surprised no one has pointed out that the OP got new skins. 3 count them, 3 new back piece skins. One of which is not tied to a random number generator. Also a new full set of armor for all 3 weight classes. I know hes upset about not getting new weapons skins this year, but I didnt see anyone complaining about not getting new armor and back piece skins last year. Perspective; it really is everything.

Because what we need is more back pieces, right?

It isn’t about not getting new skins, it’s about recycling old ones.

I’m personally pleased that Wintersday is much the same as last year. I’ve never been a fan of exclusivity. A new player should have the same opportunity to get an item as an older player. The move to allow old event skins buyable via Black Lion Weapon tickets was a stroke of genius, in my opinion. (Which makes it all the more strange that the 2012 Halloween skins weren’t added.)

The old achievements not returning is unfortunate, but I suspect it’s due to the way ANet coded the achievement system; it just can’t be done at this point due to technical reasons. Maybe in the future they’ll find a way to revamp it.

If a newer player wants a skin from a previous event, I think they either should have been playing at that time or pay a price on the TP.

That’s why I said the Black Lion Weapon tickets were a stroke of genius. They’re expensive enough that their “prestige” isn’t destroyed (for those who are concerned about such things), but it allows all players who may not have been around at the time to still have the chance to get it. IMO, all other event skins should get this treatment.

I miss the GW1 style of obtaining items…do the work, get the item, and it goes away. Then if you missed it, buy it from players. Not “get lucky, get the item, and have it keep coming back for easy recycle”.

It’s been known for a while that a lot of the Wintersday content would be recycled from year to year. This isn’t really new information. It’s how ArenaNet has been handling their holiday events for the past 8 years.

I think it’s great that people that missed the event last year are able to have another shot at it this year. I know some of my friends were unable to do parts of it due to other obligations and they’re overjoyed that they’re going to be able to participate in it this year.

There’s still plenty of new stuff that’s been added to make it worth playing through the content again.

Yes, Anet has been recycling its holiday events, but they’ve never been lazy enough to recycle the rewards as well.

You aren’t owed new skins…

I would love to point out that costume skins were only added to GW1 very late in the games life cycle. Yes holiday events always had new hats, but that was just two hats per holiday which is a lot less difficult than anything GW2 does.

No, I am not owed new skins, but as a loyal customer/player to Anet and Guild Wars, it’s disappointing to see them recycle content instead of giving a unique reward for each year/event like they did in the original Guild Wars.

It was nice that each year had its own sets so those weapons/minis would be unique to the players who participated in them. The TP was already way over-flooded with the Christmas skins from last year; if you really wanted one of those, you could have bought it from there for a few silver, at most.

Compensation for getting reset to level 30?

in Fractured

Posted by: The Eternal Grace.3157

The Eternal Grace.3157

I currently have 2 level 50 characters getting affected by the new fractal changes. They are not only set back 20 levels, but also leveling the second one is completely meaningless now that the fractal level is account bound.

I wonder if there are any plans to reward players for the lost levels, like for example a double daily chest until they catch up to their previous level? And maybe an ascended weapon chest with selectable stats per additional character leveled over 30?

I wouldn’t count on anything. I’ve got multiple character involved in FotM…level 45, level 32, level 25, level 15, and 2-3 at level 10. Would kinda seem fair to somehow make up for this loss, but it’s Anet so don’t expect anything.

Does it need bug fixes and maybe some small revamps to make it more fun? Yes
Was it perfect? No
Does it need to be deleted? No

Point is, Anet would rather be lazy and delete content that needs fixing rather than actually work and fix it.
