It’s only one subpar guild that focuses on only subpar gameplay. It has nothing to do with the state of necro whatsoever.
Necro is basically invincible in wvw right now.
Most ranger/druid skills offer absolutely nothing to wvw gameplay and most rangers/druids seem to be newcomers to wvw based on their overuse of LB4 (counter intuitive to wvw gameplay) and LB5 (which essentially roots you while doing almost no damage to anything). Most are overconfident in their abilities and easy to kill. Too many rangers/druids in a zerg will usually get the entire zerg killed, and most of the better commanders will usually just kick them from the squad.
Hopefully this will prevent most guards from just 1,1,1ing.
Trying to take a keep in WvW a bit ago. Someone jumped up on the right hand wall to disable siege, so I used Spectral Grasp on him. I missed him, but I actually yanked 2 other people down from the LEFT wall.
I thought it was cool.
I know its a ban for me for this, but I wanted to say good job to those who put together these pieces of the story 3 years ago. Good job Anet for tying up some loose ends.
The game engine is designed around your CPU, not your graphics card. Every time someone comes into contact with you (ie – shows up on your screen) your CPU has to process every single thing they do, from their armor to their skills to their movements. Your CPU has to process that information, make a decision of what it is going to do with it, and then execute it. With every. Single. Person. Around you.
There are only two ways to make it faster: 1) Upgrade your CPU, or 2) Lower your graphics.
The 2k rewards arent for new players. #notyourpvecandy
If I could upvote, I would
IMHO they need to RAISE the requirement to at least 3k on the T3 armor. It is a reward for those who have actually put in the time/effort, not for those wanting a new shiny. There needs to be something that distinguishes veteran WvW players from fair-weather players with entitlement issues.
If you want the T1 Triumphant armor set, you can already get it easy enough through the WvW rewards track. It should take you about 2 weeks to get a full set, tops.
Populated maps are usually queued and those trying defend/work against larger servers get rewarded for doing so.
Brilliant on Anets part, imho.
1) So thankful for the queues.. means people are playing wvw again.
2) Reduce graphics settings or you will get lag in large scale fights. We’ve all known this since like 2013.
3) ???
4) Profit.
No.
/15characters
shush if you let everyone know that ill never find a good group to yolo. also that’s just a tad exaggerated. I can only generate downs against 15 on my own, not actually wipe the group most of the time.
You sound amazing. Can we start a fangirl club for you?
I retract my previous statement about Plaguelands in WvW… people ARE stupid enough to stand in it. It has been incredibly useful each time I have used it, -chokes, seige, zerg pushes-, way better than Plague ever was.
Good job Anet! I also like that Epi hits much more consistently now, so Double Good Job Anet!!
It can be dodged still, which it couldn’t before.
IMHO, this was a huge nerf. When you had Chilling Darkness and Deathly Chill traited, all you had to do was spam 2 in Plague and you would get a 1s Blind, 2s Chill, and 5s Bleed that would pulse/stack every second AND you would get 20s of stability on top of it so you could move completely through a zerg and nail almost everyone.
Now you have to drop it and hope someone either runs through it or is stupid enough to stand in it. Might be good for static pve champs or something, so maybe Necros can be good in raids now??
Ok, so I found this video which explains a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6cEYUuy1kE
So if 20-24k sucks, what is actually good dps?
Edit: Using BGDM.
Played with my full bleed/chill condi necro today in Bloodstone, and I epid the Jade Bow and it hit the Jade Armor. I “only” got to 14k dps (ticking 12k bleeds + all other condis).
Fast forward to WvW tonight on my Rev. Did a single CoR into the SMC Lords room and “only” pulled 13k dps (about 12k dmg each to 5 targets in a row).
BGDM shows most everyone else hovering around 3-5k dps… I’m wondering how in the world 24k dps is considered underpowered??

