Patch notes: PvP only?

I read the patch notes from a few days ago which I see made some nice balance changes to classes and explained the current issue and why the change was made. Which is great.

But why are all these changes “PvP only?” They present an issue and then show a change as a way to fix it, but only fix it in PvP and not WvW or PvE. I really don’t get it.

Before the “Guard” shout was changed, it allowed a pet to guard an area instead of following the player.

Is there any way to get this to happen since the change? Some way to get your pet to stop moving and just stay somewhere?

For Bitterfrost, once I do the story I can enter the area with any character. For Lake Doric, however, it isn’t letting me enter. It seems I have to do the first mission to get a character in there. I did it on a couple characters and I really tired of it, I have a lot of characters.

Is there any way to enter the area without having to do the story on every character?

I tried that but I still die. I did notice that one time when I tried it every other jump I’d avoid damage, so maybe there a certain way you need to time it?

Dying in water isn’t too fun either.

But you can circumvent dying in those wild waters!

I don’t have the first two episodes unlocked so I can’t rate them.
1. Bitterfrost. The most fun map ever to be added to GW2. I never felt like there was a lack of something to do. Flying over the terrain was also very refreshing.
2. Lake Doric. Almost always something to do, and some challenging but fun enemies to fight.
3. Draconis. I’m not one for a pretty looking map, for me this map is just a lack of content and I don’t enjoy exploring it. Dying in water isn’t too fun either.

I sure need to get my gems out and try the other maps though, I can tell I’m missing out after reading this thread.

Maybe if you’re only thinking about the way it looks this map is better, but the maps for Episodes 3 and 4 were far more enjoyable and were absolutely fantastic. They both brought me back from a lack of activity. I had a great time playing on them. The episode 5 map severely lacks fun content.

I don’t understand how you didn’t like bitterfrost. It was the only map where I felt there was always something to do, so fun and so addicting.

The Episode 5 map on the other hand… finding actual content is like finding a needle in a haystack. I tried to do the story today and instead spent hours trying running around not being able to find what I wanted to. I don’t know how on earth anyone can think it’s find to run around a map with close to no events, nothing fun to fight, nothing to find, and no clues as to how you’re supposed to get anywhere.

And before you tell me I’m dumb and just have no sense of exploration, I am a massive Breath of the Wild fan and the reason for that is because areas that are hard to get to require you to actually think strategically on how get around and it has a lot of fun content along the way. As apposed to the GW2 Episode 5 map, which doesn’t let me climb up 99% of the ways I try to climb, blocks off almost every place I try to go, and leaves me with nothing to do along the way.

So please someone tell me how they’re enjoying this Episode … I’d really like to find the motivation to finish this story.

I was a huge fan of the maps released this living world season. This one, however, is the exception. The story is great, but it’s not a lot of fun when 90% of your time is spend not knowing where to go to continue it. I get that the insane amounts of hills and layers is supposed to try to get us to explore, but by leaving so few ways to get around it just doesn’t work. I don’t even know if my sanity can handle finishing the great story coming along with this update.
I also feel like because of how crazy difficult it is to get anywhere I am actually missing out on so much content. On the other maps because I know where I’m going, I have no problem with stopping and trying out the events or content in the area. But on this map I don’t have time for it because I need to spend all my time just trying to get up the same mountain dozens of times.

I’ve really been loving this living world series. But please avoid making these maps that are so difficult to explore and take in, it really ruins the fun of the great content going along with it and demotivates me from exploring. At the very list let us explore how we want instead of making only one or two ways to get everywhere.

All you get from raising cooldowns is lower skill cieling, especially if you do it for every class.

Which is somehow worse than uncounterable “I win” buttons? As long as all classes have short cooldowns, that means the player who is consistantly the best wins, holding class matchups and stuff.

Actually no. The low cooldowns are very forgiving on inexperienced players who are less punished for mistiming their skills and having consistent access to blocks and stun breaks. This applies in the reverse scenario too, experienced players are less rewarded for landing skills and have less incentive to manage cooldowns. To sum it up, the margin for error is much wider in today’s state of balance.

Having higher cooldowns means you have less skills to hit. Something to consider is that while your cooldowns may be shorter, so are you opponents. So it doesn’t make much sense to say that there is a wider margin of error in today’s balance.
Think about like this, let’s I have a skill I can use 5 times in one fight and so does my opponent. Let’s also say my opponent is a skilled player who will likely hit all 5 attacks. To be at an equal level of skill I need to hit all 5 attacks. If we both had 4 attacks, I would only need hit 4 of them, which would be easier. If we only had 1 chance to use the skill, I only need to hit once to be at an equal footing against my more skilled opponent who can hit the skill very accurately.

What I’m trying to say is that lower cooldowns means more chances to hit for skilled players but more chances to miss for less skilled players.

These changes are solid. I like that skill splitting is being done regularly. I like the buffs to core guardian and DH shave.

I do NOT like engi changes. Hammer is untouched?! Hammer is still king, both in terms of damage and utility. It will take more than minor rifle buffs to get people to switch over. The rifle itself even might need to be reworked globally.

That being said, I remind myself that this is only a preview of tomorrow and what it will bring.

I honestly think hammer builds are easy to counter. I used to be a big engineer player but that is no longer the case. I never liked scrapper builds because players would just dance around me. And I find the same thing to be the case when I fight against scrappers; it’s easy to kite them.

The problem with torch 4 and moving is that 3/15 times you cast torch 4 if the enemy moved 1 pixel to the right the skill will travel to hit something else on a different galaxy and I’m sure most ppl have noticed this aswell.

