Tome Change ideas

I realy liked the idea of tomes, they just need serious rework, as you said.
I would suggest to have a look at the old gw monk abilities, something like “Infuse Life” would be really nice to have and it would nicely fit into the guardian theme (weaken yourself to support your allies).
A quick fix could be to turn them into something like the engineers kits… no cooldown on taking the book, but cooldown on the single skills within the book…
This would support active gameplay and would reward knowing and handling cooldowns.

Also there is a reason, why ppl take skills like “lich form” but dont want tomes, even if the mechanic is similar.
The heal from a tome is less reliable than the heal from blasting a waterfield…
To make it worth an elite skill that is used in WvW it needs a serious Boost. Also it needs condition remove. Maybe it should have the same amount of heal on full cleric, that a lich form does on berserker?! So that it could be used as some kind of counter to that lich form. Maybe also with some protection/regen/…
Maybe pulsing condition remove, that causes weaknes for each condition removed from an allied?

Also if you want to boost conditon usage on guardian, you could make traits, that change the tome skills or add conditions to them.
The dmg tome should boost offensive potential of the allies, while not leaving the guardian completely vulnerable. Maybe pulsing condition remove, that causes burning for each condition removed?

Last but not least try to think about your new mechanics from HoT. Something like the blocking skill on the F3 virtue you gave to “dragon hunter”.
It’s already one of the key roles of guardian to block out your oponents key skills with aegis.

All nice speculation here, but from what i see they all went straight to mesmer…
There are currently so many mesmers around… and they play so well, it’s amazing!

Maybe it’s the mesmer hype, but i could swear they play mesmer cause of the ai…

All this “Terrormancer easily beats turret engi by not standing on the point” only works against ppl who dont know what they do.
The turret engi can also leave the point and los…
Worked for me on close and far on niflhell! But i only did one match as turret engi (Sorry for that Ark).
The best thing about turrets is that you even win with lags. I probly have to join them cause i lag basicaly every evening.
Another good thing is, that the turret apocalypse is preventing me from playing – resulting in a lot more time for rl!

WL ratio is a large indicator of skill given a large sample size.. 200 games definitely shows there’s a lack of skill on the player’s part.

The matchmaking is trying to give everyone a 50% w/l ratio. Therefore its not a measurement of skill.
I havent done the math on how large the statistical variation might be, but 45-55% (+-5%) seems to be not too strange.
Only if you play with a really decent premade you will have decent w/l ratio, cause there are less other decent premades around. When i play the only decent premade seems to be oRNG. And even they can be beaten by 2-1-1-1 teams, because they aren’t playing seriously.

You don’t know how close the matches have been.
You also don’t know WHEN he lost this matches.
Maybe he was 0-100 which is NOT -100 LB-Points, but 0.
Only a dev can give answeres here.
And btw w/l ratio is really no indication for skill.

I donĀ“t understand how people with 30 more losses and same amounts of wins can be that far ahead in leaderboards. There are actually many people with worse stats and even less wins that are ahead of me.

I assume from a mathematicaly point you understand this pretty well.

But i think you are right, it feels wrong!
Leaderboard with solo players AND teams can’t work IMO.
Maybe you guys should receive extra points based on your “position” is the ESL/WTS tournaments?! To get you into the spot where you should be.

Personaly I’am not a fan of the entry fee! For someone who only playes pvp 10 gold are alot of money, not everyone farms dungeons each day. PvP rewards 30s for a won game in (un)ranked.

And i realy want tiers!!!
Of course on the first day when this is released, everyone will be in tier C or you can choose where you want to go.
My only problem is how to determine who is going up/down between the tiers, because this depends on the amount of participants. And K.O.-System could leed to ORNG loosing to ELE in the first round and have to farm tier B next time. So maybe there should be a looser bracket….

Also the reward ideas are nice.
If you want to stick with the current system, you can also make a special reward track with a box at the end, where you can choose from the armor sets, or the other rewards.
The reward track would be exclusive to this tournaments.

But nice to see, that it is basicaly the same desire

This was already in the game almost but they removed it because they didn’t want people to get free gems and a few other things.

I don’t think this is true considering the large amounts of gems the top players get from all the ESL tournaments and the WTS.
I’am not sure what the exact reason for removing paid tournaments was, but according to the blogpost it was because of the new matchmaking system.