So awesome to hear your thoughts as you fight, that you are not just random button pushing but you have a very calculated method for taking people down. I have also wondered why you hardly ever stomp, but now I realize its because they make really good rallybots if someone else joins in.
I would love to see another one of these after you slam a couple of red-bulls
That’s super interesting. For some reason I thought that Epidemic hit AFTER the animation, and not at the start of it.
I like how you were running away at the end and a Necro GS claw reached out and grabbed you. They are learning
I insta-downed an Anet dev earlier this week using this build, so I expect it will be toned down a bit soon. Enjoy it while you can.
BG only comes out to fight doors, so Mag is going to T2.
Yeah, it works great with vipers. Good find.
The sickest build. That ranger that peeled off the zerg at the beginning was probably questioning reality while he uninstalled the game.
Also, thx for the shoutout on the other vid. I personally administered a 12k bleed tick this morning, so yeah… I was totally wrong
(edited by Thustlewhumber.7416)
The way the game has always worked is that if you specialize in ONLY ONE thing, then it is OP. Every class has this, and necros have finally gotten ONE thing to specialize in at the loss of a lot of other things (just like every other class). I am personally happy that necros cant be 1/1/1/ed to death any more, and that you need a bit of skill to take one down now instead of using your ONE thing to burst them down.
Even at full stacks, bleed is still only ticking like 3 or 4K whereas burn guardians can routinely get 7-8kper tick. So you are asking for a nerf because necros can finally do half the condi damage of a guardian? Give me a break,
I have mained a necro in wvw since launch, currently using the broken viper bleed build – yet for some reason my rev in zerker gear can still get almost twice the dps with more sustain. I love my necro, but I still gravitate towards playing on my rev in almost all situations.
Great vid, btw. I am trying to figure out your combo, it looks like Suffer>Swap Weapon>Reaper>Soul Spiral? Also, are Rise and Plague Signet just panic buttons?
I feel like this thread is trolling us.
As I recall, one particular Commander went to T1 sometime in the first 6-9 months after launch to observe tactics and learned siege placement there. I remember when he came back and explained how it worked. It took him a while to convince people.
I think it was TC from whom he got the details. They, at that time, were reckoned to be the experts when it came to siegecraft as I recall.
Ahh yes, who could forget TC’s famous golem rushes….

IMHO burn guardians are at least 5x more powerful than necro’s epi’s, but at least the possiblity to get an epi off every now and then brings players to wvw. And that is what the focus should really be… How does Anet get more people into wvw? A simple fix would be to increase loot based on rank: a Diamond Legend should be able to get at least the loot equivelant that someone in a top tier Fractals or organized raid is getting. That would keep people in wvw if the knew their rank would increase their rewards. Remember when eotm loot was great? It was overflowing (literally) with people. However all the wvw people I know are broke, especially the commanders.
How about more wvw specific gear? I like the Triumphant stuff, what about cashing in your wvw tokens for wvw specific ascended weapons or back pieces? What about more variety in wvw maps? Desert BL’s are great in theory, but they are way too big to be meaningful in actual gameplay. Split those things into 3 different maps. Why not throw the eotm map into the mix? Why not do more features for small groups/roaming? (Cause Seals would quit…. obviously…)
Back on topic, we really want/need a huge rotation in server fights. We almost had it, but BG overstacked themselves so much that we couldn’t get a good rotation. So we got Mag whose whole purpose in life was to beat BG. Now Mag is roflolstomping everyone, which isn’t fair to the rest of the servers. If we did away with the glicko altogether (which, lets be realistic, is irrelevant if Anet keeps manually moving servers), then it wouldn’t matter what server you were on because you would get rotated each week no matter what the weekly result. Remove the transfer fee temporarily, open all the servers, and let the game settle itself naturally. Couple that with more people coming in, and you got a winning combo. As it sits now, you are punished for transferring to the tune of 1800 gems, you are punished for playing wvw loot-wise instead of sitting in Auric Basin (did that get fixed? You get my point though), and you are punished for having the wrong amount of glicko for the given amount of participation.