Conditions will destroy DHs. DH is one of the last classes to mark as broken… if you think they are overpowered then you just don’t know how to fight them.
Meanwhile I can kill anyone with my mesmer in 2 seconds. If you want an easy mode class there you go.

Engineer was already pretty dead before this patch. I like how they said they buffed abilities that are less used, yet they did absolutely nothing to turrets which no one uses.

There is an area in the crafting area in your home borderland where you do not get the disabled siege placement and invincibility.

I am able to place siege if I stand in that spot. It’s very precise, if I gave my movement key a tap I would no longer be in the area.

Honestly warriors are much more OP than thieves. Thieves are only OP if the person playing on one is good. If you know what you’re doing they aren’t that bad and if the person using the thief isn’t very good then they are not hard to kill at all.

Now condi thieves that literally kill you from stealth… that’s a whole other story.

Celestial would be a no go. I believe it was used early on in PvP though.

Currently using a mix of Berserker/Soldier/Knight gear myself.

Isn’t it decent with bombs? Hammer will give your power damage, and bombs for condi damage.

Soldiers would deal very little damage wouldn’kitten I do like to be a bit tanky but I think that’s a bit too much for me.

Is celestial good on a scrapper? I know it was used a while ago.

With the way it is now: no. The matches are way too often the same and solo roaming isn’t even a thing anymore.

There’s a lot of things I like about the world linking but it is just not fun the way it is set up right now. The servers that are teamed up need to change every once in a while. I don’t see what’s wrong with teaming up multiple small servers as well. It’ll increase the population while keeping the blobs away.

The lack of stability is killing me, I just get perma stunned constantly, and I don’t have any leaps besides rocket boots which almost never works because I get stunned mid jump.

I also get kited very easily.

I have just recently come back to the game, the last time I played was before Heart of Thorns came out. My main class was engineer and I roamed with it all the time, I am from a very small server.

With the server merges, I pretty much just get run over by blobs all day. I almost never get a 1v1 anymore, roamers are always in groups of 5-10. I’ve mainly used a scrapper build.

The game has obviously changed quite a lot since HoT, and I think I want to try using a different class as my main. I like having mobility, and I don’t really like glassy classes. I prefer being able to deal a good amount of damage over time while being able to take some hits. I’d also like it if there’s a good way to avoid being run over by blobs all the time.

Does anyone have a class/specialization that may work out for me?

There’s ups and downs to the merge. I no longer have to deal with being the only person defending objectives and watching my whole BL flip by 5 people while me and like 2 other people are the only ones defending it.

On the flip side, solo roaming is pretty much kill. I’m not going to 1v5 people and 90% of people roam in groups. Solo roaming is basically running away or dying over and over. There’s also no running from the blob wars.

Back when I was one of few who played WvW, everything I did had value. I became a skilled player because I had to learn to fend for myself. I often defended objectives by myself against small groups, had to decide what was worth taking/defending. Anything I did had a huge impact on the score even though I don’t even have a commander tag. This is not the case with the merge, I’m just a random guy in a huge blob now. Not a huge fan of this, but I guess it’s better for more casual play.

Reducing the point tick is great, as well as making player kills worth more points.

Still no fan of this whole night capping thing which really is not a problem. I can agree to reduce the point slightly but not make it 3 times less….

Can’t really put a judgment on the whole skirmish thing, seems like something I’d have to try out. I voted for QoL on the poll because I don’t see any problem with scoring besides the point tick issue and the lack points given for player kills, so I see no need for this skirmish thing.

Basic things I wanna see unless they completely remake them:

- Turrets can crit

- Reflect bubble thing activates everytrime whenever you use the active ability in addition to its current effect.

- reduced cds, improved attack speed

- turrets are affected by boons

Health increase would be nice. They should give them bonus health in PvElike necro minions.

Its 2 AM and work in 4 hours so I am tired so please forgive me. Trying to understand what you meant, so your thoughts are they never ramp up, but start at a base level and then downscale from there based on number of allies? Or am I mis-understanding your idea?

I think I may have misunderstood what you wrote originally, are you saying that the lord should scale down with more allies present or less?

I am saying scale down with more allies present. But I also want it to scale up if there are no allies present too. It should be challenging if no defenders are present.

I believe Lord scaling needs to be toned down. Lord room fights should be about fighting people, not having to fight the Lord for 10 minutes plus players.

Wolfe, agree and disagree here.

Lord should scale to match the enemy force, but should scale down based on the allies present. You don’t want to further encourage or assist the empty take.

There are tons of opportunitys for 1-5 man groups in T1. Vastly more now than there were a few weeks ago.

Sorry but if you can’t handle high pop roaming, and I say this as someone closing in on 2k wvw rank from roaming/havoc in sub 10 man groups ….

Get Good….it ain’t that hard….

Can I see you take out a 200 man blob? In lower population servers roamers actually get fights. In high population servers they get run over by blobs.
Players transfer to lower tiers to get away from blobs so they can have real fights that actually require skill, not 500 people throwing their faces at each other.

So you actually want a map with very low population? My server has had that for the past 18 months and it’s caused me to uninstall the game. This new patch and beta event has not only got me to reinstall but I’m having a great time and making new friends.

Everyone has their own preferences, I personally like medium sized maps, others like small maps. I can’t stand blob fights, so I prefer smaller sized servers where skill matters much more. You really learn to become good at the game when you are put in a difficult situation.