No thanks, they already tried this when the game launched and it was pretty much a failure.

Plus, this community actually already has plenty of tournaments to compete in.

IMO it wasn’t a failure. Why you think it was a failure?

There are a lot of tournaments, but there are not ingame, you need to register somewhere and first of all you need to know about them. Only the ELS tournaments are known well.

And a lot of players are not going to participate in the ESL tournaments, because they know they would have no chance. ESL is focusing only on the best players. It would nice to have something a bit less competitive to attrackt some more ppl, that maybe one day become top players too. Or just to build a bigger competitive community.
Thats why i want the tiers.
PvP tournaments should be for everyone and not only for the top 1%!

I like this idea a lot. I also think that it should an in game broadcast so people know when tournaments are about to start.

Exactly, it should all be ingame and the times should be known, maybe an npc could even announce them if you enter the mists? There is this “Tournament NPC” which is explaining arena types atm… I think he would be happy to take the job.

The tournament system that was originally in the game was great, it basically gets all the good players playing at a specific time.

One of the reasons why I’am suggesting this! You don’t rely on the matchmaking and it gives a timeframe for all the teams to play against other teams.

You can’t run through the city and point on people and say “He did this horrible thing!!!”

I would like to see automated tournament in gw2, similar to the ones from gw1 (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Automated_tournament).

What is my vision?
I know that there are the ESL tournaments, but it would be nice to have something that addresses the needs of a bigger part of the community.
There could be different tiers within the tournament. For example the tiers A, B and C.
The “A” tier would be for the top players, winning here would give the biggest rewards.
The “B” tier is for the players that want to play competitive, but are not on the highest skill level.
And the “C” tier would be for newcomers, that would like to be in a higher tier one day, and for teams, which just want to play competitive without having the time/potential to play on higher tiers. So it would be rather for casual players. Obviously this tier would have the lowest rewards.

When should the tournament take place?
Maybe it would be better not to run them every day at start, maybe just once/twice per week, or every 5 days? So that it is not allways on the same day and players that can’t play during the week/on weekend can participate too?

Rewards
I was thinking about a low amount of gems and maybe some materials or BL-keys.
I have the feeling, that there is already enough gold in the economy.
It would of course depend on the tier and the frequency of the tournaments. If it is once per day, the reward should probably be a “Black Lion Claim Ticket Scrap” for the winning team in tier B. And for a weekly tournament maybe a “Black Lion Claim Ticket”.
It should not overreward the winning team! I would like it to be more something like a side effect, while you have fun during the tournament.

Choosing tiers:
Now how to prevent a decent team from farming tier B?
I would like something like a “mini league”, that means if you are top 3 in tier A you will have to play next time in tier B. Same for tier B.
Based on the amount on teams per tier, the “worst” x teams could be placed in a lower tier. Otherwise one day every team will play in tier A.
That would be account based.

How it works:
Place a new NPC in the Mists, or use an existing one to register. You form a five man party and press “join for an automated tournament”. The player who does this is the team leader. The player names are shown in a list. All players on that list are prevented from entering ranked or unranked queue for the duration of the tournament, unless the get knocked out before. The team leader an 3 other players who registered for the tournament have to be in the party! The remaining player can be switched if needed (Substitute). 1 min before each match, there will start a timer, at the end of the timer the team leaders have to be in a party of 5. If they are not, the team is kicked from the tournament and the other team wins without a fight.

Please let me know that you think about this and if you like it, please support the idea

EDIT:
Rewards could also just be more Glory points for each match. It should not be highly rewarding to prevent people from abusing it.
But you should receive about the same “amount” as you would receive from playing normal ranked matches + some additional rewards for the top 3,5,10… teams per tier scaling per tier of course. So that the top team from tier C is receiving less rewards than top 4 from tier B, which receive less than top 4 from tier A.
The more you progress within the tournament, the higher the reward, so you could, it could even just mean the “reward track gain” scales with it.
But no rewards for the loosers in tier C, except the usuall rewards for loosing a ranked match.
If you want, you could even think about Leaderboard points for the top teams, as an additional possibility to gain them.

I thought it’s common sence to leave the engi on close and play for mid + far, because if the engi stays you play 5 vs 4. And if the engi leaves… well you go for it.