Bring back the Devs and Commander meetings!! Make it monthly!!
The real issue is that all the best wvw guilds and players have given up the game because Anet puts more focus on pve content. Hence, they have lost more players overall (as apparent with the pve mega-server and now the wvw server linking.) We have ended up with only a handful of actual serious guilds/players, with the rest being casual players at best which are easily rolled.
I know we have tried for years to get Anet to put more of a main focus on wvw, but it simply isn’t going to happen. Wvw will be reduced to a mega-server like eotm by 2018, and even then we will start having coverage issues. Anet will continue to wonder why they have overall dwindling population and never realize it was because they chose to ignore the one gameplay mode that could’ve saved GW2.
I use it in wvw on my necro power build all the time. 30k GD hits are no joke.
You are already setup for it, so go full power. Obviously take Reaper with Reapers Onslaught, but then take Soul Reaping with Deaths Perception, and Spite with Close to Death. Pick the rest how you like. I run a Superior Sigil of Intelligence on my GS. I normally Shroud till <50%, then pop out of shroud for 3 massive Gravedigger attacks.
I play full Power for zerging, but Dire or Rabid’s and going Condi would significantly help you in small group play.
Alpine maps are smaller, which encourages more fights. They are also easier to “understand”, which also encourages more fights. I honestly really think that a lot of time and effort went into the Deserts, but the maps were just too large and confusing for significant gameplay.
With that being said, I feel the Deserts should continue to be in rotation just to change it up a bit.
WvW thankfully has a high number of trolls. God forbid you go to gw2wvw.net, where the REAL action is .
I think that WvW players are kinda loyal to a fault. I am still playing WvW and haven’t even finished end-game yet (proudly still level 12 Hot!). The problem is that Anet has been sitting on the most incredible gameplay to hit the scene in a long time, and it took a massive outflux of guilds (people) moving to different games for them to realize it. It should have never gotten to the point of combining servers, but I am glad they started paying attention to it instead of letting it die completely.
and even KN
Remember that one time when Kaineng was carried from T8 all the way to T2 primarily on their SEA alone? Then they fell apart when they hit a tier where servers actually had some coverage.
War Machine covered the SEA, yes, but RISE/Cryptic Omen carried the rest. There was some internal issues between CO and WM that ultimately lead to Kaineng imploding and both guilds disbanding (Ahem… Mayoken…).
The real issue here is when one server has many more people than the others. BG can do a 50-75 map que on all 4 maps during reset, whereas JQ can hardly que a map anymore. That has nothing to do with time zones, its just BG has a massive 24 hour server population. I personally don’t think its right to punish the SEA/Oceanic players just because they are in a different time zone than NA, however, I think that a slight nerf of overpopulated servers vs. underpopulated servers has been due for a while.
Also, a HUGE step in the right direction is PPK. I have seen Kaineng, SOR, and now JQ lose ranking because they are more about fighting than face-rubbing doors. Now, with points being awarded for actually fighting, the balance of servers will start to even out. (No more siege humping…. I’m looking at you YB and TC!!)
Sick fights man. I use almost the exact same build with strength runes. Nothing beats the utter devastation that a power reaper brings.
Off topic: If you decide to have an opinion about anything that’s more than 30 days old, Anet will ban you and sacrifice a kitten in your name.
On topic: Power reaper is the only way to go due to the fact that Chilling Victory can get you to 25 might stacks extremely quickly for massive spike damage.
Necros are inherently selfish: Self heal is where it is at. I use 66% crit heal food, vampiric rituals, and heal on well bombs. Almost a guaranteed 100% health rate.
NEVER! I WILL CONTINUE POWER REAPING AND USING BLIGHTERS BOON
POWER NECROS……UNITE!
So I’m sitting here with my power reaper doing 8k auto attacks and 25k+ Executioner hits continuing to wonder why anyone would go condi…
Weird, I was thinking about this this morning. I had a metric butt-load of skill points, which were converted to shards (still sitting on close to 1000 of those). Then, the 100’s of tomes of knowledge I had now only give shards. Do we really have to level 100’s of times to access the reaper? I was all excited about even using the GS, and seems that we are locked out even using it?
It appears I just paid $99 for a new borderland map…
Popping in to say Thanks Robert!
This thread has gone a long way towards helping the relationship of necros/devs, imho. Taking the feedback and explaining the reasons for/against a change and why is pretty much awesome. Not to mention the changes are actually REALLY GOOD.
Look forward to the next BWE!
1) All the Reaper threads need consolidated, lol
2) I have not read any other feedback at all concerning the Reaper: These are my own personal observations
3) This is strictly from a WvW zerg on zerg (Jade Quarry) perspective.
Cons first:
- Greatsword is not that great. The damage is about on par with the rest of the weapons, but the slowness is what kills it. It is literally like applying a permanent chill to yourself. In a WvW sense, the damage is easily avoided, the range needed for it to work means you are directly in the middle of the tank group, meaning you have a very high risk of dying with a very low chance of reward (bags are almost non-existant with a GS). Plus, every other GS profession gets a leap or gap closer whereas the necro gets a pull…. which, btw, I was never able to land due to the short range.
- Shouts are in the same league as GS. The range is too close and the utility doesn’t do enough to justify it. PLUS, it’s not focused on a single spot like Wells are, which means your shouts are aggroing ambient wildlife. The long cast time and long cool down do not justify taking them.
In the end, I ended up back with Staff+Dagger/WH and full wells.
Pros:
- I like the new heal. The 20 second cooldown means you can use it quite a bit, and it seems to always be there when you need it. However, the LF gain is unnecessary because you are gaining it from so many different places, and it doesn’t clear condis. (I ended up back with Consume Conditions)
- I LOVE the new elite. Finally, we can counter those stupid rangers!!!! The stun + chill + stabo is absolutely incredible. I put it on a permanant mouse button, i like it so much.
- Finally, the REAPER! Oh. My. God. The Reaper is epic. Epic epic epic! The only change I would make is to switch skill 5 and 2 with each other on the toolbar (synergizes with WH5, which I am used to clicking for speed already). Other than that, it rocks. It has chill/blind/gap closer/spin to win/sustain that necros have been needing. And bags galore! Holy hell, the bags!
Anyway, great job! I ended up on the Reaper for the entire weekend it was so fun. (Reverent for about 15 minutes, then right back to Reaper). Cant wait for more!
You use Lich when wells are on cooldown, and all necros need to pop it at the same time. 15 seconds is more than enough time to get off each of the skills.
I pulled a 20k the other day with Axe 2, was shocked to say the least. Would be interesting to know what everyone is hitting for post-patch.
A lot of T1 necros use lich. It has some good utilities and a very hard hitting (and very quick) auto attack. It makes you a big target though…
Here’s all I know: in a zerg v. zerg fight, it’s the necros massive burst that will make or break a fight. No class does a better job at taking down multiple targets quickly. <— This is the reason I continue to main a necro.
They achieve this through the application of 2 wells every 45 seconds. Well of Suffering only does 25% more damage than Lava Font which has 100% uptime. We’re also likely going to see this completely outclassed by the upcoming Chronomancer and Tempest specializations.
So while Necro is technically a meta class in WvW, it’s only because of the damage it does with 2 of its skills and nothing else.
Naw dude – the wells are only about 40% of the damage, the other 60% is from staff 2-5 and then jumping into DS 4/5…. then Lich or Plague on top of that. Multiplied by 5 other necros doing the same thing? Dude, there isn’t a front line in the game that can stand up to that. That bag delivery system puts Amazon to shame, lol.