The current matchmaking handicaps are turning me into a toxic, cynical kitten when I solo queue.

For the sake of mine and my team’s sanity please stop using brand new players as a handicap to counter the presence of high MMR players. My blood pressure is reaching all time highs.

Wow if one of the best players in the game hands down thinks this new matchmaking is garbage, maybe anet will listen? I hope.

Sure they will.
The question is if they are doing something and how many years it will take!
But maybe Santa Claus is going to help them?! Who knows…

I mean seriously, we told them 1 month after release that the game has so much potential, but…
And until now all we got is a few new maps, a few balance desasters, a new reward system that turned us all to lvl 80 in one patch, skyhammer and skyhammer farmers, turet engis and soon a new gamemode.
Okay actually we got pretty much.
Maybe not what we wanted, but we got something.

Thats such a bad idea.
People who are abusing game mechanics will just play 10 games and loose every other game after this by beeing afk.
So they drop in mmr hard and have some easy matches the next day.
Have fun abusing this!

Easy to fix, too. Freeze MMR after you played your 10 games.

Still not good, cause you basically have to play every day to have a chance to be on top. Just one day without playing and you can’t come back to the top.

And freezing the MMR means ppl can troll, and if they can they will do.
You should know that. Or you forgot about all the trebuchets “Mr. X” built to grind some AP?

The current Grindboard is the problem!

Why you need to test a system, that literaly everyone can tell you, is broken in its core?
So many people told you to go back to the pre december system and fix this. There were even good suggestions how to do this….
What do we have to do to be heared finaly?

I have the feeling that you are just testing, how long people will play Grind Wars 2.
The answer is: There will allways be people that will play it. PvE players love grinding, just look at WoW and all the asia grinders.
So i assume the system is working as intended?!

I could be wrong, but afaik the matchmaking isn’t going to place you with players around your mmr into a team. Its setting up two teams with similar average mmr.
Which is a HUGE difference!
This is causing this “jumps”, where you have one mach with decent ppl and the oher one with not so decent ppl.

Nerf Turret engi already?

If you join solo into (un-)ranked you usually can’t just outrotate the enemy engi, expecially if they have more than one.
You ever faced an enemy turret engi on khylo using the treb? – its a pain

The turrets can also contest the buffs on temple while the engi doesnt even have to be there!
Ant it takes ages to destroy all the turrets if they are placed propperly.

Plz fix this broken build!

But thats ecatly the problem my team is facing too! If we queue as full team we loose (almost) only to ESL teams and crush everything else.

Before this system came life, matches were much more balanced. Im not saying we didnt get crushed by Rom and others before, but we had a lot of even matches.

And if i queue solo, i ussually end up with ppl being compleately not on my level. Even if the match is then something like 450 to 500 its not very enyojable if i down 3 times the enemy burst ele, 2 times the mesmer and 2 times the thief just to see them get ressed up, cause my team isnt following a single target, but tries 3 times to stomp a thief without dealing any dmg to him….

PvP design issues

Currently i have much less fun in PvP as i had before the introduction of the current system.
Following design decissions/issues seem to be the reason for this:

Matchmaking
This is the most important point that destroyes my fun.
If i play PvP i like to play against ppl with a similar skill level!
But currently the system tries to give everyone a 50% win ratio, which leads to redicolous matchups. I find myself often in matches where i can beat every single player of the enemy team in a 1 vs 1 situation. And i’am not even good in 1 vs 1! That means the enemy team is not on my level. But in 50% of the cases i will still loose this matchup cause the matchmaking somehow finds ppl even worse than the oponent team has.
Currently im left alone on close with 2 ppl (Invading) almost every match. All i can do is fight 2 ppl and see my team not winning on the other points, or i leave close – just to get flamed like “f***ing ret***! Don’t leave close!!!!”.
I know a lot of top players find themself in groups with players that have no idea how to play if they join solo (which a lot of them stoped doing cause of this). IIRC Chaith posted something like this before…
People don’t know how to rotate.
And its just no fun like this.
=> I want to be matched with players of a similar skill level against players of a similar skill level.
I don’t want to have a team that is only in average as strong as the enemy team!

Unbalanced matches
There was this table showing how many points you get for the leaderbord depending on the match result and the odds. Please don’t let us play matches where the chance to win is lower than 40%. Or is this really necessary?

Daily class wins!
I just had a match with 3 warriors in my team. 2 of them clearly not experienced as warrior in PvP (Warrior is class daily atm). People tend to do their daily class wins in ranked queue. I don’t fully understand why they do this, but it’s not forbidden…
=> Please remove the class based daily! Also think about making PvE daily easier. Currently its much more efficient to do the daily in PvP, thats why a lot of players do the daily in PvP, which leads to the toxic PvE vs. PvP environment. The toxic invironment will not help new players to find their way into PvP (In which many are not even interested… but daily…)

Solo Players vs Premade
Already posted many times… It’s just not fun! When i play with a team we win 60-90% of the matches cause we face a lot of teams that are 5 solo players or 2 ppl team mixed with solo or 3 ppl team. Even if we win the matches it feels not good.
When i join solo and get stomped by a premade its no fun either.
=> As already suggested by other people here in the forum: Dont’t put a full team vs a team of 2/3 or solo players! If the premade looses they most likely are flamed as noobs. If the premade wins they still get flamed as lamers.

Leaderbord
I don’t like it and in the current state it means absolutely nothing, except beeing a good start for researchers to find ppl that spend to much time in games!
The old system was not bad, except that people that dont play stay on their leaderbord position.
Now its only about grinding (Say “Hi” to Anets No Grind Philosophy) Sorry for that Justin!
=> Give us a leaderbord that is based on skill! Maybe you can start with the old system where the MMR is kept seperate from the leaderbord position and use the decay system. BUT make the decay permanent. So if you don’t play your MMR stays the same but you drop slowly. If you are 2 weeks in hollidays you maybe drop from the leaderbord, but with some matches played you can come back. You already had decay depending on how much ppl play, keep that! It just should take more than one match to come back to the previous position if you haven’t played for a month!

locked in the mists
Yesterday i had to wait more than 8 min for matchups at eu primetime. and im locked in the mists for this time… Am i playing gw2? Well maybe 50% of my online time…
Is this fun? No, not really.

Hackers in SPVP

Our lord was killed lately by an engineer, while the doors where closed… I dont know how he did it, maybe its possible to get into the base with some jump skills. But still he managed to kill the lord with all 4 guards alive. Maybe a player who really knows what he was doing, or someone using a hack.

Such hacks could be gamebreaking on Stronghold.

I dont have fast queue pops unless you consider 5min + fast…
The matches are unbalanced… i often face premades when i join solo usually its filled with top players, like rom, texbi, hibify…

Leaving Que.... Doesnt

I can confirm this! even after the patch leaving a queue is not working… I left queue and swaped character, then randomly queue poped, while i tryed to open lootboxes in pvp… and i ended up with 4 randoms beeing destroyed by a premade…

A few guys and me noticed, that leaving the queue seems not to work allways.

For example i tried to join solo, but was asked to join a freind, so i stoped queue and joind him. we entered queue, all in team joined. Then match poped for me, but i was without my friends…

And this is not the first time this happend.

Right on release we tried to join with 4 ppl, a fifth came online we picked him up, entered queue again. Matchup and the fifths is not with us…

All this happened in ranked queue!

I would like to suggest the reintroduction of the Qualifying Points! But not with their original meaning… I rather think about an ingame representation of your leaderbord score.
I also would like to see the change in the score beeing displayed after each match.

Hi,

a friend and me are looking for a team/3 other players.
We are both experienced players – peak at around top 200 teamQ.
Our old team became inactive and all atempts to revive it failed.

My friend mains engineer.
I usually play warrior or ele.

What are we looking for?
- you need to be experienced (top 500) >2500 matches played
- be friendly (dont flame, dont rage – we are doing that )
- dont expect us to be perfect
- be adult or behave like an adult
(- be willing to try new stuff)

Sidenote: we are both german, so english is not our native language. But we are both able to speak it

The poison is just there if you dont kill all bosses!
The poison is just around the keeps, if you move away from them you are fine
Im happy with this content, had a lot of fun comanding the map Its just maybe a little bit… stressful to explain the bosses while having to protect the keep and telling ppl to protect the dolyaks or to use airstrike/oil/cannons/ac.

I like the idea, but we need an ingame implementation to see how good it works/what the problems are.
I would like a fast implementation of this, which is by far not perfect, just to give us the chance to test it. (Like agile software developement) Then players can provide feedback and share thougths with developers.
This could lead to a compleate new way of the ingame content developement! Players testing themself and providing feedback in the earlyest stage of developement, instead of developers making something hidden.
There was a video once about creating a map, it was a really fast process, just the testing consumes incredible amount of time. Maybe safe this time, so that the community can see progress. And include the players in the process of developement.

In any case there should be a connection between the home points, so that teams are forced to split rather than to zerg on mid.

Maybe the homepoint could provide something like a flag, which is needed to cap the mid, or caps the mid (like the flagstand in the good old gw1 gvg <3).

I predict every team will have a mesmer with portal
1 home 3 mid/another home, mesmer opens portal to addapt to any sittuation.

A few comments on all of this…

1. Ranks should have NOTHING to do with mmr.
2. mmr is gained too quickly. That is the issue with the matchmaking
3. Decay needs to be permanent and not just a leaderboard item. Seeing someone go from 20% to 93% in one game is ridiculous.

I agree with 1 and 2, but not with 3.
If the decay would be permanent you would really hate to have hollidays…

The mmr gain/loos should be based on the amount of matches you have played already. Meaning: Big jumps if you have done just a few matches and very small jumps if you have a lot of matches.
I still dont understand why i drop hundred of ranks, if i loose to low ranked opponents because of dc, 4/5, bad teamcomposition or just bad teammates.
Thats not very #esports

I noticed the same… Feeled like a fool when i told ppl, that the average lvl of the weapons has to be 75+ in order to get lvl 80 weapons back…

Communication in game

This was a bug introduced with the ‘Force-Respawn’ feature. It will be fixed in the feature patch. My bad.

Nice to hear! It was allways one of the bigger issues i think.

I would also like a feature to distiguish certain payers.

For example i had a match against 3 Mesmers. And it was impossible to tell if there is one Mesmer attacking our close point, or two or maybe all 3.
Another example: If the opponent has two warriors, lets say one is condition and one hambow. I would like to know if the guy who is hunting my guard is the condition war or the hambow war.

Maybe add small numbers inside the symbols, based on the position on the match-overview (press b-button)

Also dont hide players if they are closed to map objects (Trebuchet on kylo or channel-buffs on temple of silent storm).

I’m also against VoIP!
I sometimes have players drawing swastikas or sexual themes on the minimap. I really dont want this ppl to have the possibility to talk to me.

I personaly thing the communication is technically in a good spot. The biggest issue are people that dont want to listen. If i play thief and have to hold close vs 3 ppl while my team is fighting to bunkers on mid, then this is nothing that can be fixed with better communication. I can already ping on the map and the ppl can already see red symbols showing how many enemys are fighting where.

You can do improvements to the communication, but i dont think that the current state is bad or needs improvement.

We need new leaderboards

It’s more dependent on WHO you’re beating, than how often you’re winning.

Thats not how it works!
If you stop playing your mmr stays the same, but you drop in rank. If you start playing again your rank is again based on your mmr and so you rise in ladder. So even if you loose your rank is updated.

Opening Chests after March 18th

I got also a few questions:

You mentioned that the rank reward vendors will stay until the feature build. Does this mean, that i can still buy the gold reward chests from the vendors?
Let’s say i im close to rank 80 and become rank 80 after the 18th. Can i now, when im 80 after the 18th, buy the gold chests for the rank 80 rewards? If not, is there any other way to get the rank 80 skins AFTER the 18th but BEFORE the fearture patch?

You also mentioned, that there are more rewards for high rank players.
Does high rank refers to the pvp rank or to the rank on the leaderboards?
=> Are skyhammerfarmer once more more rewarded?

Check t6 totems and you will see the same. This is a large scale price speculation/manipulation!

The guy stacked up the ectos/totem/whatever else, for months.

Maybe you remember the thread about the totems or my thread about the ectos.
Both threads where pointing out, that there is a HUGE increase in suppy… more then ever before. And everyone was just saying: Jeah it’s because of xy. And i THINK (i dont know) that this is a large scale price manipulation.
To know this, we need to find the guy, or we need an official statement.
